The risk of explosion is ever-present when handling powders and combustible bulk solids. Every day, around the world, process technicians and engineers estimate and minimise this risk. Nevertheless, devastating dust explosions are all too frequent. So-called "hot-spots" sudden spontaneous combustion, smouldering and glowing fires or explosion risks lurk at every stage of the storage, processing and transportation of combustible powders. In today's cement industry, more and more so-called high volatile coal and its blends are popular for kiln and precalciner firing. They are extremely flammable. As an effective preventive explosion protection Yara has developed different technological systems based on inert gases C02 und N2. These emergency inerting systems have been supporting the worldwide cement industry for more than 35 years. Each system is designed and manufactured according to individual customer needs, specifications and risk analysis. Local directives and conditions are strictly observed, they do play an important role for the engineering and conception of the systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
