Abstract

As part of the MUSA - Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action project, the article presents a multidisciplinary research aimed at understanding how to make the public space of the Bicocca District of Milan a place of participation and a context of continuous learning on environmental, economic and social sustainability issues. The paper returns a map of the research process to explain the methodological steps that have distinguished it so that they can be transferred and replicated in research paths that are similar in terms of content, objective, conditions and starting resources. Besides the methodological attentions, the article also shares the first results emerging from the literature review on the relationship between territory, participation, documentation and sustainability. Abstract

Two years after the recognition of the Italian Sign Language (LIS) in our country (May 19th, 2021), the Department of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Bergamo, in the context of the University Call for Public Engagement initiatives 2023, dedicated an exhibition-conference "Signs of Art: sign languages between expression and participation" to the creative, expressive, and communicative potential of LIS. This paper, which closes the first year of activity of the column "Inclusion: school and surroundings", intends to present this initiative which arose as the result of a research-training project conducted in collaboration with the “Giacomo and Pio Manzù” State Art School of Bergamo, the Scuola Audiofonetica of Brescia and the Ente Nazionale Deaf of Milan and aimed at promoting actions to support the school inclusion processes of deaf pupils and the qualification of the teaching staff on the sign languages. 3. A Nature-Inspired Algorithm to Enable the E-Mobility Participation in the Ancillary Service Market.

Abstract

In the present paper, a tool is proposed to optimally schedule the charging requests of a fleet of carsharing Electric Vehicles (EVs) in an urban area, to enable their participation in the Ancillary Service Market. The centralized scheduler minimizes the imbalance of an EV fleet with respect to the power commitment declared in the Day-Ahead Market, providing also tertiary reserve and power balance control to the grid. The regulation is carried out by optimizing the initial charging time of each vehicle, according to a deadline set by the carsharing operator. To this purpose, a nature-inspired optimization is adopted, implementing innovative hybridizations of the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm. The e-mobility usage is simulated through a topology-aware stochastic model based on carsharing usage in Milan (Italy) and the Ancillary Services requests are modeled by real data from the Italian electricity market. The numerical simulations performed confirmed the effectiveness of the approach in identifying a suitable schedule for the charging requests of a large EV fleet (up to 3200 units), with acceptable computational effort. The benefits on the economic sustainability of the E-carsharing fleet given by the participation in the electricity market are also confirmed by an extensive sensitivity analysis.
