All EU countries are confronted with the effects of population ageing. The expected decline in the population should compensated. Otherwise, it may have been a decline of economic growth. That situation therefore requires additional workers, including immigrants. Foreign students are clearly the easiest potential immigrants to integrate. When foreign students stay on after graduation, they have a long-term influence on the economy. The aim of the article is to highlight the current problems associated with the use of the potential of foreign students in the EU. The paper analyses these effects of foreign students on the economies of EU countries: demographic situation in the Member States, presence in the labour market following completion of studies, and revenues generated by educational institutions.
