Artificial intelligence (AI) and its data-driven counterpart, machine learning (ML), are rapidly evolving disciplines with increasing applications in modeling, simulation, control, and optimization within the drying industry. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of progress made in ML from shallow to deep learning and its implications for food drying. Theoretical foundations, advantages, and limitations of various ML approaches employed in this domain are explored. Additionally, advancements in ML models, particularly those enhanced by optimization algorithms, are reviewed. The review underscores the role of intelligent configuration of ML models, which affects their accuracy and ability to solve problems of high energy consumption, nutrient degradation, and uneven drying. Drawing upon research achievements, integrating of AI models with real-time measuring methods is discussed, enabling dynamic determination of optimal drying conditions and parameter adjustments. This integration facilitates automated decision-making, reducing human errors and enhancing operational efficiency in food drying. Moreover, AI models demonstrate proficiency in predicting drying times and analyzing energy usage patterns, thereby enabling optimization to minimize resource consumption while preserving product quality. Despite the complex punching shear behavior of reinforced concrete slabs have been comprehensively addressed in the literature, it is further essential to develop a universal design model comprising high accuracy and the simplicity for design practicability, adaptable to diverse conditions encountered in practice. Artificial intelligence applications, artificial neural networks (ANN), and more recently, various machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques veer off in a new direction in structural engineering context with improved accuracy and efficiency. The paper begins with the assessment of the capabilities of various artificial intelligence applications in predicting the punching shear strength of slab-column connections without shear reinforcement through the extensive database using 650 punching shear experiments from the literature. Critical parameters influencing the punching shear strength as well as the precision of the current code provisions in predicting this feature were then thoroughly examined in the paper. The results shown in this paper validated the competency of artificial intelligence applications in predicting the punching shear strength of such connections with increased accuracy and improved simplicity in practical terms. AbstractPrediction of heart diseases on time is significant in order to preserve life. Many conventional methods have taken efforts on earlier prediction but faced with challenges of higher prediction cost, extended time for computation and complexities with larger volume of data which reduced prediction accuracy. In order to overcome such pitfalls, AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology has been evolved in diagnosing heart diseases through deployment of several ML (Machine Learning) and DL (Deep Learning) algorithms. It improves detection by influencing with its capacity of learning from the massive data containing age, obesity, hypertension and other risk factors of patients and extract it accordingly to differentiate on the circumstances. Moreover, storage of larger data with AI greatly assists in analysing the occurrence of the disease from past historical data. Hence, this paper intends to provide a review on different AI based algorithms used in the heart disease prognostication and delivers its benefits through researching on various existing works. It performs comparative analysis and critical assessment as encompassing accuracies and maximum utilization of algorithms focussed by traditional studies in this area. Anemia is a severe health condition commonly prevalent among women of reproductive age and children below five years. Screening patients before the condition becomes critical and can save many lives. World Health Organization (WHO) has set the "Global nutrition target 2025-anemia," aiming to reduce 50% of anemia cases among women of reproductive age. This target can be achieved through a time-efficient, cost-effective, and easy-to-use tool. Traditional testing methods require specific chemicals, machines, and equipment that are not available everywhere. It also requires the presence of nurses, laboratory workers, and doctors. These methods are costly, time-consuming, and produce biohazard waste, thus polluting the environment. We developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based bot that can be used for screening people for anemia. The bot service is based on two models: a segmentation model to segment the Region of Interest (ROI) and a classification model to classify anemic cases from normal ones. To train the model, we have collected data from 160 anemic and 140 non-anemic persons. In this paper, we have explained the architecture of the models, all the training parameters, and their deployment on cloud services using the REAN chatbot service. We manage to reach an Intersection Over Union (IOU) score of 0.922 for the segmentation model; validation recall of 0.95 and validation accuracy of 0.9699 for the classification model. This system is easy to use and does not depend on the availability of comprehensive laboratory infrastructure or trained personnel and thus can enable screening of anemia in low-resource settings. PV(photovoltaic) systems have been deployed more in the recent years to support green energy generation. In the recent era, grid tied PV has been sparked by the emergence of the electricity market and offers an alternative solution to traditional fossil fuel-based electricity generation. A few of the potential impacts of solar PV on grid are false tripping of feeders, unwanted tripping, unnecessary islanding, and blind protection. In this research paper, different artificial intelligence techniques are tested in order to overcome the protection challenges. The PSCAD/EMTDC software package is used to analyze a section of the power system, and an algorithm has been constructed using Python v3.8 and MATLAB 2018. On an IEEE-9 BUS power system connected to a PV source, the Artificial Neural Network, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, and Convolution Neural Network (CNN) algorithms are implemented to classify the faults. The suggested methods are proven effective for both in-zone and out-of-zone problems on power lines interconnected with solar park. The proposed techniques have been validated using total 16,320 internal and external fault cases with a wide range of system parameters alteration. In the proposed system, the effectiveness of several machine learning and deep learning techniques is compared. The obtained results demonstrate that CNN provides greater accuracy in the presence of a PV source, but at the same time, it is appropriate for a large number of data sets. Artificial intelligence (AI) has undergone major advances over the past decades, propelled by key innovations in machine learning and the availability of big data and computing power. This paper surveys the historical progress of AI from its origins in logic-based systems like the Logic Theorist to recent deep learning breakthroughs like Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), Generative Pretrained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) and Large Language Model Meta AI (LLaMA). The early rule-based systems using handcrafted expertise gave way to statistical learning techniques and neural networks trained on large datasets. Milestones like AlexNet and AlphaGo established deep learning as a dominant AI approach. Transfer learning enabled models pre-trained on diverse corpora to excel at specialised downstream tasks. The scope of AI expanded from niche applications like playing chess to multifaceted capabilities in computer vision, natural language processing and dialogue agents. However, current AI still needs to catch up to human intelligence in aspects like reasoning, creativity, and empathy. Addressing limitations around real-world knowledge, biases, and transparency remains vital for further progress and aligning AI with human values. The past decade has witnessed the rapid development of geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) primarily due to the ground-breaking achievements in deep learning and machine learning. A growing number of scholars from cartography have demonstrated successfully that GeoAI can accelerate previously complex cartographic design tasks and even enable cartographic creativity in new ways. Despite the promise of GeoAI, researchers and practitioners have growing concerns about the ethical issues of GeoAI for cartography. In this paper, we conducted a systematic content analysis and narrative synthesis of research studies integrating GeoAI and cartography to summarize current research and development trends regarding the usage of GeoAI for cartographic design. Based on this review and synthesis, we first identify dimensions of GeoAI methods for cartography such as data sources, data formats, map evaluations, and six contemporary GeoAI models, each of which serves a variety of cartographic tasks. These models include decision trees, knowledge graph and semantic web technologies, deep convolutional neural networks, generative adversarial networks, graph neural networks, and reinforcement learning. Further, we summarize seven cartographic design applications where GeoAI have been effectively employed: generalization, symbolization, typography, map reading, map interpretation, map analysis, and map production. We also raise five potential ethical challenges that need to be addressed in the integration of GeoAI for cartography: commodification, responsibility, privacy, bias, and (together) transparency, explainability, and provenance. We conclude by identifying four potential research directions for future cartographic research with GeoAI: GeoAI-enabled active cartographic symbolism, human-in-the-loop GeoAI for cartography, GeoAI-based mapping-as-a-service, and generative GeoAI for cartography. Municipal solid waste (MSW) management has become a highly challenging issue for many countries at different levels of development since the growth of population and urbanisation has resulted in a large increase in MSW generation. It is difficult to forecast the solid waste generated and its characteristics due to the non-linear nature of the MSW system, hence the importance of introducing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and machine learning (ML) methods. This paper discusses a systematic literature review (SLR) on the application of AI techniques in MSW management, including waste generation prediction, waste collection and transportation and waste treatment and final disposal. The study reviewed and analysed the research studies published between 2000 and 2021, and investigated the current challenges faced by researchers in implementing AI approaches in the MSW system. It was concluded that artificial neural networks are the most used approach in various MSW-related problems. However, the lack and reliability of data are limiting the advancement of AI techniques in this field. Additionally, most studies claimed that their results are accurate and can be implemented in real-life scenarios, with an absence of a clear baseline to assess the performance of the adopted approaches. By accurate predicting of pipe bursts, it is possible to schedule pipe maintenance, rehabilitation and improve level of services in Water Distribution Networks (WDNs). In recent years, artificial intelligence techniques have been used vastly in pipe burst prediction. These techniques need big input dataset for deep learning but big dataset might not be available in old WDNs. This paper aimed to compare the performance of multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) and regressive convolution neural network with least square support vector regression (RCNN-LSSVR) for predicting of Pipe Burst Rate (PBR) with limited dataset. Pipes age, diameter, depth of installation, length, average and maximum hydraulic pressure are considered as effective parameters of PBR. Data collected from real-case study in Iran include 158 cases for polyethylene and 124 cases for asbestos cement pipes during 2012–2019. Cereals provide humans with essential nutrients, and its quality assessment has attracted widespread attention. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy (IRS) and hyperspectral imaging (HSI), as powerful nondestructive testing technologies, are widely used in the quality monitoring of food and agricultural products. Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in data mining, especially in recent years, a new generation of AI represented by deep learning (DL) has made breakthroughs in analyzing spectral data of food and agricultural products. The combination of IRS/HSI and AI further promotes the development of quality evaluation of cereals. This paper comprehensively reviews the advances of IRS and HSI combined with AI in the detection of cereals quality. The aim is to present a complete review topic as it touches the background knowledge, instrumentation, spectral data processing (including preprocessing, feature extraction and modeling), spectral interpretation, etc. To suit this goal, principles of IRS and HSI, as well as basic concepts related to AI are first introduced, followed by a critical evaluation of representative reports integrating IRS and HSI with AI. This paper aimed to evaluate the research trends in the discipline of library and information science (LIS) originating from the group of nations known as the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The Web of Science core collection database (WoSCC) has been used to extract the published data during the period 1989–2020. Furthermore, VoSviewer and Bibliometrix R package software have been employed for bibliometric analysis of data and data visualization. Results from data analysis indicate that China has the highest number of publications. There is a positive upward trend in scientific publications and citation patterns. Scientometrics is the most influential journal with the highest number of publications. Wuhan University is the most productive institution. Fourie I (n = 233) attains the first rank as the most prolific author based on the highest number of research publications. The overall collaboration rate of LIS publications among BRICS countries is moderate. Recent developments in cancer treatment with irreversible electroporation (IRE) have led to a renewed interest in developing a treatment planning system based on Deep-Learning methods. This paper will give an account of U-Net, as a Deep-Learning architecture usage for predicting thermal damage area during IRE. In this study, an irregular shape of the liver tumor with MIMICS and 3-Matic software was created from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images. To create electric field distribution and thermal damage maps in IRE, COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3 finite element analysis was performed. It was decided to use the pair needle, single bipolar, and multi-tine electrodes with different geometrical parameters as electrodes. The U-Net was designed as a Deep-Learning network to train and predict the thermal damage area from electric field distribution in the IRE. The average DICE coefficient and accuracy of trained U-Net for predicting thermal damage area on test data sets were 0.96 and 0.98, respectively, for the dataset consisting of all electrode type electric field intensity images. This is the first time that U-Net has been used to predict thermal damage area. The results of this research support the idea that the U-Net can be used for predicting thermal damage areas during IRE as a treatment planning system. Recently, machine learning (ML) has been applying in almost all scientific fields to model and simulate the behaviour of complex systems. At the same time, the number of the proposed watermarking techniques have been increasing every year. Although most of the researchers in the watermarking and data hiding field put all their effort to compete each other to develop more efficient algorithm, the selection of the most efficient one is almost impossible for industries or software developers. In other words, comparison among all the watermarking techniques in order to select one watermarking technique would be cumbersome task. Moreover, the computer security is becoming more advanced which a single watermark technique cannot fulfil all the required criteria and there is a chance that an anti-watermarking is developed to remove the embedded watermark from the host data. This gap of knowledge to use the watermarking technology for a highly secure application is a real nightmare for the information security engineers and software designers. In this paper, two new approaches are proposed to train deep learning and shallow learning models based on the state-of-the-arts watermarking techniques. For these proposed approaches, several ML algorithms are applied to model various watermarked data, which are watermarked by different watermarking techniques in various spectrums and domains. An experimental setup is constructed based on several speeches, audios, images and videos beside the Amazon Sagemaker as ML modelling to implement the proposed approach. The experimental results show that apart from an overall effectiveness of the model, it would resolve some ambiguities by applying the proposed ML approach as a general watermarking workflow. As artificial intelligence was more and more widely used in civil engineering, traditional detection technologies were gradually being intelligent. In order to more accurately identify the apparent diseases of concrete, in the first, this paper collected pictures of four kinds of apparent diseases of concrete, including general diseases, weathering, rebar exposed, and cracks, and used image processing technology to expand the image set; secondly, the deep residual network model were established to get the classifiers of the four apparent diseases of concrete; finally, the transfer learning was used to optimize the deep residual network model to get the best classification result. The results showed that the concrete apparent disease classifier based on deep learning established in this paper can intelligently classify the images of the single disease of concrete. After the optimization of the transfer learning, the accuracy rate reached 91.3%, and the recognition accuracy of rebar exposed diseases had reached 97.6%, which could meet the needs of intelligent detection of concrete diseases in actual projects. Improving the interpretability of geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) models has become critically important to open the 'black box' of complex AI models, such as deep learning. This paper compares popular saliency map generation techniques and their strengths and weaknesses in interpreting GeoAI and deep learning models' reasoning behaviors, particularly when applied to geospatial analysis and image processing tasks. We surveyed two broad classes of model explanation methods: perturbation-based and gradient-based methods. The former identifies important image areas, which help machines make predictions by modifying a localized area of the input image. The latter evaluates the contribution of every single pixel of the input image to the model's prediction results through gradient backpropagation. In this study, three algorithms—the occlusion method, the integrated gradients method, and the class activation map method—are examined for a natural feature detection task using deep learning. The algorithms' strengths and weaknesses are discussed, and the consistency between model-learned and human-understandable concepts for object recognition is also compared. Aquaculture is an important industry in New Zealand (NZ). Mussel farmers often manually check the state of the buoys that are required to support the crop, which is labour-intensive. Artificial intelligence (AI) can provide automatic and intelligent solutions to many problems but has seldom been applied to mussel farming. In this paper, a new AI-based approach is developed to automatically detect buoys from mussel farm images taken from a farm in the South Island of NZ. The overall approach consists of four steps, i.e. data collection and preprocessing, image segmentation, keypoint detection and feature extraction, and classification. A convolutional neural network (CNN) method is applied to perform image segmentation. A new genetic programming (GP) method with a new representation, a new function set and a new terminal set is developed to automatically evolve descriptors for extracting features from keypoints. The new approach is applied to seven subsets and one full dataset containing images of buoys over different backgrounds and compared to three baseline methods. The new approach achieves better performance than the compared methods. In this study, we searched for the latest literature on the use of deep learning applications to combat COVID-19 and these were identified from several search engines including IEEE Xplore, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus. This involved a comprehensive analysis of the studies to identify the challenges associated with the use of deep learning models with a view to highlight the possible future trends in the development of deep learning systems that are efficient and more reliable for the diagnosis of COVID-19 patients. This paper provides information related to the deep learning techniques used to detect COVID-19. This paper discusses the Convolutional Neural Networks’ (CNNs) structure, how to train CNNs, and highlights the different pre-trained models of CNNs that can be used for the detection of COVID-19. This paper explores the latest developments in the diagnosis of COVID-19 using deep learning applications that rely on the use of X-ray images taken from medical imaging samples. A review of the different models developed to facilitate effective diagnosis of COVID-19 provides information regarding the experimental data, the data splitting techniques used, as well as the proposed architecture for detecting COVID-19 and the different evaluation metrics for each model. Different types of research have been done on video data using Artificial Intelligence (AI) deep learning techniques. Most of them are behavior analysis, scene understanding, scene labeling, human activity recognition (HAR), object localization, and event recognition. Among all these, HAR is one of the challenging tasks and thrust areas of video data processing research. HAR is applicable in different areas, such as video surveillance systems, human-computer interaction, human behavior characterization, and robotics. This paper aims to present a comparative review of vision-based human activity recognition with the main focus on deep learning techniques on various benchmark video datasets comprehensively. We propose a new taxonomy for categorizing the literature as CNN and RNN-based approaches. We further divide these approaches into four sub-categories and present various methodologies with their experimental datasets and efficiency. A short comparison is also made with the handcrafted feature-based approach and its fusion with deep learning to show the evolution of HAR methods. Predictive analytics is being increasingly used to predict various aspects of applications and users. It offers vast opportunities in the growth of the modern era's business transformation by enabling automated decision-making processes. Being able to determine the intention of users in an automated way is one of the important factors in enabling automated decision-making for applications and businesses using such applications. In this paper, we utilize and build upon the existing works, and propose a comprehensive intention assessment model that detects different possible intents of users by analyzing their text-based reviews on online forums, retail market websites, or on social media. If the information about a product or service experience is present somewhere in a review or post, our technique can accurately segregate different possible purchase intention labels (i.e., positive, negative, and unknown). Our proposed comprehensive model for intention assessment includes extensive data pre-processing, extended feature selection model, utilization of artificial intelligence (machine learning and deep learning) techniques, and customized cost and loss functions. We built a comprehensive testbed and carried out evaluations and comparisons. Our solution demonstrates high accuracy, precision, and F1 score. Research on machine deep learning with fuzzy neural network (FNN) is one hot topic in the Artificial Intelligent (AI) domain. Two methods, one experimental and one based on artificial intelligence/deep learning (AI/DL) are explored in this paper for possible identification of adulteration, coagulation and spoilage of dairy milk. The unique patterns formed by dairy-milk colloids under three conditions – dilution, coagulation and staling and observed using confocal laser scanning microscopy are reported here. The patterns act as a fingerprint to the various stages of coagulation/dilution/spoilage of milk colloids. X-ray micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) is an advanced technique able to provide a comprehensive examination of the volumetric characteristics of asphalt mixtures. A key step for the air void (AV) quantification using micro-CT images is the segmentation, which is a stage of the digital image processing. The most common segmentation technique, the manual threshold (TH) selection, depends significantly on the operator skills, image homogeneity, and material complexity. These factors that can limit the reproducibility of the TH procedure. Machine learning and deep learning recently appeared as promising alternatives to solve this challenge. In this paper, images of an asphalt concrete (AC) specimen were acquired in a modern high-resolution micro-CT scanner to determine its AV content using four different segmentation tools, i.e. TH, watershed, machine learning, and deep learning. All methods presented similar results for the total AV content. The advantages and limitations of using each technique were discussed in terms of computational effort, user-friendliness, and accuracy of the results. EEG signals help to understand the physiological and functional details and activities of the brain. Recent advancements in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have provided an opportunity to create autonomous devices, robots, and machines characterised particularly with the ability to make decisions and perform tasks without human mediation. One of these devices, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or drones are widely used to perform tasks like surveillance, search and rescue, object detection and target tracking, and many more. Efficient real-time object detection in aerial videos is an urgent need, especially with the increasing use of UAV in various fields. The sensitivity in performing said tasks demands that drones must be efficient and reliable. This paper presents our research progress in the development of applications for the identification and detection of person using the convolutional neural networks (CNN) YOLO-v2 based on the camera of drone. The position and state of the person are determined with deep-learning-based computer vision. The person detection results show that YOLO-v2 detects and classifies object with a high level of accuracy. A common need for artificial intelligence models in the broader geoscience is to encode various types of spatial data, such as points, polylines, polygons, graphs, or rasters, in a hidden embedding space so that they can be readily incorporated into deep learning models. One fundamental step is to encode a single point location into an embedding space, such that this embedding is learning-friendly for downstream machine learning models. We call this process location encoding. However, there lacks a systematic review on location encoding, its potential applications, and key challenges that need to be addressed. This paper aims to fill this gap. We first provide a formal definition of location encoding, and discuss the necessity of it for GeoAI research. Next, we provide a comprehensive survey about the current landscape of location encoding research. We classify location encoding models into different categories based on their inputs and encoding methods, and compare them based on whether they are parametric, multi-scale, distance preserving, and direction aware. We demonstrate that existing location encoders can be unified under one formulation framework. We also discuss the application of location encoding. The economic, social, cultural growth of most developing countries depends upon the agriculture sector. However, plant disease may lead to inferior crop yield economic growth. Various computer vision and artificial intelligence-based schemes have been presented in past for automatic plant leaf disease detection but their performance is inadequate due to underprivileged feature representation, lower-order correlation of raw features, data imbalance problem, less generalization. This paper presents automatic plant leaf disease detection using Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) to increase the feature representation and correlation and Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) for data augmentation to cope up with data imbalance problem. Extensive experimentations are performed on ten classes of tomato plant disease from Plant Village leaf disease database. Effectiveness of proposed scheme is evaluated based on accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score which has shown momentous improvement over customary methods for plant leaf disease database (Accuracy- 99.74%, precision- 0.99, recall-0.99, F1 score -0.99). Electricity generation from burning fossil fuel is one of the major contributors to global warming. Renewable energy sources are a viable alternative to produce electrical energy and to reduce the emission from power industry. They have unlocked opportunities for consumers to produce electricity locally and use it on-site that reduces dependency on centralized generation. Despite the widespread availability, one of the major challenges is to understand their characteristics in a more informative way. Wind energy is highly dependent on the intermittent wind speed profile. This paper proposes the prediction of wind speed that simplifies wind farm planning and feasibility study. Twelve artificial intelligence algorithms were used for wind speed prediction from collected meteorological parameters. The model performances were compared to determine the wind speed prediction accuracy and model comparison for different sizes of data set. In this paper, we discuss the inextricable link between automating training environment adaptation and deep understanding of the context surrounding specific decisions and actions executed in the performance environment. To enable deep contextual understanding, psychological measurement strategies are needed to more accurately and rapidly model the psychologically meaningful details of the trainee's interactions with events, objects, and people in the training environment. As these interactions often entail complex, nonlinear cue-action relationships, the underlying models must effectively capture the nuance, complexity, and largely intuitive nature of human decision-making. Deep Learning Technique (DLT) is the sub-branch of Machine Learning (ML) which assists to learn the data in multiple levels of representation and abstraction and shows impressive performance on many Artificial Intelligence (AI) tasks. This paper presents a new method to analyse the healthcare data using DLT algorithms and associated mathematical formulations. In this study, we have first developed a DLT to programme two types of deep learning neural networks, namely: (a) a two-hidden layer network, and (b) a three-hidden layer network. The data was analysed for predictability in both of these networks. Additionally, a comparison was also made with simple and multiple Linear Regression (LR). The demonstration of successful application of this method is carried out using the dataset that was constructed based on 2014 Medicare Provider Utilization and Payment Data. The results indicate a stronger case to use DLTs compared to traditional techniques like LR. Furthermore, it was identified that adding more hidden layers to neural network constructed for performing deep learning analysis did not have much impact on predictability for the dataset considered in this study. Therefore, the experimentation described in this article sets up a case for using DLTs over the traditional predictive analytics. The investigators assume that the algorithms described for deep learning is repeatable and can be applied for other types of predictive analysis on healthcare data. The Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) requires state highway agencies to improve their roadway network safety through a ‘strategic’ and ‘data-driven’ approach. As part of HSIP, the Federal Highway Administration mandates that states develop a Pavement Friction Management System to reduce the rate of fatal and injury-causing crashes and prioritise their safety improvement projects based on the crash risk. This paper aims to predict the rate of wet and dry vehicle crashes based on surface friction, traffic level, and speed limit using an artificial neural network (ANN). Three learning algorithms, Levenberg-Marquardt, conjugate gradient, and resilient back-propagation, were examined to train the network. Levenberg-Marquardt produced the best precision and was used to develop the model. The results of the study suggest that the ANN model can reliably predict the rate of crashes. Data from two thermo-mechanical pulp mills are collected to simulate the refining process using deep learning. A multilayer perceptron neural network is utilized for pattern recognition of the refining variables. Results show the impressive capability of artificial intelligence methods in refining energy simulation so that the correlation coefficient of 98% is accessible. A comprehensive parametric study has been made to investigate the effect of refining disturbance variables, plate gap and dilution water on refining energy simulation. The generated model reveals the non-linear hidden pattern between refining variables, which can be used for optimal refining control strategy. Considering the disturbance variables' effect in refining energy simulation, model accuracy could increase by 15%. Removing the plate gape from predictive variables reduces the simulation determination coefficient by up to 25% in both mills, while the mentioned value for removing dilution water is 9–17% in mill 1 and about 35% in mill 2.
