400 lectures and company presentations as well as 150 exhibitors formed the technical framework for the 101st German Librarians’ Day in Hamburg in May 2012. Whether e-books, Discovery Services, Patron Driven Acquisition, or the latest offers of service partner, the rich palette of topics offered something for each of the more than 4,500 information professionals. This paper provides a summary of the professional part and let some of the participants report on what personal benefits they draw from “Librarians’ Day”. Information is presented about several papers presented at the Digital Preservation Summit 2011, held on October 19-20, 2011, in Hamburg, Germany. Topics include predictions regarding the digitization of scientific publications by the year 2020, methods of employing digitization to secure long-term archiving, and the exchange of professional experiences about digital archiving.

The article reports on the conference "Die gesammelte Welt: Wissensformen und Wissenswandel in Zedlers 'Universal-Lexicon,'" held on November 18-19, 2010, in Wolfenbüttel, Germany. Presentations revolved around the editorial history, historical context, and contents of the Enlightenment-era encyclopedia, edited by Johann Heinrich Zedler in the 18th century, including papers on the representation of Buddhism, the human body, and slavery. A digital edition of the encyclopedia was also discussed.

The article reports on a May 2007 Swedish National Library conference, or Think Tank as it was called, on the role of the book as artifact and the value of the printed versus digital material. A report on the Google digitalization project at the University of Michigan was presented. Other talks addressed paper book preservation and warehousing, the growth of illiteracy, and the anarchy of the Internet.

The article discusses the highlights of the Pakistan Library Science Conference held in Baragali from June 28, 2009 to July 2, 2009. The event was organized by Hamid Rehman, Muhammad Ismail and Sajjad Ahmad. Key note speaker Saeed-ullah Jan delivered a presentation about the impact of digital technology on public library services. Another paper presented at the conference dealt with the flaws and loopholes in the legal system that covers libraries and copyright.

Information about several papers discussed at the 2008 Annual Conference hosted by the Government Documents Round Table (GODORT) is presented. Topics include government information competencies for librarians, U.S. Government Printing Office's study of regional libraries, and projects regarding state government information in digital format. The symposium featured several speakers including Daniel Cornwall, Ric Davis and Cynthia Etkin.
