The article is a continuing part of papers on the life of U.S. politician Richard M. Nixon. It was August 1945 and World War II was ending and for the first time in six years Republicans dared turn their attention from the instant peril of Fascism toward the object of their first hatred the New Deal. At that moment, still in the uniform of a lieutenant commander, Nixon was handling contract termination work for the Navy in Baltimore. After joining politics Nixon had the good fortune to learn in his first campaign that there was a trick to winning elections.
