This paper seeks to introduce a meaning-making process called 'sensuous abstraction' as one approach to aesthetic experience in line with Dewey's philosophy. Dewey highlights aesthetic experience as the best form of experience that integrates emotional and intellectual qualities to foster deep learning and insights. Building on contemporary research on sensation, affect, and human brain, this paper identifies two distinct modes of human understanding: the linguistic/conceptual system and the sensuous-imaginative system. The former, often associated with abstraction and intellectual thinking, is heavily emphasized in traditional schooling, but the latter, integral to human cognition, is sadly neglected and overlooked. While situational meaning offers a way to bridge the two systems, it often falls short of leading to aesthetic experience. In response, sensuous abstraction can promote a process of meaning making that becomes more general than sensation but never as general as linguistic categories while maintaining its sensory wholeness as aesthetic experience demands. Using a classical artwork as an example, this paper concludes sensuous abstraction can be adopted as one approach for educators to create learning experiences by integrating sensory experience and generalizations and abstractions that lead to aesthetic experience. Point cloud registration is the process of aligning and merging multiple point clouds into a same coordinate system. It has many applications in computer vision, robotics, 3D reconstruction, augmented reality, and autonomous driving. Despite its wide-ranging utility, traditional algorithms grapple with challenges such as substantial noise, outliers, limited overlap, motion distortions, and handling large scenes. These complexities impede the effective deployment of point cloud registration in practical real-world scenarios. This paper conducts a comprehensive inquiry into the domain of deep learning-based point cloud registration. It synthesizes recent advancements in algorithms about point cloud registration grounded in deep learning. The exposition delineates insights from four distinct perspectives: multi-layer perceptron, deep neural network, graph convolutional network, and attention mechanism. Furthermore, the paper systematically reviews prevalent datasets and evaluation metrics associated with deep learning-based point cloud registration. Despite the complex punching shear behavior of reinforced concrete slabs have been comprehensively addressed in the literature, it is further essential to develop a universal design model comprising high accuracy and the simplicity for design practicability, adaptable to diverse conditions encountered in practice. Artificial intelligence applications, artificial neural networks (ANN), and more recently, various machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques veer off in a new direction in structural engineering context with improved accuracy and efficiency. The paper begins with the assessment of the capabilities of various artificial intelligence applications in predicting the punching shear strength of slab-column connections without shear reinforcement through the extensive database using 650 punching shear experiments from the literature. Critical parameters influencing the punching shear strength as well as the precision of the current code provisions in predicting this feature were then thoroughly examined in the paper. The results shown in this paper validated the competency of artificial intelligence applications in predicting the punching shear strength of such connections with increased accuracy and improved simplicity in practical terms. AbstractPrediction of heart diseases on time is significant in order to preserve life. Many conventional methods have taken efforts on earlier prediction but faced with challenges of higher prediction cost, extended time for computation and complexities with larger volume of data which reduced prediction accuracy. In order to overcome such pitfalls, AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology has been evolved in diagnosing heart diseases through deployment of several ML (Machine Learning) and DL (Deep Learning) algorithms. It improves detection by influencing with its capacity of learning from the massive data containing age, obesity, hypertension and other risk factors of patients and extract it accordingly to differentiate on the circumstances. Moreover, storage of larger data with AI greatly assists in analysing the occurrence of the disease from past historical data. Hence, this paper intends to provide a review on different AI based algorithms used in the heart disease prognostication and delivers its benefits through researching on various existing works. It performs comparative analysis and critical assessment as encompassing accuracies and maximum utilization of algorithms focussed by traditional studies in this area. The major findings of the paper emphasized on the evolution and continuous explorations of AI techniques for heart disease prediction and the future researchers aims in determining the dimensions that have attained high and low prediction accuracies on which appropriate research works can be performed. Classification with a few samples of training set has been a long-standing issue in the field of polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image analysis and processing. In fact, one of the most important challenges of the PolSAR image classification task is the number of labelled samples. In essence, training network by utilizing just few numbers of training samples cannot be led to the reliable result since the neural network is so sensitive to the number of training samples. In addition, in the real PolSAR image classification task, the huge number of training samples is not accessible. On the other hand, classification performance using just small number of labelled samples is not an accurate result. So, in this paper, aiming at the small number of training samples of the PolSAR image classification task, a novel ensemble self-supervised feature-learning (ESSFL) model is designed. The designed ESSFL can automatically extract PolSAR features conducive to PolSAR image classification with a small number of training samples. In addition, it can significantly decrease the dependence of neural network algorithms on large labelled samples of training set. First, to utilize the spatial–polarimetric features of PolSAR data perfectly, the EfficientNet-B0 is presented and utilized as the main section of the deep learning (DL) model to extract DL features of PolSAR data. Then, using an optimization function that constrains the cross-correlation matrix of various distortions of each sample to the identity matrix, the designed deep learning model can obtain the effective features of homogeneous samples gathering together and heterogeneous samples separating from each other in a self-supervised manner. Moreover, two ensemble learning (EL) models, feature-level and view-level ensemble, are proposed to increase the feature extraction capability and classification result by jointly using spatial features at different scales and polarimetric information at different bands. Finally, the stack of the obtained features and the main polarimetric information of PolSAR data can be input into classifier for the classification of PolSAR data. In this paper we use two different classifiers, the first one is the Random Forest (RF) classifier and the second one is the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. The advantages of SVM include that it can be used to avoid the difficulties of using linear functions in the high-dimensional feature space, and the optimization problem is transformed into dual convex quadratic programs that are so usable for an actual image classification task. In addition, among all the available classification methods, random forests provide one of the highest accuracies. The random forest technique can also handle big data with numerous variables running into thousands. In fact, it can automatically balance data sets when a class is more infrequent than other classes in the data that is so important for a real PolSAR image classification task. Experimental results on three well-known PolSAR data sets illustrate that the designed ESSFL can extract more discriminant features using the designed deep learning model. In the end, the experiments prove that the designed ESSFL has a significant classification performance compared with different deep learning models in the case of small number of training samples, and also it can achieve a better result in the case of large number of training samples by comparison with the most of the deep learning models. To address this issue of streak artifacts and noise caused by faster scanning in this paper, this paper presents a prunable U-NET++ with hybrid attention and loss function (HAL-UNET++) deep learning network, which is a U-shaped framework-based network for industrial CT image reconstruction. In this reconstruction network, the prior knowledge that CT images are sparse in the gradient domain is utilized, and a hybrid loss function is designed to combine the L0 norm of gradient image and the image signal-to-noise ratio. This ensures that the network’s learning process places greater emphasis on the noise content and sparsity of the image gradient domain. Subsequently, an adaptable convolutional block attention module has been incorporated into the shallow network layers to ensure the preservation of finer details in the CT images that are reconstructed. Finally, experimental objects comprising cables and rock samples with internal defects were used. The results indicate that the present reconstruction network, through pruning techniques, achieves rapid image reconstruction. Under the constraint of maintaining reconstruction accuracy, the pruned network demonstrates a reduction of approximately fourfold in network parameter volume compared to the unpruned network, resulting in a time saving of 0.24 seconds for the reconstruction of a single CT image. Emotion detection and Sentiment analysis techniques are used to understand polarity or emotions expressed by people in many cases, especially during interactive systems use. Recognizing users' emotions is an important topic for human–computer interaction. Computers that recognize emotions would provide more natural interactions. Also, emotion detection helps design human-centred systems that provide adaptable behaviour change interventions based on users' emotions. The growing capability of machine learning to analyze big data and extract emotions therein has led to a surge in research in this domain. With this increased attention, it becomes essential to investigate this research area and provide a comprehensive review of the current state. In this paper, we conduct a systematic review of 123 papers on machine learning-based emotion detection to investigate research trends along many themes, including machine learning approaches, application domain, data, evaluation, and outcome. The results demonstrate: 1) increasing interest in this domain, 2) supervised machine learning (namely, SVM and Naïve Bayes) are the most popular algorithms, 3) Text datasets in the English language are the most common data source, and 4) most research use Accuracy to evaluate performance. Machine learning is increasingly used as a computing paradigm in cartographic research. In this extended editorial, we provide some background of the papers in the CaGIS special issue Machine Learning in Cartography with a special focus on pattern recognition in maps, cartographic generalization, style transfer, and map labeling. This paper proposes a novel approach, BTC-SAGAN-CHA-MRI, for the classification of brain tumors using a SAGAN optimized with a Color Harmony Algorithm. Brain cancer, with its high fatality rate worldwide, especially in the case of brain tumors, necessitates more accurate and efficient classification methods. While existing deep learning approaches for brain tumor classification have been suggested, they often lack precision and require substantial computational time.The proposed method begins by gathering input brain MR images from the BRATS dataset, followed by a pre-processing step using a Mean Curvature Flow-based approach to eliminate noise. The pre-processed images then undergo the Improved Non-Sub sampled Shearlet Transform (INSST) for extracting radiomic features. These features are fed into the SAGAN, which is optimized with a Color Harmony Algorithm to categorize the brain images into different tumor types, including Gliomas, Meningioma, and Pituitary tumors. This innovative approach shows promise in enhancing the precision and efficiency of brain tumor classification, holding potential for improved diagnostic outcomes in the field of medical imaging. The accuracy acquired for the brain tumor identification from the proposed method is 99.29%. The proposed BTC-SAGAN-CHA-MRI technique achieves 18.29%, 14.09% and 7.34% higher accuracy and 67.92%,54.04%, and 59.08% less Computation Time when analyzed to the existing models, like Brain tumor diagnosis utilizing deep learning convolutional neural network with transfer learning approach (BTC-KNN-SVM-MRI); M3BTCNet: multi model brain tumor categorization under metaheuristic deep neural network features optimization (BTC-CNN-DEMFOA-MRI), and efficient method depending upon hierarchical deep learning neural network classifier for brain tumour categorization (BTC-Hie DNN-MRI) respectively. For the development of renewable energy generation as a viable alternative to fossil fuel-based generation, solar power has received widespread acceptance. An increase in solar power usage can mitigate the impact of climate change, energy demand, and cost-effective dispatch. To use solar power efficiently and ensure grid consistency, reliable and accurate forecasting of information becomes very crucial. Hence, the main purpose of this work is to get the best suitable solar irradiance forecasting model and to implement the forecasted solar power to the designed hybrid battery swapping stations. Each year, new techniques and approaches are used to improve the model accuracy with the critical aim of lowering the variability of predictions. This paper takes a close look at different deep-learning methods to predict solar irradiance for a certain period of time. The real-time time series data is used, and for analyzing the time series data, the statistical ARIMA model, LSTMbased RNN technique, and Dual Attention-based Recurrent Neural network have been used. These models are implemented using Jupyter Notebook with Python programming language. To analyze the efficiency and evaluate the performance of real-time data of the models, a comparative study has been done on the different error metrics. The existing prediction methods have complex model application, high requirements for data parameters, and are limited to the prediction of a single observation point. To address this problem, this paper proposes a deep learning-based surface subsidence prediction method. Taking Hefei City of China as the research area, the time-series surface deformation results of this area are obtained by using SBAS-InSAR, and then the SFLA intelligent algorithm and Elman neural network model are combined to predict the surface deformation of key urban areas, and the prediction results are compared and analyzed.The experimental results show that the prediction model proposed in this paper can not only accurately predict a single deformation point, but also predict regional land subsidence, and can be used for auxiliary decision-making of urban spatial planning, early warning of geological hazards and hazard mitigation. Building roofs are crucial elements that must be extracted from satellite images for use in services like updating geodatabases, risk analysis and rescue maps. The diversity and complexity of the building structures present challenges for accurate and efficient building rooftop extraction from very high resolution (VHR) images. The significance of building extraction from satellite imagery in various applications has attracted the attention of the research community in this domain. In this paper, the progression of the research in building extraction is presented based on two streams, such as Traditional building extraction techniques and Evolving DL-based building extraction techniques. Furthermore, the categorization of traditional techniques into transform-based techniques, indices-based methodologies and machine learning-based methodologies are summarized. An enhanced comprehension of the challenges associated with extracting buildings from aerial images using DL models is given. A performance analysis of the popular Deep Learning models used for building extraction, such as UNet, SegNet, ResUNet, UNet++, ENRUNet and Dilated ResUNet, in terms of Accuracy, IoU and Dice Loss is presented. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) are used in numerous fields, particularly to develop effective intrusion detection systems (IDS). Existing wireless network IDS, which rely on a single ML algorithm and have limitations. These include a high rate of false positives, difficulties in recognizing distinct attack patterns, and a high acquisition cost for annotated training datasets. However, hostile threats are always evolving, networks need a smart security solution. In comparison to other ML approaches, DL algorithms are more successful in intrusion detection. This paper presents a DL based ensemble model that combines Multi-verse through Chaotic Atom Search Optimization (MCA) for preprocessing, which eliminates unsolicited/recurrent information in the dataset. The process of optimized feature selection uses Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Chaotic Manta-ray Foraging Optimizations (CMFO), and a grounded grouping method to partition the optimized feature dataset into k-diverse clusters. The recommended model then stacks Support Vector Machine (SVM) as the ensemble model’s meta-learner classifier, pre-training the hybrid DL prototypes using the optimized feature dataset cluster. The CNN-LSTM and CNN-GRU models, which integrate Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), are the hybrid DL prototype’s key components. The suggested model’s performance has been enhanced and compared to six ML techniques: NB, SVM, J48, RF, MLP, and kNN models, utilizing measures such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure. This paper introduces a novel face photo-to-sketch synthesis method using a multi-scale feature-enhanced generative adversarial network (MFEGAN). The MFEGAN framework captures features at various scales through a multi-scale feature extraction module, enhanced by an attention mechanism. An improved attention residual block in the generator adaptively refines deep image features, improving overall quality. A pre-trained feature extraction network extracts and fuses face-specific features, enriching identity information. Multi-scale perceptual and focal frequency losses optimize detail quality, aligning with human perception. Nowadays, Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) gains more attraction due to its seamless and dynamic use. The existing methods in MANET are plagued by some weaknesses, like higher computation time, undermining their real-time responsiveness. Whereas, lower accuracy in intrusion detection compromises the reliability of these systems, potentially leading to missed threats posing a challenge for effective security measures in dynamic MANET environments. To mitigate these weaknesses, an Auto Metric Graph Neural Network optimized with Woodpecker Mating Algorithm is proposed in this paper for detecting Network Layer Attack in MANET (AGNN-WMA-DNLA-MANET). Initially, the data are gathered from CIC-IDS 2019 dataset. The gathered data undergoes pre-processing to eliminate redundancy and missing values replacement using the Local Least Squares method. Afterward, the preprocessing output is fed to AGNN for classification, which classifies the attack as active, passive, or normal. Then, Woodpecker Mating Algorithm (WMA) is proposed to optimize the AGNN weight parameters to ensure the accurate classification. The proposed technique is executed in NS2 tool. The metrics, like accuracy, false positive rate (FPR) and attack detection rate (ADR), computation time, and RoC is analyzed. The proposed AGNN-WMA-DNLA-MANET approach provides 14.68%, 7.142%, and 4.65% higher accuracy for active attack, 15.19%, 2.77%, and 9.85% higher accuracy for passive attack and 38.18%, 12.02%, and 7.59% better accuracy for normal compared with existing methods, such as Dependable intrusion detection scheme under deep convolutional neural network (DCNN-MANET), deep learning-based intrusion detection scheme for MANET (AE-DNN-MANET), and Benchmarking of machine learning for anomaly based intrusion detection scheme (ML-MANET), respectively. Environmental applications play a significant role in the ongoing research area of Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) image classification. In this paper, a new model is proposed for classifying PolSAR images and applied to a part of the Greater Cairo area in the Nile basin, South of Delta, Egypt. First, the proposed model performs data pre-processing by extracting the coherency and covariance elements noted as [T] and [C] matrices, respectively. Second, temporal convolutional networks (TCN) deep learning is used to extract the features from coherency and covariance elements and then train the model. Third, the SoftMax classifier is used to classify the PolSAR image. Finally, the proposed model is tested with evaluation metrics. The global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) causes severe respiratory problems in humans. The Chest X-ray (CXR) imaging technique majorly assists in detecting abnormalities in the chest and lung areas caused by COVID-19. Hence, developing an automatic system for CXR-based COVID-19 detection is vital for disease diagnosis. To accomplish this requirement, an enhanced Residual Network (ResNet) model is proposed in this paper for accurate COVID-19 detection. The proposed model combines the Depthwise Separable Convolutional ResNet and Pyramid dilated module(DSC-ResNet-PDM) for deep feature extraction. Employing the DSC layer minimizes the number of parameters to mitigate the overfitting issue. Further, the pyramid dilated module is used for extracting multi-scale features. The extracted features are finally fed into the optimized Medium Gaussian kernel Support Vector Machine classifier (MGKSVM) for COVID-19 detection. In the bridge structure, the main bearing element is the spans, which are directly subject to random and continuous loads, environmental influences, ageing, etc. These factors are easy to lead to material deterioration. Therefore, this study proposes a novel approach to investigate the mechanical properties of the material. The span of the bridge is the selected structure for investigation. This study focuses on the general evaluation of mechanical factors consistent with reality, so the following main factors are to be carried out. First, the viscoelastic model of material will be applied to set up and solve the governing differential equation of the beams with material characteristics involving the elastic modulus (E) and the viscous coefficient (C). The viscoelastic model is different from the traditional elastic model due to its non-linearity, reflecting the actual state of the structure. Second, the random vibration signal-based Loss Factor function (LF) calculation using the Power Spectral Density (PSD) to detect changes in structures. LF is a feature representing changes in material properties, including elasticity and viscosity, and is suitable for many types of bridge structures. Also, the paper uses Cubic Interpolation (CI) to generate a surface representing the LF distribution. This interpolation results in surfaces with respect to the LF values distributed by frequencies and spectral amplitudes. Finally, the LF distribution-based material investigation using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is proposed with high performance and accuracy. With increasing demand for electricity, wind turbines have gained significant attention from the public. Offshore wind power generation has emerged as a popular choice due to its potential to reduce power transmission losses and minimal impact on humans and organisms. However, it also presents challenges in detecting defects in Wind Turbine Rotor Blades (WTRB) and repairing them. To address this issue, this paper proposes an improved wavelet-based S-U-Net network to denoise WTRB images followed by a weakly supervised CNN method for removing background parts that could affect defective feature extraction. Defective features are then extracted using VGG16 network on a deep learning server platform, while an enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm combined with K-means is used to classify defect features of WTRBs. Experimental results demonstrate that classification accuracy of unlabelled blade defect datasets improved significantly from 62.6% using only Kmeans clustering method up to 96.4% using our proposed algorithm approach. This study applies improved PSO and Kmeans algorithms towards offshore Wind Turbine Rotor Blade condition monitoring with precise detection test results enabling early-stage detection of Wind Turbine Rotor Blades defects leading to timely repairs. Land-cover classification based on remote sensing technology has been adopted for decision-making concerning agricultural development, urban planning, and ecosystem protection in arid oasis zones. The semantic segmentation method based on deep learning, as a new paradigm, can effectively overcome the limitations of traditional pixel-based and object-based methods and obtain good classification results from high spatial resolution (HSR) remote sensing images. However, how to extract the exact category boundary and realize the high precision mapping is still a problem. This paper proposes a novel high-resolution feature pyramid attention network (HRFPANet) for land-cover classification. It effectively integrates the advantages of multi-scale feature extraction, attention mechanism, and feature fusion and alleviates boundary inconsistency, roughness, and category fragmentation associated with previous semantic segmentation models. The experimental results show that the mIoU score of HRFPANet is 79.5%, which is 11.5% and 2.6% higher than that of PSPNet and UPerNet, respectively. AbstractEpilepsy is a brain disorder that causes patients to suffer from convulsions, which affects their behavior and way of life. Epilepsy can be detected with electroencephalograms (EEGs), which record brain neural activity. Traditional approaches for detecting epileptic seizures from an EEG signal are time-consuming and annoying. To supersede these traditional methods, a myriad of automated seizure detection frameworks based on machine learning techniques have recently been developed. Feature extraction and classification are the two essential phases for seizure detection. The classifier assigns the proper class label after feature extraction lowers the input pattern space while maintaining useful features. This paper proposes a new feature extraction method based on calculating nonlinear features from the most relevant EEG frequency bands. The EEG signal is first decomposed into smaller time segments from which a vector of nonlinear features is computed and supplied to machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) classifiers. Experiments on the Bonn dataset reveals an accuracy of 99.7% reached in classifying normal and ictal EEG signals; and an accuracy of 98.8% in the discrimination of ictal and interictal EEG signals. Furthermore, a performance of 100% is achieved on the Hauz Khas dataset. The classification results of the proposed approach were compared to those from published state of the art techniques. The application of neural networks in wheat ear detection and counting in smart agriculture holds significant value, showcasing how artificial intelligence technology brings innovation and improvement to the agricultural sector. However, due to the high density, variety, and complex growth cycles of wheat ears, as well as the influence of complex backgrounds during detection, issues such as false positives, false negatives, and low detection rates may arise. Addressing these challenges, this paper proposes a wheat ear detection solution based on the FasterCANet-YOLOv8s algorithm. Firstly, the FasterCANet Block is introduced to enhance the speed of wheat detection. Secondly, an efficient network structure, the QAFPN model, is proposed to strengthen the Neck network, achieving a balance between speed and accuracy in wheat detection. Finally, to better capture the features of small targets, the RFB Block is introduced to improve the SPPF layer. The improved algorithm achieves an mAP@0.5 of 94.4%, surpassing existing technologies. In the context of rapidly increasing energy demands and environmental concerns, optimizing energy management in commercial buildings is a critical challenge. Smart grids, empowered by advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS), play a pivotal role in addressing this challenge through Demand Side Management (DSM). However, the efficiency of DSM-based building EMS is often limited by the accuracy of load forecasting. This paper addresses this gap by exploring load forecasting models within DSM-based building EMS, focusing on a case study in a commercial building in Ankara, Turkey. Employing Deep Learning (DL) models for load forecasting, we provide inputs for rule-based controllers to enhance energy efficiency. Our major contribution is the development of the ANFIS-IC algorithm, aimed at maximizing demand response participation in commercial buildings. ANFIS-IC, integrating ANFIS controllers with LSTM-based load consumption forecasts, leads to a 33.14% reduction in energy consumption and a 39.22% decrease in energy costs, surpassing the performance of rule-based controllers alone which achieve reductions of 25.34% in energy consumption and 34.03% in energy costs. These findings not only highlight the potential of integrating rule-based controllers with deep learning algorithms but also underscore the importance of accurate load forecasting in improving the effectiveness of DSM-based building EMS. Online signature verification is one of the biometric authentication techniques. Online signature verification reduces the human error that may occur due to physical signature verification. Many researchers have provided a method of online signature verification still there is a scope for improvement. In this paper, a novel blended feature vector (BFV) is formed by combining two feature vectors. The first of these feature vectors is formed using a raw online signature database and the other feature vector is formed of the features extracted from the grayscale images obtained from the signature database. The algorithm makes use of the probability distribution of the features to provide a feature vector that results in an enhanced verification system. Two online signature databases, namely SVC2004 and ATVS-SSig are used. BFV is used to train the proposed mixed sequence deep neural network (MS-DNN). The use of a blended feature vector in the training of MS-DNN, instead of a whole online signature database, improves the training time of deep neural network to a great extent. This reduction in training time might be useful for new user registration. The performance parameters considered are validation efficiency and equal error rate. Results are compared with the existing state of technology and the comparison shows that the use of a blended feature vector as a classification vector improves the validation efficiency (99.5%) and also there is an improvement in the verification success rate in terms of equal error rate (EER 1.5%) as compared to the existing research. The use of deep learning-based high resolution remote sensing image sea and land segmentation method has become prevalent in various fields such as environmental monitoring, resource assessment, and urban planning. However, the segmentation process faces challenges due to the complex coastline and the similarity in spectral colour difference between the sea and land in certain areas. The remote sensing images obtained from satellites often exhibit unclear boundaries between the sea and land, as well as intricate coastlines. Consequently, the segmentation of sea and land becomes a difficult task. The existing sea-land segmentation methods have limitations in accurately segmenting long and narrow waters, as well as areas with low differentiation between sea and land. In this paper, we propose a new sea-land segmentation method called SRMA (Swin-Res-Multi-Attention). SRMA performs parallel feature extraction using a dual-branch parallel: Swin-Transformer branch and ResNet branch. The combination of Swin-Transformer's self-attention and ResNet's residual design helps reduce the loss of feature information, thereby avoiding incorrect segmentation in regions with low distinctness. To improve overall stability, we introduce the MCA (Multiscale channel attention module) module, which combines feature information from different scales. The multi-scale pyramid design of MCA module ensures stability and improves segmentation accuracy in narrow waters. Experimental results on a public dataset demonstrate that our model outperforms existing methods. Additionally, we evaluate the model's performance in complex scenarios by creating a new dataset that includes a complex urban water body and cloud interference. This paper addresses the challenge of training deep learning models for fire smoke scene detection from multi-sensor, multi-spectral satellite imagery, where spectral bands vary and training data is scarce, especially for new sensors. We introduce a novel cross-sensor transfer learning approach enhanced by spectral pattern extraction, notably aided by a deep learning (DL) module called Input Amplification (IA). Our contribution includes the creation of two datasets, Landsat_smk2770 and Sentinel2_smk, with varying spectral bands. We employ a model named IA_VIB_SD which incorporates IA and is designed specifically for fire smoke scene detection. We investigated the transferability of the Landsat_smk2770-trained IA_VIB_SD model to the Sentinel2_smk dataset using various transfer learning techniques, and compared the performance of the transferred model with the benchmark IA_VIB_SD model exclusively trained on pure Sentinel2_smk data. Our proposed transfer learning approach resulted in a transferred model with an average accuracy 5% higher than the benchmark model. Notably, Our proposed transfer learning approach outperformed existing transfer learning methods by more than 1% in terms of the accuracy, even when trained on a mere 10% of the Sentinel2_smk dataset. The development of the modern urban economy is closely tied to road construction, with roads being one of the most crucial components in urban development. The use of high-resolution remote sensing images to monitor the road conditions in cities and surrounding towns has become a highly emphasized research focus in recent years. However, due to the complexity of the environment, this task still faces significant challenges. For instance, urban road structures are intricate, which involve multiple lanes, intersections, building obstructions, etc. Rural roads may consist of narrow paths or irregular dirt roads. In addressing these issues, this paper proposes a road extraction algorithm based on a Dual-Encoder-Decoder U- Net (DEDU-Net). The algorithm leverages a dual encoder-decoder network to extract multi-scale information from the image. It then employs a dual decoder network to restore the feature map to the original image, achieving precise road extraction. Additionally, a new module, the Global Fusion Module (GFM), is introduced. This module achieves global context information fusion by weighting features. In the experimental section, two publicly available datasets were used for testing: the CHN6-CUG dataset and the Gansu Mountain Road dataset. For example, for the Gansu Mountain Road and CHN6-CUG mixed dataset, the model achieved an Overall Accuracy (OA) of 94.947% and a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 70.971%. Remote sensing detection is a difficult task that requires not only identifying objects with complex background, quality, and angle issues, but also being lightweight enough to be carried by edge devices. In real remote sensing scenarios, achieving accurate, fast, and low-resource-consumption automated detection remains a significant challenge. Therefore, this paper proposes an efficient balanced network (EB-Net) for real remote sensing devices. First, a dynamic sparse attention (DSA) mechanism is proposed and has been proven with high performance via the complexity analysis. In addition, a new dynamic sparse transformer (DSFormer) is constructed using DSA, which enhances feature information and adapts to image resolution by self-attention and multi-headed attention, and achieves more flexible computation by random sampling. Then, three versions of discrete distribution IoU (DDIoU) are defined for adapting various scenarios and tasks in remote sensing, and this loss function makes the model achieve high accuracy and more lightweight. Finally, to make the model more lightweight, a cropped SPPF (CroSPPF) is presented, which significantly improves the computational efficiency by the lightweight of the sequence structure and activation function. Ablation experiments are conducted on the NWPU VHR-10 dataset, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. Numerous comparisons with state-of-the-art detectors are conducted on the NWPU VHR-10, RSOD and DOTA datasets. Automatic detection of foot lift is one of the most important events of Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). The FES system is used for the correction of Foot Drop (FD). FD is a condition where a person is unable to lift their foot from the ground due to complications that may arise after a stroke or spinal cord injury. It is crucial to accurately detect the patient’s foot lift event when correcting FD through FES as the pulse should only be applied when the person lifts their foot. The FES system applies the electrical pulse based on the input of the foot-lift detection sensor. A conventional FES system employs a sensor that is affixed on the heel to detect the lifting of the foot, but the connecting cables make the patient uncomfortable. To address this problem, IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)-based sensors have been used, but they have some disadvantages, such as false triggering, low accuracy, and calibration. In this paper, we have presented an algorithm for detecting foot-lift events with high accuracy using a single IMU sensor through the application of deep learning techniques. We have recorded data from 10 healthy people and 10 foot drop patients. We have implemented Artificial Neural Network (ANN), K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models on these data and compared the results of these three models. Anemia is a severe health condition commonly prevalent among women of reproductive age and children below five years. Screening patients before the condition becomes critical and can save many lives. World Health Organization (WHO) has set the "Global nutrition target 2025-anemia," aiming to reduce 50% of anemia cases among women of reproductive age. This target can be achieved through a time-efficient, cost-effective, and easy-to-use tool. Traditional testing methods require specific chemicals, machines, and equipment that are not available everywhere. It also requires the presence of nurses, laboratory workers, and doctors. These methods are costly, time-consuming, and produce biohazard waste, thus polluting the environment. We developed an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based bot that can be used for screening people for anemia. The bot service is based on two models: a segmentation model to segment the Region of Interest (ROI) and a classification model to classify anemic cases from normal ones. To train the model, we have collected data from 160 anemic and 140 non-anemic persons. In this paper, we have explained the architecture of the models, all the training parameters, and their deployment on cloud services using the REAN chatbot service. We manage to reach an Intersection Over Union (IOU) score of 0.922 for the segmentation model; validation recall of 0.95 and validation accuracy of 0.9699 for the classification model. This system is easy to use and does not depend on the availability of comprehensive laboratory infrastructure or trained personnel and thus can enable screening of anemia in low-resource settings. Diagnosis of Uveitic Macular Edema (UME) using Spectral Domain OCT (SD-OCT) is a promising method for early detection and monitoring of sight-threatening visual impairment. Viewing multiple B-scans and identifying biomarkers is challenging and time-consuming for clinical practitioners. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes an image classification hybrid framework for predicting the presence of biomarkers such as intraretinal cysts (IRC), hyperreflective foci (HRF), hard exudates (HE) and neurosensory detachment (NSD) in OCT B-scans along with their severity. A dataset of 10880 B-scans from 85 Uveitic patients is collected and graded by two board-certified ophthalmologists for the presence of biomarkers. A novel image classification framework, Dilated Depthwise Separable Convolution ResNet (DDSC-RN) with SVM classifier, is developed to achieve network compression with a larger receptive field that captures both low and high-level features of the biomarkers without loss of classification accuracy. The severity level of each biomarker is predicted from the feature map, extracted by the proposed DDSC-RN network. The proposed hybrid model is evaluated using ground truth labels from the hospital. The deep learning model initially, identified the presence of biomarkers in B-scans. It achieved an overall accuracy of 98.64%, which is comparable to the performance of other state-of-the-art models, such as DRN-C-42 and ResNet-34. The SVM classifier then predicted the severity of each biomarker, achieving an overall accuracy of 89.3%. A new hybrid model accurately identifies four retinal biomarkers on a tissue map and predicts their severity. The model outperforms other methods for identifying multiple biomarkers in complex OCT B-scans. Energy generation and pollutant emissions are two faces of the same coin, as the current energy sources i.e., fossil energy, are still considered to be major sources of greenhouse gases (GHG). Therefore, shifting to cleaner energy sources imposes itself as an inevitable solution to reduce this environmental cost. In this paper, a hybrid system based on the multi-agent approach and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks to forecast the energy production and its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and simulate the potential emission reduction in case of switching to renewable energy sources is presented. The proposed system's architecture consists of combining LSTM models with the agent-based technology, where multiple LSTM forecasting models were trained to forecast the production of each type of the studied energies and then estimate the equivalent emitted CO2 and calculate the influence of the renewable energy inputs on the carbon emissions and the fossil fuels consumption. The simulation process consists of two phases: firstly, each forecasting agent uses a specific LSTM model to forecast short-term energy production. Multiple kernel learning (MKL) is an efficient way to improve hyperspectral image classification with few training samples by integrating spectral and spatial features. Nonetheless, presenting a MKL algorithm to capture significant information and eliminate redundancy is indispensable. In this paper, a novel graph-based MKL method (GMKL) is introduced to enhance the performance of the MKL algorithm and achieve high discriminative features, resulting in maximum separability. To do so, an informative low-rank graph is determined via a new algorithm called block diagonal representation that takes into account both local and global data structures. Then, in lieu of a time-consuming search for finding the optimal combination of the basic kernels, unlike the prior works, an optimal projective direction is acquired using graph theory. Various basic kernels generated from superpixels and attribute profiles are projected to produce a discriminative combination of kernels. Eventually, the optimum kernel is given to the support vector machine classifier. Experiments have been conducted on two popular hyperspectral datasets (Indian Pines and Pavia University). For the datasets, the proposed algorithm gained 90.43% and 99.28% overall accuracy, respectively, using only 1% training samples, which is much better than the state-of-the-art MKL algorithm and deep learning-based approaches with lower computational time. Advances in hardware capabilities and big data technologies over the past decade have enabled the application of deep learning techniques to address the challenge of super-resolution in remote-sensing images. Recently, while deep-learning-based methods have outperformed traditional methods, the abundance of information in remote-sensing images creates an imbalance between performance and computational resource consumption in current deep-learning-based methods. This paper introduces a stable super-resolution algorithm based on parameter reconstructive optimization to address these issues. First, based on the stable super-resolution generative adversarial network (SSRGAN), the algorithm employs a generator with networks using residual connections to reconstruct images with enhanced resolution. Next, it extracts content, adversarial, and regularization losses using the discriminator from a stable super-resolution generative adversarial network, which in turn guides the training of the network. Finally, upon completion of training, structural re-parameterization is conducted to optimize the multi-branch trained network into a plain inference network. This inference network can serve as an individual new generator. The results of qualitative and quantitative experimental comparisons with the models Bicubic, super-resolution convolutional neural network, very deep super-resolution convolutional network, deep recursive residual network, super-resolution generative adversarial network (SRGAN), enhanced SRGAN, and stable SRGAN on the Gaofen-5 AHSI satellite dataset suggest that this algorithm achieves improved evaluation indices with a 4× magnification ratio, reaching a peak signal-to-noise ratio of 30.7207 dB and structural similarity index measure of 0.8178. Compared with the trained but unconverted generator, which can also work independently, implementing re-parameterization results in approximately a 10% reduction in the number of parameters, indicating lower resource consumption, while the reconstruction effect is minimally influenced. In inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging, the conventional range-Doppler (RD) algorithm cannot obtain satisfactory imaging results for sparse aperture. Compressed sensing (CS) imaging methods, such as the typical iterative shrinkage and thresholding algorithm (ISTA), are often used in sparse aperture radar imaging. However, CS-based methods have high computational complexity and difficulty in setting parameters. To overcome the shortcomings, a new deep unfolding network named complex-valued weighted learning ISTA (CV-WLISTA) is proposed in this paper. The new network is very efficient and can learn the parameters adaptively. Based on ISTA and a new weighting strategy, it takes advantage of both the sparsity and the structural property of ISAR images to improve imaging performance. The experimental results show that CV-WLISTA has better reconstruction performance and higher efficiency compared with the traditional algorithms. Automatic building detection from remote sensing images holds significant applications in various domains, including cartography, land-use change detection, urban planning, and 3D intelligent city construction. Driven by the innovation of deep learning technology, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have emerged as a powerful framework for automatic interpretation, exhibiting hierarchical feature generation and robust representation for building extraction. However, the inherent computational limitations of convolutional operators hinder the acquisition of an effective global receptive field. Recent advancements in deep learning have witnessed the adoption of the multi-head self-attention (MHSA) mechanism by Transformer, presenting the superiority of global context construction. Nonetheless, this network structure encounters difficulties in effectively modelling two-dimensional spatial structure features with scale variation in semantic segmentation and often has huge parameters with high algorithm complexity. To address the above problems, this paper proposed a hybrid deep neural network synergistically harnessing the superiority of CNN and Transformer to extract buildings from remote sensing images. Meanwhile, an improved MHSA mechanism is developed to facilitate the construction of multiscale global representations, concurrently reducing computational complexity. Furthermore, the cross-level MHSA modules the semantic correlation between the deep and shallow-level features to refine spatial fine-grained information. The proposed method was comprehensively evaluated on two building datasets via quantitative analysis and visualization. The experimental results confirmed that the developed network and modules outperform other state-of-the-art methods and can effectively improve the accuracy (93.4% F1-score on the WHU dataset, 89.38% F1-score on the CAMB dataset) with high efficiency for building extraction. In response to the issues of low detection accuracy, slow speed, excessively large models, and difficult deployment in existing coal gangue recognition algorithms, a coal gangue target detection network based on an inverted residual structure is proposed. By conducting in-depth research on advanced edge computing networks, DPsP structure and DsP structure have been devised in this paper, while incorporating GhostModule to construct the GDPs-YOLO network within the YOLOv8s. The experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the GDPs-YOLO network compared to both the baseline network and the control network. In comparison with the YOLOv5 series, YOLOv8 series, and four advanced edge computing networks, an increase in detection accuracy for coal gangue targets by a maximum of 2.5%, 1.6%, and 3.3% is observed, respectively. The model simultaneously exhibits enhanced speed and reduced model size, with a speed increase ranging from 12.5% to 86.85% compared to the control network. The compressibility of the model ranges from 24.07% to 94%. The inference latency measures approximately 2.8 ms, while the image processing speed reaches around 357 images per second, thereby satisfying the requirements for real-time detection. Pine wilt disease (PWD), caused by pine wood nematodes, has brought a great loss in ecology and economy all over the world. In China, the forest health status is also significantly affected by PWD since 1980, especially in coniferous forests and mixed forest regions. The PWD spreads very fast and can cause a healthy pine wood tree to die within a very short time. An effective way to protect other healthy pine wood trees is to discover PWD trees early. Using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images can help people discover the PWD tree quickly and accurately, and a few automatical methods have been developed to monitor PWD trees including the deep learning methods. Because of the robust spatial-temporal transferability, deep learning methods have become the mainstream algorithms to monitor PWD trees. As we know, the training dataset is the most important material to train a deep learning model. However, there is still a lack of a PWD segmentation dataset so far. To fill this gap, in this paper, we have generated the first open-sourced PWD segmentation dataset based on very high-resolution UAV images to help the community conduct PWD monitor research conveniently. This dataset has 994 training samples, and each sample has visible bands with 512 × 512 pixels, and the spatial resolution of this dataset is 0.05 m. In order to train an advanced segmentation model, we have designed a lightweight deep-learning model for mobile devices or edge devices in this manuscript, named MobileSeg. The main feature of MobileSeg is its decoupling, which uses the re-parameterization technology to improve the model performance. Finally, a large-scale real-world scenario experiment with very high-resolution UAV images was utilized to validate the performance of MobileSeg, the experiment result indicated that MobileSeg has achieved the best performance compared with the recent lightweight segmentation models, and the experiment also proved the effectiveness of the proposed PWD dataset. Although the emergence of deep learning has improved the performance of automatic building extraction, there is still a long way to go before it can completely replace the labour-intensive manual delineation of building contours. To narrow the gap between building extraction results of deep learning methods and manual-level annotations, this paper introduces an interactive semantic segmentation framework that uses manual clicks as interactive information to guide the process of semantic segmentation towards the manual annotation level. In our framework, we first use an interactive semantic segmentation network for coarse building extraction from high resolution remote sensing images. Then, we use an optimization network to further refine the extraction results. We comprehensively compare the automatic deep learning methods, the proposed interactive building extraction framework, and the full manual delineation in practical experimental settings. First, our interactive method can significantly improve the performance of automatic building extraction. Second, by comparing the efficiency of manual annotation using the ArcGIS software and our interactive method, it is found that the proposed method can save more than half of the time. The rapid enhancement in social media over the internet generates massive information in real-time scenarios, which has a striking impact on big data analysis. It resulted in the elevated usage of emotions and sentiments in social media. This paper proffers a proficient sentiment analysis technique in Twitter data. The Twitter database is preprocessed includes, stemming, tokenisation, number removal and stop word removal, etc. The preprocessed words are then passed into the HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) to reduce the repeated words and are eliminated using the MapReduce technique. The emoticons and the non-emoticons are extorted as features. The resulted features are ranked with their intended meaning. Then, the classification is performed utilising the DLMNN (Deep Learning Modified Neural Network). The experimental results were examined by using the output parameter such as Accuracy, Recall, Precision, F-Score and Execution Time with other conventional techniques such as ANN, SVM, K-Means and DCNN to show the greatest outcome of the proposed model. In the early stages of many diseases, a diagnosis can be made automatically using a computer-aided system, with some degree of certainty. This paper presents a hybrid optimal deep learning-based model for tuberculosis disease recognition using MRI images. Several deep learning models are combined to extract the most relevant features from MRI images. In particular, we establish a combination between vision transformer (ViTs) and Efficient-Net models in order to maximize classification accuracy. We conducted experiments to investigate the accuracy of the proposed model using the Shenzhen and Montgomery data set, and found that it yielded substantially more accurate and better results than the state of-the-art works. While numerous models based on deep learning have produced impressive results in the domain of image denoising, there has been limited research on applying deep neural networks to tackle the issue of cloud removal in remote sensing images. This paper proposes a novel model, the Hybrid Attention Generative Adversarial Network (HyA-GAN), that blends the channel attention mechanism and the spatial attention mechanism and integrates it into a generative adversarial network. By incorporating both the channel attention mechanism and the spatial attention mechanism, HyA-GAN permits the network to prioritize regions that are vital for image processing. This feature leads to an improvement in the network's capacity to recover data and generate remote sensing images with superior cloud removal effects. When comparing HyA-GAN with other existing cloud removal models on the RICE dataset, it outperformed them in both peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM). PV(photovoltaic) systems have been deployed more in the recent years to support green energy generation. In the recent era, grid tied PV has been sparked by the emergence of the electricity market and offers an alternative solution to traditional fossil fuel-based electricity generation. A few of the potential impacts of solar PV on grid are false tripping of feeders, unwanted tripping, unnecessary islanding, and blind protection. In this research paper, different artificial intelligence techniques are tested in order to overcome the protection challenges. The PSCAD/EMTDC software package is used to analyze a section of the power system, and an algorithm has been constructed using Python v3.8 and MATLAB 2018. On an IEEE-9 BUS power system connected to a PV source, the Artificial Neural Network, Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, and Convolution Neural Network (CNN) algorithms are implemented to classify the faults. The suggested methods are proven effective for both in-zone and out-of-zone problems on power lines interconnected with solar park. The proposed techniques have been validated using total 16,320 internal and external fault cases with a wide range of system parameters alteration. In the proposed system, the effectiveness of several machine learning and deep learning techniques is compared. The obtained results demonstrate that CNN provides greater accuracy in the presence of a PV source, but at the same time, it is appropriate for a large number of data sets. In recent years, semantic segmentation algorithms based on deep learning have been widely used in building extraction, which requires large sample data and does not consider the geometric features of the building, and the effect of the extraction is greatly affected by the data scene, while the traditional methods are difficult to extract the remote sensing buildings accurately because they only consider their greyscale features when extracting them. To solve this problem, we propose a method for building classification extraction from remote sensing images that combine over-pixel and maximum interclass variance. The method combines superpixel and maximum interclass variance (OTSU). First, a number of superpixel subregions with different shapes and sizes are generated based on the watershed transform. Then, the superpixels of buildings are merged using the spectral features of buildings, so the first extraction of buildings is achieved by this method.Then, the noise is suppressed with median filtering. Finally, the post-extraction of buildings is performed according to the OTSU algorithm. In this paper, seven images of buildings located in different landscapes were selected. Potato is one of the most nutritious foods rich in fiber and essential vitamins and minerals. However, potato plants may suffer from diseases such as early blight, late blight, septoria leaf spot or skin diseases such as greening, silver scurf, common scab, black rot etc. These diseases may lead to huge losses in the potato yield annually. Hence, an early prediction of such diseases is required so that they can be controlled at an early stage. Several machine learning, IoT based and image processing techniques have been utilized for this purpose, and this paper aims to survey all such methods and prediction models. A total of 116 studies were analyzed, and out of them, 77 relevant studies belonging to (60%) journals, (34%) conferences and (6%) other sources have been surveyed. It has been observed that most of the selected studies (64%) have used RGB image data (proprietary or PlantVillage dataset). Also, majority of the studies (48%) have worked with imbalanced data. Late blight and early blight are the two diseases that have gained the most attention by the researchers, being included in 58% and 34% of the studies. Moreover, feature extraction/selection has been used only with image data (RGB and hyperspectral). Convolutional Neural Network is the most widely used classifier, followed by Support Vector Machines. This review will help the researchers gain an insight into the work done for disease detection in potato crop and what techniques or diseases need intervention so that yield losses can further be minimized. Declassified images from the Keyhole (KH)-9 HEXAGON mapping camera system (MCS) offer fine-scale details of urban regions. However, these images have seldom been utilized in urban research due to challenges in labelling (collecting training samples), having only a single panchromatic band and classification. To tackle these limitations, this paper focuses on developing a multi-stage reconstructed historical fine-scale urban landscape (RHFUL) pipeline for KH-9 HEXAGON MCS. The proposed pipeline first integrates internalized parameters, hierarchical object-based image analysis properties and class variability to synthesize new features, abbreviated to IHC. Second, the pipeline uses a weak semi-automated supervised labelling (WSSL) approach to acquire training samples. Finally, the training samples and generated features are subjected to the SegNet deep learning architecture. The performance of each step was assessed against corresponding state-of-the-art benchmark approaches for each of synthesizing features, labelling and classification. In the proposed RHFUL pipeline, the proposed IHC provided the most salient information for urban classification, WSSL labelled urban features more accurately, and the SegNet architecture classified more accurately the urban features relative to the benchmarks. Considering the potential advantages, but also limitations of KH-9 HEXAGON MCS images, further research should be undertaken, particularly drawing on the current advances in pattern recognition techniques for contemporary digital satellite sensors. This paper surveys the historical progress of AI from its origins in logic-based systems like the Logic Theorist to recent deep learning breakthroughs like Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), Generative Pretrained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) and Large Language Model Meta AI (LLaMA). The early rule-based systems using handcrafted expertise gave way to statistical learning techniques and neural networks trained on large datasets. Milestones like AlexNet and AlphaGo established deep learning as a dominant AI approach. Transfer learning enabled models pre-trained on diverse corpora to excel at specialised downstream tasks. The scope of AI expanded from niche applications like playing chess to multifaceted capabilities in computer vision, natural language processing and dialogue agents. However, current AI still needs to catch up to human intelligence in aspects like reasoning, creativity, and empathy. Addressing limitations around real-world knowledge, biases, and transparency remains vital for further progress and aligning AI with human values. This paper devises a technique for diagnosing and classifying osteoporosis using the femur bone's X-ray images. The devised approach uses the following phases: image acquisition, pre-processing, segmentation of femur boundary, measurement of femoral geometry, feature mining, and osteoporosis categorization. Here, femur boundary segmentation is done using the Deep Contour Aware Network (DCAN), which is trained by the Chronological Artificial Ecosystem Optimization (CAEO) algorithm. Then, the femoral geometry is measured and the most relevant features in the image are identified. Further, osteoporosis is classified using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with Transfer Learning (TL), where the CNN is employed with the hyperparameters of the pre-trained model, LeNet. Here, the Chronological Artificial Ecosystem Tasmanian Devil Optimization (CAETDO) algorithm optimizes the classification process. The CAETDO-CNN-TL is examined based on metrics and have the values of 0.910, 0.927, 0.928, and 0.904 for precision, True Negative Rate (TNR), True Positive Rate (TPR), and accuracy, correspondingly. Predicting mortality rates is a crucial issue in life insurance pricing and demographic statistics. Traditional approaches, such as the Lee-Carter model and its variants, predict the trends of mortality rates using factor models, which explain the variations of mortality rates from the perspective of ages, gender, regions, and other factors. Recently, deep learning techniques have achieved great success in various tasks and shown strong potential for time-series forecasting. In this paper, we propose a modified Transformer architecture for predicting mortality rates in major countries around the world. Through the multi-head attention mechanism and positional encoding, the proposed Transformer model extracts key features effectively and thus achieves better performance in time-series forecasting. By using empirical data from the Human Mortality Database, we demonstrate that our Transformer model has higher prediction accuracy of mortality rates than the Lee-Carter model and other classic neural networks.
