Avoiding financial losses requires preventing catastrophic oil‐filled power transformer breakdowns. Continuous online transformer monitoring is needed. The authors use paper insulation to evaluate transformer health for continuous online transformer monitoring. The study suggests a new artificial intelligence method for estimating paper insulation residual life in oil‐immersed power transformers. The four artificial intelligence models use backpropagation‐based neural networks to predict paper insulation lifespan. Four primary transformer insulating paper failure indices—degree of polymerisation, 2‐furfuraldehyde, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide—form the basis of these models. Each model, including the backpropagation‐based neural networks, estimates paper insulation life using one failure index, along with moisture and temperature data. Optimisation techniques enhance hidden layer neurons and epoch count for improved performance. Results are validated against literature‐based life models, establishing a precise input–output correlation. This method accurately predicts the remaining useable life of power transformer paper insulation, enabling utilities to take proactive measures for safe and efficient transformer operation. Visual information is important in final approach and landing phases for an approaching aircraft, it presents supplementary source for navigation system, and provides backup guidance when radio navigation fails, or even supports a complete vision‐based landing. Relative position and attitude can be solved from the runway features in the image. Traditional runway detection methods have high latency and low accuracy, which is unable to satisfy the requirements for a safe landing. This paper proposes a real‐time runway detection model, efficient runway feature extractor (ERFE), based on deep convolutional neural network, generating semantic segmentation and feature lines output. In order to evaluate the model's effectiveness, a benchmark is proposed to calculate the actual error between predicted feature line and ground truth one. A novel runway dataset which is based on pictures from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (FS2020), is also proposed in this paper to train and test the model. Background: Humans often use co‐speech gestures to promote effective communication. Attention has been paid to the cortical areas engaged in the processing of co‐speech gestures. Aims: To investigate the neural network underpinned in the processing of co‐speech gestures and to observe whether there is a relationship between areas involved in language and gesture processing. Methods & Procedures: We planned to include studies with neurotypical and/or stroke participants who underwent a bimodal task (i.e., processing of co‐speech gestures with relative speech) and a unimodal task (i.e., speech or gesture alone) during a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) session. After a database search, abstract and full‐text screening were conducted. Qualitative and quantitative data were extracted, and a meta‐analysis was performed with the software GingerALE 3.0.2, performing contrast analyses of uni‐ and bimodal tasks. Main Contribution: The database search produced 1024 records. After the screening process, 27 studies were included in the review. Data from 15 studies were quantitatively analysed through meta‐analysis. Meta‐analysis found three clusters with a significant activation of the left middle frontal gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus, and bilateral middle occipital gyrus and inferior temporal gyrus. Conclusions: There is a close link at the neural level for the semantic processing of auditory and visual information during communication. These findings encourage the integration of the use of co‐speech gestures during aphasia treatment as a strategy to foster the possibility to communicate effectively for people with aphasia. Power line inspection is an important means to eliminate hidden dangers of power lines. It is a difficult research problem how to solve the low accuracy of power line inspection based on deep neural network (DNN) due to the problems of multi‐view‐shape, small‐size object. In this paper, an automatic detection model based on Feature visual clustering network (FVCNet) for power line inspection is established. First, an unsupervised clustering method for power line inspection is proposed, and applied to construct a detection model which can recognize multi‐view‐shape objects and enhanced object features. Then, the bilinear interpolation method is used to Feature enhancement method, and the enhanced high‐level semantics and low‐level semantics are fused to solve the problems of small object size and single sample. In this paper, FVCNet is applied to the MS‐COCO 2017 data set and self‐made power line inspection data set, and the test accuracy is increased to 61.2% and 82.0%, respectively. Background: Accurate segmentation of lung nodules is crucial for the early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer in clinical practice. However, the similarity between lung nodules and surrounding tissues has made their segmentation a longstanding challenge. Purpose: Existing deep learning and active contour models each have their limitations. This paper aims to integrate the strengths of both approaches while mitigating their respective shortcomings. Methods: In this paper, we propose a few‐shot segmentation framework that combines a deep neural network with an active contour model. We introduce heat kernel convolutions and high‐order total variation into the active contour model and solve the challenging nonsmooth optimization problem using the alternating direction method of multipliers. Additionally, we use the presegmentation results obtained from training a deep neural network on a small sample set as the initial contours for our optimized active contour model, addressing the difficulty of manually setting the initial contours. Results: We compared our proposed method with state‐of‐the‐art methods for segmentation effectiveness using clinical computed tomography (CT) images acquired from two different hospitals and the publicly available LIDC dataset. The results demonstrate that our proposed method achieved outstanding segmentation performance according to both visual and quantitative indicators. Conclusion: Our approach utilizes the output of few‐shot network training as prior information, avoiding the need to select the initial contour in the active contour model. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the utilization of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in learning models that address the nonlinear anisotropic flow and hysteresis retention behavior of deformable porous materials. Herein, the micro‐geometries of various networks of porous Bentheimer Sandstones subjected to several degrees of strain from the literature are considered. For the generation of the database required for the training, validation, and testing of the machine learning (ML) models, single‐phase and biphasic lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations are performed. The anisotropic nature of the intrinsic permeability is investigated for the single‐phase LB simulations. Thereafter, the database contains the computed average fluid velocities versus the pressure gradients. In this database, the range of applied fluid pressure gradients includes Darcy as well as non‐Darcy flows. The generated output from the single‐phase flow simulations is implemented in a feed‐forward neural network, representing a path‐independent informed graph‐based model. Concerning the two‐phase LB simulations, the Shan‐Chen multiphase LB model is used to generate the retention curves of the cyclic drying/wetting processes in the deformed porous networks. Consequently, two different ML path‐dependent approaches, that is, 1D convolutional neural network and the recurrent neural network, are used to model the biphasic flow through the deformable porous materials. A comparison in terms of accuracy and speed of training between the two approaches is presented. Conclusively, the outcomes of the papers show the capability of the ML models in representing constitutive relations for permeability and hysteretic retention curves accurately and efficiently. This paper trains a multilayered neural network (MLNN) for solving fractional delay differential equations (FDDEs), including nonlinear and singular types. The proposed methodology involves replacing the unknown functions in the equations with a truncated power series expansion. Subsequently, a collection of algebraic equations is solved utilizing an iterative minimization technique that leverages the capabilities of the MLNN architecture. The surface texture of asphalt pavement has a significant effect on skid resistance performance. However, its contribution to the performance of skid resistance is non‐homogeneous and subjects to local validity. There are also a few deep learning models that take into account the effective contact texture region. This paper proposes a convolutional neural network model based on the effective contact texture region, containing macro‐ and micro‐scale awareness sub‐modules. In this study, the asphalt mixture with varying gradations was designed to accurately obtain the effective contact texture region. Then, the textures were disentangled into macro‐ and micro‐texture scales by applying the fast Fourier transform and fed into the model for training. Finally, the area of effective contact texture region was calculated, and the effective contact ratio parameter was then proposed using the triangulation algorithm. The results showed that the effective contact texture area of pavement varies by the asphalt mixture type. The effective contact ratio parameter exhibited a significant positive correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient is 0.901, R2= 0.8129) with skid resistance performance and was also influenced by key sieve aggregate content from 2.36 to 4.75 mm. The data of effective contact texture region following disentanglement significantly released the model performance (the relative error dropped to 1.81%). The development of fragility curves is an important step in seismic risk assessment within the scope of performance‐based earthquake engineering. The goal of this work is to use machine learning methods (regression‐based tools) to forecast the large‐span precast parking structural responses and fragility curves. This study proposes five predicting models based on machine learning to evaluate the seismic performance of the large‐span precast parking structures, including: neural networks, genetic algorithm‐based neural networks, support vector machine, decision tree and random forest. A database that includes 453 numerical synthetic results was used to train and test the machine learning models. The seismic performance of large‐span precast parking structures were predicted using the constructed machine learning models. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of input parameters was conducted. From this paper we can conclude that: (1) the genetic optimization‐based neural networks' predicting model has the most accurate predictive ability for seismic fragility estimation and (2) the structural responses and the fragility curves of parking structures are related to the differences of the stiffness of the connectors and the number of floors, of which the stiffness of the connectors should be given special attention. In recent years, research on infrared and visible image fusion has mainly focused on deep learning‐based approaches, particularly deep neural networks with auto‐encoder architectures. However, these approaches suffer from problems such as insufficient feature extraction capability and inefficient fusion strategies. Therefore, this paper introduces a novel image fusion network to address the limitations of infrared and visible image fusion networks with auto‐encoder architectures. In the designed network, the encoder employs a multi‐branch cascade structure, and these convolution branches with different kernel sizes provide the encoder with an adaptive receptive field to extract multi‐scale features. In addition, the fusion layer incorporates a non‐local attention module that is inspired by the self‐attention mechanism. With its global receptive field, this module is used to build a non‐local attention fusion network, which works together with the l1${l}_1$‐norm spatial fusion strategy to extract, split, filter, and fuse global and local features. Machine learned fault detection approaches are being increasingly used for fault detection in distribution grid. However, the performance of the models can be improved by customizing the models. In this regard, a customised artificial neural network (CANN) for fault detection in a distribution grid is proposed in this paper. The proposed work develops a CANN that combines the "up‐pyramid" and "down‐pyramid" model of ANN into a "custom‐pyramid" model. As a result, the same model can be used both for determining the types of fault as well as its location. The data needed to train the model has been taken from a reconfigured IEEE‐33 bus distribution system developed in Typhoon HIL real‐time simulator. Spectral‐kurtosis is utilized for extraction of features of the faulted transient signals which are used as input data to develop the CANN. The result showcases that the reduction of input features reduces computational complexity without compromising its accuracy. The proposed model classifies fault location with an accuracy of 95.43%. The proposed method also identifies fault type with an accuracy of 96.08%. Several test cases have been developed to test the method. The method proved to be able to perform in most of the cases. The driver authority decision for driver‐initiated takeover is closely related to vehicle driving safety. In this paper, a lateral driver‐automation driver authority decision method considering the safety of the intended functionality is proposed to improve vehicle driving safety. Based on systems‐theoretic processes analysis, functional safety analysis of driver initiative takeover is carried out to clarify the safety of the intended functionality issues caused by the unreasonable decision. Then, a method for defining the safe driving area is developed to assess the safety level of the driving area around the ego vehicle. Taking the driver‐vehicle state parameters and vehicle–vehicle state parameters as input, a deep neural network model is constructed to determine the intention of the driver to take over the vehicle. The lateral driver‐automation driver authority decision method is designed to make the driver‐machine take‐over decisions, which considers the safety of the intended functionality. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated via numerical simulation and hardware‐in‐the‐loop experiments. The results show that the designed method not only improves the control ability of the driver to the maximum extent but also integrates the perception ability of the driver into the vehicle control system to improve further vehicle driving safety. High‐angle cameras are commonly used for trajectory data collection in transportation research. However, without refinement and validation, trajectory data obtained through video processing software may be unreliable, inaccurate, or incomplete. This paper focuses on a critical issue in the field of trajectory data acquisition and analysis—there is still no reliable and fully vetted trajectory dataset in the research community. The current practice for validating video‐based trajectory can be classified as indirect methods and direct methods. Indirect methods of trajectory validation use algorithms to efficiently correct data anomalies without human intervention but may overlook detailed driving behaviors, whereas direct methods involve meticulous manual verification to preserve data fidelity but are labor‐intensive and less scalable. The spatial‐temporal maps (STMaps) method offers an additional layer of verification to affirm the accuracy and reliability of trajectory data. To enhance the performance, the deep spatial‐temporal embedding model is proposed for trajectory instance segmentation on STMaps using the contrastive learning framework. The parity constraints at both pixel and instance levels guide the deep neural network to learn the embedding spaces that can be built on different backbone networks. The reconstructed Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) highway dataset trajectory dataset is thoroughly validated against manually processed ground truth, and the error‐free NGSIM data are refined to be a reliable resource for transportation research based on car‐following behaviors, lane‐change frequency, consistency, and jerk value measurements. The reliable design of multiphase micro‐structured apparatus requires a precise knowledge of the internal flow regime. Previous research indicated that classifiers based on artificial neural networks (ANN) are relatively simple to develop and provide a reasonable accuracy when trained with data for specific inlet designs. This paper introduces advanced ANN classifiers capable of predicting all relevant flow regimes regardless of the inlet design with a recall of 94 % and above for Taylor, churn, dispersed, rivulet, and parallel flows, between 89 % and 94 % for annular and bubbly flows, and 83 % for Taylor‐annular flow. In order to balance accuracy and real‐time performance in semantic segmentation, this paper proposes a real‐time semantic segmentation algorithm model based on attention mechanism and multi‐branch feature fusion using Fast convolutional neural network model (Fast‐SCNN). In this method, the spatial detail feature enhancement branch is introduced to enhance spatial detail features firstly. Then, through rational design of fusion module, the feature information of each branch is optimized to achieve better fusion of deep and shallow features. At the end of the feature fusion module, an adaptive feature enhancement focus module is introduced to capture the interdependence between remote pixels. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 71.55% segmentation accuracy on Cityscapes dataset, the reasoning speed FPS is 97.6 frames/s, and the number of parameters is 1.39 M, which verifies the effectiveness of the network model constructed by the algorithm. Interpreting a seemingly simple function word like "or," "behind," or "more" can require logical, numerical, and relational reasoning. How are such words learned by children? Prior acquisition theories have often relied on positing a foundation of innate knowledge. Yet recent neural‐network‐based visual question answering models apparently can learn to use function words as part of answering questions about complex visual scenes. In this paper, we study what these models learn about function words, in the hope of better understanding how the meanings of these words can be learned by both models and children. We show that recurrent models trained on visually grounded language learn gradient semantics for function words requiring spatial and numerical reasoning. Furthermore, we find that these models can learn the meanings of logical connectives and and or without any prior knowledge of logical reasoning as well as early evidence that they are sensitive to alternative expressions when interpreting language. Finally, we show that word learning difficulty is dependent on the frequency of models' input. Our findings offer proof‐of‐concept evidence that it is possible to learn the nuanced interpretations of function words in a visually grounded context by using non‐symbolic general statistical learning algorithms, without any prior knowledge of linguistic meaning. Purpose: The macular ganglion cell layer (mGCL) is a strong potential biomarker of axonal degeneration in multiple sclerosis (MS). For this reason, this study aims to develop a computer‐aided method to facilitate diagnosis and prognosis in MS. Methods: This paper combines a cross‐sectional study of 72 MS patients and 30 healthy control subjects for diagnosis and a 10‐year longitudinal study of the same MS patients for the prediction of disability progression, during which the mGCL was measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Deep neural networks were used as an automatic classifier. Results: For MS diagnosis, greatest accuracy (90.3%) was achieved using 17 features as inputs. The neural network architecture comprised the input layer, two hidden layers and the output layer with softmax activation. For the prediction of disability progression 8 years later, accuracy of 81.9% was achieved with a neural network comprising two hidden layers and 400 epochs. Conclusion: We present evidence that by applying deep learning techniques to clinical and mGCL thickness data it is possible to identify MS and predict the course of the disease. Intelligent rice disease recognition methods based on deep neural networks can predict the degree of disease on the basis of, for example, the number of disease spots on an image, so that preventive measures can be taken. Currently, intelligent recognition methods for rice diseases suffer from the disadvantages of poor versatility and low accuracy. This paper uses eight common image classification networks to classify and identify four rice diseases. ResNet50 was selected as the feature extraction network and an enhanced feature fusion and target adaptive network (EFFTAN), referred to as EFFTAN, is proposed. The EFFTAN was used to detect four rice spot diseases in the rice leaf disease image samples dataset; the mean average precision of the final detection was 95.3%, and effective detection was also achieved for the dense spot features. Many test coverage metrics have been proposed to measure the deep neural network (DNN) testing effectiveness, including structural coverage and nonstructural coverage. These test coverage metrics are proposed based on the fundamental assumption: They are correlated with test effectiveness. However, the fundamental assumption is still not validated sufficiently and reasonably, which brings question on the usefulness of DNN test coverage. This paper conducted a revisiting study on the existing DNN test coverage from the test effectiveness perspective, to effectively validate the fundamental assumption. Here, we carefully considered the diversity of subjects, three test effectiveness criteria, and both typical and state‐of‐the‐art test coverage metrics. Different from all the existing studies that deliver negative conclusions on the usefulness of existing DNN test coverage, we identified some positive conclusions on their usefulness from the test effectiveness perspective. In particular, we found the complementary relationship between structural and nonstructural coverage and identified the practical usage scenarios and promising research directions for these existing test coverage metrics. The safety and robustness of deep neural networks (DNNs) are currently of great concern. Adequate testing is commonly an effective technique to ensure the software's trustworthiness. However, existing DNN testing methods generate many invalid test inputs, which inevitably brings increased computational overhead and reduces the efficiency of DNN testing. In this paper, we focus on testing task‐specific DNN and investigating diverse, valid and natural test input generation based on data augmentation techniques. Specifically, we propose AugTest, a DNN testing method based on stochastic optimization with momentum, searching for optimal compositions of data augmentation parameters to efficiently generate diverse and valid test inputs. Experimental results show that our proposed method can effectively explore the data manifold space and find valid test inputs with high diversity and naturalness. Compared with the best‐performing baseline, AugTest can generate more test inputs with more average diversity and less average time. Furthermore, the generated test inputs have competitive generalizability to DNNs with different structures. The test error rates exceed 70% when testing other DNN models performing similar tasks using the test inputs generated by AugTest. Exposure of cells to non‐optimal growth conditions or to any environment that reduces cell viability can be considered as a stress. In this paper, we are going to highlight the main factors that determine the danger of stress to a cell considered as a biochemical system. To this end, we introduce a new mathematical concept of biosystem stability, where we take into account a signal transduction by deep gene networks. Using this concept and known results on approximations by deep networks, we find asymptotic estimates of the size and the depth of gene regulation networks that define the stress response. We propose a new algorithm to find the gene network approximating a prescribed output. It allows us, with the help of Kolmogorov ϵ$$ \epsilon $$‐entropy and the deep neural network theory, to estimate the number of genes involved in regulation of responses on a stress (for example, a heat shock). We show that the main factors that increase the sensitivity of the systems with respect to a stress are the number of biochemical network parameters affected by the stress and sensitivities of kinetic rates with respect to these parameters. This paper provides a method for improving the photovoltaic conversion efficiency and optical attributes of silicon solar cells manufactured from as‐cut boron doped p‐type multi‐crystalline silicon wafers using acid‐based chemical texturization via machine learning. A decreased reflectance, which can be attained by the right chemical etching conditions, is one of the key elements for raising solar cell efficiency. In this work, the mc‐Silicon wafer surface reflectance is obtained under (<2%) after optimization of wet chemical etching. The HF + HNO3 + CH3COOH chemical etchant is used in the ratio 1:3:2 at different conditions of the etching duration of 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, and 4 min, respectively. The as‐cut boron doped p‐type mc‐silicon wafers are analysed with ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, optical microscopy, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, thickness profilometer, and scanning electron microscopy before and after etching. The chemical etching solution produces good results in 3 min etched wafer, with a reflectivity value of <2%.The reflectivity and optical images are inputs to the convolutional neural network model and the linear regression model to obtain the etching rate for better reflectivity. The classification model provides 99.6% accuracy and the regression model results in the minimum mean squared error (MSE) of 0.062. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Text-independent speaker verification (TI-SV) is a crucial task in speaker recognition, as it involves verifying an individual's claimed identity from speech of arbitrary content without any human intervention. The target for TI-SV is to design a discriminative network to learn deep speaker embedding for speaker idiosyncrasy. In this paper, we propose a deep speaker embedding learning approach of a hybrid deep neural network (DNN) for TI-SV in FM broadcasting. Not only acoustic features are utilized, but also phoneme features are introduced as prior knowledge to collectively learn deep speaker embedding. The hybrid DNN consists of a convolutional neural network architecture for generating acoustic features and a multilayer perceptron architecture for extracting phoneme features sequentially, which represent significant pronunciation attributes. The extracted acoustic and phoneme features are concatenated to form deep embedding descriptors for speaker identity. The hybrid DNN demonstrates not only the complementarity between acoustic and phoneme features but also the temporality of phoneme features in a sequence. Skin cancer is a common type of malignant tumor that poses a serious threat to patients' lives and health, especially melanoma. It may spread to other body parts, resulting in serious complications and death. In the medical field, accurate identification of skin lesion images is crucial for diagnosing different diseases. However, due to the similarity between different skin lesions, it brings some challenges to medical diagnosis. In this paper, a novel Ensemble Learning Model (EL‐DLOA) based on deep learning and optimization algorithms is proposed, which uses four different deep neural network architectures to generate confidence levels for classes, and optimization algorithms are used to integrate these confidence levels to make the final predictions. To ensure the model's accuracy and reliability, it is first trained using three different learning rates to find the best classification performance of the model. Then, a new search method based on the grey wolf optimization algorithm is proposed to enhance the grey wolf search efficiency. The method improves the search mechanism by changing the grey wolf's individual position through random perturbation or adaptive mutation, which solves the problem that the grey wolf algorithm is easy to fall into local optimum. Finally, four different ensemble strategies are used to reduce individual model bias in the classification process. The proposed model is trained and evaluated using the publicly available dataset HAM10000. The experimental results show that the improved grey wolf optimization algorithm effectively avoids the premature convergence problem and improves the search combination efficiency. Furthermore, in the ensemble methods, the adaptive weight average ensemble strategy effectively improves the classification performance, yielding accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores of 0.888, 0.837, 0.897, and 0.862, respectively. These metrics show varying degrees of improvement over the best performing single model. In general, the results indicate that the proposed method achieves high accuracy and practicality in skin lesion classification. Background: Diagnosis and treatment management for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is guided by routine diagnostic head and neck computed tomography (CT) scans to identify tumor and lymph node features. The extracapsular extension (ECE) is a strong predictor of patients' survival outcomes with HNSCC. It is essential to detect the occurrence of ECE as it changes staging and treatment planning for patients. Current clinical ECE detection relies on visual identification and pathologic confirmation conducted by clinicians. However, manual annotation of the lymph node region is a required data preprocessing step in most of the current machine learning‐based ECE diagnosis studies. Purpose: In this paper, we propose a Gradient Mapping Guided Explainable Network (GMGENet) framework to perform ECE identification automatically without requiring annotated lymph node region information. Methods: The gradient‐weighted class activation mapping (Grad‐CAM) technique is applied to guide the deep learning algorithm to focus on the regions that are highly related to ECE. The proposed framework includes an extractor and a classifier. In a joint training process, informative volumes of interest (VOIs) are extracted by the extractor without labeled lymph node region information, and the classifier learns the pattern to classify the extracted VOIs into ECE positive and negative. Results: In evaluation, the proposed methods are well‐trained and tested using cross‐validation. GMGENet achieved test accuracy and area under the curve (AUC) of 92.2% and 89.3%, respectively. GMGENetV2 achieved 90.3% accuracy and 91.7% AUC in the test. The results were compared with different existing models and further confirmed and explained by generating ECE probability heatmaps via a Grad‐CAM technique. The presence or absence of ECE has been analyzed and correlated with ground truth histopathological findings. Conclusions: The proposed deep network can learn meaningful patterns to identify ECE without providing lymph node contours. The introduced ECE heatmaps will contribute to the clinical implementations of the proposed model and reveal unknown features to radiologists. The die shear test is a feasible and conventional method to characterize the shear strength of die‐attaching layer materials in electronic packaging. A new method for determining cohesive zone model (CZM) parameters using deep neural networks (DNN) and die shear tests is proposed, different from classical fracture framework or lap shear test‐based methods. With the sintered nano‐silver die shear test, the results show that the bilinear CZM inversion results agree well with the experimental results. It is found that the DNN model has high accuracy in predicting and identifying the maximum shear traction strength τmax, separation displacement of the interface δf, and the interface stiffness k1 of CZM parameters for sintered nano‐silver adhesive layer through die shear test load versus displacement curves. The presented DNN‐aided inverse identifying method through the die shear test in this paper could provide an alternative and convenient method for extracting CZM parameters of various kinds of adhesive materials in electronic packaging. Fuel savings, energy savings, and reduction of CO2 emissions are the key requirements in electric and hybrid electric vehicles (EVs and HEVs). These requirements are achieved through the usage of start‐stop systems, high‐rate energy boost during acceleration, and recovery of the energy during braking. Unfortunately, the commonly used lithium‐ion batteries are not a sufficient solution, although their performance is enhanced by supercapacitors. This hybrid system used is only a temporary solution. Therefore, lithium‐titanate‐oxide batteries (Li4Ti5O12—LTO), show high‐rate discharging and charging performance, high power capability, excellent cycle life, and improved cycle stability at wide‐rate temperatures and current rates are promising candidates for HEV and EV applications. There is a need to monitor the state of charge (SoC) for the reliability, performance, and safety of LTO batteries with the help of a battery management system. However, the conventional SoC estimation methods, such as open circuit voltage, Coulomb counting, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and linear Kalman filter algorithm become insufficient. In this paper, a new nonlinear approach for the SoC estimation of an LTO battery is presented. The approach combines the static battery model and the sigma point Kalman filter (SPKF) algorithm while adapting to both constant load and dynamic load. The results show that the SPKF algorithm successfully estimated the SoC of the LTO battery under various initial SoC initialization values. It is also supported by various metric errors calculated. Detecting science–technology hierarchical linkages is beneficial for understanding deep interactions between science and technology (S&T). Previous studies have mainly focused on linear linkages between S&T but ignored their structural linkages. In this paper, we propose a network coupling approach to inspect hierarchical interactions of S&T by integrating their knowledge linkages and structural linkages. S&T knowledge networks are first enhanced with bidirectional encoder representation from transformers (BERT) knowledge alignment, and then their hierarchical structures are identified based on K‐core decomposition. Hierarchical coupling preferences and strengths of the S&T networks over time are further calculated based on similarities of coupling nodes' degree distribution and similarities of coupling edges' weight distribution. Extensive experimental results indicate that our approach is feasible and robust in identifying the coupling hierarchy with superior performance compared to other isomorphism and dissimilarity algorithms. Background: Online collaborative learning has been widely adopted in the field of education. However, learners often find it difficult to engage in collaboratively building knowledge and jointly regulating online collaborative learning. Objectives: The study compared the impacts of the three learning approaches on collaborative knowledge building, group performance, socially shared regulation, behavioural engagement, and cognitive load in an online collaborative learning context. The first is the automatic construction of knowledge graphs (CKG) approach, the second is the automatic analysis of topic distribution (ATD) approach, and the third one is the traditional online collaborative learning (OCL) approach without any analytic feedback. Methods: A total of 144 college students participated in a quasi‐experimental study, where 48 students learned with the CKG approach, 48 students used the ATD approach, and the remaining 48 students adopted the OCL approach. Results and Conclusions: The findings revealed that the CKG approach could encourage collaborative knowledge building, socially shared regulation, and behavioural engagement in building knowledge better than the ATD and OCL approaches. Both the CKG and ATD approaches could better improve group performance than the OCL approach. Furthermore, the CKG approach did not increase learners' cognitive load, but the ATD approach did. Implications: This study has theoretical and practical implications for utilising learning analytics in online collaborative learning. Human interaction has changed considerably with the emergence of the Internet. Today, a large percentage of daily communication takes place on instant messaging applications and social networks. In fact, there has been a considerable increase in the use of social networks because new social networks are being created for specific purposes, such as the search for employment or tourism. When the amount of content on a social network is large, it is necessary to help users find content of their interest. In this regard, artificial intelligence techniques can greatly facilitate the task of searching for relevant content. This paper presents a recommender system for a business and employment oriented social network, on which users are recommended job offers and other user profiles to follow. The presented system is based on virtual organizations of agents, and uses artificial neural networks to determine whether job offers and users should be recommended or not. One of the most common attacks is man‐in‐the‐middle (MitM) which, due to its complex behaviour, is difficult to detect by traditional cyber‐attack detection systems. MitM attacks on internet of things systems take advantage of special features of the protocols and cause system disruptions, making them invisible to legitimate elements. In this work, an intrusion detection system (IDS), where intelligent models can be deployed, is the approach to detect this type of attack considering network alterations. Therefore, this paper presents a novel method to develop the intelligent model used by the IDS, being this method based on a hybrid process. The first stage of the process implements a feature extraction method, while the second one applies different supervised classification techniques, both over a message queuing telemetry transport (MQTT) dataset compiled by authors in previous works. The contribution shows excellent performance for any compared classification methods. Likewise, the best results are obtained using the method with the highest computational cost. In this paper, by introducing memristive connections and inertial term into quaternion‐valued neural networks, the quaternion‐valued inertial memristive neural networks (QVIMNNs) is proposed. Based on the adaptive control strategy, the synchronization problem of the QVIMNNs is analyzed in this work. Two different assumption for activation functions are considered in this work; new criteria for global synchronization are then derived by designing novel adaptive controllers and update laws. Electrochemical sensors are used to measure target analytes in water, meat, fruits, or vegetables, to ensure their safety, security, and integrity for human use. In this paper, a solution‐based fabrication process is presented for a biodegradable electrochemical free chlorine sensor using asparagine that is functionalized onto graphene oxide (GO). An ink solution of the GO functionalized with asparagine is synthesized, and then deposited onto a screen‐printed carbon electrode (SPCE) using a spin coater. The sensor shows high a sensitivity of 0.30 µA ppm−1 over a linear range of 0–8 ppm with a hysteresis‐limited resolution of 0.2 ppm after achieving a steady state at 50 s. From the development and testing of the free chlorine sensor, over 9000 datapoints are collected and used for training an artificial neural network (ANN) model to quantify and characterize the factors affecting the free chlorine sensor's performance, and model its degradation characteristics. The model reports a low mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.1603 and a high model accuracy with a Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) of 0.9950, demonstrating that these degradation characteristics can be modeled and be used to compensate the degraded performance characteristics of the free chlorine sensors. Since the discovery of the quasicrystal, approximately 100 stable quasicrystals are identified. To date, the existence of quasicrystals is verified using transmission electron microscopy; however, this technique requires significantly more elaboration than rapid and automatic powder X‐ray diffraction. Therefore, to facilitate the search for novel quasicrystals, developing a rapid technique for phase‐identification from powder diffraction patterns is desirable. This paper reports the identification of a new Al–Si–Ru quasicrystal using deep learning technologies from multiphase powder patterns, from which it is difficult to discriminate the presence of quasicrystalline phases even for well‐trained human experts. Deep neural networks trained with artificially generated multiphase powder patterns determine the presence of quasicrystals with an accuracy >92% from actual powder patterns. Specifically, 440 powder patterns are screened using the trained classifier, from which the Al–Si–Ru quasicrystal is identified. This study demonstrates an excellent potential of deep learning to identify an unknown phase of a targeted structure from powder patterns even when existing in a multiphase sample. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly used in medical education, but our understanding of the validity of AI‐based assessments (AIBA) as compared with traditional clinical expert‐based assessments (EBA) is limited. In this study, the authors aimed to compare and contrast the validity evidence for the assessment of a complex clinical skill based on scores generated from an AI and trained clinical experts, respectively. Methods: The study was conducted between September 2020 to October 2022. The authors used Kane's validity framework to prioritise and organise their evidence according to the four inferences: scoring, generalisation, extrapolation and implications. The context of the study was chorionic villus sampling performed within the simulated setting. AIBA and EBA were used to evaluate performances of experts, intermediates and novice based on video recordings. The clinical experts used a scoring instrument developed in a previous international consensus study. The AI used convolutional neural networks for capturing features on video recordings, motion tracking and eye movements to arrive at a final composite score. Results: A total of 45 individuals participated in the study (22 novices, 12 intermediates and 11 experts). The authors demonstrated validity evidence for scoring, generalisation, extrapolation and implications for both EBA and AIBA. The plausibility of assumptions related to scoring, evidence of reproducibility and relation to different training levels was examined. Issues relating to construct underrepresentation, lack of explainability, and threats to robustness were identified as potential weak links in the AIBA validity argument compared with the EBA validity argument. Conclusion: There were weak links in the use of AIBA compared with EBA, mainly in their representation of the underlying construct but also regarding their explainability and ability to transfer to other datasets. However, combining AI and clinical expert‐based assessments may offer complementary benefits, which is a promising subject for future research. Background: Kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), as a common case in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), has the risk of postoperative recurrence, thus its prognosis is poor and its prognostic markers are usually based on imaging methods, which have the problem of low specificity. In addition, cuproptosis, as a novel mode of cell death, has been used as a biomarker to predict disease in many cancers in recent years, which also provides an important basis for prognostic prediction in KIRC. For postoperative patients with KIRC, an important means of preventing disease recurrence is pharmacological treatment, and thus matching the appropriate drug to the specific patient's target is also particularly important. With the development of neural networks, their predictive performance in the field of medical big data has surpassed that of traditional methods, and this also applies to the field of prognosis prediction and drug-target prediction. Objective: The purpose of this study is to screen for cuproptosis genes related to the prognosis of KIRC and to establish a deep neural network (DNN) model for patient risk prediction, while also developing a personalized nomogram model for predicting patient survival. In addition, sensitivity drugs for KIRC were screened, and a graph neural network (GNN) model was established to predict the targets of the drugs, in order to discover potential drug action sites and provide new treatment ideas for KIRC. Methods: We used the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) database, and DrugBank database for our study. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened using TCGA data, and then a DNN-based risk prediction model was built and validated using ICGC data. Subsequently, the differences between high- and low-risk groups were analyzed and KIRC-sensitive drugs were screened, and finally a GNN model was trained using DrugBank data to predict the relevant targets of these drugs. Results: A prognostic model was built by screening 10 significantly different cuproptosis-related genes, the model had an AUC of 0.739 on the training set TCGA data) and an AUC of 0.707 on the validation set (ICGC data), which demonstrated a good predictive performance. Based on the prognostic model in this paper, patients were also classified into high- and low-risk groups, and functional analyses were performed. In addition, 251 drugs were screened for sensitivity, and four drugs were ultimately found to have high sensitivity, with 5-Fluorouracil having the best inhibitory effect, and subsequently their corresponding targets were also predicted by GraphSAGE, with the most prominent targets including Cytochrome P450 2D6, UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1A, and Proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase receptor Ret. Notably, the average accuracy of GraphSAGE was 0.817±0.013, which was higher than that of GAT and GTN. Conclusion: Our KIRC risk prediction model, constructed using 10 cuproptosisrelated genes, had good independent prognostic ability. In addition, we screened four highly sensitive drugs and predicted relevant targets for these four drugs that might treat KIRC. Finally, literature research revealed that four drug-target interactions have been demonstrated in previous studies and the remaining targets are potential sites of drug action for future research. Artificial neural networks‐based module for fast direction‐of‐arrival (DoA) estimation of the signal received by multi‐element textile wearable antenna array (TWAA) is proposed in this paper. The developed multilayer perceptron (MLP) DoA module considers the effects of changing the gain of the antenna elements, the distance between the antenna elements and their resonant frequencies during the movement of the TWAA wearer and the crumpling of the textile. The inputs of the MLP DoA module are the elements of the spatial correlation matrix of the signal sampled by the TWAA and the output is the angular position of the signal source in the azimuthal plane. The influence of the number of TWAA elements on the accuracy of the MLP DoA module in DoA estimation under textile crumple conditions is investigated. The performances of the MLP DoA module under increased noise conditions are investigated, as well as its behavior under different degrees of textile crumpling. A comparison was made between the proposed module and the corresponding root MUSIC DoA module in terms of accuracy and speed of DoA estimation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
