The revolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Web of Things (WoT) has brought new opportunities and challenges for the information retrieval (IR) field. The exponential number of interconnected physical objects and real-time data acquisition requires new approaches and architectures for IR systems. Research and prototypes can be crucial in designing and developing new systems and refining architectures for IR in the WoT. This paper proposes a unified and holistic approach for IR in the WoT, called IR.WoT. The proposed system contemplates the critical indexing, scoring, and presentation stages applied to some smart cities' use cases and scenarios. Overall, this paper describes the research, architecture, and vision for advancing the field of IR in the WoT and addresses some of the remaining challenges and opportunities in this exciting area. The article also describes the design considerations, cloud implementation, and experimentation based on a simulated collection of synthetic XML documents with technical efficiency measures. The experimentation results show promising outcomes, whereas further studies are required to improve IR.WoT effectiveness, considering the WoT dynamic characteristics and, more importantly, the heterogeneity and divergence of WoT modeling proposals in the IR domain. The Internet of Things (IoT) includes billions of sensors and actuators (which we refer to as IoT devices) that harvest data from the physical world and send it via the Internet to IoT applications to provide smart IoT services and products. Deploying, managing, and maintaining IoT devices for the exclusive use of an individual IoT application is inefficient and involves significant costs and effort that often outweigh the benefits. On the other hand, enabling large numbers of IoT applications to share available third-party IoT devices, which are deployed and maintained independently by a variety of IoT device providers, reduces IoT application development costs, time, and effort. To achieve a positive cost/benefit ratio, there is a need to support the sharing of third-party IoT devices globally by providing effective IoT device discovery, use, and pay between IoT applications and third-party IoT devices. A solution for global IoT device sharing must be the following: (1) scalable to support a vast number of third-party IoT devices, (2) interoperable to deal with the heterogeneity of IoT devices and their data, and (3) IoT-owned, i.e., not owned by a specific individual or organization. This paper surveys existing techniques that support discovering, using, and paying for third-party IoT devices. To ensure that this survey is comprehensive, this paper presents our methodology, which is inspired by Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA), combining the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology with Citation Network Analysis (CNA). In the era of continuous development in Internet of Things (IoT) technology, smart services are penetrating various facets of societal life, leading to a growing demand for interconnected devices. Many contemporary devices are no longer mere data producers but also consumers of data. As a result, massive amounts of data are transmitted to the cloud, but the latency generated in edge-to-cloud communication is unacceptable for many tasks. In response to this, this paper introduces a novel contribution—a layered computing network built on the principles of fog computing, accompanied by a newly devised algorithm designed to optimize user tasks and allocate computing resources within rechargeable networks. The proposed algorithm, a synergy of Lyapunov-based, dynamic Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), allows for predictive task allocation. The fog servers dynamically train LSTM networks to effectively forecast the data features of user tasks, facilitating proper unload decisions based on task priorities. In response to the challenge of slower hardware upgrades in edge devices compared to user demands, the algorithm optimizes the utilization of low-power devices and addresses performance limitations. Additionally, this paper considers the unique characteristics of rechargeable networks, where computing nodes acquire energy through charging. Utilizing Lyapunov functions for dynamic resource control enables nodes with abundant resources to maximize their potential, significantly reducing energy consumption and enhancing overall performance. The simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm surpasses traditional methods in terms of energy efficiency and resource allocation optimization. Despite the limitations of prediction accuracy in Fog Servers (FS), the proposed results significantly promote overall performance. The Internet of Things (IoT) is an important virtual network that allows remote users to access linked multimedia devices. The development of IoT and its ubiquitous application across various domains of everyday life has led to continuous research efforts. Security is a perceptual concern for researchers involved in IoT as it is a key factor in the acceptance of any innovative technology. Numerous research studies have been conducted concentrating on the level of IoT security on a particular mechanism, on specific applications, or on categorizing vulnerabilities, in order to address a defined situation of securing an IoT network. This present paper aims to comprehensively review potential solutions for securing IoT, between emerging and traditional mechanisms, such as blockchain, machine learning, cryptography, and quantum computing. This study provides a comparative analysis of related papers with their characteristics, pros and cons. Accordingly, it taxonomizes relevant solutions based on their achieved security requirements. The rapid growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has changed human interactions with the environment. IoT networks require specialized defense strategies distinct from traditional corporate contexts. Security measures such as anti-malware software, firewalls, authentication protocols, and encryption techniques are established but face limitations against evolving attack strategies. Therefore, this study proposes an intrusion detection approach for a realistic IoT environment, employing various variants of deep learning models such as deep neural networks (DNNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). The research tested three variants for each model: DNN1, DNN2, DNN3, CNN1, CNN2, CNN3, RNN1, RNN2, RNN3. All these variants are customized and tuned differently to analyze the efficacy of the suggested methodology. Likewise, notable observation highlights the significance of aligning training and validation accuracy curves that indicate controlled overfitting, validating the model's reliability in accurately predicting intrusion and benign network traffic in IoT settings. Results reveal that RNN1 achieves the best results: accuracy of 98.61%, precision of 98.55%, recall of 98.61%, and F1-score of 98.57% compared with other DNN and CNN architectures and benchmark papers. This study advances intrusion detection within IoT networks through a comprehensive evaluation of deep learning models and inspires ongoing research to enhance intrusion detection systems' resilience in dynamic IoT environments. Although the market demand for smart devices (SDs) in the Internet of Things (IoT) era is surging, the corresponding thunderstorm protection measures have rarely attracted attention. This paper presents a thunderstorm prediction method with elevation correction, to reduce the thunderstorm damage to SDs by visually tracking thunderstorm activities. First, a self‐made three‐dimensional atmospheric electric field apparatus (3DAEFA) deployed in IoT is developed to collect real‐time AEF data. A 3DAEFA‐based localization model is established, and the localization formula after correction is derived. AEF data predicted by the bi‐directional long short‐term memory (BiLSTM) model are input to this formula to obtain thunderstorm point charge localization results. Then, the localization skill is evaluated. Finally, the proposed method is assessed in experiments, under single and multiple point charge conditions. There are significant reductions of at least 33.1% and 8.8% in ranging and elevation angle errors, respectively. Particularly, this post‐prediction correction reduces the deviation of fitted point charge moving paths by at most 0.189 km, demonstrating excellent application effects. With rapid development and deployment of artificial intelligence methods, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has highly developed to fast tracing industrial communications and optimizing manufacturing processes. In Industry 5.0, hyper-automation process as one of technological trends navigates industrial entities to intelligent devices of the IIoT, cloud computing, smart robotics, smart agile software and embedded components by high complexity and reliability. By increasing data communication in the IIoT environments and cloud computing, the security and safety of hyper-automation process is also increasingly unstable and challengeable with respect to cyber-attacks, unstructured malwares and abnormal activities. With the diversification and unexpected behaviors of cyber-security threats, traditional cyber-attack detection systems have some critical problems with increasing massive data including unappropriated feature selection and extraction, high computation time in prediction and inaccurate classification models. Due to the above-mentioned challenges, this paper presents a new cloud-based cyber-attack detection architecture based on Ensemble Bagged Trees Detection (EBTD) algorithm for predicting malicious behaviors and types of cyber-attacks for hyper-automation process in the IIoT. The proposed architecture uses Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and a priority-based feature selection and extraction model to find the optimal features with highly dependent on the network traffic, computation time, malicious behaviors, and types of attacks. Then, experimental results are conducted using the technical data sets UNSW-NB15 and NSL-KDD. The simulation results show that the proposed architecture performance performs better than other case studies and prediction models and effective on optimization of large-scale cyber-attack detection systems for critical hyper-automation process in the IIoT environment. With the rapid convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and command and control communication networks, there is a swift surge in computation-intensive applications and heterogenous devices. Building an edge computing network near the protocol gateway not only facilitates network protocol conversion, but also alleviates computational load on the gateway. Nevertheless, traditional protocol gateways necessitate the inclusion of conversion methods for all communication protocols in the network for data interoperability with other devices. Consequently, constructing low-complexity protocol conversion programs, and the more efficient and equitable allocation of edge server resources, are critical challenges that need to be addressed. This paper investigates the joint problem of task offloading and heterogeneous protocol device access in command and control communication networks, deriving the benefit parameters of task offloading. We propose a real-time data unified access platform, which, by distributing configuration files, enables the IoT gateway to generate protocol conversion programs, thereby transforming all device protocols into a unified common protocol. Furthermore, to enhance the efficiency of heterogeneous device access to the network, we design a data parsing/encapsulation algorithm based on the real-time data unified access platform, supporting bidirectional mapping of two types of data. With the proliferation of the Internet of Things and smart devices, there exists an urge to address the critical computation demands of end users for several real-time applications. Fog computing (FC) targets to address the computation requirements nearer to the end user in almost real-time. Mainly, the fog environments (FE) exhibit characteristics of resource constraint and wide heterogeneity. In addition, the complex fog environment enforces the fog resources (FR) deployment either within fixed or distributed over random geographical locations. In the literature, there exist several solutions for the optimization of FR allocation. However, the location-dependent FR allocation has not been addressed thoroughly. Hence, this paper proposes a novel hybrid clustering-based deep Q-network for location-based optimal resource allocation (HCDQN-ORA) model. Here, the first objective is to minimize the search operation for identifying suitable FR and to meet the quality of service (QoS) demand using an enhanced fog resource clustering (E-FRC) algorithm. The second objective aims to achieve optimal FR allocation among the set of location-dependent FRs using reinforcement learning techniques. Problem formulation has been modelled using Markov decision process. A deep Q-network algorithm with two variants, namely enhanced optimal resource allocation using deep Q-network (EORA-DQN) and enhanced optimal resource allocation using deep Q-network with experience replay (EORA-DQN-ER), has been incorporated. To analyse the statically located and randomly distributed FR environment, the experimental results exhibit that, in the case of clustering of FRs, E-FRC is more efficient than conventional clustering algorithms. Next, the location-dependent optimal FR allocation problem incorporates the performance analysis based on the convergence of loss function and the parametric analysis based on batch size, respectively. Results exhibit that EORA-DQN performs better only for statically allotted resources. With the rapid popularization of smart devices, the applications and technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) are in high demand worldwide, especially in improving development efficiency and ensuring system quality, reliability, and security. Formal methods have been successfully used to specify, verify, and analyze software and hardware systems, effectively alleviating the above problems in these systems. However, most of the existing works mainly focus on the practical applications of IoT, and there is a lack of research on modeling and analyzing IoT systems from the perspective of formal methods. In this paper, we first propose a secure mobile real‐time process calculus for specifying and reasoning about IoT systems, called SMrCaIT, which supports not only value‐passing communication but also name‐passing communication. In addition, this calculus can strictly separate process actions and mobility modeling by providing parametric mobility models. Subsequently, we present the operational semantics of this calculus, in particular, the rules on how to secure channel communication by closing the scope of a channel and handling scope extrusion. Taking vehicle ad hoc network (VANET) as a case, the application details of SMrCaIT and its operational semantics are fully demonstrated. By using the rewrite engine Real‐Time Maude, we further implement SMrCaIT and its operational semantics and verify some properties of the VANET case to indicate the effectiveness of our calculus in real‐world scenes. SCADA systems are used in industries to perform control and monitoring of industrial processes in real-time. The advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), and the Industrial IoT (IIoT) in particular, has brought new disruptive technology that has the potential to drive the industrial digitization agenda well beyond the capabilities demonstrated by conventional SCADA systems. Industries, particularly manufacturing industries and utilities keep thriving to be competitive and the adoption of new technologies in the form of IIoT is set to improve efficiency and productivity through enhanced real-time data analytics and production availability. This paper examines the opportunities and challenges presented by integrating IIoT into existing SCADA systems. Purpose: Agriculture is one sector where the Internet of things (IoT) is expected to make a major impact. Yet, its adoption in the sector falls behind expectations. The purpose of this paper is to present the state-of-the-art of IoT in agriculture and investigate its slow adoption in the sector. Design/methodology/approach: The authors have undertaken a systematic review and a synthesis of 1355 relevant publications over the last decade. Findings: This literature review reveals that the "big three" barriers for the overall sector are cost, skills and standardization. The lack of connectivity and data governance are two key reasons why most of the proposed IoT solutions are standalone systems of limited scope, while the majority of commercial IoT efforts focus on practices in the protected indoor environment. Lastly, the analysis of past research along the five layers of the IoT system architecture reveals limited attention to barriers and solutions at the business layer, which represents a research opportunity for information systems scholars. Research limitations/implications: It is possible that some of relevant publications were missed in the literature search, although the search queries were kept as broad as possible to avoid the exclusion of any relevant work. Any publication written in any other language other than English was excluded from the review. Given the geographical distribution of the reviewed English publications (see section 4.1), it is highly likely that important works written by Chinese and European scholars in their native language were overlooked. Practical implications: This study provides practical insights into the technical and organisational challenges on the ground. It is the hope that this literature review lays the groundwork for IS researchers who are well positioned to investigate technology adoption challenges in the relatively understudied agriculture sector. The Internet of Things (IoT) will bring about the next industrial revolution in Industry 4.0. The communication aspect of IoT devices is one of the most critical factors in choosing the device that is suitable for use. Thus far, the IoT physical layer communication challenges have been met with various communications protocols that provide varying strengths and weaknesses. This paper summarizes the network architectures of some of the most popular IoT wireless communications protocols. It also presents a comparative analysis of some of the critical features, including power consumption, coverage, data rate, security, cost, and quality of service (QoS). This comparative study shows that low-power wide area network (LPWAN)-based IoT protocols (LoRa, Sigfox, NB-IoT, LTE-M) are more suitable for future industrial applications because of their energy efficiency, high coverage, and cost efficiency. In addition, the study also presents an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) application perspective on the suitability of LPWAN protocols in a particular scenario and addresses some open issues that need to be researched. Federated learning is a distributed machine learning approach that enables a large number of edge/end devices to perform on-device training for a single machine learning model, without having to share their own raw data. We consider in this paper a federated learning scenario wherein the local training is carried out on IoT devices and the global aggregation is done at the level of an edge server. One essential challenge in this emerging approach is IoT devices selection (also called scheduling), i.e., how to select the IoT devices to participate in the distributed training process. The existing approaches suggest to base the scheduling decision on the resource characteristics of the devices to guarantee that the selected devices would have enough resources to carry out the training. In this work, we argue that trust should be an integral part of the decision-making process and therefore design a trust establishment mechanism between the edge server and IoT devices. The trust mechanism aims to detect those IoT devices that over-utilize or under-utilize their resources during the local training. Thereafter, we introduce DDQN-Trust, a double deep Q learning-based selection algorithm that takes into account the trust scores and energy levels of the IoT devices to make appropriate scheduling decisions. Finally, we integrate our solution into four federated learning aggregation approaches, namely, FedAvg, FedProx, FedShare and FedSGD. Experiments conducted using a real-world dataset show that our DDQN-Trust solution always achieves better performance compared to two main benchmarks: the DQN and random scheduling algorithms. IoT networks can provide many benefits and opportunities, although their implementation poses challenges. Cloud-only storage of IoT data would be very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, a new scheme is proposed for caching IoT content on the edge with SDN-based processing capability. The proposed scheme considers a global SDN controller, which coordinates cache decisions across the entire IoT network. The Moth-Flame Optimization-Cluster Head Selection (MFO-CHS) algorithm is used to cluster devices where the selected cluster heads send the IoT data to the edge nodes for caching. In addition, by utilizing edge caching capabilities and using MFO to select and cache the appropriate contents on edge nodes, the proposed Moth-Flame Optimization-Edge Caching (MFO-EC) algorithm can provide data with lower latency on upcoming requests. Caching can also help ensure reliability and availability since intermittent connections and power limitations affect IoT devices. Caching decisions regarding IoT characteristics are not made intelligently in the default caching scheme for maximizing device longevity and managing the possibility that content producers may become unreachable. This scheme considers several metrics, and the proposed moth-flame optimization (MFO) algorithms, MFO-CHS, and MFO-EC algorithms, which are nature-inspired paradigms for the edge caching problem called "MFO-SDN-EC", Moth-Flame Optimization-Software-defined Networking -Edge Caching, are used to select the best options regarding considered criteria and improve the QoS in the SDN based IoT environment. Based on simulations, our proposed caching method can reduce energy consumption by 45%, decrease the average response time by 49%, and also increase cache-hit rates. Trust can be considered as a multidisciplinary concept, which is strongly related to the context and it falls in different fields such as Philosophy, Psychology or Computer Science. Trust is fundamental in every relationship, because without it, an entity will not interact with other entities. This aspect is very important especially in the Internet of Things (IoT), where many entities produced by different vendors and created for different purposes have to interact among them through the internet often under uncertainty. Trust can overcome this uncertainty, creating a strong basis to ease the process of interaction among these entities. We believe that considering trust in the IoT is fundamental, and in order to implement it in any IoT entity, it is fundamental to consider it through the whole System Development Life Cycle. In this paper, we propose an analysis of different works that consider trust for the IoT. We will focus especially on the analysis of frameworks that have been developed in order to include trust in the IoT. We will make a classification of them providing a set of parameters that we believe are fundamental in order to properly consider trust in the IoT. Thus, we will identify important aspects to be taken into consideration when developing frameworks that implement trust in the IoT, finding gaps and proposing possible solutions. Summary: The cloud computing systems, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), are usually introduced with a three‐layer architecture (IoT‐Fog‐Cloud) for the task offloading that is a solution to compensate for resource constraints in these systems. Offloading at the right location is the most significant challenge in this field. It is more appropriate to offload tasks to fog than to cloud based on power and performance metrics, but its resources are more limited than the resources of the cloud. This paper tries to optimize these factors in the fog by specifying the number of usable servers in the fog. For this purpose, we model a fog computing system using the queueing theory. Furthermore, binary search and reinforcement learning algorithms are proposed to determine the minimum number of servers with the lowest power consumption. We evaluate the cost of the fog in different scenarios. By solving the model, we find that the proposed dispatching policy is very flexible and outperformed the known policies by up to 31% and in no case is it worse than either of them, and the overall offloading cost increases when fog rejects tasks with a high probability. Our offloading method is more effective than running all fog servers simultaneously, based on simulation results. The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is an Intelligent Transportation System, which in its turn is an application of the Internet of Things. The IoV is a network of connected vehicles that sends/receives messages. However, the moving nature of the vehicles in IoV networks raises a dynamic topology issue. Therefore, establishing effective and dependable communication pathways among vehicular nodes, contingent upon traffic density conditions, presents a growing challenge. As a result, the main contribution of this paper is to propose an efficient network optimization system involving a cluster-based network routing optimizer. The proposed method is a metaheuristic algorithm adapted as a clustering algorithm. For this purpose, the JAYA Algorithm (JAYA) was utilized and integrated with two clustering concepts extracted from K-means Clustering and Automatic Clustering, resulting in proposing JAYA Clustering Algorithm for IoV (JAYACIoV). Subsequently, the performance of the proposed algorithm was investigated utilizing 176 network testing scenarios, and extensive comparative evaluations were conducted against five algorithms from the literature. The results confirmed the superiority of the proposed system with a percentage of 64.82%, where the algorithms were ranked according to the percentage achievement of best results. Modern "Supply Chains (SCs)" have recently been introduced as value networks of high complexity, and firms have focused on its efficiency as an important support for staying competitive in the market. Firms are currently capable of observing, tracking, and monitoring their products, activities, and processes throughout their value chain networks using new technologies, namely the "Internet of Things (IoT)". Though, the influencing factors of IoT are highly complex and diverse, which result in the information-intensiveness of the SCs processes. This, in turn, leads to lots of barriers to SCs. In this paper, we evaluate and rank the IoT risks for "Supply Chain Management (SCM)" by utilizing "Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA)" and "Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS)" under "q-Rung Orthopair Fuzzy Sets (q-ROFSs)". A case study is presented for investigating the IoT risks for SCM in the q-ROFSs setting. Moreover, the obtained results were compared to those of some methods currently used in the literature. The outcomes of the study show that the security and privacy risks with a weight value of 0.0572 is the main IoT risk factor for the SCM and the organization-I with the utility degree 0.8208 is the best option with diverse IoT risks for SCM. This study conducts an in-depth review of the Social Internet of Things (SIoT), a significant advancement from the conventional Internet of Things (IoT) via the integration of socialization principles akin to human interactions. We explore the architecture, trust management, relationship dynamics, and other crucial aspects of SIoT, with a particular focus on the relatively neglected areas of fault tolerance, cloud–fog computing, and clustering. Our systematic literature analysis, spanning research from 2011 to April 2023, uncovers critical gaps and establishes a detailed taxonomy of emerging SIoT themes. It is well known that buildings have a sizeable energy and environmental footprint. In particular, in environments like university campuses, the occupants as well as occupancy in shared spaces varies over time. Systems for cooling in such environments that are centrally controlled are typically threshold driven and do not account for occupant feedback and thus are often relying on a reactive approach (fix after identifying problems). Therefore, having a fixed thermal operating set point may not be optimal in such cases—both from an occupant comfort and well-being as well as an energy efficiency perspective. To address this issue, a study was conducted which involved development and deployment of an experimental Internet of Things (IoT) prototype system and an Android application that facilitated people engagement on a university campus located in the UAE which typically exhibits hot climatic conditions. This paper showcases data driven insights obtained from this study, and in particular, how to achieve a balance between the conflicting goals of improving occupant comfort and energy efficiency. Findings from this study underscore the need for regular reassessments and adaptation. The proposed solution is low cost and easy to deploy and has the potential to reap significant savings through a reduction in energy consumption with estimates indicating around 50–100 kWh/day of savings per building and the resulting environmental impact. These findings would appeal to stakeholders who are keen to improve energy efficiency and reduce their operating expenses and environmental footprint in such climatic conditions. The Internet of Things (IoT) provides a collaborative infrastructure to communicate smart devices with cloud-edge healthcare applications, medical devices, wearable biosensors, etc. On the other hand, crowd counting as one of computer vision approaches is an emerging topic to detect any objects with static or dynamic mobility in the IoT environments. Smart crowd counting enables pattern recognition for many intelligent applications such as microbiology, surveillance, healthcare systems, crowdedness estimation, and other environmental case studies. According to complicated capturing systems in the IoT environments, crowd counting methods can influence on performance of object detection in the critical case studies using Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based approaches such as machine learning, deep learning, collaborative learning, fuzzy logic and meta-heuristic algorithms. This paper provides a new comprehensive technical analysis for existing AI-based crowd counting approaches in healthcare and medical systems, biotechnology and IoT environments. Meanwhile, it presents a discussion on the existing case studies with respect to analyzing technical aspects and applied algorithms to enhance pattern prediction factors. With the increasing user density of wireless networks, various user partitioning techniques or algorithms segregate users into smaller, more manageable clusters. The benefit of user clustering techniques in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is to optimize resource allocation and improve network performance, spectral efficiency, and user fairness in next-generation wireless networks, particularly in scenarios with a high density of users and diverse channel conditions. With increasing users, the network creates clusters before implementing non-orthogonal multiple access within these clusters. In this paper, we have organized and classified various user clustering techniques deployed from the perspective of NOMA-based communication in the current era. Furthermore, researchers have highlighted some works deploying joint resource allocation and clustering optimization based on various criteria to enhance the overall sum rate of the network. We also identify low-complexity user clustering techniques for multiple applications, e.g. the Internet of Things, unmanned aerial vehicles, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces in the 5G and beyond communication networks. The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly growing, with an estimated 14.4 billion active endpoints in 2022 and a forecast of approximately 30 billion connected devices by 2027. This proliferation of IoT devices has come with significant security challenges, including intrinsic security vulnerabilities, limited computing power, and the absence of timely security updates. Attacks leveraging such shortcomings could lead to severe consequences, including data breaches and potential disruptions to critical infrastructures. In response to these challenges, this research paper presents the IoT Proxy, a modular component designed to create a more resilient and secure IoT environment, especially in resource-limited scenarios. The core idea behind the IoT Proxy is to externalize security-related aspects of IoT devices by channeling their traffic through a secure network gateway equipped with different Virtual Network Security Functions (VNSFs). Our solution includes a Virtual Private Network (VPN) terminator and an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that uses a machine learning-based technique called oblivious authentication to identify connected devices. The IoT Proxy's modular, scalable, and externalized security approach creates a more resilient and secure IoT environment, especially for resource-limited IoT devices. Wireless sensor network (WSN) underpinning the smart-grid Internet of Things (SG-IoT) has been a popular research topic in recent years due to its great potential for enabling a wide range of important applications. However, the energy consumption (EC) characteristic of sensor nodes is a key factor that affects the operational performance (e.g., lifetime of sensors) and the total cost of ownership of WSNs. In this paper, to find the modulation techniques suitable for WSNs, we investigate the EC characteristic of continuous phase modulation (CPM), which is an attractive modulation scheme candidate for WSNs because of its constant envelope property. We first develop an EC model for the sensor nodes of WSNs by considering the circuits and a typical communication protocol that relies on automatic repeat request (ARQ)-based retransmissions to ensure successful data delivery. Then, we use this model to analyze the EC characteristic of CPM under various configurations of modulation parameters. Furthermore, we compare the EC characteristic of CPM with that of other representative modulation schemes, such as offset quadrature phase-shift keying (OQPSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), which are commonly used in communication protocols of WSNs. Our analysis and simulation results provide insights into the EC characteristics of multiple modulation schemes in the context of WSNs; thus, they are beneficial for designing energy-efficient SG-IoT in the beyond-5G (B5G) and the 6G era. In recent days, cryptographic algorithm hardware is the need of IoT devices. However, limited resources demand an efficient approach towards designing the said cryptographic algorithm hardware. This paper introduces the PUF (Physical Unclonable Function) based approach to design the key generator used in cryptographic algorithm hardware to minimize the area and power consumption. A customizable key generation unit has been introduced in the form of a Standard Synchronization Unit (SSU) to match the desired key size requirements. The results were generated with PUF based designs from literature and compared with the proposed PDL (Programmable Delay Logic) PUF. All parameters considered, a proposed PDL PUF key generator is an efficient option that can be integrated with an Advanced Encryption System (AES) as the key generator. The modified AES design result was compared with the literature's results on the Xilinx Virtex XC7VX690T platform. The Internet of Things (IoT) implies a new model and concept in the world of information and communication technology that the non-cooperation of some nodes in providing services to other nodes may result in the disconnection of some things with each other. Consequently, the proximity of such nodes is considerably reduced the network performance. In this paper, a multiphase method based on game theory and direct and indirect reputation has been designed to stimulate selfish and malicious nodes to cooperate in the Internet of Things, which starts with setting up nodes in the IoT network. In the first phase, nodes are grouped in clusters with cluster heads to collect data. Then, they play a dynamic and multi-person game when they promote their own data packet or others' data packet in the second phase (multi-person game phase and data packet sending). The result of the game is applied to affect between nodes in the next phase. Nodes can pick their strategy when data packet forwarding in the third phase (direct and indirect reputation update). Nodes will update the neighboring node and the reputation table if they receive a confirmation message from the destination declaring that the data packet has a direct reputation. Internet of Things (IoT), a distributed healthcare system has integrated different medical resources with sensors and actuators. In this research paper proposes a secure healthcare monitoring system for IoT based distributed healthcare systems in the cloud using blockchain and deep learning (DL) mechanisms. The proposed system involved three phases: secure data transmission, data storage, and disease classification system. Initially, the patients are authenticated via blockchain mechanism and their data is encrypted via Effective Key-based Rivest Shamir Adelman (EKRSA), in which the keys are generated using Circle chaotic map and Linear inertia weight-based Honey Badger Optimization (CLHBO) algorithm. Next, in the data storage phase, these encrypted IoT data are securely stored in the cloud using blockchain technology in a distributed manner. Finally, in the disease classification, the data are gathered from the publicly available dataset, and these collected datasets are preprocessed to handle missing values and data normalization. After that, the proposed system applies a radial basis kernel-based linear discriminant analysis (RBKLDA) model to reduce the dimensionality of the dataset. At last, the disease classification is done by optimal parameter-centered bidirectional long short-term memory (OPCBLSTM). The proposed EKRSA system archives maximum throughput of 99.05% and reliability of 99.66, which is superior to the existing approaches. The OPCBLSTM is investigated for its disease classification process, the proposed one achieves 99.64% accuracy with less processing time of 6 ms, which is superior to the existing classifiers. The paper presents a prototype setup for detecting and tracking transmission line faults using Internet of Things (IoT) technology. This system automatically detects, analyzes and classifies the transmission line faults, while also tracking the location of fault. The setup uses a combination of ESP32, display, potential transformers, current transformers and GSM module to sense, process and transmit data. The instrument transformers accurately sense data and send to ESP32. Comparing with reference value, it analyzes fault and sends information via GSM module to a designated number and server. The emergence of IoT has introduced new security concerns, particularly the detection of large-scale network attacks initiated by compromised IoT devices. The diverse nature of IoT devices adds complexity to attack detection, necessitating the classification of devices based on their unique characteristics and behavior patterns. This paper presents a novel device classification method grounded in traffic differentials before and after IoT devices succumb to compromise. The study defines the concept of attack sensitivity and designs a method for calculating the value. The K-means algorithm is used to classify devices into predefined categories based on their attack sensitivity values. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated through experiments on a public dataset. Additionally, a multi-class classification model is developed to identify newly added devices to the IoT environment, with good results in accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score, and FPR (0.999, 0.997–1,0.997–1,0.998–1,0–0.001). Overall, The device classification method proposed in this paper, based on attack sensitivity, not only enables a rational definition of device categories but also ensures precise classification for devices newly integrated into the IoT environment. Poor management of waste electronic and electrical equipment (e-waste) has resulted in serious challenges to the environment and, consequently, to living organisms. Increasing consumer willingness to return household e-waste is a practical solution for better e-waste management. In this paper, for the first time, a circular supply chain network is structured by applying internet of things (IoT) technology to increase consumer willingness to return household e-waste and to manage the network more effectively. For this purpose, we formulate a mixed-integer linear programming model whose objective is to minimize strategic costs (setup costs and IoT deployment costs) and operational costs (transportation costs, costs associated with IoT, and processing costs in centers), simultaneously. In addition, we developed a heuristic algorithm based on Lagrangian relaxation to solve the proposed MILP model. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by comparing its results with GAMS results using eight small-sized simulated problems. Furthermore, eight large-size problems are simulated and solved by the proposed algorithm. Finally, the data of an Iranian knowledge-based company is employed to validate the presented mathematical model and algorithm, and the sensitivity analysis process is used to examine the accuracy of the obtained results. This paper presents a relaxation oscillator (RxO) utilizing subthreshold transistor leakage current compensation (SLC) technology to expand the operating range from 70 °C to 85 °C at high temperatures. The compensated RxO outperforms the uncompensated counterpart by 25 times for temperature coefficient (TC). Additionally, forward body bias (FBB) technology optimizes the digital buffer delay with temperature drift at low supply voltage, extending the oscillator's low-temperature range from −20 °C to −40 °C. Fabricated in a 65 nm CMOS process, the oscillator consumes a mere 8.1 nW at a 0.4 V supply voltage. At room temperature, it operates at 4.22 kHz with an energy efficiency of 1.92 nW/kHz. The oscillator demonstrates a temperature coefficient (TC) of 114.01 ppm/°C within the range of −40 °C to 85 °C, rendering it a prospective choice for low-power Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This paper introduces a discrete-time delta-sigma ADC for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications. It utilizes second-order 4-bit successive approximation register (SAR) quantizer architecture based on the oversampling technique to ensure a sufficiently high SQNR. Additionally, dynamic weighted averaging (DWA) technique is employed to achieve good feedback CDAC linearity. System-level analysis and circuit implementation analysis are introduced in detail. The implemented prototype of this architecture is manufactured using a 180 nm CMOS process. The proposed ADC, operating at a supply voltage of 1.8 V and a sampling frequency of 2.5 MHz, including biasing circuitry, consumes a total power of 1.3 mW. This ADC achieves a DR of 102.6 dB, SNR of 101.5 dB, and SNDR of 98.6 dB within a 10 kHz bandwidth. The Internet of Things (IoT) devices produce a humongous amount of data frequently stored on cloud servers, and as a result, cryptographic techniques to guarantee the privacy of outsourced data while preserving search ability on servers are becoming indispensable research topics. A prominent example of such topics is the concept of public key authenticated encryption with keyword search (PAEKS). In spite of the large number of PAEKS schemes in the literature, most existing schemes exhibit issues in certificate management, key escrow, or even key distribution. To address these issues, recently, PAEKS schemes in the certificate-based setting have gained attention. To the best of our knowledge, there exist only two Certificate-Based Authenticated Encryption with Keyword Search (CBAEKS) schemes, both presented with rather weak security models based on single keyword challenges. In this paper, we propose an enhanced security model for CBAEKS which captures notions of multi-ciphertext and multi-trapdoor indistinguishability, then proceed to devise a concrete instantiation for a CBAEKS scheme and formally prove its security under our enhanced model. Furthermore, we prove that the existing CBAEKS schemes are insecure under the enhanced security model.
