This paper addresses issues concerning biometric authentication based on handwritten signatures. Our research aimed to check whether a handwritten signature acquired with a mobile device can effectively verify a user's identity. We present a novel online signature verification method using coordinates of points and pressure values at each point collected with a mobile device. Convolutional neural networks are used for signature verification. In this paper, three neural network models are investigated, i.e., two self-made light SigNet and SigNetExt models and the VGG-16 model commonly used in image processing. The convolutional neural networks aim to determine whether the acquired signature sample matches the class declared by the signer. Thus, the scenario of closed set verification is performed. The effectiveness of our method was tested on signatures acquired with mobile phones. We used the subset of the multimodal database, MobiBits, that was captured using a custom-made application and consists of samples acquired from 53 people of diverse ages. The experimental results on accurate data demonstrate that developed architectures of deep neural networks can be successfully used for online handwritten signature verification. Deep learning, a crucial technique for achieving artificial intelligence (AI), has been successfully applied in many fields. The gradual application of the latest architectures of deep learning in the field of time series forecasting (TSF), such as Transformers, has shown excellent performance and results compared to traditional statistical methods. These applications are widely present in academia and in our daily lives, covering many areas including forecasting electricity consumption in power systems, meteorological rainfall, traffic flow, quantitative trading, risk control in finance, sales operations and price predictions for commercial companies, and pandemic prediction in the medical field. Deep learning-based TSF tasks stand out as one of the most valuable AI scenarios for research, playing an important role in explaining complex real-world phenomena. However, deep learning models still face challenges: they need to deal with the challenge of large-scale data in the information age, achieve longer forecasting ranges, reduce excessively high computational complexity, etc. Therefore, novel methods and more effective solutions are essential. In this paper, we review the latest developments in deep learning for TSF. We begin by introducing the recent development trends in the field of TSF and then propose a new taxonomy from the perspective of deep neural network models, comprehensively covering articles published over the past five years. We also organize commonly used experimental evaluation metrics and datasets. Finally, we point out current issues with the existing solutions and suggest promising future directions in the field of deep learning combined with TSF. Leveraging advanced artificial intelligence techniques, we prioritize infectious waste categorization and optimization, integrating metaheuristics into optimization methods to create a robust dual-ensemble framework. Our model, the "Enhanced Artificial Intelligence for Infectious Municipal Waste Classification System," combines ensemble image segmentation methods and diverse convolutional neural network models. Innovative geometric image augmentation enhances model robustness, diversifies training data, and improves accuracy across waste types. A pivotal aspect is the integration of a reinforcement learning-differential evolution algorithm as a decision fusion strategy, optimizing classification by harmonizing outputs from ensemble methods and convolutional neural network models. Computational results, using a newly collected dataset, demonstrate our model's accuracy exceeding 96.54% while using the existing solid waste dataset we achieve the accuracy of 97.81%, outperforming advanced approaches by margins ranging from 2.02% to 8.80%. This research significantly advances sustainable waste management, showcasing artificial intelligence's transformative potential in addressing intricate waste challenges. It establishes a foundational framework prioritizing efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability for future waste management solutions. The health management of railway signal equipment in the high-speed railway is a key link between intelligent operation and maintenance. Accurately predicting the health state of compensation capacitors is of great significance to ensure the reliable work of track circuits. This paper proposes an improved deep neural network algorithm focusing on the problem of long-term accurate health forecasts for compensation capacitors. First, establishing a transmission state model for degradation mechanism mining, the difference function that can quantitatively evaluate features is defined by piecewise processing cab signaling receiving voltage. Introducing the degradation model, predictive driving under both model and data is implemented. Then, the convolutional neural networks and bidirectional long–short-term memory are combined and improved to construct a novel artificial intelligence combination strategy, while parameters are optimized based on the sparrow search algorithm. Finally, facing the conditional repair of compensation capacitors, we set a reasonable threshold for the occurrence of hidden dangers to complete fault warning. This novel and practical approach effectively explores the procedure of prognosis and health management, while the refined maintenance will better utilize current monitoring information, helping the intelligence and accuracy of safety control decision-making. The recognition of steel microstructure images plays a crucial role in the metallographic analysis process. Although some progress has been made through the application of artificial intelligence algorithms, several challenges remain. First, existing algorithms exhibit weak nonlinear feature extraction capabilities and noticeable limitations. Second, they overlook the intrinsic noise and redundant interference present in microscopic images. To address these issues, this paper investigates the automatic recognition of metallographic tissues by leveraging residual structures in deep neural networks. An enhanced residual network model based on transfer learning is proposed, which utilizes the pre-trained weights from the ImageNet dataset to facilitate learning with small sample data. This network offers higher classification accuracy and higher F1 scores. In addition, a deep residual shrinkage network model based on an attention mechanism is proposed. This model incorporates an attention sub-network into the original residual module and employs a soft threshold function to eliminate redundant features, including noise. The proposed algorithms are evaluated against various convolutional neural networks using 20 types of metallographic test sets. The experimental results showed that both methods have high accuracy rates of 95% and 94.44%, respectively, and F1 scores of 0.9464 and 0.9419. While maintaining the complexity of the model, there has been a significant improvement in accuracy, and the models exhibit strong generalization capabilities. Date fruit (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is known for its diversity in terms of genotypes that differ in shape, color, texture, taste, and other physical and sensory attributes, in addition to biochemical compounds. This richness generates complex, long, and tedious work at the scale of farm as well as in handling, processing, and storage facilities to prepare standardized, and homogenous final products that deal with consumer preferences and needs. To alleviate this, an increased importance and particular trend were observed recently for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and computer vision technology since they are considered as accurate, objective, non-destructive, fast, and efficient emerging technologies. In this context, this manuscript provides comprehensive insights into key applications of AI techniques and computer vision technology, using different classification models and algorithms developed on the basis (for example) of neural network classifiers, such as convolutional and artificial neural network, on harvest and postharvest assessment of date fruit. Thus, the importance of date fruit dataset used in the AI domain was discussed with link to all accessible datasets in the field of date palm. In addition, available and relevant AI tools and approaches applied to the postharvest of date fruit from maturity distinguishing until storage through other key handling operations, sorting, grading, etc., were detailed in the five sections of this paper.
