Recent increases in global food demand have made this research and, therefore, the prediction of agricultural commodity prices, almost imperative. The aim of this paper is to build efficient artificial intelligence methods to effectively forecast commodity prices in light of these global events. Using three separate, well-structured models, the commodity prices of eleven major agricultural commodities that have recently caused crises around the world have been predicted. In achieving its objective, this paper proposes a novel forecasting model for agricultural commodity prices using the extreme learning machine technique optimized with the genetic algorithm. In predicting the eleven commodities, the proposed model, the extreme learning machine with the genetic algorithm, outperforms the model formed by the combination of long short-term memory with the genetic algorithm and the autoregressive integrated moving average model. Despite the fluctuations and changes in agricultural commodity prices in 2022, the extreme learning machine with the genetic algorithm model described in this study successfully predicts both qualitative and quantitative behavior in such a large number of commodities and over such a long period of time for the first time. It is expected that these predictions will provide benefits for the effective management, direction and, if necessary, restructuring of agricultural policies by providing food requirements that adapt to the dynamic structure of the countries. As semiconductor performance improves through advanced package designs, it becomes important to consider both thermal and mechanical properties. Better understanding their relationship enhances system design and optimization. This study has introduced a numerical method that takes into account both thermal and mechanical fluxes to construct thermal and mechanical property maps for practical application in semiconductor engineering. Furthermore, this paper investigated the relationship between the two properties using the constructed property maps in commercially available semiconductor packages. Owing to the complexity of packaging design patterns, a coupled isoparametric mapping and machine learning (ML) method was introduced to investigate their effects. The model then determines and investigates the anisotropic equivalent thermal and mechanical properties of the commercialized semiconductor packages with complex pattern designs, according to the package materials, volume fractions of each material, and design patterns. This approach pursues more sophistication and practicality compared to simplified composite structure property evaluation models. Additionally, all processes in the algorithm are automated based on ML methods, making them practically applicable in the semiconductor industry. The study shows that there is a strong correlation between the thermal and mechanical characteristics in the complex package patterns. This relationship was able to form a fairly clear category based on the shape of the dielectric band because the dielectric band had significantly different effects on the thermal and mechanical fluxes. The study discussed the physical implications of the similarities and differences between the two behaviors and validated the results of the equivalent properties through finite element (FE) analysis. Finally, the study cross-validates the relationship by showing that information from one flux behavior can be used to predict the other based on the ML method. Artificial Intelligence is quickly emerging as a technological solution for the agriculture industry to surmount its classical challenges. Artificial Intelligence is facilitating farmers to refine their products and alleviate unfavourable impacts due to the environment. The central concern of this paper is predictive analytics to develop a machine learning model to identify and predict crop yield based on multiple environmental factors. In this paper, a hybrid learner 'RaNN' is proposed that combines the feature sampling and majority voting technique of Random Forest in-combination with the multilayer Feedforward Neural Network to predict the crop yield. Research has also ascertained the essential features responsible for accurate yield prediction. The proposed model works for rice yield prediction, one of the chief grains of India. The region chosen for the work is Punjab, which is among the largest producer states of India for rice. The dataset consists of 15 attributes comprising the weather and agriculture data collected from the Indian Meteorological Department Pune, and Punjab Environment Information System (ENVIS) Center, Government of India. The study has also made a comparative assessment of 'RaNN' with machine learning methods like Multiple Linear Regression, Random Forest, Decision Tree, Boosting Regression, Support Vector Machine Regression, Ensemble Learner, and Artificial Neural Network. Our model RaNN has listed a better prediction accuracy with minimal error among the other techniques providing a 98% correlation between the actual and the predicted yield. Super-computing or HPC clusters are built to provide services to execute computationally complex applications. Generally, these HPC applications involve large scale IO (input/output) processing over the networked parallel file system disks. They are commonly developed on top of the C/C++ based MPI standard library. The HPC clusters MPI–IO performance significantly depends on the particular parameter value configurations, not generally considered when writing the algorithms or programs. Therefore, this leads to poor IO and overall program performance degradation. The IO is mostly left to individual practitioners to be optimised at code level. This usually leads to unexpected consequences due to IO bandwidth degradation which becomes inevitable as the file data scales in size to petabytes. To overcome the poor IO performance, this research paper presents an approach for auto-tuning of the configuration parameters by forecasting the MPI–IO bandwidth via artificial neural networks (ANNs), a machine learning (ML) technique. These parameters are related to MPI–IO library and lustre (parallel) file system. In addition to this, we have identified a number of common configurations out of numerous possibilities, selected in the auto-tuning process of READ/WRITE operations. These configurations caused an overall READ bandwidth improvement of 65.7% with almost 83% test cases improved. In addition, the overall WRITE bandwidth improved by 83% with number of test cases improved by almost 93%. As the world's transport infrastructure ages, the importance of bridge condition monitoring is becoming increasingly acknowledged. Large-scale deployment of existing inspection and monitoring techniques is infeasible due to cost and logistical challenges. The concept of using sensors located within vehicles for low cost 'drive-by' monitoring has become the focus of much attention in recent years. This paper presents a new data-driven approach for drive-by bridge monitoring. Machine learning techniques are leveraged to allow the influence of vehicle speed to be considered and the Operating Deflection Shape Ratio (ODSR) is presented as an alternative damage-sensitive feature to the commonly used frequency spectrum. Extensive laboratory experiments demonstrate that the method is capable of detecting midspan cracking and seized bearings. A statistical classification approach is adopted to classify damage indicators as either 'damaged' or 'healthy'. Classification accuracy is seen to vary between 65-96% and is similar whether using the frequency spectrum or ODSR. Based on the results of the laboratory testing, it is expected that this approach could be implemented on a large scale to act as an early warning tool for infrastructure owners to identify bridges presenting signs of distress or deterioration. The development of fragility curves is an important step in seismic risk assessment within the scope of performance‐based earthquake engineering. The goal of this work is to use machine learning methods (regression‐based tools) to forecast the large‐span precast parking structural responses and fragility curves. This study proposes five predicting models based on machine learning to evaluate the seismic performance of the large‐span precast parking structures, including: neural networks, genetic algorithm‐based neural networks, support vector machine, decision tree and random forest. A database that includes 453 numerical synthetic results was used to train and test the machine learning models. The seismic performance of large‐span precast parking structures were predicted using the constructed machine learning models. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of input parameters was conducted. From this paper we can conclude that: (1) the genetic optimization‐based neural networks' predicting model has the most accurate predictive ability for seismic fragility estimation and (2) the structural responses and the fragility curves of parking structures are related to the differences of the stiffness of the connectors and the number of floors, of which the stiffness of the connectors should be given special attention. The automotive S-rail plays a crucial role in frontal car crashes, aiming to absorb impact energy and reduce passenger injury. This paper innovatively presents an optimization approach to determine the optimal configuration of an S-rail featuring a tapered, multicell front section. The structural design of the S-rail is conceptualized within the design space of a heavy quadricycle vehicle and subsequently subjected to numerical investigation through LS-DYNA using nonlinear explicit dynamics analyses. The objective is to maximize energy absorption while minimizing the S-rail's initial peak force (IPF) and mass. An artificial neural network (ANN) is employed to construct surrogate models for the optimization process. The non dominated sorting genetic algorithm, integrated with the ANN, yields an optimal S-rail design. The Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method, using the mean weighting method on the Pareto frontier optimal solution set, is appropriately applied to select the optimal solution. The optimized S-rail shows improved specific energy absorption compared to the baseline model while maintaining a low IPF. In conclusion, this study highlights the superior predictability of an ANN over conventional quadratic response surface methodology. The results confirm the effectiveness of the ANN-based optimization approach and the selection of a compromise solution using the TOPSIS technique. This paper presents a new approach for the online estimation of stator and rotor resistance of induction motors for speed sensorless vector-controlled drives, using feed-forward artificial neural networks with advanced adaptive learning rates. For the rotor resistance estimation, a neural network model based on rotor speed and stator currents is developed. The rotor flux linkages acquired from the voltage model are compared with the neural network model. The feed-forward neural network employs an adaptive learning rate as the function of the obtained error during training for quick convergence with minimal estimation error. A two-layered neural network model based on the stator voltage and current equations is developed for the stator resistance estimation. The d-q axes stator currents obtained from the developed model are compared with the acquired d-q axes stator currents. For the fast convergence with minimal estimation error, an adaptive learning rate as the function of error is adopted during training. Furthermore, the neural network estimates the induction motor's speed. The simulation and experimental results justify that the developed algorithms track variation in the resistances quickly and precisely along with the speed as compared with the conventional constant learning rate algorithm, leading to reliable operation of the drive. With the rapidly evolving geo-political landscape and unceasing advancements in technology, sustainable energy security is a very important topic. Research indicates that electrochemical energy systems are quite promising to solve many of energy conversion, storage, and conservation challenges while offering high efficiencies and low pollution. The paper provides an overview of electrochemical energy devices and the various optimization techniques used to evaluate them. The optimization techniques include linear regression, factorial design, the Taguchi method, artificial neural networks, filters, and a combination of such methods to improve these systems. To support the growing interest in research, the bulk of this study focuses on a review of the most promising and highly researched electrochemical energy devices, such as fuel cells, batteries, and supercapacitors. The paper also provides modest commentary on hydrogen production technologies, electrochemical reactors, and membrane separation technologies, amongst other technologies. Building on a previous paper by the authors of this paper on artificial intelligence in hybrid renewable energy systems with fuel cells, this work provides a comparative review of optimization techniques for supercapacitors by highlighting key findings based on model accuracy. A summary of the advantages and disadvantages of the different major optimization techniques is presented. The paper concludes that a combination of optimization techniques is used to overcome the drawbacks of individual techniques, with adaptive filters being the most widely studied. Solar power generation forecasting plays a vital role in optimizing grid management and stability, particularly in renewable energy-integrated power systems. This research paper presents a comprehensive study on solar power generation forecasting, evaluating traditional and advanced machine learning methods, including ARIMA, Exponential Smoothing, Support Vector Regression, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, and Physics-based Models. Moreover, we propose an innovative Enhanced Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model, which incorporates Weather Modulation and Leveraging Prior Forecasts to enhance prediction accuracy. The proposed model is evaluated using real-world solar power generation data, and the results demonstrate its superior performance compared to traditional methods and other machine learning approaches. The Enhanced ANN model achieves an impressive Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.116 and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 36.26%. The integration of Weather Modulation allows the model to adapt to changing weather conditions, ensuring reliable forecasts even during adverse scenarios. Leveraging Prior Forecasts enables the model to capture short-term trends, reducing forecasting errors arising from abrupt weather changes. Optimal power flow (OPF) is a crucial tool in the operation and planning of modern power systems. However, as power system optimization shifts towards larger-scale frameworks, and with the growing integration of distributed generations, the computational time and memory requirements of solving the alternating current (AC) OPF problems can increase exponentially with system size, posing computational challenges. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has demonstrated notable advantages in efficient computation and has been extensively applied to tackle OPF challenges. Variable selection is one of the most important contents of machine learning research and a large number of variable selection methods have been proposed at present. From deep learning perspective, we propose a new variable selection method based on multi-layer artificial neural networks in this paper. The method propagates errors gained form a trained network model through the network from output layer to input layer and the values gained by input layer give information about the relative contribution. The variables with big contribution value are selected, which we call neural inverse propagation (NIP). Specifically, after training a neural network, the gained errors between the actual network outputs and the desired outputs go through the network from top to down and arrive at the input layer. The absolute values gained by input units provide information about the relative importance (contribution) of input units, which is that the larger the value is, the more important the corresponding input variable is. We remove k variables corresponding to the first k minimum absolute value gained by input units to the predictive variables, to perform variable selection. The efficiency of the proposed method is illustrated through its application to classification and regression tasks on a number of synthetic datasets and a real-world image classification dataset. Structures made of heterogeneous materials, such as composites, often require a multiscale approach when their behavior is simulated using the finite element method. By solving the boundary value problem of the macroscale model, for previously homogenized material properties, the resulting stress maps can be obtained. However, such stress results do not describe the actual behavior of the material and are often significantly different from the actual stresses in the heterogeneous microstructure. Finding high-accuracy stress results for such materials leads to time-consuming analyses in both scales. This paper focuses on the application of machine learning to multiscale analysis of structures made of composite materials, to substantially decrease the time of computations of such localization problems. The presented methodology was validated by a numerical example where a structure made of resin epoxy with randomly distributed short glass fibers was analyzed using a computational multiscale approach. Carefully prepared training data allowed artificial neural networks to learn relationships between two scales and significantly increased the efficiency of the multiscale approach. Pavement engineering has always relied on asphalt concrete as the primary material. As a result, increasing the quality of asphalt concrete for greater performance and longer durability has remained a focus of research. The present paper aims to assess the potential of soft computing-based models, such as Artificial neural networks, Support vector machines, Gaussian process, M5P tree, Random forest, and Random tree-based models, used for the prediction of Marshall Stability of carbon–fiber asphalt mix. Five different statistical indices are used to evaluate the performance of each model with different input variables, such as Bitumen content (BC), Carbon fiber (CF), Bitumen grade (VG), Fiber length (FL), and Fiber diameter (FD), Specific gravity coarse aggregate (SG(CA)), Water absorption coarse aggregate (WA(CA)) and Specific Gravity of bitumen (SG(B)), to get the Marshall Stability (MS) as an output. Five statistical indices were used to assess the effectiveness of the applied models i.e., Coefficient of correlation (CC), Mean absolute error (MAE), Root mean square error (RMSE), Relative absolute error (RAE) and Root relative squared error (RRSE). According to performance evaluation results, it has been found that the ANN-based model has outperformed all the applied models for predicting the Marshall Stability of asphalt concrete using carbon fiber with CC value as 0.9287 and 0.9126, R2 value as 0.8624 and 0.8328, MAE value as 1.7527 and 1.8702, RMSE value as 2.3305 and 2.4438, RAE value as 32.51 and 39.64% and RRSE values as 37.30 and 43.59% for both the training and testing stages respectively. Taylor's diagram suggests that the ANN model outperforms the other applied models. Sensitivity analysis shows that the bitumen content (BC) is the more sensitive parameter in the carbon–fiber asphalt mix. Furthermore, carbon fiber is comparable to the sensitivity of the bitumen content which shows the significance of the carbon fiber in the asphalt mix in predicting the Marshall Stability. This paper proposes a novel hardware architecture for a Feed-Forward Neural Network (FFNN) with the objective of minimizing the number of execution clock cycles needed for the network's computation. The proposed architecture depends mainly on using two physical layers that are multiplexed and reused during the computation of the FFNN to achieve an efficient parallel design. Two physical layers are designed to handle the computation of different sizes of Neural Networks (NN). The proposed FFNN architecture hardware resources are independent of the NN's number of layers, instead, they depend only on the number of neurons in the largest layer. This versatile architecture serves as an accelerator in Deep Neural Network (DNN) computations as it exploits parallelism by making the two physical layers work in parallel through the computations. The proposed implementation was implemented with 18-bit fixed point representation reaching 200 MHz clock speed on a Spartan7 FPGA. One of the most important composite indicators (CIs) to assess the development of countries or regions is the human development index (HDI) which is used by the United Nations (UN) to rank countries. HDI has three dimensions including healthy life, population education, and standard of living. A total of four different sub-indicators are defined for these three dimensions. The UN evaluates and ranks all countries using a simple arithmetic or geometric average of the sub-indicators and then categorizes the countries into four different groups based on their HDI scores. To measure the HDI, the benefit-of-the-doubt (BOD) model is used by researchers instead of the geometric mean. The conventional BOD model has some main drawbacks. The first is not accounting for data uncertainty, and the second is evaluating countries using different weights for the same sub-indicators. Furthermore, BOD model is not capable of predicting countries' future HDI scores. To overcome these deficiencies, this paper proposes a common weight fuzzy BOD (CWFBOD) model to measure the HDI scores. First, to take into account the uncertainty, data are considered fuzzy numbers, and a fuzzy BOD model (FBOD) is introduced. Then, to find a set of common weights for the three dimensions of HDI, the proposed FBOD model is transformed into a multiple-objective CWFBOD model. To convert and solve the multiple objective CWFBOD model to a single objective model, a fuzzy theory approach is used. In addition, of predicting the future HDI scores of countries, an artificial neural network (ANN) is designed and trained, where the original data on sub-indicators health, education, and income are considered as the features, and the HDI scores generated by CWBOD are assumed as the target of ANN. Finally, this study applies the fuzzy C-Means clustering technique to cluster all countries into four different clusters based on the HDI scores generated by FBOD and CWFBOD models. To illustrate the ability of the proposed methodology, the HDI scores of 190 countries during the period of 2015–2021 have been estimated and predicted. Cold-Formed Steel Lipped (CFSL) channels are susceptible to a localized failure mechanism known as web crippling, triggered by concentrated loads or reactions applied to the web of the section. These loads induce buckling and distortion in the web, ultimately leading to the member's collapse. It is a challenging task to accurately determine the web crippling capacity of a CFSL channel due to its complexity and various influencing factors. This paper presents hybrid soft computing techniques for accurately predicting the web crippling capacity of CFSL channels subjected to two flange load cases. The developed soft computing techniques combine Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) with either Genetic Algorithms (GA) or Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to improve computational efficiency and accuracy. The finite element models of CFSL channels are developed and validated by experimental results and then employed to generate a database, which is used to train machine learning models, including ANN, GA-ANN, and PSO-ANN. Analysis is undertaken on the reliability of existing design formulas for determining the web crippling capacity of CFSL channels. It is shown that the PSO-ANN model outperforms the other models in terms of prediction accuracy. The existing design codes and formulas are not reliable in estimating the web crippling capacity of CFSL channels. However, the proposed model yields good correlation with finite element analysis results. Stainless steel has many advantages when used in structures, however, the initial cost is high. Hence, it is essential to develop reliable and accurate design methods that can optimize the material. As novel, reliable soft computation methods, machine learning provided more accurate predictions than analytical formulae and solved highly complex problems. The present study aims to develop machine learning models to predict the cross-section resistance of circular hollow section stainless steel stub column. A parametric study is conducted by varying the diameter, thickness, length, and mechanical properties of the column. This database is used to train, validate, and test machine learning models, Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Decision Trees for Regression (DTR), Gene Expression Programming (GEP) and Support Vector Machine Regression (SVMR). Thereafter, results are compared with finite element models and Eurocode 3 (EC3) to assess their accuracy. It was concluded that the EC3 models provided conservative predictions with an average Predicted-to-Actual ratio of 0.698 and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 437.3. The machine learning models presented the highest level of accuracy. However, the SVMR model based on RBF kernel presented a better performance than the ANN, GEP and DTR machine learning models, and RMSE value for SVMR, ANN, GEP and DTR is 22.6, 31.6, 152.84 and 29.07, respectively. The GEP leads to the lowest level of accuracy among the other three machine learning models, yet, it is more accurate than EC3. Fourier analysis based optimization techniques have been developed for numerical schemes on structured grids and result in significant performance improvements. However, there lacks an effective optimization technique for numerical schemes on general unstructured grids, due to the mesh geometry complexity that makes Fourier transformation infeasible. To address this issue, an optimization framework based on machine learning is developed in this paper for numerical schemes on unstructured grids. The optimization of a compact high-order variational reconstruction on triangular grids is performed to illustrate the framework. An artificial neural network (ANN) is used to predict the optimal values of the derivative weights on cell interfaces that are the free parameters of the variational reconstruction, given the local geometry as input. The ANN is trained by minimizing the solution errors of a linear advection equation on a set of generated compact stencils, with a set of sampled sine waves as initial conditions. The developed optimization framework is applicable to general numerical schemes on unstructured grids as the training does not require explicit computation of dispersion or dissipation. Viscoelastic characterization of asphalt binders is critical for selecting suitable binders for a given climatic region and for improving long-term performance prediction using mechanistic-empirical pavement analysis and design methods, such as the Mechanistic-Empirical-Pavement-Design-Guide (MEPDG). A-VTS information (viscosity data) was used in the past and existing databases have this type of information. Nowadays, Dynamic Shear Modulus (|G*|) and Phase Angle (δ) determination using the Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) is common practice. This resulted in the existence of old and new databases in highway agencies. The goal is to find a way to combine these separate data sets and merge them into a unified national database based on |G*| and δ. The work discussed in this paper is critical to make this merger possible and to use this in future binder to mixture predictive model developments and in MEPDG. In this study, |G*| and δ prediction models were developed. A machine learning technique named Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was employed in this process. 8940 data points from 41 binders were utilized in the model development process. After robust training, validation, and testing process, a |G*| prediction model with seven neurons and a δ prediction model with three neurons were reported. The models were compared with previous Bari-Witczak and Onifade-Birgisson models. ANN-based models performed better in every statistical parameter. Two equations were also extracted from the ANN models, which can be used reliably to predict |G*| and δ from A-VTS data. These two models with closed-form equations can be incorporated into the MEPDG for |G*| and δ predictions. • New models for Binder dynamic shear modulus and phase angle using binder viscosity data with temperature and frequency. • Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is utilized in the model development process. • An equation is extracted from each ANN-based model. • The prediction performance of new models is better than existing models in every statistical parameter.
