- Abstract
Carbon moves through the atmosphere, through the oceans, onto land, and into ecosystems. This cycling has a large effect on climate – changing geographic patterns of rainfall and the frequency of extreme weather – and is altered as the use of fossil fuels adds carbon to the cycle. The dynamics of this global carbon cycling are largely predicted over broad spatial scales and long periods of time by Earth system models. This book addresses the crucial question of how to assess, evaluate, and estimate the potential impact of the additional carbon to the land carbon cycle. The contributors describe a set of new approaches to land carbon cycle modeling for better exploring ecological questions regarding changes in carbon cycling; employing data assimilation techniques for model improvement; doing real- or near-time ecological forecasting for decision support; and combining newly available machine learning techniques with process-based models to improve prediction of the land carbon cycle under climate change. This new edition includes seven new chapters: machine learning and its applications to carbon cycle research (five chapters); principles underlying carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere, contemporary active research and management issues (one chapter); and community infrastructure for ecological forecasting (one chapter).Key Features Helps readers understand, implement, and criticize land carbon cycle models Offers a new theoretical framework to understand transient dynamics of the land carbon cycle Describes a suite of modeling skills – matrix approach to represent land carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles; data assimilation and machine learning to improve parameterization; and workflow systems to facilitate ecological forecasting Introduces a new set of techniques, such as semi-analytic spin-up (SASU), unified diagnostic system with a 1-3-5 scheme, traceability analysis, and benchmark analysis, and PROcess-guided machine learning and DAta-driven modeling (PRODA) for model evaluation and improvement Reorganized from the first edition with seven new chapters added Strives to balance theoretical considerations, technical details, and applications of ecosystem modeling for research, assessment, and crucial decision-making

- Abstract
This book provides a concise yet comprehensive look at carbon nanostructured materials, focusing on synthesis methodologies, applications, and fundamental principles. Based on extensive research conducted at the Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, it offers a thorough examination of recent advancements in the field. The book describes various synthesis techniques, particularly emphasizing the continuous synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on metal catalysts using chemical vapor deposition (CVD). It also discusses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of heating processes associated with carbon materials, crucial for understanding the thermodynamics of complex gas systems relevant to CNTs synthesis. Furthermore, the book discusses the structural properties of carbon nanomaterials, employing techniques such as Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy. It provides detailed insights into the design and optimization of modern equipment for CNTs synthesis, with a focus on energy-efficient reactors for thermally expanded graphite (TEG) production. Beyond synthesis methodologies, the book explores applications of carbon nanomaterials, including their use in lithium-ion batteries, water purification systems, and nuclear reactors. It offers a serious examination of the potential environmental and technological implications of these materials. Comprising three distinct parts, each supplemented with comprehensive summaries, this book serves as a valuable resource for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in material science, thermal engineering, and nanotechnology. It presents empirical findings, theoretical insights, and practical applications, establishing itself as a valuable addition to the literature in the field of carbon nanostructured materials.

- Abstract
The book describes the technique of electrochemical exfoliation, which possesses remarkable ability to bring about transformation. Among various known synthesis methods, the electrochemical exfoliation approach eliminates the use of harsh chemicals and energy-intensive methods commonly linked to the synthesis of graphene. Electrochemical exfoliation utilizes electrical energy to gently remove layers of graphene from its original source, providing a more environmentally friendly method. This precise and careful synchronization heralds a new era in the field of materials science, where the principles of sustainability converge with unmatched performance. Moreover, the benefits extend beyond environmental excellence. This book also examines the complexities of electrochemical exfoliation, highlighting its clear advantage over traditional techniques. The approach demonstrates process in manipulating the structure and properties of graphene, allowing for the customization of specific capabilities to suit a wide range of applications.
