In the past few years, there has been a notable interest in the application of machine learning methods to enhance energy efficiency in the smart building industry. Building energy baseline models, particularly machine learning-based models, are a core aspect in the evaluation of building energy performance to identify inefficient energy consumption behavior. In smart city design, energy planners and decision makers require comprehensive information on energy consumption across diverse building types as well as comparisons between different types of buildings. However, there is no comprehensive study of baseline modeling across the main building types to help identify factors that influence the performance of different machine learning algorithms for baseline modeling. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to review and analyze energy consumption behavior and evaluate the prediction performance and interpretability of machine learning-based baseline modeling techniques across major building types. The results have shown that the Extreme Gradient Boosting Machine (XGBoost) model is the most accurate baseline modeling method for all building types. Time-related factors, especially the week of the year and the day of the week, have the most impact on energy consumption across all building types. This study is presented as a useful resource for smart city energy managers to help in choosing and setting up appropriate methodologies for better operational effectiveness and efficiencies when designing and planning smart energy systems. In order to improve the short-term energy consumption control effect of green buildings and shorten the control time, this paper proposes a short-term energy consumption control method of green buildings based on density peak optimization. Firstly, the research status of green building energy consumption control is analyzed, and the short-term energy consumption data information of green building is obtained. Secondly, the definition of peak density algorithm is given, the short-term energy consumption control model of green building is constructed, and the initial cluster center of the short-term energy consumption model of green building is selected to calculate the probability density of the short-term energy consumption control model of green building. Finally, the adaptive genetic algorithm is used to control the short-term energy consumption of green buildings. The experimental results show that the research method can achieve good prediction accuracy in each season, and the short-term energy consumption control time of green buildings is only 3.2 seconds, indicating that the research method can effectively improve energy consumption control efficiency, shorten the short-term energy consumption control time of green buildings, and verify the superiority of the research method. At the same time, it indicates that the research method has certain application value in short-term energy consumption control of green buildings, and can provide a theoretical basis and data support for the field of short-term energy consumption control of green buildings. Greenhouse gases emission as well as total energy consumption in buildings of public importance, such as schools, municipal buildings, health care centers, can be significantly reduced by increasing buildings' energy efficiency. Buildings' energy consumption adds up to 37% of total energy consumption in the EU countries. In the Republic of Serbia this amount is significantly higher, about 50%. School buildings are considered as one of the most diverse structures from the point of energy-efficient design and construction. The main aim of this paper is to determine the most appropriate settings for possible improvements in energy efficiency and temperature comfort inside a typical primary school classroom in Serbia. The energy efficiency analysis was performed during the heating season for the naturally ventilated primary school classroom located in the eastern Serbia region. The analysis was performed using novel CFD model, suggested in this paper. The suggested model was used to solve two hypothetical scenarios. The first scenario simulates the temperature field in classroom with current energy characteristic envelope of the school building. The calculated numerical data from the first scenario were compared with in-situ measurements values of temperature and wall heat fluxes and showed satisfying accuracy. The second scenario was simulated to indicate possible improvements, which would allow energy consumption decrease and thermal quality enhancement. The analyzed results, calculated using the suggested numerical model under the second scenario conditions, showed that using appropriate set of measures, it is possible to obtain desired temperature comfort levels without need for increase in the building energy consumption. This paper presents the challenges of increasing the energy efficiency investments in European Union (EU) residential buildings in the context of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The paper presents the results of the PRIMES buildings model in key energy policy applications to support cost-effective and fair policy making in buildings across Europe. The model covers, in detail, the building sector for all the EU Member States (MS), segmenting the buildings into many categories. The approach proposed includes non-market barriers in conventional microeconomic modelling, which combined with idiosyncratic preferences can capture poor energy efficiency choices and still represent rational behaviours. The model includes a detailed portrayal of policies specific to the sector, comprising economic and regulatory policies as well as institutional measures. The results of the model show that the removal of non-market barriers is of great importance in reducing energy consumption and increasing both the pace and the depth of renovation investment. However, the institutional measures alone are not enough to induce energy efficiency improvement to the scale required to achieve the climate neutrality objectives. Economic (i.e., subsidies) or regulatory measures (i.e., energy performance standards) are also required to decrease emissions and energy consumption in buildings and the paper compares different configurations thereof. The optimum policy mix obviously derives from a compromise among various aims including the cost-effectiveness of the policy budget and the distributional impacts across building and consumer types. Since the reduction of energy consumption and efficient energy use, particularly in the building stock, is the priority for contemporary societies, the ways of how to improve the existing buildings should be examined. Flat roofs, as a part of the existing building thermal envelope, are recognized as a field of intervention for improving efficient energy use for space cooling and heating. The topic of the paper is to determine to what extent different improved roof structures affect energy consumption intended to achieve thermal comfort. Comparative analysis of four roof structures was conducted for the building of Healthcare center Niš in Serbia, one improved non-walkable flat roof structure and three green roof systems. Urbancsape extensive green roof system was used in all tested green roof models: non-walkable extensive green roof, walkable extensive green roof, and extensive and intensive green roof systems within walkable terraces. DesignBuilder software was used for energy modelling. The obtained results indicate a slight decrease in energy consumption for building models with green roofs compared to the building model with the improved non-walkable roof structure, along the cooling period, by approximately 1.5%, which is correlated with previous studies in similar conditions. On the other hand, the reduction of energy consumption over the heating period was negligible (less than 1%). Considering the results and predominant usage of commercial Urbanscape extensive green roof system in all green roof models, being characterized by small thickness (10.64 cm) and light structure, and which is predicted to be installed over the already well-insulated roof, the system's role as an additional thermal mass was confirmed. Purpose: There is a great interest in developing eco-friendly operations as alternative uses of resources in the university campus, making the employment of technologies more sustainable. Practices such as energy management and efficiency initiatives have been encouraged to meet these sustainability goals. The purpose of this paper is to describe and discuss the main features of the GENIIOT project, a system of energy management using Internet of Things applied in a Brazilian university campus to support energy education practices and to promote lasting energy efficiency measures. The focus of the study is directed at the energy consumption of the air-conditioning system, which is responsible for 40% of the total electricity consumption. In addition, this project also scrutinizes processes such as the building occupants' comfort demands, lighting levels and energy waste control. Design/methodology/approach: A case study at the Unicamp campus was conducted to illustrate the design procedures through qualitative description. This study comprises an overview of the physical plant, hardware and software development, energy data monitoring, management process and energy education. Findings: The GENIIOT project enables energy efficiency actions by concerning the use of air-conditioning equipment based on monitored data, different types of monitored rooms, user's behaviors and their feedback. This initiative requires the engagement, awareness and actions from users combined with investment in energy efficiency to achieve an efficient use of this type of equipment. The proposed approach can be applied in the future to similar situations, inside the Unicamp campus and at other university campuses. In addition, this project can contribute to building efficiency analysis by using the hardware structure developed to monitor facilities and carry out evaluations, providing valuable information for strategic initiatives in energy efficiency projects and research and development programs based on practical experience and promoting a discussion about sustainability aspects in the context of the university campus for energy efficiency. Originality/value: The GENIIOT project is aligned with some of the sustainable development goals, among which sustainability and responsible consumption are identified. Considering the sustainability issues, the economic dimension can be evaluated through a cost–benefit analysis of energy efficiency projects with prudent investment, while the social attractiveness of the project is ensured by education and awareness practices for the community that interacts with the system and learns about a more efficient way of using resources in the campus. Furthermore, there is a more conscious use of natural resources by minimizing waste from the use of electricity and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is associated with significant promise in the manufacturing sector. However, it has been shown that the risk of build failure has a substantial impact on the costs of AM and that this results from a relatively high level of process instability. Importantly, for such a promising technology, the effects of the risk of build failure on energy consumption have not yet been studied, which creates a significant gap in the knowledge of the real environmental performance of AM. This research addresses this gap by investigating the energy consumption of AM subject to the possibility of build failure. This is done by constructing a novel expected energy consumption model, integrating process energy consumption, the energy embedded in the raw material, and the probability of build failure as a function of the number of layers deposited. Model parameters are obtained from a series of build experiments conducted on the AM technology variant polymeric laser sintering, also known as laser powder bed fusion of polymers. The energy consumption model shows that the risk of build failure accounts for a substantial share of overall expected energy consumption, amounting to up to approximately 31% at full capacity utilization. Drones have been attracting the attention of diverse industries thanks to their superior maneuverability. Logistics companies especially keep trying to utilize drones for fast delivery following the growing market size of e-commerce. Accordingly, methods for safely operating multi-drone have been researched, and many researchers have proposed various optimal or near-optimal routing methods. However, such methods have some problems that cause routing failures or huge routing computation time in a drone-dense space due to many collisions. In this paper, we propose a centralized framework that deals with enormous collisions and obtains collision-free paths rapidly. We first build a drone energy consumption model with a data-driven method using flight experiment data of a commercial drone to estimate the drone battery state-of-charge (SoC). Then, we develop a novel routing method that generates collision-free paths by considering both the congestion of the space and the SoC of each drone. The proposed method is inspired by the VLSI circuit routing method that connects all signal nets among thousands of logic components. Through numerous delivery routing simulations, we confirm that the proposed method achieves a maximum of 6 times higher routing success rate with a 10x faster runtime compared with the state-of-the-art optimal method. In order to achieve China's energy conservation and emission reduction goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions around 2030, it is of great significance. An important means of building energy conservation and emission reduction is the fine management of building energy consumption, which is based on the accurate prediction of building energy consumption, so as to support the optimal management of building operation and achieve the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction. This paper puts forward the evaluation indexes of the results of the building energy consumption prediction model, uses MAPE and RMSE indexes to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction results of the model, and uses the prediction time and input parameter dimensions to evaluate the time cost of the prediction model. Then, using the three building energy consumption prediction models based on machine learning algorithm established above, the prediction of energy consumption of four types of public buildings in different seasons is completed, and the prediction results are evaluated and analyzed. Currently, building energy consumption prediction models are usually based on a large amount of historical operational data in high demands of building operating hours and monitoring systems. However, many buildings may lack operational data due to relatively limited monitoring systems, causing the failure to use data-driven methods to characterize the energy profile. In this context, transfer learning is a promising method to establish the knowledge transfer between many high-quality building operation datasets and a small amount of target building data, and to help predict energy consumption in the target building. This paper studies the possibility of employing transfer learning to achieve both short and long-term building energy consumption prediction. Firstly, a similarity analysis method, based on variable modal decomposition and dynamic time warping, is proposed for identifying the source buildings with the most similar energy features to the target building. Then, transfer learning for long-term prediction air-conditioning energy consumption is developed with weather parameters generated by the Morphing method as inputs. For the short-term single-step prediction, the proposed model CV-RMSE improves 81.3% (AEC) and 77.4% (EEC), respectively, compared to the prediction model that does not implement the transfer learning strategy and directly uses the target BEC data. As for the short-term multi-step prediction, the proposed model CV-RMSE improves 62.0% (AEC) and 65.5% (EEC), respectively. For the long-term prediction, the average CV-RMSE for the whole year is 6.62% and 11.15% for the proposed and directly target domain-based model, respectively. Paying attention to the feature engineering problems is the basis for constructing a more accurate building energy consumption prediction model, which helps debug, control, and operate building energy management systems. Therefore, in this paper, an integrated energy consumption prediction model considering spatial characteristics in time series data is proposed to predict the short-term energy consumption of educational buildings, and the influence of features on the model is analyzed using the cooperative game theory SHAP method, and the optimal number of features is determined by ablation analysis. The proposed model is validated by an educational building in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. The results show that compared with other energy consumption prediction models, the RMSE value of the integrated energy consumption prediction model is reduced by 13.64%–34.55%, and the MAE value is reduced by 10.25%–30.54%, which has higher prediction accuracy. The UK introduced carbon budgets in 2008, with an aim to reduce greenhouse gases by 80% by 2050 compared with the 1990 levels. It has been argued that the 2015 Paris Agreement on limiting the global average temperature rise to 'well below 2° C' requires deeper and more rapid emission reductions than the current UK targets. Household energy consumption accounts for almost a third of total UK CO2 emissions in recent years. This paper explores drivers of high energy consumption in domestic buildings from a sociological practice perspective and through a lens of dominant meanings of 'home'. Whilst the practice approach and meanings of home have been explored separately in the literature to understand household energy consumption, this paper adds new findings on the interaction between the meanings of home and the elements of practices. Results show the dominant meaning of home differs between householders; this in turn affects the materials and procedures of energy-consuming practices. For instance, if 'home' means 'hospitality', this changes the standard of comfort and convenience people perceive at home. Understanding how practices and meanings of the home intersect, provides new, much needed insights that could support policy change commensurate with more rapidly reducing CO2 emissions from domestic energy consumption. The topology management classifiers consist of several methods, such as the typical clustering-based method excelled in wireless network partitioning. However, most algorithms appear load unbalanced in the application of irregular network, resulting "energy hot zone" phenomenon. This paper proposes an improved intelligent clustering algorithm and applies it to the complex water system environment. Firstly, we build a new energy consumption model for wireless transmission network, and design a genetic clustering strategy via the minimum energy consumption principle. Secondly, we introduce the P matrix coding approach considering the search scale, so as to avoid the squared increasing relationship between the searching space and the data calculation. Thirdly, we employ adaptive genetic operator to enhance the directivity of the searching space, and utilize a fuzzy modified operator to enhance the accuracy of the cluster head selection, which may ensure the iterative efficiency. Through numerical simulations, empirical results show better performance than traditional methods in load balancing and clustering efficiency, which can effectively improve the network convergence speed and extend the network lifetime. Building energy consumption prediction plays an important role in realizing building energy conservation control. Limited by some external factors such as temperature, there are some problems in practical applications, such as complex operation and low prediction accuracy. Aiming at the problem of low prediction accuracy caused by poor timing of existing building energy consumption prediction methods, a building energy consumption prediction and analysis method based on the deep learning network is proposed in this paper. Before establishing the energy consumption prediction model, the building energy consumption data source is preprocessed and analyzed. Then, based on the Keras deep learning framework, an improved long short-term memory (ILSTM) prediction model is built to support the accurate analysis of the whole cycle of the prediction network. At the same time, the adaptive moment (Adam) estimation algorithm is used to update and optimize the weight parameters of the model to realize the adaptive and rapid update and matching of network parameters. The simulation experiment is based on the actual dataset collected by a university in Southwest China. The experimental results show that the evaluation indexes MAE and RMSE of the proposed method are 0.015 and 0.109, respectively, which are better than the comparison method. Building energy consumption (BEC) prediction often requires constructing a corresponding model for each building based historical data. However, the constructed model for one building is difficult to be reused in other buildings. Recent approaches have shown that cloud-edge collaboration architecture is promising in realizing model reuse. How to complete the reuse of cloud energy consumption prediction models at the edge and reduce the computational cost of the model training is one of the key issues that need to be solved. To handle the above problems, a cloud-edge collaboration based transferring prediction method for BEC is proposed in this paper. Specifically, a model library stored prediction models for different types of buildings is constructed based the historical energy consumption data and the long short-term memory (LSTM) network in the cloud firstly; then, the similarity measurement strategies of time series with different granularity are given, and the model to be transferred from the model library is matched by analyzing the similarity between observation data uploaded to the cloud and the historical data collected in the cloud; finally, the fine-tuning strategy of the matching prediction model is given, and this model is fine-tuned at the edge to achieve its reuse in concrete application scenarios. Experiments on practical datasets reveal that compared with the prediction model which doesn't utilize the transfer strategy, the proposed prediction model has better performance according to MAE and RMSE. China accounts for more than 22% of the total energy consumption worldwide. Building energy consumption, among which consumption in public buildings was about 40% took the second place. With the problems of high energy waste, error rate and complexity of the control systems available, an indoor intelligent lighting system based on occupants' location is proposed in this paper to improve the energy efficiency of the current lighting systems indoors. The transmission model of electromagnetic wave in free space is optimized in both aspects of reference signal strength and attenuation coefficient radiation in complex environment dynamically based on which occupants' positions are obtained. The smart lighting system will turn on or off corresponding lights adaptively to provide a more energy efficient platform. Experimental results show that the proposed system is able to improve the energy efficiency of indoor lighting by at least 15%, with a lower error rate below 2% compared with the existing lighting systems based on voice control. Building energy consumption (BEC) prediction is very important for energy management and conservation. This paper presents a short-term energy consumption prediction method that integrates the Fuzzy Rough Set (FRS) theory and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model, and is thus named FRS-LSTM. This method can find the most directly related factors from the complex and diverse factors influencing the energy consumption, which improves the prediction accuracy and efficiency. First, the FRS is used to reduce the redundancy of the input features by the attribute reduction of the factors affecting the energy consumption forecasting, and solves the data loss problem caused by the data discretization of a classical rough set. Then, the final attribute set after reduction is taken as the input of the LSTM networks to obtain the final prediction results. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, this study used the actual data of a public building to predict the building's energy consumption, and compared the proposed model with the LSTM, Levenberg-Marquardt Back Propagation (LM-BP), and Support Vector Regression (SVR) models. In the 21st century, urbanization has caused rapid growth in the global construction area, resulting in high building resource consumption and long-term environmental impacts. Analyzing the resource consumption of public buildings and identifying the key factors that affect the consumption of building resources is important for developing of targeted policies. In this paper, we analyzed each branch of the People's Bank of China based on energy, water, and land resource consumption as well as the structure of energy consumption. Based on resource-consumption indicators, we divided 31 provincial-level administrative regions into four resource consumption levels; 65% were in the low-to-medium resource consumption levels. Medium-sized buildings had the highest energy consumption level and a more balanced energy consumption structure. The energy consumption per capita, water consumption, and utilization rate of small-sized buildings were low. Accurate building energy consumption forecasting is crucial for developing efficient building energy management systems, improving energy efficiency, and local building energy supervision and management. However, short-term building energy consumption forecasting is challenging due to highly non-smooth and volatile trends. In this paper, we present a novel methodology that combines interpretable decomposition methods with an interpretable forecasting model. We first illustrate a daily energy consumption pattern recognition (DECPR) method, which decomposes daily energy consumption patterns into interpretable energy consumption subsequences. To achieve satisfactory forecasting performance, we design the vector representation of each subsequence as a static input to the temporal fusion transformers (TFT) model. This vector representation integrates the DECPR method into the TFT model. The TFT model produces interpretable outputs, such as the attention analysis of different step lengths and the visualization of the importance ranking of exogenous variables, including meteorological data, calendar information, and the vector representation. Empirical studies demonstrate that our proposed DECPR-TFT system outperforms comparable models with a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 6.11%, which is significantly lower than other models. These interpretable outputs provide valuable insights for researchers seeking to develop energy-saving operation strategies in buildings. In this paper, the internal energy consumption on the Internet of Things (IoT) has been studied. The purpose of this paper is to predict the factors affecting energy consumption in buildings by considering machine learning algorithms such as k-nearest neighbors (KNN), Ada boost, random forest and neural network. These algorithms are implemented in the Orange tool. Also, the univariate regression algorithm is used to select the best feature. This algorithm determines the most important factors affecting energy consumption and their impact. Then, with the help of Gephi tool, these data are simulated in the IoT environment as a complex network. The simulated network in the Internet of things is also a small world network. This network shows the relationships between the features. The results of this paper show that the overall height, roof area, surface area and relative compaction have the greatest impact on the energy consumption of buildings. The impact of village morphology on habitats' daily spatiotemporal behavior and building energy consumption is still vague. This research aims to propose a method to reveal how and to what extent village morphology and residents' demographic structure influence farmhouses' occupancy rate and energy consumption. For this purpose, a combined time geography and building energy consumption method was proposed to disclose the relationship among residents' family roles, village morphology and household energy consumption. To explore the occupancy rate of farm-houses with different family members in different village morphology, resident types based on field research (retrospective interviews and aggregation behavior observation) were formulated. Residents with similar time-space behavior seemed as an "agent" and then a specified number of agents are combined into different families for ideal experiments. By placing different households in different villages for multi-factor cross-experiment, the occupancy rates of different households are obtained based on individual time-space behavior patterns, and then the energy consumption of each household under different scenarios is obtained by combining building energy consumption simulation. In addition, the relationship between resident's disposable personal time, local public space' quality, and the house occupancy rate was analyzed. Combined with a case study in Shanghai with 417 valid questionnaires, it can be seen that the method proposed in this paper is effective and villages with high quality public space have the potential to reduce household energy consumption from 2.17% to 38.82% for diverse families. The quantitative result indicated that the occupancy rate is mainly influenced by residents having more disposable personal time, and such space-time behavior is sensitive to village morphology. Recently, the spread of IoT technologies has led to an unprecedented acquisition of energy-related data providing accessible knowledge on the actual performance of buildings during their operation. A proper analysis of such data supports energy and facility managers in spotting valuable energy saving opportunities. In this context, anomaly detection and diagnosis (ADD) tools allow a prompt and automatic recognition of abnormal and non-optimal energy performance patterns enabling a better decision-making to reduce energy wastes and system inefficiencies. To this aim, this paper introduces a novel meter-level ADD process capable to identify energy consumption anomalies at meter-level and perform diagnosis by exploiting information at sub-load level. The process leverages supervised and unsupervised analytics techniques coupled with the distance-based contextual matrix profile (CMP) algorithm to discover infrequent subsequences in energy consumption timeseries considering specific boundary conditions. The proposed process has self-tuning capabilities and can rank anomalies at both meter and sub-load level by means of robust severity score. The methodology is tested on one-year energy consumption timeseries of a medium/low voltage transformation cabin of the university campus of Politecnico di Torino leading to the detection of 55 anomalous subsequences that are diagnosed by analysing a group of 8 different sub-loads. Buildings account for a majority of the primary energy consumption of the human society, therefore, analyses of building energy consumption monitoring data are of significance to the discovery of anomalous energy usage patterns, saving of building utility expenditures, and contribution to the greater environmental protection effort. This paper presents a unified framework for the automatic extraction and integration of building energy consumption data from heterogeneous building management systems, along with building static data from building information models to serve analysis applications. This paper also proposes a diagnosis framework based on density-based clustering and artificial neural network regression using the integrated data to identify anomalous energy usages. Different regions in China have different energy consumption characteristics and changing trends. This paper focuses on analyzing trends in energy consumption changes along the timeline for 30 regions in China. Using the Hybrid Input-Output Model, this paper decomposes energy consumption in 30 regions in 2007, 2012 and 2016 into energy embedded of final consumption expenditure, gross capital formation, inflow and outflow. We use these four dimensions as coordinates to draw a regional radar map. According to the changing characteristics of the radar map, 30 regions are divided into three groups. By analyzing the reasons for the changes in three regions, we draw the following conclusions. For regions where energy consumption is mainly inflow, the economically developed regions have to form a low energy consumption environment while achieving economic growth. The economically underdeveloped regions need to carry out energy conservation and emission reduction as well as ensuring the level of economic development. For some outflow regions with moderately economic development, it is necessary to balance the economic development and energy consumption control according to regional characteristics. For resource-rich regions which are in the process of transformation from agriculture to industrialization, they have to maintain the rapid development speed and strengthen their infrastructure with less energy consumption of buildings. In recent years, a large number of building energy consumption prediction models, with various intended uses, have been proposed. The majority of these models have either taken a data-driven or a physical modeling approach, with each approach having its own strengths and limitations. Towards leveraging the strengths and reducing the limitations of each approach for improved prediction performance, this paper presents a hybrid machine-learning approach for occupant-behavior-sensitive energy consumption prediction. The proposed approach is composed of three constituent models: (1) a machine-learning model that learns the impact of outdoor weather conditions from simulation-generated data, (2) a machine-learning model that learns the impact of occupant behavior from real data, and (3) an ensemble model that predicts cooling energy consumption based on the outputs of the first two models. The simulation-generated data were created through simulating a set of reference buildings in EnergyPlus. The real data were collected from an office building in Pennsylvania. The proposed hybrid model was validated on an unseen real dataset. It achieved 0.73 kWh RMSE and 9.07% CV in hourly cooling energy consumption prediction, which indicates that the proposed approach is promising. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the interactions of users with air conditioning systems, lighting, natural ventilation, internal shading devices, and costs related to automation of a teaching building. Three behavior patterns (proactive, intermediate and careless) were created. The proactive user seeks to use natural light, uses passive solar shading and integration of natural and artificial ventilation. The intermediate user does not seek integration of natural and artificial lighting, they use hybrid ventilation as a ventilation strategy. The careless user does not use any passive strategy, predominantly uses artificial conditioning and adjusts cooling and heating setpoint to values out of the norms. In addition to the users' behaviors, the automated building was modeled. Computer simulations were performed in the EnergyPlus program, in order to measure the influence of behavior patterns on the building's energy consumption. Based on the analysis of the building's energy consumption profile, results indicate users are between the intermediate and the careless user classification, with a tendency to the intermediate user profile. This paper takes Jinan, a typical city in cold region IIB of China, as an example, to quantify and analyse the residential layout parameters related to heating energy consumption: group layout, building orientation and building spacing; ECOTECT and HTB2 are used to model and simulate the energy consumption of the three types of layout residential groups selected for the study, and the relationship between residential group layout parameters and residential heating energy consumption is analysed based on multiple linear regression analysis. Industrial robots have been widely utilized in factories to replace or help employees performing tasks such as handling, welding, and assembly. With the increasing breadth of installation and deployment of industrial robots, it is critical to predict and optimize their energy consumption in order to assure their environmentally friendly characteristics. While the data-driven modeling method based on multi-layer perception has been demonstrated to be a viable way for revealing quantitative relationships between operating parameters and energy consumption for industrial robots regardless of physical process or case-specific information, there are still some limitations in terms of prediction range, modeling efficiency, and sample size requirement. To accelerate model rebuilding and improve model accuracy without collecting a large number of samples simultaneously, this paper proposes a transfer-learning-based model creation method for energy consumption of industrial robots, where the associated operating parameters are analyzed, and structure adjustment strategies for multi-layer perception are planned for various industrial robot systems, then, schemes for the reuse of parameters in well-trained networks on source domain and the fine-tunning of multi-layer perception model are formulated to efficiently build the accurate energy consumption model on target domains. Experiments are conducted on two distinct robot systems, the Epson C4 and the Siasun SR10C, with nonidentical operating parameter structures and sample sizes. The results demonstrate that transfer learning models with fine-tuning strategy outperform previous data-driven modeling methods in terms of model accuracy and modeling efficiency in both of these situations. In this paper, we construct a unique database for 1228 residential buildings in Hong Kong to investigate how the spatial features of these residential buildings affect the electricity consumption in the communal area. We choose Hong Kong for this analysis as the city owns a large number of standard-type residential buildings managed by the public institution, which could be affected strongly by environmental policies. Both the machine learning method, based on the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO), and econometric regressions are adopted to analyse the data. We first utilize the machine learning LASSO technique to identify the most relevant factors for the subsequent econometric analysis. Our results show that the electricity demand for relatively low consumption building types, such as Twin Tower, is 6% lower than that of the high consumption building types. Newly constructed buildings usually belong to the medium consumption types, with the estimated monthly electricity consumption per apartment in communal areas to be around 50.2 kWh on average in 2020. These findings shed light on the nexus between spatial features and energy use for complex buildings, potentially contributing to the better crafting of energy-saving policy and the improvement of residential building programmes. Nowadays, the growth in the consumption of energy and the need to face pollution resulting from its generation are causing concern for consumers and providers. Energy consumption in residential buildings and houses is about 22% of total energy production. Cutting-edge energy managers aim to optimize electrical devices in homes, taking into account users' patterns, goals, and needs, by creating energy consumption awareness and helping current change habits. In this way, energy manager systems (EMSs) monitor and manage electrical appliances, automate and schedule actions, and make suggestions regarding electrical consumption. Furthermore, gamification strategies may change energy consumption patterns through energy managers, which are seen as an option to save energy and money. Therefore, this paper proposes a personalized gamification strategy for an EMS through an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) decision-making engine to classify the level of electrical consumption and persuade the end-user to reduce and modify consumption patterns, saving energy and money with gamified motivations. These strategies have proven to be effective in changing consumer behavior with intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. The interfaces consider three cases for summer and winter periods to calculate the saving-energy potentials: (1) for a type of user that is interested in home-improvement efforts while helping to save energy; (2) for a type of user that is advocating to save energy; (3) for a type of user that is not interested in saving energy. Hence, each interface considers the end-user's current consumption and the possibility to modify their consumption habits using their current electrical devices.
