The present work investigates the energy performance analysis of a heptad‐based multiple‐stage evaporator (MSE) under steady and transient conditions, integrated with different energy reduction schemes (such as steam split, feed split, and feed preheater). The steady‐state analysis was performed to optimize the steam economy subjected to the developed steady‐state energy models as the equality constraints. The simulated optimization is a maximization problem and is solved by Interior‐Point Optimizer and Gray Wolf Optimizer on two different platforms, GAMS and MATLAB, respectively. Further, transient and stability analyses were performed by developing and representing the nonlinear dynamic energy models to the state‐space representation using linearization. To enhance the quality and efficiency of computer-enabled generation of papers for Test for English Majors Band 8 (TEM-8), a paper generation model supported by sparrow search algorithm-genetic algorithm was studied. First, a simplified test paper generation mathematical model was set up after analyzing and studying types and characteristics of TEM-8 tasks. In the model, quantity, type, difficulty, discrimination degree, scores, exposure, and answering time of test questions were taken into consideration. To enhance the optimizing effect of the genetic algorithm for searching test questions, the traditional genetic algorithm was improved by introducing the sparrow search algorithm into the model to achieve a better crossover rate, variance rate, optimization precision, and speed of the genetic algorithm. A new sparrow search-genetic algorithm (SSA-GA) was designed, and the optimizing effect of SSA-GA was verified to be ideal through optimizing six standard test functions. Then, SSA-GA was applied to conduct experimentation with test paper generation, and comparison with traditional genetic algorithms was also made. The values of best and average fitness of SSA-GA were better than those of the traditional genetic algorithm (GA) in the paper generation. Exposure rate and success rate in TEM-8 paper generation of SSA-GA were higher than those of traditional GA in TEM-8 paper generation. How to monitor the freshness of packaged food, the safety of sealed medicine, or the other substances in sealed space wirelessly and environment‐friendly has become an urgent problem in recent years. After summarizing the theory of the LC sensor, a design of a paper‐based resonator (30 mm × 30 mm × 0.15 mm) consisting of a finger capacitor is proposed in this paper. The sensor is embedded inside the package by adhering it to the package's inner wall. Its response is remotely detected through a readout coil. This paper establishes a circuit simulation model and an electromagnetic simulation model to verify the feasibility of the design. Compared with the real object and the theoretical simulation model, the difference between the results only within 1 MHz, which verifies the correctness of the theory. Additionally, the measured results indicate that the resonant frequency of the resonator shifted from 102.441 MHz to 88.195 MHz, after dropping water on the sensor. The influence of nonuniform aging has not been considered in the prediction of the frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) of the transformer oil-paper insulation (OPI) when using the finite element method (FEM). Given this issue, the modified simulation model was constructed based on the XY model and FEM. In the current work, the dielectric response property of the pressboards with different aging conditions in the modified model was characterized by its dielectric response parameters measured in the lab. Then the modified simulation model constructed in a 3-D system would be applied to study the effect of both nonuniform aging and the axial geometry on the FDS of OPI. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed models was verified by comparing the measured FDS and the predicted FDS. This paper aims to develop a construction and operation cost model of wastewater treatment for the paper industry in China and explores the main factors that determine these costs. Previous models mainly involved factors relating to the treatment scale and efficiency of treatment facilities for deriving the cost function. We considered the factors more comprehensively by adding a regional variable to represent the economic development level, a corporate ownership factor to represent the plant characteristics, a subsector variable to capture pollutant characteristics, and a detailed-classification technology variable. We applied a unique data set from a national pollution source census for the model simulation. The major findings include the following: (l) Wastewater treatment costs in the paper industry are determined by scale, technology, degree of treatment, ownership, and regional factors; (2) Wastewater treatment costs show a large decreasing scale effect; (3) The current level of pollutant discharge fees is far lower than the marginal treatment costs for meeting the wastewater discharge standard. Key implications are as follows: (l) Cost characteristics and impact factors should be fully recognized when planning or making policies relating to wastewater treatment projects or technology development; (2) There is potential to reduce treatment costs by centralizing wastewater treatment via industrial parks; (3) Wastewater discharge fee rates should be increased; (4) Energy efficient technology should become the future focus of wastewater treatment. Between 2014 and 2018, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration conducted the NOAA Satellite Observing System Architecture (NSOSA) study to plan for the next generation of operational environmental satellites. The study generated some important questions that could be addressed by observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs). This paper describes a series of OSSEs in which benefits to numerical weather prediction from existing observing systems are combined with enhancements from potential future capabilities. Assessments include the relative value of the quantity of different types of thermodynamic soundings for global numerical weather applications. We compare the relative impact of several sounding configuration scenarios for infrared (IR), microwave (MW), and radio occultation (RO) observing capabilities. The main results are 1) increasing the revisit rate for satellite radiance soundings produces the largest benefits but at a significant cost by requiring an increase in the number of polar-orbiting satellites from 2 to 12; 2) a large positive impact is found when the number of RO soundings per day is increased well beyond current values and other observations are held at current levels of performance; 3) RO can be used as a mitigation strategy for lower MW/IR sounding revisit rates, particularly in the tropics; and 4) smaller benefits result from increasing the horizontal resolution along the track of the satellites of MW/IR satellite radiances. Furthermore, disaggregating IR and MW instruments into six evenly distributed sun-synchronous orbits is slightly more beneficial than when the same instruments are combined and collocated on three separate orbits. Abstract: In this paper, we address some computational challenges arising in complex simulation-based design optimization problems. High computational cost, black-box formulation and stochasticity are some of the challenges related to optimization of design problems involving the simulation of complex mathematical models. Solving becomes even more challenging in case of multiple conflicting objectives that must be optimized simultaneously. In such cases, application of multiobjective optimization methods is necessary in order to gain an understanding of which design offers the best possible trade-off. We apply a three-stage solution process to meet the challenges mentioned above. As our case study, we consider the integrated design and control problem in paper mill design where the aim is to decrease the investment cost and enhance the quality of paper on the design level and, at the same time, guarantee the smooth performance of the production system on the operational level. In the first stage of the three-stage solution process, a set of solutions involving different trade-offs is generated with a method suited for computationally expensive multiobjective optimization problems using parallel computing. Then, based on the generated solutions an approximation method is applied to create a computationally inexpensive surrogate problem for the design problem and the surrogate problem is solved in the second stage with an interactive multiobjective optimization method. This stage involves a decision maker and her/his preferences to find the most preferred solution to the surrogate problem. This paper aims to investigate the impact of moisture on mechanical properties of insulation paper. According to the molecular modeling approach proposed by Theodorou, the amorphous cellulose models of insulation paper with different moisture contents were built up to calculate mechanical parameters and hydrogen bond networks. And relevant conclusions could be drawn through further analysis on these calculation results: water molecules can destroy hydrogen bond network between the neighboring cellulose molecules, which might be responsible for the significant decrease of Young's modulus and other mechanical parameters, while no appreciable effect of intramolecular hydrogen bonds on mechanical properties was detected. Thus tensile tests were also carried out to study the moisture influence on the Young's modulus, by which the result of the simulation was approved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, polysiloxane is used to modify insulation paper cellulose, and molecular dynamics methods are used to evaluate the glass transition temperature and mechanical properties of the paper before and after the modification. Analysis of the static mechanical performance of the model shows that, with increasing temperature, the elastic modulus of both the modified and unmodified cellulose models decreases gradually. However, the elastic modulus of the modified model is greater than that of the unmodified model. Using the specific volume method and calculation of the mean square displacement of the models, the glass transition temperature of the modified cellulose model is found to be 48 K higher than that of the unmodified model. Finally, the changes in the mechanical properties and glass transition temperature of the model are analyzed by energy and free volume theory. The glass transition temperatures of the unmodified and modified cellulose models are approximately 400 K and 450 K, respectively. These results are consistent with the conclusions obtained from the specific volume method and the calculation of the mean square displacement. Understanding the effects of water absorption on the geometry of a paper sheet is important for inkjet printing applications, since internal moisture content differences may cause unacceptable out-of-plane deformations. The present work focuses on moisture-induced deformations due to a moisture content that is uniform over the thickness of the sheet. Large enough in-plane differences will cause the sheet to buckle, leading to a wavy pattern at the edges of the sheet. Two approaches are utilized to study this for levels of moisture content up to and including the threshold for buckling. An analytical approach, based on geometrically nonlinear plate theory (von Kármán theory), and a numerical one, using commercially available finite element software, are presented. As a first reference problem an isotropic circular plate, wetted uniformly at its center, is solved both analytically and numerically for the in-plane stress distribution, the buckling threshold, and the resulting buckling mode. Secondly, the same is done for an orthotropic rectangular plate, wetted at its edges. Here, in the analytical approach a Rayleigh–Ritz analysis is employed to approximate the buckling threshold. Quantifying the impact of a scholarly paper is of great significance, yet the effect of geographical distance of cited papers has not been explored. In this paper, we examine 30,596 papers published in Physical Review C, and identify the relationship between citations and geographical distances between author affiliations. Subsequently, a relative citation weight is applied to assess the impact of a scholarly paper. A higher-order weighted quantum PageRank algorithm is also developed to address the behavior of multiple step citation flow. Capturing the citation dynamics with higher-order dependencies reveals the actual impact of papers, including necessary self-citations that are sometimes excluded in prior studies. In pulp and paper the modelling and simulation of the pulp production processes was the first major application. Since then several other applications have been realised though papermaking has never been on the lead concerning the use of computer-based modelling and simulation. The complex nature of the materials is one of the most demanding challenges and the biggest hurdle for any electronic description of the papermaking process or paper itself. So other industries took the lead and it is now for the paper industry to learn from these industries what can be done with the help of computers to control or optimise processes or to design new grades. The application of results gained with the use of modelling and simulation techniques in pulp and paper manufacturing processes has helped the industry to, for example, reduce emissions and increase the productivity and cost-efficiency of the processes. Still there are many important tasks open. A better understanding of the mechanisms of the processes and their control loops has to be achieved in order to further improve the paper quality, stabilise the wet-end chemistry, and enhance the runnability. Important features to be developed are new process designs, efficient process monitoring and systems that offer decision support during operation. Abstract: Compared to traditional steel metering blades commonly used in paper coating operations, ‘soft-tip’ metering blades have received considerably less attention. The research presented herein concerns computationally detailing the characteristics of deformation and deflection in soft-tipped blades under the influence of coating colour flow. Multiphysics simulations were conducted to assess the interrelationships between deflection, deformation, blade length and material properties. Localised plastic deformation in the soft-tip material may be manipulated by adjusting the material properties and geometries of the tip material alongside variables such as; the free blade length, the speed and the properties of the incoming coating. Design of soft-tip materials with respect to these factors may make it easier to achieve a desired blade tip and hence, coating characteristic. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

This paper presents a model for determining the availability of continuous systems at open pits using the neuro-fuzzy system. The concept of availability is divided into partial indicators (synthetic indicators and sub-indicators). The presented model in relation to already existing models for determining availability uses a combination of the advantages of artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic. The case study addressed the I ECC (bucket wheel excavator–conveyors–crushing plant) system of the open pit Drmno, Kostolac. In this paper, in addition to the ANFIS model for determining the availability of continuous systems, a simulation model was developed. The obtained results of the ANFIS model were verified with the help of a simulation model that uses certain assumptions about the distribution of failures. This paper was created as a result of several years of field and theoretical research into the availability of continuous systems in open pits, and completes a cycle that consists of several published articles on the subject of modeling the behavior of these systems in real time using a time picture of the state, expert assessment, simulation and AI models, while respecting the multidisciplinarity of the problem (mining technological, mechanical, and information technological aspects). The developed ANFIS model is a key instrument for improving operational efficiency and resource management in the mining sector. Its ability to accurately predict the availability of the ECC system brings not only operational benefits through reduced downtime and optimized maintenance, but also a potential reduction in overall costs at coal open pits. Most of the current research on opinion evolution models and their dynamic rules in the field of public opinion has overlooked offline networks, leading to an inadequate reflection of the actual process of opinion dissemination. To solve the above problem, this paper employed an online-offline social network mapping method to obtain the topology structure of the online-offline social networks. Then, it constructed an online-offline supernetwork model, integrating the information of the opinion event situation to form an opinion evolution simulation environment. Finally, it formulated the dynamic interaction rules for the online-offline supernetwork model using principles of communication theory, enabled the simulation of opinion dynamics. This paper applied the proposed model to analyze specific event instances, and the cosine similarity between the simulation results and the actual development of opinion events reached 0. 99, with an average difference of 1%. The experimental results show that the presented model achieves better simulation performance compared to other methods, validating the correctness and effectiveness of the online-offline supernetwork model and the opinion dynamical interaction rules. Gold tube thermal simulation experiments represent a pivotal tool in exploring hydrocarbon generation kinetics in hydrocarbon source rocks. Compared to other reaction systems, the reaction environment and the pyrolysis product composition within the gold tube display a greater resemblance to actual geological conditions, especially for coal-based hydrocarbon rocks with poor hydrocarbon removal capacity. The kerogen is in close contact with various pyrolysis products and reacts with each other in the gold tube. Researchers have carried out extensive research and application in hydrocarbon generation kinetics based on gold tubes in recent years. But a systematic and comprehensive summary of these studies is lacking. This paper provides a review of the kinetic study based on golden tubes in recent years from the perspectives of research objects, influencing factors, applications and problems. The main targets of hydrocarbon generation kinetics based on gold tubes include CH4, C1-5, C8+ and so on. Elucidating the kinetics of diverse pyrolysis products aids comprehension of the mechanism of organic matter pyrolysis. Reaction condition, minerals and organic structure all influence hydrocarbon production kinetics. Clarifying the effects of these influencing factors is of great importance in understanding the pyrolysis mechanism of hydrocarbon source rocks and pyrolysis research in the domain of hydrocarbons. Golden tube-based kinetic studies of hydrocarbon production have good potential application, not only in determining the hydrocarbon generation history of hydrocarbons in the study area, but also in studying the genesis, origin, and reservoir formation mode of natural gas. This paper also summarizes some problems and solutions of the gold tube hydrocarbon generation kinetics, such as the inhomogeneity of the samples, the difference between the gold tube system and natural conditions, and the determination of the time point of oil secondary cracking. Continuous optimization of the solution enhances the authenticity of the golden tube simulation experiment. This review aims to offer a theoretical foundation and research suggestions for investigating pyrolysis kinetics of hydrocarbon source rocks and hydrocarbons based on golden tubes. The grid connected inverter is the core component of the photovoltaic grid connected power generation system, which mainly converts the direct current of the photovoltaic matrix into alternating current that meets the grid connected requirements, playing a key role in the efficient and stable operation of the photovoltaic grid connected power generation system.This paper uses fuzzy PI control model which to improve the performance of intelligent photovoltaic grid-connected inverter to simulate the intelligent photovoltaic inverter system, using mathematical analysis and reasoning methods for model analysis,adopts two-stage three-phase LCL grid-connected inverter, establishes mathematical models in two-phase synchronous rotating and two-phase static coordinate systems, and adopts an active damping strategy based on grid-connected current. Based on existing research and empirical analysis,aiming at the disadvantage of poor dynamic response of repetitive control, an improved repetitive control strategy is adopted, and the controller is analyzed from two aspects of stability and dynamic performance, and the simulation model of photovoltaic grid-connected power generation system is built. The global navigation satellite system radio occultation (GNSS-RO) is an important means of space-based meteorological observation. It is necessary to test the Global Navigation Satellite System Occultation signal receiver on the ground before the deployment of space-based occultation detection systems. The current approach of testing the GNSS signal receiver on the ground is mainly the mountaintop-based testing approach, which has problems such as high cost and large simulation error. In order to overcome the limitations of the mountaintop-based test approach, this paper proposes an accurate, repeatable, and controllable GNSS atmospheric occultation simulation system and builds a load performance evaluation approach based on the ground-based GNSS atmospheric occultation simulation system on the basis of it. The GNSS atmospheric occultation simulation system consists of the visualization and interaction module, the GNSS-RO simulation signal generation module, the GNSS-RO simulator module, the GNSS-RO signal receiver module, and the GNSS-RO inversion and evaluation module, combined with the preset atmospheric model to generate GNSS-RO simulation signals with a high degree of simulation, and comparing the atmospheric parameters of the inversion performance of the GNSS-RO signal receiver with the parameters of the preset atmospheric model to obtain the error data. The overall performance of the GNSS-RO signal receiver can be evaluated based on the error information. The novel approach to evaluate the GNSS-RO signal receiver performance proposed in this paper is validated by using the FY-3E (FengYun-3E) receiver qualification parts that have been verified in orbit, and the results confirm that the approach can meet the requirements of the GNSS-RO receiver performance test. This study shows that the novel approach to evaluate the GNSS-RO signal receiver performance in terms of the ground-based atmospheric occultation simulation system can efficiently and accurately be used to carry out the receiver test and provides an effective solution for the ground-based test of GNSS-RO signal receivers. With the rapid development of information technology, third-party platforms have emerged and become the important channels to promote collaborations among manufacturing enterprises. Under this background, this paper focuses on a third-party platform whose multilateral users are manufacturers, suppliers, and logistics providers. There exist various cross-side network effects (i.e., CNEs) and same-side network effects (i.e., SNEs) among users (including manufacturers, suppliers, and logistics providers) at different development stages of the platform, which may affect the multi-value chain collaboration of users positively or negatively. By building a system dynamics model, this paper examines the interactions of the network effects and analyzes their impacts on the multi-value chain collaboration and platform's revenues. Then, the key factors that affect the network effect interactions are explored. The results show that the network effect interactions are significant in the early development stage of the platform. The growth of the SNEs of suppliers and logistics providers has significant impacts on their own CNEs and profits. Interestingly, the increase of manufacturers' SNEs can affect the CNEs of their own and suppliers simultaneously, which may decrease the profits of other participants but does not change their own profits. Affected by multiple network effects, the platform needs to implement a differentiated pricing strategy for its users. That is, the platform should charge suppliers and logistics providers access fee while giving manufacturers a certain subsidy. With the advancement of IT technology, intelligent devices such as autonomous vehicles, unmanned equipment, and drones are rapidly evolving. Consequently, the proliferation of defense systems based on these technologies is increasing worldwide. In response, the U.S. Department of Defense is implementing the RMF (Risk Management Framework) to ensure the cybersecurity of defense systems and conducting cybersecurity T&E (test and evaluation) concurrently. However, RMF and cybersecurity T&E conducted during the acquisition phase of defense systems often result in fragmented cybersecurity assessments, excluding the operational environment of the defense systems. This omission fails to account for the complex network integration, data exchange functionalities, and mission-specific requirements in actual cyber attack scenarios. For these reasons, vulnerabilities in defense systems that remain unidentified during the acquisition phase can potentially pose significant cybersecurity threats during operational phases, necessitating substantial costs and efforts for remediation. Therefore, this paper proposes a mission-based cybersecurity T&E model using a Multi-Cyber Range to effectively apply these two systems in a practical manner. The Multi-Cyber Range integrates independently operated cyber ranges into a network to expand the evaluation environment, which better reflects the mission environment of defense systems. The proposed model's effectiveness is validated using a cyber attack simulation system targeting a virtualized arbitrary defense system. This paper not only presents an enhanced model for mission-based cybersecurity T&E, but also contributes to the advancement of cybersecurity T&E methodologies by providing a concrete application process. We consider a two-dimensional model of three species in rock-paper-scissors competition and study the self-organisation of the population into fascinating spiraling patterns. Within our individual-based metapopulation formulation, the population composition changes due to cyclic dominance (dominance-removal and dominance-replacement), mutations, and pair-exchange of neighboring individuals. Here, we study the influence of mobility on the emerging patterns and investigate when the pair-exchange rate is responsible for spiral waves to become elusive in stochastic lattice simulations. In particular, we show that the spiral waves predicted by the system's deterministic partial equations are found in lattice simulations only within a finite range of the mobility rate. We also report that in the absence of mutations and dominance-replacement, the resulting spiraling patterns are subject to convective instability and far-field breakup at low mobility rate. Cellulose partially converted to dialcohol cellulose has been identified as a potential breakthrough material for the production of bio-based, complex, double-curved surfaces due to its extensive strain-at-break characteristics (reaching as great as 80% in tensile loading). Tensile testing of handsheets made from modified cellulose fibers was conducted from 50 to 90% relative humidity (RH) and from 23 to 150 °C. Strain-at-break of the handsheets ranged from 35 to 80% over this humidity and temperature range, which is significantly greater than typical cellulose-based materials. The combined effect of moisture and temperature was further investigated by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, which was utilized to determine the glass-transition temperature of the handsheets as a function of relative humidity. Based on the tensile test results and verified by the three-dimensional (3-D) forming and simulation, a forming limit diagram (strain-based failure surface which describes and illustrates the formability of the material) for the handsheets was generated. This forming limit illustrates significant extent to which this bio-based material can be 3-D formed into advanced structures. The increasing costs associated with water supply and the disposal of wastewater has stimulated industries to seek more efficient water management systems. Mathematical modelling and simulation can be a very valuable tool for the study of the multiple alternatives available whilst assessing optimum solutions for water management in industry. This study introduces a new steady state model library able to reproduce industrial water circuits. It has been implemented in a novel software framework for the representation, simulation and optimization of industrial water networks. A water circuit representing a paper mill has been modelled and simulated showing the capability to reproduce real case studies. Aim of this study was to simulate the water sensitive paper (WSP) behavior for estimate the unitary spray deposition on the target at varying spray features and target coverage. WSP images were produced assuming some simplifying hypotheses: spherical drops and circular stains randomly placed on the images. Sprays were described in terms of probability distribution function (PDF) of drop size (log-normal and Rosin-Rammler), coefficient of variation of diameters (CV), arithmetic mean diameter (AMD), and volume median diameter (VMD). The results from the simulations showed that the overlap between stains was independent of spray features: when the percentage of covered surface of WSP images ranged from 4.7% up to 61.6%, the overlap between stains ranged from 0.3% up to 33.4%. On the contrary, unitary deposit (volume per square centimeter, L\cm2) and particle density (number of distinct partice per square centimeter, particles/cm2) could be obtained from the percentage of covered surface if CV, AMD, VMD and PDF were known. This paper proposed a simulation method for the charge transport in single-layer oil-paper insulation. The method of transient upstream finite-element method (FEM) is derived in order to calculate the time variation of charge densities in medium. The numerical simulation of charge transport in the single-layer oil-paper insulation is realized by applying the transient upstream FEM to the transport equations of bipolar charges. With reasonable microparameter, the charge transport in an experimental object is simulated. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental data. A bent model of oil-paper insulation is analyzed to study the charge distribution under the actual condition. A three-dimensional model of the steam ejector heat pump for the dryer section of the paper machine was developed by applying the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique, which provided the pressure and velocity distributions of fluid flow in heat pump. The results indicated that the fluid velocity field in heat pump has an incomplete axially symmetrical distribution. The entrainment ratio of the heat pump initially increases rapidly with the increase of the ejected steam inlet pressure and then decreases after the inlet pressure exceeds one certain value. There exists a critical value for the mixed fluid pressure under the given operating conditions. The optimal ratio of the diameter of constant area mixing section to the steam nozzle throat diameter is about 3.4 and the optimal ratio of length to diameter of constant area mixing section L/D m is 6. An optimal divergence angle of diffuser was observed under different diffuser length. There is an optimized steam nozzle position under the given operating condition where the maximum of entrainment ratio was observed. The CFD technique is found to be an efficient alternative to predict the ejector performance and the conclusions of the research can provide a beneficial reference for structural optimization design of ejector. With the rapid development of biometric technology, an increasing number of application scenarios require biometric identification systems for identity authentication, such as cell phones, gate control, and banks. The performance and operational efficiency of bioidentification systems directly impact their effectiveness in application scenarios. Traditional bioidentification technology requires a large number of devices and sites to build bioidentification systems. Bioidentification simulation model technology based on lightweight containers can simulate bioidentification systems in different scenarios through virtualization technology, which can save hardware costs while enabling efficient testing and debugging. In this context, improving the operational efficiency of bioidentification simulation models has become an important research direction. In this paper, efficient scheduling technology for a bioidentification simulation model based on lightweight containers is investigated to explore how to use container technology to improve the operational efficiency and security of the bioidentification simulation model to better serve modern bioidentification applications. For a 4-core 4G light load, the results show that the response time based on the resource scheduling strategy was 30 ms and the throughput was 30 requests per second; in contrast, the response time based on the load scheduling strategy was 45 ms, and the throughput was 27 requests per second. The system performance with the resource scheduling strategy under the same load with identical containers was significantly better than that under the load scheduling strategy. By using lightweight container technology, the operational efficiency of the bioidentification simulation model can be effectively improved while also improving the security of the system. Reference stations constitute important elements within the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) infrastructure, as they provide valuable measurements for performance monitoring. For high-quality measurements from such stations, local error sources should be properly characterized and compensated for or minimized. Multipath remains a major contributor to these errors. In severe occurrences, multipath can cause critical errors in sensitive systems such as those utilized for code-dependent applications. This paper discusses a method for GNSS multipath characterization in challenging installation scenarios, based on a dual-polarization antenna and its integration in a hybrid measurement-simulation framework. A dedicated dual-polarized probe, which houses both an effective geodetic antenna and a multipath-susceptible antenna, was designed, manufactured, and assessed. The dual-sensing nature of the probe allows auxiliary information to be acquired about multipath generated by nearby objects and can be used to infer a plausible range of expected multipath-induced code error at a GNSS sensor station. In addition, a ray-tracing method is discussed, in which antenna measurements are integrated into digital-twin simulations of installations for characterizing multipath conditions. Finally, this study demonstrates that by combining the DPA with digital-twin simulations, it is possible to predict multipath error bounds at an installation in advance. This combined technique presents a flexible tool that is useful for planning system performance with respect to multipath, site layout/selection, and even optimal receiving antenna placement at a given installation. The proposed simulative method is validated through field experiments, and tests with commercial geodetic-grade antennas are presented to confirm the capability of this method to predict their performance ranges. A chemo-mechanical model is developed to investigate the effects on the stress development of the coating of polycrystalline Ni-rich LiNixMnyCozO2 (x ⩾ 0.8) (NMC) particles with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). The simulation results show that the coating of primary NMC particles significantly reduces the stress generation by efficiently accommodating the volume change associated with the lithium diffusion, and the coating layer plays roles both as a cushion against the volume change and a channel for the lithium transport, promoting the lithium distribution across the secondary particles more homogeneously. Besides, the lower stiffness, higher ionic conductivity, and larger thickness of the coating layer improve the stress mitigation. This paper provides a mathematical framework for calculating the chemo-mechanical responses of anisotropic electrode materials and fundamental insights into how the coating of NMC active particles mitigates stress levels. Software process simulation models (SPSMs) that are based on descriptive process models offer the executability that can demonstrate dynamic changes of software processes over time. Verification and validation (V&V) is critical in SPSMs for guaranteeing the quality and reliability of models. V&V of dynamic software process models is more complex and challenging than for static software process models. This work systematically summarizes and maps V&V studies in SPSM to provide guidelines for future research and practice. Specifically, this study aims at identifying the focus of research on V&V, the methods used for V&V, and how to implement V&V of SPSMs in software engineering research. We conducted a systematic mapping study on studies of SPSMs that report on their V&V activities. Under the guidance of a V&V meta‐model for SPSMs, we study four research questions about V&V process. We identified 107 primary studies from a pool of 313 papers on SPSMs until 2021. There are two main results of our study. The first one presents the relationship between quality aspects of SPSMs and the V&V methods to assure them. The second result reveals the relationships among the modeling process, three modeling steps, five quality aspects, and 10 V&V methods. Generally, researchers do not pay sufficient attention to V&V, as 65.8% ((313−107)/313) failed to mention or elaborate on their V&V process. This paper presents a simulation model for a preemptive transportation system where vehicles can have tasks dynamically reassigned to optimize overall efficiency. The model, built using Flexsim software, includes 9 storage areas and 8 vehicles. Exponential distributions, validated with real logistics warehouse data, generate stochastic task arrivals. Recursive logic implements the preemption algorithm. Comparative analysis over a 10-hour duration shows that the preemptive mode increases average transport volume by 13 % and reduces vehicle travel distance by 13 % compared to a non-preemptive baseline. This paper constructs a data-driven demand purchasing confidence rule-based model based on the theory of evidential reasoning to address the problem of purchasing decision bias in which the decision maker anchors the prior demand. First, we apply a synthetic algorithm to reason about the confidence structure distribution of the purchasing decision and then iteratively optimize the purchasing quantity according to the confidence structure distribution to minimize the cost loss function. Finally, we choose the average cost loss and service level value as the evaluation indexes to explore the purchasing confidence rule model. The simulation shows that compared with the expected purchasing decision based on the stochastic cumulative distribution function, the decision based on the confidence structure distribution can reduce the purchasing decision bias, manifested in the lower mean cost loss and a higher mean value of service level. The increasing availability of real-time data collected from dynamic systems brings opportunities for simulation models to be calibrated online for improving the accuracy of simulation-based studies. Systematical methods are needed for assimilating real-time measurement data into simulation models. This paper presents a particle filter-based data assimilation method to support online model calibration in discrete event simulation. A joint state-parameter estimation problem is defined, and a particle filter-based data assimilation algorithm is presented. The developed method is applied to a discrete event simulation of a one-way traffic control system. Experiments results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed method for calibrating simulation models' parameters in real time and for improving data assimilation results. This paper proposes an efficient method for quantifying the stratigraphic uncertainties and modeling the geological formations based on boreholes. Two Markov chains are used to describe the soil transitions along different directions, and the transition probability matrices (TPMs) of the Markov chains are analytically expressed by copulas. This copula expression is efficient since it can represent a large TPM by a few unknown parameters. Due to the analytical expression of the TPMs, the likelihood function of the Markov chain model is given in an explicit form. The estimation of the TPMs is then re-casted as a multi-objective constrained optimization problem that aims to maximize the likelihoods of two independent Markov chains subject to a set of parameter constraints. Unlike the method which determines the TPMs by counting the number of transitions between soil types, the proposed method is more statistically sound. Moreover, a random path sampling method is presented to avoid the directional effect problem in simulations. The soil type at a location is inferred from its nearest known neighbors along the cardinal directions. A general form of the conditional probability, based on Pickard's theorem and Bayes rule, is presented for the soil type generation. The proposed stratigraphic characterization and simulation method is applied to real borehole data collected from a construction site in Wuhan, China. Active and semi-active suspensions for passenger cars traditionally enhance comfort through body control, and vehicle handling by reducing the tyre load variations induced by road irregularities. Active suspensions can also be designed to track a desired yaw rate profile through the control of the lateral load transfer distribution between the front and rear axles. This paper considers an integrated system including semi-active and active suspension actuation to control the yaw, roll, pitch and heave dynamics excited by the driving actions. To this purpose, two novel real-time-capable implicit nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) formulations, excluding and including cost function weight adaptation, are proposed and compared with the passive vehicle, and the controlled vehicle with two combinations of skyhook and active roll control, the first based on a pseudoinverse decoupling transformation for obtaining the damping force contributions, and the second using an inverse formulation. The algorithms are assessed through an experimentally validated simulation model, along manoeuvres corresponding to sub-limit and limit handling operation, to analyse the trade-off between body motion reduction and cornering response enhancement. Background and Objectives: Children undergoing airway management during general anesthesia may experience airway complications resulting in a rare but life‐threatening situation known as "Can't Intubate, Can't Oxygenate". This situation requires immediate recognition, advanced airway management, and ultimately emergency front‐of‐neck access. The absence of standardized procedures, lack of readily available equipment, inadequate knowledge, and training often lead to failed emergency front‐of‐neck access, resulting in catastrophic outcomes. In this narrative review, we examined the latest evidence on emergency front‐of‐neck access in children. Methods: A comprehensive literature was performed the use of emergency front‐of‐neck access (eFONA) in infants and children. Results: Eighty‐six papers were deemed relevant by abstract. Finally, eight studies regarding the eFONA technique and simulations in animal models were included. For all articles, their primary and secondary outcomes, their specific animal model, the experimental design, the target participants, and the equipment were reported. Conclusion: Based on the available evidence, we propose a general approach to the eFONA technique and a guide for implementing local protocols and training. Additionally, we introduce the application of innovative tools such as 3D models, ultrasound, and artificial intelligence, which can improve the precision, safety, and training of this rare but critical procedure. The economics of cloud computing result from amassing computation resources while being able to distribute workload in space and time. The backbone of this ability is virtualization, which abstracts the host hardware, sharing it through virtual machines. This means of interface is also a primary vehicle and target for attackers. The counter-measures to this threat consider the costs and benefits to the cloud's essential functions. Where the future development of the cloud is also considered, this competition between attackers and victims can be modeled in extended game theory. Yet, the attacker and victim costs and benefits, expressed as measures of expense and utility, necessary for game-theory methods are elusive. This paper establishes such a game as a predator–prey contest played out on a data-center environment. A set of contestant parameters are applied at the threshold of a viable model to the characteristic boundaries. Measurement of system health is extracted in relief with individual cost and benefit then contrasted to risk. In the simulation of two-phase flow dominated by surface tension, accurate surface tension modeling is beneficial to better reproduce and understand the mechanism of interphase flow. In this paper, based on an ISPH-FVM coupling framework, three different surface tension models are implemented and tested respectively, including the generally used continuum surface force (CSF) model, the continuous surface stress (CSS) model and the height function (HF) model. In the present ISPH-FVM coupling framework, the ISPH particle approximate interpolation technique combined with a volume fraction correction scheme is employed to ensure the volume conservation in the computational domain during the information transfer between particles and grids. Meanwhile, the three surface tension models are discretized and calculated by the volume fraction defined on the FVM grid. The volume fraction of the FVM grid is obtained by approximate interpolation of ISPH particles within the grid support domain. Several benchmark cases are tested to verify the performance of three surface tension models in the ISPH-FVM coupling method. The results show that the CSF model and CSS model have less spurious currents and better robustness than HF model under the present coupling method. Many enclosed public spaces with multiple destinations often feature obstacles, such as columns within the building space and dense crowds, which adversely affect the recognition and guidance of pedestrian sign. To mitigate this issue, enhancing traffic efficiency necessitates the implementation of auxiliary guidance signs. However, experience-based schemes for positioning these signs often require iterative adjustments to achieve the desired effect. Thus, this paper endeavors to address this challenge by analyzing the relationship between obstacles and pedestrians' visual blind areas. It establishes a mathematical model to describe pedestrian visual perception and its correlation with crowd density and individual visual field function. The model employs the effective aggregation area of the population exceeding a certain density threshold as its primary variable and enhances this variable's function. Subsequently, it formulates an effect function that yields a substantial improvement in various combinations and permutations of auxiliary guidance signs. To exemplify this research, a large subway transfer hall with multiple destinations serves as a simulation model. The study calculates the optimal combination of auxiliary guidance sign placements that align with the enhancement effect function. Based on this combination, an optimized layout plan is derived, resulting in a significant improvement. The results demonstrate that the auxiliary guidance sign layout scheme proposed in this study markedly enhances traffic efficiency in enclosed public spaces. As one of the four major bay areas in the world, the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is a highly integrated mega urban agglomeration and its unparalleled urbanization has induced prominent land contradictions between humans and nature, which hinders its sustainability and has become the primary concern in this region. In this paper, we probed the historical characteristics of land use and land cover change (LUCC) in the GBA from 2005 to 2015, and forecasted its future land use pattern for 2030, 2050, and 2070, using a cellular automata–Markov (CA–Markov) model, under three typical tailored scenarios, i.e., urban development (UD), cropland protection (CP), and ecology security (ES), for land use optimization. The major findings are as follows: (1) The encroachments of build-up land on the other land uses under rapid urbanization accounted for the leading forces of LUCCs in the past decade. Accordingly, the urban sprawl was up to 1441.73 km2 (23.47%), with cropland, forest land, and water areas reduced by 570.77 km2 (4.38%), 526.05 km2 (1.76%), and 429.89 km2 (10.88%), respectively. (2) Based on the validated CA–Markov model, significant differences are found in future land use patterns under multiple scenarios, with the discrepancy magnified over time and driven by different orientations. (3) Through comprehensive comparisons and tradeoffs, the ES scenario mode seems optimal for the GBA in the next decades, which optimizes the balance between socio-economic development and ecological protection. These results serve as an early warning for future land problems and can be applied to land use management and policy formulation to promote the sustainable development of the GBA. The launcher recovery method known as 'In-Air Capturing' is an innovative approach where a winged rocket stage is captured mid-air by an aircraft and subsequently towed back to the launch site. To achieve this, a capturing device attached to a tether is released from the towing aircraft. This device autonomously connects the reusable launch vehicle to the aircraft, while the two vehicles are in proximity. The tether's flexible dynamics have a strong influence on the maneuverability of the capturing device. Thus, it is critical to model the dynamics of the tether to get a realistic understanding and to evaluate feasibility of the concept. However, precise modelling and control of highly flexible systems with large deformations is both challenging and computationally intensive. For engineering applications which involve closed-loop simulations, finding a trade-off between accuracy and computational effort is crucial. In this paper, the tether is modelled as a discretized chain of rigid bodies connected by rotational springs at the joints. The tether along with the capture system is integrated in a simulation model and open loop tests are performed to analyse the system characteristics. Inter-turn faults (ITFs) are one of the most common types of faults that affect the operation of induction motors. This paper presents an ABC frame-based model to simulate the induction motor with ITFs. The proposed model is capable of representing the induction motor in both health and faulty conditions considering the introduced unbalance by ITFs in the machine circuit. The performance of the proposed model is thoroughly investigated using a detailed simulation in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Different fault cases with a variety of motor loading conditions are considered and compared with the experimental results obtained from a specially wounded 3-phase induction motor. The simulation current response of the proposed model shows good correlation with the experimentally obtained response under the same conditions. This paper optimizes the assignment of shared automated vehicles under users' uncertain departure times. Automated vehicles can drive themselves, so no staff are needed to relocate vehicles in the one-way carsharing system. To optimize fleet placement and use, a twophase solution method was established. Phase 1 strategically distributes vehicles across stations using a system optimization approach, while Phase 2 tracks vehicle movements via an agent-based simulation model. Phase 1 solutions serve as inputs to Phase 2 simulations. Using a fleet size of roughly 10,000 vehicles, case study applications were run across the Austin, Texas region's six-county network. In the base case setting, results suggest that system profits are optimized when vehicle rental is priced at $1.28=km ($0.8=mi). The number of proactive vehicle relocations falls 9.8% if the relocation operation cost rises from $0.096=km ($0.06=mi) to $0.32=km ($0.2=mi). Average per-trip profit is $10.60 when using high-cost vehicles, and $11.60 when using low-cost vehicles. Results from a 3-h simulation show an average person-trip length of 25 km (15.6 mi), with 29.6 min of average driving time. When a 24-h day was simulated, the vehicle-occupied time and vehicle-distance traveled were 4 h and 200 km (125 mi) per vehicle-day, respectively. Emotion is a crucial factor which influences evacuation effects. However, the studies and quantitative analysis of evacuation emotions, including the emotion generated by external factors and internal personality or cognition levels, emotional contagion evolution, and the regulation mechanism of pedestrians to negative emotion, are still rare. In this paper, an evacuation model based on emotional cognition and contagion (EMECC) is presented. Firstly, individual's emotion is generated and quantified based on Lazarus's cognitive theory. Secondly, the emotional contagion between individuals is simulated by SIS (Susceptible Infected Susceptible) infectious disease model. Combining with cellular automata model, an emotion-driven moving rule is proposed to guide pedestrians move towards the directions with more positive individuals so that positive emotions can be spread effectively. Various experiments on model parameters, obstacles, and emotional contagion process are implemented to verify the effectiveness of the EMECC model. The simulation and experimental results show that emotional regulation mechanism can improve pedestrian's decision-making ability and contagion of positive emotion can accelerate evacuation process. Traffic on highways has increased significantly in the past few years. Consequently, this has caused delays for the drivers in reaching their final destination and increased the highway's congestion level. Many options have been proposed to ease these issues. In this paper, a model of the highway drivers' population was built based on several factors, including the behavioral patterns of the drivers, like drivers' time flexibility to reach the destination, their carpool eligibility, and their tolerance to pay the toll price, in addition to the traffic information from the system. A fuzzy logic decision-making model is presented to emulate how drivers would choose the lane to use based on the aforementioned factors and the current congestion levels of all the lanes on the highway. The presented model, along with the simulation results from applying the model to different simulation scenarios, show the usefulness of such a model in predicting an optimal toll value. In this study, a modified weakly compressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (WCSPH) mixture model was developed to more accurately simulate the interaction between waves and porous structures. In this model, we enhanced the governing equations of the traditional WCSPH mixture model by introducing Darcy velocity, apparent density, and an adjustable smoothing length. This refinement ensures that the modified model effectively maintains the conservation of fluid volume in seepage simulations. Additionally, this paper proposes a permeable interface treatment technique that replaces traditional smoothed particle hydrodynamics interpolation with finite element shape function interpolation, significantly enhancing computational efficiency. At the same time, we also introduced and revised a particle shifting technique, which further increases the computational precision of the model. The modified WCSPH mixture model was then applied to simulate several physical experiments, including the dam-break wave propagation in a permeable dam, the attenuation of solitary waves on a permeable riverbed, the propagation of the solitary wave on a submerged porous structure, and the breaking process of waves passing through permeable breakwaters. Through comparison with the experimental data and other numerical results, the current model was comprehensively verified from various aspects, such as fluid volume conservation, wave evolution in and around the porous structure, and pressure distribution characteristics.
