En 2016 el papa Francisco beatificó en la capital de Laos a un grupo de diecisiete mártires —sacerdotes, religiosos y laicos— que habían dado su vida por Cristo en aquellas tierras entre 1954 y 1970. Este libro da noticia de todos ellos. Eran misioneros y colaboradores de los Oblatos de María Inmaculada. Mario Borzaga, natural de Trento, había llegado a Laos en 1957, recién ordenado sacerdote. Fue martirizado poco después, en 1960, a sus 27 años. Escribió un precioso diario que da voz a su vocación de misionero oblato, que ofrecía su vida por amor a Jesucristo, e ilumina la peripecia martirial de aquel grupo de testigos del Evangelio del perdón y la paz. Su testimonio se une al de millones de mártires del siglo XX, que brillan como aurora de una mañana de Esperanza en la cerrada noche de unos tiempos atormentados, nada lejanos.

This book provides a thought-provoking analysis of the perception of China as a formidable threat amidst the current era of socio-political polarization and growing militarization. By exploring the discursive strategies and tactics employed to cultivate antagonism, it unveils the “culture of enmity” that fosters fear and distrust towards China, both in Taiwan and beyond. Drawing on interdisciplinary research, the book delves into the ontological characteristics of such a culture and provides insights into the Taiwan conflict as a crucial observation post for understanding the intricate discursive dynamics of the New Cold War. The geopolitical situation of Taiwan presents a predicament as it finds itself at the crossroads of two conflicting realms. On one hand, it is deeply intertwined with Chinese culture and history, with the added dimension of its strategic proximity to China at a time when the latter aspires to become a regional hegemon. On the other hand, Taiwan boasts a Western-influenced political system, Western-leaning strategic alliances, and a distinct political identity forged over the past few decades. It is within this intricate interplay of apparently dissonant but overlapping factors that the thorny and challenging nature of the discursive struggle for Taiwan becomes apparent. The book consists of a collection of articles initially created by the authors during their research in Taiwan over several years, first at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and then at National Cheng Kung University. The articles, organized into different chapters, cover various disciplines such as political philosophy, geopolitics, history, discourse analysis, and anthropology, reflecting the diverse educational backgrounds of the authors. Despite their diversity, all chapters are deeply connected to the discursive struggle over Taiwan. Ultimately, by offering a nuanced perspective that challenges prevailing narratives, the authors provide adeliberately controversial yet refreshing viewpoint that advocates for a policy of empathy and negotiation. Such approach goes beyond mere dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing the need for coexistence and peaceful living among different “worlds”.

Nadie sabe con certeza qué es la posmodernidad. ¿Una reescritura crítica y vitalista de la modernidad? ¿Una pérfida enmienda a la totalidad moderna o tan sólo un conflicto epistemológico? ¿Acaso el matrimonio definitivo entre estética y economía, entre producción, diseño y cultura? La posmodernidad significa la disolución del sueño moderno. La narrativa emancipatoria de las utopías del progreso y el saber universal se han descompuesto en innúmeras y flexibles invenciones imaginativas. La posmodernidad sabe asimismo que los contenidos son meras imágenes. Y que, consecuentemente, se ha producido un debilitamiento del principio de realidad. La posmodernidad se correspondería, pues, con la glorificación de los simulacros, las apariencias y los reflejos, con el reconocimiento de que el sentido del ser es, justamente, la disolución del principio de realidad en la multiplicidad de interpretaciones.

This volume contains the Proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, held June 11–15, 2012, in El Escorial, Madrid, Spain. Included in this volume is the written version of the mini-course given by Jonathan Bennett on Aspects of Multilinear Harmonic Analysis Related to Transversality. Also included, among other papers, is a paper by Emmanouil Milakis, Jill Pipher, and Tatiana Toro, which reflects and extends the ideas presented in the mini-course on Analysis on Non-smooth Domains delivered at the conference by Tatiana Toro. The topics of the contributed lectures cover a wide range of the field of Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations and illustrate the fruitful interplay between the two subfields.

This volume contains the Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, held in El Escorial, Madrid, Spain, on June 16–20, 2008. Featured in this book are papers by Steve Hoffmann and Carlos Kenig, which are based on two mini-courses given at the conference. These papers present topics of current interest, which assume minimal background from the reader, and represent state-of-the-art research in a useful way for young researchers. Other papers in this volume cover a range of fields in Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations and, in particular, illustrate well the fruitful interplay between these two fields.
