Abstract

This book, Teaching Learners with Visual Impairment, focuses on holistic support to learners with visual impairment in and beyond the classroom and school context. Special attention is given to classroom practice, learning support, curriculum differentiation and assessment practices, to mention but a few areas of focus covered in the book. In this manner, this book makes a significant contribution to the existing body of knowledge on the implementation of inclusive education policy with learners affected by visual impairment.

Abstract

Anna Barbara Orschulik untersucht in diesem Buch die Entwicklung der professionellen Unterrichtswahrnehmung bei angehenden Lehrkräften im Rahmen von Praxisphasen an der Universität Hamburg, da diese Kompetenz eine hohe Bedeutung für die Qualität von Unterricht und die Leistungen der Lernenden hat. Auf Grundlage einer videobasierten Erhebung wird dabei der Frage nachgegangen, inwiefern sich die professionelle Unterrichtswahrnehmung entwickelt und worauf die festgestellte Entwicklung zurückgeführt werden kann. Die AutorinAnna Barbara Orschulik ist Lehrerin für Geografie und Mathematik und ist seit 5 Jahren ebenfalls in der Lehrerbildung an der Universität Hamburg tätig. Im Rahmen dieser Tätigkeit promovierte sie im Bereich der Mathematikdidaktik bei Prof. Dr. Gabriele Kaiser.

Abstract

This edited volume is the sixth publication of the series'Rural areas: Issues of local and regional development'. It aims at intensifying scholarly exchange on topical questions of social, political, economic and landscape-related transformations of rural areas in Germany and Europe. Europe is a meaningful frame and research topic for rural geography. This edited volume assembles 14 contributions from various countries that shed light on the variety, as well as the differences and commonalities of rural regions in Europe. The volume aims at initiating general reflections about common development mechanisms and structures in the European context in contrast with specific national conditions and path dependencies. By assembling both regional and country case studies as well as cross-national comparisons, the anthology provides a sound basis for future European research in rural geography. It pleads for more cross-national and comparative approaches.

Abstract

The world we live in has been shaped by expertise. Yet experts were not born with power: they had to struggle to achieve their authority and legitimacy. Experts have framed economic development, the environment, energy, and infrastructure as “work in progress”, allowing them to put their specialist knowledge into practice. But who qualifies as the “right” expert for the job? Who decides how expertise is used, and to what ends? This book traces the changing contours of expert cultures, their global diffusion and local resistance. The contributors examine international organisations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Energy Council. They show how experts have tried to manage and navigate the competing demands of scientific knowledge, political power, and the public sphere throughout the last century. Amid the unfolding crises of democracy and climate change, this volume offers a timely, critical analysis of the power of experts and its limitations.
