Farkas Gábor számos kötetben foglalkozott már irodalomesztétikai, művelődéstörténeti, társadalomtudományos szempontból is a határon túli, köztük az erdélyi, moldvai, csángómagyar kultúrával, történelemmel, irodalommal. A legtöbb szakterületet átfogva igyekezett már eddig is feltárni és a moldvai, csángómagyar kultúrát teljes vertikumában elemezni, bemutatni: vagyis a nyelvi-nyelvészeti, historiográfiai, demográfiai, szociológiai, néprajzi, etnográfiai, nép- és magasművészeti, költészet- és lírakritikai, széptani szempontok egyidejű és sokoldalú alkalmazásával. Most e hányatott és sorvadó népcsoport főként egyház- és vallástörténeti, ekkléziasztikai és irodalomtörténeti hagyományainak az összefoglaló értelmezésére vállalkozik. Összmagyar nemzeti-önismereti és kultúrafenntartó törekvések szempontjából és érdekében is döntően fontos, hogy a magyarság eme szórványhelyzetbe taszított részéről, töredékéről minél autentikusabb képet kapjunk.
