Abstract

The article provides information on a study which showed that the frequency of compound dry and hot extremes has increased substantially, using over a century of ground-based observations over the contiguous U.S. Topics discussed include compounding effects of drought and hot temperatures, two mechanisms that can intensify drought-heatwave extremes due to land-atmosphere feedbacks, and temporal trends in precipitation and temperature over contiguous U.S. (CONUS).
