Abstract

The essay presents a critical examination into the influence of the devotional exercise of Lectio Divina within the epilogues of the late Medieval Anglo-Saxon poet Cynewulf. Details are given highlighting how the poetry of Cynewulf frequently expounded on spiritual topics in conceptually structured ways. Further topics addressed include the interpretive process in Medieval Christian poetics, the 7th century monastic poet Caedmon, and the major concepts framing the Lectio Divina process.
