Two-dimensional conductive metal-organic frameworks (2D CMOFs) can be regarded as high-performance electrode substances owing to their rich hierarchical porous architecture and excellent electrical conductivity. However, the sluggish kinetics behavior of electrodes within the bulk structure restricts their advances in energy storage fields. Herein, a series of graphene-based mixed-dimensional composite aerogels are achieved by incorporating the 2D M-tetrahydroxy-1,4-quinone (M-THQ) (M = Cu, Cu/Co, or Cu/Ni) into CNTs@rGO aerogel electrodes using a 3D-printing direct ink writing (DIW) technique. Benefiting from the high capacity of M-THQ and abundant porosity of the 3D-printed microlattice electrodes, an excellent capacitive performance of the M-THQ@CNTs@rGO cathodes is achieved based on the fast electron/ion transport. Furthermore, the 3D-printed lithium-ion hybrid supercapacitor (LIHCs) device assembled with Cu/Co-THQ@CNTs@rGO cathode and C60@VNNWs@rGO anode delivers a remarkable electrochemical performance. More importantly, this work manifests the practicability of printing 2D CMOFs electrodes, which provides a substantial research basis for 3D printing energy storage.

Sliding between two objects under very high load generally involves direct solid-solid contact at molecular/atomic level, the mechanism of which is far from clearly disclosed yet. Those microscopic solid-solid contacts could easily lead to local melting of rough surfaces. At extreme conditions, this local melting could propagate to the seizure and welding of the entire interface. Traditionally, the microscopic solid-solid contact is alleviated by various lubricants and additives based on their improved mechanical properties. In this work, we realized the state-of-the-art of extreme pressure lubrication by utilizing the high thermal diffusivity of liquid metal, 2 orders of magnitude higher than general organic lubricants. The extreme pressure lubrication property of gallium based liquid metal (GBLM) was compared with gear oil and poly-α-olefin in a four-ball test. The liquid metal lubricates very well at an extremely high load (10 kN, the maximum capability of a four-ball tester) at a rotation speed of 1800 rpm for a duration of several minutes, much better than traditional organic lubricants which typically break down within seconds at a load of a few kN. Our comparative experiments and analysis showed that this superextreme pressure lubrication capability of GBLM was attributed to the synergetic effect of the ultrafast heat dissipation of GBLM and the low friction coefficient of FeGa 3 tribo-film. The present work demonstrated a novel way of improving lubrication capability by enhancing the lubricant thermal properties, which might lead to mechanical systems with much higher reliability.

Forces acted on legs of water-walking arthropods with weights in dynes are of great interest for entomologist, physicists, and engineers. While their floating mechanism has been recognized, the in vivo leg forces stationary have not yet been simultaneously achieved. In this study, their elegant bright-edged leg shadows are used to make the tiny forces visible and measurable based on the updated Archimedes' principle. The force was approximately proportional to the shadow area with a resolution from nanonewton to piconewton/pixel. The sum of leg forces agreed well with the body weight measured with an accurate electronic balance, which verified updated Archimedes' principle at the arthropod level. The slight changes of vertical body weight focus position and the body pitch angle have also been revealed for the first time. The visualization of tiny force by shadow is cost-effective and very sensitive and could be used in many other applications.
