FACTS tools in modern power systems provide a vital solution to the problems of voltage deviation and fault ride-through (FRT) capability in electrical power systems especially during the integration of wind power. Many distinct journals highlight that the wind-driven squirrel cage generator (SCIG) still accounts for around 15% of operating wind generators so far. To enhance voltage stability and FRT capacity, this paper recommends a cost-effective static VAR compensator (SVC) which has a size rating of six MVAR, and this improves the efficiency of the electrical power system. Different events are considered in this study such as high turbulent wind speed, low turbulent wind speed, unsymmetrical faults, and symmetrical faults to validate the suggested option. Moreover, the suggested solution is compared with the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and a fixed capacitor to ensure that during the studied wind speed profiles and faults, voltage stability, reactive power consumption, and FRT capability are realized. An overall comparison among them is performed under all studied scenarios to summarize their benefits and impacts. The simulated results show the effectiveness and superiority of SVC in improving the operation of an integrated wind system based on a grid-linked SCIG and the performance of the power system. This paper proposes a new control strategy based on multimodel linear optimization control (MMLOC) to damp power system low-frequency oscillations (LFO) faster. The multimodel control strategy is used to anticipate synchronous generator dynamic behavior and linear optimization control for generating a control signal uncomplicatedly. The third-order model of synchronous machine is considered for each of the models. The probability of each model's validity is evaluated from the difference between model outputs and the same actual power system outputs via the Bayesian approach. To improve the postfault dynamics of the case study power system, which contains a static VAR compensator, a linear optimal controller (LOC) is designed. Voltage stability and line losses are inevitable issues even in modern power systems. There are several techniques that emerged to solve problems in the power system to provide quality and uninterrupted supply to customers. The algorithms used in this paper to determine the appropriate location and size of the Static Var Compensator (SVC) in the Distribution Network (DN) are Moth Flame Optimization (MFO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The objective function is defined to minimize voltage deviation and power loss. The burning problem of voltage stability improvement current scenario is because of a rise in electricity demands in all sectors. Paramount duties of power engineers are to keep the system stable and maintain voltage magnitude constant even during peak hours. The results were checked with the aid of MATLAB on Wolaita Sodo radial distribution of 34 bus data networks. The potential use of SVC is key to solve distribution system power quality issues and estimating the advantage of the installation. The results obtained from the test system were compared with PSO results. This comparison was done to know the computational time of proposed techniques. This paper constructs a reliable reactive power optimization (RPO) model of power grid with the controlled participation of high-penetration wind and solar energies and provides a novel fast atom search optimization (FASO) algorithm to reach a set of solutions to the RPO problem. The developed FASO algorithm owns prominent merits of high searching efficiency and premature convergence avoidance compared with the original atom search optimization (ASO) algorithm, which is applied to determine the optimal dispatch scheme including terminal voltage of generators, the capacity of static VAR compensator (SVC), reactive power output of wind and solar energies, and the tap ratio of transformers. There are two objective functions to be minimized for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of power grid, i.e., total power loss of transmission lines and total voltage deviation of nodes. Meanwhile, the regulation capacities of wind farms and photovoltaic (PV) stations are evaluated based on different weather conditions, i.e., wind speed and solar irradiation. Particularly, the reactive power outputs of wind and solar energies can be globally controlled to coordinate with other controllable units instead of a local self-control. Eventually, the extended IEEE 9-bus and IEEE 39-bus systems are introduced to test the performance of the FASO algorithm for RPO problem. It has been verified that FASO can not only meet the optimal regulation requirements of RPO but also obtain high-quality regulation schemes with the fastest convergence speed and highest convergence stability in contrast with else algorithms. An extensible configuration is proposed for static var generator (SVG) with advanced controller included for reactive power compensation of grid. Compared with the traditional configurations, the major advantage of such system configuration is that the power modules are very flexible and easy to extend or reduce without changing the main equipment of SVG under the different voltage levels. Furthermore, in order to solve the problems of modeling uncertainty, nonlinearities, and outside disturbance by using proportion integration (PI) controller, an advanced controller is proposed based on auto disturbance rejection control (ADRC). By controlling the amount and direction of reactive current, the reactive power is generated or absorbed from SVG into power grid with fast response, which can realize the excellent dynamic compensation for both the internal and external interferences. Simulations results show that the proposed controller has better performance of the transient and steady state than PI controller. Moreover, the verification tests are executed in 380 V, 6.5 kVA experiment systems, suggesting that the excellent dynamic performance and strong robustness are achieved. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
