China's coal industry has long faced challenges due to imbalance between supply and demand divisions and the discrepancies between supply and demand prices. Research on optimizing coal transfer amid fluctuating coal prices is crucial for enhancing coal resource allocation, ensuring a balanced and stable supply of coal resources, and promoting the sustainable development of the coal industry. This paper focuses on optimizing coal transfer schemes within a comprehensive transportation system, considering fixed transportation routes and opening times of railroad transportation and waterway transportation, with road transportation serving as a supplementary network. A three-dimensional spatio-temporal network model is established to represent the spatial and temporal paths and transportation modes of coal logistics. The study uses the coal transportation network from Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi to East China as a case study, analyzing factors such as coal price fluctuation, transportation rates, and the ratio of self-produced to purchased coal at the production end via sensitivity analysis. The findings indicate that the proposed model can effectively guide transportation practices under the integrated production, transportation, and sales framework in the energy industry. Additionally, it shows that enterprises can achieve higher profits and maintain revenue and supply stability despite coal price fluctuations, aligning with the coal industry's transformation and development in the current context. Coal is one of the fundamental fossil energy supporting the world's economy. The synergistic development between efficient coal mining and ecological environment protection is the inevitable requirement for the preservation of global harmony. As the world's largest coal producer, China has conducted a strategic shift from east to west in terms of the exploitation of its energy resources, posing a serious threat to the fragile ecological environment of the western region. In particular, the surface subsidence caused by coal mining is the root of the ecological deteriotation and the destruction of ground structures. However, it is difficult to reveal the law of large-scale surface subsidence in western mining areas merely by conventional measurement methods such as leveling, on account of the high intensity of coal seam mining, the weakness of the lithology of overlying rock and the large thickness of wind-blown sand strata. In view of this, small baseline subset interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR) technology was used in this study to obtain the time series of surface vertical displacement during the whole mining process of the 2401 working face in the Yingpanhao coal mine, Inner Mongolia. Based on the deformation data, the dynamic evolution characteristics of surface subsidence under high intensity mining in the western mining area were analyzed exhaustively. It was found that the surface subsidence is characterized by an extensive coverage range (48.52 km2) with minimal ground settlement (250 mm) in the study area. Meanwhile, the boundary shape of the subsidence basin followed a "circular-parallelogram-trapezoid" changeable process and the coverage area of the basin experienced three stages: a linear increasing period, a temporary stagnation period, and a re-expansion period. Furthermore, there existed an abnormal uplift phenomenon on the east side of the open-off cut in the 2401 working face. Combined with the structure of overlying strata, this paper carried out a preliminary analysis on the reasons of the abovementioned phenomenon. In deep mines, a reasonable design of the widths of isolated coal pillars (ICPs) is critically important, particularly for hard-strata mines. This is because the frequent occurrence of mine seismicity (MS) and rockburst in deep mines often arises from the inappropriate widths of the remnant ICPs. To address this problem, this paper takes the ICP of Yingpanhao Coal Mine in Inner Mongolia in China as the engineering case study and then presents a mechanical model to illuminate the occurrence mechanism of MS induced by the mining on both sides of ICPs. The results indicate that, after the mining on both sides of ICPs, the ICPs will produce a vertical compressive deformation, and the overlying high main key stratum (MKS) will experience a flexure deformation. When the limited deflection of MKS is less than the compression of ICPs, the MKS will be fractured, and the released energy may lead to MS. Based on the mechanism model, a design criterion is proposed for ICP widths; this criterion can effectively reduce the risk of the induced rockburst and MS. Then the occurrence mechanism of MS and the design basis for ICP width are verified by numerical simulation and field microseismic monitoring. The results in this paper may be used as a theoretical guidance for rational ICP design in deep mines and may help mitigate the risk of rockburst and MS from early mining stages. Coal is an important energy resource in the world, especially in China. Extensive coal exploitation seriously damaged the grassland and its fragile ecosystem. However, temporal and spatial impact laws of open-pit coal exploitation on Landscape Ecological Health (LEH) of semi-arid grasslands are still not clear. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to study impact of Large-scale Open-pit Coal Base (LOCB) on the LEH of semi-arid grasslands from the perspectives of temporal and spatial. Taking Shengli LOCB of Xilinguole grassland in Inner Mongolia as an example, we demonstrate a conceptual model of LOCB impact on LEH of semi-arid grasslands, and establish a research system called landscape Index-pattern Evolution-Driving force-Spatial statistics (IEDS). A complete process integrated from investigation, monitoring, and evaluation to the analysis of impact laws was developed. Result indicated that coal mining causes gradual increase of landscape patches, landscape fragmentation, gradual decline of landscape connectivity, complexity and irregularity of landscape shape, enhancement of landscape heterogeneity and complexity, gradual decline of landscape stability, gradual decrease of grassland landscape and annual increase of unhealthy grassland landscape. The LEH of grassland basically belongs to the state of slight deterioration. In the past 15 years, the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of LEH in the study area are similar. This study provides scientific reference for ecological disturbance research, environmental protection, landscape planning, restoration and renovation of ecological environment in mining areas. At the same time, future research should integrate geological, hydrological, soil, vegetation, microorganisms, animals, climate, and other perspectives to study the impact of mining on landscape ecology deeply. Coal seam impact risk assessment is the premise of coal mine safety, which can reduce the occurrence of underground impact pressure accidents and directly affect the safety, coal production, economic and social benefits of coal mining enterprises. In order to evaluate the impact risk of coal seams more reasonably and comprehensively, and consider the weights of different influencing factors on the impact risk of coal seams, the neural network model is proposed to evaluate the impact risk of coal seams. Mining depth, impact tendency, geological structure and mining technology are selected as the influencing factors of coal seam impact risk. Each influencing factor contains different evaluation indices, a total of 18. The 18 evaluation indices and the impact risk level are normalized and quantified. The BP neural network model for evaluating coal seam impact risk level is established, and the impact risk of 2-1 coal seams in a mine in Inner Mongolia is comprehensively evaluated and analyzed in this study. The results show that the BP neural network model can represent coal seam impact risk level well. The application of the BP neural network model to evaluate coal seam impact risk level has the characteristics of high precision, fast calculation speed and less artificial calculation, which provides an efficient and convenient method for the evaluation of coal seam impact risk. The dry roll-type electrostatic coal beneficiation technology under high voltage is used to study the beneficiation of low-grade and high-ash coal in Inner Mongolia, northern China. The optimal coal beneficiation conditions are determined by adjusting three parameters: the electrode voltage, the distance between the electrode and the drum, and the angle θ of the electrode. The best quality clean coal is obtained under the condition of voltage of 30 kV, angle θ of 75°, and electrode distance of 7 cm. Moreover, after separation, the quality of clean coal accounted for 48.41% of the raw coal mass, while the ash ratio decreased from 38.6% of the raw coal to 18.71% of the clean coal, which significantly improves the coal usability. Finally, through the methods of combustion characteristics analysis, infrared spectrum analysis, and combustion exhaust gas analysis of raw and clean coal, it is proven that the roll-type electrostatic separation technology has a high coal beneficiation effect on the high-ash, low-grade coal in Inner Mongolia. Coal geochemistry compositional data on whole-coal basis can be converted back to ash basis based on samples' loss on ignition. However, the correlation between the concentrations of elements reported on whole-coal versus ash bases in many cases is inconsistent. Traditional statistical methods (e.g., correlation analysis) for compositional data on both bases may sometimes result in misleading results. To address this issue, we hereby propose an improved additive log-ratio data transformation method for analyzing the correlation between element concentrations reported on whole-coal versus ash bases. To verify the validity of the method proposed in this study, a data set which contains comprehensive analyses of 106 Late Paleozoic coal samples from the Datanhao mine and Adaohai Mine, Inner Mongolia, China, is used for the validity testing. A prediction model was built for performance evaluation of two methods based on the hierarchical clustering algorithm. The results show that the improved additive log-ratio is more effective in prediction for occurrence modes of elements in coal than the previously reported stability method, and therefore can be adopted for consistent interpretations of coal geochemistry compositional data on whole-coal vs. ash bases.
