Bloch oscillations (BOs) in a parity-time (PT)-symmetric Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) waveguide array are theoretically investigated. We show that the BOs are amplified or damped even for the systems to exhibit entirely real energy bands. The amplified and damped BOs stem from the complex Berry phase and closely relate to the topological properties of the lattice. For the topological nontrivial lattice, the amplification and attenuation of BOs are much more prominent than the trivial case and the output Bloch mode can be selected. Furthermore, we propose an experimental scheme and perform a numerical simulation based on a bent waveguide array. Our work uncovers the impact of the topological properties on the dynamics of the bulk Bloch modes and unveils a horizon in the study of non-Hermitian physics. The mode selection induced by the complex Berry phase may also find application in integrated photonic devices such as the mode filter.

In this work, we reported a systemic study on the enhanced efficiency of launching hyperbolic phonon polaritons (PhPs) in stacked α-phase molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO 3 ) flakes. By using the infrared photo-induced force microscopy (PiFM), real-space near-field images (PiFM images) of mechanically exfoliated α-MoO 3 thin flakes were recorded within three different Reststrahlen bands (RBs). As referred with PiFM fringes of the single flake, PiFM fringes of the stacked α-MoO 3 sample within the RB 2 and RB 3 are greatly improved with the enhancement factor (EF) up to 170%. By performing numerical simulations, it reveals that the general improvement in near-field PiFM fringes arises from the existence of a nanoscale thin dielectric spacer in the middle part between two stacked α-MoO 3 flakes. The nanogap acts as a nanoresonator for prompting the near-field coupling of hyperbolic PhPs supported by each flake in the stacked sample, contributing to the increase of polaritonic fields, and verifying the experimental observations Our findings could offer fundamental physical investigations into the effective excitation of PhPs and will be helpful for developing functional nanophotonic devices and circuits.

We investigate the electronic excitation of solids in strong fields by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The excitation probability exhibits a strong modulation as a function of laser intensity when the initial states fill in the whole valence band. To have a clear insight into the modulation, we further study the electronic excitation from a single eigenstate in solids. A series of resonance-like enhancements of excitation probability are produced by changing the laser intensity and wavelength. We attribute the resonance-like enhancements to the channel-closing effects in solids. It is shown that the excitation probability exhibits enhancements when the value of channel is odd for intracycle interference and an integer for intercycle interference. This is different from the atom that the enhancement occur in the integer channels. We also reveal that the channel-closing effects can be observed by solid high-order harmonic generation.

By numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, we theoretically investigate the dynamics of the low-energy photoelectrons ionized by a single attosecond pulse in the presence of an infrared laser field. The obtained photoelectron momentum distributions exhibit complicated interference structures. With the semiclassical model, the originations for the different types of the interference structures are unambiguously identified. Moreover, by changing the time delay between the attosecond pulse and the infrared laser field, these interferences could be selectively enhanced or suppressed. This enables us to extract information about the ionization dynamics encoded in the interference structures. As an example, we show that the phase of the electron wave-packets ionized by the linearly and circularly polarized attosecond pulses can be extracted from the interference structures of the direct and the near-forward rescattering electrons.

Here we investigate the Bloch oscillations (BOs) in a photonic spectral lattice created with four-wave mixing Bragg scattering (FWM-BS). By injecting a signal and two pumps with different frequencies into a silicon nitride waveguide, a spectral lattice can be created for the generated idlers through successive FWM-BS. The phase-mismatch during FWM-BS acts as an effective force that induces BOs in the spectral lattice. Both the oscillation period and amplitude are determined by the magnitude of the effective force. With cascaded FWM-BS processes, the spectrum of idlers experiences a directional shift as the phase differences of pumps are modulated. Additionally, introducing long-range couplings in the spectral lattice will change the trajectory of BOs within each period. The pattern of BOs for a single frequency input can also be tailored. This Letter provides a new platform to realize BOs in the frequency dimension and paves a promising way for broadband frequency control with all-optical schemes.

Strong-field photoelectron holography (SFPH), originating from the interference of the direct electron and the rescattering electron in tunneling ionization, is a significant tool for probing structure and electronic dynamics in molecules. We theoretically study SFPH by counter rotating two-color circularly (CRTC) polarized laser pulses. Different from the case of the linearly polarized laser field, where the holographic structure in the photoelectron momentum distribution (PEMD) is clustered around the laser polarization direction, in the CRTC laser fields, the tunneling ionized electrons could recollide with the parent ion from different angles and thus the photoelectron hologram appears in the whole plane of laser polarization. This property enables structural information delivered by the electrons scattering the molecule from different angles to be recorded in the two-dimensional photoelectron hologram. Moreover, the electrons tunneling at different laser cycles are streaked to different angles in the two-dimensional polarization plane. This property enables us to probe the sub-cycle electronic dynamics in molecules over a long time window with the multiple-cycle CRTC laser pulses.

An all-optical measurement of high-order fractional molecular echoes is demonstrated by using high-order harmonic generation (HHG). Excited by a pair of time-delayed short laser pulses, the signatures of full and high order fractional (1/2 and 1/3) alignment echoes are observed in the HHG signals measured from CO 2 molecules at various time delays of the probe pulse. By increasing the time delay of the pump pulses, much higher order fractional (1/4) alignment echo is also observed in N 2 O molecules. With an analytic model based on the impulsive approximation, the spatiotemporal dynamics of the echo process are retrieved from the experiment. Compared to the typical molecular alignment revivals, high-order fractional molecular echoes are demonstrated to dephase more rapidly, which will open a new route towards the ultrashort-time measurement. The proposed HHG method paves an efficient way for accessing the high-order fractional echoes in molecules.

Improving the optoelectronic characteristics of organic-inorganic perovskites is crucial for fabrication of functional devices. Herein, we demonstrate that the optoelectronic properties of 2D organic-inorganic perovskites can be greatly improved by UV-light illumination during growth. The photoluminescence emission of the 2D perovskite exhibits a 3.1-folds increase in intensity, with a decreased trap-assisted recombination. The improved optoelectronic characteristics can be attributed to the high-quality crystallization and lattice expansion induced by the UV-light illumination. Moreover, the optimized 2D perovskites enable the fabrication of photoconductive devices with improved optoelectronic responses. This work indicates that light illumination is a novel and convenient approach for engineering the fabrication of 2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites, which advocates great promise for achieving high-performance functional devices.

We theoretically investigated frustrated tunneling ionization (FTI) in the interaction of atoms with elliptically polarized laser pulses by a semiclassical ensemble model. Our results show that the yield of frustrated tunneling ionization events exhibits an anomalous behavior which maximizes at the nonzero ellipticity. By tracing back the initial tunneling coordinates, we show that this anomalous behavior is due to the fact that the initial transverse velocity at tunneling of the FTI events is nonzero in the linear laser pulses and it moves across zero as the ellipticity increases. The FTI yield maximizes at the ellipticity when the initial transverse momentum for being trapped is zero. Moreover, the angular momentum distribution of the FTI events and its ellipticity dependence are also explored. The anomalous behavior revealed in our work is very similar to the previously observed ellipticity dependence of the near- and below-threshold harmonics, and thus our work may uncover the mechanism of the below-threshold harmonics which is still a controversial issue.
