Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Jianpi Jieyu Decoction (JJD) for treating patients with mild-to-moderate depression of Xin (Heart)-Pi (Spleen) deficiency (XPD) syndrome. Methods: In this multi-center, randomized, controlled study, 140 patients with mild-to-moderate depression of XPD syndrome were included from Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Botou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2017 to December 2019. They were randomly divided into JJD group and paroxetine group by using a random number table, with 70 cases in each group. The patients in the JJD group were given JJD one dose per day (twice daily at morning and evening, 100 mL each time), and the patients in the paroxetine group were given paroxetine (10 mg/d in week 1; 20 mg/d in weeks 2–6), both orally administration for a total of 6 weeks. The primary outcome was the change of 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) score at week 6 from baseline. The secondary outcomes included the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) score, Traditional Chinese Medicine Symptom Scale (TCMSS), and Clinlcal Global Impression (CGI) scores at the 2nd, 4th, and 6th weekends of treatment, HAMD-17 response (defined as a reduction in score of >50%) and HAMD-17 remission (defined as a score of ⩽7) at the end of the 6th week of treatment. Adverse events (AEs) were also recorded. Results: From baseline to week 6, the HAMD-17 scores decreased 10.2 ± 4.0 and 9.1 ± 4.9 points in the JJD and paroxetine groups, respectively (P=0.689). The HAMD-17 response occurred in 60% of patients in the JJD group and in 50% of those in the paroxetine group (P=0.292); HAMD-17 remission occurred in 45.7% and 30% of patients, respectively (P=0.128). The differences of CGI scores at the 6th week were not statistically significant (P>0.05). There were significant differences in HAMD-17 scores between the two groups at 2nd and 4th week (P=0.001 and P=0.014). The HAMA scores declined 8.1 ± 3.0 and 6.9 ± 4.3 points from baseline to week 6 in the JJD and paroxetine groups, respectively (P=0.905 between groups). At 4th week of treatment, there was a significant difference in HAMA between the two groups (P=0.037). TCMSS decreased 11.4 ± 5.1, and 10.1 ± 6.8 points in the JJD and paroxetine groups, respectively (P=0.080 between groups). At the 6th week, the incidence of AEs in the JJD group was significantly lower than that in the paroxetine group (7.14% vs. 22.86%, P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with paroxetine, JJD was associated with a significantly lower incidence of AEs in patients with mild-to-moderate depression of XPD syndrome, with no difference in efficacy at 6 weeks. The massive generation of municipal solid waste (MSW) has become an essential social problem that not only damages the ecological environment but also affects human health. To effectively manage MSW, it is necessary to forecast waste generation accurately. In this study, a grey multiple non-linear regression (GMNLR) model is developed to achieve the effective forecasting of MSW generation in China. Using grey relational analysis (GRA) to rank the influential factors of MSW generation, it is found that urban road area, residential consumption level, and total population are the main factors. Then, these factors are used as the input variables of the model to forecast MSW generation. Meanwhile, four performance indicators with adjusted R 2 ( R adj 2 ), absolute percentage error (APE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and root mean square error (RMSE) are used to evaluate the performance of these models. The results demonstrate that the GMNLR model has a highest prediction accuracy among the four models. According to the forecast results, China's MSW generation will reach 332.41 million tons in 2025, with an annual growth rate of 8.28%. A bacterial strain designated RZ03T was isolated from an intertidal sand sample from the Yellow Sea in China and characterised using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of strain RZ03T were observed to be Gram-stain negative, aerobic, and oxidase and catalase positive rods showing gliding motility and forming yellow colonies. Growth was found to occur at 7–30 °C (optimum, 25 °C), at pH 5.5–9.5 (optimum, pH 6.5–7.0) and with 0.5–5% NaCl (optimum, 1.5–2%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicates that strain RZ03T clusters within members of the genus Flavivirga of the family Flavobacteriaceae and is closely related to the type strains Flavivirga amylovorans JCM 17112T and Flavivirga jejuensis JCM 17113T (97.9% and 97.5% similarity, respectively). The predominant cellular fatty acids are iso-C15:0, iso-C15:1 G, iso-C17:0 3-OH and iso-C15:0 3-OH and the major respiratory quinone is MK-6. Polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, three unidentified aminolipids, an unidentified phospholipid and four unidentified lipids. The genome of strain RZ03T is 4.88 Mbp with a G+C content of 32.2 mol%. A total of 4152 genes are predicted, with 4052 protein-coding genes, 51 RNA genes and 49 pseudogenes. This polyphasic study suggests that strain RZ03T represents a novel species in the genus Flavivirga, for which the name Flavivirga rizhaonensis is proposed. The utility of three plastid DNA regions to identify fern species was explored with focus on the European representatives of the Asplenium trichomanes aggregate. The sampling included representatives of the three diploid and the four tetraploid taxa recognized in the European flora plus Macaronesia. Besides European samples, the compiled data set comprised specimens of a putative Hawaiian endemic and one species occurring in Southeast Asia. By combining the sequences of three non-coding plastid regions, 13 haplotypes were recovered of which four were found in more than one taxon. Evidences for four distinct diploid lineages were found that correspond to Asplenium anceps, A. inexpectans, A. trichomanes s.s., and A. tripteropus. The four tetraploids occurring in Europe shared haplotypes with A. inexpectans. Thus, DNA barcoding can successfully identify the diploids, but fail to separate the tetraploids from their diploid ancestors. As a consequence, barcoding analyses of ferns need to take into account the differences of ploidy level measured by evidence independent from the DNA barcode. Evidence for uneven accumulation of intra-species DNA variation was recovered by comparing all species. Furthermore, the study provided evidence that the current taxonomy of these ferns requires to be revised. The two European diploids form well-separated clades and need to be recognized as A. inexpectans and A. trichomanes s.s. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial mechanisms of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) ameliorating lung injury in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) mice induced by cigarette smoke and Haemophilus Parainfluenza (HPi) were studied. The experiment was divided into four groups in vivo: control group, COPD group, COPD+HPi group, and COPD+HPi+MSCs group. The indexes of emphysematous changes, inflammatory reaction and lung injury score, and antibacterial effects were evaluated in all groups. As compared with control group, emphysematous changes were significantly aggravated in COPD group, COPD+HPi group and COPD+HPi+MSCs group ( P<0.01), the expression of necrosis factor-kappaB (NF-κB) signal pathway and proinflammatory cytokines in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were increased ( P<0.01), and the phagocytic activity of alveolar macrophages was downregulated ( P<0.01). As compared with COPD group, lung injury score, inflammatory cells and proinflammatory cytokines were significantly increased in the BALF of COPD+HPi group and COPD+HPi+MSCs group ( P<0.01). As compared with COPD+HPi group, the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α stimulated protein/gene 6 (TSG-6) was increased, the NF-κB signal pathway was depressed, proinflammatory cytokine was significantly reduced, the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 was increased, and lung injury score was significantly reduced in COPD+HPi+MSCs group. Meanwhile, the phagocytic activity of alveolar macrophages was significantly enhanced and bacterial counts in the lung were decreased. The results indicated cigarette smoke caused emphysematous changes in mice and the phagocytic activity of alveolar macrophages was decreased. The lung injury of acute exacerbation of COPD mice induced by cigarette smoke and HPi was alleviated through MSCs transplantation, which may be attributed to the fact that MSCs could promote macrophages into anti-inflammatory phenotype through secreting TSG-6, inhibit NF-кB signaling pathway, and reduce inflammatory response through reducing proinflammatory cytokines and promoting the expression of the anti-inflammatory cytokine. Simultaneously, MSCs could enhance phagocytic activity of macrophages and bacterial clearance. Meanwhile, we detected anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activity of macrophages regulated by MSCs in vitro. As compared with RAW264.7+HPi+CSE group, the expression of NF-кB p65, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α was significantly reduced, and the phagocytic activity of macrophages was significantly increased in RAW264.7+HPi+CSE+MSCs group ( P<0.01). The amount of litter and its type can affect seedling establishment and species richness in plant communities. However, little is known about the species-specific effects of litter, especially in the presence of a competitor. We conducted a common garden test to examine the combined effects of competition and plant litter from conspecific versus heterospecific species on the emergence and early growth of the invasive plant Flaveria bidentis and the co-occurring native plant Amaranthus retroflexus. The litter of native species reduced the rate of seedling emergence of F. bidentis; this effect was stronger in the presence of a competitor. Litter addition reduced the seedling emergence rate of A. retroflexus, but had a neutral to positive effect on its early growth, indicating a clear species-specific pattern. Litter addition, combined with interspecific competition, facilitated growth of A. retroflexus; this species seemed to perform better in changing soil conditions than did F. bidentis. Consequently, a habitat-specific adaptation might be involved in this interspecific plant-soil feedback. Our results contribute our understanding of how to suppress F. bidentis in disturbed sites without herbicide application. In this paper, we focus on the vertex-fault-tolerant cycles embedding on enhanced hypercube, which is an attractive variant of hypercube and is obtained by adding some complementary edges from hypercube. Let F be the set of faulty vertices in the n-dimensional enhanced hypercube Q (1 ≤ k ≤ n−1). When | F | = 2, we showed that Q − F contains a fault-free cycle of every even length from 4 to 2 −4 where n ( n ≥ 3) and k have the same parity; and contains a fault-free cycle of every even length from 4 to 2 − 4, simultaneously, contains a cycle of every odd length from n − k + 2 to 2 − 3 where n(≥ 3) and k have the different parity. Furthermore, when | F | = f ≤ n − 2, we proof that there exists the longest fault-free cycle, which is of even length 2 − 2 f whether n( n ≥ 3) and k have the same parity or not; and there exists the longest fault-free cycle, which is of odd length 2 − 2 f − 1 in Q − F where n(≥ 3) and k have the different parity. The taxonomic status and phylogenetic placement of the monotypic genus Trichoneuron is studied using DNA sequences of three plastid-coding genes. Trichoneuron was originally assigned to Thelypteridaceae but has been considered to be a synonym of Lastreopsis in recent treatments. In this study, the proposed relationship of Trichoneuron to Lastreopsis was tested using a comprehensive taxa sampling of Dryopteridaceae. Our results strongly support the recognition of Trichoneuron as a distinct genus belonging to Dryopteridaceae. Trichoneuron does not group together with Lastreopsis. Instead the genus was found to be sister to the Neotropical genus Polystichopsis. This sister relationship is supported by the occurrence of long pluricellular hairs attached to the rachis of both genera. The morphological distinction of Trichoneuron from Lastreopsis is backed by the structure of the adaxial groove of rachis-costa junction and the hairs at abaxial side of leaf axes. The Polystichopsis- Trichoneuron clade was found to form the sister clade to an entirely Neotropical clade comprising Polybotrya and its relatives. The new subfamily Polybotryoideae is introduced based on the presented observations. In turn, the newly recovered sister relationship between Polystichopsis and Trichoneuron provides evidence for geographic disjunctions involving the Caribbean islands and the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation could repair injury tissue, but no study confirms whether MSCs can promote the proliferation of endogenous lung stem cells to repair alveolar epithelial cells of mice with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study was designed to investigate the effect of MSCs on the proliferation of endogenous lung stem cells in COPD mice to confirm the repair mechanism of MSCs. The mice were divided into control group, COPD group, and COPD+MSCs group. The following indexes were detected: HE staining of lung tissue, the mean linear intercept (MLI) and alveolar destructive index (DI), the total cell number in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), pulmonary function, alveolar wall apoptosis index (AI) and proliferation index (PI), the number of CD45/CD31/Sca-1 cells by flow cytometry (FCM), and the number of bronchoalveolar stem cells (BASCs) in bronchoalveolar duct junction (BADJ) by immunofluorescence. As compared with control group, the number of inflammatory cells in lung tissue was increased, alveolar septa was destroyed and the emphysema-like changes were seen, and the changes of lung function were in line with COPD in COPD group; AI of alveolar wall was significantly increased and PI significantly decreased in COPD group. There was no significant difference in the number of CD45/CD31/Sca-1 cells and BASCs between control group and COPD group. As compared with COPD group, the number of inflammatory cells in BALF was decreased, the number of CD45/CD31/Sca-1 cells and BASCs was increased, AI of alveolar wall was decreased and PI was increased, and emphysema-like changes were relieved in COPD+MSCs group. These findings suggested that MSCs transplantation can relieve lung injury by promoting proliferation of endogenous lung stem cells in the cigarette smoke-induced COPD mice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we performed a network meta-analysis to compare the outcomes of seven most common surgical procedures to fix DRF, including bridging external fixation, non-bridging external fixation, K-wire fixation, plaster fixation, dorsal plating, volar plating, and dorsal and volar plating. Published studies were retrieved through PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases. The database search terms used were the following keywords and MeSH terms: DRF, bridging external fixation, non-bridging external fixation, K-wire fixation, plaster fixation, dorsal plating, volar plating, and dorsal and volar plating. The network meta-analysis was performed to rank the probabilities of postoperative complication risks for the seven surgical modalities in DRF patients. This network meta-analysis included data obtained from a total of 19 RCTs. Our results revealed that compared to DRF patients treated with bridging external fixation, marked differences in pin-track infection (PTI) rate were found in patients treated with plaster fixation, volar plating, and dorsal and volar plating. Cluster analysis showed that plaster fixation is associated with the lowest probability of postoperative complication in DRF patients. Plaster fixation is associated with the lowest risk for postoperative complications in DRF patients, when compared to six other common DRF surgical methods examined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
