This paper assesses how Argentine public universities responded to the crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic in three dimensions: teaching and learning, scientific research and community engagement, and internationalization activities. For each of the dimensions, the actions developed, and the challenges encountered are presented. I argue that the response was quick and consistent: it is related to an academic culture that is framed in the right to university, both individual right (access, permanence, and graduation to all citizens) and collective right (benefit socio-community development). The article concludes with a preliminary analysis of the agenda items to advance regulations and policies. On several occasions a self-reflective exercise is carried out, as part of a community that is going through this situation of extraordinary urgency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze how prison systems in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico respond to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It explores the challenges these institutions face, the actions taken, the beneficiaries from such measures, and their immediate effect. We argue that governments and prison authorities struggle to put in place comprehensive measures to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19 within these institutions and that more concrete and swift actions are needed to address the magnitude and the consequences of the pandemic. The study aimed to assess the association between adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures and access to media information related to COVID-19. A multicountry, cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted from June to December 2020. The sample included 1,457 participants from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico. The outcome variable was self-reported adherence to preventive measures (handwashing, social distancing, self-isolation, use of face masks, and working from home). The explanatory variable was self-report of following media information related to COVID-19 (watching or reading the news, following social media coverage). Multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine the associations. Following information on social media was positively associated with higher odds of practicing social distancing [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 5.39; 95% confidence interval (CI): 3.93–7.30], self-isolation (AOR = 1.44; 95% CI: 1.08–1.92), use of face masks (AOR = 16.84; 95% CI: 10.03–28.27), handwashing (AOR = 6.95; 95% CI: 4.98–9.71), and working from home (AOR = 1.85; 95% CI: 1.43–2.41). Differences in the use of social media for COVID-19 information were observed among the four countries. Following social media was positively associated with adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures in Latin America. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted global interdependencies, accompanied by widespread calls for worldwide cooperation against a virus that knows no borders, but responses were led largely separately by national governments. In this tension between aspiration and reality, people began to grapple with how their own lives were affected by the global nature of the pandemic. In this article, based on 493 qualitative interviews conducted between 2020 and 2021, we explore how people in Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Ecuador, Ireland, Italy and Mexico experienced, coped with and navigated the global nature of the pandemic. In dialogue with debates about the parameters of the 'global' in global health, we focus on what we call people's everyday (de)bordering practices to examine how they negotiated (dis)connections between 'us' and 'them' during the pandemic. Our interviewees' reactions moved from national containment to an increasing focus on people's unequal socio-spatial situatedness. Eventually, they began to (de)border their lives beyond national lines of division and to describe a new normal: a growing awareness of global connectedness and a desire for global citizenship. The topic of borders is an active research area in Lotmanian studies. Starting from this scholarship, the article aims to open up fresh possibilities for interpretation of Lotman's spatial-driven theory, making it dialogue with the cultural affect studies and the current communication-focused research on the digital sphere. This theoretical framework underpins the case study covered in the essay, that is, the linguistic analysis of online narratives on migration during the COVID-19 pandemic – a prolonged situation of high-intensity relational affect in which emotions played a pivotal (agentive) role in the perception of a widespread and multidimensional crisis. With regard to strategic communication, there is a set of additive factors driving the strategic complexity that determines the magnitude of an issue and the path to follow. During the COVID-19 pandemic, different governments worldwide have played a variety of roles and their impact has been conclusive. In Latin America, current political and ideological antagonism has configured a diversity of contexts and scenarios that have conditioned public communication management, setting out from the assumption that they have variously weighted the different driving factors of the strategic complexity. Within the framework of the EUPRERA COM-COVID network, we present the cases of strategic communication management of the national governments of Brazil and Argentina during the second half of 2020 and their impact on the population from the sanitary, social and economic levels. Of 1,332 demographically weighted cases, we analyze the information channels, credible sources, types of messages and their effectiveness comparatively. The most relevant conclusion lies in confirming that the strategic factor model in the public sector is conditioned by the ideological profile of who governs and this determines the decisions and effectiveness of the management. The treatments being investigated for the pandemic associated with a severe acute respiratory syndrome caused by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV2) aim to inhibit viral replication or inhibit enzymatic elastase in the lung, responsible for the SARS-CoV cell entry mechanism and the pathogenesis of severe pneumonia caused by infection. There is also a need to improve alveolar surfactant capacity and inhibition of the exacerbated inflammatory response. Current knowledge allows us to infer that Citrus essential oils could be considered an individual or a complementary highly valuable alternative for the viral infection caused by SARS-CoV due to its antiviral activity, particularly against coronavirus, anti-elastase, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antibiofilm properties. Furthermore, its proven capacity of biosurfactants, antioxidants, and pain inhibitors would help to treat acute respiratory syndrome. This review aims to encourage the development of more detailed studies on Citrus essential oils as a new multi-objective strategy to treat SARS-CoV2 infection. According to the motivated helplessness hypothesis, a sense of helplessness in coping with threats in a specific domain can serve an anxiety-buffering function. The purpose of this study was to test this hypothesis in the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Argentina, using data collected before and during the pandemic. Findings supported the motivated helplessness hypothesis: Whereas feelings of helplessness to avoid being infected with COVID-19 were positively related to fear of being infected with COVID-19 and state anxiety before the pandemic, these feelings were negatively related to fear of being infected (and not directly related to state anxiety) during the pandemic. These findings demonstrate the specificity of the motivated helplessness effect and further establish this effect in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In May 2020, an online video event for about 200 participants, took place during the global Covid 19 lockdown, organised by Monica Cardenal, supported by the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis Committee and the Buenos Aires, Argentina, Italian Hospital Paediatric Mental Health Service and its University Institute. The aim was to discuss two detailed online infant observations and the effects of the pandemic–induced social isolation on the baby and family. The observer was part of an observation seminar led by Cardenal. Jeanne Magagna was invited to lead the discussion with Monica Cardenal and the large group. Magagna had been able to present observations of a baby, each week over three years, to with Esther Bick. Other participants attended but were not observers themselves at the time. Bick encouraged the group to pause during the reading of an observation in order to discuss that part in detail and Magagna wanted, as far as possible, to follow Bick's method. Emerging data reveals the COVID-19 pandemic's disproportionate impact on historically marginalized communities. Drawing on in-depth interviews with legal empowerment practitioners, this article explores case studies of three communities (in Argentina, India, and the United States) that highlight a grassroots approach to tackling injustice during COVID-19. The article finds lasting insights for human rights practitioners and scholars, with the concepts of translation, trust, and transformation integral to disrupting power structures and creating pathways for communities to become the authors of their own justice and liberation. This study looks at the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on four education and technical colleges from the San Nicolas District in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. We analyse information collected from directors, a regional teacher trainer, and an education specialist on how colleges react, adapt, and respond to student-teacher needs during the tine of the pandemic. We also examine the changes to the practicum for 21 teachers. The reality of the pandemic has inspired management and teachers from training and technical institutions to propose an innovative educational response for the student-teachers and to contemplate how teacher training can reshape practice and learning moving from the old to the new normal.
