A small-scale consultation of care leavers in South London was undertaken in 2013–2014, in order to inform a pilot mentoring scheme to reduce depression in young women through supporting their transition from care to independence. Research on the social factors implicated in the onset and course of depression indicates that social support during stressful events can be protective. Youth mentoring is now widely offered to disadvantaged young people. This paper examines what some young people told us about if and how our proposed mentoring intervention might help in maintaining their well-being through the stress of leaving care. Eleven participants of focus group discussions told us they could see clear benefits in receiving mentoring at this time, and discussed the kind of mentor and activities they might like. However, most did not want a mentor now. Thematic analysis of the discussions arising identified unpaid, open-ended ‘natural mentoring’ relationships as particularly important to them in maintaining their well-being. We consider the fit with related research, and emerging new policy, and the implications for our proposed study, and conclude that supporting the establishment and continuation of natural mentoring is a particularly promising way forward. Onset of psychosis commonly occurs in adolescence, and long-term prognosis can be poor. There is growing evidence, largely from adult cohorts, that Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) and Family Interventions (FI) can play a role in managing symptoms and difficulties associated with psychosis. However, adolescents have distinct developmental needs that likely impact their engagement and response to talking therapy. There is limited guidance on adapting CBTp to meet the clinical needs of under-eighteens experiencing psychosis. This educational clinical practice article details learnings from therapists and supervisors working with young people (aged 14–18 years) with psychosis during the Managing Adolescent first-episode Psychosis: a feasibility Study (MAPS) randomised clinical treatment trial, supplemented by findings from nested qualitative interviews with young people receiving CBTp. Suggested are given for tailoring CBTp assessment, formulation and interventions to meet the developmental and clinical needs of adolescents with psychosis. Developmentally appropriate techniques and resources described. Early indications from MAPS study indicate this developmentally tailored approach is an acceptable, safe and helpful treatment for young people with psychosis. To evaluate the implementation of an integrated multidisciplinary Movement Disorder Clinic using a model of knowledge translation. A mixed methods design was used to evaluate implementation outcomes. After recognising poor referral rates to allied health, Movement Disorder Clinic team-members identified implementation barriers. Team- and process-level implementation strategies were designed and tailored to address these barriers. The primary outcome measure was the change in the proportion of patients referred to allied health, determined by comparing pre- and post-implementation documentation audits. Secondary outcome measures included clinician and consumer surveys to identify ongoing implementation barriers and stakeholder satisfaction. Documentation from 90 medical records was included in the audits (post-intervention n = 45). There was a significant improvement in the referral rates to allied health from 53% to 84% (mean improvement 31%, p = 0.003, Fisher's exact test). However, documentation of disease education decreased by 38% (p = 0.000, Fisher's exact test). Movement Disorder Clinic team-members identified three main barriers to ongoing implementation: "memory and automaticity", "environmental context and resources" and "beliefs about capabilities". Thirty-seven consumer surveys were completed, showing high levels of satisfaction (86%) but ongoing educational needs (51%). Implementation of an integrated multidisciplinary Movement Disorder Clinic was facilitated by a knowledge translation framework, leading to improved allied health referral rates and high levels of staff and consumer satisfaction, but unmet educational needs of consumers. Future research in the field of multidisciplinary healthcare for people with movement disorders is needed to determine the impact of these changes on patients' healthcare outcomes. Multidisciplinary integrated healthcare models may lead to better outcomes in progressive diseases such as Parkinson's disease, however, can be challenging to implement. Individual interviews were conducted with six self-identified Muslim gay men living in London focusing on their experience of health service use. Transcripts were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Analysis identified two major themes: the close(d) community and self-management with healthcare professionals, detailing participants' concerns regarding the risks of disclosing sexuality; and the authentic identity - 'you're either a Muslim or you're gay, you can't be both' - which delineated notions of incommensurate identity. Analysis highlights the need for health practitioners to have insight into the complexity of intersectional identities, identity disclosure dynamics and the negative consequences of assumptions made, be these heteronormative or faith-related. Introduction: The majority of severely injured children in England have a significant head injury and will be seen in Major Trauma Centers (MTCs). The period following brain injury represents an opportunity to influence recovery of neurological function. The study sought to determine whether children who had sustained a head injury were referred for neurorehabilitation.Method: The study was conducted over one year at one center. Children sustaining a moderate or severe head injury were identified and compared to those referred for neurorehabilitation.Results: A total of 41 patients were identified; 16/41 (39%) were referred for neurorehabilitation. Group comparison revealed significant associations between referral status and age (X2(3) = 8.35,p= 0.039), injury mechanism (X2(1) = 8.12,p= 0.017), injury severity (X2(1) = 21.3,p< 0.000), and imaging findings (X2(1) = 11.71,p= 0.001).Discussion: Data reveal concerns for access to neurorehabilitation. Improved access to neurorehabilitation permitting long-term follow-up is required. The establishment of MTCs provides an opportunity to enact this. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
