Wheat is one of the three major staple foods in the world. Although wheat is highly nutritional, it has a variety of allergenic components that are potentially fatal to humans and pose a significant hazard to the growth and consumption of wheat. Wheat allergy is a serious health problem, which is becoming more and more prevalent all over the world. To address and prevent related health risks, it is crucial to establish precise and sensitive detection and analytical methods as well as an understanding of the structure and sensitization mechanism of wheat allergens. Among various analytical tools, mass spectrometry (MS) is known to have high specificity and sensitivity. It is a promising non immune method to evaluate and quantify wheat allergens. In this article, the current research on the detection of wheat allergens based on mass spectrometry is reviewed. Few studies were reported on trace elements' alterations in uremic patients undergoing long-term (>24 months) hemodialysis (HD), especially by using the whole blood as the biological fluid for the measuring purpose. Our objective was to develop an improved micro-sampling inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) method to determine the levels of Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Se and Pb in uremic patients receiving long-term HD. A ICP-MS method with a modified whole blood sample preparation procedure with small volumes was established and applied for the simultaneous quantification of the various elements in uremic patients undergoing long-term HD. 124 eligible uremic patients receiving long-term HD (75 males and 49 females) and 77 healthy subjects (54 males and 23 females) were recruited and Ca, Mg, Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Se and Pb levels were further determined. Our results revealed that uremic patients with HD had significantly higher blood levels of Ca, Mg, Zn and Pb and lower Cu, Fe, Se and Mn concentrations than healthy controls. In conclusion, a reproducible and reliable ICP-MS method using minimal whole blood sample volume (50 μL) with a simple dilution-based preparation procedure was successfully improved, validated and applied. Uremic patients undergoing long-term HD might be at increased risk of some essential trace elements deficiency (especially for Cu, Fe and Se) or toxic trace element excess (Pb) in respect to healthy subjects. Four new C19-diterpenoid alkaloids, 3-dehydroxyl-lipoindaconitine (1), 8-dehydroxyl-bikhaconine (2), 19R-acetonyl-talatisamine (3), and 16-hydroxyl-vilmorisine (4), were isolated from the roots of Aconitum ouvrardianum. Reactive extractive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry was used for the rapid, sensitive determination of dimethyl sulfide in seawater without sample pretreatment. Using silver cations (Ag+) as the ionic reagent, the analyte was selectively extracted from seawater to form adduct ions of [CH3SCH3 + Ag]+. The characteristic product ions of Ag+, generated from parent ions of [CH3SCH3 + Ag]+by tandem mass spectrometry, were used for quantitative analysis. A linear calibration curve was obtained from 1 to 10,000 pg/mL with acceptable relative standard deviations of 3.2–8.1%. This method provided a low limit of detection (0.3 pg/mL), reasonable recovery (82–111%), and acceptable precision (3.9 and 4.2% for intraday and interday measurements). Trace dimethyl sulfide was determined in seawater by this method. These results demonstrate that reactive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry is suitable for the rapid, reliable, and sensitive determination of dimethyl sulfide in seawater. Two new C-21 steroidal glycosides, dregeosides D (1) and E (2), were isolated from the roots of Dregea sinensis. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra and HR-ESI-MS analysis.
