Avian nephritis virus infections of chicken flocks cause enteric and kidney disease, uneven growth, and runting stunting syndrome, leading to economic losses in the poultry industry. In this study, one ANV strain, designated as AH202017, was isolated from a diseased broiler flock in Anhui province, China, in 2020. Virus production in LMH cell culture was confirmed by real-time RT–PCR and immunofluorescence assay. The complete genome sequencing analysis indicated that AH202017 shares 77.5–85.5% identity with 12 reference strains in GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis of the capsid protein revealed that AH202017 is more closely related to VIC-6a/Australia/2014 belonging to ANV genotype 2. However, the phylogenetic tree, based on the ORF1a protein and ORF1b protein, indicated that AH202017 manifests a close relationship with GXJL815/China/2017 belonging to genotype 8. In infection experiments, four infected chickens showed depression and one chicken died at 6 days post-infection, corresponding to 5% mortality. The virus was shed daily in the faeces of infected chickens, and was found distributed in multiple organs. Macroscopic and microscopic lesions in the kidneys were observed. This is the first paper that describes the genomic characteristics and pathogenicity of a novel ANV strain in China. A main purpose of the present study was to examine and compare attitudes toward inclusive education between parents of children with ASD, parents of typically developing children, and classroom teachers in China. The investigators also sought to explore factors influencing different stakeholders' perspectives. An attitude survey was distributed to 14 institutions in Shanghai and Anhui Province in China, including four kindergartens, two elementary schools, four special schools, and four private training agencies. Seven hundred and twelve responses were received, including 170 from parents of children with ASD, 337 from parents of typically developing children, and 197 from classroom teachers. Both multivariate and univariate analyses were conducted to compare differences in attitudes between groups. The results indicate that parents of children with ASD held the most positive attitudes toward inclusion, whereas classroom teachers held the least positive attitudes toward the inclusion of children with ASD. Further analyses revealed that not only were adults' attitudes influenced by their identities as parents or teachers, but their background may also influence how they perceive inclusive education. The findings of the study provided a comprehensive view on how different parties perceive inclusive education of ASD. It also provided empirical evidence that inclusion generally has a positive impact on people's attitudes toward ASD. Regional landscape ecological risk (LER) assessment is of great significance for coordinating the relationship between land use and ecological environment, and for promoting the rational allocation of resources, and it is the basis and guarantee for achieving sustainable development. By assessing the landscape ecological risk of the Huaihe River ecological and economic zone, it can promote the development of ecological risk assessment theory, provide a scientific basis for the formulation of ecological civilization construction planning and policies, and help to strengthen environmental monitoring, planning and management, and promote the construction of ecological civilization. Based on the remote sensing image data of land use from 1985 to 2020, the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of land use and LER in the Anhui section of the Huaihe River Ecological and Economic Belt in China were explored. The results showed that: (1) The construction land showed an increasing trend, with an increased area of 4753.35 km2, whereas the cultivated land showed a negative growth trend, with a reduced area of 4487.58 km2. (2) During the past 35 years, the ecological risks in the research area showed a decreasing trend as a whole, with medium-low and medium-risk areas ranking as the main; medium-high and high-risk areas are mainly distributed on both sides of the Huaihe River and in the northern-central part of Suzhou City. (3) Moran's I values of LER in each period were showing significant spatial autocorrelation and tending to converge spatially. Salvia chienii E.Peter is a medicinal herb mainly distributed in Huangshan Mountain of Anhui province, China. In this study, the first complete chloroplast genome of S. chienii was sequenced and assembled. The genome length was 151,530 bp and encoded 143 genes (91 protein-coding genes, eight rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes). The phylogenomic analysis showed that S. chienii was closely related to S. miltiorrhiza. Further evolutionary studies of the genus Salvia could benefit from the complete chloroplast genome of S. chienii present in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The new hexactinellid stiodermatid Turgidaspongia porosa gen. et sp. nov. is described from the Ordovician-Silurian boundary sequence in Beigong of Jingxian County, south Anhui Province, China. The spherical, thin-walled species possessed unique features including unusually large parietal gaps on the body wall, swollen hexactines as hypodermalia, and two different sizes of stauractines as dermalia and parenchymalia respectively. Based on the new material, the family Stiodermatidae is revised here, including five genera after reassessment, i.e., Rigbyella, Thoracospongia, Stioderma, Uralonema, and Turgidaspongia porosa gen. et sp. nov. The new species is well preserved with typical enlarged hypodermal hexactines with swollen rays and large, subcircular parietal gaps, giving an illuminating insight into the affinity between the new species and other taxa in Stiodermatidae. It also provides a link between the Cambrian stiodermatid lineage and late Palaeozoic stiodermatid lineage. The uneven distribution of the swollen dermalia in the new species may relate to the sloughing of the dermal spicules causing by the nutrient deficiency. The unique rigid skeleton structure and unusually large parietal gaps probably represent new attempts on the skeletal evolution of hexactinellids in the Palaeozoic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

New umbellaoolithid and faveoloolithid eggs were discovered from the early Late Cretaceous deposit in the Xiuning Basin, Anhui Province, China, and the samples were examined for elemental and isotopic compositions to reconstruct the geochemical environment. The results show that the trace elements consist of Sr, Mn, Ti, Ba, As, La, Cr, Ni, Pb, Cu, Zn, Co and Ir. The abnormal Sr and Mn were deposited in the eggshell mainly through material exchange of dinosaurs, and the high Ir concentration of surrounding rocks in the Xiuning Basin is conformed to the early Late Cretaceous Ir anomaly. The δ13C compositions of eggshells suggest that the palaeovegetations are supposed to be −20.191‰ and −21.156‰ showing C3 plant and high CO2 concentration, as well as low mean annual precipitation. The δ18O compositions of eggshells indicate that the drinking water was mainly composed of meteoric water and plant leaf water, and the mean palaeotemperature was approximately 19°C. Based on the geochemical compositions of eggshells, the Ni content, the Sr/Ba ratio and the palaeoclimate index of surrounding rocks, the palaeoenvironment in the Xiuning Basin were dominated by alluvial fans and river systems with semi-arid climate in the early Late Cretaceous. Orthocerids from the Upper Gufeng Formation, Guadalupian (middle Permian), from Anhui Province (China) are described for the first time in this article. The specimens are mainly Pseudorthoceratidae characterised by slender orthocones that have been studied under CT-Scan. A new genus and species have been described, Houdongoceras chaohuensis gen. et sp. nov., with seven morphotypes that presumably relate to new ones. Seventeen per cent of the specimens have epibiotic bacterial colonies associated indicating suboxic environments restating redox conditions during their deposition. This is also the first report of Permian macrofossils presenting bacterial colonies in China. This fauna is interpreted as autochthonous or parautochthonous which originally lived nektobenthically in shallow marine waters above the sediments or close to the sea bottom on the eastern margin of the Palaeotethys Ocean during the late Guadalupian faunal crisis. The heavy metals of soils around coal waste pile at Taoyuan coal mine (in Anhui province, China) has exceeded provincial's background values, posing a serious threat to residents in the mine area. Quantitative evaluation on human health risks (HHR) from different sources of heavy metals can determine priority sources and help to reduce risks. Statistics, spatial distribution, and positive matrix factorization (PMF) were applied to identify contribution of sources, and HHR from different sources were quantitatively calculated by combining the HHR with PMF model. In this study, 37 samples were collected from topsoil (0–20 cm) around coal waste pile. Four sources were apportioned as follow: industrial activities (48.37%), transportation (22.44%), natural source (15.44%), and leaching from coal waste pile (13.70%). As for carcinogenic risk, industrial activities was the priority source. Moreover, the noncarcinogenic risk and carcinogenic risk for children were obviously higher than adults, and the main exposure pathway for adults and children was similar, mainly from oral ingestion. The combined model was effective to assess HHR quantitatively from different sources, thereby the outcomes of the study provide a better understanding and suggestions for pollution control and human health from sources. Sedum plumbizincicola (S. plumbizincicola) is known as a sufficient plant for phytoremediation of cadmium (Cd) polluted soils. This study aimed to investigate the effects of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), tea saponin (TS), and citric acid (CA) on Cd uptake and translocation by S. plumbizincicola. To do so, using a pot experiment, we set four concentration levels of activators (1, 3, 5, and 10 mmol L−1) and a control (CK). Results showed that none of the applied activators had significant impact on soil pH. Except for CA-10, the concentration of available Cd in Cd polluted soils increased by 65.8–72.9% compared with CK. The EDTA-1, CA-1, and TS-5 treatments caused significant increases of 52.3, 67.2, and 38.4%, respectively, in the biomass of aerial parts of S. plumbizincicola (p < 0.05) compared with CK. Except for CA-3, activators increased Cd accumulation in the aerial parts of plants by 47–124% compared with CK. Of all activators, EDTA-3 caused the highest Cd accumulation of 6.64 g pot−1 in the aerial plant tissues followed by CA-10 (6.25 g pot−1) and TS-1 (5.48 g pot−1). Finally, our results suggested that the application of S. plumbizincicola together with different activators sufficiently reduced soil total Cd by 4.64–48.4% compared with CK. These findings suggest that appropriate application of EDTA, TS, and CA can promote phytoremediation of Cd contaminated soils by hyper-accumulators. In particular, the combined use of EDTA and S. plumbizincicola is an affordable and promising strategy for remediation of Cd contaminated soil. Novelty statement:Sedum plumbizincicola (S. plumbizincicola) is a well-known hyper-accumulator plant for remediation of cadmium (Cd) and zinc (Zn) contaminated soils. In addition, low molecular rganic acids and macromolecular chelating agents can improve the solubility and leaching of soil heavy metals. In the present work, we examined the combined effects of three activators (EDTA, tea saponin, and citric acid) with S. plumbizincicola to remediate a Cd contaminated soil in Anhui Province, East China. Our results indicated the effectiveness of these activators to increase soil available Cd, as well as improving the biomass of S. plumbizincicola and its Cd uptake. We believe that this study provides an efficient approach to increase the uptake of Cd by S. plumbizincicola, restoring Cd contaminated soils. Nevertheless, excessive activators may have adverse effects on soil aggregates and soil microorganisms. The important historical mission of rural credit cooperatives (RCCs) in China is to "serving agriculture, rural areas, and farmers" so as to achieve sustainable commercial development. Using panel data on eighty-one RCCs in Anhui Province, we examine the relationship between agricultural services and operational performance among RCCs in rural China under different rates of asset growth with a threshold panel model. The results show that the influence of agricultural services on the performance of RCCs is nonlinear, with a significant threshold effect. When the asset growth rate remains moderate, agricultural services improve the commercial performance of RCCs; otherwise, it negatively affects performance. These findings imply that moderate adjustment in the asset growth rate of RCCs is conducive to simultaneous improvement in both agricultural services and commercial performance. The road traffic accident is an important public health issue affecting social development and public safety. The purpose of this study is to describe the situation of traffic accidents, and to explore the relationship between fatal traffic accidents and risk factors in Suzhou city of Anhui province in China. The accident data was obtained from the Traffic Police Detachment of the Suzhou Public Security Bureau. Other vehicle, population and road information are derived from Suzhou Statistical Yearbook. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize road traffic accident participants' characteristics. The binary logistic regression model was used to analyze the factors that affected fatal traffic accident. There are 7,795 cases involved 18,774 road traffic participants. By logistic regression, we found that in Suzhou, overloading makes traffic accidents more likely to be the most fatal traffic accidents (adjusted OR = 5.33, 95%CI: 2.60-10.93). Speeding, drive after drinking, fatigue driving and pedestrian reasons might also increase the probability of fatal traffic accidents. These findings would help transportation authorities identify dangerous driving behaviors and take the necessary measures to improve road safety in undeveloped areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics and prognosis of anorectal malformations (ARMs) and explore the influencing factors of postoperative anal function in Anhui Province of China.Methods: We performed a retrospective study of ARM patients diagnosed from 2013 to 2016 at Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital. A total of 332 infants with ARM were enrolled in the survey. Demographic characteristic and clinical data were collected. Follow-up study was required to evaluate anal function after the operation and Logistic regression analysis was used for analyzing the influencing factors of prognosis.Results: A total of 253 males and 79 females were studied, with a ratio of 3.2:1. Abdominal distention was the most common presenting symptom, followed by vomiting. Of the cases, 53.0% (176/332) combined with other congenital malformations. The incidence of other malformations in intermediate and high ARM group was significantly higher than that in the low ARM group. Of the cases, 280 underwent anoplasty. 188, 73, 19 cases were treated with one-stage perineal anoplasty, posterior sagittal anorectoplasty, laparoscopically assisted anorectal pull-through, respectively. The result of follow-up study showed that the excellent and good rate of postoperative anal function was up to 83.3%. Type of ARM, combined with other malformations and the times of anoplasty were related to the anal function postoperatively.Conclusions: ARM occurs mainly in male infants. The incidence of associated abnormalities in ARM patients was high. Intermediate- and high-type, combined with other malformations and more times of anoplasty increased the risk of anal dysfunction postoperatively. Heavy metals in vegetables are of great concern worldwide due to their potential bioaccumulation in human. This review-based study researched the concentrations of heavy metals in vegetables from all provinces of China between 2004 and 2018, and assessed the health risk for the residents. The results displayed the highest Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn concentrations in vegetables were 0.192mg/kg (west area), 0.071mg/kg (central area), 3.961mg/kg (central area), and 10.545 mg/kg (central area), which were lower than the maximum allowable concentration. In the national scale, the weighted average level of heavy metals in vegetables was found to be in the order of Zn>Cu>Pb>Cd. The hazard index (HI) of each province showed that beside Anhui and Hunan province, residents in other provinces of China faced a low high risk of Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn. However, people consuming vegetables faced a high risk of Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn in Anhui and Hunan provinces. The subtropical high temperature anomaly of 2013 in China, adversely affected paddy rice physiology, especially at the heading, flowering and grain filling stages, and left untold damage and significant rice yield reductions in that year. Considering the importance of data on crop failure induced by abnormal meteorological events, in understanding the potential impacts of climate change on agriculture and food security, and in support of crop insurance policies, the current study employs satellite remote sensing data to map and estimate the areal extent of high-temperature-induced damage on paddy rice in 2013, along the Yangtze River, a major rice producing area in China. In this regard, the daily mean and maximum air temperatures were first estimated using the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Land Surface Temperature (LST) products, MODIS Vegetation Indices (VI) products, altitude information from a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), and air temperature measurements at meteorological stations located within the Yangtze River Basin from 2000 to 2016, to derive fully covered mean and maximum daily air temperatures. Paddy rice cultivated areas were then identified based on the seasonal profiles of MODIS Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) and Land Surface Water Index (LSWI) in 2013, and map errors at provincial scales were no more than 8.7%. Finally, paddy rice growth characteristics were combined with MODIS VI products to identify heading and flowering stages, and the time series of daily mean and maximum air temperatures, paddy rice phenology and cultivated area, were integrated to map and estimate the rice crop area damaged by the anomalous high temperature. Our results show that all provinces along the Yangtze River, this study investigated, recorded a substantial damaged rice crop area, following the 2013 subtropical temperature high, and Anhui Province was the hardest hit with a damaged rice area of 63.6%. For the entire study area, a damage extent of about 5,656,000 ha, accounting for 35.9% of total paddy rice planted area, was recorded. This indicates a significant agro-meteorological disaster, and in an era of increasing climate variability and weather extremes, studies of this nature would greatly benefit global food security planning and management policies. Hydrotrupes chinensis Nilsson, 2003 described from the holotype collected in Anhui Province, China, is newly recorded from three localities in Guangdong Province, ca. 750 km southwest from the type locality. The species seems to inhabit hygropetric habitats exclusively, with diurnal larvae and nocturnal adults hidden under stones or in cracks in rock during the day; when disturbed, the adults readily jumped off the rock surface. The adult is redescribed. The larvae are described and illustrated for the first time, with detailed morphometric and chaetotaxic analyses of the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi. Whereas similar morphologically to the Nearctic endemic Hydrotrupes palpalis Sharp, 1882, the first instar larva of H. chinensis distinguishes by presence of six lamellae clypeales, two additional spine-like setae both on the last abdominal segment and urogomphomere 1, and the strongly developed egg bursters.
