Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most malignant and common form of neuroendocrine lung cancer with pure (P‐SCLC) and combined subtypes (C‐SCLC). However, little is known about the differences between these two groups and in this study we aimed to provide a more comprehensive insight into SCLC. Methods: Data from 580 postoperative patients with pathologically confirmed SCLC in Shanghai Chest Hospital from January 2010 to December 2020 were collected retrospectively. The clinical characteristics and prognosis were analyzed. Results: A total of 357 P‐SCLC patients and 223 C‐SCLC patients were included. The results indicated that P‐SCLC appeared to have a higher proportion of being located in the middle lobe than C‐SCLC. The incidences of P‐SCLC in patients with visceral pleural invasion (VPI) and in stage II were higher than C‐SCLC, while C‐SCLC was more likely to be accompanied by higher incidences of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation, anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangement, and higher levels of CEA, SCCA and CYFRA21‐1 than P‐SCLC. The most common were SCLC combined with large cell neuroendocrine components among 223 C‐SCLCs. Survival analysis confirmed a more favorable disease‐free survival (DFS) (p = 0.016) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.024) in patients with P‐SCLCs compared with C‐SCLCs. Histological type, tumor location, pN stage, adjuvant chemotherapy, serum NSE and CA125 levels were independent risk factors for survival rate in SCLC. In addition, adjuvant chemotherapy was beneficial in improving stage I P‐SCLC and C‐SCLC DFS and OS rates, and similar results were not seen in adjuvant radiation therapy. Conclusions: Patients with C‐SCLC have a poorer prognosis than P‐SCLC patients. We determined that large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma was the most common additional component of C‐SCLC, and patients with this component appeared to have a longer DFS and OS than other combined components. Background: The aim of this study was to explore predictors and construct a nomogram for risk stratification in primary extragastric mucosa‐associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Methods: Extragastric MALT lymphoma cases newly diagnosed between November 2010 and April 2020 were assessed to construct a progression‐free survival (PFS)‐related nomogram. We also performed external validation of the nomogram in an independent cohort. Results: We performed multivariate analyses of 174 patients from 3 hospitals who were included in the training cohort. Stage, hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) status, and Ki67 expression were significantly associated with PFS. These three factors were used to construct a nomogram, which was shown to have a C‐index of 0.89. Two risk groups (low risk and high risk) were identified by the prognostic model. The 5‐year PFS was 98.9% for the low‐risk group and 69.3% for the high‐risk group (p < 0.001). The overall survival (OS) could also be effectively distinguished by the nomogram, resulting in an OS of 100% for the low‐risk group and 94.6% for the high‐risk group (p = 0.01). These results were validated and confirmed in an independent cohort with 165 patients from another three hospitals. The 5‐year PFS rates were 94.8% and 66.7% for the low‐risk and high‐risk groups, respectively (p < 0.001). The 5‐year OS rates were 97.9% and 88.4%, respectively (p = 0.016). Conclusion: The nomogram could well distinguish the prognosis of low‐ and high‐risk patients with extragastric MALT lymphoma and is thus recommended for clinical use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: There are only a few studies on the prognosis of patients with complete response of the tumour (ypT0) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) and radical resection of rectal cancer. The aim of the study was to identify prognostic factors with regard to oncological outcome in ypT0 patients after NCRT and radical resection. Methods: All ypT0 patients with rectal cancer after NCRT and radical resection between January 2010 and June 2019 were included. Cox univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to determine the prognostic factors of these patients. Results: Seventy‐six patients with ypT0 rectal cancer were included. In nine patients (11.8%), lymph node metastasis was identified. Age, gender, elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and ypN+ were risk factors associated with a worse 5‐year disease‐free survival (DFS) rate in univariate analysis (P = 0.08, 0.14, 0.007 and 0.003, respectively). In multivariate analysis, ypN+ and elevated CEA before NCRT were independent risk factors for worse 5‐year DFS (P = 0.005 and 0.021, respectively). Elevated CEA before NCRT, post‐operative chemotherapy and ypN+ were risk factors associated with worse overall survival in univariate analysis (P = 0.14, 0.002 and 0.17, respectively). However, in multivariate analysis, none of these three factors were independent risk factors for worse overall survival (P = 0.20, 0.34 and 0.06, respectively). Conclusion: ypN+ and elevated CEA before NCRT were found to be independent risk factors for an unfavourable DFS in ypT0 patients with complete response of the tumour after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for rectal cancer. Background and Aim: The role of STMN1 in the development and progression of esophageal carcinoma is not yet determined. The present study aimed to systematically evaluate the correlation between STMN1 and prognosis of patients with esophageal carcinoma. Methods: Electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane library, and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM) were searched to identify studies evaluating the impact of STMN1 on the survival of esophageal cancer patients, without the language limitation. Two investigators screened the literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria and evaluated the quality of the included studies. The combined analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of eight studies, involving 1240 esophageal carcinoma patients, were included in this retrospective design. Meta‐analysis showed that esophageal carcinoma patients with low STMN1 had a superior overall survival and disease‐free survival than those with high expression of STMN1. Compared with the high expression of STMN1, the 5‐year survival rate was significantly higher in patients with low level of STMN1. Patients with high STMN1 expression had a higher risk of experiencing clinical grade III–IV disease, lymph node metastasis, and tumor invasion than those with low STMN1. Microvesicles (MVs), which are cell‐derived membrane vesicles present in body fluids, are closely associated with the development of malignant tumours. Saliva, one of the most versatile body fluids, is an important source of MVs. However, the association between salivary MVs (SMVs) and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which is directly immersed in the salivary milieu, remains unclear. SMVs from 65 patients with OSCC, 21 patients with oral ulcer (OU), and 42 healthy donors were purified, quantified and analysed for their correlations with the clinicopathologic features and prognosis of OSCC patients. The results showed that the level of SMVs was significantly elevated in patients with OSCC compared to healthy donors and OU patients. Meanwhile, the level of SMVs showed close correlations with the lymph node status, and the clinical stage of OSCC patients. Additionally, the ratio of apoptotic to non‐apoptotic SMVs was significantly decreased in OSCC patients with higher pathological grade. Consistently, poorer overall survival was observed in patients with lower ratio of apoptotic to non‐apoptotic SMVs. In conclusion, the elevated level of SMVs is associated with clinicopathologic features and decreased survival in patients with OSCC, suggesting that SMVs are a potential biomarker and/or regulator of the malignant progression of OSCC.
