Purpose: The aim of this paper is to analyze the articles published in Kinesiology – International Journal of Fundamental and Applied Kinesiology using bibliometric indicators. Methods: The sample consisted of 1083 articles published in the period of 50 years, from the 1st volume in 1971, until the 52nd volume in 2020. Bibliographic units (articles) were observed and analyzed according to next parameters: number of articles per year, categorization of articles, the language of publication and the abstract, number of authors, references and citation according to bibliographic databases. Collected data was processed in Microsoft Excel program. Results: The analysis of the articles revealed that the most common articles were original scientific papers (79.20 %), while the least represented articles were categorized as conference papers (1.01%). From 1971 to 1996 most articles were written in the Croatian language (95.75 %), but since 1997 the articles have been written only in the English language, while the abstracts were in English, Croatian, German or Russian. The analyzed articles contain 27443 references in total, an average of 25.36 references per paper. The journal has been analyzed regarding the data in Web of Science and Scopus bibliographic databases. From 2008 to 2020, there were 399 articles in Web of Science Core Collection, cited in the range from 116 to 0, and 395 articles indexed in Scopus in the range from 110 to 0. Conclusions: A strong international orientation of the journal is conveyed by publishing in English and enabling access to full texts of publications through the Portal of Scientific Journals of Croatia – Hrčak.

Background With the continuous expansion of available biomedical data, efficient and effective information retrieval has become of utmost importance. Semantic expansion of queries using synonyms may improve information retrieval. Objective The aim of this study was to automatically construct and evaluate expanded PubMed queries of the form “preferred term”[MH] OR “preferred term”[TIAB] OR “synonym 1”[TIAB] OR “synonym 2”[TIAB] OR …, for each of the 28,313 Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) descriptors, by using different semantic expansion strategies. We sought to propose an innovative method that could automatically evaluate these strategies, based on the three main metrics used in information science (precision, recall, and F-measure). Methods Three semantic expansion strategies were assessed. They differed by the synonyms used to build the queries as follows: MeSH synonyms, Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) mappings, and custom mappings (Catalogue et Index des Sites Médicaux de langue Française [CISMeF]). The precision, recall, and F-measure metrics were automatically computed for the three strategies and for the standard automatic term mapping (ATM) of PubMed. The method to automatically compute the metrics involved computing the number of all relevant citations (A), using National Library of Medicine indexing as the gold standard (“preferred term”[MH]), the number of citations retrieved by the added terms (”synonym 1“[TIAB] OR ”synonym 2“[TIAB] OR …) (B), and the number of relevant citations retrieved by the added terms (combining the previous two queries with an “AND” operator) (C). It was possible to programmatically compute the metrics for each strategy using each of the 28,313 MeSH descriptors as a “preferred term,” corresponding to 239,724 different queries built and sent to the PubMed application program interface. The four search strategies were ranked and compared for each metric. Results ATM had the worst performance for all three metrics among the four strategies. The MeSH strategy had the best mean precision (51%, SD 23%). The UMLS strategy had the best recall and F-measure (41%, SD 31% and 36%, SD 24%, respectively). CISMeF had the second best recall and F-measure (40%, SD 31% and 35%, SD 24%, respectively). However, considering a cutoff of 5%, CISMeF had better precision than UMLS for 1180 descriptors, better recall for 793 descriptors, and better F-measure for 678 descriptors. Conclusions This study highlights the importance of using semantic expansion strategies to improve information retrieval. However, the performances of a given strategy, relatively to another, varied greatly depending on the MeSH descriptor. These results confirm there is no ideal search strategy for all descriptors. Different semantic expansions should be used depending on the descriptor and the user’s objectives. Thus, we developed an interface that allows users to input a descriptor and then proposes the best semantic expansion to maximize the three main metrics (precision, recall, and F-measure).

Aim: The aim of this study is to analyze the epilepsy research output of Iran in national and global contexts, as reflected in its publication output indexed in Scopus citation database during 2000-2014.Methods: This study was based on the publications of epilepsy research from Iranian authors retrieved Feb. 2015 from Scopus Citation database [http://www.scopus.com]. The string used to retrieve the data was developed using “epilepsy OR epilepsies” keywords in title, abstract and keywords and Iran in affiliation field was our main string. Results: Cumulative publication output of Iran in epilepsy research consisted of 702 papers from 2000 to 2014, with an average number of 46.53 papers per year. The total publication output of Iran in epilepsy research increased from 2 papers in 2000 to 88 papers in 2014. Hence, with 702 paper, Iran ranked 25th among the top 25 countries with a global share of 0.82 %. Iranian publication average citation per paper increased from 0 in 2000 to 7.88 in 2014. Overall, the received citations were 3184 citations during those years. Conclusion: Iran is collaborating with 36 countries with no more than 244 of its papers (35% of its total papers). It is necessary to prepare conditions for epilepsy researchers to collaborate more with international scientific societies in order to produce more and high quality papers.

OBJECTIVE. The aim of this study is to investigate the frequency of incorrect citations and its effects on the impact factor of a specific biomedical journal: The American Journal of Roentgenology. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The Cited Reference Search function of Thomson Reuters' Web of Science database (formerly the Institute for Scientific Information's Web of Knowledge database) was used to identify erroneous citations. This was done by entering the journal name into the Cited Work field and entering "2011-2012" into the Cited Year(s) field. The errors in any part of the inaccurately cited references (e.g., author names, title, year, volume, issue, and page numbers) were recorded, and the types of errors (i.e., absent, deficient, or mistyped) were analyzed. Erroneous citations were corrected using the Suggest a Correction function of the Web of Science database. The effect of inaccurate citations on the impact factor of the AJR was calculated. RESULTS. Overall, 183 of 1055 citable articles published in 2011-2012 were inaccurately cited 423 times (mean [± SD], 2.31 ± 4.67 times; range, 1-44 times). Of these 183 articles, 110 (60.1%) were web-only articles and 44 (24.0%) were print articles. The most commonly identified errors were page number errors (44.8%) and misspelling of an author's name (20.2%). Incorrect citations adversely affected the impact factor of the AJR by 0.065 in 2012 and by 0.123 in 2013. CONCLUSION. Inaccurate citations are not infrequent in biomedical journals, yet they can be detected and corrected using the Web of Science database. Although the accuracy of references is primarily the responsibility of authors, the journal editorial office should also define a periodic inaccurate citation check task and correct erroneous citations to reclaim unnecessarily lost credit. © 2017 American Roentgen Ray Society.

Introduction: In the developing countries, diabetes mellitus as a chronic diseases, have replaced infectious diseases as the main causes of morbidity and mortality. International Diabetes Federation (IDF) recently estimates 382 million people have diabetes globally and more than 34.6 million people in the Middle East Region and this number will increase to 67.9 million by 2035. The aim of this study was to analyze Iran’s research performance on diabetes in national and international context. Methods: This Scientometric analysis is based on the Iranian publication data in diabetes research retrieved from the Scopus citation database till the end of 2014. The string used to retrieve the data was developed using “diabetes” keyword in title, abstract and keywords, and finally Iran in the affiliation field was our main string. Results: Iran’s cumulative publication output in diabetes research consisted of 4425 papers from 1968 to 2014, with an average number of 96.2 papers per year and an annual average growth rate of 25.5%. Iran ranked 25th place with 4425 papers among top 25 countries with a global share of 0.72 %. Average of Iran’s publication output was 6.19 citations per paper. The average citation per paper for Iranian publications in diabetes research increased from 1.63 during 1968-1999 to 10.42 for 2014. Conclusions: Although diabetic population of Iran is increasing, number of diabetes research is not remarkable. International Diabetes Federation suggested increased funding for research in diabetes in Iran for cost-effective diabetes prevention and treatment. In addition to universal and comprehensive services for diabetes care and treatment provided by Iranian health care system, Iranian policy makers should invest more on diabetes research.

Background: Biomedical semantic indexing is a very useful support tool for human curators in their efforts for indexing and cataloging the biomedical literature. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe a system to automatically assign Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) to biomedical articles from MEDLINE. Methods: Our approach relies on the assumption that similar documents should be classified by similar MeSH terms. Although previous work has already exploited the document similarity by using a k-nearest neighbors algorithm, we represent documents as document vectors by search engine indexing and then compute the similarity between documents using cosine similarity. Once the most similar documents for a given input document are retrieved, we rank their MeSH terms to choose the most suitable set for the input document. To do this, we define a scoring function that takes into account the frequency of the term into the set of retrieved documents and the similarity between the input document and each retrieved document. In addition, we implement guidelines proposed by human curators to annotate MEDLINE articles; in particular, the heuristic that says if 3 MeSH terms are proposed to classify an article and they share the same ancestor, they should be replaced by this ancestor. The representation of the MeSH thesaurus as a graph database allows us to employ graph search algorithms to quickly and easily capture hierarchical relationships such as the lowest common ancestor between terms. Results: Our experiments show promising results with an F1 of 69% on the test dataset. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that combines search and graph database technologies for the task of biomedical semantic indexing. Due to its horizontal scalability, ElasticSearch becomes a real solution to index large collections of documents (such as the bibliographic database MEDLINE). Moreover, the use of graph search algorithms for accessing MeSH information could provide a support tool for cataloging MEDLINE abstracts in real time.

Background: Self-management is essential to caring for high-need, high-cost (HNHC) populations. Advances in mobile phone technology coupled with increased availability and adoption of health-focused mobile apps have made self-management more achievable, but the extent and quality of the literature supporting their use is not well defined. Objective: The purpose of this review was to assess the breadth, quality, bias, and types of outcomes measured in the literature supporting the use of apps targeting HNHC populations. Methods: Data sources included articles in PubMed and MEDLINE (National Center for Biotechnology Information), EMBASE (Elsevier), the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (EBSCO), Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), and the NTIS (National Technical Information Service) Bibliographic Database (EBSCO) published since 2008. We selected studies involving use of patient-facing iOS or Android mobile health apps. Extraction was performed by 1 reviewer; 40 randomly selected articles were evaluated by 2 reviewers to assess agreement. Results: Our final analysis included 175 studies. The populations most commonly targeted by apps included patients with obesity, physical handicaps, diabetes, older age, and dementia. Only 30.3% (53/175) of the apps studied in the reviewed literature were identifiable and available to the public through app stores. Many of the studies were cross-sectional analyses (42.9%, 75/175), small (median number of participants=31, interquartile range 11.0-207.2, maximum 11,690), or performed by an app’s developers (61.1%, 107/175). Of the 175 studies, only 36 (20.6%, 36/175) studies evaluated a clinical outcome. Conclusions: Most apps described in the literature could not be located on the iOS or Android app stores, and existing research does not robustly evaluate the potential of mobile apps. Whereas apps may be useful in patients with chronic conditions, data do not support this yet. Although we had 2-3 reviewers to screen and assess abstract eligibility, only 1 reviewer abstracted the data. This is one limitation of our study. With respect to the 40 articles (22.9%, 40/175) that were assigned to 2 reviewers (of which 3 articles were excluded), inter-rater agreement was significant on the majority of items (17 of 30) but fair-to-moderate on others. The paper’s main objective is to investigate the trends of basic science research in India using a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. It examines the publication patterns and impact of research productivity of five basic science institutions, i.e., “Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research” (IISER), namely IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune, IISER Mohali, IISER Bhopal, and IISER Thiruvananthapuram. The research output indexed in the SCOPUS bibliographic database of these five established IISERs was obtained from 2015 to 2019. A total number of 7329 research publications were analysed using various scientometric dimensions. This paper makes a concerted effort to present a comprehensive picture of the assessment of research outcomes at the five older IISERs, which are ostensibly India’s most active and prominent basic science research institutions. The findings reveal that these institutions are accountable for important research outcomes, such as a high number of citations, preferences towards open access (OA) publications, a rise in research publication year over year, a strong author network, a high degree of collaboration, and a high impact in terms of other scientometrics indicators. This paper discusses the findings of the research publications on the position of IISERs in basic sciences research and draws some conclusions about their effects.

The present study explores the characteristics of publication records for a total duration of twenty years, from 2000 to 2019, in the field of Curcuma longa research. This study has been carried out based on the multidisciplinary bibliographic database available with the Web of Science in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and its implications, using the means of scientometrics research techniques. In order to make this analysis a holistic and comprehensive survey of the research trends in the chosen field, the following variables are taken into account: growth rate; global citation scores; distribution of publications by journals, conferences and institutions; favored media of communication; Hirsch index and citation profile of top institutions, countries and authors; contribution of funding agencies; high number of cited papers and characteristics of their bibliographic details. The total number of publication records has been found out to be 6087 during the study period. These 6087 publications have received 171 h-index, 1, 84,715 global citations score and 30.34 average citations. On the whole, 6087 records were published during the study period (2000-2019) in 18 types of documents from 107 countries with 2005 journals, contributed by as many as 20855 authors affiliated to 4879 institutions. These publications were brought out in 18 languages, and they received 1, 56,986 cited references. Majority of the records were in the form of journal articles, reviews, papers in conference proceedings and meeting abstracts, accounting for 97 percent of the total publications. Naturally enough, English happens to be the leading language of 98.8 percent to have accounted for the most number of publications. The four largest contributing countries in the total literature on Curcuma longa during the entire study period are India (24.68 percent), USA (17.7 percent), China (12.2 percent) and Iran (6.09 percent) respectively. The largest institutional contributor of publication records happens to be the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran with 1.8 percent of the papers to its credit. The most prolific authors to have published more number of research documents during the study period were Sahebkar A (73 papers), Aggarwal BB (67 papers), Nayak S (35 papers) and Kumar A (33 papers). The journal of “Food chemistry” Elsevier ltd tops the list of journals with maximum number of publication records in the field for the given study period with 70 publications, followed by “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” American Chemical Society (69 papers), “Phytotherapy Research” John Wiley and sons Ltd (63 papers) and “PLOS One” Public Library of Science (59 papers). While the Third World Congress on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants - WOCMAP III held in February 2003 at Thailand resulted in the publication of 6 papers, the following three major funding agencies contributed immensely to the research activities in the field: ‘National Natural Science Foundation of China’ with 318papers, United States Department of Health & Human Services, USA with 304 papers and Council of Scientific Industrial Research, India with 99 papers.

The paper presents the structure of a multilingual dictionary of keywords, which is an integral part of the bibliographic database of Slavic linguistics iSybislaw representing the digital information retrieval system (www.isybislaw.ispan.waw.pl). The lexical units (keywords) of the language of keywords used in the system are represented primarily by linguistic terms. In spite of a different denotation – the keywords directly denote sets of documents, and indirectly the non-documentary reality, while the terms denote elements of linguistic reality – they are formally equal with linguistic terms, which allows them to map the semantic field of a particular discipline, in this case Slavic linguistics. The dictionary is therefore a domain-based online specialist dictionary, which is a tool for users of the bibliographic database of Slavic linguistics. The dictionary is addressed to all those who deal with linguistics and linguistic terminology, first of all to scholar-linguists, Ph.D. students and students of philologies, as well as translators of academic papers in the field of linguistics., Rad prikazuje strukturu višejezičnoga rječnika ključnih riječi koji je sastavni dio bibliografske baze slavenske lingvistike iSybislaw (www.isybislaw.ispan.waw.pl). Ključne su riječi u bazi prije svega jezikoslovni nazivi. Označavaju skupove dokumenata i mapiraju semantičko polje posebne discipline, u ovome slučaju slavenskoga jezikoslovija. Rječnik je, dakle, internetski specijalni rječnik utemeljen na jezikoslovnoj domeni koji služi kao alat za korisnike bibliografske baze. Present paper attempts to highlights the contribution of Indian entomologists in Indian Science Abstract online database. As the ISA database is an open source, 5 years database was browsed and efforts were made to check the research papers related to entomology. As it was first attempt total 308 papers were traced. In the study few parameters were used such as orders of insects, sources of publications, papers written on different aspects and journals mostly preferred by the entomologists. In the findings it was found that entomologists mostly write research papers on the order lepidoptera and few others. In case of publications it was noticed that most papers are published in annals of plant protection and then the journal Pestology. Considering the overall picture of Indian entomologists, author would like to suggest, the effective awareness should be created among the students, researchers and faculty and also a few core journals should be subscribed in the academic colleges where the subject entomology is taught. Role of the library in documenting the scholarship of Lublin University of Technology academicsThe paper presents new functions and roles performed by Lublin University of Technology Library in context of the university parametric marks. A library has always played an important role in the scientific environment of universities. The primary aim of its activity is supporting the academics’ scientific performance. It has been done by providing the documentation of their scholarship. The composites of information on publications from various sources not only register the items but also positively influence the scholarly communications by enhancing discoverability. These databases, additionally equipped with tools necessary to analyse citations, start to play a more and more important role. Our bibliographic database has been enriched recently by new parametric indicators: journal mark indicators, citations, for example, according to the Web of Science. It allows the library to support the system of evaluation of scientific institutions conducted by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Poland. The paper presents a description of the important role played by the Scientific and Technical Information Department at the University as the main coordinator concern­ing documentation and information including parametric evaluation of the university 2013–2016.

SUMMARY A detailed analysis of MYCOLIT, a comprehensive bibliographic database of mycorrhizal research containing almost 12000 references, showed some interesting trends over the past 40 yr. During the last four decades, the average number of papers published per year were 84, 110, 214 and 488, respectively. The current rate of publication is about 700 papers per year. Much research has focused on nutrient dynamics, inoculum production, mycorrhiza formation, and morphology and physiology of both vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizas (VAM) and ectomycorrhizas (EM). There has been a shift of attention from EM to VAM since 1970. Very little work has been done on the other kinds of mycorrhizas. Barriers to progress in some areas, such as our inability to grow the Glomales in axenic culture, have stimulated a large number of methodological papers over the past decade, while the genetics and molecular biology, especially of VAM, have been neglected. Ecological studies were more numerous than any other kind. However, there was a bias towards laboratory studies as opposed to field studies. Within field studies, researchers focused on agricultural ecosystems, while neglecting disturbed and especially natural systems. This analysis also suggests that we may know less than we think about mycorrhizas, since we have consistently based broad hypotheses and conclusions on studies of a small number of taxa. Future research should be directed towards correcting the various imbalances revealed by this analysis.

A bibliographic database of scientific papers published by authors affiliated worldwide, especially focused in Europe and in the European Atlantic Area, and containing the keywords “microalga(e)” or “phytoplankton” was built. A corpus of 79,020 publications was obtained and analyzed using the Orbit Intellixir software to highlight the evolution of the research domain. Publication rates from 1960 to 2019, organization of the research, collaboration networks between countries and organizations, emerging and fading research concepts, major studied species, and associated concepts, as well as journals publishing microalgae research were considered. As a result, of the 79,020 papers published worldwide, 26,137 included authors from Europe (33% of world production) and 6989 from the European Atlantic Area (AA) (27% of European production, 9% of world production). The main worldwide scientific research topics found in this study were phytoplankton, community, bloom, diatoms, distribution, ecosystem, coastal, chlorophyll, zooplankton, photosynthesis, and primary production. At the European scale, the most studied topics were related to the environment, food, chemicals, pigments, protein, feed, and drugs. The highest scientific trends and market opportunities analysis identified bioplastics and biostimulants as top emerging concepts at the European level and agricultural, animal feed, and blue biotechnology at the European AA level.

The November 23rd, 1980 Irpinia-Basilicata (Southern Italy) earthquake is one of the strongest earthquakes ever occurred in Italy. The earthquake was a natural laboratory for the scientific community, which was engaged highly and promptly in investigating the event, thus publishing a flood of papers in different research areas over time. Just these research outputs are the focus of the article, which examines, with a tailored methodological approach, the international and national (Italian) studies started and advanced since the occurrence of the earthquake. First, we built and analyzed statistically two bibliographic databanks regarding the earthquake studies: (a) the international version of IRpinia Bibliographic databASE (IR_BASE_ENG), selecting and standardizing the pertinent scientific documents extracted from Scopus, Web of Science, and other databases and (b) the national version of the database (IR_BASE_IT) using the Google Scholar search engine to search for the most relevant papers in Italian. Second, IR_BASE_ENG was analyzed in a bibliometric perspective through the data mining VOSviewer software (Waltman et al., 2010) that builds co-occurrence term maps useful in perspective of investigating the wide-ranging studies on the earthquake. Third, taking a cue from this network analysis, we recognized the main research topics and performed a minireview of the related international studies, integrating in it a quick reference to the literature in Italian. Finally, we associated the scientific outputs to each cluster/topic, also performing the frequency analysis of the published documents for each subject, thus gaining information on the temporal trends of studies and getting a more exhaustive evidence of the scientific landscape on the earthquake over the last 40 years.

Gross et al. (2015) have demonstrated that about a quarter of hits would typically be lost to keyword searchers if contemporary academic library catalogs dropped their controlled subject headings. This paper reports on an analysis of the loss levels that would result if a bibliographic database, namely the Australian Education Index (AEI), were missing the subject descriptors and identifiers assigned by its professional indexers, employing the methodology developed by Gross and Taylor (2005), and later by Gross et al. (2015). The results indicate that AEI users would lose a similar proportion of hits per query to that experienced by library catalog users: on average, 27% of the resources found by a sample of keyword queries on the AEI database would not have been found without the subject indexing, based on the Australian Thesaurus of Education Descriptors (ATED). The paper also discusses the methodological limitations of these studies, pointing out that real-life users might still find some of the resources missed by a particular query through follow-up searches, while additional resources might also be found through iterative searching on the subject vocabulary. The paper goes on to describe a new research design, based on a before-and-after experiment, which addresses some of these limitations. It is argued that this alternative design will provide a more realistic picture of the value that professionally assigned subject indexing and controlled subject vocabularies can add to literature searching of a more scholarly and thorough kind.

Summary Purpose The aim of this "Year in Review" article is to summarize and discuss the implications of biochemical marker related articles published between the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) 2015 Congress in Seattle and the OARSI 2016 Congress in Amsterdam. Methods The PubMed/MEDLINE bibliographic database was searched using the combined keywords: ‘biomarker' and ‘osteoarthritis'. The PubMed/MEDLINE literature search was conducted using the Advanced Search Builder function (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/advanced). Results Over two hundred new biomarker-related papers were published during the literature search period. Some papers identified new biomarkers whereas others explored the biological properties and clinical utility of existing markers. There were specific references to several adipocytokines including leptin and adiponectin. ADAM Metallopeptidase with Thrombospondin Type 1 motif 4 (ADAMTS-4) and aggrecan ARGS neo-epitope fragment (ARGS) in synovial fluid (SF) and plasma chemokine (CeC motif) ligand 3 (CCL3) were reported as potential new knee biomarkers. New and refined proteomic technologies and novel assays including a fluoro-microbead guiding chip (FMGC) for measuring C-telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II) in serum and urine and a novel magnetic nanoparticle-based technology (termed magnetic capture) for collecting and concentrating CTX-II, were described this past year. Conclusion There has been steady progress in osteoarthritis (OA) biomarker research in 2016. Several novel biomarkers were identified and new technologies have been developed for measuring existing biomarkers. However, there has been no "quantum leap" this past year and identification of novel early OA biomarkers remains challenging. During the past year, OARSI published a set of recommendations for the use of soluble biomarkers in clinical trials, which is a major step forward in the clinical use of OA biomarkers and bodes well for future OA biomarker development.

Analyze the published literature on vallenata music. For this purpose, the literature published in the form of academic articles, articles of diffusion, journalistic articles, books, book chapters and presentations was identified, by means of the keywords "Music Vallenata"; "Vallenato Music"; "Vallenato and Music and Colombia"; "Music and Vallenato and Colombia" in catalogs of Colombian libraries, databases and Google Scholar. The results that were obtained were exported to a bibliographic database in EndNote X5. The data were analyzed with SPSS statistical software to identify trends in publication, journals and more productive authors, growth and collaboration. We found 276 papers published from 1962 to December 2015 by 209 authors, of which academic articles (54%) have been published in 108 periodicals, books (24%) and chapters of books (5%) Were published mostly in Spanish (97%). Most of the published documents are in single authorship, only 9% of the papers were published in collaboration. Los datos obtenidos se analizaron con el software estadístico SPSS para identificar tendencias de publicación, revistas y autores más productivos, crecimiento y colaboración. During the last decade, digitalization has borne tremendous changes on the way we live and do business. Industry 4.0, the new industrial revolution, is merging the physical, digital and virtual worlds through emerging technologies that collide with each other and create a distinctive paradigm shift. Even though the topic of Industry 4.0, has attracted significant attention during the past few years, literature in this subject area is still limited. The main objective of this paper is to study the current state of the art and identify major trends and research shortcomings. To that end, the authors conducted a methodological literature review based primarily on the SCOPUS bibliographic database. The review returned 49 relative papers dealing with the paper&rsquo, s subject area. Through a thorough study of the selected papers, four dominant literature categories were recognized and discussed in detail. According to the literature reviewed, it is evident that massive changes are underway for warehouses and intralogistics facilities. Still, despite the intense discussion and appeal of the subject, one of the most important challenges in the scientific area under study, as the literature highlights, is the absence of a matching, to its significance, number of real-life applications. To that end, this paper provides a detailed description of a Cloud-based IoT application drawn from a Distribution Center (DC) that supplies retail home furnishing and sporting goods products to stores in Greece and the Balkan region, with the objective to showcase the feasibility of such an investment, highlight its potential and provide motivation to practitioners to evaluate and proceed in similar technological investments.

That paper is motivated by the fact that the development of a joint consumption economy is one of the most significant trends in the modern economy. The object of the study is an array of publications indexed in Scopus and devoted to the analysis of the patterns of development a joint consumption economy (sharing economy) for the period from 2000 to 2019. The study shows a dynamic growth of the number of the publications describing the impact of new digital technologies and digital on-line technological platforms based on the Internet on fundamental changes in the field of individual consumption of households. The analysis of the content of publications of Russian and foreign authors indexed in Scopus database and Russian national bibliographic database (2000-2019) allowed the authors to identify at least the six key areas of modern research of a joint consumption economy. The paper considers each of the six key areas of a joint consumption economy. Authors has predicted the emergence of new areas of research of a joint consumption economy as new trends emerge in the field of individual consumption of modern households in the context of the constant progress of digital technologies.

Background: Online bibliographic databases are important tools in health sector for both literature research and clinical practices. They provide current scientific insight for evidence based medicine and have the potential to support clinicians by providing them with the information they need in a timely fashion. Objective: This study was carried out to assess the utilization of online bibliographic databases by medical doctors at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali. Methods: A mixed method (quantitative and qualitative) with a crosssectional design was used. Results: The study population was composed of 153 medical doctors and response rate was 53.5 %. The results of this study indicate that the most visited online bibliographic database is the Medline at the rate of 94% (N=82). More than 92% (N=82) of physicians at this hospital have computers with internet in their offices. Only 47.6% are able to use filters when they searching information to guide treatment. Physicians at the rate of 97.6 % (N=80) have used online bibliographic databases in the past six months and 96% (N=80) were satisfied with their expectations. The constraints they face when searching information, is lack of full access to some scientific medical journals. A key informant said: “The challenge is that some medical journals provide only abstracts. In this case it is not easy for physicians to access full papers or full books to find information for patient care”. Conclusion: The study concludes that physicians at University Teaching Hospital of Kigali use online bibliographic databases to guide treatment and Medline/Pubmed are the most used database. Nevertheless, there is gap in advanced searching skills among physicians. In terms of infrastructures the quality of internet bandwidth is another challenge. The study recommends continued sessions for literature search, as it is a key to practicing evidence-based medicine. The emergent concept of ‘ Big Data’ has shifted the paradigm from information retrieval to information extraction techniques. The information extraction techniques enables corpus analysis to draw useful interpretations and its possible applications. Selection of appropriate information extraction technique depends upon the type of data being dealt with and its possible applications. In an R&D environment, the published information is considered as an authenticated benchmark to study and analyse the growth pattern in that field of science, medicine, business. A rule based information extraction process, on the selected data extracted from a bibliographic database of published R&D papers is proposed in this paper. Aim of the study is to build up a database on relevant concepts, cleaning of retrieved data and automate the process of information retrieval in the local database. For this purpose, a concept based ‘subject profiles’ in the area of advanced semiconductors as well as the rules for text extraction from metadata retrieved from the bibliographic database was developed. This subset was used as an input to the knowledge domain to support R&D in the area of ‘advanced semiconductor materials and devices’ and provide information services on Intranet. Study found that concept based pattern matching on the datasets downloaded yielded better results as compared to the results by using the controlled vocabulary of the source database .

The data presented here are related to the research paper entitled “Economic Analysis of Natural Forest Disturbances: A Century of Research” (Montagne-Huck and Brunette, 2018). Natural disturbances have always affected forest ecosystems, altering or disrupting the flows of goods (wood, non-timber products, etc.) and services (scenic and recreation values, leisure pursuits, clean water, regulation of floods, etc.) provided by forests to human societies. Economic analysis can help private or public decision-makers take forest policy decisions by understanding the causes and consequences of forest disturbances, as well as evaluating tradeoffs in alternative policy scenarios. In consequence, the economic literature about natural disturbances is very rich and diversified. This paper describes a bibliographic database gathering some 340 scientific papers related to the economic analysis of forest natural disturbances. Papers have been inventoried primarily thanks to searches on databases (JSTOR, ScienceDirect, Ingentaconnect and NRC Research Press) using specific keywords and the dataset have been completed by searching through literature-cited sections of papers. Relevant papers have been manually encoded into a database (Excel file) taking into consideration each type of hazard (storm, fire, snow, pests and diseases, etc.) and different economic approaches. Data cover papers published in English from 1916 to 2014.

Decision makers in adult social care are increasingly interested in using evidence from research to support or shape their decisions. The scope and nature of the current landscape of adult social care research (ASCR) need to be better understood. This paper provides a bibliometric assessment of ASCR outputs from 1996 to 2011. ASCR papers were retrieved using three strategies: from key journals; using keywords and noun phrases; and from additional papers preferentially citing or being cited by other ASCR papers. Overall, 195,829 ASCR papers were identified in the bibliographic database Scopus, of which 16 per cent involved at least one author from the UK. The UK output increased 2.45-fold between 1996 and 2011. Among selected countries, those with greater research intensity in ASCR generally had higher citation impact, such as the USA, UK, Canada and the Netherlands. The top five UK institutions in terms of volume of papers in the UK accounted for 26 per cent of total output. We conclude by noting the limitations to bibliometric analysis of ASCR and examine how such analysis can support the strategic development of the field.

Purpose – This purpose of this study is to examine research performance of Iraqi-Kurdistan universities, using the number of papers appearing in journals and proceedings, and the number of citations received by those papers as covered by Scopus, 1970-2012. This study also identifies subject coverage (domain/field) of publications and determines the preference of research communication channel within the research community? Design/methodology/approach – A total of 459 papers published by Iraqi-Kurdistan universities and indexed by Scopus during the given time period were considered. The source items (i.e. records of publications by the faculty members of the Iraqi-Kurdistan universities) were all the documents published in international journals and proceedings indexed by Scopus (an Elsevier bibliographic database) from the time period ranging from 1970 to 2012. All papers having an authorship or a co-authorship associated with the Iraqi-Kurdistan universities were included and the number of citations received by them was counted for the period. Findings – The study found that major journals used by Iraqi-Kurdistan universities were Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal, Journal of Chinese Clinical Medicine, Asian Journal of Chemistry, Hemoglobin and Journal of Applied Sciences Research. Additionally, three older institutions (Salahaddin University-Hawler, University of Sulaimani and University of Duhok) were the most productive universities. Moreover, the study revealed that 237 of 459 (52 per cent) of publications have international collaborations. It is further evident that among the 459 publications, 211 (40 per cent) have been cited 1,020 times; while 248 (60 per cent) of the papers have not been cited even once, so about 60 per cent of the papers were invisible to world science during the study period. This study also noted that the 25 highly cited papers were cited 484 times, representing 47 per cent of all the citations (484 of 1,020). This indicated a concentration effect, whereby a relatively small number of papers earn most of the citations and research impact generated by the faculty members of Iraqi-Kurdistan universities. Originality/value – This is the first scientometric research to analyse Iraqi-Kurdistan universities’ scientific productivity.

The learning Analytics has been and is still an emerging technology, the amount of research on learning analysis are increasing every day. The integration of new tools, methods and theories is necessary. The aim of this paper is to study the approximation of Statistical Implicative Analysis theory (SIA) to Learning Analytics (LA). To this end, we have created an approximation framework based on the definition, stages, and methods used in LA. In total, three criteria approach and thirty-six sub-themes were compared. We use systematic review in the literature published in the last 66 months in bibliographic database ACM, EBSCO, Google Scholar, IEEE, ProQuest, Scopus and WOS. We started with 319 papers and finally 24 met all quality criteria. This document provides the themes by which SIA approximates to LA, also provides the percentages by category approach and identifies a number of future researches.

It was recently reported that men self-cite >50% more often than women across a wide variety of disciplines in the bibliographic database JSTOR. Here, we replicate this finding in a sample of 1.6 million papers from Author-ity, a version of PubMed with computationally disambiguated author names. More importantly, we show that the gender effect largely disappears when accounting for prior publication count in a multidimensional statistical model. Gender has the weakest effect on the probability of self-citation among an extensive set of features tested, including byline position, affiliation, ethnicity, collaboration size, time lag, subject-matter novelty, reference/citation counts, publication type, language, and venue. We find that self-citation is the hallmark of productive authors, of any gender, who cite their novel journal publications early and in similar venues, and more often cross citation-barriers such as language and indexing. As a result, papers by authors with short, disrupted, or diverse careers miss out on the initial boost in visibility gained from self-citations. Our data further suggest that this disproportionately affects women because of attrition and not because of disciplinary under-specialization.

Citation impact indicators nowadays play an important role in research evaluation, and consequently these indicators have received a lot of attention in the bibliometric and scientometric literature. This paper provides an in-depth review of the literature on citation impact indicators. First, an overview is given of the literature on bibliographic databases that can be used to calculate citation impact indicators (Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar). Next, selected topics in the literature on citation impact indicators are reviewed in detail. The first topic is the selection of publications and citations to be included in the calculation of citation impact indicators. The second topic is the normalization of citation impact indicators, in particular normalization for field differences. Counting methods for dealing with co-authored publications are the third topic, and citation impact indicators for journals are the last topic. The paper concludes by offering some recommendations for future research.

It has recently been shown that a person, an author particularly, faces the challenges of visualization in the cognitive process. The aim of this study is to consider the forms of thinking process and the changes happened in education process and in scientific activity. It was noted that the challenges connected with information perceiving during the work with the text occur in the process of creating academic papers as well. We conclude that the topical field of visualization covers not only the educative process assuming information transfer from person to person (model “teacher-student”), but the process of scientific activity. Applying the methods of visualization in publication activity is the factor for effective communication in social and cultural space that provides the opportunity for academic society to recognize results. We offer possible ways to promote scientific papers via online resources such as scientific social networks and tools of media corporations. The scientific social network ResearchGate and Thomson Reuters media corporation product as an online tool “Researcher ID” placed at the bibliographic database Web of Science TM Core Collection are used as the examples. We state that information technology allows authors to promote the results of their studies around the world.
