Background: Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) may lead to decreased quality of life (QOL) and increased anxiety and depression in patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT), possibly due to the lack of selectivity of the ablation tissue and the long ablation time. In recent years, pulsed field ablation (PFA) has been used for the first time in China to treat PSVT patients because of its ability to ablate abnormal tissue sites in a precise and transient manner. This study was conducted to compare the effects of PFA and RFCA on QOL and psychological symptoms of PSVT patients. Methods: We have designed a single-center, randomized, single-blind, standard-controlled trial. A total of 50 participants who met the eligibility criteria would be randomly allocated into the PFA group or RFCA group in a 1:1 ratio. All participants were assessed using the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) at pre-procedure (T0), post-procedure (T1), and 3 months post-procedure (T2). The SPSS 21.0 software was used to analyze the data through Wilcoxon and Fisher's exact tests and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: Twenty-five in the PFA group and 24 in the RFCA group completed the trial. SF-36: (1) Between-group comparison: At T1, PFA group had significantly higher SF-36 scores on physiological function (PF) and general health (GH) than RFCA group, with a treatment difference of 5.61 points and 18.51 points(P < 0.05). (2) Within-group comparison: We found that in the PFA and RFCA groups, T2 showed significant improvement in the remaining 6 subscales of the SF-36 scale compared to T1 and T0 (P < 0.05), except for body pain (BP) and social function (SF) scores. HADS: (1) Between-group comparison: no significant difference (P > 0.05). (2) Within-group comparison: The HADS scores of the PFA and RFCA groups were statistically significant at T2 compared to T0 and T1 (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Our study provided new and meaningful evidence that PFA was effective in significantly improving QOL and decreasing anxiety and depression in PFA patients. Background: Atractylodes chinensis (DC) Koidz., a dicotyledonous and hypogeal germination species, is an important medicinal plant because its rhizome is enriched in sesquiterpenes. The development and production of A. chinensis are negatively affected by drought stress, especially at the seedling stage. Understanding the molecular mechanism of A. chinensis drought stress response plays an important role in ensuring medicinal plant production and quality. In this study, A. chinensis seedlings were subjected to drought stress treatment for 0 (control), 3 (D3), and 9 days (D9). For the control, the sample was watered every two days and collected on the second morning after watering. The integration of physiological and transcriptomic analyses was carried out to investigate the effects of drought stress on A. chinensis seedlings and to reveal the molecular mechanism of its drought stress response. Results: The malondialdehyde, proline, soluble sugar, and crude protein contents and antioxidative enzyme (superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase) activity were significantly increased under drought stress compared with the control. Transcriptomic analysis indicated a total of 215,665 unigenes with an average length of 759.09 bp and an N50 of 1140 bp. A total of 29,449 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were detected between the control and D3, and 14,538 DEGs were detected between the control and D9. Under drought stress, terpenoid backbone biosynthesis had the highest number of unigenes in the metabolism of terpenoids and polyketides. To identify candidate genes involved in the sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathways, we observed 22 unigene-encoding enzymes in the terpenoid backbone biosynthetic pathway and 15 unigene-encoding enzymes in the sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathways under drought stress. Conclusion: Our study provides transcriptome profiles and candidate genes involved in sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthesis in A. chinensis in response to drought stress. [Display omitted] The development of interfacial engineering was crucial for achieving the industrialization of high-performance carbon fiber/phenolic composites. In this study, establishing scalable interpenetrating networks (cellulose nanofiber-zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8/aramid nanofiber-boron nitride) on the fiber/matrix interphase, was in favor of realizing precise repairation of interfacial defects, further regulating thermal conductivity, mechanical and tribological properties of the composites. Based on the physical and chemical bridging-effects arising from above spider-web networks, the flexural strength and modulus of modified sample were 74.69 MPa and 6.22 GPa, showing an increase of 135.99% and 56.68%, respectively. Meanwhile, this trans-scale spider-web structure acted as a micron skeleton-nano unit continuous thermal conductive network, significantly reduced phonon scattering and displayed a 258.33% enhancement in the thermal management capability of modified sample. This study reveals key design principles of trans-scale interfacial structure to dynamicly regulate performances and meet service requirements of next-generation carbon fiber/phenolic composites. Background: M. leprae preferentially infects Schwann cells (SCs) in the peripheral nerves leading to nerve damage and irreversible disability. Knowledge of how M. leprae infects and interacts with host SCs is essential for understanding mechanisms of nerve damage and revealing potential new therapeutic strategies. Methodology/Principal findings: We performed a time-course single-cell sequencing analysis of SCs infected with M. leprae at different time points, further analyzed the heterogeneity of SCs, subpopulations associated with M. leprae infection, developmental trajectory of SCs and validated by Western blot or flow cytometry. Different subpopulations of SCs exhibiting distinct genetic features and functional enrichments were present. We observed two subpopulations associated with M. leprae infection, a stem cell-like cell subpopulation increased significantly at 24 h but declined by 72 h after M. leprae infection, and an adipocyte-like cell subpopulation, emerged at 72 h post-infection. The results were validated and confirmed that a stem cell-like cell subpopulation was in the early stage of differentiation and could differentiate into an adipocyte-like cell subpopulation. Conclusions/Significance: Our results present a systematic time-course analysis of SC heterogeneity after infection by M. leprae at single-cell resolution, provide valuable information to understand the critical biological processes underlying reprogramming and lipid metabolism during M. leprae infection of SCs, and increase understanding of the disease-causing mechanisms at play in leprosy patients as well as revealing potential new therapeutic strategies. From the perspective of mysticism, the interpretation of zuowang 坐忘 as the breath-meditation technique with a transcendental goal establishes the religious basis of Zhuangzi's cultivation. In contrast, most Chinese scholars argue instead that zuowang is primarily the mental state independent of meditative techniques, and that the techniques are devoid of philosophical significance. The pivot of the two seemingly irreconcilable views is the holistic concept of qi 氣. Combining the two interpretations can lead to a consummate understanding. There is an innate connection between the physical and nonphysical qi, and the latter can be considered as the root and basis. Deep exploration of the mysticism paradigm represented by Harold Roth reveals that the interpretation of meditative techniques is a necessary step in gaining mystical experiences not contradictory to the one that construes it as mental cultivation. The mind–body transformation shows that the pursuit of authenticity and wholeness of humanity can broaden one's concern with fellow human beings and other realms of existence, as the same process is followed in the perpetual growth and change of the universe. This allows us to experience resonance with the universe toward the goal of "the unity of self" so to speak. The religiousness of Zhuangzi's cultivation is, thus, substantiated. Background. Acute monocytic leukemia belongs to type M5 of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) classified by FAB, which appears a high incidence of extramedullary infiltration (EMI) and poor prognosis. In this study, we observed the inhibitory effect of ginsenoside Rk3 on the EMI of monocytic leukemia cells and initially explored its related mechanism of targeting the miR-3677-5p/CXCL12 axis. Methods. The MTT assay and colony formation assay were used to detect the inhibitory effect of Rk3 on proliferation. Both cellular migration and invasion were observed by the Transwell assay. The expression levels of miR-3677-5p, CXCL12, and CXCR4 were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blot, as well as overexpression of miR-3677-5p by transfected with lentivirus and detection of a dual luciferase reporter gene. The expression of MMP2 and TIMP2 was detected by immunofluorescence. Results. Rk3 effectively inhibits the proliferation, migration, and invasion associated with EMI of leukemia. The leukemia cells of M5 patients with EMI showed low expression of miR-3677-5p but high expression of the mRNA of CXCL12 and CXCR4. Overexpression of miR-3677-5p or intervention of CXCL12 effectively inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SHI-1 cells. The luciferase assay showed that CXCL12 was the downstream target gene of miR-3677-5p. After overexpression of miR-3677-5p or intervention of CXCL12 in combination with Rk3, the inhibitory effect on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SHI-1 cells was more obvious. Importantly, Rk3 significantly regulated the expression levels of miR-3677-5p, CXCL12, CXCR4, and EMI-related functional proteins including MMP2 and TIMP2. Overexpression of miR-3677-5p or intervention of CXCL12 also regulated the expression of MMP2 and TIMP2. Conclusions. The leukemia cells of M5 patients with EMI appeared to have low expression of miR-3677-5p and high expression of the mRNA of CXCL12 and CXCR4, which may be used as indicators of EMI and poor prognosis. Ultra-low density nanoaerogels as the lightest solid material have aroused extensive attention. However, lacking crack extension resistance limited their further development and application. Here, aramid and cellulose wastes were recycled to prepare high value-added nanofibers, which were further self-assembled to construct multilfunctional hybrid aerogels. In-situ growth of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) on the cellulose nanofiber (CNF) created a robust skeleton. Flexible aramid nanofibers (ANF), as burgeoning building blocks were employed to inlay into the microscopic skeleton structure for establishing micro-nano double networks. Benefiting from the existence of multiscale networks, the maximum value in the compressive stress of S 0 , S 1 , S 2 and S 3 increased from 2.74 to 4.63, 5.19 and 6.61 MPa, respectively. Meanwhile, ANF-ZIF-8-CNF hybrid aerogels exhibited low thermal conductivity of 3.58–3.97 × 10-2 W/(m⋅K). The significant increase in the specific surface area (481.46 m2/g) endowed hybrid aerogels with high adsorption abilities for nitrogen (280.83 cm3/g), prussian blue (34.12 mg⋅g−1), rhodamine B (37.30 mg⋅g−1), DMF (25.13 g⋅g−1) and DMSO (15.48 g⋅g−1), respectively. This work presents a systematic investigation of the spectroscopic properties at anharmonic force fields of ground electronic state ( X ˜ 1 A 1 ) of LiNH2, which are calculated using second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) and density functional theory (DFT) with hybrid GGA and meta-hybrid GGA (M06-2X) exchange-correlation functional. Two high angular momentum basis sets of 6-311+g (2d, p) and 6-311++g (3df, 2pd) are used. The equilibrium geometries, ground-state rotational constants, harmonic frequencies, and quartic and sextic centrifugal distortion constants of LiNH2 are calculated and compared with corresponding experimental or theoretical data. The predicted accuracy of the calculated constants has been confirmed by analyzing the deviations with respect to experiment. In addition, the anharmonic constants, vibration-rotation interaction constants, force constants, and Coriolis coupling constants of LiNH2 are firstly obtained. The infrared spectrum is predicted and together with the first prediction on the higher-order anharmonic constants contributes to a better understanding of the vibrational and rotational characteristics of LiNH2, thus revealing its internal structure. The mechanism of pulmonary fibrosis caused by irradiation remains obscure. Since rosmarinic acid (RA) have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, we aimed to evaluate the effect of RA on the X-ray-induced lung injury. Male rats received RA (30, 60, or 120 mg/kg) 7 days before 15 Gy of X-ray irradiation. Here, we showed that RA reduced X-ray-induced the expression of inflammatory related factors, and the level of reactive oxygen species. RA down-regulated the phosphorylation of nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB). We found that thoracic tumor patients whose lung regions received radiation showed lower level of microRNA-19b-3p (miR-19b-3p). Furthermore, we provided evidence that miR-19b-3p targets myosin phosphatase target subunit 1 (MYPT1), and RA attenuated RhoA/Rock signaling through upregulating miR-19b-3p, leading to the inhibition of fibrosis. Objective. An artificial liver support system (ALSS) is an effective therapy for patients with severe liver injury. A vasovagal reaction (VVR) is a common complication in various treatment settings but has not been reported previously in ALSS. Methods. This study retrospectively evaluated patients who suffered an ALSS-related VRR between January 2018 and June 2019. We collected data from VVR episodes including onset time, duration, changes in heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP), and drug treatment. Results. Among 637 patients who underwent ALSS treatment, 18 were included in the study. The incidence of VVR was approximately 2.82%. These patients were characterized by a rapid decrease in BP or HR with associated symptoms such as chest distress, nausea, and vomiting. The majority of patients (78%) suffered a VVR during their first ALSS treatment. Sixteen patients (89%) had associated symptoms after treatment began. Sixteen patients (89%) received human albumin or Ringer's solution. Atropine was used in 11 patients (61%). The symptoms were relieved within 20 min in 15 patients and over 20 min in 3 patients. Conclusions. A VVR is a rare complication in patients with severe liver injury undergoing ALSS treatment. Low BP and HR are the main characteristics of a VVR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Transdermal drug delivery system has been researched for a long time because of its advantage in decreasing side effects such as nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal disturbance. Sonophoresis has been shown to be very effective in promoting the transdermal delivery of drugs. This study is on purpose to research the feasibility of sonophoresis promoting cisplatin in the treatment of cervical cancer and the optimum drug delivery mode. Methods: Thirty-two female nude-mice model of cervical cancer were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=8 in each group): control group without any intervention, low, medium and high concentration groups were treated with the corresponding cisplatin concentrations of 0.2mg/mL, 0.4mg/mL and 0.8mg/mL, respectively, with concurrent sonophoresis applied on the skin of local tumor, 1 mL at a time, once a day for a total of 5 days. Therapeutic pulsed ultrasound (TPU) was 1.0 MHz, 2.0 W/cm2 and 60-min duration. Weight of mice and tumor diameters were measured every day during the intervention. The concentration of cisplatin in tumors was detected by HPLC. Meanwhile, tumor, skin, liver and kidney gross structures and ultrastructure were observed in order to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of experimental conditions. In addition, apoptosis and proliferation-related factors (MPO, Caspase-3, PCNA) were detected by immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and TUNEL assay. Results: The weight of nude mice in each group showed an increasing trend, except for a decrease of weight in the 0.8 mg/mL group. No obvious tumor inhibition effect was observed. Cisplatin was detected in the 0.4 mg/mL group and 0.8 mg/mL group, with relative concentrations of 0.081± 0.033 mg/mL and 0.111± 0.021 mg/mL, respectively. Both skin and kidney inflammation were observed in the 0.8 mg/mL group. The expression of MPO, caspase-3 and TUNEL was concentration dependent, with the highest expression in the 0.8 mg/mL group, followed by the 0.4 mg/mL group, with no significant differences between the control and the 0.2 mg/mL group. PCNA was highly expressed in both the control and 0.2 mg/mL groups but decreased in the 0.4 mg/mL and 0.8 mg/mL groups. Conclusion: Sonophoresis enhanced transdermal delivery of cisplatin in a xenograft tumor model of cervical cancer. The increasing penetration of variable energy resources in modern electric power systems requires additional flexibility in reserve provision to maintain reliable and efficient grid operations. However, full recognition and appropriate compensation of this flexibility is difficult to ensure within current power market designs due to rigidity in reserve definitions and requirements. This paper proposes a new mixed-integer linear programming formulation for the optimal clearing of a day-ahead market based on swing contracts with dynamically updated regulation reserve zones. Background: The existence of aggressive behavior in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) raises questions about whether cognitive and emotional factors in social information processing play a role between autistic traits (ATs) and aggressive behavior in the general population, especially in the context of Chinese culture. Moreover, given a possible gender difference in these variables, the study aimed to examine the effect of ATs on aggressive behavior, and the potential mediating role of hostile attribution bias and alexithymia on this association, as well as gender difference. Methods: 850 Chinese college students participated in the assessment, including their ATs, hostile attribution bias, alexithymia, and aggressive behavior. Pearson correlation, mediation effects analyses, and multiple-group comparison were conducted. Results: The results indicated that ATs indirectly predicted increased aggressive behavior through attribution bias and alexithymia. Gender difference in mediating effects was revealed: ATs indirectly predicted increased aggressive behavior through the serial mediating effect only in males. Conclusion: Hostile attribution bias and alexithymia completely mediated the association between ATs and aggressive behavior, which contained the separate mediating effects of (a) hostile attribution bias and (b) alexithymia and the serial mediating effect of (c) hostile attribution bias and alexithymia. Gender differences in mediating effects were found only in the serial mediating effect, which was significant in males but not in females. The findings revealed the internal mechanism of ATs affecting aggressive behavior and gender difference, which have implications for the intervention of aggressive behavior of individuals with autism and those with high levels of ATs. Climatic hazards, such as hurricanes and ice storms, pose a top threat to power distribution systems. This paper proposes a resilience-enhancing strategy to make distribution systems more resilient to climatic hazards. The proposed strategy consists of three resilience-oriented design (ROD) measures, namely line hardening, installing backup distributed generators (DGs), and adding automatic switches. The main challenges of this problem are modeling the spatio-temporal correlation among ROD decisions and uncertainties, capturing the entire failure-recovery-cost process, and solving the resultant large-scale mixed-integer stochastic problem efficiently. To deal with these challenges, we propose a hybrid stochastic process with deterministic casual structure to model the spatio-temporal correlations of uncertainties. A new two-stage stochastic mixed-integer linear program is formulated to capture the impacts of ROD decisions and uncertainties on system's responses to climatic hazards. The objective is to minimize the ROD investment cost in the first stage and the expected costs of loss of load, DG operation, and damage repairs in the second stage. A dual decomposition algorithm with branch-and-bound is developed to solve the proposed model with binary variables in both stages. This paper proposes a novel method to co-optimize the distribution system operation and repair crew routing for outage restoration after extreme weather events. A two-stage stochastic mixed integer linear program is developed. The first stage is to dispatch the repair crews to the damaged components. The second stage is distribution system restoration using distributed generators, and reconfiguration. We consider demand uncertainty in terms of a truncated normal forecast error distribution, and model the uncertainty of the repair time using a lognormal distribution. A new decomposition approach, combined with the progressive hedging algorithm, is developed for solving large-scale outage management problems in an effective and timely manner. This paper proposes a resilience-oriented design (ROD) technique to protect distribution grids against high-impact but low-probability extreme weather events. The problem is formulated as a two-stage stochastic mixed integer problem. The first stage is to make ROD decisions, i.e., hardening existing distribution lines and deploying ROD resources such as back-up distributed generators and automatic switches. The second stage evaluates the system operation cost during a realized extreme weather event and repair cost after the event. A novel modeling strategy is proposed to deal with the decision-dependent uncertainty of distribution line damage status, which is affected by the first-stage hardening decisions. As both stages have binary variables, a modified and computationally efficient progressive hedging algorithm with scenario bundling is introduced. Light-weight and high-modulus carbon fiber/phenolic composites, were in large demand of heavy-loading engineering, vehicles and aerospace fields. However, the limitation in the weak interface would cause serious stress concentration and structural failure of materials. Herein, aramid nanofiber (ANF) and cellulose nanofiber (CNF) as flexible units, and zeolitic imidazolate frameworks-8 (ZIF-8) as a rigid unit, were employed to establish a trans -scale reinforced structure on the interphase for balancing the modulus of fibers/resin and improving interfacial properties of the composites. This flexible-rigid (ANF/CNF-ZIF-8) scalable structure, contributed to the integration of various components and forming effective bonds between fibers and the matrix, further promoting mechanical and tribological performances of the composites. Due to the trans -scale interface enhancement of this unique flexible-rigid structure, the flexural strength of 30%ANF-ZIF-8-composite (S 1-3) and 30%CNF-ZIF-8-composite (S 2-3) improved by 77.68% and 88.46%, respectively. Meanwhile, the elastic modulus of S 1-3 and S 2-3 reached 5.41 and 5.40 GPa, indicating a significant ascent of 137.28% and 136.84%, respectively. This work provides a promising and effective strategy of constructing a flexible-rigid scalable interfacial structure and opens an avenue toward the large-scale fabrication of new-generation advanced materials. In this study, we develop a facile one-pot approach to the fabrication of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) microsphere-incorporated calcium alginate (ALG-Ca)/hydroxyapatite (HAp) porous scaffolds based on HAp nanoparticle-stabilized oil-in-water Pickering emulsion templates, which contain alginate in the aqueous phase and PLLA in the oil phase. The emulsion aqueous phase is solidified by in situ gelation of alginate with Ca 2+ released from HAp by decreasing pH with slow hydrolysis of d -gluconic acid δ-lactone (GDL) to produce emulsion droplet-incorporated gels, followed by freeze-drying to form porous scaffolds containing microspheres. The pore structure of porous scaffolds can be adjusted by varying the HAp or GDL concentration. The compressive tests show that the increase of HAp or GDL concentration is beneficial to improve the compressive property of porous scaffolds, while the excessive HAp can lead to the decrease in compressive property. Moreover, the swelling behavior studies display that the swelling ratios of porous scaffolds reduce with increasing HAp or GDL concentration. Furthermore, hydrophobic drug ibuprofen (IBU) and hydrophilic drug bovine serum albumin (BSA) are loaded into the microspheres and scaffold matrix, respectively. In vitro drug release results indicate that BSA has a rapid release while IBU has a sustained release in the dual drug-loaded scaffolds. In vitro cell culture experiments verify that mouse bone mesenchymal stem cells can proliferate on the porous scaffolds well, indicating the good biocompatibility of porous scaffolds. All these results demonstrate that the PLLA microsphere-incorporated ALG-Ca/HAp porous scaffolds have a promising potential for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. Objective. The aim of this study was to compare clinical outcomes of three therapeutic strategies in patients with stage IB2/IIA2 cervical cancer. Methods. This is a retrospective cohort study. Patients diagnosed with stage IB2/IIA2 cervical cancer between April 2010 and December 2015 at First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University were included and classed into three groups. The primary outcomes were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary outcomes included toxicity, hospitalization costs, clinical value, and length of stay. Results. 206 patients were included: 104 used primary surgical treatment (PST), 53 used neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical surgery (NAC + RS), and 49 used concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Fewer patients with NAC + RS had deep cervical stromal invasion than primary surgical treatment (PST) (P = 0.024). 70.2% of PST and 77.4% in NAC + RS required postoperative radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy (P = 0.634). Median follow-up was 57 months and the 3-year OS and PFS in PST, NAC + RS, and CCRT group were 87.5%, 84.9%, 85.7% and 85.6%, 79.2%, 85.7% (P = 0.856 and P = 0.424 , respectively). Three therapeutic strategies were not associated with OS and PFS. Hospitalization costs were significantly higher in NAC + RS compared to PST (P < 0.001) and CCRT (P < 0.001). Length of stay in NAC + RS was longer than PST (P < 0.001) and CCRT group (P = 0.07). Conclusion. The results of this study tend to suggest that the three therapeutic strategies were equivalent treatment options for patients with 2009 FIGO stage IB2/IIA2 cervical cancer. Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and the three related peptides urocortins 1–3 (UCN1–UCN3) are endocrine hormones that control the stress responses by activating CRF1R and CRF2R, two members of class B G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Here, we present two cryoelectron microscopy (cryo-EM) structures of UCN1-bound CRF1R and CRF2R with the stimulatory G protein. In both structures, UCN1 adopts a single straight helix with its N terminus dipped into the receptor transmembrane bundle. Although the peptide-binding residues in CRF1R and CRF2R are different from other members of class B GPCRs, the residues involved in receptor activation and G protein coupling are conserved. In addition, both structures reveal bound cholesterol molecules to the receptor transmembrane helices. Selenium (Se) might be protective against oxidative stress at nutritional levels, but elevated Se concentrations in the diet has been revealed as the main culprit for the extinction of natural fish populations in Se-contaminated lakes. Though Se predominate as waterborne selenite (IV) and selenate (VI) in the water, the differences in bioaccumulation, effects (e.g., oxidative stress, antioxidants etc.) and molecular mechanisms between Se(IV) and Se(VI) have been relatively understudied in wild fish. In this study, the P. parva were exposed to waterborne Se (10, 200 and 1000 μg/L of Se(IV) or Se(VI)) and sampled at 4, 14 and 28 days. Bioaccumulation, tissue distributions of Se and following effects in different tissues were evaluated. The results showed that the levels of Se in the gills and intestine were significantly elevated with a seemingly concentration-dependent pattern in the Se(IV) treatment, with respectively 173.3% and 57.2% increase after 28 days of exposure, relative to that of Se(VI) treatment. Additionally, significant accumulation of Se was also observed in the muscle of Se(IV) treated fish. Se exposure increased the MDA levels in the brain and gills in the Se(IV) treatment, but less apparent in the Se(VI) treatment. Meanwhile, Se exposure lowered (at least 56%) the activity of GST in the gills, but increased the activity of AChE in the muscle (~69%) and brain (~50%) after 28 d. Most importantly, after 28 d of exposure, Se exposure caused significant decrease in GSH levels in the gills (at least 35%) and in all tissues examined at the highest test concentration. In general, the results showed that Se(IV) led to faster accumulation of Se than Se(VI) in P. parva, and the resulted lipid peroxidation was closely related to the levels of antioxidants, especially GSH. This paper addresses the pricing and coordination strategy in a green supply chain in which a manufacturer produces a green product and sells it to a risk-averse retailer. The product's demand is a random variable influenced by the green level and the retail price. The problem is modeled in three different structures, a centralized and two decentralized models, in which the upstream manufacturer and the downstream retailer act as the channel leader, respectively. This paper presents the optimal decisions for all supply chain members, analyzes the effects of green degree and risk-averse coefficient on the supply chain members' decision-making and their profits, and performs the numerical analysis. The results show that the green degree and the whole supply chain's expected profits are highest in the centralized scenario, followed by the retailer-led scenario, and lowest under the manufacturer-led scenario; the green degree and the manufacturer's expected profit increase with the risk-averse coefficient, no matter who dominates the channel; however, the risk-averse coefficient's effects on the retailer's expected utility and the retail price depends on who dominates the channel and on the greening investment parameter. Background: Adult secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a potentially life-threatening syndrome characterized by excessive activation of mononuclear-phagocytic system resulting in hyperinflammatory response. To date, the factors influencing early death of HLH are still not fully elucidated. Patients and Methods: We did a retrospective study of 171 adult patients with newly diagnosed HLH at our institution from January 2012 to April 2018. All patients' clinical features, laboratory findings, treatments and prognosis were reviewed. Results: The median age was 49 years (range, 18–88 years), and 110 (64.3%) were male. The major underlying trigger of HLH was malignancy (88/171, 51.5%), especially non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In a multivariate analysis, age ≥54 years (P = 0.002), platelet ≤39.5 × 109/L (P = 0.028), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) ≥54 sec (P = 0.048), triglyceride ≥3.23 mmol/L (P < 0.001), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) ≥1300 U/L (P = 0.012) and malignancy (P = 0.001) were significantly associated with early death in HLH. Then, patients were classified into four groups according to the number of risk factors at the time of diagnosis: low risk (zero, one or two risk factors), low intermediate risk (three risk factors), high intermediate risk (four risk factors) and high risk (at least five risk factors), with the 30-day overall survival (OS) of 92.4%, 58.8%, 30.0% and 4.8%, respectively (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Patients with old age, thrombocytopenia, prolonged APTT, hypertriglyceridemia, elevated LDH and malignancy had inferior survival. Purpose: The prognostic factors for diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) have been fully explored, but prognostic information for bulky mass DLBCL patients is limited. This study aimed to analyze the prognostic value of MYC protein expression and other biological parameters in bulky mass DLBCL patients. Methods: We defined a bulky mass as a maximum tumor diameter ≥7.5 cm and studied 227 patients with de novo bulky mass DLBCL. Results: In all patients with bulky mass DLBCL, the 1‐year and 3‐year OS rates were 72.7% and 57.1%, respectively, and the 1‐year and 3‐year PFS rates were 52.0% and 42.5%, respectively. The MYC overexpression group (n = 140) showed significantly worse overall survival (OS; p = 0.019) and progression‐free survival (PFS; p = 0.001) than the non‐MYC overexpression group (n = 87). Subgroup analyses demonstrated that the MYC overexpression group was associated with inferior OS and PFS in the subgroups with the International Prognostic Index score of 3–5 (OS: p = 0.011; PFS: p < 0.001), Ann Arbor stage 3–4 (OS: p = 0.014; PFS: p < 0.001) and GCB subtype (OS: p = 0.014; PFS: p = 0.010). Consolidation radiotherapy improved OS and PFS in patients with bulky mass DLBCL (OS: p = 0.008; PFS: p = 0.004) as well as in those with MYC overexpression (OS: p = 0.001; PFS: p = 0.001). The prognostic value of MYC overexpression was maintained in a multivariate model adjusted for the International Prognostic Index. Conclusion: MYC overexpression is a poor predictor for bulky mass DLBCL patients. Phenylketonuria (PKU) is the most common inherited metabolic disease, an autosomal recessive disorder affecting >10,000 newborns each year globally. It can be caused by over 1000 different naturally occurring mutations in the phenylalanine hydroxylase ( PAH ) gene. We analyzed three novel naturally occurring PAH gene variants: p.Glu178Lys (c.532G>A), p.Val245Met (c.733G>A) and p.Ser250Phe (c.749C>T). The mutant effect on the PAH enzyme structure and function was predicted by bioinformatics software. Vectors expressing the corresponding PAH variants were generated for expression in E. coli and in HEK293T cells. The RNA expression of the three PAH variants was measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The mutant PAH protein levels were determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), western blot and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). All three variants were predicted to be pathogenic by bioinformatics analysis. The transcription of the three PAH variants was similar to the wild type PAH gene in HEK293T cells. In contrast, the levels of mutant PAH proteins decreased significantly compared to the wild type control, in both E. coli and HEK293T cells. Our results indicate that the three novel PAH gene variants (p.Glu178Lys, p.Val245Met, p.Ser250Phe) impair PAH protein expression and function in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. The construction of a p-n heterojunction structure is considered to be an effective method to improve the separation of electron-hole pairs in photocatalysts. A series of ZnIn 2 S 4 /CoFe 2 O 4 (ZIS/CFO) photocatalysts with p-n heterojunctions were prepared via a method involving ultrasonication and calcination. The synthesized photocatalysts were tested and analyzed via various testing techniques, and their hydrogen evolution rates were evaluated. Compared with pure ZIS, ZIS/CFO with different mass ratios of CFO to ZIS showed improved photocatalytic hydrogen production performance, and the optimal photoactivity showed a nearly 12-fold increase, which can be attributed to the formation of p-n junctions and the formed internal electric field, accelerating the separation of electron-hole pairs and effectively improving the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate. The excellent stability of the ZIS/CFO composite was proven by three cycle experiments. In addition, the ZIS/CFO composite also possessed excellent magnetic properties to realize facial magnetic recoverability. Neurodegenerative diseases are common, incurable neurological disorders with high prevalence, and lead to memory, movement, language, and intelligence impairments, threatening the lives and health of patients worldwide. The blood–brain barrier (BBB), a physiological barrier between the central nervous system and peripheral blood circulation, plays an important role in maintaining the homeostasis of the intracerebral environment by strictly regulating the transport of substances between the blood and brain. Therefore, it is difficult for therapeutic drugs to penetrate the BBB and reach the brain, and this affects their efficacy. Nanoparticles (NPs) can be used as drug transport carriers and are also known as nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems (NDDSs). These systems not only increase the stability of drugs but also facilitate the crossing of drugs through the BBB and improve their efficacy. In this article, we provided an overview of the types and administration routes of NPs, highlighted the preclinical and clinical studies of NDDSs in neurodegenerative diseases, and summarized the combined therapeutic strategies in the management of neurodegenerative diseases. Finally, the prospects and challenges of NDDSs in recent basic and clinical research were also discussed. Using microalgae to treat wastewater has received growing attention in the world because it is regarded as a novel means for wastewater treatment. It is commonly recognized that large-scale cultivation and commercial application of microalgae are limited by the development of photobioreactor (PBR). Although there are a lot of PBRs for microalgae pure cultivation which used culture medium, specialized PBRs designed for wastewater treatment are rare. The composition of wastewater is quite complicated; this might cause a very different photosynthetic effect of microalgae compared to those grown in a pure cultivation medium. Therefore, PBRs for wastewater treatment need to be redesigned and improved based on the existing PBRs that are used for microalgae pure cultivation. In this review, different PBRs for microalgae cultivation and wastewater treatment are summarized. PBR configurations, PBR design parameters and types of wastewater are presented. In addition, the wastewater treatment efficiency and biomass productivity were also compared among each type of PBRs. Moreover, some other promising PBRs are introduced in this review, and a two-stage cultivation mode which combines both closed and open system is discussed as well. Ultimately, this article focuses on current problems and gives an outlook for this field, aiming at providing a primary reference for microalgae cultivation by using wastewater. The extracellular matrix (ECM) serves as a natural scaffold for cells to fulfill physiological functions such as adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) emerges as a promising biomaterial generated through specific tissue or organ decellularization. Leveraging 3D bioprinting technology, dECM-based biomaterials enable customized printing and construction. This study reviews various decellularization techniques, post-decellularization strategies, and commonly used 3D bioprinting technologies. It summarizes the integration of dECM-based biomaterials with 3D bioprinting technology applied in musculoskeletal system research. Joule heating caused by electric currents is a major problem in scale-up electrochromatography. Here, to predict the temperature effects of lateral electric field electrochromatography and the process conditions required, a mathematical heat transfer model was established, which took into account the physical characteristics, including the electrical conductivity, of the porous medium and the ceramic plate in the gel chamber. The temperatures calculated using this model were within 4 °C of the experimentally measured results. For the lateral enlargement simulation of short columns (4 cm), it was found that when the width was enlarged to > 3 cm, the outlet temperature on the center line did not increase with increasing width. The electric field strength of 1700 V/m was maintained by increasing current strength according to the column size; further, when the gel chamber was enlarged to 0.075 × 0.075 × 0.1 m3, its internal temperature can be controlled within 16 °C under certain operating conditions, and an electric field strength of 1700 V/m can be obtained in the gel chamber. • Electrochromatography in a transverse electric field was mathematically modelled. • Use of a transverse electric field leads to less Joule heating than an axial field. • Scale-up electrochromatography was successfully performed using the model. Alzheimer's disease (AD), an elderly neurodegenerative disorder with a high incidence and progressive memory decline, is one of the most expensive, lethal, and burdening diseases. To date, the pathogenesis of AD has not been fully illustrated. Emerging studies have revealed that cellular senescence and abnormal glucose metabolism in the brain are the early hallmarks of AD. Moreover, cellular senescence and glucose metabolism disturbance in the brain of AD patients may precede amyloid-β deposition or Tau protein phosphorylation. Thus, metabolic reprogramming targeting senescent microglia and astrocytes may be a novel strategy for AD intervention and treatment. Here, we recapitulate the relationships between neural cell senescence and abnormal glucose metabolism (e.g., insulin signaling, glucose and lactate metabolism) in AD. We then discuss the potential perspective of metabolic reprogramming towards an AD intervention, providing a theoretical basis for the further exploration of the pathogenesis of and therapeutic approach toward AD. Double Luciferase Report assay was used to investigate the interaction of miR-378a-3p with SLC2A1-AS1 and Glut1. Gain-of-function and Loss-of-function assay were performed to dissect the function of SLC2A1-AS1/miR-378a-3p/Glut1 axis in ESCC progression in vitro and in vivo. Results: We identified a novel lncRNA SLC2A1-AS1 in ESCC. SLC2A1-AS1 was frequently overexpressed in ESCC tissues and cells, and its overexpression was associated with TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis of ESCC patients. Importantly, GLI3 and SLC2A1-AS1 formed a regulatory feedback loop in ESCC cells. Background: Atractylodes chinensis (DC.) Koidz is a well-known medicinal plant containing the major bioactive compound, atractylodin, a sesquiterpenoid. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis demonstrated that atractylodin was most abundant in 3-year old A. chinensis rhizome, compared with those from 1- and 2-year old rhizomes, however, the molecular mechanisms underlying accumulation of atractylodin in rhizomes are poorly understood. Results: In this study, we characterized the transcriptomes from rhizomes of 1-, 2- and 3-year old (Y1, Y2 and Y3, respectively) A. chinensis, to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We identified 240, 169 and 131 unigenes encoding the enzyme genes in the mevalonate (MVA), methylerythritol phosphate (MEP), sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathways, respectively. To confirm the reliability of the RNA sequencing analysis, eleven key gene encoding factors involved in the sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathway, as well as in pigment, amino acid, hormone and transcription factor functions, were selected for quantitative real time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis. The results demonstrated similar expression patterns to those determined by RNA sequencing, with a Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.9 between qRT-PCR and RNA-seq data. Differential gene expression analysis of rhizomes from different ages revealed 52 genes related to sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthesis. Among these, seven DEGs were identified in Y1 vs Y2, Y1 vs Y3 and Y2 vs Y3, of which five encoded four key enzymes, squalene/phytoene synthase (SS), squalene-hopene cyclase (SHC), squalene epoxidase (SE) and dammarenediol II synthase (DS). These four enzymes directly related to squalene biosynthesis and subsequent catalytic action. To validate the result of these seven DEGs, qRT-PCR was performed and indicated most of them displayed lower relative expression in 3-year old rhizome, similar to transcriptomic analysis. Conclusion: The enzymes SS, SHC, SE and DS down-regulated expression in 3-year old rhizome. This data corresponded to the higher content of sesquiterpenoid in 3-year old rhizome, and confirmed by qRT-PCR. With the widespread use of sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs), SAs are detected as residues in aquatic environments, posing a serious threat to human life and safety. Because of their high water solubility, fast transmission rate, and strong antibacterial properties, the safe disposal of SAs has become a key constraint for water quality assurance. Therefore, an ultrasound (US)-assisted zero-valent iron (ZVI)/persulfate (PS) system was proposed to explore the rapid and effective degradation of SAs. Comparative experiments were performed to study the removal of sulfadiazine (SDZ) by US, ZVI, PS, US/ZVI, US/PS, ZVI/PS, and US-ZVI/PS systems, respectively. Experimental results indicated that the highest removal efficiency of SDZ was ahieved in US-ZVI/PS system (97.4%), which were 2–44 times higher than that in other systems. Furthermore, the degradation efficiency of five typical SAs was achieved over 95%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the US ZVI/PS system for SAs removal. Also, quantum chemical computations for potential reactive sites of SAs and intermediate product detection by HPLC‒MS/MS were performed. The radical attack on active sites of SAs, such as N atom (number 7), was the main reason for SAs removal in US-ZVI/PS system. Besides, the common degradation pathways of six typical SAs were defined as S–N bond cleavage, C–N bond cleavage, benzene ring hydroxylation, aniline oxidation, and R substituent oxidation. Interestingly, the unique pathway of "SO 2 group extraction" was observed in the degradation of six-membered ring SAs. A uniform axial or transverse magnetic field is applied on the silicon oil based ferrofluid of high Prandtl number fluid (Pr ≈ 111.67), and the effect of magnetic field on the thermocapillary convection is investigated. It is shown that the location of vortex core of thermocapillary convection is mainly near the free surface of liquid bridge due to the inhibition of the axial magnetic field. A velocity stagnation region is formed inside the liquid bridge under the axial magnetic field (B = 0.3-0.5 T). The disturbance of bulk reflux and surface flow is suppressed by the increasing axial magnetic field. There is a dynamic response of free surface deformation to the axial magnetic field, and then the contact angle variation of the free surface at the hot corner is as following, φhot, B = 0.5 T = 83.34° > φhot, B = 0.3 T = 72.16° > > φhot,B = 0.1 T = 54.21° > φhot, B = 0 T = 43.33°. The results show that temperature distribution near the free surface is less and less affected by thermocapillary convection with the increasing magnetic field, and it presents a characteristic of heat-conduction. In addition, the transverse magnetic field does not realize the fundamental inhibition for thermocapillary convection, but it transfers the influence of thermocapillary convection to the free surface. Temozolomide is a first line anti-tumor drug used for the treatment of patients with Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). However, the drug resistance to temozolomide limits its clinical application. Therefore, novel strategies to overcome chemoresistance are desperately needed for improved treatment of human GBM. Recent studies have demonstrated that miRNAs are closely related to resistance to cancer chemotherapy. This study aimed to further validate the biological role of miR-128-3p and to investigate whether miR-128-3p can enhance the chemosensitivity of glioblastoma to temozolomide (TMZ) and the underlying mechanisms. The effects of miR-128-3p and TMZ on the proliferation of glioblastoma cells were investigated by cell counting kit-8 (cck8). Transwell and intracerebral invasion assays were applied to determine the effects of the combination of miR-128-3p and TMZ on the invasion and migration of glioblastoma in vitro and in vivo. Flow cytometry was used to detect apoptosis in each group, and immunofluorescence was used to determine the expression levels of EMT-related proteins. RT-PCR and Western-blot were applied to detect EMT-transformed proteins (c-Met, PDGFRα, Notch1, and Slug) and EMT phenotype-associated proteins (Vim, CD44, and E-cadherin) at both mRNA and protein levels. Based on the microRNA.org database, we predicted the target genes of miR-128-3p. The target-relationship between miR-128-3p and c-Met and PDGFRα was verified by dual luciferase reporter gene. The tumor volume, weight and the expression levels of the proteins described above were measured in subcutaneously transplanted tumor model in nude mice. We found that the expression of miR-128-3p was down-regulated in glioblastoma tissue samples and cell lines. miR-128-3p suppressed the proliferation, migration, and invasion of GBM both in vitro and in vivo; miR-128-3p enhanced the therapeutic effect of TMZ via inhibition of proliferation, invasion and migration of glioblastoma cells and induction of apoptosis. Overexpression of miR-128-3p down-regulated the expression levels of EMT-transformed proteins (c-Met, PDGFRα, Notch1 and Slug) to enhance the effect of TMZ. In addition, we found that miR-128-3p targeted and bound c-Met. More importantly, the upregulation of c‐Met significantly prompted U87 and U251 cell proliferation. This effect could be abolished when c‐Met was silenced. The investigation in tumor bearing nude mice showed that miR-128-3p in combination with TMZ reduced tumor volume and the invasion extent, and increased the sensitivity of glioblastoma to TMZ. miR-128-3p is capable of enhancing the sensitivity of glioblastoma to TMZ through regulating c-Met/EMT. Parkinson's disease (PD) is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder, characterized by the progressive loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons (DANs), involving the dysregulation of both neurons and glial cells. Cell type- and region-specific gene expression profiles can provide an effective source for revealing the mechanisms of PD. In this study, we adopted the RiboTag approach to obtain cell type (DAN, microglia, astrocytes)- and brain region (substantia nigra, caudate-putamen)-specific translatomes at an early stage in an MPTP-induced mouse model of PD. Through DAN-specific translatome analysis, the glycosphingolipid biosynthetic process was identified as a significantly downregulated pathway in the MPTP-treated mice. ST8Sia6, a key downregulated gene related to glycosphingolipid biosynthesis, was confirmed to be downregulated in nigral DANs from postmortem brains of patients with PD. Specific expression of ST8Sia6 in DANs exerts anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in MPTP-treated mice. Through cell type (microglia vs. astrocyte) and brain region (substantia nigra vs. caudate-putamen) comparisons, nigral microglia showed the most intense immune responses. Microglia and astrocytes in the substantia nigra showed similar levels of activation in interferon-related pathways and interferon gamma (IFNG) was identified as the top upstream regulator in both cell types. Cultivating microalgae in post hydrothermal liquefaction wastewater (PHWW) offers many benefits, including nutrients recovery and reuse, wastewater purification and biomass production. However, the high nutrients concentration and toxic substances in PHWW undermine the efficiency of biomass production and nutrient recovery. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the microalgae strains, initial nutrients concentrations and inoculum sizes on biomass production and nutrient recovery using PHWW as the cultivation medium. Results indicated that both biomass production and nutrients recovery were successfully improved by using the screened microalgae strain at the desirable initial nutrient concentration with the suggested algae inoculum size. Chlorella vulgaris 1067 probably demonstrated the strongest tolerance ability among the five microalgae strains screened, and performed well in the diluted PHWW, of which initial TN concentration was approximately 500 mg/L. The desirable inoculum size was determined to be 0.103-0.135 g/L. The biomass daily productivity was increased by 15.67-fold (reached 0.13 g/(L‧d)). The figure of merit of n-type monolayer BiSbS 3 increases with the increase of temperature, and does not show a downward trend in the temperature range studied in this paper. The maximum figure of merit of p-type monolayer BiSbS 3 is 0.78025, which is obtained at a temperature of 1100 K and carrier concentration of 1 × 1020 cm−3. The optimal figure of merit, which is procured from n-type monolayer BiSbS 3 within the range of carrier concentration interval considered in this paper, is about 1.27742 at 1500 K and 5 × 1019 cm−3, which is larger than the maximum figure of merit of p-type monolayer BiSbS 3. [Display omitted] The electronic structure and thermoelectric properties of bulk to monolayer BiSbS 3 are studied by density functional theory and semi-classical Boltzmann transport equation. Meanwhile, it is clear that bulk and monolayer BiSbS 3 are semiconductors with indirect band gaps by using the TB-mBJ scheme, respectively. Further, it can be known that the phonon spectrum of thin film BiSbS 3 has no negative frequency, and it can be inferred further that thin film BiSbS 3 is stable. Prechordal mesendoderm (PME) is a derivative of gastrula organizer underlying the anterior neural plate of vertebrate embryos. It has been firmly established that PME is critical for head induction and anterior–posterior patterning. Therefore, the establishment of PME in a desired shape and size at a correct position during early embryogenesis is crucial for normal head patterning. However, it remains largely unclear how the desired form and size of PME is generated at a predestined position during early embryogenesis. Here we show that in zebrafish a maternal transcription repressor Vsx1 is essential for this early developmental regulation. Knocking down maternal vsx1 resulted in impaired PME formation and progression associated with a deficient and posteriorized forebrain. Loss- and gain-of-function experiments showed that maternal Vsx1 is essential for repressing ntl ectopic expression in more animal region at early gastrula stages. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay in combination with core consensus sequence mutation analysis further revealed that maternal Vsx1 can directly repress ntl transcription by binding to the proximal promoter at a specific site. Simultaneous inhibition of ntl function could successfully suppress the defects of both PME and forebrain formation in maternal Vsx1 knockdown embryos. Our results reveal a pivotal role for maternal Vsx1 as a direct transcriptional repressor of ntl expression at the margin of the zebrafish gastrula to ensure directional cell polarization and migration of PME cells. Abstract: Multiple shell hollow CoFe2O4 spheres have been synthesized using carbon spheres as templates. The formation mechanism and properties have also been demonstrated. The preparation refers to the loading of nucleates into mesopores within solvothermal driven templates, and the creation of multiple shell hollow structure is finally achieved by annealing. The multiple shell hollow CoFe2O4 spheres have exhibited good textural and magnetic properties, which may provide a very promising candidate for their applications in target drug delivery. The study investigated the effect of oxytetracycline (OTC) on the anti-oxidative defense system, the structure (hemolysis rate and morphology) and function (ATP enzyme activity) of human red blood cells (hRBCs) to investigate the possible toxic mechanism of OTC to hRBCs. The experimental results indicate that OTC can cause a decline in the function of the antioxidant defense system of hRBCs, resulting in oxidative stress. OTC can bring about morphological changes to hRBCs, and further leads to hemolysis, when the concentration of OTC is over 8×10−5 M (about 164 µg/ml). At a low OTC concentration, below 4×10−5 M (82 µg/ml), OTC can enhance the activity of ATP enzyme of hRBCs, known as hormesis. However, at a high concentration, above 4×10−5 M (about 82 µg/ml), the ATP enzymatic activity was inhibited, affecting the function of hRBCs.
