In this paper, a deterministic model characterizing the within-host infection of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in intrahepatic and extrahepatic tissues is presented. In addition, the model also includes the effect of the cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) immunity described by a linear activation rate by infected cells. Firstly, the non-negativity and boundedness of solutions of the model are established. Secondly, the basic reproduction number R 01 and immune reproduction number R 02 are calculated, respectively. Three equilibria, namely, infection-free, CTL immune response-free and infected equilibrium with CTL immune response are discussed in terms of these two thresholds. Thirdly, the stability of these three equilibria is investigated theoretically as well as numerically. The results show that when R 01 < 1 , the virus will be cleared out eventually and the CTL immune response will also disappear; when R 02 < 1 < R 01 , the virus persists within the host, but the CTL immune response disappears eventually; when R 02 > 1 , both of the virus and the CTL immune response persist within the host. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems into an HIV model, which considers both logistic target-cell proliferation and viral cell-to-cell transmission. We study the dynamics of this model including the existence and stability of equilibria. Based on the existence of equilibria, we focus on the backward bifurcation and forward bifurcation. Considering the stability of equilibria, Hopf bifurcation is discussed by identifying the basic reproduction number R 0 as bifurcation parameter. The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by computing the first Lyapunov exponent. Specially, the effects of immune response on the basic reproduction number R 0 and viral dynamics are addressed by deriving the sensitivity analysis. As a result, we find that the removal rate of infected cells by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), γ 1 , is the predominant factor of R 0 . However, we conclude from numerical results that it is unfeasible to decrease R 0 by increasing the value of γ 1 constantly. Numerical simulation is also presented to demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical predictions. In this paper, we study a diffusive and delayed virus dynamics model with Beddington–DeAngelis incidence and CTL immune response. By constructing Lyapunov functionals, we show that if the basic reproductive number is less than or equal to one, then the infection-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable; if the immune reproductive number is less than or equal to one and the basic reproductive number is greater than one, then the immune-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable; if the immune reproductive number is greater than one, then the interior equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. A mathematical model of HIV infection with the combination of drug therapy including cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) and the antibody immune response is examined. The threshold value represented as the basic reproduction ratio R 0 is derived. This reveals that R 0 < 1 is locally asymptotically stable in the viral free steady state, and the infected steady state condition remains locally asymptotically stable with R 0 > 1 in the absence of a delay in the immune response. Moreover, the existence of Hopf bifurcation with CTL response delay is demonstrated. The estimation of delay length is used to maintain stability.
