With this Special Issue, we are publishing 81 peer-reviewed manuscripts, a selection from the best work presented in June 2019 at the 28th IEEE Symposium on Fusion Engineering (SOFE), Jacksonville, FL, USA. This is the sixth SOFE Special Issue that IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON PLASMA SCIENCE (TPS) has published, a tradition that started with the 2009 SOFE in order to afford attendees the opportunity to publish an expanded version of their oral or poster presentations in a refereed journal. It has become a popular option. With each successive SOFE, more authors take advantage of the possibility offered by TPS to have their conference papers gain wider exposure and be cited by others working in fusion engineering and its related disciplines. Readers benefit as well. For example, this issue features a total of 22 papers on ITER and Wendelstein 7-X, a unique collection of papers on two projects that sit at the forefront of fusion engineering. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held the 3rd International Symposium on Trends in Radiopharmaceuticals, (ISTR-2023) at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna, Austria, during the week of 16–21 April 2023. This procedural paper summarizes highlights from symposium presentations, posters, panel discussions and satellite meetings, and provides additional resources that may be useful to researchers working with diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in the academic, government and industry setting amongst IAEA Member States and beyond. More than 550 participants in person from 88 Member States attended the ISTR-2023. Over 360 abstracts were presented from all over the world by a diverse group of global scientists working with radiopharmaceuticals. Given this group of international radiochemists is unique to ISTR (IAEA funding enabled many to attend), there was an invaluable wealth of knowledge on the global state of the radiopharmaceutical sciences present at the meeting. The intent of this Proceedings paper is to share this snapshot from our international colleagues with the broader radiopharmaceutical sciences community by highlighting presentations from the conference on the following topics: Isotope Production and Radiochemistry, Industrial Insights, Regional Trends, Training and Education, Women in the Radiopharmaceutical Sciences, and Future Perspectives and New Initiatives. The authors of this paper are employees of IAEA, members of the ISTR-2023 Organizing Committee and/or members of the EJNMMI Radiopharmacy and Chemistry Editorial Board who attended ISTR-2023. Overall, ISTR-2023 fostered the successful exchange of scientific ideas around every aspect of the radiopharmaceutical sciences. It was well attended by a diverse mix of radiopharmaceutical scientists from all over the world, and the oral and poster presentations provided a valuable update on the current state-of-the-art of the field amongst IAEA Member States. Presentations as well as networking amongst the attendees resulted in extensive knowledge transfer amongst the various stakeholders representing 88 IAEA Member States. This was considered particularly valuable for attendees from Member States where nuclear medicine and the radiopharmaceutical sciences are still relatively new. Objective(s): The aims of this study were to: 1) discover location (by city) of contributors to poster and oral presentations at recent ANZSNM conferences; 2) determine the nuclear medicine themes most commonly explored; 3) establish institutions producing the highest number of oral and poster abstracts and 4) determine publication rates of conference abstracts to full papers from recent ANZSNM conferences. Methods: Retrospective analysis of abstracts published in the Internal Medicine Journal Special Issues 2014-2019 identified 614 abstracts. Invited plenary speaker abstracts were excluded. Descriptive statistics were used in data analysis. Conference abstracts were analysed using the following criteria: poster or oral presentation, author/s, city location, hospital and subject matter. Themes defined by the ANZSNM conference committee for abstract submission were: cardiology, oncology, neurology, therapy, renal/urology, gastrointestinal, paediatrics, musculoskeletal, infection/inflammation, technology, physics, radiation safety, radiopharmacy/radiochemistry, education, or general. Retrospective analysis of 555 conference abstracts (excluding New Zealand and International, 59 abstracts) using Google Scholar, Pubmed and Google databases was undertaken. Abstract titles, key words, institutions and/or authors' names were used to find peer-reviewed papers. Identified papers were authenticated through either open access, publicly available author information or Monash University's library access. Published paper citations were also recorded (up to 1st July 2019). Results: Analysis of 614 abstracts 2014 - 2019 was performed. Over five years, the average number of poster abstracts was 67.8 and oral 55.0. Sydney submitted the highest number of poster abstracts, while Melbourne the highest number of oral abstracts. Most popular abstract theme was oncology for both poster and oral abstracts. Publications found had in excess of 1250 citations. One hundred and one publications from one hundred and seven conference presentations were identified, distributed across sixty journals. Conference presentation to full publication rate was 18.2%; excluding 2019 conference abstracts the rate was 21.5%. Conclusion: Publishing research findings is a challenging process. A retrospective analysis of research presented at recent ANZSNM conferences by abstract content was undertaken, with conference presentation to full publication rate found to be at the lower end of reported literature findings. This meeting report gives an overview of the DAFx 2019 conference held in September 2019 at Birmingham City University, Birmingham, UK. The conference had the same theme as this special issue: digital audio effects. In total, 51 papers were presented at DAFx 2019 either in oral or in poster sessions. The conference had 157 delegates, almost half from industry and the rest from universities around the world. This Mini-Special Issue of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MICROWAVE THEORY AND TECHNIQUES (TMTT) is devoted to the 2019 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC 2019), Singapore, December 10–13, 2019. APMC is one of the premier international conferences in the microwave community. The conference brought in a unique mix of high-quality keynote, invited, and contributed papers by world-class speakers from academia and industry, providing an opportunity for microwave family members to exchange their visions, insights, challenges, and progress in microwaves. It received a total submission of 1064 papers covering microwave to terahertz spectrum with a variety of applications by the authors from 56 countries/regions and finally accepted 720 papers after careful and rigorous peer review. The conference consisted of 71 technical oral and poster sessions from 53 technical tracks, eight workshops/short courses, 29 invited talks, and two plenary talks. The Sensors Applications Symposium (SAS) 2020 was the 15th edition of the flagship professional event in the sensor technology and application area organized by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society (IMS). It brought together sensor developers, innovators, and users, providing a forum for the exploration of new ideas, developments, implementations, and applications in the field. SAS 2020 was scheduled to take place on March 9–11, 2020, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. However, the outbreak of the Covid-19 lead to the sudden and necessary decision of converting the event to a virtual conference. Indeed, IEEE SAS 2020 was arguably the first IMS and one of the first IEEE conferences that took place in that way, thus acting as a model for subsequent events. Nonetheless, the 2020 edition of the IEEE SAS has drawn significant professional interest worldwide leading to receiving 96 submissions of which 73 were accepted for the presentation at the virtual event. The review process of the symposium was designed to ensure the high quality of accepted papers authored by specialists from all over the world. Accepted papers were divided for presentation into ten virtual Oral Sessions and one large virtual Poster Session available for online access by the attendees during the three weeks of the virtual event. This article reviews the 7th International Self-Determination Theory (SDT) Conference which was held at Hotel Zuiderduin in the Netherlands during May 2019. In addition to the founders of SDT; Richard Ryan and Edward Deci, acting as plenary speakers, the call for papers sourced presenters from across multiple academic fields, and within industry, to present symposia, poster presentations, and papers under several themes. These themes extended to recent theoretical developments in SDT, the science of SDT, applications of SDT and future directions. This review will begin with a commentary on the organisation of the conference, briefly outline potential areas of interest for self-access learning researchers and practitioners to pursue and conclude with takeaways from the plenaries. The International Conference on Development and Applications of Nuclear Technologies, NUTECH 2023, was held in Krakow, Poland from September 20-22, 2023. The conference aimed to bring together scientists working in the field of nuclear and radiation technologies to facilitate scientific contacts and collaboration. Over 100 scientists from 28 countries participated, presenting their research through oral and poster presentations. The conference covered topics such as nuclear energy, medical applications of radiation, dosimetry, and radiation technologies. This special issue of "Nukleonika" contains a selection of papers presented at the conference, showcasing international contributions to research on nuclear and radiation technologies. This article reports on the third Psychology of Language Learning (PLL3) conference which was held at Waseda University in Tokyo June 7-10, 2018. This edition of the biennial event marked the launch of the International Association for the Psychology of Language Learning (IAPLL) as the host following its formation in 2016. The stated aims of IAPLL are to foster research, hold conferences, issue publications, cooperate with related organizations and carry on other activities for those interested in the study of the psychology of language learning throughout the world. In addition to invited plenary speakers, the call for papers sourced symposia, poster presentations, and papers under the theme "Stretching Boundaries." Two work-in-progress sessions were held as well as an early-career researcher showcase. The paper describes guidelines for the planning, organization, and successful execution of virtual, global scientific conferences for global audiences. The guidelines are based on experience and lessons learned during the organization of the 3-day 2020 Virtual Systems Chemistry Symposium hosted on Zoom webinar and Twitter, held on May 2020 with over 1000 registered participants from 46 different countries. The annual International Web Rule Symposium (RuleML) is an international conference on research, applications, languages, and standards for rule technologies. RuleML is a leading conference to build bridges between academe and industry in the field of rules and its applications, especially as part of the semantic technology stack. It is devoted to rule-based programming and rule-based systems including production rules systems, logic programming rule engines, and business rule engines/business rule management systems; semantic web rule languages and rule standards; rule-based event-processing languages (EPLs) and technologies; and research on inference rules, transformation rules, decision rules, production rules, and EC A rules. Between June 9–11, 2019, the International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine (ICIBM 2019) was held in Columbus, Ohio, USA. The conference included 12 scientific sessions, five tutorials or workshops, one poster session, four keynote talks and four eminent scholar talks that covered a wide range of topics in bioinformatics, medical informatics, systems biology and intelligent computing. This Special Issue is associated with the European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO), held on April 24–26, 2019, in Ghent, Belgium. This conference was the 21st in a series that started in London in 1981. The conference, hosted by Ghent University, was attended by about 240 participants. The conference was launched by the keynote speakers, Dr. Chris Doerr of Acacia Communications and Dr. Mark Thompson of the University of Bristol, who presented recent developments on photonic integrated components and circuits for coherent communications and quantum computing, respectively. The conference boasted 27 excellent invited speakers, covering diverse subjects in the booming field of photonic integration, along with 44 regular oral papers and 71 poster presentations. The ninth annual international G-CAN research symposium was held in La Jolla, CA on the 7th and 8th of November 2023. This hybrid meeting, a live face-to-face and virtual live symposium, was attended by 191 participants. Over 20 research abstract submissions were received from early-career investigators, for plenary oral and poster presentations. Here, we present the 20 accepted, lightly edited abstracts from the early-career presenters consenting to have their materials published. The 2nd International FEBS‐IUBMB‐ENABLE Molecular Biosciences PhD and Postdoc Conference was held from 23rd to 25th November 2023 in Cologne, Germany. Over 240 participants from 31 different countries came together at the University of Cologne to follow the two‐day scientific symposium and the career day. This year's topic was "The emerging challenge – environmental impacts on human health". In four different sessions, eight renowned keynote speakers presented their current research. By offering flash and short talks, 39 participants were able to present their work in front of a big audience. Scientific exchange and networking were encouraged during the two poster sessions, during breaks, and the conference dinner. On the Career Day, a career fair was held and participants could attend workshops as well as career chats to improve their job prospects. The success of the series will be continued during the next conference edition: "Artificial Intelligence – Reshaping biomedical and healthcare research", which will take place 4th to 6th December 2024 in Singapore. Conferences have long been a major part of professional practice in almost all disciplines, allowing scientists to meet and exchange knowledge and views. As well as networking with colleagues, delegates want to access the information that is on offer at meetings, which now range from small, local affairs to vast international gatherings with big name speakers and busy programmes. In this Commentary, Rowe and Ilic argue that poster presentations – an established and popular medium of communication at conferences – are an outmoded and inefficient means of disseminating research. Background: Precision public health is an emergent field that requires transdisciplinary collaborations and leverages innovative approaches to improve population health. These opportunities have inspired a new generation of precision public health researchers. Despite burgeoning interest in precision public health, there are limited opportunities for researchers to convene and continue the momentum of this field. Methods: The Transdisciplinary Conference for Future Leaders in Precision Public Health was the among the first events to bring together international researchers and practitioners to learn, network, and agenda set for the future of the field. The conference took place virtually on October 14 and 15, 2021. Results: The conference spanned two days and featured a keynote address, speakers from public health disciplines who are international leaders in precision-based research, networking opportunities, a poster session, and research agenda setting activities. Conclusion: The conference was a critical first step to creating a shared international conversation about precision public health, especially among early-stage investigators. The conference featured the latest developments in fundamental and applied magnetism and was co-sponsored by AIP Publishing and the IEEE Magnetics Society. The Congress of the European Society for Dermatology and Psychiatry (ESDaP), held in conjunction with the 2nd Brain Skin Colloquium (BSC) Conference, hosted over 60 speakers delivering 47 oral presentations, 41 poster presentations and 5 keynote talks via 2 simultaneous livestream platforms. Immunoglobulin ( Ig) therapy is the mainstay of treatment for primary antibody deficiency disorders and has proved to be efficacious in specific autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Additionally, due to the role of Ig in complement activation, it is being used increasingly in solid organ transplantation. Furthermore, Ig is the primary or secondary treatment in some immune-mediated neuropathies such as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy ( CIDP) or multifocal motor neuropathy ( MMN). This session discusses trends of Ig use in Europe, proposed mechanisms of action, adverse effects and the potential role of Ig therapy in transplantation. Dr Šedivá reported that Ig therapy is available in all European countries, although dosing is not always optimal, due partly to reimbursement plans. Subcutaneous immunoglobulin ( SCIg) has become increasingly accessible in recent years; however, the chosen route of administration still varies widely between countries. Dr Berger's presentation on optimization of Ig therapy in neuropathies, and Dr Rojavin's report on a pharmacometric model to determine the serum IgG levels achieved by different dosing regimens in primary antibody deficiency ( PAD) patients, led to the challenging concept of using individualized dosing strategies. Dr Klehmet reported on the potential benefit of using antigen-specific T cell responses as a biomarker of IVIg responsiveness in CIDP patients, while Dr von Gunten provided an insight into the mechanisms of action of Ig preparations, suggesting that the immunoregulatory effects of IgG may be mediated by IgG antibodies against glycans. Dr Basta reported on the potential thrombogenic adverse effects associated with Ig therapy. Although these adverse events are rare, further studies are needed to clarify the relationship between Ig replacement and immunomodulatory therapy and these adverse reactions. In transplantation, Dr Carbone described that prophylactic IVIg treatment was found to decrease the incidence of severe infection in IgG hypogammaglobulinaemia patients undergoing heart transplantations. Furthermore, Dr Clatworthy reported that inactivating polymorphisms in the inhibitory receptor FcγRIIB do not impact upon kidney allograft survival. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 29th Annual GP2A (Group for the Promotion of Pharmaceutical chemistry in Academia) Conference was a virtual event this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and spanned three days from Wednesday 25 to Friday 27 August 2021. The meeting brought together an international delegation of researchers with interests in medicinal chemistry and interfacing disciplines. Abstracts of keynote lectures given by the 10 invited speakers, along with those of the 8 young researcher talks and the 50 flash presentation posters, are included in this report.
