In the context of bank digitalization construction, this paper explores the impact and mechanism of bank digital transformation on corporate green innovation based on the data of listed enterprises from 2010 to 2021. It is found that bank digital transformation enhances the overall and strategic nature of corporate green innovation but has no significant impact on corporate substantive green innovation. The mechanism analysis shows that bank digital transformation can promote corporate green innovation by inhibiting corporate financialization and alleviating corporate financing constraints. Government environmental regulation and media attention have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between banks' digital transformation, and enterprises' green innovation, i.e., an increase in the level of government environmental regulation and an increase in media attention will strengthen the promotion effect of banks' digital transformation on enterprises' green innovation. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotion effect of banks' digital transformation on corporate green innovation is more significant for state- owned enterprises, heavily polluted enterprises, large-scale enterprises, and enterprises in the eastern region. Therefore, the digital transformation of banks can "empower" the green innovation of enterprises, help the green development of enterprises, and lead the high-quality development of the economy. China is facing a serious land resource mismatch problem, which will profoundly affect the acceleration of economic growth and technological innovation. Reform of the industrial land allocation system can solve the mismatch of land resources, and that also has an important impact on the promotion of economic and technological development. This paper selects the data of Chinese A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2007 to 2020 as the research sample, constructs a double machine learning model, and empirically investigates the impact of a new industrial land use policy on firms' green innovation behavior. The study shows that: (1) the new industrial land use policy significantly promotes firms' substantive and strategic green technological innovation, and the effect on substantive green technological innovation is greater than that on strategic green technological innovation. (2) The enhancement of R&D investment sustainability and the "talent pool" effect are important mechanisms through which the new industrial land use policy influences firms' substantive and strategic green technological innovation. Meanwhile, the new industrial land use policy is conducive to firms' green coinnovation. (3) There is heterogeneity in the effect of the new industrial land use policy, which can significantly promote green technological innovation of firms in the eastern region, while it does not play a significant role in the green innovation behavior of firms in the central and western regions. The above research results enrich the research in the field of industrial land and innovation, help to understand more comprehensively the mechanism of new industrial land affecting firms' green technological innovation, and provide policy insights for strengthening the application of industrial land allocation reform in firms' green innovation. As the most active field in China's economic development, the digital economy is crucial to the high-quality development of enterprises. Taking Chinese-listed agricultural enterprises as research samples, this paper discusses the effect of the digital economy on promoting the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises and the mechanism behind it from the perspective of total factor productivity of enterprises. The study found that the digital economy significantly promoted the improvement of total factor productivity of agricultural enterprises and enabled the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises, and this conclusion remained valid after controlling for endogeneity and conducting robustness tests. In terms of action mechanisms, the digital economy is conducive to promoting green innovation and promoting the high-quality development of agricultural enterprises; However, entrepreneurial activity has a masking effect. Further analysis shows that the digital economy plays a more significant role in promoting non-resource-intensive agricultural enterprises located in northern China. At the same time, the higher the industrial structure and financial development level of the region, the more positive impact the digital economy can play. This paper begins by establishing a three-party game model involving three key players: the insurer, the firm, and the government. This model is used to analyze the utility of each party in various scenarios, one of which encourages green innovation within the firm. According to this model, when the insurer rejects insurance coverage and the government maintains a neutral stance on environmental liability insurance, the firm may opt to engage in green innovation. Green innovation fundamentally serves as a mechanism to mitigate environmental pollution risks stemming from the firm's operational processes. In cases where the insurer declines underwriting, it becomes rational for the firm to enhance its risk management through green innovation, which can be viewed as a mitigating factor in the context of environmental liability insurance. To comprehensively examine the overall impact of environmental liability insurance on the green innovation endeavors of firms, we use a mediation effect model utilizing firm-level data from heavily polluting industries. This paper delves into the intricate relationship between environmental liability insurance and the capacity of heavily polluting firms to engage in green innovation, along with the mediating influence of financing constraints between these two factors. The findings of this analysis suggest that the acquisition of environmental liability insurance enhances the green innovation capabilities of firms operating in heavily polluting industries by alleviating financing constraints, serving as a mediating factor in this regard. Practicing ESG concepts is considered a viable way to achieve sustainable development for enterprises and is an important contributor to realizing high-quality economic development. This paper builds on the upper echelons theory, which posits that a company's strategic decisions are influenced by the cognitive perceptions and values of its CEO. Based on the data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2009 to 2021, this paper empirically examines the impact of CEOs' green, academic, and political experiences on corporate ESG performance through multiple regression analysis. This study found that CEO experience has a significant impact on corporate ESG performance: rich green, academic, and political experience promotes corporate ESG performance. A stepwise regression test found that CEO experience drives corporate ESG performance by improving corporate green innovation and alleviating financing constraints. Further analysis showed that the contribution of CEO experience to ESG performance is more pronounced for firms with younger CEOs, non-state-owned enterprises, and high-polluting industries, although CEO gender is insignificant. This study examined the impact of green mergers and acquisitions (green M&As) on corporate environmental performance. Applying the Differences-in-Differences (DID) model to a sample of Chinese heavy-polluting-industry companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges from 2010 to 2022, our study results show that the adoption of green M&As by the listed Chinese heavy polluters can lower corporate environmental capital expenditure and significantly improve corporate environmental performance. Meanwhile, the positive effects of green M&As on environmental performance are also found to be stronger for state-owned enterprises, young enterprises, and enterprises located in areas with low financial investments in energy efficiency and environmental protection, according to a heterogeneity study conducted for this paper. The analysis of mediating effects shows that the green M&A of heavily polluting firms will have a catalytic effect on the improvement of firms' environmental performance by promoting their green technological innovation and, in turn, their environmental performance. Furthermore, the moderating effect analysis demonstrates that the quality of the firm's internal controls and the CEO's prior environmental experience are both factors that can support the beneficial impact of green M&A on the enhancement of the firm's environmental performance. Amidst growing environmental challenges linked to coal dependence, fostering green innovation in new energy enterprises is vital for sustainable development in China. Although there have been studies on green innovation of new energy enterprises in recent years, few studies have been conducted from the perspective of ESG, whether informal environmental regulation represented by ESG can stimulate the green innovation of new energy enterprises is of great significance to China's construction of a low-carbon and secure energy system. In this paper, from the perspective of informal environmental regulation, based on the ESG ratings of SynTaoGreen Finance's first public newenergy listed companies as an exogenous shock, and taking A-share new energy listed companies as a sample from 2010 to 2021, we empirically verified the effect and mechanism of ESG ratings on the green innovation of new energy companies in terms of the quantity and quality of green innovations by utilizing the Staggered Difference-indifference (DID) model. The findings demonstrate that new energy enterprises' green patent numbers and quality are greatly enhanced by ESG grading. However, there is clear heterogeneity in this green innovation effect, which is particularly visible in new energy firms with state-owned enterprise and greater enterprise scales and a higher level of digitization. The Mechanistic findings suggest that ESG ratings drive green innovation by alleviating financial constraints, reducing agency risk, and boosting R&D, thus providing empirical evidence for the development of a green innovation ecosystem in the new energy industry. Transportation infrastructure is essential to regional innovation systems, and the high-speed railway (HSR) is reshaping China's regional innovation pattern. Previous research lacks an analysis of the impact of opening an HSR on urban traditional and green innovation. This paper uses urban panel data from 285 prefecture-level cities in China from 2003 to 2019 to study the impact and mechanism of opening an HSR on urban innovation from a comparative perspective. The results of a multi-period difference-in-difference (DID) model show that opening an HSR can promote both traditional and green urban innovation, especially impacting urban green innovation. A further analysis of the mechanism of action found that high-quality talent and communication infrastructures are two crucial mechanisms of transmission for the opening of an HSR to affect urban innovation. In addition, heterogeneity analysis showed that opening an HSR promotes traditional urban and green innovation for cities in general. However, for central cities, the opening of an HSR has no significant impact on green innovation and has little effect on promoting traditional innovation. The policy inspiration of this paper is that, in the face of an innovation gap and the inequality of regional innovation and development, the construction of HSRs should be promoted according to local conditions. Construction and layout resources should be shifted from central cities to general cities to narrow the regional innovation gap. With the rise of research on the integration of emergence theory and complex systems, value emergence has become a new model of value creation in green innovation ecosystems. Exploring the research status of green innovation ecosystems from the perspective of value emergence has become a research hotspot in the field of management science. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to use bibliometric methods, explore the current research status of green innovation ecosystems from the perspective of value emergence, and, more importantly, provide a future direction for the integration of emergence theory into complex systems. In this paper, a search was conducted in the Web of Science and CNKI databases, with a time limit from 2009 to May 2023, and through further screening, 159 articles were collected, and CiteSpace software (CiteSpace.6.3.R1) was used for visualizing and exploring bibliometric networks. This study innovatively introduce the value emergence perspective in the context of green innovation ecosystems. The basic interaction, dynamic promotion, and feedback loop of value emergence are taken as the research framework, and the generation mechanism and dynamic evolution of the green innovation ecosystem are analyzed. Finally, three prospects for future research are presented: How do green innovation entities generate basic resources? How do digital transformation and dynamic capabilities promote emerging value? How do internal models and external identifiers promote feedback loops? This paper is highly important for promoting theoretical exploration in the field of green innovation research. Under the trend of synergistic development of digitalization and greening, this paper investigates the impact of enterprise digital transformation on audit fees and its mechanism, by using textual analysis and performing empirical tests on the data of Chinese listed companies from 2007 to 2021. It is found that enterprise digital transformation significantly increases audit fees, and green innovation partially mediates this process. The study results are robust, even after a series of robustness tests. When financing constraints and environmental regulations are low, the mediating role of green innovation between digital transformation and audit fees is more significant. In addition, green innovation has a stronger mediating role between the use of underlying technology and audit fees, while green substantive innovation has a stronger mediating role between digital transformation and audit fees. This study investigates the effect of enterprise digital transformation on audit fees from the standpoint of green innovation. It offers a new perspective on how accounting firms make audit pricing decisions, provides guidance for enterprise digital transformation and green innovation, and gives an opportunity for China to promote the synergistic transformation and development of digitalization and greening to achieve the dual-carbon goal. This paper employs a propensity score matching approach to construct a control group and estimate the impact of the CETS pilot policy, a low-carbon financial policy, on corporate green innovation and its impact mechanism in a difference-in-difference manner. The results show that the CETS pilot policy has a significantly positive effect on corporate green innovation. The higher the penalty degree and the carbon price, the more obvious the promotion of the green innovation of pilot enterprises. The mechanism test shows that the improvement of corporate green innovation is mainly due to the incentive effect rather than the anti-driving effect of the CETS pilot policy, that is, the policy promotes corporate green innovation by providing innovation resources and enhancing the willingness to innovate. Further analysis shows that only in regions where local governments have less competitive pressure can the CETS pilot policy effectively promote enterprise innovation resources and that a close and clean government–business relationship can help strengthen the promotion effect of the CETS pilot policy on the willingness of enterprises to innovate. Furthermore, this paper introduces its theoretical framework as a strategic tripod to explore the friction in the process of the CETS pilot policy affecting corporate green innovation from the perspective of the industry environment and corporate resources. This research shows that a lack of industry green technology and corporate human capital may hinder the positive impact of the CETS pilot policy on corporate green innovation. Finally, this study found that the CETS pilot policy has no significant impact on the quality of corporate green innovation, and the lack of industry green technology and corporate human capital may hinder the CETS pilot policy from improving the quality of corporate green innovation. The pilot of Accountability Audit of Natural resources (AANR) is an important initiative for the Communist Party of China Central Committee to eradicate environmental pollution and promote the construction of ecological civilization. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between AANR and green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises, so as to promote regional sustainable development. With a sample of the national key monitoring enterprises in China from 2011 to 2018, this paper investigates the impact of AANR on green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises by applying the multi-period difference-in-differences model. The results indicate that AANR significantly promotes green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises. The results of mechanism testing indicate that AANR stimulates green innovation by promoting government environmental governance and government innovation-driven strategy. The heterogeneity testings indicate that the promoting effect of AANR on green innovation in heavily polluting enterprises is more significant in regions with higher environmental carrying capacity, higher pressure of GDP achievement and higher transparency of government environmental information. Is there a spillover effect from enterprises' green innovation activities that promotes the coordinated development of the economy and the environment? Very few studies examine the impact of green innovation on corporate performance. Based on the data from Chinese listed firms in high-carbon industries from 2000 to 2021, this paper finds that green innovation has a significant promotion effect on enterprise performance, and the degree of regional intellectual property protection and enterprises' financial resource base positively regulate the relationship between green innovation and enterprise performance. Further heterogeneity analysis shows that high-quality green innovation can better promote improvements in enterprise performance. In nonstate-owned enterprises, the spillover effect of such high-quality green innovation is more significant than that in state-owned enterprises. Meanwhile, the heterogeneity of the corporate governance level also affects the relationship between green innovation and enterprise performance. Green innovation has played a more significant role in promoting company performance in companies with high equity ratios. Finally, this paper proposes that companies should completely utilize their resource advantages to carry out high-quality green innovation practices to realize the coordinated development of the economy and the environment. Research background: The sustainable development and innovation economics theory and related literature place a lot of emphasis on the relationship between environment, society, and governance (ESG) and green innovation. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this paper is to understand what the factors are that influence green innovation and why there is a big disparity in green innovation capabilities between nations. In addition, this paper aims to investigate the impact of ESG performance of green innovation by using unbalanced panel data covering 118 sample countries during the period of 1999-2019. Methods: Panel fixed effect model; Instrumental variable (IV) method; First-differencing (FD) method; Kinky least-squares (KLS) approach. Findings & value added: ESG performance provides evidence for its positive and significant impact on such innovation. Among the ESG factors, governance seems to have the most important influence on green innovation. Moreover, the positive influence of ESG performance is more evident in higher income and wealthy nations. Furthermore, we also conclude that ESG performance can affect green innovation through FDI, human capital, financial development and trade openness. The digital economy is an important engine for promoting green economic development, and the integration of the digital and real economies can accelerate the transformation of the real economy. In order to explore the multifaceted influence of digital economy on forestry green total factor productivity and its specific presentation form, based on the panel data of 277 cities in China from 2013 to 2019, this paper first used the super SBM model to measure the level of forestry green total factor productivity and adopted the entropy method to measure the level of the digital economy in each region. Secondly, the influence and mechanism of the digital economy on green total factor productivity in forestry were explored by using fixed-effect and intermediate-effect models, and the heterogeneity of the digital economy on forestry green total factor productivity was analyzed based on different regional classification methods. Finally, the spatial spillover effect of the digital economy was explored in depth by the spatial Durbin model. The results are as follows: firstly, there is a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and forestry green total factor productivity, which first promotes and then inhibits. Secondly, the relationship between the digital economy and the level of urban green innovation shows a positive U-shaped relationship, first inhibiting and then promoting, and can have an indirect impact on forestry green total factor productivity by promoting the level of green innovation. Third, China is still on the left side of the inverted U-shaped relationship between the digital economy and forestry green total factor productivity, i.e., it is at a stage where the digital economy can significantly contribute to forestry green total factor productivity. Fourth, the effect of the digital economy on green total factor productivity in forestry is heterogeneous in the east, central, and west and is more pronounced in regions with faster economic development or rich natural resources. Environmental management certification is a common means for companies to conduct environmental management activities. By constructing a comprehensive certification-innovation-performance research framework, this paper analyzes whether environmental management certification can generate innovation incentives and then promote the improvement of corporate economic performance and social responsibility performance. Taking seven-year panel data of companies listed on GEM as a sample, a dynamic effect test including lag periods is carried out. The results show that voluntary environmental management helps to improve economic performance and social responsibility performance, but the influence paths are different. Voluntary environmental management affects economic performance through the mediator variable of green innovation and has a more obvious impact on long-term performance. However, for the performance of social responsibility, the direct effect of voluntary environmental management is significant, and green innovation does not play a mediating role. Regarding voluntary policy, this paper provides new support for the applicability of the Porter hypothesis. The conclusion of this paper has some implications for understanding the impact of voluntary environmental management on enterprise performance and can provide some theoretical support for promoting voluntary environmental management. In the context of the new revolution of science and technology, the digital economy not only exerts a significant and profound impact on the scale of enterprise labor demand, but also increasingly becomes a new engine driving green technology innovation in companies. In this paper, we use the micropanel data of Chinese A-share-listed companies from 2011 to 2020 to assess the impact of the digital economy on the scale of enterprise labor demand and the role played by green technology innovation within it. The study finds that: (1) the digital economy significantly expands the labor demand of enterprises, with a more pronounced expansion effect observed at the lower and higher quantiles of the labor demand scale. (2) Green technology innovation can exert a significant intermediary effect between the digital economy and the scale of enterprise labor demand. (3) There is significant heterogeneity in the impact of the digital economy on the labor demand of enterprises and the mediating effect of green technology innovation. the expansion effect of the digital economy on the scale of labor demand is more pronounced in enterprises located in the western region and characterized by rapid industry technological changes in small-to-medium-sized companies, while the mediating effect of green technology innovation is more pronounced in enterprises located in the eastern region, characterized by slow industry technological changes in large-sized companies. (4) Among the segmented indicators of the digital economy, cloud computing technology, big data technology, and digital technology applications significantly expand the scale of enterprise labor demand. China's economy has shifted to a new stage of high-quality development, which means that economic development is no longer simply pursuing the increase of quantity, but a balance of quality and quantity. High-quality economic development (HQED) has become essential for China to achieve sustainable economic and social advancement. This paper explores the influence of green finance on HQED, along with the mediating roles of green innovation and industrial structure upgrading. A fixed-effects model is employed to assess the relationship between green finance and HQED and conduct an empirical test in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region of China. The findings reveal that green finance significantly contributes to the HQED of the BTH region, and green innovation and industrial structure upgrading have intermediary effects in this process. Based on these insights, this paper proposes several strategies to improve HQED in China, including the development of a green financial system, the promotion of green innovation, and the acceleration of industrial structure optimization and upgrading in the BTH region. Water resources are a fundamental natural and strategic economic resource and are closely related to high-quality economic and societal development. This paper uses the pilot implementation of the water resource tax reform to explore the impact of that reform on the green innovation and total factor productivity of enterprises. The study sample includes data for high water-consuming A-share listed enterprises in Shenzhen and Shanghai, China, from 2007 to 2021; the double-difference method was used for the analysis. Study findings indicate that replacing water resource fees with taxes significantly improves the green innovation level and total factor productivity of enterprises. Green innovation has a significant partial mediating effect between the water resource tax reform and total factor productivity. The water resource tax reform promotes green innovation in enterprises, enhancing total factor productivity. When considering different types of enterprise property rights, the economic effect of the water resource tax reform is more pronounced in non-state-owned enterprises, compared to state-owned enterprises. This study, situated in the context of China's transportation and logistics industry, explores the impact of digital transformation on corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, as well as the role played by green innovation. Analyzing data from 95 A-share listed transportation companies from 2011 to 2021, this paper examines the relationship between digital transformation and corporate ESG performance, drawing on information asymmetry and agency theories. The research finds that digital transformation significantly elevates corporate ESG levels, with more pronounced effects in state-owned and large enterprises. The degree of financing constraints modulates this relationship, indicating a stronger enhancement of ESG performance by digital transformation under lower financing constraints. Moreover, green innovation serves as a mediator between digital transformation and corporate ESG performance, revealing that digital transformation boosts ESG outcomes through fostering green innovation. How heavily polluting enterprises achieve sustainable development has become an urgent issue to be solved. Based on the data of Chinese heavily polluting listed enterprises during the period of 2010–2020, this paper adopts the probit method to examine how heterogeneous environmental regulations affect green merger and acquisition (GMA) decision, and propensity score matching and difference-in-differences method to explore innovation performance of GMA. The findings are as follows: (1) Command-and-control environmental regulation (CMCER) can promote GMA, while there exists a U-shaped relationship between market-based environmental regulation (MBER) and GMA; (2) from a dynamic perspective, it turns out that GMA can promote green innovation (GI) in the first and second post-acquisition year, but this effect disappears in the third year; (3) compared with CMCER, MBER has a more pronounced positive effect on the relationship between GMA and GI; (4) heterogeneous analysis indicates that the above GMA performance is more persistent when the acquirer is state-owned, with high media attention, with high internal control or engages in vertical GMA. In the wave of the digital economy and "carbon neutrality", digital governance and green governance are effective measures for firms to achieve sustainable development goals. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of environmental protection tax (EPT) policies on green innovation (GI) using panel data from Chinese A-share listed firms from 2010 to 2022. Using fixed effects models, we find that EPT significantly promotes firms' GI. Mechanism tests reveal that digitalization and environment, social, and governance (ESG) performance both mediate the relationship between EPT and GI. Further analysis shows that government subsidies and analyst coverage both strengthen the effect of EPT on GI, while supplier concentration exerts a reverse moderating influence. Economic outcome tests confirm the multiple impacts of EPT in improving total factor productivity (TFP) and economic performance through GI. Our findings contribute to fulfilling the extant literature gap on the relationship between EPT and GI, and provide practical insights for firms engaged in digital and green governance. As an effective regulatory tool, environmental information disclosure is significant in promoting the green upgrading of industrial structures and achieving green transformation of enterprises. In order to explore the impact mechanism of environmental information disclosure on corporate sustainability performance, this paper constructs a two-way fixed-effect model using balanced panel data of Chinese A-share listed manufacturing companies from 2015 to 2020. We find that environmental information disclosure significantly impacts green innovation, thereby improving corporate sustainability performance. Furthermore, financing constraints inhibit the impact of environmental disclosure on sustainability performance, while female directors have only symbolic effect. The reliability of the paper's findings is verified by replacing the dependent variable and introducing instrumental variables. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect of environmental information disclosure on corporate sustainability performance is more substantial among non-state and eastern and heavily polluting enterprises. Comprehensive analysis from the financing perspective shows the differences in the moderating effects of debt and equity financing regarding the impact mechanism. As climate change has become a common challenge to global sustainable development, China has also proposed carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals to cope with it. To achieve the dual-carbon goal, it has released a series of specific measures, like controlling both the amount and intensity of carbon emissions. It has also put in place a "1+N" policy framework for carbon peak and carbon neutrality, among which the industrial structure adjustment and technological progress are the most direct and effective ways to achieve climate-friendly sustainable development. So, it is of great benefit to examine the industrial structure adjustment and corresponding carbon emissions effect for the formulation of reasonable industrial adjustment policies. Based on the provincial panel data of China from 2005 to 2019, this paper adopts the panel threshold model to investigate the influence of industrial structure adjustment on carbon emissions at different levels of green innovation. Its findings show that there exists a nonlinear relationship between the industrial structure adjustment and carbon emissions and the influence of the former on the latter has the threshold effect of green innovation. Specifically, when green innovation capacity falls below a certain threshold value, the industry structure adjustment has no significant correlation with carbon emissions; when the threshold value is exceeded, changing industrial structure can dramatically reduce carbon emissions. According to the findings, it is suggested that in the process of attaining the dual-carbon goal, the government should highly promote industrial restructuring and technological advancement, especially supporting low-carbon and green technological innovation and ensuring the continuity and consistency of green innovation policy to enhance the carbon emission reduction effect of industrial optimization.
