Keyword extraction is the task of identifying important terms or phrase that are most representative of the source document. Although the process of automatic extraction of keywords from title is an old method, it was mainly for extraction from a single web document. Our approach differs from previous research works on keyword extraction in several aspects. For those who are non-expert of the scientific fields, understating scientific research trends is difficult. The purpose of this study is to develop an automatic method of obtaining overviews of a scientific field for non-experts by capturing research trends. This empirical study excavates significant term extraction using Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools. More than 15000 titles saved in a .csv file was our dataset and scripts written in Python were our process to compare how far significant terms of scientific title corpus are similar or different to the terms available in the abstract of that same scientific article corpus. A light-weight unsupervised title extractor, Yet Another Keyword Extractor (YAKE) was used to extract the results. Based on our analysis, it can be concluded that these algorithms can be used for other fields too by the non-experts of that subject field to perform automatic extraction of significant words and understanding trends. One of the most widely used measures of scientific impact is the number of citations. However, due to its heavy-tailed distribution, citations are fundamentally difficult to predict but can be improved. This study was aimed at investigating the factors and parts influencing the citation number of a scientific paper in the otology field. Therefore, this work proposes a new solution that utilizes machine learning and natural language processing to process English text and provides a paper citation as the predicted results. Different algorithms are implemented in this solution, such as linear regression, boosted decision tree, decision forest, and neural networks. The application of neural network regression revealed that papers' abstracts have more influence on the citation numbers of otological articles. This new solution has been developed in visual programming using Microsoft Azure machine learning at the back end and Programming Without Coding Technology at the front end. The widespread adoption of Electronic Healthcare Records has resulted in an abundance of healthcare data. This data holds significant potential for improving healthcare services by providing valuable clinical insights and enhancing clinical decision-making. This paper presents a patient classification methodology that utilizes a multiclass and multilabel diagnostic approach to predict the patient's clinical class. The proposed model effectively handles comorbidities while maintaining a high level of accuracy. The implementation leverages the MIMIC III database as a data source to create a phenotyping dataset and train the models. Various machine learning models are employed in this study. Notably, the natural language processing-based One-Vs-Rest classifier achieves the best classification results, maintaining accuracy and F1 scores even with a large number of classes. The patient diagnostic class prediction model, based on the International Classification of Diseases 9, showcased in this paper, has broad applications in diagnostic support, treatment prediction, clinical assistance, recommender systems, clinical decision support systems, and clinical knowledge discovery engines. Background The National Institutes of Health (NIH) mobilized more than $4 billion in extramural funding for the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessing the research output from this effort is crucial to understanding how the scientific community leveraged federal funding and responded to this public health crisis. Methods NIH-funded COVID-19 grants awarded between January 2020 and December 2021 were identified from NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tools Expenditures and Results using the "COVID-19 Response" filter. PubMed identifications of publications under these grants were collected and the NIH iCite tool was used to determine citation counts and focus (eg, clinical, animal). iCite and the NIH's LitCOVID database were used to identify publications directly related to COVID-19. Publication titles and Medical Subject Heading terms were used as inputs to a machine learning–based model built to identify common topics/themes within the publications. Results and Conclusions We evaluated 2401 grants that resulted in 14 654 publications. The majority of these papers were published in peer-reviewed journals, though 483 were published to preprint servers. In total, 2764 (19%) papers were directly related to COVID-19 and generated 252 029 citations. These papers were mostly clinically focused (62%), followed by cell/molecular (32%), and animal focused (6%). Roughly 60% of preprint publications were cell/molecular-focused, compared with 26% of nonpreprint publications. The machine learning–based model identified the top 3 research topics to be clinical trials and outcomes research (8.5% of papers), coronavirus-related heart and lung damage (7.3%), and COVID-19 transmission/epidemiology (7.2%). Forecasting the generation of solar power plants (SPPs) requires taking into account meteorological parameters that influence the difference between the solar irradiance at the top of the atmosphere calculated with high accuracy and the solar irradiance at the tilted plane of the solar panel on the Earth's surface. One of the key factors is cloudiness, which can be presented not only as a percentage of the sky area covered by clouds but also many additional parameters, such as the type of clouds, the distribution of clouds across atmospheric layers, and their height. The use of machine learning algorithms to forecast the generation of solar power plants requires retrospective data over a long period and formalising the features; however, retrospective data with detailed information about cloudiness are normally recorded in the natural language format. This paper proposes an algorithm for processing such records to convert them into a binary feature vector. Experiments conducted on data from a real solar power plant showed that this algorithm increases the accuracy of short-term solar irradiance forecasts by 5–15%, depending on the quality metric used. At the same time, adding features makes the model less transparent to the user, which is a significant drawback from the point of view of explainable artificial intelligence. Therefore, the paper uses an additive explanation algorithm based on the Shapley vector to interpret the model's output. It is shown that this approach allows the machine learning model to explain why it generates a particular forecast, which will provide a greater level of trust in intelligent information systems in the power industry. Operating nuclear power plants (NPPs) generate and collect large amounts of equipment reliability (ER) element data that contain information about the status of components, assets, and systems. Some of this information is in textual form where the occurrence of abnormal events or maintenance activities are described. Analyses of NPP textual data via natural language processing (NLP) methods have expanded in the last decade, and only recently the true potential of such analyses has emerged. So far, applications of NLP methods have been mostly limited to classification and prediction in order to identify the nature of the given textual element (e.g., safety or non-safety relevant). In this paper, we target a more complex problem: the automatic generation of knowledge based on a textual element in order to assist system engineers in assessing an asset's historical health performance. The goal is to assist system engineers in the identification of anomalous behaviors, cause–effect relations between events, and their potential consequences, and to support decision-making such as the planning and scheduling of maintenance activities. "Knowledge extraction" is a very broad concept whose definition may vary depending on the application context. In our particular context, it refers to the process of examining an ER textual element to identify the systems or assets it mentions and the type of event it describes (e.g., component failure or maintenance activity). In addition, we wish to identify details such as measured quantities and temporal or cause–effect relations between events. This paper describes how ER textual data elements are first preprocessed to handle typos, acronyms, and abbreviations, then machine learning (ML) and rule-based algorithms are employed to identify physical entities (e.g., systems, assets, and components) and specific phenomena (e.g., failure or degradation). Creating a comprehensive and standard kind of content is becoming an unavoidable and crucial problem in the medical process as a result of the massive amounts of fragmented data created in many sectors. Approach: The purpose of this study is to employ NLP‐based deep learning algorithms for text summary that perform well on linguistic text summarization data, and then modify/adapt these for biomedical domain‐specific text summarization. This paper provides an approach developed in‐house for condensing ill‐punctuated or unpunctuated discussion transcripts into more intelligible summaries, which combines topic modelling and phrase selection with punctuation restorations. For autonomous synthesis of medical reports from biomedical transcripts, this research proposes using an end‐to‐end summarization technique, Deep Dense Long Short Term Memory Network (LSTM), followed by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Results: Extensive testing, examination, and comparing have demonstrated that this summarizer works well for medical transcript summarization. The suggested approach achieved an average ROUGE score of 93.5% using a single document summary. Furthermore, by comparing new techniques to previous ones, the utility and accuracy of novel strategies would be shown. Artificial intelligence (AI) has witnessed an exponential increase in use in various applications. Recently, the academic community started to research and inject new AI-based approaches to provide solutions to traditional software-engineering problems. However, a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the current status needs to be included. To close the above gap, synthetic knowledge synthesis was used to induce the research landscape of the contemporary research literature on the use of AI in software engineering. The synthesis resulted in 15 research categories and 5 themes—namely, natural language processing in software engineering, use of artificial intelligence in the management of the software development life cycle, use of machine learning in fault/defect prediction and effort estimation, employment of deep learning in intelligent software engineering and code management, and mining software repositories to improve software quality. The most productive country was China (n = 2042), followed by the United States (n = 1193), India (n = 934), Germany (n = 445), and Canada (n = 381). A high percentage (n = 47.4%) of papers were funded, showing the strong interest in this research topic. The convergence of AI and software engineering can significantly reduce the required resources, improve the quality, enhance the user experience, and improve the well-being of software developers. Construction sites remain one of the most hazardous workplaces globally. To improve workplace safety in the construction industry and reduce the personal injuries and socioeconomic impacts resulting from workplace accidents, tacit knowledge containing fundamental causes of accidents or specific contextual factors can be extracted from past accident narrative reports. However, manually analyzing unstructured or semistructured textual data stored in records is a daunting task, and requires the use of automated and intelligent technologies to achieve rapid and accurate knowledge acquisition. Therefore, this paper proposes a text self-classification model based on deep learning natural language processing (NLP) technology for automated classification of construction site accident cases by accident type. First, combined with two statistical measures, mutual information and information entropy, the preprocessed text data were subjected to phrase segmentation to identify more complete and accurate accident precursor information without human intervention. Then a complete multilayer and multisize convolutional neural network (CNN) model was constructed using pretrained Word2Vec word embeddings for text self-classification tasks. Finally, the test results of the CNN classification algorithm were compared with the practical application results of three shallow learning algorithms, and the performance of different types of classification algorithms was evaluated. The results showed that the CNN-based deep learning algorithm developed in this paper demonstrated excellent feature extraction and learning abilities in the task of automatic text classification in the field of NLP. This not only demonstrated that reliable accident prevention knowledge could be obtained from the textual descriptions of construction accidents, but also provided a novel model reference for document archiving and information retrieval. Parallel natural language processing systems were previously successfully tested on the tasks of part-of-speech tagging and authorship attribution through mini-language modeling, for which they achieved significantly better results than independent methods in the cases of seven European languages. The aim of this paper is to present the advantages of using composite language models in the processing and evaluation of texts written in arbitrary highly inflective and morphology-rich natural language, particularly Serbian. A perplexity-based dataset, the main asset for the methodology assessment, was created using a series of generative pre-trained transformers trained on different representations of the Serbian language corpus and a set of sentences classified into three groups (expert translations, corrupted translations, and machine translations). The paper describes a comparative analysis of calculated perplexities in order to measure the classification capability of different models on two binary classification tasks. In the course of the experiment, we tested three standalone language models (baseline) and two composite language models (which are based on perplexities outputted by all three standalone models). The presented results single out a complex stacked classifier using a multitude of features extracted from perplexity vectors as the optimal architecture of composite language models for both tasks. Data on infrastructure project costs are often unstructured and lack consistency. To enable costs to be compared within and between organizations, large amounts of data must be classified to a common standard, typically a manual process. This is time‐consuming, error‐prone, inconsistent, and subjective, as it is based on human judgment. This paper describes a novel approach for automating the process by harnessing natural language processing identifying the relevant keywords in the text descriptions and implementing machine learning classifiers to emulate the expert's knowledge. The task was to identify "extra over" cost items, conversion factors, and to recognize the correct work breakdown structure (WBS) category. The results show that 94% of the "extra over" cases were correctly classified, and 90% of cases that needed conversion, correctly predicting an associated conversion factor with 87% accuracy. Finally, the WBS categories were identified with 72% accuracy. Microelectronics production failure analysis is an important step in improving product quality and development. In fact, the understanding of the failure mechanisms and therefore the implementation of corrective actions on the cause of the failure depend on the results of this analysis. These analyses are saved under textual features format. Then such data need first to be preprocessed and vectorized (converted to numeric). Second, to overcome the curse of dimensionality caused by the vectorisation process, a dimension reduction is applied. A two-stage variable selection and feature extraction is used to reduce the high dimensionality of a feature space. We are first interested in studying the potential of using an unsupervised variable selection technique, the genetic algorithm, to identify the variables that best demonstrate discrimination in the separation and compactness of groups of textual data. The genetic algorithm uses a combination of the K-means or Gaussian Mixture Model clustering and validity indices as a fitness function for optimization. Such a function improves both compactness and class separation. The second work looks into the feasibility of applying a feature extraction technique. The adopted methodology is a Deep learning algorithm based on variational autoencoder (VAE) for latent space disentanglement and Gaussian Mixture Model for clustering of the latent space for cluster identification. The last objective of this paper is to propose a new methodology based on the combination between variational autoencoder (VAE) for the latent space disentanglement, and genetic algorithm (GA) to find, in an unsupervised way, the latent variables allowing the best discrimination of clusters of failure analysis data. This methodology is called VAE-GA. Experiments on textual datasets of failure analysis demonstrate the effectiveness of the VAE-GA proposed method which allows better discrimination of textual classes compared to the use of GA or VAE separately or the combination of PCA with GA (PCA-GA) or a simple Auto-encoders with GA (AE-GA). The pervasive reach of social media like the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, offers unique opportunities for real-time analysis of cyberattack developments. By parsing and classifying tweets related to cyberattacks, we can glean valuable insights into their type, location, impact, and potential mitigation strategies. However, with millions of daily tweets, manual analysis is inefficient and time-consuming. This paper proposes an interactive and automated dashboard powered by natural language processing to effectively address this challenge. First, we created the CybAttT dataset, which contains 36,071 manually labeled English cyberattack tweets. We experimented with different classification algorithms. Following that, the best model was deployed and integrated into the streaming pipeline for real-time classification. This dynamic dashboard makes use of four different visualization formats: a geographical map, a data table, informative tiles, and a bar chart. Users can readily access crucial information about attacks, including location, timing, and perpetrators, enabling a swift response and mitigation efforts. Our experimental results demonstrated the dashboard's promising visualization capabilities, highlighting its potential as a valuable tool for organizations and individuals seeking an intuitive and comprehensive overview of cyberattack events. Text classification involves organizing textual information into predefined classes, a task which is particularly useful in domains like sentiment analysis, spam detection, and content labeling. In India, where a massive amount of information is generated daily through newspapers and social media, Hindi is one of the most widely used and spoken languages. However, there is limited research on Hindi text classification and, particularly, regarding Hindi news classification. This paper presents a research study to classify Hindi news articles published in Hindi-language newspapers in India by using and comparing various Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) algorithms. To prepare the textual news data for classification, pre-processing and feature engineering techniques, such as count vectorizer, Tf-Idf vectorizer and Doc2Vec, were used and applied to convert texts into vectors. This pre-processing step on the textual data was very challenging due to the presence of multimodal words, conjunctions, punctuation, and special characters in Hindi texts. The study considered Hindi news headlines from predetermined categories (Science, Sports, Entertainment and Business) and, among the different ML and DL models tested and evaluated, Linear Regression with Doc2Vec vectorizer and SGD classifier with Tf-Idf vectorizer produced best accuracies of 97.04% and 96.59%, respectively. Background: Extracting information from free texts using natural language processing (NLP) can save time and reduce the hassle of manually extracting large quantities of data from incredibly complex clinical notes of cancer patients. This study aimed to systematically review studies that used NLP methods to identify cancer concepts from clinical notes automatically. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase were searched for English language papers using a combination of the terms concerning "Cancer", "NLP", "Coding", and "Registries" until June 29, 2021. Two reviewers independently assessed the eligibility of papers for inclusion in the review. Results: Most of the software programs used for concept extraction reported were developed by the researchers (n = 7). Rule-based algorithms were the most frequently used algorithms for developing these programs. In most articles, the criteria of accuracy (n = 14) and sensitivity (n = 12) were used to evaluate the algorithms. In addition, Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine-Clinical Terms (SNOMED-CT) and Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) were the most commonly used terminologies to identify concepts. Most studies focused on breast cancer (n = 4, 19%) and lung cancer (n = 4, 19%). Conclusion: The use of NLP for extracting the concepts and symptoms of cancer has increased in recent years. The rule-based algorithms are well-liked algorithms by developers. Due to these algorithms' high accuracy and sensitivity in identifying and extracting cancer concepts, we suggested that future studies use these algorithms to extract the concepts of other diseases as well. Since the spread of the coronavirus flu in 2019 (hereafter referred to as COVID-19), millions of people worldwide have been affected by the pandemic, which has significantly impacted our habits in various ways. In order to eradicate the disease, a great help came from unprecedentedly fast vaccines development along with strict preventive measures adoption like lockdown. Thus, world wide provisioning of vaccines was crucial in order to achieve the maximum immunization of population. However, the fast development of vaccines, driven by the urge of limiting the pandemic caused skeptical reactions by a vast amount of population. More specifically, the people's hesitancy in getting vaccinated was an additional obstacle in fighting COVID-19. To ameliorate this scenario, it is important to understand people's sentiments about vaccines in order to take proper actions to better inform the population. As a matter of fact, people continuously update their feelings and sentiments on social media, thus a proper analysis of those opinions is an important challenge for providing proper information to avoid misinformation. It involves the use of machine learning algorithms and other computational techniques to analyze large volumes of text and determine whether they express positive, negative or neutral sentiment. Sentiment analysis is widely used in industries such as marketing, customer service, and healthcare, among others, to gain actionable insights from customer feedback, social media posts, and other forms of unstructured textual data. In this paper, Sentiment Analysis will be used to elaborate on people reaction to COVID-19 vaccines in order to provide useful insights to improve the correct understanding of their correct usage and possible advantages. In this paper, a framework that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) methods is proposed for classifying tweets based on their polarity values. We analyzed Twitter data related to COVID-19 vaccines after the most appropriate pre-processing on them. More specifically, we identified the word-cloud of negative, positive, and neutral words using an artificial intelligence tool to determine the sentiment of tweets. After this pre-processing step, we performed classification using the BERT + NBSVM model to classify people's sentiments about vaccines. The reason for choosing to combine bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) and Naive Bayes and support vector machine (NBSVM) can be understood by considering the limitation of BERT-based approaches, which only leverage encoder layers, resulting in lower performance on short texts like the ones used in our analysis. Such a limitation can be ameliorated by using Naive Bayes and Support Vector Machine approaches that are able to achieve higher performance in short text sentiment analysis. Thus, we took advantage of both BERT features and NBSVM features to define a flexible framework for our sentiment analysis goal related to vaccine sentiment identification. Moreover, we enrich our results with spatial analysis of the data by using geo-coding, visualization, and spatial correlation analysis to suggest the most suitable vaccination centers to users based on the sentiment analysis outcomes. In principle, we do not need to implement a distributed architecture to run our experiments as the available public data are not massive. However, we discuss a high-performance architecture that will be used if the collected data scales up dramatically. We compared our approach with the state-of-art methods by comparing most widely used metrics like Accuracy, Precision, Recall and F-measure. The proposed BERT + NBSVM outperformed alternative models by achieving 73% accuracy, 71% precision, 88% recall and 73% F-measure for classification of positive sentiments while 73% accuracy, 71% precision, 74% recall and 73% F-measure for classification of negative sentiments respectively. These promising results will be properly discussed in next sections. The use of artificial intelligence methods and social media analysis can lead to a better understanding of people's reactions and opinions about any trending topic. However, in the case of health-related topics like COVID-19 vaccines, proper sentiment identification could be crucial for implementing public health policies. More in detail, the availability of useful findings on user opinions about vaccines can help policymakers design proper strategies and implement ad-hoc vaccination protocols according to people's feelings, in order to provide better public service. In the modern capital market, the price of a stock is often considered to be highly volatile and unpredictable because of various social, financial, political and other dynamic factors. With calculated and thoughtful investment, stock market can ensure a handsome profit with minimal capital investment, while incorrect prediction can easily bring catastrophic financial loss to the investors. This paper introduces the application of a recently introduced machine learning model — the transformer model, to predict the future price of stocks of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the leading stock exchange in Bangladesh. The transformer model has been widely leveraged for natural language processing and computer vision tasks, but, to the best of our knowledge, has never been used for stock price prediction task task using DSE data. Recently, the introduction of time2vec encoding to represent the time series features has made it possible to employ the transformer model for the stock price prediction. This paper aims to leverage these two effective techniques to discover forecasting ability on the volatile stock market of DSE. We deal with the historical daily and weekly data of eight specific stocks listed in DSE. Our experiments demonstrate promising results and acceptable root-mean-squared error on most of the stocks. In this study, we introduce a system called Matrix Researcher2vec (MResearcher2vec) which generates researcher embedding vectors from their papers and research projects in researchmap and KAKENHI databases. The system includes data on 276,841 researchers, 6,161,592 papers, and research projects. Utilizing natural language processing techniques, the MResearcher2vec model extracts researcher vectors from the papers and research project summaries of KAKENHI grant recipients. The similarity between reseachers is then computed to visualize inter-researcher relationships. The machine learning results have been integrated into a web service, providing a novel approach for academic relationship mining. It can be applied in the matching of research contents and researchers in evaluation of industry-government-academia collaboration and joint research. It contributes in four aspects: (1) exchanges between researchers, (2) creation of opportunities for researchers and companies to connect, (3) further promotion of interdisciplinary research, and (4) reduction of lost opportunities for research institutions to acquire talents. Computer vision and optical character recognition techniques have rapidly advanced in order to accurately capture text and other features from paper documents. While state-of-the-art tools in these fields now yield high accuracy, analyzing their outputs requires more research. Since tables are common in such documents, a new pipeline, based on multimodal learning, is proposed to better extract key–value pairs from tables. Its performance is evaluated with a synthetically generated dataset with randomly generated tables and a dataset of mechanical part documents provided by SiliconExpert Technologies. Its performance is also compared with another state-of-the-art model built for similar tasks, LayoutLM. The proposed pipeline provides a fully automated, end-to-end scalable solution, beginning with image processing and computer vision components to a machine learning model that uses data from optical character recognition and natural language processing to make the final decisions. In the best configuration, the pipeline achieved a 96.26% accuracy on a large, synthetically generated training and test set. When comparing the proposed pipeline with LayoutLM, the proposed pipeline performed similarly on the synthetic dataset and better on the real dataset. During an emergency rescue operation, rescuers have to deal with many different health complications like cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, psychiatric, etc. The identification process of the common health complications in rescue events is not very difficult or time-consuming because the health vital symptoms or primary observations are enough to identify, but it is quite difficult with some complications related to neurology e.g., schizophrenia, epilepsy with non-motor seizures, or retrograde amnesia because they cannot be identified with the trend of health vital data. The symptoms have a wide spectrum and are often non-distinguishable from other types of complications. Further, waiting for results from medical tests like MRI and ECG is time-consuming and not suitable for emergency cases where a quick treatment path is an obvious necessity after the diagnosis. In this paper, we present a novel solution for overcoming these challenges by employing artificial intelligence (AI) models in the diagnostic procedure of neurological complications in rescue situations. The novelty lies in the procedure of generating input features from raw rescue data used in AI models, as the data are not like traditional clinical data collected from hospital repositories. Rather, the data were gathered directly from more than 200,000 rescue cases and required natural language processing techniques to extract meaningful information. A step-by-step analysis of developing multiple AI models that can facilitate the fast identification of neurological complications, in general, is presented in this paper. Advanced data analytics are used to analyze the complete record of 273,183 rescue events in a duration of almost 10 years, including rescuers' analysis of the complications and their diagnostic methods. To develop the detection model, seven different machine learning algorithms-Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), Logistic Regression (LR), Naive Bayes (NB) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were used. Observing the model's performance, we conclude that the neural network and extreme gradient boosting show the best performance in terms of selected evaluation criteria. To utilize this result in practical scenarios, the paper also depicts the possibility of embedding such machine learning models in hardware like FPGA. The goal is to achieve fast detection results, which is a primary requirement in any rescue mission. Machine-learning-based text classification is one of the leading research areas and has a wide range of applications, which include spam detection, hate speech identification, reviews, rating summarization, sentiment analysis, and topic modelling. Widely used machine-learning-based research differs in terms of the datasets, training methods, performance evaluation, and comparison methods used. In this paper, we surveyed 224 papers published between 2003 and 2022 that employed machine learning for text classification. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) statement is used as the guidelines for the systematic review process. The comprehensive differences in the literature are analyzed in terms of six aspects: datasets, machine learning models, best accuracy, performance evaluation metrics, training and testing splitting methods, and comparisons among machine learning models. Furthermore, we highlight the limitations and research gaps in the literature. Although the research works included in the survey perform well in terms of text classification, improvement is required in many areas. In recent years, with the rapid advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies, large models have become widespread. Traditional reinforcement learning algorithms have also started experimenting with language models to optimize training. However, they still fundamentally rely on the Markov Decision Process (MDP) for reinforcement learning, and do not fully exploit the advantages of language models for dealing with long sequences of problems. The Decision Transformer (DT) introduced in 2021 is the initial effort to completely transform the reinforcement learning problem into a challenge within the NLP domain. It attempts to use text generation techniques to create reinforcement learning trajectories, addressing the issue of finding optimal trajectories. However, the article places the training trajectory data of reinforcement learning directly into a basic language model for training. Its aim is to predict the entire trajectory, encompassing state and reward information. This approach deviates from the reinforcement learning training objective of finding the optimal action. Furthermore, it generates redundant information in the output, impacting the final training effectiveness of the agent. This paper proposes a more reasonable network model structure, the Action-Translator Transformer (ATT), to predict only the next action of the agent. This makes the language model more interpretable for the reinforcement learning problem. We test our model in simulated gaming scenarios and compare it with current mainstream methods in the offline reinforcement learning field. Based on the presented experimental results, our model demonstrates superior performance. We hope that introducing this model will inspire new ideas and solutions for combining language models and reinforcement learning, providing fresh perspectives for offline reinforcement learning research. A growing focus among scientists has been on researching the techniques of automatic detection of dementia that can be applied to the speech samples of individuals with dementia. Leveraging the rapid advancements in Deep Learning (DL) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), these techniques have shown great potential in dementia detection. In this context, this paper proposes a method for dementia detection from the transcribed speech of subjects. Unlike conventional methods that rely on advanced language models to address the ability of the subject to make coherent and meaningful sentences, our approach relies on the center of focus of the subjects and how it changes over time as the subject describes the content of the cookie theft image, a commonly used image for evaluating one's cognitive abilities. To do so, we divide the cookie theft image into regions of interest, and identify, in each sentence spoken by the subject, which regions are being talked about. We employed a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network to learn different patterns of dementia subjects and control ones and used it to perform a 10-fold cross validation-based classification. Our experimental results on the Pitt corpus from the DementiaBank resulted in a 82.9% accuracy at the subject level and 81.0% at the sample level. By employing data-augmentation techniques, the accuracy at both levels was increased to 83.6% and 82.1%, respectively. The spread of misinformation and conspiracies has been an ongoing issue since the early stages of the internet era, resulting in the emergence of the field of infodemiology (i.e., information epidemiology), which investigates the transmission of health-related information. Due to the high volume of online misinformation in recent years, there is a need to continue advancing methodologies in order to effectively identify narratives and themes. While machine learning models can be used to detect misinformation and conspiracies, these models are limited in their generalizability to other datasets and misinformation phenomenon, and are often unable to detect implicit meanings in text that require contextual knowledge. To rapidly detect evolving conspiracist narratives within high volume online discourse while identifying nuanced themes requiring the comprehension of subtext, this study describes a hybrid methodology that combines natural language processing (i.e., topic modeling and sentiment analysis) with qualitative content coding approaches to characterize conspiracy discourse related to 5G wireless technology and COVID-19 on Twitter (currently known as 'X'). Discourse that focused on correcting 5G conspiracies was also analyzed for comparison. Sentiment analysis shows that conspiracy-related discourse was more likely to use language that was analytic, combative, past-oriented, referenced social status, and expressed negative emotions. Corrections discourse was more likely to use words reflecting cognitive processes, prosocial relations, health-related consequences, and future-oriented language. Inductive coding characterized conspiracist narratives related to global elites, anti-vax sentiment, medical authorities, religious figures, and false correlations between technology advancements and disease outbreaks. Further, the corrections discourse did not address many of the narratives prevalent in conspiracy conversations. This paper aims to further bridge the gap between computational and qualitative methodologies by demonstrating how both approaches can be used in tandem to emphasize the positive aspects of each methodology while minimizing their respective drawbacks. This review paper provides a summary of methods in which artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been applied in the management of variable renewable energy (VRE) systems, and an outlook to future directions of research in the field. The VRE types included are namely solar, wind and marine varieties. AI techniques, and particularly machine learning (ML), have gained traction as a result of data explosion, and offer a method for integration of multimodal data for more accurate forecasting in energy applications. The VRE management aspects in which AI techniques have been applied include optimized power generation forecasting and integration of VRE into power grids, including the aspects of demand forecasting, energy storage, system optimization, performance monitoring, and cost management. Future directions of research in the applications of AI for VRE management are proposed and discussed, including the issue of data availability, types and quality, in addition to explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), quantum artificial intelligence (QAI), coupling AI with the emerging digital twins technology, and natural language processing. Idiomatic expressions are built into all languages and are common in ordinary conversation. Idioms are difficult to understand because they cannot be deduced directly from the source word. Previous studies reported that idiomatic expression affects many Natural language processing tasks in the Amharic language. However, most natural language processing models used with the Amharic language, such as machine translation, semantic analysis, sentiment analysis, information retrieval, question answering, and next-word prediction, do not consider idiomatic expressions. As a result, in this paper, we proposed a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a FastText embedding model for detecting idioms in an Amharic text. We collected 1700 idiomatic and 1600 non-idiomatic expressions from Amharic books to test the proposed model's performance. The proposed model is then evaluated using this dataset. We employed an 80 by 10,10 splitting ratio to train, validate, and test the proposed idiomatic recognition model. The proposed model's learning accuracy across the training dataset is 98%, and the model achieves 80% accuracy on the testing dataset. We compared the proposed model to machine learning models like K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Random Forest classifiers. The paper shows the understanding of a topic recognition problem like the speech recognition system based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and the steps of its implementation of a rules-based approach, which is able to classify given audio materials based on predefined topics in real-time. During implementation, a statistical vocabulary was developed. Google Speech API (Application Programming Interface) was employed for subtitling audio materials, and the most ideal time frame for reception was identified through several experiments. Condition rating of bridges is specified in many countries since it provides a basis for the decision-making of maintenance actions such as repair, strengthening, or limitation of passing vehicle weight. In practice, professional engineers check the textual description of damages to bridge members, such as girders, bearings, expansion joints, and piers that are acquired from periodic inspections, and then make a rating of the bridge condition. The task is time-consuming and labor-intensive due to the large amount of detailed data buried in the inspection reports. In this paper, a natural language processing- (NLP-) based machine learning (ML) approach is proposed for automated and fast bridge condition rating, which can efficiently extract the information of deficiencies in bridge members. The proposed approach involves three major steps, say, data repository establishment, NLP-based textual data processing, and ML-based bridge condition rating prediction. The data repository is established with the inspection reports of 263 concrete bridges, and in total there, are four condition levels for the bridges. Then, the NLP-based textual data processing approach is implemented to calculate the word frequency and the word clouds to visualize the characteristics of bridges in different condition levels. Finally, four typical ML techniques are adopted to generate the predictive model of the bridge condition rating. The results indicate that the NLP-based ML prediction model has an accuracy of 89% and is very efficient so that it can be used for large-scale applications such as condition rating for regional-level bridges. Short message services (SMS), microblogging tools, instant message apps, and commercial websites produce numerous short text messages every day. These short text messages are usually guaranteed to reach mass audience with low cost. Spammers take advantage of short texts by sending bulk malicious or unwanted messages. Short texts are difficult to classify because of their shortness, sparsity, rapidness, and informal writing. The effectiveness of the hidden Markov model (HMM) for short text classification has been illustrated in our previous study. However, the HMM has limited capability to handle new words, which are mostly generated by informal writing. In this paper, a hybrid model is proposed to address the informal writing issue by weighting new words for fast short text filtering with high accuracy. The hybrid model consists of an artificial neural network (ANN) and an HMM, which are used for new word weighting and spam filtering, respectively. The weight of a new word is calculated based on the weights of its neighbor, along with the spam and ham (i.e., not spam) probabilities of short text message predicted by the ANN. Performance evaluations on benchmark datasets, including the SMS message data maintained by University of California, Irvine; the movie reviews, and the customer reviews are conducted. The hybrid model operates at a significantly higher speed than deep learning models. The experiment results show that the proposed hybrid model outperforms other prominent machine learning algorithms, achieving a good balance between filtering throughput and accuracy. Job seekers find themselves increasingly duped and misled by fraudulent job advertisements, posing a threat to their privacy, security and well-being. There is a clear need for solutions that can protect innocent job seekers. Existing approaches to detecting fraudulent jobs do not scale well, function like a black-box, and lack interpretability, which is essential to guide applicants' decision-making. Moreover, commonly used lexical features may be insufficient as the representation does not capture contextual semantics of the underlying document. Hence, this paper explores to what extent different categorizations of fraudulent jobs can be classified. In addition, this paper seeks to find what type of features are most relevant in classifying the type of fraudulent job. In this paper, we develop and validate a machine learning system for identifying identity theft, corporate identity theft and multi-level marketing amongst fraudulent job advertisements. We utilized four classes of features: empirical rule set-based features, bag-of-word models, most recent state-of-the-art word embeddings and transformer models for various machine learning classifiers. The machine learning models were validated by evaluating them on a publicly available job description dataset. Our results indicate that the word embeddings and transformer-based features consistently outperformed the handcrafted rule-set based features class. Ultimately, a Gradient Boosting classifier with a combination of empirical rule-set based features, parts-of-speech tags and bag-of-words vectors achieved the best performance with an F1-score of 0.88. The maturation of artificial intelligence technologies, such as Machine Learning algorithms, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), and Natural Language Generation, is transforming the way users interact with technology. With the increasing prevalence of voice interactions, it is crucial to understand the process of training conversational agents. This systematic review examines how human data is collected for training these agents, with a specific focus on datasets obtained directly from human participation in real-life contexts of need and use. The study follows the PRISMA guidelines, and searches were conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest databases in English, covering the period from 2005 to 2020, to provide a comprehensive overview of published practices until July 2020. A total of 22 papers were included in this review from the search iterations. The primary findings of these papers indicate a common use of learning from demonstration/observation and crowdsourcing methods in system training and dataset cataloguing. Identifying failure modes is an important task to improve the design and reliability of a product and can also serve as a key input in sensor selection for predictive maintenance. Failure mode acquisition typically relies on experts or simulations which require significant computing resources. With the recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP), efforts have been made to automate this process. However, it is not only time consuming, but extremely challenging to obtain maintenance records that list failure modes. Unsupervised learning methods such as topic modeling, clustering, and community detection are promising approaches for automatic processing of maintenance records to identify failure modes. However, the nascent state of NLP tools combined with incompleteness and inaccuracies of typical maintenance records pose significant technical challenges. As a step towards addressing these challenges, this paper proposes a framework in which online active learning is used to identify failure modes from maintenance records. Active learning provides a semi-supervised machine learning approach, allowing for a human in the training stage of the model. The hypothesis of this paper is that the use of a human to annotate part of the data and train a machine learning model to annotate the rest is more efficient than training unsupervised learning models. Results demonstrate that the model is trained with annotating less than ten percent of the total available data. The framework is able to achieve ninety percent (90%) accuracy in the identification of failure modes in test cases with an F-1 score of 0.89. Text summarization is an information compression technology to extract important information from long text, which has become a challenging research direction in the field of natural language processing. At present, the text summary model based on deep learning has shown good results, but how to more effectively model the relationship between words, more accurately extract feature information and eliminate redundant information is still a problem of concern. This paper proposes a graph neural network model GA-GNN based on gated attention, which effectively improves the accuracy and readability of text summarization. First, the words are encoded using a concatenated sentence encoder to generate a deeper vector containing local and global semantic information. Secondly, the ability to extract key information features is improved by using gated attention units to eliminate local irrelevant information. Finally, the loss function is optimized from the three aspects of contrastive learning, confidence calculation of important sentences, and graph feature extraction to improve the robustness of the model. With the surge of searching and reading online health‐based articles, maintaining the quality and credibility of online health‐based articles has become crucial. The circulation of deceptive health information on numerous social media sites can mislead people and can potentially cause adverse effects on people's health. To address these problems, this work uses deep learning approaches to automate the assessment and scoring of online health‐related articles' credibility. The paper proposed an Attention‐based Recurrent Multichannel Convolutional Neural Network (ARMCNN) model. The proposed model incorporates a BiLSTM layer, a multichannel CNN layer, and an attention layer and predicts the credibility of online health information. To perform a reliable evaluation of the presented model, we utilize the health articles reviewed by the experts, compiled in a labeled dataset termed "Pubhealth," which consists of thousands of health articles. The results are evaluated using five performance measures, accuracy, precision, recall, f1‐score, and area under the ROC curve (AUC). Furthermore, we extensively compared the proposed model with different deep learning and machine learning models such as Long short‐term memory (LSTM), Bidirectional LSTM, CNN (Convolutional neural network), and RNN‐CNN. The experimental results showed that the proposed model produced state‐of‐the‐art performance on the used dataset by achieving an accuracy of 0.88, precision of 0.92, recall of 0.87, f1‐score of 0.90, and AUC of 0.94. Background: Data mining of electronic health records (EHRs) has a huge potential for improving clinical decision support and to help healthcare deliver precision medicine. Unfortunately, the rule-based and machine learning-based approaches used for natural language processing (NLP) in healthcare today all struggle with various shortcomings related to performance, efficiency, or transparency. Methods: In this paper, we address these issues by presenting a novel method for NLP that implements unsupervised learning of word embeddings, semi-supervised learning for simplified and accelerated clinical vocabulary and concept building, and deterministic rules for fine-grained control of information extraction. The clinical language is automatically learnt, and vocabulary, concepts, and rules supporting a variety of NLP downstream tasks can further be built with only minimal manual feature engineering and tagging required from clinical experts. Together, these steps create an open processing pipeline that gradually refines the data in a transparent way, which greatly improves the interpretable nature of our method. Data transformations are thus made transparent and predictions interpretable, which is imperative for healthcare. The combined method also has other advantages, like potentially being language independent, demanding few domain resources for maintenance, and able to cover misspellings, abbreviations, and acronyms. To test and evaluate the combined method, we have developed a clinical decision support system (CDSS) named Information System for Clinical Concept Searching (ICCS) that implements the method for clinical concept tagging, extraction, and classification. Results: In empirical studies the method shows high performance (recall 92.6%, precision 88.8%, F-measure 90.7%), and has demonstrated its value to clinical practice. Here we employ a real-life EHR-derived dataset to evaluate the method's performance on the task of classification (i.e., detecting patient allergies) against a range of common supervised learning algorithms. The combined method achieves state-of-the-art performance compared to the alternative methods we evaluate. We also perform a qualitative analysis of common word embedding methods on the task of word similarity to examine their potential for supporting automatic feature engineering for clinical NLP tasks. Conclusions: Based on the promising results, we suggest more research should be aimed at exploiting the inherent synergies between unsupervised, supervised, and rule-based paradigms for clinical NLP. Cryptocurrencies are nowadays seen as an investment opportunity, since they show some peculiar features, such as high volatility and diversification properties, that are triggering research interest into investigating their differences with traditional assets. In our paper, we address the problem of predictability of cryptocurrency and stock trends by using data from social online communities and platforms to assess their contribution in terms of predictive power. We extend recent developments in the field by exploiting a combination of stochastic neural networks (NNs), an extension of standard NNs, natural language processing (NLP) to extract sentiment from Twitter, and an external evolutionary algorithm for optimal parameter setting to predict the short-term trend direction. Our results point to good and robust accuracy over time and across different market regimes. Furthermore, we propose to exploit recent advances in sentiment analysis to reassess its role in financial forecasting; in this way, we contribute to the empirical literature by showing that predictions based on sentiment analysis are not found to be significantly different from predictions based on historical data. Nonetheless, compared to stock markets, we find that the accuracy of trend predictions with sentiment analysis is on average much higher for cryptocurrencies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study is to show how machine learning can be leveraged as a tool to govern social impact and drive fair and equitable investments. Many organizations today are establishing financial inclusion goals to promote social impact and have been increasing their investments in this space. Financial inclusion is the opportunity for individuals and businesses to have access to affordable financial products including loans, credit, and insurance that they may otherwise not have access to with traditional financial institutions. Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending serves as a platform that can support and foster financial inclusion and influence social impact and is becoming more popular today as a resource to underserved communities. Loans issued through P2P lending can fund projects and initiatives focused on climate change, workforce diversity, women's rights, equity, labor practices, natural resource management, accounting standards, carbon emissions, and several other areas. With this in mind, AI can be a powerful governance tool to help manage risks and promote opportunities for an organization's financial inclusion goals. In this paper, we explore how AI, specifically machine learning, can help manage the P2P platform Kiva's investment risks and deliver impact, emphasizing the importance of prediction model retraining to account for regulatory and other changes across the P2P landscape to drive better decision-making. The aim of this paper is to present a systematic literature review of the existing research, published between 2006 and 2023, in the field of artificial intelligence for management information systems. Of the 3946 studies that were considered by the authors, 60 primary studies were selected for analysis. The analysis shows that most research is focused on the application of AI for intelligent process automation, with an increasing number of studies focusing on predictive analytics and natural language processing. With respect to the platforms used by AI researchers, the study finds that cloud-based solutions are preferred over on-premises ones. A new research trend of deploying AI applications at the edge of industrial networks and utilizing federated learning is also identified. The need to focus research efforts on developing guidelines and frameworks in terms of ethics, data privacy, and security for AI adoption in MIS is highlighted. As exploratory research, the actual paper makes an interview with ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence language model designed to understand and generate human-like responses to a wide range of questions and topics. This paper aims to understand the functionality and user engagement of ChatGPT. It concludes that ChatGPT is designed on a transformer-based language model based on deep learning architecture that uses unsupervised learning to generate human-like text. It has a large database and memory system to store previous user responses, and it uses machine learning algorithms and natural language processing techniques to understand user inputs and retrieve information from its database to generate responses. This article is the third paper in a series aimed at the establishment of the authorship of Russian-language texts. This paper considers methods for determining the authorship of classical Russian literary texts, as well as fanfiction texts. The process of determining the author was first considered in the classical version of classification experiments using a closed set of authors, and experiments were also completed for a complicated modification of the problem using an open set of authors. The use of methods to identify the author of the text is justified by the conclusions about the effectiveness of the fastText and Support Vector Machine (SVM) methods with the selection of informative features discussed in our past studies. In the case of open attribution, the proposed methods are based on the author's combination of fastText and One-Class SVM as well as statistical estimates of a vector's similarity measures. The feature selection algorithm for a closed set of authors is chosen based on a comparison of five different selection methods, including the previously considered genetic algorithm as a baseline. The regularization-based algorithm (RbFS) was found to be the most efficient method, while methods based on a complete enumeration (FFS and SFS) are found to be ineffective for any set of authors. The accuracy of the RbFS and SVM methods in the case of classical literary texts averaged 83%, which outperforms other selection methods by 3 to 10% for an identical number of features, and the average accuracy of fastText was 84%. For the open attribution in cross-topic classification, the average accuracy of the method based on the combination of One-Class SVM with RbFS and fastText was 85%, and for in-group classification, it was 75 to 78%, depending on the group, which is the best result among the open attribution methods considered. The mining of Tweets to develop datasets on recent issues, global challenges, pandemics, virus outbreaks, emerging technologies, and trending matters has been of significant interest to the scientific community in the recent past, as such datasets serve as a rich data resource for the investigation of different research questions. Furthermore, the virus outbreaks of the past, such as COVID-19, Ebola, Zika virus, and flu, just to name a few, were associated with various works related to the analysis of the multimodal components of Tweets to infer the different characteristics of conversations on Twitter related to these respective outbreaks. The ongoing outbreak of the monkeypox virus, declared a Global Public Health Emergency (GPHE) by the World Health Organization (WHO), has resulted in a surge of conversations about this outbreak on Twitter, which is resulting in the generation of tremendous amounts of Big Data. There has been no prior work in this field thus far that has focused on mining such conversations to develop a Twitter dataset. Furthermore, no prior work has focused on performing a comprehensive analysis of Tweets about this ongoing outbreak. To address these challenges, this work makes three scientific contributions to this field. First, it presents an open-access dataset of 556,427 Tweets about monkeypox that have been posted on Twitter since the first detected case of this outbreak. A comparative study is also presented that compares this dataset with 36 prior works in this field that focused on the development of Twitter datasets to further uphold the novelty, relevance, and usefulness of this dataset. Second, the paper reports the results of a comprehensive analysis of the Tweets of this dataset. This analysis presents several novel findings; for instance, out of all the 34 languages supported by Twitter, English has been the most used language to post Tweets about monkeypox, about 40,000 Tweets related to monkeypox were posted on the day WHO declared monkeypox as a GPHE, a total of 5470 distinct hashtags have been used on Twitter about this outbreak out of which #monkeypox is the most used hashtag, and Twitter for iPhone has been the leading source of Tweets about the outbreak. The sentiment analysis of the Tweets was also performed, and the results show that despite a lot of discussions, debate, opinions, information, and misinformation, on Twitter on various topics in this regard, such as monkeypox and the LGBTQI+ community, monkeypox and COVID-19, vaccines for monkeypox, etc., "neutral" sentiment was present in most of the Tweets. It was followed by "negative" and "positive" sentiments, respectively. Finally, to support research and development in this field, the paper presents a list of 50 open research questions related to the outbreak in the areas of Big Data, Data Mining, Natural Language Processing, and Machine Learning that may be investigated based on this dataset. "Fake news" refers to the deliberate dissemination of news with the purpose to deceive and mislead the public. This paper assesses the accuracy of several Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, using a style-based technique that relies on textual information extracted from news, such as part of speech counts. To expand the already proposed styled-based techniques, a new method of enhancing a linguistic feature set is proposed. It combines Named Entity Recognition (NER) with the Frequent Pattern (FP) Growth association rule mining algorithm, aiming to provide better insight into the papers' sentence level structure. Recursive feature elimination was used to identify a subset of the highest performing linguistic characteristics, which turned out to align with the literature. Using pre-trained word embeddings, document embeddings and weighted document embeddings were constructed using each word's TF-IDF value as the weight factor. The document embeddings were mixed with the linguistic features providing a variety of training/test feature sets. For each model, the best performing feature set was identified and fine-tuned regarding its hyper parameters to improve accuracy. ML algorithms' results were compared with two Neural Networks: Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long-Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The results indicate that CNN outperformed all other methods in terms of accuracy, when companied with pre-trained word embeddings, yet SVM performs almost the same with a wider variety of input feature sets. Although style-based technique scores lower accuracy, it provides explainable results about the author's writing style decisions.
