Son olarak spor basınında ortaya çıkan ayrımcı dilin nasıl yeniden inşa edildiğine değinilmiştir., Sports, considered one of the most important activities of the history, and is a symbol of great culture as of the past. The fact that there are a lot of areas where it has interacted in particular, makes this area special. The media, which enabled a game to continue for centuries, is expanding the face of sport in this sense. Sport press, also known as the so-called football press, emerges in a masculine form. Media, acts in the direction of economic interests, shows football as a male play is important for the elaboration of the subject. The fact that most of the newspapers, now called sports newspapers, are doing soccer-indexed news, and so they are increasing the interest in this profession. Therefore, when newspaper headlines are examined, it is understood that a masculine language has emerged. The Fotomac newspaper, which is located in the center of the research, draws attention to this direction. In the football field where gender has become evident, the newspaper, which shows the construction of the discriminatory language with a sexist and masculine language, has an important position in this sense. The researcher's universe constitutes the time period between the years 2005 and 2015 of the Fotomac article. The purpose of keeping these years long is to show how often stereotyped expressions are given. The said work consists of three parts. Firstly, the conceptual framework of the subject was discussed at the gender center. Later, the relationship between news language, discourse and masculine power was questioned. Finally, it is mentioned how the discriminative language emerged in the sports press was rebuilt.

This paper is concerned with the terminology adopted in English to translate the Italian concept of reddito di cittadinanza (Rdc). An analysis was carried out on a dataset consisting of newspaper articles in English, in order to examine how the notion of Rdc was rendered in the British press. By evaluating the different expressions used to convey the meaning of the concept, the paper shows how the terminology adopted in English might affect target readers' understanding of the functioning and mechanisms of Rdc, frustrating the attempt to explain this particular benefit with reference to comparable measures in place in other national systems. SUMMARYNowadays, sport and press concepts are an important part of daily life. Sports press, formed by the combination of these two concepts, has become an institution in itself. The sports press reader has become an active participant who comes out of passive audiences who take only the contents presented to him, interprets the contents, makes sense, and evaluates them in this frame. In this study, it was tried to determine the motivation and satisfaction of reading sports media readers in Konya within the framework of Uses and Gratifications Theory. In addition to trying to determine their trust in the sports journal they read, they also wanted to interpret the functions of the sports press as well as what they read in the sports journal with what kind of motivations the sports press reader and the sports journal read. 226

This paper analyses a group of metaphors conceptualising the welfare state as a participant in the ATTACK scenario, as well as several related metaphors involving the use of force, in a corpus of British newspaper articles published between 2008 and April 2015. The analysis draws on a point of convergence between Discourse-Historical Approach and Conceptual Metaphor Theory, focusing on the argumentative functions of these metaphors. The paper finds that these particular metaphors are attested predominantly in the left-leaning newspapers. As a predication strategy with a coercive effect, they typically work to axiologically and emotionally undermine the austerity policies of the Coalition government. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nigeria is a developing country with varied developmental challenges. It has one of the worst maternal and child healthcare (MCH) indices, globally. The media, as a vital element within the society, has the potential to contribute to improving MCH through appropriate framing and communication of MCH issues. Achieving media inclusion poses a challenge as media contents are often products of varied power relations. Extant studies have established that health is often not primed in Nigerian newspapers where politics and business hold sway. News media contents are also influenced by varied factors which exists both within and outside of news media organisations. Premised on sociology of news as critical perspective, this study examines power relations in newspaper representation of MCH issues in Nigeria. Combining content analysis of MCH-related stories in newspapers with in-depth interview of newspaper health editors, it explores factors and underlying reasons driving coverage of MCH. It finds that government, local and international aid agencies, and civil societies often influence coverage of MCH issues. These groups drive media representation of MCH through established journalistic routine and reporter-source relations, often favouring priming of official news sources and 'powerful' elements within the society, as a necessity for maximising limited news media resources. This paper identifies various forms in which these groups manipulates media representation of MCH, urging the media to be more proactive in driving agenda for improved MCH for the citizenry, and not accede to satisfying peculiar interests over public interest. In the historiography of Indonesian nationalism and the press, much has been made of the vernacular press and its role in the emergence of national consciousness. However, this work has not typically distinguished between the vernacular press and the selfidentified "revolutionary press," which emerged during the early communist movement of 1920-1926. This article recovers the tradition of the revolutionary press and situates it in the history of Indonesian national struggles by examining the production and development of the revolutionary newspaper Sinar Hindia. An investigation of the paper's content, production, and distribution practices reveals how Sinar Hindia not only embodied the anticolonial national struggle but also became a voice for a project of enlightenment in the colony. By uncovering this "revolutionary" paper's own discourses of enlightenment and revolutionary struggle, this study sheds light on the role of the press in the production of enlightenment ideas and practices in colonial Indonesia. As disinformation has become a topic of conversation in the media in recent years, the theory of agenda setting is once again making its presence known. The aim of this research is to verify the degree of interest in disinformation by the media (mainstream press) and in academic writing (scientific communication journals) according to frequency and whether or not such disinformation can be observed in the field of science. The primary research has been carried out through quantitative content analysis of three Spanish newspapers (El País, Abc, El Mundo) and 32 Spanish scientific communication journals included in the SJR-SCImago Journal Rank database from the year 2000 to 2023. The results were 732 units of analysis. From those, it can be concluded that once again, the pandemic represents a before and after. Firstly, a general increase in disinformation has been observed, as well as a corresponding rise in false information in certain fields of science, especially that of health. Secondly, a gradual increase in public interest in disinformation has also been detected, which indicates that the issue is on the agenda of both the media and citizens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to analyze narratives about African-Brazilian beliefs and cultural manifestations as shown in the printing press in Salvador, from 1920 to 1940. The main sources consulted were the newspapers Estado da Bahia, O Imparcial, A Tarde and Diário de Notícias. This timeframe comprehends the gradual change of perception of the press on those manifestations, when religious African-Brazilian festivities are consolidated as identity symbols of the city. The sources enabled the identification of memory homogeneities and discontinuities, as well as the factors of differentiation in the power correlations among groups separated by tenuous social-cultural and religious boundaries. This paper deals with the study and the analysis of Metadata in the Algerian Electronic press and measure the extension of its standardization and quality in terms of shape and content. We have analyzed metadata of set of national newspapers written in Arabic; Echorouk, Ennahar, Elkhabar, and Elbilad in which we relied on the descriptive method that is based on analysis by using Meta-checker metadata analysis software and compare its results with the general structures of international standard metadata Dublin Core. The most important study results shown that the electronic press neither rely on the Dublin Core standard nor on any other specific standard of electronic contents descriptions, but it follows a method according to Meta checker software which covering almost important elements required for description in an accepted quality, especially that is related to content; title، description, coverage, and language. This paper explores the discursive construction, in major US newspapers, of Saddam, with the aim of answering the research question: How was Saddam discursively constructed during the US-led invasion? In order to explore this construction, an integrative combination of CL and DHA to CDA has been employed. Through the CL techniques, the collocates were derived for the query word: Saddam. These collocates were then categorised according to their semantic meaning to pinpoint the main thematic patterns so that a further examination, designed to highlight the predicational and nominational strategies used around the query words (nodes), could be carried out. This is followed by presenting the main recurring predicational and nominational themes, which demonstrate how is Saddam is talked about and constructed in the US press corpus. The findings shows that Saddam was represented negatively. The negative representation and devaluation of Saddam in the US press is expressed overtly, in terms of the frequency of his name and the strength of the negative attributes. Saddam was the focus in the build-up to the war as well as during the invasion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Transvaginal mesh (mesh) surgeries have been used to treat stress urinary incontinence (incontinence) and/or pelvic organ prolapse (prolapse). In Australia, as in many other countries, the harms caused by mesh eventually prompted individual and collective attempts to achieve redress. The rise of mesh surgery as a procedure, the experience of mesh‐affected women and the formal inquiries and legal actions that followed all occurred in social, cultural and discursive contexts. One strategy to understand these contexts is to track how the mesh and key actors in the mesh stories have been portrayed in mass media sources. We conducted a media analysis of the most highly read Australian newspapers and online news media platforms, focusing on how mesh and the interaction of stakeholders in mesh stories were presented to the Australian public. Method: We searched systematically in the top 10 most‐read print and online media outlets in Australia. We included all articles that mentioned mesh, from the date of first use of mesh in Australia to the date of our final search (1996–2021). Result: After early scant media reporting focusing on the benefits of mesh procedures, major Australian medicolegal processes created a hook to shift reporting about mesh. The news media then played a significant role in redressing women's experienced epistemic injustice, including by amplifying previously ignored evidence of harm. This created an opportunity for previously unreported suffering to be revealed to powerful actors, in settings beyond the immediate control and epistemic authority of healthcare stakeholders, validating women's testimony and creating new hermeneutic resources for understanding mesh. Over time, media reports show healthcare stakeholders responding sympathetically to these new understandings in public discourse, contrasting with their statements in earlier media coverage. Conclusion: We argue that mass media reporting, in synergy with medicolegal actions and the Australian Senate Inquiry, appears to have provided women with greater epistemic justice, giving their testimony privileged epistemic status such that it was considered by powerful actors. Although medical reporting is not recognised in the hierarchy of evidence embedded in the medical knowledge system, in this case, media reporting appears to have contributed to shaping medical knowledge in significant ways. Patient or Public Contribution: We used publicly available data, print and online media outlets, for our analysis. Therefore, this manuscript does not contain the direct contribution of patients, service users, caregivers, people with lived experience or members of the public. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context: Despite an increase in research evidence on media compliance with suicide reporting guidelines globally, evidence from Nigeria seems to be relatively limited. Aim: This study assessed the prevalence of World Health Organization (WHO) helpful/harmful suicide reporting cues in suicide stories reported by Nigerian newspapers in 2021. Setting and Design: The setting is the entire Nigeria and the design is descriptive. Method: Quantitative content analysis method was adopted and 205 online suicide-related stories from news portals of 10 purposefully selected newspapers were analyzed. The newspapers selected were among the top 20 in Nigeria and had higher circulation/coverage and considerable online presence. Evaluation framework was designed following moderated WHO guidelines. Statistical Analysis Used: Descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages) were used for the analysis. Results: The study suggested high prevalence of harmful reporting and near absence of helpful suicide reporting cues among Nigerian newspapers. Majority of the stories, 95.6% mentioned suicide in the headline; 79.5% provided details on the suicide methods employed; 66.3% offered mono-causal explanation to suicide; and 59% featured images of suicide victims and/or suicide-related graphics. Helpful reporting cues were almost nonexistence as only less than 4% of the stories traced warning signs, reported mental health experts/professionals' opinions, featured research findings/ population level statistics, and provided details on the identity/contact of suicide prevention programs/support services. Conclusion: Prevalence of harmful suicide-reporting practice among Nigerian Newspaper presented a gloomy future for suicide prevention in the country. There be training and motivation programs for health/crime reporters/editors on responsive media coverage of suicide following (a domesticated) WHO guidelines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

News media plays an important role in shaping public opinions and attitudes about the environment. Tracking and analyzing media coverage can provide insight into public exposure to narratives that impact resource consumption, environmental behavior, and emergency response, which can help to inform model development or provide additional model inputs. This paper presents Articulate , an open-source, flexible tool for discovering, compiling, and quantifying newspaper coverage on a user-specified topic. Articulate is written in Python and interfaces with Google Custom Search Engine API. We demonstrate the tool's application and validate its performance on two case studies of news media coverage in the New York Times about drought in California and flooding in Houston, Texas in recent years. Our results show that Articulate can generate data similar to or better than proprietary databases. Thus, Articulate can help researchers and environmental managers gain important insights to better understand and quantify changing socio-environmental dynamics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

North Korea is one of the most secretive and closed countries in the world that is still under communist rule. This paper presents a comparative content analysis of the overall framing in the online news coverage of the assassination of Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, from The New York Times and Chosun Ilbo (N = 154). Results showed that while U.S. and South Korean newspapers displayed considerable similarities among the use of texts, visuals, sources, and news frames, differences existed in the use of hyperlinks and news tones. This study not only adds to the body of work in framing theory by examining the coverage of Kim Jong Nam's sudden death from the lens of two different news media, but also contributes to international communication by exploring how international newspapers covered the same event related to North Korean political figures. The implications are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
