Abstract Transposable elements (TEs) contribute to gene expression regulation by acting as cis-regulatory elements that attract transcription factors and epigenetic regulators. This research aims to explore the functional and clinical implications of transposable element-related molecular events in hepatocellular carcinoma, focusing on the mechanism through which liver-specific accessible TEs (liver-TEs) regulate adjacent gene expression. Our findings reveal that the expression of HNF4A is inversely regulated by proximate liver-TEs, which facilitates liver cancer cell proliferation. Mechanistically, liver-TEs are predominantly occupied by the histone demethylase, KDM1A. KDM1A negatively influences the methylation of histone H3 Lys4 (H3K4) of liver-TEs, resulting in the epigenetic silencing of HNF4A expression. The suppression of HNF4A mediated by KDM1A promotes liver cancer cell proliferation. In conclusion, this study uncovers a liver-TE/KDM1A/HNF4A regulatory axis that promotes liver cancer growth and highlights KDM1A as a promising therapeutic target. Our findings provide insight into the transposable element-related molecular mechanisms underlying liver cancer progression.

The combined action of sulfate and chlorine salts erodes concrete structures in coastal and saline-alkali zones. The induced fractures under load also accelerate the deterioration of concrete. In this study, ion erosion tests of fractured coal-gasified ash slag (FC-GAS) concrete under dry-wet cyclic conditions were performed using ordinary concrete as the reference. The mass loss rates, the relative dynamic moduli of elasticity, and the distribution patterns of chlorine and sulfate ions of specimens in erosive environments of single sulfate salt, single chlorine salt, and mixed sulfate and chlorine salts were measured. The deterioration mechanism of FC-GAS concrete under coupled erosion by sulfate and chlorine salts was explored with SEM and XRD techniques. By introducing the influence coefficient and deterioration coefficient of the fracture width of FC-GAS concrete, a modified model describing the diffusion behavior of chlorine ions in FC-GAS concrete was established. The results show that for the concrete specimens after erosion in sulfate salt and the mixture of sulfate and chlorine salts, the mass and the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity first increased and then dropped. The deterioration of the concrete performance after soaking in the mixed solution was significantly lower than that of the specimen after dry-wet cycles in the single solution. The formation of fractures accelerated ion erosion. Chlorine and sulfate ions in the mixed solution could inhibit the diffusion of other ions. The diffraction peak strengths of the erosion products of the specimen after dry-wet cycles in the mixed solution were significantly reduced. The results calculated by the proposed modified model on the diffusion of chlorine ions in FC-GAS concrete agreed with the experimental results.

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to explore the factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma and to investigate the correlations between anxiety, depression, sleep, self-efficacy, and PRL levels.MethodsThis retrospective study included 176 patients with prolactinoma who received outpatient treatment at the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University from May 2017 to August 2022. The general information questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used for data collection. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) model was used to analyze the factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma. GEE single-effect analysis was used to compare PRL levels at different time points between anxiety group and nonanxiety group, between insomnia group and normal group, and between low, medium, and high self-efficacy groups.ResultsThe median baseline PRL level and the PRL levels at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up were 268.50 ng/ml, 122.25 ng/ml, 21.20 ng/ml, 19.65 ng/ml, and 16.10 ng/ml, respectively. Among patients with prolactinoma, 59.10% had anxiety (HADS-A score = 7.35 ± 3.34) and 28.98% had depression (HADS-D score = 5.23 ± 3.87), 9.10% had sleep disorders (AIS score = 6.10 ± 4.31) and 54.55% had low self-efficacy (GSES score = 2.13 ± 0.83). Educational level, tumor size, number of visits, sleep quality, anxiety level, and self-efficacy level were found to be factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma (P

S100 calcium-binding protein A16 (S100A16) has previously been reported to play a role in tumor cells. Nevertheless, the role that S100A16 played in nephroblastoma cells remains obscure. The expression of S100A16 and DEPDC1 were detected via RT-q PCR and western blotting. Cell transfection was performed to overexpress DEPDC1 or interfere S100A16. CCK8 was applied for the assessment of cell viability. The apoptotic level and the capabilities of WiT49 cells to proliferate, invade and migrated were appraised utilizing Tunel, colony formation Transwell, and wound healing, separately. The angiogenesis was estimated through tube formation assay. Co-immunoprecipitation (CO-IP) was performed to examine the targeted binding of S100A16 to DEPDC1. The contents of PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway-related proteins were resolved by virtue of western blot. S100A16 and DEPDC1 expression levels were significantly increased in nephroblastoma cell lines. S100A16 deletion suppressed nephroblastoma cell proliferative, invasive, migrative and angiogenetic capabilities but facilitated the apoptotic level. Moreover, S100A16 could bind DEPDC1, DEPDC1 overexpression partially reversed the inhibitory effect of S100A16 interference on nephroblastoma cell. DEPDC1 overexpression also partially counteracted the suppressive impacts of S100A16 interference on PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway-related proteins. S100A16 synergistic with DEPDC1 promotes the progression and angiogenesis of nephroblastoma cell through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway.

Objectives: Ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser has been used with triamcinolone to treat hypertrophic scars, resulting in promising success rates. However, there are different topical triamcinolone delivery methods used in scar treatment. To assess the efficacy among the different triamcinolone delivery methods, this study was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser followed by penetration and injection of topical triamcinolone into thicker hypertrophic scars (height score of VSS ≥2). Study design/materials and methods: We performed a retrospective study of 155 thicker hypertrophic scar patients (height score of VSS ≥2), including 88 patients in the triamcinolone external application group and 67 patients in the triamcinolone intralesional injection group. One month after the patients had 3 treatment sessions at 4-week intervals, the scars were assessed by photography, the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS), durometry and spectrocolorimetry. Any adverse effects were also evaluated. Results: The VSS scores and the hardness of the scars in both groups improved significantly compared to baseline. Moreover, the patients in the triamcinolone intralesional injection group had higher treatment efficacy (19.77 ± 21.25 %) based on their VSS scores than the patients in the triamcinolone external application group (5.94 ± 24.07 %), especially in the improvement of scar pliability, height and hardness. Meanwhile, in the triamcinolone injection group, more patients had mild and moderate improvement than in the triamcinolone application group. However, there were no differences in the distribution of the adverse effects in either group. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that using the ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser followed by different topical triamcinolone delivery methods is effective and safe for thicker hypertrophic scar improvement. The method of using the ablative fractional carbon dioxide laser assisted with triamcinolone injection had a better therapeutic outcome in thicker hypertrophic scars, as compared with triamcinolone penetration.

Abstract Objective Stress-induced hyperglycaemia (SIH) is a frequent phenomenon that occurs in patients with acute ischaemic stroke. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between SIH and the prognosis of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) patients according to the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and glycaemic gap (GG) indicators, as well as explore its relationship with haemorrhagic transformation (HT). Methods Patients were enrolled from January 2019 to September 2021 in our centre. SHR was calculated as fasting blood glucose divided by the A1c-derived average glucose (ADAG). GG was calculated as fasting blood glucose minus ADAG. Logistic regression was used to analyse SHR, GG with outcome and HT. Results A total of 423 patients were enrolled in the study. The incidence of SIH was as follows: 191/423 of patients with SHR > 0.89, 169/423 of patients with GG > -0.53. SHR > 0.89 (OR: 2.247, 95% CI: 1.344–3.756, P = 0.002) and GG>-0.53 (OR: 2.305, 95% CI: 1.370–3.879, P = 0.002) were both associated with poor outcomes (modified Rankin Scale > 2) at Day 90 and an increase risk of HT. Additionlly, receiver operating characteristic curves were used to assess the predictive performance of the SHR and GG on outcomes. The area under the curve for SHR to predict poor outcomes was 0.691, with an optimal cut-off value of 0.89. The area under the curve for GG was 0.682, with an optimal cut-off value of -0.53. Conclusion High SHR and high GG are strongly associated with poor 90-day prognosis in MT patients and an increased risk of HT.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to determine whether a combination of case-based learning (CBL) and problem-based learning (PBL) methods in teaching can improve the academic performance and recruitment of medical students for neurosurgery. Methods Four classes of fourth-year medical students were randomly divided into two groups. The traditional model group received the traditional teaching method, and the CBL-PBL group received the combined teaching methods of CBL and PBL. After the courses, the differences between the two groups in self-perceived competence, satisfaction with the course, post-class test scores, and clinical practice abilities were compared, and the proportions of neurosurgery major selection in pre- and post-curriculum between the two groups were also analyzed. Results Self-perceived competence, post-class test scores, and clinical practice abilities in the CBL-PBL group were better than those in the traditional model group. The students in the CBL-PBL group showed a higher degree of satisfaction with the course than those in the traditional model group (χ2 = 12.03, P = 0.007). At the end of the semester, the proportion of students who chose neurosurgery majors in the CBL-PBL group was 13.3%, more than the 3.4% in the traditional model group (χ2 = 3.93, P = 0.048). Conclusion Compared with the traditional teaching method, the CBL and PBL integrated method is more effective for improving the performance of medical students and enhancing their clinical capabilities in neurosurgery teaching. The CBL-PBL method effectively improved students’ interests in neurosurgery, potentially contributing to increasing medical student recruitment into neurosurgery.

【Objective】The study was performed to explore the effects of different substrate formulations on the growth of Bougainvillea in order to provide suitable cultivation mediums for Bougainvillea.【Method】The two Bougainvillea cultivars'Miss Manila'and'Sao Paulo'were planted and seven kinds of raw materials including natural soil, compost, peat, sand, biochar, coconut coir and pearlite were mixed in different volume proportions to carry out cultivation experiment to study the growth of Bougainvillea under fifteen formula treatments and a natural soil control, respectively. The plant height, crown diameter, main, leaf SPAD values and NPK contents in leaf, and physical and chemical properties of culture substrates were determined, then the substrate formulas were comprehensively evaluated by principal component analysis, and the suitable cultivation mediums for the Bougainvillea was selected.【Result】The plant height increases of Miss Manila and Sao Paulo under T12 were significantly higher than other treatments, which were 22.40 cm and 21.40 cm, respectively. The crown width increases of'Miss Manila'and'Sao Paulo'under T13 and T15 were significantly higher than other treatments, which was 25.20 cm, 23.45 cm and 33.85 cm, 35.85 cm, respectively. The SPAD and N content in leaves of Miss Manila and Sao Paulo under T13 and T15 were significantly higher than other treatments.【Conclusion】The vegetative growth of Bougainvillea were well under T12 (soil∶compost∶peat∶river sand = 3∶3∶2∶2), T13 (soil∶compost∶biochar =3∶5∶2) and T15 (soil∶compost∶biochar∶perlite =∶3∶4∶1∶2), which were the optimal substrate formulas for the cultivation of Bougainvillea. Also, it was proved that green waste compost could substitute peat as the main substrate material, and the appropriate volume ratio was 40% to 50%. The addition of 10% and 20% of green waste biochar for cultivation of Bougainvillea showed significant effect.

Abstract Background Previous studies reported that transnasal ileus tube was a new and useful method for rapid relief of small intestinal obstruction. However, no study reported the impacts of the transnasal ileus tube for Crohn’s disease combined with intestinal obstruction. We aimed to describe the strategy to the small intestine obstruction caused by Crohn’s disease on the basis of transnasal ileus tube insertion. Methods From November 2019 to November 2021, the data of 6 hospitalized patients with CD, diagnosed and conservatively treated in The Second Hospital of Nanjing, were not relived and retrospectively collected. After the insertion of transnasal ileus tube, demographic information, clinical features and treatment data were extracted from medical records. Results Six Crohn’s disease patients with intestinal obstruction were included. Half of them were male. The patients aged from 29 to 70 years. Five patients had chronic intestinal obstruction more than one year. Three patients had intestinal surgery history. One patient had colonic abdominal fistula and anastomotic fistula, when she took intermittent usage of sulfsalazine and steroid. On admission, all the patients had abdominal pain, distention and mass. Five patients had anemia, low albumin and cholinesterase. All CDAI scores were more than 400. Compared to 19 patients with incomplete intestinal obstruction improved by nasogastric decompression tube, 6 patients with intestinal obstruction catheter had significant difference in time for relieving abdominal pain and distension (p = 0.003), time for alleviating abnormal mass (p ≤ 0.01), drainage volume (p = 0.004), and preoperative CDAI score (p = 0.001). Compared with X-ray image before insertion, complete remission of obstruction of 5 patients were observed in intestinal cavity after insertion. After 1–2 months nutrition, all the patients had small intestine resection and ileostomy, half of them underwent colectomy and fistula repair, and 4 patients were performed enterolysis at the same time, the residual small intestine length ranging from 250 to 400 cm. 1 patient had permanent ileostomy;1 patient had abdominal infection after operation. The typical manifestations of acute and chronic inflammation, transmural inflammation, pseudopolyps and serous fiber hyperplasia could be seen in pathological findings of patients 1 to 5. All the patients continued enteral nutrition after surgery. Four patients were treated with infliximab or vedolizumab. Conclusion The current intestinal obstruction catheter which is used to treat patients with Crohn's combined obstruction can afford quick clinical remission, longer nutrition time, and suitable preoperative CDAI score for operation, which is worthy of wildly being used.

BackgroundsThe in-hospital mortality in lung cancer patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) is extremely high. This study intended to adopt machine learning algorithm models to predict in-hospital mortality of critically ill lung cancer for providing relative information in clinical decision-making.MethodsData were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) for a training cohort and data extracted from the Medical Information Mart for eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD) database for a validation cohort. Logistic regression, random forest, decision tree, light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and an ensemble (random forest+LightGBM+XGBoost) model were used for prediction of in-hospital mortality and important feature extraction. The AUC (area under receiver operating curve), accuracy, F1 score and recall were used to evaluate the predictive performance of each model. Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values were calculated to evaluate feature importance of each feature.ResultsOverall, there were 653 (24.8%) in-hospital mortality in the training cohort, and 523 (21.7%) in-hospital mortality in the validation cohort. Among the six machine learning models, the ensemble model achieved the best performance. The top 5 most influential features were the sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) score, albumin, the oxford acute severity of illness score (OASIS) score, anion gap and bilirubin in random forest and XGBoost model. The SHAP summary plot was used to illustrate the positive or negative effects of the top 15 features attributed to the XGBoost model.ConclusionThe ensemble model performed best and might be applied to forecast in-hospital mortality of critically ill lung cancer patients, and the SOFA score was the most important feature in all models. These results might offer valuable and significant reference for ICU clinicians' decision-making in advance.

BackgroundBloodstream infections (BSIs), especially hospital-acquired BSIs, are a major cause of morbidity and mortality. However, the details about the pathogens and antimicrobial resistance profile of BSIs across China are still lacking.MethodsAn investigation was conducted in 10 large teaching hospitals from seven geographic regions across China in 2016 based on China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network (CHINET) to profile the clinical and etiological features of BSIs.ResultsA total of 2,773 cases of BSIs were identified, a majority (97.3%) of which were monomicrobial. Overall, 38.4% (1,065/2,773) were community-acquired BSIs (CABSIs), and 61.6% (1,708/2,773) were hospital-acquired BSIs (HABSIs). Of the 2,861 pathogenic BSI isolates, 67.5% were Gram-negative bacteria, 29.6% were Gram-positive bacteria, and 2.9% were fungi. The top BSI pathogens were Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CNS), Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococci, and Acinetobacter baumannii. Escherichia coli and K. pneumoniae isolates showed low susceptibility to penicillins, cephalosporins (except ceftazidime and cefepime), and ampicillin-sulbactam (13.1%–43.4% susceptible); moderate susceptibility (about 60% susceptible) to ceftazidime, cefepime, and aztreonam; and high susceptibility (>90%) to β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations other than ampicillin-sulbactam, except K. pneumoniae strains to piperacillin-tazobactam (59.2% susceptible). HABSIs were associated with significantly higher prevalence of carbapenem-resistant and extended-spectrum β-lactamases-producing K. pneumoniae, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, methicillin-resistant CNS, and ampicillin-resistant Enterococci than CABSIs. Overall, 42.0% of the BSI due to S. aureus strains were resistant to methicillin.ConclusionsThe findings about BSIs in teaching hospitals across China add more scientific evidence to inform the appropriate management of the disease.

In this manuscript, we report torque teno mini virus (TTMV) as a cause of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) lacking PML::RARA in a 3-year-old boy. Astolfi et al. firstly identified partial integration of the TTMV genome into RARA intron 2, which resulted in in-frame TTMV::RARA fusion in two APL-like pediatric cases without PML::RARA in November 2021. This fascinating report identified an unexpected exogenous genetic cause of APL and could be of great importance for diagnosing and managing APL. Here we report the third childhood APL-like case caused by TTMV integration and investigate the location and structure of the integrated TTMV sequence. These findings suggest TTMV::RARA is a recurrent cause of APL lacking PML::RARA. Considering the widespread prevalence of TTMV in the population, more TTMV::RARA positive APL-like cases might remain to be identified. Establishing a bioinformatic analysis strategy optimized for the highly variable TTMV genome sequence may facilitate the identification of TTMV::RARA by whole transcript sequencing. An effective PCR protocol to identify TTMV::RARA based on a profound analysis of the conservation of TTMV segments in the fusion transcript is also expected. Also, further investigation is needed to elucidate the oncogenic mechanisms of TTMV integration and the clinical features of TTMV::RARA positive patients.

The relaxor ferroelectric single crystal (1−x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-PT) has high piezoelectric constants, and thus has a good application prospect in the field of highly sensitive piezoelectric sensors. In this paper, for relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT, the bulk acoustic wave characteristics on pure- and pseudo-lateral-field-excitation (pure- and pseudo-LFE) modes are investigated. LFE piezoelectric coupling coefficients and acoustic wave phase velocities for PMN-PT crystals in different cuts and electric field directions are calculated. On this basis, the optimal cuts of pure-LFE and pseudo-LFE modes of relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT are obtained, namely, (zxt)45° and (zxtl)90°/90°, respectively. Finally, finite element simulations are carried out to verify the cuts of pure-LFE and pseudo-LFE modes. The simulation results show that the PMN-PT acoustic wave devices in pure-LFE mode have good energy-trapping effects. For PMN-PT acoustic wave devices in pseudo-LFE mode, when the device is in air, no obvious energy-trapping emerges; when the water (as a virtual electrode) is added to the surface of the crystal plate, an obvious resonance peak and the energy-trapping effect appears. Therefore, the PMN-PT pure-LFE device is suitable for gas-phase detections. While the PMN-PT pseudo-LFE device is suitable for liquid-phase detections. The above results verify the correctness of the cuts of the two modes. The research results provide an important basis for the development of highly sensitive LFE piezoelectric sensors based on relaxor ferroelectric single crystal PMN-PT.

The use of seashells to replace traditional cement-based materials and study their adsorption capacity for pollutants can expand the functional engineering application range of cement-based materials. A large amount of seashell waste is produced in coastal areas every year. How to deal with and utilize this seashell waste is a common problem faced by coastal countries and regions. This paper first reviews the principles of adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherms to demonstrate the adsorption mechanism of shell materials. Then the effects of pH, contact time, temperature, pollutant concentration and other factors on the adsorption of heavy metal ions and basic dyes to seashells are discussed. Finally, the relevant applications of seashells in the construction field are reviewed. The results showed that the optimal pH value in the process of seashell adsorption was 5–7, the active site on the surface of the seashell particles was limited, and that it would reach saturation at a certain concentration, but would not further increase with the increase of time. The active site area of the seashell would increase with the decrease of particle size, so the selection of seashell powder with small particle size was conducive to enhancing the absorption capacity and removal efficiency. The experimental use of seashells instead of cementitious materials or natural aggregates in cement-based materials showed good adsorption capacity and would have a wide range of application prospects in permeable concrete and architectural coatings. By analyzing the research progress on factors influencing seashell adsorption performance and the applications of seashell adsorption behaviors in cement-based materials, this paper could provide ideas and methods for the design of functional cement-based adsorption materials from multiple angles.

Abstract Fusion genes (FGs) are important genetic abnormalities in acute leukemias, but their variety and occurrence in acute leukemias remain to be systematically described. Whole transcriptome sequencing (WTS) provides a powerful tool for analyzing FGs. Here we report the FG map revealed by WTS in a consecutive cohort of 1000 acute leukemia cases in a single center, including 539 acute myeloid leukemia (AML), 437 acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and 24 mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL) patients. Bioinformatic analysis identified 792 high-confidence in-frame fusion events (296 distinct fusions) which were classified into four tiers. Tier A (pathogenic), B (likely pathogenic), and C (uncertain significance) FGs were identified in 61.8% cases of the total cohort (59.7% in AML, 64.5% in ALL, and 63.6% in MPAL). FGs involving protein kinase, transcription factor, and epigenetic genes were detected in 10.7%, 48.5%, and 15.1% cases, respectively. A considerable amount of novel FGs (82 in AML, 88 in B-ALL, 13 in T-ALL, and 9 in MPAL) was identified. This comprehensively described real map of FGs in acute leukemia revealed multiple FGs with clinical relevance that have not been previously recognized. WTS is a valuable tool and should be widely used in the routine diagnostic workup of acute leukemia.

Abstract Background and purpose The purpose of our study was to analyse endovascular treatment (EVT) in patients presenting acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke with large-vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO) during the pandemic and post-epidemic periods. Methods Patients with AIS-LVO of the anterior circulation who underwent EVT were enrolled. According to the times of Wuhan closure and reopening, patients were divided into a pre-pandemic group (from November 8, 2019, to January 22, 2020), pandemic group (from January 23, 2020, to April 8, 2020) and post-epidemic group (from April 9, 2020, to June 24, 2020). The primary endpoints were the time delay among symptom onset to arriving hospital door, to groining puncture and to vascular reperfusion. Secondary endpoints were the functional outcomes evaluated by 90-day modified Rankin scale (mRS) score. Results In total, the times from onset to reperfusion (OTR, median 356 min vs. 310 min, p = 0.041) and onset to door (OTD, median 238 min vs. 167 min, p = 0.017) were prolonged in the pandemic group compared to the pre-pandemic group, and the delay continue in the post-epidemic period. In the subgroup analysis, the time from door to imaging (DTI) was significantly prolonged during the pandemic period. Interestingly, the prolonged DTI was corrected in the directly admitted subgroup during post-epidemic period. In addition, the functional outcomes showed no significant differences across the three periods. Conclusions Total time and prehospital time were prolonged during the pandemic and post-epidemic periods. Urgent public education and improved in-hospital screening processes are necessary to decrease time delays.

BackgroundPancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is characterized by intensive stromal involvement and heterogeneity. Pancreatic cancer cells interact with the surrounding tumor microenvironment (TME), leading to tumor development, unfavorable prognosis, and therapy resistance. Herein, we aim to clarify a gene network indicative of TME features and find a vulnerability for combating pancreatic cancer.MethodsSingle-cell RNA sequencing data processed by the Seurat package were used to retrieve cell component marker genes (CCMGs). The correlation networks/modules of CCMGs were determined by WGCNA. Neural network and risk score models were constructed for prognosis prediction. Cell–cell communication analysis was achieved by NATMI software. The effect of the ITGA2 inhibitor was evaluated in vivo by using a KrasG12D-driven murine pancreatic cancer model.ResultsWGCNA categorized CCMGs into eight gene coexpression networks. TME genes derived from the significant networks were able to stratify PDAC samples into two main TME subclasses with diverse prognoses. Furthermore, we generated a neural network model and risk score model that robustly predicted the prognosis and therapeutic outcomes. A functional enrichment analysis of hub genes governing gene networks revealed a crucial role of cell junction molecule–mediated intercellular communication in PDAC malignancy. The pharmacological inhibition of ITGA2 counteracts the cancer-promoting microenvironment and ameliorates pancreatic lesions in vivo.ConclusionBy utilizing single-cell data and WGCNA to deconvolute the bulk transcriptome, we exploited novel PDAC prognosis–predicting strategies. Targeting the hub gene ITGA2 attenuated tumor development in a PDAC mouse model. These findings may provide novel insights into PDAC therapy.

BackgroundAcute kidney injury (AKI) is a morbid complication and the main cause of multiple organ failure and death in severely burned patients. The objective of this study was to explore epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of AKI for severely burned patients.MethodsThis retrospective study was performed with prospectively collected data of severely burned patients from the Institute of Burn Research in Southwest Hospital during 2011–2017. AKI was diagnosed according to Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria (2012), and it was divided into early and late AKIs depending on its onset time (within the first 3 days or >3 days post burn). The baseline characteristics, clinical data, and outcomes of the three groups (early AKI, late AKI and non-AKI) were compared using logistic regression analysis. Mortality predictors of patients with AKI were assessed.ResultsA total of 637 adult patients were included in analysis. The incidence of AKI was 36.9% (early AKI 29.4%, late AKI 10.0%). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that age, gender, total burn surface area (TBSA), full-thickness burns of TBSA, chronic comorbidities (hypertension or/and diabetes), hypovolemic shock of early burn, and tracheotomy were independent risk factors for both early and late AKIs. However, sepsis was only an independent risk factor for late AKI. Decompression escharotomy was a protective factor for both AKIs. The mortality of patients with AKI was 32.3% (early AKI 25.7%, late AKI 56.3%), and that of patients without AKI was 2.5%. AKI was independently associated with obviously increased mortality of severely burned patients [early AKI, OR = 12.98 (6.08–27.72); late AKI, OR = 34.02 (15.69–73.75)]. With the wide application of petroleum resources, oil substances have polluted the environment in every link from crude oil extraction to utilization. Cement-based materials are the main materials in civil engineering, and the study of their adsorption capacity for oil pollutants can expand the scope of functional engineering applications of cement-based materials. Based on the research status of the oil-wet mechanism of different kinds of oil-absorbing materials, this paper lists the types of conventional oil-absorbing materials and introduces their application in cement-based materials while outlining the influence of different oil-absorbing materials on the oil-absorbing properties of cement-based composites. The analysis found that 10% Acronal S400F emulsion can reduce the water absorption rate of cement stone by 75% and enhance the oil-absorption rate by 62%. Adding 5% polyethylene glycol can increase the oil–water relative permeability of cement stone to 1.2. The oil-adsorption process is described by kinetic and thermodynamic equations. Two isotherm adsorption models and three adsorption kinetic models are explained, and oil-absorbing materials and adsorption models are matched. The effects of specific surface area, porosity, pore interface, material outer surface, oil-absorption strain, and pore network on the oil-absorption performance of materials are reviewed. It was found that the porosity has the greatest influence on the oil-absorbing performance. When the porosity of the oil-absorbing material increases from 72% to 91%, the oil absorption can increase to 236%. In this paper, by analyzing the research progress of factors affecting oil-absorption performance, ideas for multi-angle design of functional cement-based oil-absorbing materials can be obtained.

The percolation of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is generally regarded as an important factor that may accelerate the penetration of aggressive agents in concrete materials, and its threshold is largely determined by the features of aggregates. In most numerical studies about ITZ percolation, both fine aggregates and coarse aggregates are assumed to be the particles of uniform shape, and their size distributions are generally strung together by a single function, which is quite different from reality. To quantify the ITZ percolation associated with the polydispersity of aggregate shapes and size gradations in a more realistic way, the two-dimensional (2D) meso-scale model of concrete is generated by simplifying coarse aggregates and fine aggregates as polygons and ovals, respectively. Moreover, the size gradations of them are also represented by two separate expressions. By combining these models with percolation theory, the percolation of ITZ in the 2D case is explicitly simulated, and the influence of aggregate shape- and size-diversities on the critical threshold ϕagg,c is studied in detail. Based on the simulated results of ϕagg,c, an empirically analytical expression is further proposed to fast predict the ITZ percolation, and its reliability is verified. The results show that the ITZ thickness, average aggregate fineness, coarse aggregate shape, and fine aggregate shapes are the four main contributing factors to the ITZ percolation. Compared with the existing literature, the proposed model here has a broader range of applications (e.g., mortar, concrete, and other granular systems) in the 2D case and can provide the larger predicted results, which may be closer to reality.

Recently, copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) have attracted great research interest for their low synthesis cost, wide application, and easy functionalization. Until now, CuNCs have been developed and applied in multi-fields such as sensing, catalysis, light-emitting diode manufacturing, and cell imaging. Furthermore, the application of heavy metal ions (HMIs) detection is also regarded as a major part of fluorescence sensing and the necessity of detecting the makeup of HMIs (Ag+, Te3+, Co2+, Se6+, Hg2+, Mn2+, etc.) in organisms and the environment. This has promoted the development of CuNCs in fluorescence sensing. This paper reviews the research progress of CuNCs detection in HMIs, which can be divided into four parts. The synthesis and characterization of CuNCs are first described. Then, the synthesis methods making the types of CuNCs more varied are also summarized. Furthermore, mechanisms of fluorescence changes induced by HMIs are explained. After that, the relevant reports of CuNCs in several typical HMI detection are further listed. In addition, combined with the above content, the challenges and prospects of CuNCs in HMIs detection are also proposed.

Background and AimsEmergency endoscopy is recommended for patients with acute esophageal variceal bleeding (EVB) and their prognosis has improved markedly over past decades due to the increased specialization of endoscopic practice. The study aimed to compare outcomes following emergency endoscopic injection sclerotherapy (EIS) and endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) in cirrhotic patients with acute EVB.MethodsCirrhotic patients with acute EVB who underwent emergency endoscopy were retrospectively enrolled from 2013 to 2020 across 34 university hospitals from 30 cities. The primary outcome was the incidence of 5-day rebleeding after emergency endoscopy. Subgroup analysis was stratified by Child-Pugh class and bleeding history. A 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed.ResultsA total of 1,017 and 382 patients were included in EIS group and EVL group, respectively. The 5-day rebleeding incidence was similar between EIS group and EVL group (4% vs. 5%, P = 0.45). The result remained the same after PSM (P = 1.00). Among Child-Pugh class A, B and C patients, there were no differences in the 5-day rebleeding incidence between the two groups after PSM (P = 0.25, 0.82, and 0.21, respectively). As for the patients with or without bleeding history, the differences between EIS group and EVL group were not significant after PSM (P = 1.00 and 0.26, respectively).ConclusionThe nationwide cohort study indicates that EIS and EVL are both efficient emergency endoscopic treatment strategies for acute EVB. EIS should not be dismissed as an economical and effective emergency endoscopic treatment strategy of acute EVB. ClincialTrials.gov number NCT04307264.

Background and PurposeSuccessful recanalization after the first pass of the device in endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) can significantly improve patients' prognosis. We aimed to investigate the possible factors that influence achieving the first-pass effect (FPE).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the patients who underwent EVT caused by anterior circulation large vessel occlusion stroke (ALVOS) in our center. The FPE was defined as a successful recanalization [modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) 2b/3 defined as modified FPE (mFPE); mTICI 3 as true FPE (tFPE)] after one pass of the device without rescue therapy. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to explore the predictors of FPE and the relationship between FPE and prognosis.ResultsThere were 278 patients (age, 69.3 ± 10.9 years, male, 51.1%) included, 30.2% of them achieved mFPE, while 21.2% achieved tFPE. We found the higher clot burden score (CBS), the truncal-type occlusion, and the favorable anatomy of both extracranial and intracranial segments of the internal carotid artery (ICA) were associated with achieving mFPE. The higher CBS and truncal-type occlusion were statistically significant predictors of tFPE. Moreover, FPE was significantly associated with improved clinical outcomes, regardless of mFPE and tFPE.ConclusionsThe CBS, tortuosity of ICA, and angiographic occlusion type were independent predictors of achieving FPE. The rate of improved clinical and safety outcomes was higher in patients with FPE, which has important clinical significance.

IMP-45, a variant of IMP-9, is one of the dominant metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) in clinical carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) isolates in China. The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution and mechanism of dissemination of blaIMP-45. MBL genes were detected by PCR in 173 non-duplicate CRPA isolates collected from Hospital HS in Shanghai and 605 P. aeruginosa isolates from a multicenter surveillance of blaIMP-45 in China. In total, 17 IMP-45-producers (14 from Hospital HS and 3 from other hospitals) were identified. Molecular typing identified an outbreak of 11 IMP-45-producing ST508 CRPA in the ICU of Hospital HS. Conjugation assays and whole genome sequencing were conducted among IMP-45-producers. Genomic comparison revealed that 16 blaIMP-45-carrying plasmids (9 from this study and 7 from GenBank) shared a similar backbone with IncP-2 blaIMP-9-carrying plasmid pOZ176 but lacked repA-oriV-parAB region. repA2 gene was presented in pOZ176, blaIMP-45-carrying plasmids (17 from this study and 7 from GenBank) and 15 megaplasmids from GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis of repA2 showed that most blaIMP-45-carrying plasmids were clustered into a sublineage separate from the one containing pOZ176. This IncP-2 plasmid sublineage contributed to the dissemination of blaIMP-45 among genetically diverse P. aeruginosa and recruited multiple resistance genes during its evolution.

Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is not only one of the most important oil crops in the world, but it is also an important vegetable crop with a high value nutrients and metabolites. However, rapeseed is often severely damaged by adverse stresses, such as low temperature, pathogen infection and so on. Glyoxalase I (GLYI) and glyoxalase II (GLYII) are two enzymes responsible for the detoxification of a cytotoxic metabolite methylglyoxal (MG) into the nontoxic S-D-lactoylglutathione, which plays crucial roles in stress tolerance in plants. Considering the important roles of glyoxalases, the GLY gene families have been analyzed in higher plans, such as rice, soybean and Chinese cabbage; however, little is known about the presence, distribution, localizations and expression of glyoxalase genes in rapeseed, a young allotetraploid. In this study, a total of 35 BnaGLYI and 30 BnaGLYII genes were identified in the B. napus genome and were clustered into six and eight subfamilies, respectively. The classification, chromosomal distribution, gene structure and conserved motif were identified or predicted. BnaGLYI and BnaGLYII proteins were mainly localized in chloroplast and cytoplasm. By using publicly available RNA-seq data and a quantitative real-time PCR analysis (qRT-PCR), the expression profiling of these genes of different tissues was demonstrated in different developmental stages as well as under stresses. The results indicated that their expression profiles varied among different tissues. Some members are highly expressed in specific tissues, BnaGLYI11 and BnaGLYI27 expressed in flowers and germinating seed. At the same time, the two genes were significantly up-regulated under heat, cold and freezing stresses. Notably, a number of BnaGLY genes showed responses to Plasmodiophora brassicae infection. Overexpression of BnGLYI11 gene in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings confirmed that this gene conferred freezing tolerance. This study provides insight of the BnaGLYI and BnaGLYII gene families in allotetraploid B. napus and their roles in stress resistance, and important information and gene resources for developing stress resistant vegetable and rapeseed oil.

Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a pathogen that causes substantial economic losses to the swine industry. With the emergence and widespread of PRV variants since 2011 in China, current commercial vaccines cannot provide complete protection against PRV infection. Therefore, antiviral drugs may work as an alternative way to control and prevent PRV. In this study, the inhibitory effects and underlying molecular mechanisms of meclizine against PRV were studied. Meclizine displayed a significant inhibitory effect against PRV when it was added before, simultaneously with, or after virus infection. The inhibitory effect of meclizine occurred during viral entry and cell-to-cell spreading but not at viral attachment into PK-15 cells. Meclizine also inhibited viral particle release at the late stage of infection. The antiviral effect of meclizine was tested in mice, and the results showed that meclizine reduced the severity of clinical symptoms and the viral loads in tissues, and delayed the death, after PRV challenge. The above results indicated that meclizine had an inhibitory effect on PRV. Our findings will contribute to the development of potential therapeutic drugs against PRV infection.

Phosphorus (P) is a nonrenewable resource, which is one of the major challenges for sustainable agriculture. Although phosphite (Phi) can be absorbed by the plant cells through the Pi transporters, it cannot be metabolized by plant and unable to use as P fertilizers for crops. However, transgenic plants that overexpressed phosphite dehydrogenase (PtxD) from bacteria can utilize phosphite as the sole P source. In this study, we aimed to improve the catalytic efficiency of PtxD from Ralstonia sp.4506 (PtxDR4506), by directed evolution. Five mutations were generated by saturation mutagenesis at the 139th site of PtxD R4506 and showed higher catalytic efficiency than native PtxDR4506. The PtxDQ showed the highest catalytic efficiency (5.83-fold as compared to PtxDR4506) contributed by the 41.1% decrease in the Km and 2.5-fold increase in the kcat values. Overexpression of PtxDQ in Arabidopsis and rice showed increased efficiency of phosphite utilization and excellent development when phosphite was used as the primary source of P. High-efficiency PtxD transgenic plant is an essential prerequisite for future agricultural production using phosphite as P fertilizers.

ABSTRACT: It is well-known that Rayleigh wave, also known as surface acoustic wave (SAW), solutions in semi-infinite solids are plane waves with signatory properties like the distinct velocity and exponentially decaying deformation in the depth. Applications of Rayleigh waves are focused on the deformation and energy in the vicinity of surface of solids and less loss in the propagation. A generalized model of Rayleigh waves in axisymmetric mode is established and solutions are obtained with cylindrical coordinates. It is found that the Rayleigh waves also propagate in the axisymmetric mode with slow decay in radius, confirming the existence of surface acoustic waves is irrelevant to coordinate system. On the other hand, the solutions can be treated as plane waves in regions far away from the source. Furthermore, the particle trajectory of axisymmetric SAW is a line with constant slope rather than the signatory ellipse in Cartesian coordinate case. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) was previously shown to induce a certain level of cellular stress during viral replication. Unfolded protein response (UPR) is a cellular stress response responsible for coping with stress and cellular survival. However, the pathway leading to the induction of UPR that may influence PRRSV replication is still unknown. Here, we found that PRRSV infection induced UPR prior to interferon response. Induction of UPR significantly enhanced the expression of interferon and interferon-related genes, thus leading to the suppression of PRRSV infection. Next, we explored the underlying mechanisms of UPR-induced antiviral response. We found that induction of UPR promoted the expression of protein kinase R (PKR), and PKR was highly correlated with the reduction of PRRSV replication. Furthermore, tunicamycin stimulation and PKR overexpression activated NF-κB and interferon response at the early stage of PRRSV infection, thus reinforcing the expression of type I interferons and proinflammatory cytokines and leading to inhibition of PRRSV. In addition, PRRSV nsp4 was shown to reduce the expression of PKR. These findings might have implications for our understandings of the host’s immune mechanism against PRRSV and a new strategy of PRRSV to evade the host antiviral immunity.

Background: Elevated blood pressure (BP) can cause blood–brain barrier disruption and facilitates brain edema formation. We aimed to investigate the association of BP level after thrombectomy with the development of malignant cerebral edema (MCE) in patients treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT).Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent EVT for an anterior circulation ischemic stroke were enrolled from three comprehensive stroke centers. BP was measured hourly during the first 24 h after thrombectomy. MCE was defined as swelling causing a midline shift on the follow-up imaging within 5 days after EVT. Associations of various BP parameters, including mean BP, maximum BP (BPmax), and BP variability (BPV), with the development of MCE were analyzed.Results: Of the 498 patients (mean age 66.9 ± 11.7 years, male 58.2%), 97 (19.5%) patients developed MCE. Elevated mean systolic BP (SBP) (OR, 1.035; 95% CI, 1.006–1.065; P = 0.017) was associated with a higher likelihood of MCE. The best SBPmax threshold that predicted the development of MCE was 165 mmHg. Additionally, increases in BPV, as evaluated by SBP standard deviation (OR, 1.061; 95% CI, 1.003–1.123; P = 0.039), were associated with higher likelihood of MCE.Interpretation: Elevated mean SBP and BPV were associated with a higher likelihood of MCE. Having a SBPmax > 165 mm Hg was the best threshold to discriminate the development of MCE. These results suggest that continuous BP monitoring after EVT could be used as a non-invasive predictor for clinical deterioration due to MCE. Randomized clinical studies are warranted to address BP goal after thrombectomy.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a fatal disease and has become a burden on the global health system. Recent studies have suggested that artificial intelligence (AI) could be used to make a diagnosis and predict venous thrombosis more accurately. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to better evaluate the performance of AI in the prediction and diagnosis of venous thrombosis. PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE were used to identify relevant studies. Of the 741 studies, 12 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the meta-analysis. Among them, 5 studies included a training set and test set, and 7 studies included only a training set. In the training set, the pooled sensitivity was 0.87 (95% CI 0.79-0.92), the pooled specificity was 0.95 (95% CI 0.89-0.97), and the area under the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curve was 0.97 (95% CI 0.95-0.98). In the test set, the pooled sensitivity was 0.87 (95% CI 0.74-0.93), the pooled specificity was 0.96 (95% CI 0.79-0.99), and the area under the SROC curve was 0.98 (95% CI 0.97-0.99). The combined results remained significant in the subgroup analyzes, which included venous thrombosis type, AI type, model type (diagnosis/prediction), and whether the period was perioperative. In conclusion, AI may aid in the diagnosis and prediction of venous thrombosis, demonstrating high sensitivity, specificity and area under the SROC curve values. Thus, AI has important clinical value.

Viruses depend on the metabolic mechanisms of the host to support viral replication. We utilize an approach based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography/Q Exactive HF-X Hybrid Quadrupole-Orbitrap Mass (UHPLC-QE-MS) to analyze the metabolic changes in PK-15 cells induced by the infections of the pseudorabies virus (PRV) variant strain and Bartha K61 strain. Infections with PRV markedly changed lots of metabolites, when compared to the uninfected cell group. Additionally, most of the differentially expressed metabolites belonged to glycerophospholipid metabolism, sphingolipid metabolism, purine metabolism, and pyrimidine metabolism. Lipid metabolites account for the highest proportion (around 35%). The results suggest that those alterations may be in favor of virion formation and genome amplification to promote PRV replication. Different PRV strains showed similar results. An understanding of PRV-induced metabolic reprogramming will provide valuable information for further studies on PRV pathogenesis and the development of antiviral therapy strategies.

Background: Blood pressure (BP), recanalization status, and collateral circulation are important factors for cerebral autoregulation after stroke. We aimed to investigate the association of various BP variability (BPV) parameters with clinical outcomes after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) according to recanalization and collateral status. Methods: We included 502 consecutive patients who underwent MT due to anterior circulation large vessel occlusion stroke at three comprehensive stroke centers. BPV parameters were standard deviation (SD), maximum/minimum BP, coefficient of variation (CV) and successive variation (SV). The clinical outcomes included 90-day functional outcome assessed by modified Rankin Scale score and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH). Results: Among the included patients, 219 (43.6%) achieved good functional outcomes and 59 (11.8%) developed sICH. After adjusting for confounders, higher systolic BP (SBP) variability [CV (odds ratio (OR), 1.089, p = 0.035), SV (OR, 1.082, p = 0.004). and SD (OR, 1.074, p = 0.027)] was associated with a lower likelihood of a favorable outcome. In addition, higher SBP [CV (OR, 1.156, p = 0.001) and SD (OR, 1.118, p = 0.001)] were significantly associated with increased odds of sICH. Moreover, the relationship between BPV and the outcomes depended on recanalization status. However, regardless of collateral status, a higher BPV after MT was associated with worse outcomes. Conclusions: Higher SBP SD and CV during the first 24 h after MT was a powerful predictor of worse clinical outcomes, regardless of the collateral status. However, the effects of BPV on outcomes were more substantial among patients with successful reperfusion.

The monoclinic YCOB crystal still maintains good piezoelectric properties at 800 °C; thus, it has a good application prospect in high-temperature piezoelectric acoustic wave sensors. However, due to the lower symmetry compared crystals in trigonal and tetragonal systems, the exciting characteristics of piezoelectric plates based on monoclinic YCOB crystals are more complicated. The vibration analysis model of lateral-field-excitation (LFE) devices based on monoclinic crystals is scarce; thus, the coupling relationships between different vibration modes and energy-trapping characteristics of the devices are unclear, which hinders the optimal design of devices. In this paper, by using Mindlin plate theory, the high-frequency vibrations of piezoelectric resonators based on monoclinic YCOB crystal plates excited by a lateral electric field are modeled and analyzed. The coupling relationships between the vibration modes of the device are clarified. The influences of the electrode width, electrode/plate mass ratio and electrode gap value on resonances and energy-trapping characteristics of the device are achieved. In addition, the effects of the structure parameters on the mass sensitivity of the monoclinic YCOB LFE devices are investigated, which are further verified by FEM simulations. The results are crucial to obtaining good resonance and sensing characteristics for LFE high-temperature piezoelectric sensors based on crystals with monoclinic symmetry.

Low-frequency flexural vibration plays a significant role in beam vibration control. To efficiently attenuate the propagation of flexural vibration at a low-frequency range, this paper proposes a new type of a phononic crystals beam with an adjustable band gap. The governing equations of flexural vibration in a periodic beam are established based on the Euler theory and Timoshenko theory. The band structures are calculated by the plane wave expansion method, the attenuation properties and transmission response curves with a finite periodic beam are calculated by the spectral element method and finite element method. The effects of the elastic foundation and axial stress on band gaps are discussed in detail, and the regulation of the temperature field on the band gap is emphatically studied. The theoretical and numerical results show that the elastic foundation and axial stress have significant influence on the band gap, and the location and width of the band gaps can be adjusted effectively when the Young’s modulus of PBT is changed by a varying temperature. The results are very useful for understanding and optimizing the design for composite vibration isolation beams.

Objective: To investigate whether methylene blue (MB) treatment can reverse neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction caused by oxygen glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD) injury and then investigate whether MB treatment can reduce neuronal apoptosis and improve blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity in traumatic brain injury (TBI) animals.Methods: Reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) were used to evaluate mitochondrial function. The terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay was used to assess neuronal apoptosis in vitro. TUNEL and immunofluorescence staining for neuronal nuclei (NeuN) were combined to assess neuronal apoptosis in vivo. An Evans blue (EB) permeability assay and brain water content (BWC) were used to measure BBB permeability in vivo. The Morris water maze (MWM), rotarod test, and modified Neurological Severity Score (mNSS) test were employed to assess the prognosis of TBI mice.Results: MB treatment significantly reversed neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction caused by OGD injury. Both in vitro and in vivo, MB treatment reduced neuronal apoptosis and improved BBB integrity. In TBI animals, treatment with MB not only improved cognitive and motor function caused by TBI but also significantly improved overall neurological function.Conclusions: Our findings suggest that MB is a potential candidate for the treatment of TBI. Future research should focus on other therapeutic effects and mechanisms of MB in secondary brain injury.

In this work, lateral-field-excitation (LFE) piezoelectric sensors based on polarity inversion layer are designed and fabricated, then frequency stabilities and sensitivities on electric property changes of liquids are tested. Because the polarity inversion layer can suppress the spurious modes, the stabilities of the LFE devices with a polarity inversion layer are obviously better than that of LFE devices with no polarity inversion layer. On the changes of liquid conductivity and permittivity, the sensitivities of the LFE devices with a polarity inversion layer are 2.4 times and 2.1 times higher than that of LFE devices with no polarity inversion layer, respectively. The polarity inversion layer of the lithium niobate crystal plate can be realized conveniently by heat treatment, therefore, the technology of the polarity inversion layer can play an important role in improving the sensing performances of LFE sensors.

Phenylethynyl-terminated aromatic polyimides meet requirements of resin transfer molding (RTM) and exhibits high glass transition temperature (Tg) were prepared. Moreover, the relationship between the polyimide backbones structure and their melting stability was investigated. The phenylethynyl-terminated polyimides were based on 4,4′-(hexafluorosiopropylidene)-diphthalic anhydride (6FDA) and different diamines of 3,4′-oxydianiline (3,4′-ODA), m-phenylenediamine (m-PDA) and 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFDB) were prepared. These oligoimides exhibit excellent melting flowability with wide processing temperature window and low minimum melt viscosities (gs, 363–391 °C) and good tensile strength (51–66 MPa). The cure kinetics studied by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR) characterization and density functional theory (DFT) definitely confirmed that the electron-withdrawing ability of oligoimide backbone can tremendously affect the curing reactivity of terminated phenylethynyl groups. The replacement of 3,4′-ODA units by m-PDA or TFDB units increase the electron-withdrawing ability of the backbone, which increase the curing rate of terminated phenylethynyl groups at processing temperatures, hence results in the worse melting stability.

Objectives. Unknown onset stroke (UOS) is usually excluded from intravenous thrombolysis concerning the unclear symptom onset time. Attempts have been done to use thrombolytic therapy in these patients. The current meta-analysis was done to examine the efficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis in UOS. Methods. PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched for studies comparing thrombolysis with conservative therapy among UOSs. Data of good outcome (mRS, 0-2), mortality, and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and symptomatic ICH (sICH) were extracted and analyzed using the Revman 5.2 software. Results. In total, 8 studies with 1271 subjects (542 with thrombolysis and 729 with conservative therapy) were included in this meta-analysis. The data showed that patients receiving thrombolysis had a higher incidence of 90-day good outcome (P=0.0005) than conservative therapy. The comparison of discharge (P=0.89) and 90-day mortality (P=0.10) in both groups did not find any significances. The incidences of ICH (P=0.42) and sICH (P=0.06) were relatively comparable between the two therapies. Conclusions. Intravenous thrombolysis is a better choice for UOS patients for its efficacy and safety. In addition, pretreatment imaging assessment is beneficial for improving the efficacy of thrombolytic therapy. However, it needs more supporting evidences for clinical use in the future.

In the paper, a phononic crystal plate composed of a magnetorheological elastomer with adjustable band gaps in the low frequency range is constructed. The dispersion relations of Lamb waves are studied by the supercell plane wave expansion method. The transmission responses as well as the displacement fields of Lamb waves are calculated by the finite element method. The influence of geometric parameters on the band gaps, the regulation effect of the volume ratio of Fe particles and the bias magnetic field on the band gaps are analyzed. Based on the numerical results, we find that the volume ratio of Fe particles and the magnetic field affect the band gap effectively. The location and width of the band gaps can be adjusted within a broad frequency range by varying the geometric parameters and magnetic field. We can control the band gap, achieve an appropriate and wide low band gap by selecting proper geometric parameters and applying an external contactless magnetic field to deal with complicated and changeable engineering environment. The results are useful for understanding and optimizing the design of composite vibration isolation plates.

In the present study, piezoelectric resonators under lateral field excitation (LFE) based on a LiTaO3 single crystal are modeled and analyzed. An electrically forced vibration study is employed to acquire the motional capacitance curve and vibration mode shapes. A finite element approach is utilized to investigate the influences of some basic parameters, such as the electrode/plate mass ratio, electrode gap, and electrode width on resonance characteristics. In addition, the design criteria for the gap and width of the electrode of the LiTaO3 LFE resonators are obtained by analyzing the effects of those parameters on vibration strain distributions. The obtained results are essential for designing LFE piezoelectric resonators by using a LiTaO3 single crystal.

Cognitive and behavioral impairments are common in patients with abnormal thyroid function; these impairments cause a reduction in their quality of life. The current study investigates the decision making performance in patients with hyperthyroidism to explore the possible mechanism of their cognitive and behavioral impairments.Thirty-eight patients with hyperthyroidism and forty healthy control subjects were recruited to perform the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT), which assessed decision making under ambiguous conditions.Patients with hyperthyroidism had a higher score on the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (Z-SAS), and exhibited poorer executive function and IGT performance than did healthy control subjects. The patients preferred to choose decks with a high immediate reward, despite a higher future punishment, and were not capable of effectively using feedback information from previous choices. No clinical characteristics were associated with the total net score of the IGT in the current study.Patients with hyperthyroidism had decision-making impairment under ambiguous conditions. The deficits may result from frontal cortex and limbic system metabolic disorders and dopamine dysfunction.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma and to investigate the correlations between anxiety, depression, sleep, self-efficacy, and PRL levels. Methods: This retrospective study included 176 patients with prolactinoma who received outpatient treatment at the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University from May 2017 to August 2022. The general information questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), and General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used for data collection. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) model was used to analyze the factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma. GEE single-effect analysis was used to compare PRL levels at different time points between anxiety group and nonanxiety group, between insomnia group and normal group, and between low, medium, and high self-efficacy groups. Results: Themedian baseline PRL level and the PRL levels at 1, 3, 6, and 12months of follow-upwere 268.50 ng/ml, 122.25 ng/ml, 21.20 ng/ml, 19.65 ng/ml, and 16.10 ng/ml, respectively. Among patients with prolactinoma, 59.10% had anxiety (HADS-A score = 7.35 ± 3.34) and 28.98% had depression (HADS-D score = 5.23 ± 3.87), 9.10% had sleep disorders (AIS score = 6.10 ± 4.31) and 54.55% had low self-efficacy (GSES score = 2.13 ± 0.83). Educational level, tumor size, number of visits, sleep quality, anxiety level, and self-efficacy level were found to be factors influencing PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma (P<0.05). Higher PRL levels were observed in the anxiety group compared to the non-anxiety group (P<0.001), in the insomnia group compared to the normal group (P<0.05), and in the low selfefficacy group compared to the medium and high self-efficacy groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: PRL levels in patients with prolactinoma are related to education level, tumor size, number of visits, anxiety, self-efficacy, and sleep but not depression.
