Abstract

The ability to estimate the current affective statuses of web users has considerable potential for the realization of user-centric services in the society. However, in real-world web services, it is difficult to determine the type of data to be used for such estimation, as well as collecting the ground truths of such affective statuses. We propose a novel method of such estimation based on the combined use of user web search queries and mobile sensor data. The system was deployed in our product server stack, and a large-scale data analysis with more than 11,000,000 users was conducted. Interestingly, our proposed "Nation-wide Mood Score," which bundles the mood values of users across the country, (1) shows the daily and weekly rhythm of people's moods, (2) explains the ups and downs of people's moods in the COVID-19 pandemic, which is inversely synchronized to the number of new COVID-19 cases, and (3) detects the linkage with big news, which may affect many user's mood states simultaneously, even in a fine-grained time resolution, such as the order of hours., Comment: submitted to The Web Conference 2022. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2011.00665

Abstract

Owing to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19), several universities have closed their campuses for preventing the spread of infection. Consequently, the university classes are being held over the Internet, and students attend these classes from their homes. While the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to be prolonged, the online-centric lifestyle has raised concerns about secondary health issues caused by reduced physical activity (PA). However, the actual status of PA among university students has not yet been examined in Japan. Hence, in this study, we collected daily PA data (including the data corresponding to the number of steps taken and the data associated with six types of activities) by employing smartphones and thereby analyzed the changes in the PA of university students. The PA data were collected over a period of ten weeks from 305 first-year university students who were attending a mandatory class of physical education at the university. The obtained results indicate that compared to the average number of steps taken before the COVID-19 pandemic (6474.87 steps), the average number of steps taken after the COVID-19 pandemic (3522.5 steps) has decreased by 45.6%. Furthermore, the decrease in commuting time (7 AM to 10 AM), classroom time, and extracurricular activity time (11 AM to 12 AM) has led to a decrease in PA on weekdays owing to reduced unplanned exercise opportunities and has caused an increase in the duration of being in the stationary state in the course of daily life., Comment: 12 pages, in Japanese, 16 figures and 2 tables

5. $1/N$ correction in holographic Wilson loop from quantum gravity

Abstract

We study $1/N$ corrections to a Wilson loop in holographic duality. Extending the AdS/CFT correspondence beyond the large $N$ limit is an important but a subtle issue, as it needs quantum gravity corrections in the gravity side. To find a physical property of the quantum corrected geometry of near-horizon black 0-branes previously obtained by Hyakutake, we evaluate a Euclidean string worldsheet hanging down in the geometry, which corresponds to a rectangular Wilson loop in the $SU(N)$ quantum mechanics with 16 supercharges at a finite temperature with finite $N$. We find that the potential energy defined by the Wilson loop increases due to the $1/N$ correction, therefore the quantum gravity correction weakens the gravitational attraction., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures

人間学・人類学 : 論文, 線引き問題は、科学とそれ以外のもの、とりわけ疑似科学とを分けるものは何か、どのような基準で両者を区別することができるかという問題を考える科学哲学上の問題であるが、提案された基準はどれもうまくいかず、かつてほど盛んに研究されなくなってしまった分野である。線引き問題自体についての批判もたくさんあり、Laudan(1983a) の批判は強力なものとして知られている。しかし、近年主に疑似科学の問題に対処すべきという視点から、線引き問題を考え直そうとする動きがあり、古典的なアプローチとは異なる仕方で、いくつかの有力な解決法が提案されてきている。そうした状況を受けて、本論文では、線引き問題を新たな問題として解釈して解決法を提案することにした。まず従来の線引き問題への批判を検討して(2節)、そうした批判では解決できない問題が残っていることを指摘する(3節)。さらに、これまで考えられてこなかった線引き問題を考える目的や方法、前提を再考し、実際的な問題を解決するための線引き基準のする(4節)。さらに疑似科学についてのいくつかの分析を整理し(5節)、実際的な問題において科学を決めるための方法として、Resnik(2000) によるプラグマティック・アプローチという方法を検討する(6節)。さらにこの方法のいくつかの問題点を解消するために、Pigliucci(2013)の多次元分類法を組み合せたアプローチの有効性について議論する。, The demarcation problem is a philosophical problem to find a solution to distinguish science and non-science or pseudo-science, and it has been of keen interest of philosophers of science until the mid-twentieth century. However, since most solutions to this problem have been rejected, philosophers gradually doubted the existence of a sharp boundary between the two, and then some philosophers began to criticize the problem itself. There are many criticisms on this, but especially, the criticism of Laudan (1983a) is known to be a very powerful one. However, recently, from the viewpoint of dealing with the issues of pseudoscience, some philosophers claim to rethink the demarcation problem, and several prospective solutions have been proposed in a different way from the traditional approach. In this situation, I decided to interpret the demarcation problem in a different way and propose a new solution. First, we examined the criticisms of the demarcation problem (section 2), and point out that there remain some problems that cannot be solved by such criticisms (section 3). Furthermore, we reconsider the purposes, methods and premises to consider the demarcation problem in terms of practical concerns (Section 4). Also, we examine several analyses of pseudoscience (Section 5), consider the pragmatic approach proposed by Resnik (2000) and refi ne it with Pigliucci (2013)'s multidimensional continuous classifi cation and confi rm that the revised pragmatic approach is a viable method to evaluate science in terms of practical concerns (section 6).

Abstract

Background: The safety and feasibility of using 1-month dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) followed by P2Y 12 inhibitor monotherapy for patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with thin-strut biodegradable polymer drug-eluting stents (BP-DES) in daily clinical practice remain uncertain.Methods and Results: The REIWA region-wide registry is a prospective study conducted in 1 PCI center and 9 local hospitals in northern Japan. A total of 1,202 patients who successfully underwent final PCI using BP-DES (Synergy: n=400; Ultimaster: n=401; Orsiro: n=401), were enrolled in the registry, and received 1-month DAPT followed by P2Y 12 inhibitor (prasugrel 3.75 mg/day or clopidogrel 75 mg/day) monotherapy. The primary endpoint was a composite of cardiovascular and bleeding events at 12 months, including cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction (MI), definite stent thrombosis (ST), ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, and Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) major or minor bleeding. Based on the results of a previous study, we set the performance goal at 5.0%. Over the 1-year follow-up, the primary endpoint occurred in 3.08% of patients, which was lower than the predefined performance goal (P non-inferiority <0.0001). Notably, definite ST occurred in only 1 patient (0.08%) within 1 year (at 258 days). No differences were observed in the primary endpoint between stent types., Conclusions: The REIWA region-wide registry suggests that 1-month DAPT followed by P2Y 12 inhibitor monotherapy is safe and feasible for Japanese patients with BP-DES.

Abstract

The sympathetic nervous system plays an important role in life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). Bilateral cardiac sympathetic denervation (BCSD) is performed for refractory VAs. We sought to assess our institutional experience with BCSD in managing treatment-resistant monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (MMVT) in heart failure patients with a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).Four patients with HFrEF (EF 30.0 ± 8.2%, New York Heart Association [NYHA] class IV 1) underwent BCSD for MMVT (VT storm 3, repetitive VT requiring implantable cardioverter defibrillator [ICD] therapy 1) refractory to antiarrhythmic drugs, catheter ablation and ICD therapy. BCSD was effective for suppressing VT in 3 patients for whom deep sedation was effective for suppressing VT. One patient remained alive after 14 months of follow-up without episodes of VT. One patient died of acute myocardial infarction before discharge and 1 patient died from unknown cause at 3 days post-discharge. In contrast, BCSD was completely ineffective for suppressing VT in a patient with NYHA class IV for whom deep sedation and stellate ganglion block were ineffective. This patient died on the 10th post-CSD day, despite left ventricular assist device implantation. In all cases, BCSD was successfully performed without procedure-related complications.Despite the limited number of cases, our results showed that BCSD in patients with HFrEF suppressed refractory MMVT in acute-phase except for a patient with NYHA class IV; however, the prognoses were not good. BCSD may be a treatment option at an earlier stage of NYHA and a bridge to orthotopic heart transplantation, even if BCSD is effective for suppressing VAs.
