Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to promote and share the research output of Bennett University (BU), India through Digital Repository Services (DRSs). It aims at encouraging, assisting and accelerating the research fraternity of the university. Design/methodology/approach -- This paper explains about the initiatives adopted by the LRC at BU for developing DRS using open-space software, Dspace for long-term preservation of intellectual assets and increase the visibility of the institute in global landscape. Findings -- DRS at BU was developed with an aim to preserve and disseminate the intellectual assets of BU, encourage budding talents and increase BU's visibility in global landscape. Despite the constraints at the experimental phase, DRS at BU collected over 707 publications (October 2021) and the number is ever increasing. Though there were some initial glitches before and after the implementation process but keeping a flexible approach, LRC will continue mapping solutions for BU. Originality/value -- This paper briefs the case study of one of the core services' initiation (DRS) including its design, development and implementation at LRC-BU using open-source software Dspace (Version 5.5). This paper introduces the Government of India Initiative on linguistic data creation in Indian languages. The Linguistic Data Consortium for Indian Languages (LDC-IL) is a fully funded Government of India scheme established in 2007 to cater to the needs of linguistic resources required for the development of language technology in Indian languages. LDC-IL worked silently for more than a decade with a team of around regular fifty people and involving thousands of resource persons, covering twenty major languages of India. Part of the output of LDC-IL was launched in April 2019 by the Hon'ble Vice President of India. This paper, the first introductory paper in an academic journal, aims to give a brief of the works done by LDC-IL and how these works are crucial in the development of language technology for Indian languages. Within a short span of eight months of its release, the language resources released by LDC-IL have been procured and utilized by scores of industry and academic bodies and individual researchers, including major industry leaders like Microsoft, Google, Samsung etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The information and communication technology has given various ways of storing and providing scientific information to the libraries. A digital collection maintained by the university or an academic institution to capture and preserve the intellectual output of its staff and faculty members is called as an institutional repository (IR). The concept of maintaining the IR by academic libraries for the information created by an institution in the form of conference articles, journal articles, audio-video lectures, educational powerpoint presentations, books, patents, etc., is one such way to provide the institutional scientific information openly (with some restriction for the copyrighted articles). The IR has been given a new role to the librarians to be a part of creation of information apart from storing and dissemination of information. Manipal Usniversity (MU) has used EPrints open source software to maintain its IR. This paper describes the elaborative study on Manipal University Digital Repository (MUDR) and its collection growth. Some suggestions that can be implemented to improve the strength and visibility of MUDR are presented, which can be equally applicable to any institutional repository. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to assess the university libraries in North East India regarding their initiatives towards open access movement and conceptualize a model for Open Access Initiatives (OAI). Approach, Design and Methodology: Surveyed and identified all the universities in the eight states of North East India. Covered 11 central, 5 state and 4 private universities to understand open access initiatives taken up by them in their respective libraries collecting data through a semi-structurally designed questionnaire. Using statistical techniques, data have been analyzed to draw empirical conclusions. Findings: The study have revealed various issues associated with the libraries regarding their automation status, digitization process, different motives towards OA, establishment of institutional repositories, challenges and many more. The need for having a model for OAI for all the libraries of the region has been felt. Came out with a proposed model for OAI having eight phases comprising mainly of rejuvenation of library system, digitization, digital archiving, OA publications, constitution of a committee, etc. However, acceptability of the model by the libraries of the region needs to be taken care of by the concerned universities. Originality/value: The study is first of its kind in the area of open access initiatives taken up in the region. Findings provide a new vista for the university libraries, which are added feature in the context of the stock of the existing knowledge in the field. During the last few decades, the whole world has observed tremendous changes, especially in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The advent and the continuous advancements in the ICT has brought a technological revolution in almost every sphere of life, the libraries being no exception. Over the last few decades, there has been a paradigm shift in the role of the libraries from the custodians and caretakers of traditional print resources to the providers of service-oriented digital information resources. With the advancement of ICT, increased use of computer networks, rapid growth of information explosion and growth of internet, libraries are in the way of adopting new ways and means for storage, retrieval and dissemination of information for sustenance in this information age. In this milieu, the present study highlights the use of various types of ICT-based library services and resources provided by the leading university libraries of India. The study is also an effort to know about the availability of different e-resources, presence of digital reference service and institutional repositories, availability of web OPACs and remote access to the electronic resources. The top 25 universities of India were selected for the present study according to the “Times Higher Education" Asia University Rankings 2017. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are the global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, citations and international outlook.
