Library and information science has been at an infant stage in Pakistan, primarily in resource management, description, discovery, and access. The reasons are many, including the lack of interest and use of modern tools, techniques, and best practices by librarians in Pakistan. Finding a solution to these challenges requires a comprehensive study that identifies the current state of libraries in Pakistan. This paper fills this gap in the literature by reviewing the relevant literature published between 2015 and 2021 and selected through a rigorous search and selection methodology. It also analyzes the websites of 82 libraries in Pakistan through a theoretical framework based on various aspects. The findings of this study include: Libraries in Pakistan need a transition from traditional and limited solutions to more advanced information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled, user-friendly, and state-of-the-art systems to produce dynamic, consumable, and sharable knowledge space. They must adopt social semantic cataloging to bring all the stakeholders on a single platform. A libraries consortium should be developed to link users to local, multilingual, and multicultural collections for improved knowledge production, recording, sharing, acquisition, and dissemination. These findings benefit Pakistani libraries, librarians, information science professionals, and researchers in other developing countries. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of its kind providing insights into the current state of libraries in Pakistan through the study of their websites using a rigorous theoretical framework and in the light of the latest relevant literature. The aim of this paper is to explore the behavior of medical students regarding the use of Electronic books (E-books) and Print books (P-books). The objective of the study is to measure the differences with regards in using E-books and P-books to perceptions behavioral intentions among medical students. Quantitative approach and survey research method was used to conduct this study. The self-administered questionnaire valid by field expert was used to gather the data from sample. The population of this study is all medical college libraries affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore. 25 questionnaires from each medical college to be filled by the students through random sampling technique .The data was analyzed in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 20th version. The paper found that medical students are satisfied with usage and accessibility of e-books but they preferred p-books. Professor Dr. Kanwal Ameen is former chairperson of oldest library school of the Sub-Continent, University of the Punjab, Pakistan. She did Master and PhD in Library and Information Science from University of the Punjab. She also did diploma from Netherland, Pre-doc, Post-doc from USA and research fellowship from Japan. She is the most prolific female writer in Library and Information Science field in Pakistan. The aim and objectives of this study is bibliometric analysis of her research contribution. Data has been collected based upon her Curriculum Vitae available at the website of University of the Punjab. She produced 137 research items, includes 81 articles, 34 conference papers, 15 book chapters, 4 books and 3 book-reviews during 27 years of span from 1991 to December 2017. Bibliographic indicators of her research work like chronological distribution, authorship pattern, and channel of communication with geographical affiliation had been assessed. This paper aims to examine how librarians construe organizational culture based on employees' satisfaction, good leadership, and organizational support with knowledge sharing practices relationships. The quantitative research method, using a structured questionnaire comprised of three constructs of Organizational Culture (OC), including employees' satisfaction, good leadership, and organizational support, and six constructs of Knowledge Sharing (KS) (innovation, collaboration, communication channel, trust, loyalty, and ethics), was considered as the most suitable for this study. Correlation research design and Pearson correlation test were used for examining the relationships between OC and KS with respect to academic librarians. The findings disclosed significant relationships between OC and KS among the study participants. Organizational support followed by good leadership style and employees' satisfaction are the strong predictors of knowledge sharing practices in the context of this study. This study has some practical implications for academic library administrators to consider the role of effective organizational culture in promoting knowledge sharing practices among LIS professionals. The purpose of this paper is to identify the usage of Social Networking Sites (SNS), purposes and trends by Pakistani Higher Education Institution (HEI) libraries. It is to evaluate the usefulness of SNS for outreaching to users, marketing of library resources and services and challenges faced by the library professional. This study conducted as a mixed method of research, a literature-based questionnaire was developed to conduct an online survey of the 54, Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized HFJ’s libraries based in two cities of Pakistan: Lahore and Islamabad and interviews were conducted of 15 libraries having presence on social networking sites (SNS). It was found that the Pakistani HEI’s libraries are constructively using social networking sites. The most famously used site is Facebook, while RSS and YouTube were the least used one. None of the responding library present on Linkedln, MySpace and Wikis. Many of the libraries daily update their social media profiles for marketing of library product and services, sharing library news, events and useful links. However, lack of LIS professionals training and awareness to the possible usability of the SNS is challenging. Excellent library services are the backbone of any library. Keeping this in view the libraries are at Aga Khan University providing efficient library and information services to its users according to the present era of digital world. The purpose of this paper is to share the current and upcoming services of AKU libraries across all international campuses in three continents in the context of global developments in the field of library and information science; to motivate other libraries in the region to adopt such a resources and services. This study explores the facilities and problems related to the public sector college libraries of Punjab Province of Pakistan in terms of resources i.e. stock, staff, finance, buildings, furniture etc. It was a quantitative research based on survey method. Cluster sampling technique was used to collect data from college librarians. A structured questionnaire was sent to college librarians through postal mail with self addressed return envelope. 48 respondents out of 63 (76%) returned back-filled questionnaires. The data collected through questionnaire was statistically analyzed using frequency statistics. On the basis of analysis, results have been drawn. Findings revealed the library professionals opinions about problems faced by college libraries in Punjab Province of Pakistan. It has been found that college libraries are facing a lot of problems. They have not proper and purpose built library buildings. They are facing the problems of inadequate staff, lack of furniture, insufficient library material and improper shelving of library material etc. This paper makes recommendations that can help to solve the problems of college libraries especially in Punjab Province and generally in Pakistan. It will help library administrators in policy making and allocation of funds for college libraries. Objective: The prime aim of this study is to review the preventive measures for libraries in current pandemic of COVID-19 in the world and suggest special safety procedures for libraries in Pakistan. Material and Methods: Content analysis approach was used to review the available web literature about the current position of libraries during and after COVID-19. Efforts were made to comment the preventive measures adopted by various library associations and leading libraries of the world. Results: Being a social entity, libraries in Pakistan need to adopt the COVID-19 precautionary measures as in practice in the world libraries. The library practitioners in our country have to follow the same Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in libraries for safety of their users as operated by the international library communities. Library staff and patrons should be trained to safeguard the lives of the society. The various library associations of the country should have to come forward and work for the survival of our libraries in this difficult time through awareness campaign on social media and WhatsApp groups. Online training sessions can also be arranged for the COVID-19 literacy of the library staff and library clientele. Conclusion: The adoption of COVID-19 precautionary measures in libraries will result into a better library culture. There appears a change in reading trends in the growing digital culture around the globe. The current research intended to identify the influence of this culture on the reading behaviour of young adults. A survey of final year Masters students from public and private sector universities in various knowledge domains (sciences and technology, social sciences, and arts and humanities) was conducted. The findings revealed a number of significant differences in both reading patterns and preferred reading formats among students of three knowledge domains. The findings suggest that all subjects should be treated separately when deciding on collection development and library services. This exploratory study proves that the digital environment creates a significant impact on individuals' reading behaviour which needs to be considered by academics and library practitioners. Natural disasters can strike without warning anytime anywhere anyone. There are different types of disasters. The economic losses caused by these disasters are mainly more expensive for developing countries that are vulnerable to the disasters like India and Pakistan in this case. Different types of libraries including university libraries and museums are priceless storehouses of knowledge, which once lost could be lost forever. Disaster planning needs to be done in university libraries to save the knowledge for future generations. This is true for all types of libraries everywhere. To study the situation of disaster management in university libraries of India and Pakistan literature review will be done. Information from various websites of both the countries will be collected. Regarding information on university libraries in Pakistan emails will be sent to select university librarians to find out whether they have any disaster management plans and similar studies be searched in professional literature. Initial review of literature shows a nearly similar infrastructural planning in both the countries at central and state government level. Disaster management is an ignored subject in Pakistan as stated by leading newspaper Dawn. Very few papers on this subject are available from Pakistan and intensive and exhaustive review of literature can lead to valid conclusion. In India this was an ignored area but after tsunami there has been awareness at all levels. Majority of the university libraries are ignorant about this important aspect of library planning but there are a few where this is being practiced. This study will highlight similarities and gaps between the approaches to disaster management in university libraries of these two neighbouring countries with nearly similar disaster conditions. The aim of this study was to explore the status, collection, and challenges of community libraries in the capital of Pakistan. A purposive sampling technique was used for data collection from 12librarians/library in-charges working in these community libraries. This study found that the collection of reading materials in the community libraries was between 4000 to 7000 and offered Web-OPAC, interlibrary loan, books borrow services. These libraries have proper websites, classified books, adequate sitting arrangements, and a heating and cooling system to support the community. Though, these libraries were facing some major challenges such as lack of sufficient funds, lack of training opportunities for LIS, old library building, lack of attention of Government, and non-availability of electronic resources. Similarly, uncomfortable furniture and lack of knowledge about new library trends among librarians were the major obstacles in the effective utilization of community libraries in the capital of Pakistan. Through reliable research work, the findings of this study highlight certain recommendations for developing these community libraries into learning resource centers that could support truly the information needs of the community at large. Emotional intelligence has a strong link with academic anxieties. It is apparent from the published literature that a student with high emotional intelligence would face low academic anxiety and vice versa. Similarly, library anxiety, which is an academic anxiety, also affects students' academic performance. Library anxiety of students may increase or decrease along with their ability to understand and manage their own emotions and those of others. However, there is a dearth of literature on the relationship between these two concepts. Data regarding these concepts were collected from university undergraduates. Findings established significant relationships between emotional intelligence, library anxiety and academic performance among the participants. The basic purpose of the research is to inquire into the underlying reasons of whether or not there is job satisfaction of the library staff at Beacon house School System. A qualitative methodology with Herzberg's two-factor theory has been used for this research.1 Fifteen school librarians took part in the interviews. Despite a few cases, the study revealed a common general concord with Herzberg's reasoning, vis-à-vis the reasons leading to staff satisfaction or dissatisfaction. This study attempts to examine attitude of the members of the parliament (MPs) towards the use and services of National Assembly Library of Pakistan (NALP). Aspects: information use, examine the use of library as well as type of resources used and preferred format and language of use are included in this study. The study seeks to assess the level of importance they place on each of the sources and use of National Assembly Library. Keeping in view the exploratory and explanatory nature of the study's objectives, the study also tries to judge their level of satisfaction with the attitude of staff, quality of information and services provided by the National Assembly Library. The findings suggest that new strategies are needed by the parliamentary library in the attempt to serve the members of the parliament in order that they have convenient access to quality information, to fulfill their parliamentary business and commitment and necessary for legislative matters. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and general job satisfaction of librarians. For this purpose, a quantitative study was conducted on librarians serving in university libraries of Pakistan. A randomly selected sample of Pakistani university librarians completed a questionnaire survey measuring their responses on emotional intelligence and job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis indicated that all indicators of emotional intelligence were significant predictors of job satisfaction. The results showed that self-assessment was the strongest predictor while optimism was the weakest predictor of job satisfaction. The findings are useful for libraries and other organizations interested in developing emotional intelligence and improving workers’ job satisfaction, which ultimately may lead to effective performance. The aim of the study is to explore the service status of special academic libraries of Southern Punjab, Pakistan. It is imperative that the development of the library and its services must be evaluated from time to time in order to bring continuous improvement and qualitative change in the overall functioning of the libraries. The region of Southern Punjab, Pakistan has always been ignored in terms of education, development and progress. The data we recollected through questionnaire survey from library patrons of special academic libraries, for the purpose 160 questionnaires were distributed in the different institutes of Southern Punjab. The return response rate was 75%. The analysis revealed that library users are not satisfied with library services e.g. reading material, circulation, reference and e-services. The libraries of Southern Punjab arc facing many problems due to remote/less development. The recommendations have been formulated to the conclusions of the study like measures for better library services from the institutes, provision of e-library services, hiring of qualified and trained library staff. The aim of this study was to determine the status of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the University Libraries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It covered the details about the hardware, software, e-recourses, in each library and the role of ICT in the provision of services offered. For data collection structured interviews were conducted of the University Librarians. The sample of the study was comprised of the four selected universities: University of Peshawar, Agricultural University, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar and Khyber Medical University (KMU). The major findings revealed that all the major University libraries in Peshawar are using ICT but not adequately or with no proper pace. This weak state of affairs with regard to the status and implementation of ICT is due to many reasons including; insufficient strength of professional staff having lack of ICT skills with absence of training, lack of support of university management having played a crucial role in the present deplorable situation of these libraries in Peshawar. Therefore, both the library and the University's management need to pay serious attention towards the above mentioned problems so that the present status of ICT in the University Libraries may be improved. Due to marketing concept of libraries evaluation of library services are vital in this competitive information age. Therefore to evaluate services of the central library TUB selected a purposive sample of 25 patrons (1UB students of Master and M. Phil) and conducted their face to face interview. The findings revealed that majority students are frequently using library services; however they are not satisfied with internet, Wi-Fi, computer lab and staff assistance within computer lab. There are adequate numbers of patrons having grievances about library staff’s uncooperative attitude. This is a descriptive case-study that examines the impact of different variables (such as: top management commitment; organizational structure; funding; librarians' and staffs motivation; their competence; and auditors' awareness of library operations) to provide an understanding of the situation during and after ISO 9000 QMS implementation in a library setting. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis will be carried out. Triangulation is achieved by employing various tools such as: direct observations, interviews, historic data and literature review.1 Findings: Findings of this research show that implementation of the QMS in libraries can bring positive cultural changes in lifelong learning.
