Materials decay naturally through a process called corrosion in which they react with their surroundings. It is possible to prevent mild steel from corroding in hydrochloric acid (HCl) by applying a variety of corrosion inhibitors. In this work, the novel mononuclear manganese coordination complex [Mn(Hbpz)2(NCS)2] showed promising properties that make it suitable for corrosion prevention applications. In this experiment, different experimental methods were used to evaluate its inhibitory potential. For example, weight loss (WL) showed a 96% reduction in corrosion rate at higher concentrations. EIS was evidence that the concentration effect increases Rct and reduces Cdl. Moreover, the polarization examination demonstrated that C3 is a mixed-type inhibitor. In addition, quantum mechanical and statistical methods were also used, and the effect of temperature was also determined. Besides, thermodynamic equations were used and calculated. The adsorption follows the Langmuir isothermal model and the simulation method confirmed the spontaneous adsorption nature of the complex, which improves the surface characterization results. This study aims to explore the inhibitory action of certain derivatives of Schiff's base, namely 4-(pyridin-2-ylimino) pentan-2-one (CE5),4-(pyrimidin-2-ylimino) pentan-2-one (CE4) and 4-((1H-tetrazol-5-yl) imino) pentan-2-one (CE20) against mild steel (MS) corrosion in 1 M HCl by the gravimetric, stationary and transient method. For additional information on the inhibitory properties of the studied compounds, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and functional density theory (DFT) calculations were also performed. The effectiveness of the Schiff's base derivatives studied follows the order: CE20 > CE4 > CE5. The electrochemical impedance curves show that the corrosion reaction is controlled by a charge transfer process, while the potentiodynamic polarization curves indicate that the synthesized compounds act as a mixed-type inhibitor. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir isotherm. Kinetic, as well as thermodynamic parameters, were calculated and discussed. The increase in EHOMO and decrease in gap energy ΔEgap lead to an increase in the inhibition efficiency. The adsorption and corrosion inhibition behavior of ( E )-2-methyl-N-(thiophen-2-ylmethylidene)aniline ( T ) at steel/1.0 M HCl interface was investigated using gravimetric and electrochemical methods at 308 K. Inhibition efficiency increased with increase in the concentration of new synthesized Tiophene Schiff base. The potentiodynamic polarization studies revealed that this compound as mixed-type inhibitor. Data, obtained from EIS measurements, were analyzed to model the corrosion inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit model; a constant phase element (CPE) has been used. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the components of the Thiophene derivative on the mild steel surface which can be approximated by Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl by some hydrazine derivatives namely: (1 E ,2 E )-1,2-bis(thiophen-2-ylmethylene)hydrazine ( PP2 ) and (1 E ,2 E )-1,2-bis(1 H -pyrrol-2-ylmethylene)hydrazine ( PP3 ) has been investigated using weight loss, electrochemical studies, SEM and quantum chemical calculations. The results showed that PP3 is the best corrosion inhibitor among the three compounds studied and the inhibition efficiency increases with increase in concentration for all the inhibitors. The adsorption of inhibitor molecules on mild steel surface was found to be spontaneous and obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization investigations indicated that the studied inhibitors were mixed type inhibitors. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopic measurements show that the inhibitors form an adsorptive layer on the metallic surface. Some of the inhibitors' quantum chemical parameters are calculated with the DFT method at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. Among the calculated parameters, the LUMO energy, energy gap between the HOMO and LUMO, dipole moments (μ), global chemical hardness (η), softness (σ), and the fraction of electrons transferred from the inhibitor to the iron surface (ΔN) could well describe the experimental observations. Controlling corrosion of metals and their alloys in acidic environments has recently received increasing scientific attention. Therefore, our study investigated three newly synthesized Schiff base (imine) derivatives, namely (3Z,3'Z)-4,4′-(ethane-1,2-diyldiimino)bispent-3-en-2-one (SAP1), (4′E)-4,4′-(pyridine-2,6-diyldinitrilo)dipentan-2-one (SAP2), and (4′E)-4,4′-(benzene-1,3-diyldinitrilo)dipentan-2-one (SAP3) to understand their adsorption on mild steel (MS) surface effects in 1 M HCl solution using electrochemical and theoretical methods. The obtained results show that the three inhibitors have good protective effects. Electrochemical techniques show that the presence of these compounds significantly increases the polarization resistance and influences both the anodic and cathodic reactions. This means that these inhibitors have mixed properties. The stability of these molecules at higher temperatures, from 298 K up to 328 K, was examined by polarization potentiodynamic measurements. This study revealed that these compounds resist temperature by adsorbing on the MS surface to form a protective barrier. Two new synthesized bi-pyrazole-carbohydrazides, namely 1,1′-(propane-1,3-diyl)bis (5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide) (P2PZ) and 1,1′-(oxy bis (ethane -2,1-diyl)) bis (5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-3- Carbohydrazide) (O2PZ) were evaluated as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel (MS) in 1.0 M HCl media. Comparative study of inhibitory action of P2PZ and O2PZ was conducted first using mass loss and electrochemical measurements (potentiodynamic polarization curves, PPC, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, EIS) and it had shown that P2PZ outperforms O2PZ. The electrochemical studies showed a corrosion inhibition efficiency of 95% and 84% at 308 K and 10−3 mol/L of P2PZ and O2PZ, respectively. Their efficiency augmented with augmentation of concentration and decreased with augmentation of temperature. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed that the corrosion inhibition followed a charge transfer process. Polarization curves suggested that the P2PZ and O2PZ acted as mixed-type inhibitors and followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The free energy of adsorption (ΔG ads) values, which lie within the range of -39.94 to -37.36 KJ mol−1, confirmed a physicochemical adsorption process. Comparative study of inhibitory action of M2PyAz and B2PyAz was conducted first using weight loss measurements (WL), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and theoretical computational methods. The inhibition efficiencies of M2PyAz and B2PyAz can reach 98.6% and 87.8% respectively when the optimal concentration is 10–3 M. This result indicates that M2PyAz behave as excellent corrosion inhibitor towards MS because of its molecular size giving a denticity of electron donor atoms. EIS results indicate that the charge transfer resistance increases with augmentation concentration for both inhibitors and the MS corrosion in this system is controlled by a charge transfer process. PDP curves suggest that the M2PyAz and B2PyAz act as mixed type corrosion inhibitors. Free energy of adsorption obtained from the Langmuir isotherm model for both M2PyAz and B2PyAz implies that both molecules inhibit the acid attack mainly by chemisorption. WL-measurements were carried out in temperature range of 308–348 K, illustrating approximately 98.5% and 89% inhibitory efficiency respectively for M2PyAz and B2PyAz after 6 h immersion at 308 K in 1 M HCl solution. SEM images indicates the protective layer growth on the surface of metal in the presence of both inhibitors. SEM images analysis in the presence of both inhibitors confirmed the electrochemical outcomes.
