Abstract

Degeneracy and symmetry have a profound relation in quantum systems. Here, we report gate-tunable subband degeneracy in PbTe nanowires with a nearly symmetric cross-sectional shape. The degeneracy is revealed in electron transport by the absence of a quantized plateau. Utilizing a dual gate design, we can apply an electric field to lift the degeneracy, reflected as emergence of the plateau. This degeneracy and its tunable lifting were challenging to observe in previous nanowire experiments, possibly due to disorder. Numerical simulations can qualitatively capture our observation, shedding light on device parameters for future applications.

Abstract

Anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an autoimmune encephalitis that is a rare complication of ovarian teratoma. The primary treatment is surgical resection of the tumor combined with immunotherapy, however, the pathogenesis of ovarian teratoma associated anti-NMDAR encephalitis is still unclear. In addition, the patients present with various clinical manifestations, with neurological manifestations predominating, which is easy to be misdiagnosed and overlooked, requiring joint diagnosis and treatment by gynecologists and neurologists. This article briefly describes the structure and function of NMDAR, reviews the previous research results on ovarian teratoma associated anti-NMDAR encephalitis, and summarizes the research progress on its pathogenesis, early diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and recurrence, aiming to provide theoretical basis and ideas for better diagnosis and treatment of ovarian teratoma associated anti-NMDAR encephalitis.

17. Flavor dependence of jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions from a Bayesian analysis

Abstract

We investigate the flavor dependence of jet quenching, by performing a systematic analysis of medium modifications on the inclusive jet, $\gamma$+jet, and $b$-jet in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC. Our results from MadGraph+PYTHIA exhibit excellent agreement with experimental measurements of the inclusive jet, $\gamma$+jet and $b$-jet simultaneously in p+p collisions. We then utilize a Bayesian data-driven method to extract systematically the flavor-dependent jet energy loss distributions from experimental data, where the gluon, light quark and $b$-quark initiated energy loss distributions are well constrained and satisfy the predicted flavor hierarchy of jet quenching, i.e. $\langle \Delta E_g \rangle > \langle\Delta E_q\rangle > \langle\Delta E_b\rangle$. It is shown that the quark-initiated jet energy loss distribution shows weaker centrality and $p_\text{T}$ dependence than the gluon-initiated one. We demonstrate the impacts of the slope of initial spectra, color-charge as well as parton mass dependent jet energy attenuation on the $\gamma/b$-jet suppression observed in heavy-ion collisions., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

18. Hadron productions and jet substructures associated with $Z^0/\gamma$ in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC

Abstract

We carry out a detailed study of medium modifications on $Z^0$/$\gamma$+hadron correlations as well as jet substructures in association with $Z^0/\gamma$ in Pb+Pb collisions with $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV at the LHC. We utilize the Linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model to simulate the jet-medium interactions and medium response, and an extended cluster hadronization model to investigate the non-perturbative transition of quarks and gluons into final hadrons in heavy-ion collisions. Including hadronization effect, we can well describe $Z^0/\gamma$+hadrons correlations and $Z^0/\gamma$-tagged jet substructures in both p+p and Pb+Pb collisions simultaneously. Medium modification on jet profile and jet fragmentation functions indicate that particles carrying a large fraction of the jet momentum are generally closely aligned with the jet axis, whereas low-momentum particles are observed to have a much broader angular distribution relative to jet axis in Pb+Pb collisions due to jet-medium interactions. In particular, we find that $Z^0/\gamma$-tagged hadron correlations are sensitive to the soft particles from the dense medium and medium response, while jet-substructures show weak dependence on those soft hadrons with only a fraction of them falling inside the jet area, Comment: 13pages, 11 figures

19. Unraveling Gluon Jet Quenching through $J/\psi$ Production in Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract

Jet quenching has long been regarded as one of the key signatures for the formation of quark-gluon plasma in heavy-ion collisions. Despite significant efforts, the separate identification of quark and gluon jet quenching has remained as a challenge. Here we show that $J/\psi$ in high transverse momentum ($p_\text{T}$) region provides a uniquely sensitive probe of in-medium gluon energy loss since its production at high $p_\text{T}$ is particularly dominated by gluon fragmentation. Such gluon-dominance is first demonstrated for the baseline of proton-proton collisions within the framework of leading power NRQCD factorization formalism. We then use the linear Boltzmann transport model combined with hydrodynamics for the simulation of jet-medium interaction in nucleus-nucleus collisions. The satisfactory description of experimental data on both nuclear modification factor $R_{\text{AA}}$ and elliptic flow $v_2$ reveals, for the first time, that the gluon jet quenching is the driving force for high $p_\text{T}$ $J/\psi$ suppression. This novel finding is further confirmed by the data-driven Bayesian analyses of relevant experimental measurements, from which we also obtain the first quantitative extraction of the gluon energy loss distribution in the quark-gluon plasma., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, version published in Science Bulletin

26. Safety and efficacy of linaclotide combined with polyethylene glycol for bowel preparation

Abstract

Objective To evaluate safety and efficacy of linaclotide combined with polyethylene glycol(PEG) for bowel preparation. Methods A total of 612 patients from Department of Gastroenterology at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University for colonoscopy examination from January to June 2023 were selected. They were divided into group 1(1 L PEG+2 L PEG), group 2(linaclotide+2 L PEG) and group 3(1 L PEG+linaclotide+1 L PEG) by random number table method, with 204 cases in each group. The Ottawa Bowel Preparation Quality Scale(OBPS), the insertion time of colonoscopy, the time of the first defecation, the frequency of defecations, the occurrence of adverse effects and patients' tolerability were compared among the three groups. Results A total of 601 patients completed bowel preparation and accepted colonoscopy. Group 1 exhibited no statistically significant differences to group 2 with regards to OBPS and insertion time. However, Group 2 demonstrated a shorter duration for the time of the first defecation in comparison to both group 1 and group 3(P＜0.05). Group 1 displayed a higher frequency of defecations as compared to Group 2 and Group 3(P＜0.05) . The incidence of adverse reactions was significantly lower in group 2 and group 3 than in group 1(P＜0.05). The overall tolerance score of patients in group 1 was lower than that in group 2 and group 3(P＜0.05). Conclusions The effect of combining 2 L PEG with 290 μg of linaclotide for bowel preparation before colonoscopy is similar to that of 3 L PEG. It can reduce the incidence of adverse reactions and patients exhibit good tolerance. For patients who are intolerant to a single high-dose administration of PEG, they need divided-dose regimen of 2 L PEG in combination with linaclotide.
