The study assesses highly cited research works in the area Business, Management and Accounting retrieving data from Scopus database for the period 1998-2017. It found total 49417 publications which received 769676 citations. The study identifies about one third (32.88%) of papers have remained uncited during the period. Among rest, papers' having one citation (10.60%) is higher. It is inferred from the analysis that older publications get more citations. Indian citation distribution is almost similar with global citation distribution pattern. The study identifies Cranfield University of UK has greater impact. International collaboration brings higher citations and Netherlands has higher citation per paper (27.33) due to its international collaborative research. Besides, language may be a barrier of research communication. Clusters and the new is highly cited paper. Out of top ten highly cited research papers, six papers are single authored and two papers have international collaboration. Maximum authors are from USA. The study examines global "Quantum Cryptography" research on a set of quantitative and qualitative metrics to understand the status of research in the subject at global, national, institutional, and individual level. The analysis is based on publications data in the subject comprising a total of 10801 publications as indexed in the Scopus database covering the period 1992–2020. The study provides a window to most productive countries, research organizations and authors in the subject, to most popular broad subject areas in research, to top modes of research communication, and in addition it describes the characteristics of highly cited papers. The study maps the most productive countries, organizations, authors, and keywords in the context of collaborative research. The quantum cryptography research registered a 24.76% annual average growth, accrued an average of 23.01 citations per paper (CPP) since their publication, and it contributed a 4.03% of its output as highly cited papers, with an average of 305.46 citations per paper since their publication. Scholarly journals accounted for a 59.61% global publications share. The study presents a global research scenario in the domain of quantum sensing in quantitative and qualitative terms. The study is based on an analysis of 588 global publications in the field, sourced from the Scopus database for the period 1991-2020. The study identified key countries, organizations and authors, network collaborative linkages at national, institutional, and author level. In addition, it identified broad subject areas intersecting quantum sensing research, key journals for research communications, and broad characteristics of highly-cited papers. The study finds that the USA and Germany lead the world ranking in quantum sensing research with a combined share of 50% to the global output. The USA, Germany, and Italy are the home countries to 13 of the top 15 most productive organizations, and also the home countries to 14 of the top 15 most productive authors in the subject. The top journals publishing most research publications are Physical Review A, Physical Review Letters and New Journal of Physics. This paper analyzes 230 research publications of the Panjab University in mathematics during ten years (2005-14), as covered in Scopus International database. The study quantifies publication data in various aspects of performance, such as the publication growth, research impact and quality, national and international collaboration, contribution and impact of authors, major areas of research, preferred channels of research communications and characteristics of higher cited papers. The findings reveal that Panjab University total publications in mathematics has increased at an annual average growth rate of 17.15% and registered an average citation impact per paper of 2.92 and impact factor per paper of 0.89 during 2005-14. Of its total publications (230), 43.91% publications of Panjab University did not get any citations as against 56.09% getting 1 or more citations. 35.96% and 13.91% of the Panjab University publications in mathematics were involved in national and international collaboration during 2005-14. Among its performance in top 15 Indian universities, Panjab University registered 6th rank in share of national collaborative papers, 10th rank in publication output and 12th rank in average citation per paper, h-index, share of international collaborative papers and share of high cited papers during 2005-14. The major areas of research by Panjab University were algebra (with 28.7% publication share), followed by numerical analysis (20.9%), statistics & probability (19.1%), application of mathematics in different subjects (14.3%), number theory (7.39%), operations research (1.74%) and others (7.83%) during 2005-14. The top 20 authors of Panjab University in mathematics together contributed 95.65% and 96.72% share to the total publications and citations during 2005-14. Of the 87 journals contributing to Panjab University mathematics research output, the top 25 journals together accounted for 61.74% share of the Panjab University output in mathematics during 2005-14.The top 15 comparatively higher cited papers received (11 and 29 citations) and together got 275 citations, with average citation per paper of 18.33. Purpose: Academic contention occurs when research evidence is amenable to more than one interpretation. China has a long tradition of Shang Que (商榷), in which authors argue for their preferred interpretation. The modern form of this tradition is the Shang Que article, which often takes the form of research papers in Chinese-language journals and which tends to be question-oriented. Shang Que articles usually take the views of a particular author or article as the focus of independent and complete criticism by another, independent, academic. This paper explains the role of Shang Que articles in Chinese scholarship and their influence on international academia. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliometric analysis was used to explore the characteristics and evolution of Chinese Shang Que articles using 30,577 articles published between 1979 and 2018. Microsoft Excel and Gephi were used for data analysis and visualization. Findings: Findings suggest a decline in the number of Shang Que articles and an increase in the number of co-authors. Shang Que articles remained particularly prominent in Philosophy and Humanities and Social Sciences, where they focused on local issues such as classical Chinese, the Sinicization of Marxism and Chinese literature. This suggests that the number of Shang Que articles is related to the degree of internationalization of a research field. Originality/value: Shang Que articles, which have been influenced by academic paradigms in English, are a fusion of China's Shang Que tradition and of the modern academic system. This paper analyzes 2542 research publications of the five Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) published during the last Five years (2010-14), as covered in SCOPUS International database. The study analyses characteristics of these publications such as the publication growth, research impact, national and international collaboration share, contribution and impact of authors and organizations, major areas of research, and preferred channels of research communications and characteristics of higher cited papers. The findings reveal that IISERs publications have witnessed an annual average growth rate of 34.92% and registered an average citation impact per paper of 9.90. About 33.39% and 30.80% of the IISERs publications were involved in national and international collaboration during 2010-14. The major areas of research of IISERs were chemistry, physics & astronomy, materials science and biochemistry, genetics & molecular biology with institutional share of 43.94%, 34.19%, 24.86% and 19.71% during 2010-14. About 153 significant authors of five IISERs individually published 10-60 publications and together they contributed 2446 publications, accounting for 96.22% share in the total output of IISERs during 2010-14. The IISERs published 1102 papers (with 43.35% share in total output) during 2010-14 in top 40 most productive journals with high impact factor varying from 0.72 to 11.36. About 50 high cited papers were published by these five IISERs, which have received 50 and above citations, Among these 50 papers, 41 papers received 50 to 100 citations, 7 papers 101-200 citations, 1 paper 401-500 citations and 1 paper 1001-1100 citations. Twitter has become an important promotional tool for scholarly work, but individual academic publications have varied degrees of visibility on the platform. We explain this variation through the concept of Twitter-worthiness: factors making certain academic publications more likely to be visible on Twitter. Using publications from communication studies as our analytical case, we conduct statistical analyses of 32187 articles spanning 82 journals. Findings show that publications from G12 countries, covering social media topics and published open access tend to be mentioned more on Twitter. Similar to prior studies, this study demonstrates that Twitter mentions are associated with peer citations. Nevertheless, Twitter also has the potential to reinforce pre-existing disparities between communication research communities, especially between researchers from developed and less-developed regions. Background: Challenge between parents and their children is a rapidly growing phenomenon in Iran. The communication challenges of adolescence with emphasis on social media in this study is a phenomenon that based on the changes and developments of adolescence, can affect the nature and quality of family relationships, question the parental authority, and cause changes in regulations. The present study explored the communication challenges of parents and adolescents with a focus on the use of the Internet and social media. Methods: This qualitative study was performed using content analysis. The research population consisted of several parents with children (daughters) who were studying in the first secondary school in District 11 of Tehran in the academic year 2019-2020. The participants were 15 parents who were selected using purposive sampling and based on the theoretical saturation criterion. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were then analyzed, codified, and categorized. Finally, after the extraction of the themes, the relevant and common themes were combined in the form of secondary and main categories. Results: Based on the content analysis of the data collected from the interviews, 4 main categories were identified: social media opportunities, social media coping strategies, social media problems from the parents’ point of view, and communication problems with the child. Conclusion: In the modern world, parent-adolescent communication challenges are intermingled with the common challenges of using social media. However, it is impossible to ignore the effective and useful presence of social media in modern life. Acquiring knowledge, training conflict resolution skills, and recognizing the factors related to conflicts between parents and adolescents can help parents and pave the way for reducing parent-adolescent conflicts and improving the quality of parent-adolescent communication concerning social media use. A significant paradigm shift is underway in communication research as open science practices (e.g. preregistration, open materials) are becoming more prevalent. The current work identified how much the field has embraced such practices and evaluated their impact on authors (e.g. citation rates). We collected 10,517 papers across 26 journals from 2010 to 2020, observing that 5.1% of papers used or mentioned open science practices. Communication research has seen the rate of nonsignificant p-values (p >.055) increasing with the adoption of open science over time, but p-values just below p <.05 have not reduced with open science adoption. Open science adoption was unrelated to citation rate at the article level; however, it was inversely related to the journals' h-index. Our results suggest communication organizations and scholars have important work ahead to make open science more mainstream. Purpose: Risk management (RM) is receiving increasing academic and practitioner attention in the public sector. Despite this, there is a lack of systematization of this body of knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the state of art by examining the knowledge gaps and defining the emerging themes of RM in the public sector to guide future research agendas. Design/methodology/approach: The authors conducted a structured literature review (SLR). They analyzed 63 papers, by using Scopus database, published from 1990 to 2018. All papers were categorized and analyzed according to 11 criteria defined by the literature. Findings: Results show that there is an increasing attention to RM with a need for more effort to consolidate research knowledge. Findings also established a lack of theorization, with a limited explanatory capacity of most studies. The paper defined four main areas for future developments to increase the body of knowledge. Namely, RM and managerial systems (i.e. MCSs and performance management), integrating RM systems and the building blocks of RM that the authors identify will also play a role in helping the authors to understand the diffusion of RM within public sector organizations. Originality/value: Despite the increasing attention to RM in the public sector, more research is required. Considering RM in public sector risks to be a "black box", this paper revealed some new insights that could help to analyze better RM in the public sector, to open the black box and to avoid a symbolic use of the RM. Whilst the practitioner field around current student communications has developed in recent years, most published research still focuses either on prospective students, theoretical benefits of student communications or usage of individual channels of communication. This paper contributes to policy and practice by providing the first UK-wide look at current students' communications preferences and behaviours through a meta-analysis of 17 student communications surveys (total students surveyed 20,134). Results show that students expect their universities to utilise a range of channels (including email, social media and student portals) – i.e. an integrated marketing theory approach. Most students feel that they receive the right level of information; however, overall satisfaction with communications has decreased in recent years. SUMMARY: In this paper, we provide theoretical and practical guidance on experimental design choices when incorporating auditor-client communication in audit research. We structure our discussion around Social Presence Theory, noting how elements of social presence impact theoretical predictions and the related experimental design. We then compare non-interactive, highly controlled paper/computer-based studies with studies that involve automated interaction, interaction with an actor, or interaction between participants. We provide a discussion of best practices and pitfalls related to these different experimental design choices, including theoretical and logistical considerations, as well as recent innovations in this area. While our methodological discussion is nested in auditor-client communication research, these methods and logistical considerations are applicable to most accounting experiments designed to address research questions steeped in social psychology (i.e., contexts of human interaction). Purpose: The aim of this paper is to (1) discuss current topics related to organizational communication with reference to legitimacy problems described within the institutional theory framework and to (2) show how the proposed solutions may be important with regard to research on communication processes in organizations and for theorists dealing with foundational assumptions for organization studies. As for reaching the core point of processes under investigation in the paper researchers make use of metaphors leading to rising concerns over the appropriate lens used to understand reality, the discussion in the paper is conducted in the light of more abstract considerations over the paradox of agency and assumptions related to epistemological and ontological stances of institutionalists or critical researchers. Design/methodology/approach: The theoretical scope of the paper covers selected streams of research of institutional theory focused on communication processes, however, some further attention is paid to e.g. possibilities for the critical institutional analysis to emerging. In order to achieve the goals of the paper theoretical analysis is conducted based on selected papers important regarding how institutional theory can develop in the field of communication research. Findings: Considering the phenomena of legitimacy building based on appropriate communication with external and internal evaluators as a challenging task whose effect may depend on actors' agency opens interesting perspectives from which those relations may be analyzed. Nevertheless, it is also emphasized that each time when attempting to answer posed questions by referring to theories that may turn out not to be the best choice for this task, the researches need to maintain aware that those trials can potentially introduce primarily further ambiguity in arguments instead of clarifications. Thus, conclusions allow for recognition of main ontological and epistemological assumptions lying behind propositions that should be considered when building new ones related to communication. Hence, it becomes possible to outline hints as to when it may be especially possible for successful communication to occur. Originality/value: The paper addresses the problems related mainly to the communicative stream of research within the institutional theory framework by focusing on the conditions of the appropriateness of using metaphors as a source of inspiration for the advancement of theoretical reasoning. In order to facilitate communication and collaboration between researchers, Brain–computer interfaces (BCI) require a generally applicable functional model as well as a common vocabulary. The IEEE P2731 working group is in the process of developing such a functional model and a lexicon of BCI terminology. Such a functional model has multiple aspects including the control interface, physiology, transducers, etc. This current paper focuses on the control interface aspects of that model. Having a generally applicable control interface model will facilitate interdisciplinar y research and communication. The control interface is a critical part of the functional model and is described in this current paper. The control interface presented intentionally is intentionally kept general in order to be widely applicable. In this paper, we engage in productive resistance through exploring the application of an arts-based method in expanding the critical research methodology repertoire in the profession of speech-language pathology. There is a specific focus on the value of painting in the data representation process. We explore how a playful, creative analysis deepened the critical interpretative meaning-making process. In particular, we explain how artful representations in the data analysis process can broaden communication in research beyond the written modality to generate alternative knowledges. We use the concepts of productive ambiguity and unknowing as key conceptual tools to reimagine the data analysis process with particular focus on the process of data representation. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of crisis communication research from 1968 to 2022, utilizing bibliometric methods to illuminate its trajectories, thematic shifts, and future possibilities. Additionally, it presents foundational themes such as crisis communication and social media, health communication, crisis and leadership, and reputation and advertising. This analysis offers not only historical insights but also serves as a roadmap for future research endeavors. Furthermore, this study critically evaluates over five decades of scholarship by unveiling the intellectual, social, and conceptual contours of the field while highlighting thematic evolutions. Employing diverse bibliometric indices, this research quantifies authors' and nations' productivity and impact. Through co-word analysis, four thematic clusters emerge, capturing the dynamic nature of crisis communication research. However, the study also reveals limited collaboration among authors, primarily localized, indicating room for enhanced cross-border cooperation and exploration of emerging themes. The study's social network analysis sheds light on key actors and entities within the crisis communication realm, underscoring opportunities to fortify global networks for a robust crisis communication spectrum. Beyond academic curiosity, these insights hold practical implications for policymakers, scholars, and practitioners, offering a blueprint to enhance crisis communication's effectiveness. More and more scholarly attention is paid to dissecting discipline of communication research under the microscope thereby aiming at revealing foci of scientific interest. The lion's share of research has hereby focused either on the supply side of research examining what topics scholars write about or at the popularity side of research shedding light on what scientific publications receive the most citations. Building up on this, we argue that these research strands are inadequate to the task of exhaustively identifying foci of scientific interest. Tailoring for the fragmented topical landscape of communication research, we propose an integrative combination of three metrics: supply, popularity, and prestige of research topics. By means of topic modeling, citation counts and citation networks, our study showcases how our approach is able to reveal the intellectual architecture of our discipline in order to identify relevant paths for further scientific inquiry. For qualitative researchers seeking the perspectives of people with unusual characteristics or circumstances, compliance with expectations about participant anonymity can be difficult, if not impossible. In the age of internet communications and emerging research methodologies, traditional strategies require ongoing re-examination to ensure cohesion between a project's ethical framework and its research practice. This paper reflects on the approach to informed consent used in a study with parent carers whose children had high-level support needs. A two-step process of written consent was developed in response to concerns about the possible re-identification of these parents as a result of their highly individual circumstances. This approach acknowledged the potential for identification, and maximised participants' agency in choosing the level of risk that they were comfortable to accommodate. The paper discusses the researcher's and participants' responses to the adapted consent process and recommends that researchers and ethics review committees remain open to the development of collaborative and innovative approaches that are also culturally and contextually relevant, to enable people to contribute perspectives that might otherwise be silenced by the very ethical frameworks that purport to protect their interests. Among the many Central European scholars and intellectuals driven into exile across the Atlantic in the 1930s was the prominent Vienna psychologist Karl Bühler (1879–1963). Bühler had great difficulty establishing himself in his new home of the United States, despite his attempts to adapt his ideas to the American scene. In this paper, we look at one such attempt at adaptation, the unpublished manuscript of Bühler's "Pocketbook on Practical Semantics," an effort to turn the Sprachtheorie of his Vienna period into a contribution to the applied semiotics and communications research popular in America at the time. This paper conceptualises replication research as being one of the most needed areas of ongoing academic activity. Using George the Galapagos tortoise as a metaphor for the lack of replication research, it is argued that only by replicating research studies over time can solid theory be developed. For the most part, advertising and marketing communication research consists of non-replicated, one-shot, point-in-time experiments which, once accepted and published by a journal, becomes the litany of the academic community and is then deified by the citation process. The paper begins by reviewing the background of replication research in the marketing communication domain and applies it to current thinking and publication trends. Reasons for the lack of replication research are presented and some conclusions are drawn for those seeking to confirm or challenge existing research. In order to improve the practical effect of intelligent prediction system, by analyzing and studying the characteristics of the traffic carried on the network, it can provide an effective way to explore the internal operating mechanism of the network. This paper takes the embedded wireless communication network as the research object to construct an intelligent predictive analysis system and applies the intelligent regression algorithm to the intelligent predictive analysis to construct an intelligent predictive analysis system. Finally, this paper verifies the system model of this paper through experimental research. The research results show that the intelligent predictive analysis system based on the embedded wireless communication network proposed in this paper is very effective and has a positive effect on the construction and development of the embedded wireless communication network. The paper analyses the growth pattern of Obstetrics and Gynaecology literature during 1900-2021. The data downloaded from web of science database, further interpreted, and analyzed for the study purpose. Total number of publications has been identified as 10,193 records. The distribution of publications based on document type of the publications, the year of production, source wise ranking, Language wise, country wise productivity, top ten affiliations wise, Web of Science Research areas contribution is in the maximum level were studied. The study reveals a progressive increase on Obstetrics and Gynecology research publications during 1900-2021. The period 2011-2021 contributed highest number of publications. United States is the top contributor during 1900-2021 study period. University of California is the leading University having 308 articles which is 3.02% of the total publications. The paper reviews two strands of research on communication of uncertainty that usually have been investigated separately: (1) Probabilities attached to specific outcomes, and (2) Range judgments. Probabilities are sometimes expressed by verbal phrases ("rain is likely") and at other times in a numeric format ("70% chance of rain"), whereas range judgments describe the potential amounts expected ("1–4 mm of rain"). Examination of previous research shows that both descriptions convey, in addition to the strength of expectations, pragmatic information about the communicative situation. For instance, so-called verbal probability expressions (VPE), as likely, unlikely, a chance, or not certain give some, albeit vague, probabilistic information, but carry in addition an implicit message about the sources of uncertainty, the outcome's valence and severity, along with information about the speakers' attitudes and their communicative intentions. VPEs are directional by drawing attention either to an outcome's occurrence ("it is possible") or to its non-occurrence ("it is doubtful"). In this sense they may be more informative than numbers. Uncertainties about outcomes in a distribution (continuous quantities) are alternatively expressed as interval estimates. The width of such intervals can function as a cue to credibility and expertise. Incomplete, one-sided intervals, where only one boundary is stated, imply directionality. "More than 100 people" suggests a crowd, while "less than 200" implies a shortfall. As with VPEs, directionally positive intervals are more frequent, and perhaps more neutral than negative ones. This paper presents research into the scholarly communication attitudes and behaviours of Chinese early-career researchers (ECRs). This research comes from year two of a projected three-year-long study of ECRs from seven countries (China, France, Malaysia, Poland, Spain, the UK, and the US), for which semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with study participants. For the findings reported in this paper, fourteen Chinese ECRs from science and social science disciplines at six different universities were interviewed during the period from March to May 2017. The interview record was compared with the previous year's (2016) record to identify changes in interviewees' responses to a battery of questions. In addition, contextual data were obtained from the CVs of the ECRs. Our findings indicate that the scholarly communication attitudes and behaviours of Chinese ECRs have changed from year one to year two. We observed noteworthy changes in Chinese ECRs' attitudes and behaviours regarding open access publishing and peer review. As compared with data from 2016, the ECRs are more positive about open access journals but more negative about the peer-review system. Social media and online communities are now more frequently used as supplementary channels for scholarly communication, and WeChat is becoming very popular for Chinese ECRs. Authorship policies, the academic evaluation system, and the prevalent use of social media are the most important factors bringing about the changes we observed. This paper describes the development and salience of an original and innovative interdisciplinary approach, Sensoria, that combines methods and techniques from social science and performance to address the methodological challenges of researching sensory/multimodal experiences. It sets out the core components and methodological principles that underpin the approach and uses an illustrative example to show how it can facilitate research on hard to access sensorial experiences, to access, understand and analyse people's experiences and perspectives of touch, a highly tacit sensory mode. The paper discusses the methodological contribution and challenges of this approach to sensory research for social science and artistic practice and 'more-than-representational' research more generally. It concludes by making a case for more critical research spaces at the intersection of these disciplines to foster multi-dimensional research dialogues and to advance the exploration and understanding of the relationship between the sensory, social and the digital. This opinion piece discusses how research on language ideologies (or, for that matter, ideologies of communication in general) relates to micro/macro distinctions of both the research field and the discipline of sociolinguistics. Starting off from the thesis that both object and strand of research at stake here do not neatly fit this dichotomous distinction, the paper discusses the Fishmanian origins as well as the diverse and diverging definitions of micro- andmacro-sociolinguistics that ensued from Fishman's proposal, considering the different assumptions that underlie the respective variants of the distinction. The piece discusses why language ideology research locates its object, and itself as a discipline, beyond the micro/macro binarism, and how/why it embraces a more scalar, relative and reflexive approach to social and linguistic juxtaposition, ordering and ranking. To this end, the concept of 'social scales' and its uptake by language ideology research are introduced and discussed. Finally, the paper provides an opinion on what the future of sociolinguistics should be like – independently from the particular strand at stake here – and about the role of this newly launched journal (with its long history as a yearbook) as the author wishes to see it being taken. The reforms in higher education that have been introduced on a global scale in recent years have gone hand in glove with the progressive imposition of scientific journal impact factors, all of which points to the rise of academic capitalism and digital labour in universities that is increasingly subject to the logic of the market. A diachronic analysis of this process allows for talking about, paraphrasing Gabriel García Márquez, the chronicle of a commodification process foretold. More than twenty years ago it was clear what was going to happen, but not how it was going to unfold. Accordingly, this article reconstructs that process, comparing the Spanish case with global trends and highlighting the crucial role that governmental agencies like the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation and specific evaluation tools like the publication of scientific papers in high-impact journals have played in it. In this analysis, Wallerstein's core-periphery relations and the concept of commodity fetishism, as addressed by Walter Benjamin, prove to be especially useful. This paper explores how climate change communication is understood and enacted in Canada's Provincial North (CPN), with a focus on the role that local climate champions play in regions characterized by rurality, remoteness, and a high degree of reliance on natural resource industries. Drawing from 24 in-depth interviews with individuals increasing local attention to climate in Northern British Columbia and Ontario, this research identifies communication challenges and opportunities arising in these contexts. Existing literature inadequately addresses the challenges of advancing climate change initiatives in rural and remote communities. Confirming and extending existing research on place-based communication, CPN climate champions underscored that messages must be place-based, community-informed, reflect local realities, and address the role of industry in regional economies. The design and initial implementation of a project-based directed study course in mathematical research and communication is described. The intention of the course is to expose students to the foundation of mathematical research through inquiry-based learning. Students are asked to approach an exercise in topology as though it is an open problem. Publication bias promotes papers providing “significant” findings, thus incentivizing researchers to produce such findings. Prior studies suggested that researchers’ focus on “p< .05” yields—intentional or unintentional—p-value misreporting, and excessp-values just below .05. To assess whether similar distortions occur in communication science, we extracted 5,834 test statistics from 693 recent communication science ISI papers, and assessed prevalence ofp-values (1) misreported, and (2) just below .05. Results show 8.8% ofp-values were misreported (74.5% too low). 1.3% ofp-values were critically misreported, statingp< .05 while in factp> .05 (88.3%) or vice versa (11.7%). Analyzingp-value frequencies just below .05 using a novel method did not unequivocally demonstrate “p-hacking”—excessp-values could be alternatively explained by (severe) publication bias. Results for 19,830p-values from social psychology were strikingly similar. We conclude that publication bias, publication pressure, and verification bias distort the communication science knowledge base, and suggest solutions to this problem. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This essay discusses how storytelling conventions and entertainment delivery methods have evolved with the advent of new technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality. This paper aims to explore the psychological mechanisms involved in narrative processing for users of augmented and virtual reality spaces, focusing on transportation as an important construct. A history of presence through art performances and Greek poetry is discussed. Connections are established between Greek tragedies and audience scholarship, highlighting Nietzsche's framework for understanding the impact of Greek tragedies on audiences and the concept of the fourth wall. The fourth wall is used to assess the similarities and differences between traditional and emerging forms of media. Finally, future research on transportation with narratives on virtual and augmented reality is proposed. These recommendations include: adapting the transportation measure to fit the affordances of emerging tech better, clarifying the relationship between transportation and flow in the context of narrative exposure within emerging tech, and conceptualizing transportation at a macro level to include transmedia experiences. Revealing one's evaluation towards a shared target of stance will likely set off a chain of reactions among all participants in an interaction. This interactive activity widely recognized as stancetaking has attracted the attention of researchers in a variety of fields of inquiry. This paper intends to enrich this line of research by revealing details of stancetaking as an evolving process. It proposes to do so by recognizing two separate layers relevant for stance progression. The first is the external layer where participants physically exchange utterances in order to negotiate their stances. The second is the internal layer where each participant interacts with his/her own internalized and internalizing knowledge. To demonstrate these points, I will analyze excerpts of English conversations between unacquainted speakers who experienced a common major incident in their daily lives (an earthquake and a false missile alarm incident). I will also use a conversation in Thai to demonstrate how a speaker indexes her changing evaluation toward a third person by alternating different third person pronouns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to optimize the communication research of dynamic carrier sensing control network based on ant colony algorithm, this paper proposes an improved ant colony routing algorithm. Firstly, this paper establishes the experimental model, sets up the relevant experimental parameters, and builds the MATLAB experimental platform. The simulation results show that compared with the basic ant colony algorithm, the improved algorithm performs better in the final jumps. The average residual energy of the sensor node is more. The total energy consumption is less, and the consumption in each round is relatively stable. The residual energy fluctuation range of the sensor node is small, and the energy consumption of each node is relatively balanced. Therefore, the improved ant colony algorithm is important for improving the survival cycle of the WSN. The algorithm comprehensively considers the factors such as convergence speed, node communication distance, node residual energy, and optimal solution and can finally find the path with low node energy consumption and high node residual energy. Purpose: Crisis communication is an essential component of crisis management in hospitality and tourism. Yet few studies have offered a clear impression of the state of knowledge in this area. As one of the early conceptual attempts, this study aims to contribute to the existing knowledge by analyzing, comparing and synthesizing the literature in crisis communication and hospitality and tourism research. This study also proposes a transactional and dynamic crisis communication model that lays the conceptual foundation for future research. Design/methodology/approach: This study was guided by a theory synthesis approach and analyzed the related literature. More specifically, this study conducted a rapid review of the general crisis communication research and a conventional, systematic review of crisis communication research in hospitality and tourism. Based on the review findings, this study further develops a transactive and dynamic crisis communication model in hospitality and tourism, which is fundamental for future studies in this area. Findings: The findings of this study are presented through a literature review of general crisis communication research and crisis communication research in hospitality and tourism and the development of a transactive and dynamic crisis communication model in hospitality and tourism. Research limitations/implications: This study reviews the literature and develops an integrated model for crisis communication in hospitality and tourism. The findings of this study lay the conceptual foundation for crisis communication in hospitality and tourism and reveal future research venues. Practical implications: By offering a state-of-the-art review and developing an integrated conceptual model, the findings of this study can help bridge the gaps between academics and practices as well as serve as references for practitioners to identify and develop effective crisis responses. Originality/value: This paper represents an early effort to review crisis communication research in hospitality and tourism and conceptualize the subject area through an integrated model. Purpose: The scientific research on risk management has grown substantially over the past years. Communication on risk is central to the risk management strategy. As indicated by many researchers, communication is one of the key components of a successful risk management framework but, on the other hand, it is one of main categories of disruption and inefficiency in risk management process. Design/methodology/approach: The research aim is identification of the latest streams of research that concern communication in risk management by knowledge mapping and it provides a visualization reference in this research field. Some series of published papers on communication aspects in risk management in Scopus database from 2000 to 2018 were extracted. Then, based on the co-occurrence frequencies of key terms, mapping is done and clustering keywords are extracted by using VOSviewer software. Findings: The main research conclusions are as follows: (1) that communication studies are developing rapidly in the global academic community, (2) the frontier topics in this study consist of seven representative areas concentrated in main keywords like risk assessment, project management, risk perception, decision making, information management, risk analysis, disasters, and information technology, (3) the latest trends in research on communication aspects in risk management mainly include leadership context, climate change (especially regarding floods), food safety, corporate social responsibility, social media, and construction project. Research limitations/implications: This study investigated only leading trends in this area and identified selected challenges in an exploratory way. Practical implications: (not applicable). This paper responds to the three articles in this edition of Communication Research and Practice, by Gerard Goggin, Lelia Green, Colleen Mills and Claire Burlat, which together formed the Australia New Zealand Communication Association 40th Anniversary panel contribution to the 2020 International Communication Association Annual Conference. The contributors to that panel were invited to explore ways in which we might future-proof the academy-societal interface, and to consider which principles and practices might nurture meaningful and sustained academic-public knowledge exchange. The panellists' brought three very different lenses to reflect on and consider what we know about and how we might contribute to an improved academy-society interface in the communication disciplines. In responding to each of these papers I focus on their key messages and extend the scope of each contribution by, respectively, adding what we know about the New Zealand context, reflecting on the ways that individuals can contribute to how academic thought is communicated in society, and asking if for-profit corporations are likely to communicate knowledge in ways that are genuinely designed to enhance environmental sustainability and reduce the consumption of their products. Each year, lives are needlessly lost to floods due to residents failing to heed evacuation advisories. Risk communication research suggests that flood warnings need to be more vivid, contextualized, and visualizable, in order to engage the message recipient. This paper makes the case for the development of a low-cost augmented reality tool that enables individuals to visualize, at close range and in three-dimension, their homes, schools, and places of work and worship subjected to flooding (modeled upon a series of federally expected flood hazard levels). This paper studies networks that consist of $N$ half-duplex relays assisting the communication between a source and a destination. In ISIT’12 Brahma et al. conjectured that in Gaussian half-duplex diamond networks (i.e., without a direct link between the source and the destination, and with N$ non-interfering relays), an approximately optimal relay scheduling policy (i.e., achieving the cut-set upper bound to within a constant gap uniformly over all channel gains) has at most N+1$ active states (i.e., at most N+1 possible relay listen-transmit configurations have a strictly positive probability). Such relay scheduling policies were referred to as simple. In ITW’13, we conjectured that simple approximately optimal relay scheduling policies exist for any Gaussian half-duplex multi-relay network irrespectively of the topology. This paper formally proves this more general version of the conjecture and shows it holds beyond Gaussian noise networks. In particular, for any class of memoryless half-duplex $N$ -relay networks with independent noises and for which independent inputs are approximately optimal in the cut-set upper bound, an approximately optimal simple relay scheduling policy exists. The key step of the proof is to write the minimum of the submodular cut-set function by means of its Lovász extension and use the greedy algorithm for submodular polyhedra to highlight structural properties of the optimal solution. This, together with the saddle-point property of min–max problems and the existence of optimal basic feasible solutions for linear programs, proves the conjecture. As an example, for $N$ -relay Gaussian networks with independent noises, where each node is equipped with multiple antennas and where each antenna can be configured to listen or transmit irrespectively of the others, the existence of an approximately optimal simple relay scheduling policy with at most $N+1$ active states, irrespectively of the total number of antennas in the system, is proved. This paper proposes a general framework for determining the effect of communication delays on the convergence of certain distributed frequency regulation (DFR) protocols for prosumer-based energy systems, where prosumers are serving as balancing areas. DFR relies on iterative and distributed optimization algorithms to obtain an optimal feedback law for frequency regulation. But, it is, in general, hard to know beforehand how many iterations suffice to ensure stability. This paper develops a framework to determine a lower bound on the number of iterations required for two distributed optimization protocols. This allows prosumers to determine whether they can compute stabilizing control strategies within an acceptable time frame by taking communication delays into account. In the context of the evolution of in-vehicle electronic and electrical architecture as well as the rapid development of quantum computers, post-quantum algorithms, such as NTRUEncrypt, are of great significance for in-vehicle secure communications. In this paper, we propose and evaluate, for the first time, a NTRUEncrypt enhanced session key negotiation for the in-vehicle Ethernet context. Specifically, the time consumption and memory occupation of the NTRUEncrypt Elliptic Curve Diffie–Hellman (ECDH), and Rivest–Shamir–Adleman (RSA) algorithms, which are used for session key negotiation, are measured and compared. The result shows that, besides the NTRUEncrypt's particular attribute of resisting quantum computer attacks, the execution speed of session key negotiation using NTRUEncrypt is 66.06 times faster than ECDH, and 1530.98 times faster than RSA at the 128-bit security level. The memory occupation of the algorithms is at the same order of magnitude. As the transport layer security (TLS) protocol can fulfill most performance requirements of the automotive industry, post-quantum enhanced session key negotiation will probably be widely used for in-vehicle Ethernet communication.
