This paper explores the dynamics analysis of a human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) model with saturated cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) immune response and Beddington–DeAngelis infection rate. There are two time delays in the model to describe the time needed for infection of cell and CTL immune response generation, respectively. We obtain two thresholds and three possible equilibria from the model. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, we study the stabilities of equilibrium and the effect of delays on CTL immune response. The results indicate that when immune delay is present, the steady state of equilibrium is disrupted and leads to a Hopf bifurcation. Finally, we use sensitivity analyses to show the effect of parameters on thresholds and numerical simulations to illustrate the theoretical results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, the dynamical behaviors of a multiple delayed HIV-1 infection model which describes the interactions of humoral, cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) immune responses, and two modes of transmission that are the classical virus-to-cell infection and the direct cell-to-cell transmission are investigated. The model incorporates three delays, including the delays of cell infection, virus production and activation of immune response. We first prove the well-posedness of the model, and calculate the biological existence of equilibria and the reproduction numbers, which contain virus infection, humoral immune response, CTL immune response, CTL immune competition, and humoral immune competition. Further, the threshold conditions for the local and global stability of the equilibria for infection-free, immune-free, antibody response, CTL response, and interior are established by utilizing linearization method and the Lyapunov functionals. The existence of Hopf bifurcation with immune delay as a bifurcation parameter is investigated by using the bifurcation theory. A mathematical model for the quantitative analysis of the interaction between cancer cells and cell-mediated immune system with two discrete-time delays, considering the role of antibodies, is studied in this paper. The model is analyzed both analytically and numerically to understand the dynamics of interaction delay and proliferation enhancement effect delay in the eradication of cancer. Hopf bifurcation occurs when one-time delay crosses the critical value in the absence of the other. It is also observed that as we increase any of the delays, it will increase the cancer burden. The analysis shows that a cancer-free state cannot be obtained solely by the killing rate of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes, but humoral response in combination with cell-mediated immune responses plays an important role to eradicate cancer. In this paper, we incorporate immune systems into an HIV model, which considers both logistic target-cell proliferation and viral cell-to-cell transmission. We study the dynamics of this model including the existence and stability of equilibria. Based on the existence of equilibria, we focus on the backward bifurcation and forward bifurcation. Considering the stability of equilibria, Hopf bifurcation is discussed by identifying the basic reproduction number R 0 as bifurcation parameter. The direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by computing the first Lyapunov exponent. Specially, the effects of immune response on the basic reproduction number R 0 and viral dynamics are addressed by deriving the sensitivity analysis. As a result, we find that the removal rate of infected cells by cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), γ 1 , is the predominant factor of R 0 . However, we conclude from numerical results that it is unfeasible to decrease R 0 by increasing the value of γ 1 constantly. Numerical simulation is also presented to demonstrate the applicability of the theoretical predictions. In this paper, the dynamical behaviors of a viral infection model with cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) immune response, immune response delay and production delay are investigated. The threshold values for virus infection and immune response are established. By means of Lyapunov functionals methods and LaSalle's invariance principle, sufiicient conditions for the global stability of the infection-free and CTL-absent equilibria are established. Global stability of the CTL-present infection equilibrium is also studied when there is no immune delay in the model. Furthermore, to deal with the local stability of the CTL-present infection equilibrium in a general case with two delays being positive, we extend an existing geometric method to treat the associated characteristic equation. When the two delays are positive, we show some conditions for Hopf bifurcation at the CTL-present infection equilibrium by using the immune delay as a bifurcation parameter. In this paper, a mathematical model for HIV-1 infection with antibody, cytotoxic T-lymphocyte immune responses and Beddington-DeAngelis functional response is investigated. The stability of the infection-free and infected steady states is investigated. The basic reproduction number R0 is identified for the proposed system. If R0 < 1, then there is an infection-free steady state, which is locally asymptotically stable. Further, the infected steady state is locally asymptotically stable for R0 > 1 in the absence of immune response delay. We use Nyquist criterion to estimate the length of the delay for which stability continues to hold. Also the existence of the Hopf bifurcation is investigated by using immune response delay as a bifurcation parameter. Numerical simulations are presented to justify the analytical results. In this paper, on the basis of the simplified two-dimensional virus infection dynamics model, we propose two extended models that aim at incorporating the influence of activation-induced apoptosis which directly affects the population of uninfected cells. The theoretical analysis shows that increasing apoptosis plays a positive role in control of virus infection. However, after being included the third population of cytotoxic T lymphocytes immune response in HIV-infected patients, it shows that depending on intensity of the apoptosis of healthy cells, the apoptosis can either promote or comfort the long-term evolution of HIV infection. Further, the discrete-time delay of apoptosis is incorporated into the pervious model. Stability switching occurs as the time delay in apoptosis increases. In view of the molecular biological mechanism of the cytotoxic T lymphocytes proliferation induced by hepatitis B virus infection in vivo, a novel dynamical model with interval delay is proposed. The interval delay is determined by two delay parameters, namely delay center and delay radius. We derive the basic reproduction number R0 for the viral infection and obtain that the virus-free equilibrium (VFE) is globally asymptotically stable if R0 < 1. When R0 >1, besides VFE, the unique virus-present equilibrium (VPE) exists and the conditions of its asymptotical stability are obtained. Moreover, we study the Hopf bifurcations induced by the two delay parameters. Although there is no mitotic term in the target-cell dynamics, the results indicate that both these delay parameters can lead to periodic fluctuations at VPE, but only the smaller delay radius will destabilize the system, which is different from the classical discrete delay or distributed delay. Numerical simulations indicate that the proposed model can capture the profiles of the clinical data of two untreated chronic hepatitis B patients. The ability of interval delay to destabilize the system is between discrete delay and distributed delay, and the delay center plays the primary role. This paper studies a diffusive viral infection system with delayed immune response in the one-domain system. A system of DDE equations was explored, both analytically and numerically, using the Galerkin method. A condition that helps to find Hopf bifurcation points is determined. Full maps of the Hopf bifurcation points as well regions of stability are constructed and considered in detail. It is shown that the time delay of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) response and the diffusion parameter can significantly impact upon the stability regions. Furthermore, the influences of the other free values have been examined for their effects on stability. It is found that, as diffusion increases, the CTL response delay increases, and also as the CTL response delay is increased, the Hopf points for both generation rate and activate rate are decreased, whereas the Hopf points for the infection and death rates increased. Moreover, an increase diffusion results in an increase in the Hopf points for growth rate and activation rate, while the Hopf bifurcations are decreased for the death rate of infected cells. This paper deals with a four dimensional mathematical model for Human T-cell leukemia virus type-I (HTLV-I) infection that includes delayed CD8+ cytotoxic T-cells (CTLs) immune response. The proposed system has three biologically feasible steady states, namely disease-free steady state, CTL-inactive steady state and an interior steady state. Our theoretical analysis demonstrates that local and global stability analysis are established by the two critical parameters R 0 and R 1 , basic reproduction numbers due to viral infection and due to CTLs immune response, respectively. The disease-free steady state E 0 is globally stable if R 0 ≤ 1 , and the HTLV-I infections are eliminated. The asymptotic-carrier steady state E 1 is globally stable if R 1 ≤ 1 < R 0 , which indicates HTLV-I infection is chronic without persistence of CTLs immune response. The interior steady state E 2 is globally asymptotic stable if R 1 > 1 , which implies that the HTLV-I infection is choric in persistence of CTLs immune response. Due to immune response delay, our proposed model undergoes a destabilization of the interior steady state leading to Hopf bifurcation and periodic oscillations. We estimate the length of time delay that preserve the stability of period-1 limit cycle. We also derived the direction and stability of Hopf bifurcation around the interior steady state by center manifold theory and normal form method. To determine the robustness of the model, we performed normalized forward sensitivity analysis with reference to R 0 and R 1. Our proposed model undergoes Hopf bifurcation with respect to the production rate of uninfected CD4+T cells h , removal rate of virus-specific CTLs d 4 , spontaneous infected CD4+T cell activation d 2 and transmissibility coefficient β. In this paper, we consider the combined effects of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses on the competition dynamics of two Simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) strains model. One of strains concerns a relatively slowly replicating and mildly cytopathic virus in the early infection (SIVMneCL8), the other is faster replicating and more cytopathic virus at later stages of the infection (SIVMne170). It is shown that the global dynamics of the ordinary differential equations can be determined by several threshold parameters, and we prove the global stability of the equilibria by rigorous mathematical analysis. To account for a series of infection mechanism leading to viral production, we incorporate time delays in the infection term. Using the methods of constructing suitable Lyapunov functionals and LaSalle’s invariance principle, we obtain the sufficient conditions for the global attractiveness of infection-free equilibrium with both virus strains going extinct, single-infection equilibrium with one of two virus strains out-competing the other one and the two strains coexisting infection equilibrium. We establish that the intracellular delays can destabilize the single-infection equilibrium leading to Hopf bifurcation and periodic oscillations. We show that introduction of immune responses is responsible for the coexistence of two virus strains and the intracellular delays may alter the two-strain competition results. A mathematical model of HIV infection with the combination of drug therapy including cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) and the antibody immune response is examined. The threshold value represented as the basic reproduction ratio R 0 is derived. This reveals that R 0 < 1 is locally asymptotically stable in the viral free steady state, and the infected steady state condition remains locally asymptotically stable with R 0 > 1 in the absence of a delay in the immune response. Moreover, the existence of Hopf bifurcation with CTL response delay is demonstrated. The estimation of delay length is used to maintain stability.
