Coronary artery disease poses a significant threat to human health. In clinical settings, coronary angiography remains the gold standard for diagnosing coronary heart disease. A crucial aspect of this diagnosis involves detecting arterial narrowings. Categorizing these narrowings can provide insight into whether patients should receive vascular revascularization treatment. The majority of current deep learning methods for analyzing coronary angiography are mostly confined to the theoretical research domain, with limited studies offering direct practical support to clinical practitioners. This paper proposes an integrated deep-learning model for the localization and classification of narrowings in coronary angiography images. The experimentation employed 1606 coronary angiography images obtained from 132 patients, resulting in an accuracy of 88.9 %, a recall rate of 85.4 %, an F1 score of 0.871, and a MAP value of 0.875 for vascular stenosis detection. Furthermore, we developed the "Hemadostenosis" web platform (http://bioinfor.imu.edu.cn/hemadostenosis) using Django, a highly mature HTTP framework. Users are able to submit coronary angiography image data for assessment via a visual interface. Subsequently, the system sends the images to a trained convolutional neural network model to localize and categorize the narrowings. Finally, the visualized outcomes are displayed to users and are downloadable. Objective: Modic changes (MCs) are the most prevalent classification system for describing intravertebral MRI signal intensity changes. However, interpreting these intricate MRI images is a complex and time-consuming process. This study investigates the performance of single shot multibox detector (SSD) and ResNet18 network-based automatic detection and classification of MCs. Additionally, it compares the inter-observer agreement and observer-classifier agreement in MCs diagnosis to validate the feasibility of deep learning network-assisted detection of classified MCs., Method: A retrospective analysis of 140 patients with MCs who underwent MRI diagnosis and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria in Tianjin Hospital from June 2020 to June 2021 was used as the internal dataset. This group consisted of 55 males and 85 females, aged 25 to 89 years, with a mean age of (59.0 ± 13.7) years. An external test dataset of 28 patients, who met the same criteria and were assessed using different MRI equipment at Tianjin Hospital, was also gathered, including 11 males and 17 females, aged 31 to 84 years, with a mean age of 62.7 ± 10.9 years. After Physician 1 (with 15 years of experience) annotated all MRI images, the internal dataset was imported into the deep learning model for training. The model comprises an SSD network for lesion localization and a ResNet18 network for lesion classification. Performance metrics, including accuracy, recall, precision, F1 score, confusion matrix, and inter-observer agreement parameter Kappa value, were used to evaluate the model's performance on the internal and external datasets. Physician 2 (with 1 year of experience) re-labeled the internal and external test datasets to compare the inter-observer agreement and observer-classifier agreement., Results: In the internal dataset, when models were utilized for the detection and classification of MCs, the accuracy, recall, precision and F1 score reached 86.25%, 87.77%, 84.92% and 85.60%, respectively. The Kappa value of the inter-observer agreement was 0.768 (95% CI: 0.656, 0.847),while observer-classifier agreement was 0.717 (95% CI: 0.589, 0.809).In the external test dataset, the model's the accuracy, recall, precision and F1 scores for diagnosing MCs reached 75%, 77.08%, 77.80% and 74.97%, respectively. The inter-observer agreement was 0.681 (95% CI: 0.512, 0.677), and observer-classifier agreement was 0.519 (95% CI: 0.290, 0.690)., Conclusion: The model demonstrated strong performance in detecting and classifying MCs, achieving high agreement with physicians in MCs diagnosis. Accurate and efficient methods for identifying and tracking each animal in a group are needed to study complex behaviors and social interactions. Traditional tracking methods (e.g., marking each animal with dye or surgically implanting microchips) can be invasive and may have an impact on the social behavior being measured. To overcome these shortcomings, video-based methods for tracking unmarked animals, such as fruit flies and zebrafish, have been developed. However, tracking individual mice in a group remains a challenging problem because of their flexible body and complicated interaction patterns. In this study, we report the development of a multi-object tracker for mice that uses the Faster region-based convolutional neural network (R-CNN) deep learning algorithm with geometric transformations in combination with multi-camera/multi-image fusion technology. The system successfully tracked every individual in groups of unmarked mice and was applied to investigate chasing behavior. A successful drug needs to exhibit both effective pharmacodynamics (PD) and safe pharmacokinetics (PK). However, the coordinated optimization of PD and PK properties in molecule generation tasks remains a great challenge for most existing methods, especially when they focus on the pursuit of affinity and selectivity for the lead compound. Thus, molecular optimization for PK properties is a critical step in the drug discovery pipeline, in which absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity (ADMET) property predictive models play an increasingly important role by providing an effective method to assess multiple PK properties of compounds. Here, we proposed a Graph Bert-based ADMET prediction model that achieves state-of-the-art performance on the public dataset Therapeutics Data Commons (TDC) by combining molecular graph features and descriptor features, with 11 tasks ranked first and 20 tasks ranked in the top 3. Based on this prediction model, we trained a Transformer model with multiple properties as constraints for learning the structural transformations involved in MMP and the accompanying property changes. The experimental results show that the trained Constraints-Transformer can implement targeted modifications to the starting molecule, while preserving the core scaffold. Moreover, molecular docking and binding mode analysis demonstrate that the optimized molecules still retain the activity and selectivity for biological targets. Therefore, the proposed method accounts for biological activity and ADMET properties simultaneously. Finally, a webserver containing ADMET property prediction and molecular optimization functions is provided, enabling chemists to improve the properties of starting molecules individually.

Transcription factors directly bind to DNA and regulate the expression of the gene, causing epigenetic modification of the DNA. They often mediate epigenetic parameters of transcriptional and posttranscriptional mechanisms, and their expression activities can be used to characterize genomic aberrations in cancer cell. In this study, the activity profile of transcription factors inferred by VIPER algorithm. The autoencoder model was applied for compressing the transcription factor activity profile for obtaining more useful transformed features for stratifying patients into two different breast cancer subtypes. The deep learning-based subtypes exhibited superior prognostic value and yielded better risk-stratification than the transcription factor activity-based method. Importantly, according to transformed features, a deep neural network was constructed to predict the subtypes, and achieved the accuracy of 94.98% and area under the ROC curve of 0.9663, respectively. The proposed subtypes were found to be significantly associated with immune infiltration, tumor immunogenicity and so on. Furthermore, the ceRNA network was constructed for the breast cancer subtypes. Besides, 11 master regulators were found to be associated with patients in cluster 1. Given the robustness performance of our deep learning model over multiple breast cancer cohorts, we expected this model may be useful in the area of prognosis prediction and lead some possibility for personalized medicine in breast cancer patients., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier B.V. This study was aimed to explore the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) image features based on the fuzzy local information C-means clustering (FLICM) image segmentation method to analyze the risk factors of restroke in patients with lacunar infarction. In this study, based on the FLICM algorithm, the Canny edge detection algorithm and the Fourier shape descriptor were introduced to optimize the algorithm. The difference of Jaccard coefficient, Dice coefficient, peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity index measure (SSIM), running time, and segmentation accuracy of the optimized FLICM algorithm and other algorithms when the brain tissue MRI images were segmented was studied. 36 patients with lacunar infarction were selected as the research objects, and they were divided into a control group (no restroke, 20 cases) and a stroke group (restroke, 16 cases) according to whether the patients had restroke. The differences in MRI imaging characteristics of the two groups of patients were compared, and the risk factors for restroke in lacunar infarction were analyzed by logistic multivariate regression. The results showed that the Jaccard coefficient, Dice coefficient, PSNR value, and SSIM value of the optimized FLICM algorithm for segmenting brain tissue were all higher than those of other algorithms. The shortest running time was 26 s, and the highest accuracy rate was 97.86%. The proportion of patients with a history of hypertension, the proportion of patients with paraventricular white matter lesion (WML) score greater than 2 in the stroke group, the proportion of patients with a deep WML score of 2, and the average age of patients in the stroke group were much higher than those in the control group ( P < 0.05). Logistic multivariate regression showed that age and history of hypertension were risk factors for restroke after lacunar infarction ( P < 0.05). It showed that the optimized FLICM algorithm can effectively segment brain MRI images, and the risk factors for restroke in patients with lacunar infarction were age and hypertension history. Common lung diseases are first diagnosed using chest X-rays. Here, we show that a fully automated deep-learning pipeline for the standardization of chest X-ray images, for the visualization of lesions and for disease diagnosis can identify viral pneumonia caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and assess its severity, and can also discriminate between viral pneumonia caused by COVID-19 and other types of pneumonia. The deep-learning system was developed using a heterogeneous multicentre dataset of 145,202 images, and tested retrospectively and prospectively with thousands of additional images across four patient cohorts and multiple countries. The system generalized across settings, discriminating between viral pneumonia, other types of pneumonia and the absence of disease with areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) of 0.94-0.98; between severe and non-severe COVID-19 with an AUC of 0.87; and between COVID-19 pneumonia and other viral or non-viral pneumonia with AUCs of 0.87-0.97. In an independent set of 440 chest X-rays, the system performed comparably to senior radiologists and improved the performance of junior radiologists. Automated deep-learning systems for the assessment of pneumonia could facilitate early intervention and provide support for clinical decision-making.

Accurate predictions of remaining useful life (RUL) of important components play a crucial role in system reliability, which is the basis of prognostics and health management (PHM). This paper proposed an integrated deep learning approach for RUL prediction of a turbofan engine by integrating an autoencoder (AE) with a deep convolutional generative adversarial network (DCGAN). In the pretraining stage, the reconstructed data of the AE not only participate in its error reconstruction but also take part in the DCGAN parameter training as the generated data of the DCGAN. Through double-error reconstructions, the capability of feature extraction is enhanced, and high-level abstract information is obtained. In the fine-tuning stage, a long short-term memory (LSTM) network is used to extract the sequential information from the features to predict the RUL. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified on the NASA commercial modular aero-propulsion system simulation (C-MAPSS) dataset. The superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated via excellent prediction performance and comparisons with other existing state-of-the-art prognostics. Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are important for almost all cellular processes, including metabolic cycles, DNA transcription and replication, and signaling cascades. The experimental methods for identifying PPIs are always time-consuming and expensive. Therefore, it is important to develop computational approaches for predicting PPIs. In this paper, an improved model is proposed to use a machine learning method in the study of protein-protein interactions. With the consideration of the factors affecting the prediction of the PPIs, a method of feature extraction and fusion is proposed to improve the variety of the features to be considered in the prediction. Besides, with the consideration of the effect affected by the different input order of the two proteins, we propose a "Y-type" Bi-RNN model and train the network by using a method which both needs backward and forward training. In order to insure the training time caused on the extra training either a backward one or a forward one, this paper proposes a weight-sharing policy to minimize the parameters in the training. Background and purposeA novel radiotracer, 18F-fluciclovine (anti-3-18F-FACBC), has been demonstrated to be associated with significantly improved survival when it is used in PET/CT imaging to guide postprostatectomy salvage radiotherapy for prostate cancer. We aimed to investigate the feasibility of using a deep learning method to automatically detect and segment lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images.Materials and methodsWe retrospectively identified 84 patients who are enrolled in Arm B of the Emory Molecular Prostate Imaging for Radiotherapy Enhancement (EMPIRE-1) trial. All 84 patients had prostate adenocarcinoma and underwent prostatectomy and 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT imaging with lesions identified and delineated by physicians. Three different neural networks with increasing levels of complexity (U-net, Cascaded U-net, and a cascaded detection segmentation network) were trained and tested on the 84 patients with a fivefold cross-validation strategy and a hold-out test, using manual contours as the ground truth. We also investigated using both PET and CT or using PET only as input to the neural network. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), 95th percentile Hausdorff distance (HD95), center-of-mass distance (CMD), and volume difference (VD) were used to quantify the quality of segmentation results against ground truth contours provided by physicians.ResultsAll three deep learning methods were able to detect 144/155 lesions and 153/155 lesions successfully when PET+CT and PET only, respectively, served as input. Quantitative results demonstrated that the neural network with the best performance was able to segment lesions with an average DSC of 0.68 ± 0.15 and HD95 of 4 ± 2 mm. The center of mass of the segmented contours deviated from physician contours by approximately 2 mm on average, and the volume difference was less than 1 cc. The novel network proposed by us achieves the best performance compared to current networks. The addition of CT as input to the neural network contributed to more cases of failure (DSC = 0), and among those cases of DSC > 0, it was shown to produce no statistically significant difference with the use of only PET as input for our proposed method.ConclusionQuantitative results demonstrated the feasibility of the deep learning methods in automatically segmenting lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images. This indicates the great potential of 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT combined with deep learning for providing a second check in identifying lesions as well as saving time and effort for physicians in contouring.

BackgroundThe number of patients undergoing proton therapy has increased in recent years. Current treatment planning systems (TPS) calculate dose maps using three-dimensional (3D) maps of relative stopping power (RSP) and mass density. The patient-specific maps of RSP and mass density were obtained by translating the CT number (HU) acquired using single-energy computed tomography (SECT) with appropriate conversions and coefficients. The proton dose calculation uncertainty of this approach is 2.5%-3.5% plus 1 mm margin. SECT is the major clinical modality for proton therapy treatment planning. It would be intriguing to enhance proton dose calculation accuracy using a deep learning (DL) approach centered on SECT.ObjectivesThe purpose of this work is to develop a deep learning method to generate mass density and relative stopping power (RSP) maps based on clinical single-energy CT (SECT) data for proton dose calculation in proton therapy treatment.MethodsArtificial neural networks (ANN), fully convolutional neural networks (FCNN), and residual neural networks (ResNet) were used to learn the correlation between voxel-specific mass density, RSP, and SECT CT number (HU). A stoichiometric calibration method based on SECT data and an empirical model based on dual-energy CT (DECT) images were chosen as reference models to evaluate the performance of deep learning neural networks. SECT images of a CIRS 062M electron density phantom were used as the training dataset for deep learning models. CIRS anthropomorphic M701 and M702 phantoms were used to test the performance of deep learning models.ResultsFor M701, the mean absolute percentage errors (MAPE) of the mass density map by FCNN are 0.39%, 0.92%, 0.68%, 0.92%, and 1.57% on the brain, spinal cord, soft tissue, bone, and lung, respectively, whereas with the SECT stoichiometric method, they are 0.99%, 2.34%, 1.87%, 2.90%, and 12.96%. For RSP maps, the MAPE of FCNN on M701 are 0.85%, 2.32%, 0.75%, 1.22%, and 1.25%, whereas with the SECT reference model, they are 0.95%, 2.61%, 2.08%, 7.74%, and 8.62%. ConclusionThe results show that deep learning neural networks have the potential to generate accurate voxel-specific material property information, which can be used to improve the accuracy of proton dose calculation.Advances in knowledgeDeep learning-based frameworks are proposed to estimate material mass density and RSP from SECT with improved accuracy compared with conventional methods.

This study introduces RTEEMF (Real-Time Evaluation Electromagnetic Field)-PhoneAnts, a novel Deep Learning (DL) framework for the efficient evaluation of mobile phone antenna performance, addressing the time-consuming nature of traditional full-wave numerical simulations. The DL model, built on convolutional neural networks, uses the Near-field Electromagnetic Field (NEMF) distribution of a mobile phone antenna in free space to predict the Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP), Total Radiated Power (TRP), and Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) across various configurations. By converting antenna features and internal mobile phone components into near-field EMF distributions within a Huygens' box, the model simplifies its input. A dataset of 7000 mobile phone models was used for training and evaluation. The model's accuracy is validated using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (WSR) for SAR and TRP, and the Feature Selection Validation Method (FSV) for EIRP. The proposed model achieves remarkable computational efficiency, approximately 2000-fold faster than full-wave simulations, and demonstrates generalization capabilities for different antenna types, various frequencies, and antenna positions. This makes it a valuable tool for practical research and development (R&D), offering a promising alternative to traditional electromagnetic field simulations. Airborne aircrafts are dependent on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which is susceptible to interference due to the satellite base-station and cooperative communication. Synthetic aperture radar altimeter (SARAL) provides the ability to measure the topographic terrain for matching with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to achieve positioning without relying on GNSS. However, due to the near-vertical coupling in the delay-Doppler map (DDM), the similarity of DDMs of adjacent apertures is high, and the probability of successful matching is low. To this end, a novel neural network of terrain matching and aircraft positioning is proposed based on the airborne SARAL imagery. The model-driven terrain matching and aircraft positioning network (TMP-Net) is capable of realizing aircraft positioning by utilizing the real-time DDMs to match with the DEM-based DDM references, which are generated by a point-by-point coupling mechanism between the airborne routine and ground terrain DEM. Specifically, the training dataset is established by a numerical simulation method based on a semi-analytical model. Therefore, DEM-based DDM references can be generated by forward deduction when only regional DEM can be obtained. In addition to the model-based DDM generation, feature extraction, and similarity measurement, an aircraft positioning module is added. Three different positioning methods are designed to achieve the aircraft positioning, where three-point weighting exhibits the best performance in terms of positioning accuracy. Due to the fact that both the weighted triplet loss and softmax loss are employed in a cooperative manner, the matching accuracy can be improved and the positioning error can be reduced. Finally, both simulated and measured airborne datasets are used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations show the superiority. Accurate forecasting of photovoltaic (PV) power is essential for grid scheduling and energy management. In recent years, deep learning technology has made significant progress in time-series forecasting, offering new solutions for PV power forecasting. This study provides a systematic review of deep learning models for PV power forecasting, concentrating on comparisons of the features, advantages, and limitations of different model architectures. First, we analyze the commonly used datasets for PV power forecasting. Additionally, we provide an overview of mainstream deep learning model architectures, including multilayer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural networks (RNN), convolutional neural networks (CNN), and graph neural networks (GNN), and explain their fundamental principles and technical features. Moreover, we systematically organize the research progress of deep learning models based on different architectures for PV power forecasting. This study indicates that different deep learning model architectures have their own advantages in PV power forecasting. MLP models have strong nonlinear fitting capabilities, RNN models can capture long-term dependencies, CNN models can automatically extract local features, and GNN models have unique advantages for modeling spatiotemporal characteristics. This manuscript provides a comprehensive research survey for PV power forecasting using deep learning models, helping researchers and practitioners to gain a deeper understanding of the current applications, challenges, and opportunities of deep learning technology in this area. Defect inspection of existing buildings is receiving increasing attention for digitalization transfer in the construction industry. The development of drone technology and artificial intelligence has provided powerful tools for defect inspection of buildings. However, integrating defect inspection information detected from UAV images into semantically rich building information modeling (BIM) is still challenging work due to the low defect detection accuracy and the coordinate difference between UAV images and BIM models. In this paper, a deep learning-based method coupled with transfer learning is used to detect defects accurately; and a texture mapping-based defect parameter extraction method is proposed to achieve the mapping from the image U-V coordinate system to the BIM project coordinate system. The defects are projected onto the surface of the BIM model to enrich a surface defect-extended BIM (SDE-BIM). The proposed method was validated in a defect information modeling experiment involving the No. 36 teaching building of Nantong University. Effective data compression technology is essential for addressing data storage and transmission needs, especially given the escalating volume and complexity of data generated by contemporary astronomy. In this study, we propose utilizing deep learning-based lossless compression techniques to improve compression efficiency. We begin with a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the temporal and spatial redundancy in solar observation data. Based on this analysis, we introduce a novel deep learning-based framework called AstroDLLC for the lossless compression of astronomical solar images. AstroDLLC first segments high-resolution images into blocks to ensure that deep learning model training does not rely on high-computation power devices. It then addresses the non-normality of the partitioned data through simple reversible computational methods. Finally, it utilizes Bit-swap to train deep learning models that capture redundant features across multiple image frames, thereby enhancing compression efficiency. Comprehensive evaluations using data from the New Vacuum Solar Telescope reveal that AstroDLLC achieves a maximum compression ratio of 3.00 per image, surpassing Gzip, RICE, and other lossless technologies. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been extensively utilized in the field of biomedical imaging due to its non-invasive nature and its ability to provide high-resolution, in-depth imaging of biological tissues. However, the use of low-coherence light can lead to unintended interference phenomena within the sample, which inevitably introduces speckle noise into the imaging results. This type of noise often obscures key features in the image, thereby reducing the accuracy of medical diagnoses. Existing denoising algorithms, while removing noise, tend to also damage the structural details of the image, affecting the quality of diagnosis. To overcome this challenge, we have proposed a speckle noise (PSN) framework. The core of this framework is an innovative dual-module noise generator that can decompose the noise in OCT images into speckle noise and equipment noise, addressing each type independently. By integrating the physical properties of noise into the design of the noise generator and training it with unpaired data, we are able to synthesize realistic noise images that match clear images. These synthesized paired images are then used to train a denoiser to effectively denoise real OCT images. Our method has demonstrated its superiority in both private and public datasets, particularly in maintaining the integrity of the image structure. This study emphasizes the importance of considering the physical information of noise in denoising tasks, providing a new perspective and solution for enhancing OCT image denoising technology. The enhancement of images captured under low-light conditions plays a vitally important role in the area of image processing and can significantly affect the performance of following operations. In recent years, deep learning techniques have been leveraged in the area of low-light image enhancement tasks, and deep-learning-based low-light image enhancement methods have been the mainstream for low-light image enhancement tasks. However, due to the inability of existing methods to effectively maintain the color distribution of the original input image and to effectively handle feature descriptions at different scales, the final enhanced image exhibits color distortion and local blurring phenomena. So, in this paper, a novel dual color-and-texture-enhancement-based low-light image enhancement method is proposed, which can effectively enhance low-light images. Firstly, a novel color enhancement block is leveraged to help maintain color distribution during the enhancement process, which can further eliminate the color distortion effect; after that, an attention-based multiscale texture enhancement block is proposed to help the network focus on multiscale local regions and extract more reliable texture representations automatically, and a fusion strategy is leveraged to fuse the multiscale feature representations automatically and finally generate the enhanced reflection component. Developing accurate wind speed forecasting methods is indispensable to integrating wind energy into smart grids. However, current state‐of‐the‐art wind speed forecasting methods are almost data‐driven deep learning models, which may incur potential adversarial cyberattacks. To this end, this paper proposes an adversarial false data injection attack tactic to investigate such a cyber threat. First, targeting the deep learning‐based short‐term wind speed forecasting model, an optimization model is constructed to obtain the optimally false data that should be injected into the forecasting model input so as to expand the prediction deviation as much as possible. Then, as the optimization model is non‐differentiable, a particle swarm optimization‐based method is developed to solve the optimization problem, in which the near‐optimal solution is able to be explored, directing the false data that should be injected. Objective: The objective of this research was to create a deep learning network that utilizes multiscale images for the classification of follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and follicular thyroid adenoma (FTA) through preoperative US. Methods: This retrospective study involved the collection of ultrasound images from 279 patients at two tertiary level hospitals. To address the issue of false positives caused by small nodules, we introduced a multi-rescale fusion network (MRF-Net). Four different deep learning models, namely MobileNet V3, ResNet50, DenseNet121 and MRF-Net, were studied based on the feature information extracted from ultrasound images. The performance of each model was evaluated using various metrics, including sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), accuracy, F1 value, receiver operating curve (ROC), area under the curve (AUC), decision curve analysis (DCA), and confusion matrix. Results: Out of the total nodules examined, 193 were identified as FTA and 86 were confirmed as FTC. Among the deep learning models evaluated, MRF-Net exhibited the highest accuracy and area under the curve (AUC) with values of 85.3% and 84.8%, respectively. Additionally, MRF-Net demonstrated superior sensitivity and specificity compared to other models. Notably, MRF-Net achieved an impressive F1 value of 83.08%. The curve of DCA revealed that MRF-Net consistently outperformed the other models, yielding higher net benefits across various decision thresholds. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have become essential in deep learning applications, especially in computer vision, yet their complex internal mechanisms pose significant challenges to interpretability, crucial for ethical applications. Addressing this, our paper explores CNNs by examining their topological changes throughout the learning process, specifically employing persistent homology, a core method within Topological Data Analysis (TDA), to observe the dynamic evolution of their structure. This approach allows us to identify consistent patterns in the topological features of CNN kernels, particularly through shifts in Betti curves, which is a key concept in TDA. Our analysis of these Betti curves, initially focusing on the zeroth and first Betti numbers (respectively referred to as Betti-0 and Betti-1, which denote the number of connected components and loops), reveals insights into the learning dynamics of CNNs and potentially indicates the effectiveness of the learning process. We also discover notable differences in topological structures when CNNs are trained on grayscale versus color datasets, indicating the need for more extensive parameter space adjustments in color image processing. Objective: To establish a model for predicting lymph node metastasis in bladder cancer (BCa) patients. Methods: We retroactively enrolled 239 patients who underwent three-phase CT and resection for BCa in two centers (training set, n = 185; external test set, n = 54). We reviewed the clinical characteristics and CT features to identify significant predictors to construct a clinical model. We extracted the hand-crafted radiomics features and deep learning features of the lesions. We used the Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance algorithm and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic regression algorithm to screen features. We used nine classifiers to establish the radiomics machine learning signatures. To compensate for the uneven distribution of the data, we used the synthetic minority over-sampling technique to retrain each machine-learning classifier. We constructed the combined model using the top-performing radiomics signature and clinical model, and finally presented as a nomogram. We evaluated the combined model’s performance using the area under the receiver operating characteristic, accuracy, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. We used the Kaplan–Meier survival curve to analyze the prognosis of BCa patients. Results: The combined model incorporating radiomics signature and clinical model achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic of 0.834 (95% CI: 0.659–1.000) for the external test set. The calibration curves and decision curve analysis demonstrated exceptional calibration and promising clinical use. The combined model showed good risk stratification performance for progression-free survival. Conclusion: The proposed CT-based combined model is effective and reliable for predicting lymph node status of BCa patients preoperatively. Background: Breast fibroadenoma poses a significant health concern, particularly for young women. Computer-aided diagnosis has emerged as an effective and efficient method for the early and accurate detection of various solid tumors. Automatic segmentation of the breast fibroadenoma is important and potentially reduces unnecessary biopsies, but challenging due to the low image quality and presence of various artifacts in sonography. Methods: Human learning involves modularizing complete information and then integrating it through dense contextual connections in an intuitive and efficient way. Here, a human learning paradigm was introduced to guide the neural network by using two consecutive phases: the feature fragmentation stage and the information aggregation stage. To optimize this paradigm, three fragmentation attention mechanisms and information aggregation mechanisms were adapted according to the characteristics of sonography. The evaluation was conducted using a local dataset comprising 600 breast ultrasound images from 30 patients at Suining Central Hospital in China. Additionally, a public dataset consisting of 246 breast ultrasound images from Dataset_BUSI and DatasetB was used to further validate the robustness of the proposed network. Segmentation performance and inference speed were assessed by Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), Hausdorff distance (HD), and training time and then compared with those of the baseline model (TransUNet) and other state-of-the-art methods. Results: Most models guided by the human learning paradigm demonstrated improved segmentation on the local dataset with the best one (incorporating C3ECA and LogSparse Attention modules) outperforming the baseline model by 0.76% in DSC and 3.14 mm in HD and reducing the training time by 31.25%. Its robustness and efficiency on the public dataset are also confirmed, surpassing TransUNet by 0.42% in DSC and 5.13 mm in HD. Conclusions: Our proposed human learning paradigm has demonstrated the superiority and efficiency of ultrasound breast fibroadenoma segmentation across both public and local datasets. Background and purpose: A novel radiotracer, 18F-fluciclovine (anti-3-18F-FACBC), has been demonstrated to be associated with significantly improved survival when it is used in PET/CT imaging to guide postprostatectomy salvage radiotherapy for prostate cancer. We aimed to investigate the feasibility of using a deep learning method to automatically detect and segment lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images. Materials and methods: We retrospectively identified 84 patients who are enrolled in Arm B of the Emory Molecular Prostate Imaging for Radiotherapy Enhancement (EMPIRE-1) trial. All 84 patients had prostate adenocarcinoma and underwent prostatectomy and 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT imaging with lesions identified and delineated by physicians. Three different neural networks with increasing levels of complexity (U-net, Cascaded U-net, and a cascaded detection segmentation network) were trained and tested on the 84 patients with a fivefold cross-validation strategy and a hold-out test, using manual contours as the ground truth. We also investigated using both PET and CT or using PET only as input to the neural network. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), 95th percentile Hausdorff distance (HD95), center-of-mass distance (CMD), and volume difference (VD) were used to quantify the quality of segmentation results against ground truth contours provided by physicians. Results: All three deep learning methods were able to detect 144/155 lesions and 153/155 lesions successfully when PET+CT and PET only, respectively, served as input. Quantitative results demonstrated that the neural network with the best performance was able to segment lesions with an average DSC of 0.68 ± 0.15 and HD95 of 4 ± 2 mm. The center of mass of the segmented contours deviated from physician contours by approximately 2 mm on average, and the volume difference was less than 1 cc. The novel network proposed by us achieves the best performance compared to current networks. The addition of CT as input to the neural network contributed to more cases of failure (DSC = 0), and among those cases of DSC > 0, it was shown to produce no statistically significant difference with the use of only PET as input for our proposed method. Conclusion: Quantitative results demonstrated the feasibility of the deep learning methods in automatically segmenting lesions on 18F-fluciclovine PET/CT images. Over the past four decades, Arctic sea ice coverage has steadily declined. This loss of sea ice has amplified solar radiation and heat absorption from the ocean, exacerbating both polar ice loss and global warming. It has also accelerated changes in sea ice movement, posing safety risks for ship navigation. In recent years, numerical prediction models have dominated the field of sea ice movement prediction. However, these models often rely on extensive data sources, which can be limited in specific time periods or regions, reducing their applicability. This study introduces a novel approach for predicting Arctic sea ice motion within a 10-day window. We employ a Self-Attention ConvLSTM deep learning network based on single-source data, specifically optical flow derived from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer Earth Observing System 36.5 GHz data, covering the entire Arctic region. Upon verification, our method shows a reduction of 0.80 to 1.18 km in average mean absolute error over a 10-day period when compared to ConvLSTM, demonstrating its improved ability to capture the spatiotemporal correlation of sea ice motion vector fields and provide accurate predictions. Background: Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in women. A noninvasive ultrasound examination can identify mammary-gland-related diseases and is well tolerated by dense breast, making it a preferred method for breast cancer screening and of significant clinical value. However, the diagnosis of breast nodules or masses via ultrasound is performed by a doctor in real time, which is time-consuming and subjective. Junior doctors are prone to missed diagnoses, especially in remote areas or grass-roots hospitals, due to limited medical resources and other factors, which bring great risks to a patient's health. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop fast and accurate ultrasound image analysis algorithms to assist diagnoses. Methods: We propose a breast ultrasound image-based assisted-diagnosis method based on convolutional neural networks, which can effectively improve the diagnostic speed and the early screening rate of breast cancer. Our method consists of two stages: tumor recognition and tumor classification. (1) Attention-based semantic segmentation is used to identify the location and size of the tumor; (2) the identified nodules are cropped to construct a training dataset. Then, a convolutional neural network for the diagnosis of benign and malignant breast nodules is trained on this dataset. We collected 2057 images from 1131 patients as the training and validation dataset, and 100 images of the patients with accurate pathological criteria were used as the test dataset. Results: The experimental results based on this dataset show that the MIoU of tumor location recognition is 0.89 and the average accuracy of benign and malignant diagnoses is 97%. The diagnosis performance of the developed diagnostic system is basically consistent with that of senior doctors and is superior to that of junior doctors. In addition, we can provide the doctor with a preliminary diagnosis so that it can be diagnosed quickly. Conclusion: Our proposed method can effectively improve diagnostic speed and the early screening rate of breast cancer. Objective: For several years, computer technology has been utilized to diagnose lung nodules. When compared to traditional machine learning methods for image processing, deep-learning methods can improve the accuracy of lung nodule diagnosis by avoiding the laborious pre-processing step of the picture (extraction of fake features, etc.). Our goal is to investigate how well deep-learning approaches classify lung nodule malignancy. Method: We evaluated the performance of deep-learning methods on lung nodule malignancy classification via a systematic literature search. We conducted searches for appropriate articles in the PubMed and ISI Web of Science databases and chose those that employed deep learning to classify or predict lung nodule malignancy for our investigation. The figures were plotted, and the data were extracted using SAS version 9.4 and Microsoft Excel 2010, respectively. Results: Sixteen studies that met the criteria were included in this study. The articles classified or predicted pulmonary nodule malignancy using classification and summarization, using convolutional neural network (CNN), autoencoder (AE), and deep belief network (DBN). The AUC of deep-learning models is typically greater than 90% in articles. It demonstrated that deep learning performed well in the diagnosis and forecasting of lung nodules. Conclusion: It is a thorough analysis of the most recent advancements in lung nodule deep-learning technologies. The advancement of image processing techniques, traditional machine learning techniques, deep-learning techniques, and other techniques have all been applied to the technology for pulmonary nodule diagnosis. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is a promising diagnostic adjunct in fracture detection. However, few studies describe the improvement of clinicians' diagnostic accuracy for nasal bone fractures with the aid of AI technology.Objective: This study aims to determine the value of the AI model in improving the diagnostic accuracy for nasal bone fractures compared with manual reading.Methods: A total of 252 consecutive patients who had undergone facial computed tomography (CT) between January 2020 and January 2021 were enrolled in this study. The presence or absence of a nasal bone fracture was determined by two experienced radiologists. An AI algorithm based on the deep-learning algorithm was engineered, trained and validated to detect fractures on CT images. Twenty readers with various experience were invited to read CT images with or without AI. The accuracy, sensitivity and specificity with the aid of the AI model were calculated by the readers.Results: The deep-learning AI model had 84.78% sensitivity, 86.67% specificity, 0.857 area under the curve (AUC) and a 0.714 Youden index in identifying nasal bone fractures. For all readers, regardless of experience, AI-aided reading had higher sensitivity ([94.00 ± 3.17]% vs [83.52 ± 10.16]%, P< 0.001), specificity ([89.75 ± 6.15]% vs [77.55 ± 11.38]%, P< 0.001) and AUC (0.92 ± 0.04 vs 0.81 ± 0.10, P< 0.001) compared with reading without AI. With the aid of AI, the sensitivity, specificity and AUC were significantly improved in readers with 1-5 years or 6-10 years of experience (all P< 0.05, Table 4). For readers with 11-15 years of experience, no evidence suggested that AI could improve sensitivity and AUC (P= 0.124 and 0.152, respectively).Conclusion: The AI model might aid less experienced physicians and radiologists in improving their diagnostic performance for the localisation of nasal bone fractures on CT images. Woven fabric composite structures are applied in a wide range of industrial applications. Composite structures are vulnerable to damage from working in complex conditions and environments, which threatens the safety of the in-service structure. Damage detection based on Lamb waves is one of the most promising structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques for composite materials. In this paper, based on guided Lamb waves, a lightweight deep-learning approach is proposed for identifying damaged regions in woven fabric composite structures. The designed deep neural networks are built using group convolution and depthwise separated convolution, which can reduce the parameters considerably. The input of this model is a multi-channel matrix transformed by a one-dimensional guided wave signal. In addition, channel shuffling is introduced to increase the interaction between features, and a multi-head self-attention module is designed to increase the model's global modeling capabilities. The relevant experimental results show that the proposed SHM approach can achieve a recognition accuracy of 100% after only eight epochs of training, and the proposed LCANet has only 4.10% of the parameters of contrastive SHM methods, which further validates the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. With the development of deep learning techniques, convolutional neural networks (CNN) are increasingly being used in image recognition for marine surveys and underwater object classification. Automatic recognition of targets on side-scan sonar (SSS) images using CNN can improve recognition accuracy and efficiency. However, the vast selection of CNN models makes it challenging to select models for target recognition in SSS images. Therefore, this paper aims to compare different CNN models' prediction accuracy and computational performance comprehensively. First, four traditional CNN models were applied to train and predict the same submarine SSS dataset using both the original model and models with transfer learning methods. Then, we examined and studied the prediction accuracy and computation performance of four CNN models. Results showed that transfer learning enhances the accuracy of all CNN models, with lesser improvements for AlexNet and VGG-16 and greater improvements for GoogleNet and ResNet101. GoogleNet has the highest prediction of accuracy (100% in the train dataset and 94.27% in the test dataset) and good computational difficulty.
