INTRODUCTION In recent years, e-cigarettes as an emerging tobacco product have been favored by college students. Our study aims to explore the factors affecting the use of e-cigarettes among college students and to put forward feasible suggestions for effectively controlling the use of e-cigarettes among college students. METHODS The participating students were from three undergraduate and three specialized colleges in Guangdong Province, surveyed from January to March 2022. The Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) method was used to analyze the influence mechanism and path of five antecedents: self-efficacy, social environment, cognition, sales environment, and negative outcome expectation, on the use of e-cigarettes. The fsQCA used in this study is a novel research methodology that combines the strengths of qualitative and quantitative analyses, through which we can determine which conditions are essential to the outcomes that lead to e-cigarette use among college students, and which combinations of conditions are more important than others. RESULTS The interaction of self-efficacy, social environment, cognition, sales environment, and negative outcome expectation, affected college students' use of e-cigarettes. Through the fsQCA method, it was found that self-efficacy alone constitutes a necessary condition for college students not to use e-cigarettes. There are four possible pathways for college students not to use e-cigarettes, with higher self-efficacy, correct cognition, and a healthy social environment influencing the most important combination of conditions for college students to use e-cigarettes. CONCLUSIONS The use of e-cigarettes by students in Guangdong Province is the result of the synergistic effect of multiple factors. Tobacco control action suggestions focus on improving students' self-efficacy and paying attention to the combination of different factors to achieve more effective tobacco control. Aims: The aims of this project were to establish the outcomes for dental implant research that are important to people with lived experience (PWLE) and to achieve consensus with those developed by dental professionals (DPs) for a core outcome set (COS). This paper reports the process, outcomes and experiences of involving PWLE in developing a COS for dental implant research: the Implant Dentistry Core Outcome Sets and Measures project. Materials and Methods: Overall methods were guided by the Core Outcome Set Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) initiative. Initial outcome identification was achieved from focus groups with PWLE employing calibrated methods across two low‐middle‐income countries (China and Malaysia) and two high‐income countries (Spain and the United Kingdom). Following consolidation of the results, the outcomes were incorporated into a three‐stage Delphi process with PWLE participation. Finally, consensus between PWLE and DPs was achieved using a mixed live and recorded platform. The experiences of PWLE involvement in the process was also evaluated. Results: Thirty‐one PWLE participated in four focus groups. Thirty‐four outcomes were suggested across the focus groups. Evaluation of the focus groups revealed a high level of satisfaction with the engagement process and some new learning. Seventeen PWLE contributed to the first 2 Delphi rounds and 7 to the third round. The final consensus included 17 PWLE (47%) and 19 DPs (53%). Out of the total of 11 final consensus outcomes considered essential by both PWLE and health professionals, 7 (64%) outcomes mapped across to ones that PWLE initially identified, broadening their definition. One outcome (PWLE effort required for treatment and maintenance) was entirely novel. Conclusions: We conclude that engaging PWLE in COS development can be achieved across widely different communities. Background WHO estimates that seasonal influenza epidemics result in three to five million cases of severe illness (hospitalisations) every year. We aimed to improve the understanding of influenza-associated hospitalisation estimates at a national and global level. Methods We performed a systematic literature review of English- and Chinese-language studies published between 1995 and 2020 estimating influenza-associated hospitalisation. We included a total of 127 studies (seven in Chinese) in the meta-analysis and analyzed their data using a logit-logistic regression model to understand the influence of five study factors and produce national and global estimates by age groups. The five study factors assessed were: 1) the method used to calculate the influenza-associated hospitalisation estimates (rateor time series regression-based), 2) the outcome measure (divided into three envelopes: narrow, medium, or wide), 3) whether every case was laboratory-confirmed or not, 4) whether the estimates were national or sub-national, 5) whether the rates were based on a single year or multiple years. Results The overall pooled influenza-associated hospitalisation rate was 40.5 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 24.3-67.4) per 100 000 persons, with rates varying substantially by age: 224.0 (95% CI = 118.8-420.0) in children aged 0-4 years and 96.8 (95% CI = 57.0-164.3) in the elderly aged >65 years. The overall pooled hospitalisation rates varied by calculation method; for all ages, the rates were significantly higher when they were based on rate-based methods or calculated on a single season and significantly lower when cases were laboratory-confirmed. The national hospitalisation rates (all ages) varied considerably, ranging from 11.7 (95% CI = 3.8-36.3) per 100 000 in New Zealand to 122.1 (95% CI = 41.5-358.4) per 100 000 in India (all age estimates). Conclusions Using the pooled global influenza-associated hospitalisation rate, we estimate that seasonal influenza epidemics result in 3.2 million cases of severe illness (hospitalisations) per annum. More extensive analyses are required to assess the influence of other factors on the estimates (e.g. vaccination and dominant virus (sub)types) and efforts to harmonize the methods should be encouraged. Background: To better meet people's growing demand for medical and health services, 21 cities in Guangdong Province were involved in the reform of public hospitals in 2017. This paper evaluates the equity and efficiency of public hospitals' health resource allocation in Guangdong Province and explores ways to change the current situation. Methods: Data were collected from the Guangdong Health Statistical Yearbook 2016–2020 and Guangdong Statistical Yearbook 2017–2021. The Gini coefficient (G), Theil index (T), and health resource density index (HRDI) were used to measure the equity of health resource allocation. An improved three-stage DEA method was applied in efficiency evaluation. The entropy weight method was employed to calculate the weight of different indicators to obtain a comprehensive indicator representing the overall volume of health resources in each city. A two-dimensional matrix was drawn between the HRDI of the comprehensive indicator and efficiency and the per capita government financial subsidies and efficiency to observe the coordination of equity and efficiency across regions. Results: From 2016 to 2020, the G of public hospital, bed, and health technician allocation by population remained below 0.2, while that by geographical area ranged from 0.4 to 0.6; the G of government financial subsidies by population was above 0.4, while that by geographical area was greater than 0.7. The results for T showed that inequality mainly comes from intraregional differences, and the Pearl River Delta contributes most to the overall differences. Although the HRDI of the Pearl River Delta is far greater than that of other regions, obvious differences exist across cities in the region. Only 38.1% of cities were found to be efficient in 2020. The Pearl River Delta was in the first quadrant, and the other three regions were in the third quadrant, accounting for a large proportion. Conclusion: The equity of government financial subsidies allocation was the worst, and there were distinct regional differences in the geographical distribution of health resources. The development of healthcare within the Pearl River Delta was highly unbalanced. The development of healthcare was uneven between the Pearl River Delta, eastern, western, and mountainous regions. Assessments of treatments for 'subjective symptoms' are problematic and potentially contentious. These are symptoms without ascertainable pathophysiology, also referred to as 'medically unexplained.' Treatments of them may be assessed from different perspectives, and an assessment as seen from one perspective may be discrepant with an assessment as seen from another perspective. The observational study described in the paper represents one perspective. Patients in the study were treated with acupuncture for the subjective symptom of low back pain in a Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic in China; acupuncture is a form of TCM, which is indigenous to China. Shortly after treatment began and six months afterward, patients reported 'clinically important improvements' on a variety of standard, cross‐culturally validated outcome measures, including pain intensity, physical functioning, and emotional functioning; this assessment is consistent with numerous assessments of acupuncture in China and other Southeastern Asian countries. On the other hand, clinical trials represent another perspective from which to assess acupuncture. Although assessments based on trials are not uniform, several assessments based on them, including those published in journals such as Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine, conclude that acupuncture is not effective. These trials, however, were mainly situated in the U.S., western European countries, and other WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) countries. This is notable, because the population of China, the indigenous context of acupuncture, is greater than populations of WEIRD countries combined. Patients' expectations of a treatment such as acupuncture and their prior familiarity with it vary among contexts, and patients' experiences of treatment outcomes may vary accordingly. In short, although clinical trials constitute a test of truth in biomedicine and inform authoritative assessments in WEIRD countries, they do not necessarily represent the truth from the perspective of those experiencing outcomes of especially indigenous treatments for subjective symptoms in non‐WEIRD contexts. Due to urbanisation in China, about 7.74 million older people have migrated to urban centres, where their adult children reside and work, to care for their grandchildren. While older migrants may benefit from family reunion and mutual support, empirical studies have identified challenges to adaptation, integration and mental health. Employing a systematic literature review approach, this paper examines recent empirical studies on the mental health of older migrants migrating along with adult children in China, focusing on mental health and wellbeing outcomes and determinants and directions for social work interventions. It identifies directions for considering diversity in conceptualisations of mental health and in theoretical perspectives to enrich understanding of the experiences of Chinese older migrants migrating along with adult children and potential interventions. Introduction: Low readiness for hospital discharge (RHD) can be followed by negative healthcare outcomes. However, no studies have investigated RHD among patients with depression. Aim: This study aimed to examine patient‐reported RHD and its factors among patients with depression. Method: In total, 367 inpatients with depression were recruited and completed the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS) and Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale (QDTS). A binary logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the factors of RHD among patients with depression. Results: The total RHDS score was 7.70 ± 1.52. Approximately 28.9% of the participants had low RHD (RHDS score < 7). The results revealed that RHD was significantly associated with the length of stay, content received and delivery. Discussion: RHD among patients with depression is at a moderate level. More than a quarter of people with depression had low RHD. To improve RHD, enhancing the quality of discharge teaching is imperative for patients with depression. Implications for Practice: Nurses should pay more attention to patients with a hospital stay longer than 20 days. Background Emerging evidence supports the efficacy of mobile phone interventions for smoking cessation. However, behaviour changes of smokers who fail to reach abstinence and the related psychological mechanism are still understudied. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a behaviour change theory-based smoking cessation intervention delivered through personalised text messages from the perspective of smokers who fail to reach abstinence. Methods We conducted a two-arm, double-blind, randomised controlled trial, with the intervention group receiving personalised text messages developed specifically for this study, and the control group receiving non-personalised ones related to smoking cessation. These messages were sent over a period of three months. We looked at three outcomes: changes in smoking frequency, in smoking amount, and in protection motivation theory (PMT) construct scores. Results We obtained smoking cessation results for 722 participants who went through the randomisation process (intervention: 360, control: 362; block randomisation design). Overall, 32.3% of baseline daily smokers in the intervention group and 20.0% in the control group changed to weekly smokers during the follow-up period (P<0.001), while 43.4% of consistent daily smokers in the intervention group and 32.8% in the control group continuously reduced their smoking amount (P<0.001). We observed associations between the intrinsic rewards of smoking and changes from daily to weekly smoking, the perceived severity of smoking and reductions in smoking amount, as well as the self-efficacy of quitting and changes from daily to weekly smoking/reductions in smoking amount. Conclusions We found that a personalised text message-based intervention was more likely to decrease the frequency and amount of smoking in smokers who failed to reach abstinence compared to a non-personalised one. We also explored the possible psychological mechanism of such positive effects. Here we provide evidence for countries to consider the promotion of smoking cessations using behaviour theory-driven personalised text messages, which may be more cost-effective than traditional approaches. Background High particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 ≥m or less (PM2.5) exposure levels posed a great risk to human health, but the protection effects of environmental protection on cardiovascular disease have not been systematically evaluated. This study aims to illustrate the effect of the decreased concentration of PM2.5 on blood pressure level in adolescents after enacting the protection measures of environment from a cohort study. Methods A quasi-experimental study including 2415 children from the Chongqing Children's Health Cohort, aged 7.32±0.60 years with normal blood pressure at baseline, with 53.94% males, were analysed. Both the generalised linear regression model (GLM) and Poisson regression model were used to calculate the impact of the declining exposure level of PM2.5 on blood pressure and the incidence of prehypertension and hypertension. Results The annual mean PM2.5 concentration in 2014 and in 2019 were 65.01±6.46 µgmes per cubic metre (μg/m3), 42.08±2.04 μg/m3 respectively, and the decreased PM2.5 concentration between 2014 and 2019 was 22.92±4.51 μg/m3. The effect of decreased PM2.5 concentration by 1μg/m3 on systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and the difference of blood pressure (BP) indexes between 2014 and 2019 were all significant (P<0.001). The absolute differences of SBP (-3.598 mmHg; 95% confidence interval (CI)=-4.47,-2.72 mmHg), DBP (-2.052 mmHg; 95% CI=-2.80,-1.31 mmHg) and MAP (-2.568 mmHg; 95% CI=-3.27,-1.87 mmHg) in the group with a decreased level of ≥25.56 μg/m3 were more significant than those in a decreased concentration of PM2.5 for <25.56 μg/m3 (P<0.001). And the incidence of prehypertension and hypertension for three occasions blood pressure diagnose was 2.21% (95% CI = 1.37%-3.05%, P=0.001) in children with PM2.5 decreased level -25.56 μg/m3 (50%), which was significant higher than its' counterparts 0.89% (95% CI=0.37%-1.42%, P=0.001). Conclusions Our study found the etiological relationship between the declining PM2.5 concentration and the BP values and the incidence of prehypertension and hypertension in children and adolescents, suggesting continuous environmental protection measures in China have achieved remarkable health benefits. Both physical abuse and poor sleep quality are public health concerns among adolescents, particularly in mainland China, but examining any causal effect of physical abuse on adolescents' sleep quality using a randomized controlled trial is not possible for obvious ethical reasons. Researchers have proposed the use of propensity score matching with doses to minimize overt bias and estimate the effect of multidose treatments or varying degrees of risk exposure in observational studies. In this paper, we demonstrate the propensity score methods with a focus on matching with doses in an examination of the relationship between physical abuse levels (frequency and number of perpetrators) and self‐reported sleep quality among adolescents. Secondary analyses were conducted using data from the China Jintan Child Cohort. The sample comprised 707 adolescents (13.16 ± 0.90 years old) who had complete data on physical abuse, sleep, and covariates. Propensity scores were computed from eight covariates and used to carry out pair matching, matching with the frequency of abusive experience, and matching with the number of perpetrators. The standardized differences of covariates suggested an acceptable balance between groups after matching. The results derived from matching sets consistently indicated that adolescents being physically abused by parent(s) have worse sleep quality. Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a significant health issue among the elderly, with severe cases (SCAP) having high mortality rates. This study assesses the predictive significance of the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) in elderly SCAP patients and its impact on outcomes in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Methods and materials: This retrospective study included 406 SCAP patients aged 65 or older from the Second People's Hospital of Lianyungang (January 2020 to December 2023). Data collected included demographics, medical history, vital signs, and lab results. SHR was calculated from initial blood glucose and estimated average glucose (HbA1c). Statistical analyses, including Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis, evaluated SHR's impact on mortality. Mediation models explored the effects of neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and SHR. Results: The 28-day mortality rate was 21.67%. Deceased patients had higher age, Charlson Comorbidity Index, procalcitonin, NLR, glucose, and SHR levels compared to survivors (P < 0.05). Both SHR and NLR significantly increased mortality risk, particularly in non-diabetic patients. Combining NLR and SHR improved ROC AUC to 0.898, with 89.80% sensitivity and 81.10% specificity. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed higher cumulative survival for SHR < 1.14, regardless of diabetes status (P < 0.05). NLR mediated 13.02% of the SHR-survival relationship, while SHR mediated 14.06% of the NLR-survival relationship. Conclusion: Elevated SHR is a significant mortality risk factor in elderly SCAP patients, independent of diabetes status. Objective: The fragility index (FI), which is the minimum number of changes in status from "event" to "non-event" resulting in a loss of statistical significance, serves as a significant supplementary indicator for clinical physicians in interpreting clinical trial results and aids in understanding the outcomes of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). In this systematic literature survey, we evaluated the FI for RCTs evaluating Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and explored potential associations between study characteristics and the robustness of RCTs. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in four databases in Chinese and four databases in English from their inception to January 1, 2023. RCTs encompassed 1:1 ratio into two parallel arms and reported at least one binary outcome that demonstrated statistical significance were included. FI was calculated by the iterative reduction of a target outcome event in the treatment group and concomitant subtraction of a non-target event from that group, until positive significance (defined as P < 0.05 by Fisher's exact test) is lost. The lower the FI (minimum 1) of a trial outcome, the more fragile the positive result of the outcome was. Linear regression models were adopted to explore influence factors of the value of FI. Results: A total of 30 trials from 2 4118 potentially relevant citations were finally included. The median FI of total trials included was 1.5 (interquartile range [IQR], 1–5), and half of the trials (n = 15) had a FI equal to 1. In 12 trials (40%), the total number of participants lost to follow-up surpassed the respective FI. The study also identified that increased FI was significantly associated with no TCM syndrome differentiation for inclusion criteria of the patients, larger total sample size, low risk of bias, and larger numbers of events. Conclusions: The majority of CHM IBS RCTs with positive results were found to be fragile. Ensuring adequate sample size, scientifically rigorous study design, proper control of confounding factors, and a quality control calibration for consistency of TCM diagnostic results among clinicians should be addressed to increase the robustness of the RCTs. Background: Non-invasive neuroregulation techniques have been demonstrated to improve certain motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the currently employed regulatory techniques primarily concentrate on stimulating single target points, neglecting the functional regulation of networks and circuits. The supplementary motor area (SMA) has a significant value in motor control, and its functionality is often impaired in patients with PD. The matching SMA-primary motor cortex (M1) paired transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment protocol, which benefits patients by modulating the sequential and functional connections between the SMA and M1, was elucidated in this study. Methods: This was a single-center, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. We recruited 78 subjects and allocated them in a 1:1 ratio by stratified randomization into the paired stimulation (n = 39) and conventional stimulation groups (n = 39). Each patient underwent 3 weeks of matching SMA-M1 paired TMS or sham-paired stimulation. The subjects were evaluated before treatment initiation, 3 weeks into the intervention, and 3 months after the cessation of therapy. The primary outcome measure in this study was the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale III, and the secondary outcome measures included non-motor functional assessment, quality of life (Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39), and objective assessments (electromyography and functional near-infrared spectroscopy). Discussion: Clinical protocols aimed at single targets using non-invasive neuroregulation techniques often improve only one function. Emphasizing the circuit and network regulation in PD is important for enhancing the effectiveness of TMS rehabilitation. Pairing the regulation of cortical circuits may be a potential treatment method for PD. As a crucial node in motor control, the SMA has direct fiber connections with basal ganglia circuits and complex fiber connections with M1, which are responsible for motor execution. SMA regulation may indirectly regulate the function of basal ganglia circuits. Therefore, the developed cortical pairing stimulation pattern can reshape the control of information flow from the SMA to M1. The novel neuroregulation model designed for this study is based on the circuit mechanisms of PD and previous research results, with a scientific foundation and the potential to be a means of neuroregulation for PD. Background: Many individuals consider nocturia a significant nuisance, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, there has been a lack of psychometrically sound patient-reported outcome measures to assess the impact of nocturia on patients in Chinese contexts. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Nocturia Quality of Life Module (ICIQ-NQOL) for use among primary care patients in Hong Kong, China. Additionally, it sought to investigate the mechanisms that link nocturia and sleep quality with HRQOL by employing moderated mediation analysis. Methods: The traditional Chinese version of the ICIQ-NQOL was developed through iterative translations, cognitive debriefing interviews, and panel reviews. The psychometric evaluation included assessments of factor structure, convergent validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and responsiveness. Study instruments included the ICIQ-NQOL, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and a modified Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form (IIQ-7). Results: A total of 419 primary care patients were recruited from general outpatient clinics, among whom 228 experiencing an average of two or more nocturia episodes per night over the past four weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the ICIQ-NQOL. Concurrent validity was confirmed by moderate correlations between the IIQ-7 total score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.43 to 0.49, all p < 0.001). The ICIQ-NQOL also had moderate correlations with the IPSS total symptom score (r ranging from 0.40 to 0.48, all p < 0.001). Convergent validity was supported by moderate correlations between the global PSQI score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.42 to 0.52, all p < 0.001). Known-group comparisons showed that the ICIQ-NQOL could differentiate between patients with and without nocturia in terms of sleep/energy domain score (p < 0.001), bother/concern domain score (p < 0.001), and total score (p < 0.001), each demonstrating a moderate Cohen's d effect size. Item-total correlations corrected for overlap exceeded 0.4, and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were greater than 0.7. Test-retest reliability was confirmed with intraclass correlation coefficients exceeding 0.7 among patients reporting no change in their nocturia symptoms at a 2-week follow-up. Regarding responsiveness, the Cohen's d effect sizes for differences in domain and total scores between the baseline and 2-week follow-up assessments were greater than 0.3 among patients showing improvement in nocturia. Our moderated mediation analysis indicated that sleep quality significantly moderated the impact of nocturia on HRQOL, with a notably stronger indirect effect among females compared to males. Conclusions: The ICIQ-NQOL is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the HRQOL in primary care patients suffering from nocturia. Background: Acute closed midsubstance Achilles tendon rupture(ACMATR) is common, with various treatment methods developed over time. We retrospectively compared the two mini transverse-incision repair (2MTIR) with percutaneous repair (PR) to determine which method yields better results. Methods: All cases meeting criteria from 2018 to 2021 in our hospital were included and followed up for 1 to 5 years. A final questionnaire with multiple indexes was conducted via phone call. Comparative analysis of these indexes between the two groups was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics (V.26). Continuous variables that passed tests for normality and equal variance were compared using the Student's t-test. Ranked data were compared using the Mann-Whitney U test. Categorical variables were tested with the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: There was one rerupture in the PR group. The final indexes for "Tightness Feeling", "Heel Rising Strength", and "Foot Numbness" were statistically different (P < 0.05) between the two groups. The "Re-rupture" and "Return to Sports" indexes showed no statistical difference (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The 2MTIR technique provided a technically straightforward, minimally invasive procedure with well-preserved paratenon and direct end-to-end firm fixation in cases of ACMATR. It resulted in very low complications, easy rehabilitation, and full weight-bearing as early as 5–6 weeks postoperatively, yielding better functional outcomes compared to the PR technique in the 1–5 year follow-up. Obtaining maximum antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence is critical for maintaining a high CD4 count and strong immune function in PLWHA. Key factors for achieving optimum adherence include good medication self-efficacy, decreased medication-taking difficulties, and positive patient-healthcare provider (HCP) relationships. Limited studies have analyzed the correlation of these factors and ART adherence in Chinese population. In this paper, structural equation modeling was performed to assess the proposed model of relations between patient-HCP relationships and adherence. Audio Computer-Assisted Self-Interview (ACASI) software was used to collect data on ART adherence and patient variables among 227 PLWHA in Shanghai and Taipei. Participants completed a one-time 60-minute ACASI survey that consisted of standardized measures to assess demographics, recent CD4 counts, self-efficacy, patient-HCP relationship, adherence, and medication-taking difficulties. The data shown the relationship between patient- HCP relationships and adherence was significantly consistent with mediation by medication selfefficacy. However, patient-HCP interaction did not directly influence medication-taking difficulties, and medication-taking difficulties did not significantly affect CD4 counts. Furthermore, patient-HCP interactions did not directly impact CD4 counts; rather, the relation was consistent with mediation (by either better medication self-efficacy or better adherence) or by improved adherence alone. Future interventions should be designed to enhance selfmanagement and provide better patient-HCP communication. This improved communication will enhance medication self-efficacy and decrease medication-taking difficulties. This in turn will improve medication adherence and immune function among PLWHA. Background: Regulatory actions are increasingly used to tackle issues such as excessive alcohol or sugar intake, but such actions to reduce sedentary behaviour remain scarce. World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on sedentary behaviour call for system-wide policies. The Chinese government introduced the world's first nation-wide multi-setting regulation on multiple types of sedentary behaviour in children and adolescents in July 2021. This regulation restricts when (and for how long) online gaming businesses can provide access to pupils; the amount of homework teachers can assign to pupils according to their year groups; and when tutoring businesses can provide lessons to pupils. We evaluated the effect of this regulation on sedentary behaviour safeguarding pupils. Methods: With a natural experiment evaluation design, we used representative surveillance data from 9- to 18-year-old pupils before and after the introduction of the regulation, for longitudinal (n = 7,054, matched individuals, primary analysis) and repeated cross-sectional (n = 99,947, exploratory analysis) analyses. We analysed pre-post differences for self-reported sedentary behaviour outcomes (total sedentary behaviour time, screen viewing time, electronic device use time, homework time, and out-of-campus learning time) using multilevel models, and explored differences by sex, education stage, residency, and baseline weight status. Results: Longitudinal analyses indicated that pupils had reduced their mean total daily sedentary behaviour time by 13.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: -15.9 to -11.7%, approximately 46 min) and were 1.20 times as likely to meet international daily screen time recommendations (95% CI: 1.01 to 1.32) one month after the introduction of the regulation compared to the reference group (before its introduction). They were on average 2.79 times as likely to meet the regulatory requirement on homework time (95% CI: 2.47 to 3.14) than the reference group and reduced their daily total screen-viewing time by 6.4% (95% CI: -9.6 to -3.3%, approximately 10 min). The positive effects were more pronounced among high-risk groups (secondary school and urban pupils who generally spend more time in sedentary behaviour) than in low-risk groups (primary school and rural pupils who generally spend less time in sedentary behaviour). The exploratory analyses showed comparable findings. Conclusions: This regulatory intervention has been effective in reducing total and specific types of sedentary behaviour among Chinese children and adolescents, with the potential to reduce health inequalities. Pressure injuries are a significant concern for patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures due to prolonged immobility and the complexity of care. This study evaluates the efficacy of standardized pressure ulcer management protocols in preventing pressure injuries and enhancing patient care in a neurosurgical context. A comprehensive retrospective analysis was conducted at a single institution from December 2020 to December 2023, comparing 50 patients who received standardized pressure ulcer management (intervention group) with 50 patients who received conventional care (control group). The study assessed the incidence of pressure ulcers, patient comfort levels using the Kolcaba Comfort Scale and sleep quality using the Richards‐Campbell Sleep Questionnaire (RCSQ). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, version 27.0, applying t‐tests and chi‐square tests as appropriate. The intervention group exhibited a significantly lower incidence of pressure ulcers at all measured time points post‐surgery compared to the control group. Patient comfort levels in the intervention group were consistently higher across psychological, environmental, physiological and socio‐cultural domains. Sleep quality metrics, including sleep depth, latency to sleep onset and overall sleep quality, were significantly improved in the intervention group. The implementation of standardized pressure ulcer management protocols in neurosurgical care significantly reduces the incidence of pressure injuries, enhances patient comfort and improves sleep quality. BACKGROUND: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been shown to protect against fine particulate matter <2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5)-induced hazards. However, limited evidence is available for respiratory health, particularly in pregnant women and their offspring. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the association of prenatal exposure to PM2.5 and its chemical components with allergic rhinitis (AR) in children and explore effect modification by maternal erythrocyte PUFAs. METHODS: This prospective birth cohort study involved 657 mother–child pairs from Guangzhou, China. Prenatal exposure to residential PM2.5 mass and its components [black carbon (BC), organic matter (OM), sulfate (SO42- ), nitrate (NO3 - ), and ammonium (NH4 +)] were estimated by an established spatiotemporal model. Maternal erythrocyte PUFAs during pregnancy were measured using gas chromatography. The diagnosis of AR and report of AR symptoms in children were assessed up to 2 years of age. We used Cox regression with the quantile-based g-computation approach to assess the individual and joint effects of PM2.5 components and examine the modification effects of maternal PUFA levels. RESULTS: Approximately 5.33% and 8.07% of children had AR and related symptoms, respectively. The average concentration of prenatal PM2.5 was 35.50 ± 5.31 μg/m³. PM2.5 was positively associated with the risk of developing AR [hazard ratio (HR)= 1.85; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.16, 2.96 per 5 μg/m³] and its symptoms (HR = 1.79; 95% CI: 1.22, 2.62 per 5 μg/m³) after adjustment for confounders. Similar associations were observed between individual PM2.5 components and AR outcomes. Each quintile change in a mixture of components was associated with an adjusted HR of 3.73 (95% CI: 1.80, 7.73) and 2.69 (95% CI: 1.55, 4.67) for AR and AR symptoms, with BC accounting for the largest contribution. Higher levels of n-3 docosapentaenoic acid and lower levels of n-6 linoleic acid showed alleviating effects on AR symptoms risk associated with exposure to PM2.5 and its components. CONCLUSION: Prenatal exposure to PM2.5 and its chemical components, particularly BC, was associated with AR/symptoms in early childhood. Introduction: The increasing number of women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy may result in long-lasting, adverse physical side effects and reduced quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to develop and assess the feasibility and preliminary effects of the Phone-Based Support Program for women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy. The primary outcome was self-care self-efficacy; secondary outcomes were symptom distress and quality of life. Methods: This pilot study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Jiangsu province, China, from February to March 2023. The Phone-Based Support Program was delivered to 20 participants through the smartphone application WeChat, consisting of learning, discussion, ask-the-expert, and personal stories components. Outcome measures were assessed at three time points: preintervention, postintervention, and follow-up. Results: The Phone-Based Support Program was feasible and could improve self-care self-efficacy, decrease symptom distress, and promote quality of life. The program was well-accepted, and participants engaged actively in the online discussion and sought expert advice. Using a 2011 national survey of urban residents, irrespective of their official hukou status, and the 2000–2009 night-time light data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Operational Linescan System (DMSP-OLS), this paper goes beyond the simple dichotomy of migrant versus non-migrant or rural versus urban hukou to disentangle the processes of urbanization and migration and their complex associations with health, and assesses the impact of various levels and speed of urbanization on the physical and mental health of current residents in a city or town. By disaggregating urbanization into three discrete dimensions at sub-provincial levels, we find that while a higher absolute level of urbanization at the county level negatively impacted self-reported physical health, faster and accelerating urbanization had a positive impact which could be attributed to the demand-pull effect underlying the healthy migrant phenomenon. By contrast, all three dimensions of urbanization were associated with greater depressive distress and thus had an adverse effect on residents' mental health. Beyond demonstrating how variation in the process and location of urbanization affects individual health, we also illustrate more broadly the value of modelling locational parameters in analyses of individual outcomes based on national samples. Background and Objective Short chain fatty acids ( SCFAs) play important roles in periodontal diseases. However, the concentrations of SCFAs in gingival crevicular fluid of patients with aggressive periodontitis are not known. The aim of this intervention study was to investigate the influences of non-surgical periodontal therapy on levels of SCFAs in the gingival crevicular fluid of patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis ( G- Ag P), and analyze the concentrations of SCFAs in sites with or without the detected putative periodontal pathogens. Material and Methods Eighty gingival crevicular fluid samples (four per subject) were collected on filter paper strips from patients with G- Ag P ( n = 20; mean age 24.5 years), before and at 2 wk, 2, 4 and 6 mo after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Eighty gingival crevicular fluid samples (four per subject) were collected from periodontally healthy controls ( n = 20; mean age 26.2 years). Concentrations of formic acid, succinic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid and isovaleric acid from the supernatant of gingival crevicular fluid samples were measured by high performance capillary electrophoresis. Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Prevotella intermedia and Fusobacterium nucleatum from the precipitate of the same pretreatment samples of gingival crevicular fluids were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction amplification. Results The clinical parameters of patients with G- Ag P during the 6 mo after non-surgical periodontal treatment were improved remarkably. The formic acid concentration increased significantly after treatment; the level of formic acid was lower in the P. gingivalis-, T. denticola-, P. intermedia- or F. nucleatum-positive sites compared with the negative sites. The concentrations of acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid reduced significantly after treatment and reached the lowest level at 2 wk post-treatment, although showed a tendency to increase after 2 mo post-treatment, and the three SCFA levels were significantly higher in P. gingivalis-, T. denticola-, P. intermedia- or F. nucleatum-positive sites compared with those in the negative sites. Conclusion Non-surgical periodontal treatment resulted in a significant decrease of acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid levels and increase of formic acid level in gingival crevicular fluids in patients with G- Ag P, accompanied by improvement in clinical parameters. A marked lower level of formic acid, as well as higher levels of acetic acid, propionic acid and butyric acid in gingival crevicular fluid of patients with G- Ag P was consistent with periodontal pathogen infection. Depression is common in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), and is associated with an increased risk of adverse health outcomes. There is a paucity of data on this subject from the developing countries. The aim was to examine the prevalence and related factors of depressive symptoms among Chinese inpatients with CHF. A cross-sectional study was conducted. PHQ-9 questionnaire was used to assess depressive symptoms. The overall prevalence of depressive symptoms was 7.5%. Low BMI (OR = 4.837, CI = 1.278–18.301, p = 0.02), disease duration 3–5 years (OR = 5.033, CI = 1.248–20.292, p = 0.023) and 5–10 years (OR = 5.848, CI = 1.440–23.744, p = 0.013) were risk factors for depressive symptoms, while being married (OR = 0.304, CI = 0.123–0.753, p = 0.010) was protective factor. Background: Children aged 6–9 years are vulnerable to dental caries due to age-related limitations and a lack of adequate knowledge regarding oral health and hygiene practices. This study aimed to establish a cohort of children aged between 6 and 9 years and conducted a 12-month follow-up to examine the combined effect of pit and fissure sealant (PFS) application and oral health education on their oral health status. Methods: A cohort study with 12-month follow-up was conducted in Liaoning province, China. A multi-stage stratified cluster sampling approach was employed in the study. The enrolled 6- to 9-year-old children were all from the selected primary schools, who had resided in the designated area for at least 6 months. Children who were unable to cooperate with the examiner or without informed consent from their guardians were excluded. Experienced dental professionals examined the oral health status of primary school children aged 6–9 years. All children and their guardians were mandated to complete a questionnaire (qualitative data) at the beginning of the study. In the experiment group, children underwent PFS application and chairside oral health education. Clinical examinations and questionnaire surveys were repeated at the 12-month follow-up. The chi-square test and binary logistic regression were conducted to investigate the potential risk factors associated with dental caries prevalence (dependent variable). Independent variables were items from the questionnaire (such as living place, parents' education level and children' birth weight). The significant variables identified in the chi-square tests were subsequently included in the binary logistic regression analysis. Results: A total of 4,085 children aged 6–9 years were included in the study, with 1805 participants assigned to the experiment group and 2280 to the control group. At baseline, the caries rates of the experimental and control group were 77.95% and 80.35%, respectively without any statistically significant differences. However, at the 12-month follow-up, the caries rate in the experimental group (83.65%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (86.62%) (P < 0.05). The results from the binary logistic regression analysis indicated that parents with a college degree and children in the experimental group exhibited lower caries rates. Conversely, higher caries rates were associated with the consumption of sweet beverages and foods more than once a day and a lack of knowledge regarding the causes of caries (P < 0.05). Conclusions: In Liaoning, China, children aged 6 to 9 years exhibited a high prevalence of dental caries. Several factors, including the parent's education level, the frequency of consuming sweet beverages and foods, and the children's understanding of the cause of caries, significantly affected the caries prevalence rates. Background: The utilization of hospital delivery and antenatal care (ANC) is essential for improving maternal and newborn outcomes. However, social and cultural barriers in underdeveloped rural areas hindered maternal care utilization. This study aims to design and evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally adapted digital-platform intervention to promote maternal care utilization among women in ethnic minority communities in China. Methods: From January 1st, 2020, to December 31st, 2021, all pregnant women in Mianshan town, Liangshan Autonomous Prefecture, were invited to participate in the intervention. The multifaceted intervention included participatory and cultural-tailored health education on a popular social media platform, transportation subsidies, and capacity building and economic incentives for healthcare providers. The effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated by comparing two groups: mothers who gave live birth before the intervention (January 1st to December 31st, 2019) and mothers whose entire pregnancy period was covered by the intervention. The primary outcomes were the rate of hospital delivery and ANC utilization. Data on pregnant women were retrospectively collected through telephone surveys and the maternal and newborn's health monitoring system. Results: A total of 237 intervention sample and 138 pre-intervention sample were included. The intervention group demonstrated significantly higher rates of hospital delivery (97.5% vs. 87.7%, p < 0.001), timely initiation of ANC (73.0% vs. 62.3%, p = 0.031), and timely completion of five-time ANC visits (37.1% vs.4.3%, p < 0.001) compared to the pre-intervention group. The intervention group was more likely to utilize hospital delivery (OR = 9.26, 95%CI [2.83–30.24], p < 0.001) and ANC, including timely initiation of ANC (OR = 2.18, 95%CI [1.31–3.62], p = 0.003), completion of five ANC visits (OR = 1.72, 95%CI [1.05–2.83], p = 0.032), and timely completion of five ANC visits (OR = 15.12, 95%CI [6.24–36.64], p < 0.001). Conclusions: The culturally adapted digital-platform integrated multifaceted intervention effectively promoted the utilization of hospital delivery, timely initiation of ANC, and completion of ANC visits in the Yi ethnic community in China. This study provides valuable insights for future interventions targeting maternal healthcare services in underdeveloped ethnic minority communities worldwide. Objective: In China, rural residents experience poorer health conditions and a higher disease burden compared to urban residents but have lower healthcare services utilization. Rather than an insurance focus on enhanced healthcare services utilization, we aim to examine that whether an income shock, in the form of China's New Rural Pension Scheme (NRPS), will affect outpatient, inpatient and discretionary over-the-counter drug utilization by over 60-year-old rural NRPS residents. Methods: Providing a monthly pension of around RMB88 (USD12.97), NRPS covered all rural residents over 60 years old. Fuzzy regression discontinuity design (FRDD) was employed to explore the NRPS causal effect on healthcare services utilization, measured by outpatient and inpatient visits and discretionary over-the-counter drug purchases. The nationwide China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) 2018 provided the data. Results: Without significant changes in health status and medication needs, 60-plus-year-old NRPS recipients significantly increased the probability of discretionary OTC drug purchases by 33 percentage points. NRPS had no significant effect on the utilization of outpatient and inpatient utilization. The increase in the probability of discretionary OTC drug purchases from the NRPS income shock was concentrated in healthier and low-income rural residents. Robustness tests confirmed that FRDD was a robust estimation method and our results are robust. Conclusion: NRPS was an exogenous income shock that significantly increased the probability of discretionary over-the-counter drug purchases among over 60-year-old rural residents, but not the utilization of inpatient or outpatient healthcare services. Income remains an important constraint for rural residents to improve their health. We recommend policymakers consider including commonly used over-the-counter drugs in basic health insurance reimbursements for rural residents; provide health advice for rural residents to make discretionary over-the-counter drug purchases; and to mount an information campaign on over-the-counter drug purchasing in order to increase the health awareness of rural residents. Background: The breastfeeding rates of late preterm infants are lower than both term and extremely preterm infants. To explore the interventions of increasing full breast milk feeding rate of hospitalized late preterm infants on the 7th day after birth (D7) and evaluate the effect of these quality improvement (QI) interventions. Methods: The full breast milk feeding (amount of enteral breast milk reached 120ml/kg/d on D7) rate of hospitalized late preterm infants during May 2017 and November 2017 was set as the baseline before intervention, and the specific aim of promoting breast milk feeding was put forward. The Pareto Chart was used to analyze the factors that affect breast milk feeding process, as well as the discussion of multidisciplinary experts. Key drivers were constructed, including informational materials and education about breast milk feeding, consultations and support on optimal breast milk initiation, initiating breast milk expression within one hour after birth, accurate measurement and recording of expressed breast milk, stimulating continuous and effective lactation, proper breast pump selection in and out of hospital and sending and preserving of expressed milk to NICU. Control chart was used to monitor the monthly change of full breast milk feeding rate until the aim was achieved and sustained. Results: The baseline of full breast milk feeding rate of late preterm infants was 10%, and the aim of QI was to increase the rate to 60% within a two-year period. Control chart dynamically showed the full breast milk feeding rate increased to 80% with the implementation of the interventions, achieved and made the aim of QI sustained. Conclusion: QI interventions including breast milk feeding education, early postpartum breast milk pumping, kangaroo care to stimulate breast milk secretion, and convenient way of transporting breast milk to NICU, could significantly improve the full breast milk feeding rate of hospitalized late preterm infants. China has made impressive achievements in improving maternal and child health (MCH) over the past few decades. This paper uses a policy lens to examine reasons for these achievements as well as barriers to further success. We found that strong governmental commitment and leadership, effective coordination, proactive participation of different stakeholders, and the provision of adequate resources were associated with China's success in improving MCH outcomes. Other low- and middle-income countries can learn valuable lessons from China's experience. These lessons include i) prioritizing MCH on the national development agenda, ii) keeping national ownership over health development cooperation, and iii) establishing effective monitoring, evaluation and accountability mechanisms for MCH programs. Background: The gender gap remains a major impediment in the path toward equality, and it is especially wide in low-income countries. Gender differences in health-seeking behaviors may be a factor. Family size and childbirth order are two critical factors affecting family resource allocation. This study examines gender differences in healthcare-seeking behaviors among children with visual impairment in rural China across different family structures (birth order and family size). Methods: We draw on a dataset containing 19,934 observations constructed by combining data from 252 different school-level surveys spanning two provinces. The surveys were all conducted in 2012 using uniform survey instruments and data collection protocols in randomly selected schools across western provinces in rural China. The sample children range in grades from 4 to 5. Our analysis compares rural girls with rural boys regarding vision health outcome and behavior (vision examination and correction). Results: The findings revealed that girls have worse vision than boys. Regarding vision health behaviors, girls have a lower overall vision examination rate than boys. There is no gender difference when the sample student is the only child or the youngest child in the family, but there is still a gender difference when the sample student is the oldest child in the family or the middle child in the birth order. When it comes to vision correction behavior, boys are more likely to own eyeglasses than girls are for groups of students with mild visual impairment, even when the sample student is the only child in the family. However, when the sample student has another brother or sister (the sample student is the youngest, the oldest child in the family, or the middle child in the birth order), the gender difference disappears. Conclusions: Gender differences in vision health outcomes are correlated with gender differences in vision health-seeking behaviors among rural children. Depending on the birth order and family size, gender disparities in visual health practices vary. In the future, consideration should be given to providing medical subsidies to reduce the cost of vision health behaviors and to provide information interventions to change gender inequality in households and promote equality in children's vision health behaviors. Since PKP was first reported in China in 2002, Chinese orthopedic researchers have performed lots of clinical applications and studies on the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture, spinal metastatic tumor, hemangioma, myeloma, vertebral nonunion, and so on. Methods. We reviewed the papers on PKP published by native researchers in English and Chinese via Pubmed, EMBASE, the Scopus database, and a series of Chinese databases including Wanfang Data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and the China Science and Technology Journal Database. The large sample capacity researches, convictive systematic analysis, and overviews were mainly elected as convictive evidence to describe the overall situation of clinical outcomes, complications, and the various technical aspects used to improve conventional surgical management and clinical applications of PKP in China. Results. Until October 2015, 211 articles in English and 2352 studies in Chinese about PKP were reported by 1443 Chinese institutions from 22 provinces around China. More than 50976 patients reported through published articles have received the treatment of PKP. With the technique gradually improved, including puncture, bone cement infusion, vertebral expander instruments, diagnosis, and treatment of special type of vertebral fractures, PKP is performed with the better efficacy and less complication. Conclusion. With the progression of minimally invasive spinal surgery around the world, PKP in China has been performed with a trend towards a rapid, safe, and effective treatment. Objectives: The International Collaboration for a Life Course Approach to Reproductive Health and Chronic Disease Events (InterLACE) project is a global research collaboration that aims to advance understanding of women's reproductive health in relation to chronic disease risk by pooling individual participant data from several cohort and cross-sectional studies. The aim of this paper is to describe the characteristics of contributing studies and to present the distribution of demographic and reproductive factors and chronic disease outcomes in InterLACE.Study Design: InterLACE is an individual-level pooled study of 20 observational studies (12 of which are longitudinal) from ten countries. Variables were harmonized across studies to create a new and systematic synthesis of life-course data.Main Outcome Measures: Harmonized data were derived in three domains: 1) socio-demographic and lifestyle factors, 2) female reproductive characteristics, and 3) chronic disease outcomes (cardiovascular disease (CVD) and diabetes).Results: InterLACE pooled data from 229,054 mid-aged women. Overall, 76% of the women were Caucasian and 22% Japanese; other ethnicities (of 300 or more participants) included Hispanic/Latin American (0.2%), Chinese (0.2%), Middle Eastern (0.3%), African/black (0.5%), and Other (1.0%). The median age at baseline was 47 years (Inter-quartile range (IQR): 41-53), and that at the last follow-up was 56 years (IQR: 48-64). Regarding reproductive characteristics, half of the women (49.8%) had their first menstruation (menarche) at 12-13 years of age. The distribution of menopausal status and the prevalence of chronic disease varied considerably among studies. At baseline, most women (57%) were pre- or peri-menopausal, 20% reported a natural menopause (range 0.8-55.6%) and the remainder had surgery or were taking hormones. By the end of follow-up, the prevalence rates of CVD and diabetes were 7.2% (range 0.9-24.6%) and 5.1% (range 1.3-13.2%), respectively.Conclusions: The scale and heterogeneity of InterLACE data provide an opportunity to strengthen evidence concerning the relationships between reproductive health through life and subsequent risks of chronic disease, including cross-cultural comparisons. Background: Trust between the parties is essential for the efficient functioning of the healthcare market. Physicianpatient relationship represents an asymmetric information situation and trust in physicians is critical for improving health and wellbeing of patients. In China, trust in physicians appears to be quite low creating conflicts between physicians and patients. This study aims to identify some general factors associated with trust in physicians in general using a nationally representative survey. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis using data from 2018 China Family Panel Study (CFPS). Survey responses of individuals aged 16 years or above were extracted from CFPS and the final sample consisted of 29,192 individuals. An ordered probit model was used to identify factors causing heterogeneity in the levels of trust in physicians. Results: Higher educational attainment and having medical insurance coverage are associated with higher likelihood of trusting physicians. Older adults (> = 30 years), males, urban residents, wage-earners, and self-employed persons are less likely to trust physicians. People who are diagnosed as chronic diseases or current smokers indicate lower level of trust in physicians. Higher perceived quality of services improves trust. Conclusion: Socioeconomically disadvantaged population groups and uninsured individuals are less likely to trust physicians. Health care delivery system needs to address the concerns of these specific population groups to reduce tensions between physicians and patients. Increasing health insurance coverage and offering insurance with low out-of-pocket expenses should reduce the perception that physicians are more guided by their income rather than the wellbeing of patients. Background: Knee patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are widely used in research in China, but there is limited evidence on the quality of cross-culturally adapted and original Chinese PROMs. We investigated Chinese language knee PROMs to provide evidence for clinicians on their quality and to guide PROM choices. Method: A systematic literature search of databases: PUBMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, and CNKI, using adequate search strings and a three-step screen process identified relevant studies. An independent standardized assessment of the selected studies based on the Evaluating the Measurement of Patient-Reported Outcomes (EMPRO) tool was performed. Inter-rater reliability was assessed using intraclass coefficients (ICC). Results: Thirty-three articles corresponding to 23 knee PROMs were evaluated with EMPRO global scores (100) ranging from 11.11 to 55.42. The attributes 'reliability,' 'validity,' and 'cultural and language adaptation' were significantly better evaluated compared to the attributes 'responsiveness,' 'interpretability,' and 'burden' (for all comparisons p < 0.0001). Moderate-to-excellent inter-rater agreement was observed with ICC values ranging from 0.538 to 0.934. Conclusion: We identified six PROMs with a minimum acceptable threshold (> 50/100). The osteoarthritis of knee and hip quality of life, the lower extremity function scale, and the Western Ontario Meniscal Evaluation tool ranked highest. Nevertheless, no single PROM had evidence encompassing all EMPRO attributes, necessitating further studies, especially on responsiveness, interpretability, and burden. We identified duplication of effort as shown by repeated translations of the same PROM; this inefficiency could be ameliorated by rapid approval of Chinese language PROMs documented on original PROM developers' platforms. Background: To improve access to outpatient services and provide financial support in outpatient expenses for the insured, China has been establishing its scheme of decreasing the out-of-pocket expenses for outpatient care in recent years. There are 156 million diabetes patients in China which almost accounts for a quarter of diabetes population worldwide. Outpatient services plays an important role in diabetes treatment. The study aims to clarify the effects of decreasing the out-of-pocket expenses for outpatient care on health-seeking behaviors, health outcomes and medical expenses of people with diabetes. Methods: This study constructed a two-way fixed effect model, utilized 5,996 diabetes patients' medical visits records from 2019 to 2021, to ascertain the influence of decreasing the out-of-pocket expenses for outpatient care on diabetes patients. The dependent variables were diabetes patients' health-seeking behaviors, health outcomes, medical expenses and expenditure of the basic medical insurance funds for them; the core explanatory variable was the out-of-pocket expenses for outpatient care expressed by the annual outpatient reimbursement ratio. Results: With each increase of 1% in the annual outpatient reimbursement ratio: (1) for health-seeking behaviors, a diabetes patient's annual number of outpatient visits and annual number of medical visits increased by 0.021 and 0.014, while the annual number of hospitalizations decreased by 0.006; (2) for health outcomes, a diabetes patient's annual length of hospital stays and average length of a hospital stay decreased by 1.2% and 1.1% respectively, and the number of diabetes complications and Diabetes Complications Severity Index (DCSI) score both decreased by 0.001; (3) for medical expenses, a diabetes patient's annual outpatient expenses, annual inpatient expenses, annual medical expenses and annual out-of-pocket expenses decreased by 2.2%, 4.6%, 2.6% and 4.0%; (4) for expenditure of the basic medical insurance funds for a diabetes patient, the annual expenditure on outpatient services increased by 1.1%, and on inpatient services decreased by 4.4%, but on healthcare services didn't change. Conclusion: Decreasing the out-of-pocket expenses for outpatient care appropriately among people with diabetes could make patients have a more rational health-seeking behaviors, a better health status and a more reasonable medical expenses while the expenditure of the basic medical insurance funds is stable totally. Aim: To study the feasibility and effectiveness of a m‐Health app in improving the management of rheumatoid arthritis. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Sixty rheumatoid arthritis participants will be recruited for a 6‐month feasibility study. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be randomly allocated to receive standard care or standard care plus the m‐Health intervention. The primary outcome is the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial. In addition, we will investigate patient satisfaction in using the "Rheumatism Center" app in the intervention group. The secondary outcomes include the scores for the simplified disease activity index, clinical disease activity index, disease activity score 28, health assessment questionnaire and 6‐item self‐efficacy scale for chronic diseases. The assessments will be performed at baseline and at 4 weeks, 3 months and 6 months after the study is initiated. At the end of the study, we will also collect user views of the app through qualitative interviews. Results: This study is ongoing. The findings of this study will determine the feasibility and effectiveness of m‐Health intervention in the management of rheumatoid arthritis, hoping to enhance the awareness of disease management and quality of life for rheumatoid arthritis patients. Background. Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is an ultrarare vascular sarcoma. At present, the epidemiological and clinical characteristics and prognostic factors are still unclear. Our study attempted to describe clinical features, investigate the prognostic indicators, and establish the nomogram prediction model based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database for EHE patients. Methods. The patients diagnosed with EHE from 1986 to 2018 were collected from the SEER database and were randomly divided into a training group and a validation group at a ratio of 7 : 3. The Cox proportional hazard models were used to determine the independent factors affecting prognosis and establish a nomogram prognostic model to predict the survival rates for patients with EHE. The accuracy and discriminative ability of the model were measured using the concordance index, receiver operating characteristic curves, and calibration curves. The clinical applicability and application value of the model were evaluated by decision curve analysis. Results. The overall age-adjusted incidence of EHE was 0.31 patients per 1,000,000 individuals, with a statistically significant difference per year. Overall survival at 1, 5, and 10 years for all patients was 76.5%, 57.4%, and 48.2%, respectively. Multivariate Cox regression analysis identified age, tumour stage, degree of tissue differentiation, surgical treatment, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy as independent factors affecting prognosis (P < 0.05). The C-index values for our nomogram model of training group and validation group were 0.752 and 0.753, respectively. The calibration curve was in good agreement with the actual observation results, suggesting that the prediction model has good accuracy. The decision curve analysis indicated a relatively large net benefit. Conclusions. Objectives. The integration of patient-reported health status has been increasingly emphasised for delivering high-quality care to advanced cancer patients. This research is designed to track health status changes over time in Chinese advanced cancer patients to explore the risk factors affecting their health status. Methods. Advanced cancer patients were recruited from Peking University Cancer Hospital. An electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) system with validated measurements was used to collect the data. ANOVA, the chi-square test, the nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis H test, and generalized estimating equation (GEE) analysis were used for the data analysis. Results. One hundred and three patients completed a baseline survey (T = 0) and two follow-up surveys (T1 = 14 days, T2 = 28 days). Chi-square test results indicate a significant decrease in the percentage of patients reporting moderate or severe difficulty experienced by patients in terms of mobility, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. However, there is a significant increase in the percentage of patients reporting moderate or severe difficulty in self-care and usual activities. Scores on the visual analogue scale in the EQ-5D-5L instrument (EQ-VAS) are associated with patients' income, and the degree of moderate or severe anxiety/depression is found to be associated with employment status. The GEE results show that pain, loss of appetite, poor walking status effected by symptoms, depression, and anxiety has worsened the health status. Conclusions. The health status of Chinese advanced cancer patients under ePRO follow-up in China significantly improves in the physical and psychological dimensions, accompanied by a decrease in usual activities and self-care. Routine screening and rational supportive care are recommended in oncology for cancer care. Based on the rational application of ePRO, longitudinal studies exploring the potential mechanisms of health status changing would provide more beneficial guidance for improving the quality of life in patients with advanced cancer. Social participation comprises comprehensive interactions between individual health and relevant environmental characteristics, which play an increasingly important role in promoting older adults' health and quality of life. Although many studies have examined impacts of various factors on the social participation of older adults, some internal mechanisms between health characteristics and environmental characteristics have not been revealed. This study aimed to examine the moderating effects of health characteristics on the relationships among psychological resources, social network support, community support and social participation of Chinese older adults. Based on some key health indicators, this study used the two‐step cluster algorithm to divide the participants aged over 60 years from the Chinese Longitudinal Aging Social Survey in 2016 (N = 8669) into low (47.2%), moderate (33.8%) and high (18%) health risk groups. A multiple‐group structural equation model was then built to examine the effects of psychological resources, social network support and community support on social participation across the three groups. The results suggested that with the increase in health risks, the contributions of psychological resources and community support to social participation decreased from 28.6% to 23.7% and from 61.5% to 50.7%, respectively, while that of social network support increased from 9.9% to 25.6%. These variations suggest that individual health has a significant moderating effect on the psychological and social compensating mechanisms of the social participation among Chinese older adults. The Chinese Glioma Cooperative Group (CGCG) Guideline Panel for adult diffuse gliomas provided recommendations for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The Panel covered all fields of expertise in neuro-oncology, i.e. neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropathologists, neuroradiologists, radiation and medical oncologists and clinical trial experts. The task made clearer and more transparent choices about outcomes considered most relevant through searching the references considered most relevant and evaluating their value. The scientific evidence of papers collected from the literature was evaluated and graded based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-based Medicine Levels of Evidence and recommendations were given accordingly. The recommendations will provide a framework and assurance for the strategy of diagnostic and therapeutic measures to reduce complications from unnecessary treatment and cost. The guideline should serve as an application for all professionals involved in the management of patients with adult diffuse glioma and also as a source of knowledge for insurance companies and other institutions involved in the cost regulation of cancer care in China. Aims and objectives: To assess the depression status of type 2 diabetic retinopathy patients in Nantong China and to identify factors associated with depression. Methods: Two hundred and ninety-four patients with type 2 diabetic retinopathy were recruited from the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University. The severity of DR was measured in the worse eye. Depressive symptoms were assessed with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D); the quality of life was measured with the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36 (SF-36). The logistic regression analyses were used to identify the independent factors of depression. Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 57.77 years (SD: 9.64). Approximately 35.7% of subjects reported depressive symptoms (n = 105).Multiple logistic regression analyses showed that female gender (p = 0.014), low monthly income (p = 0.01), poor vision in the better eye (P = 0.002), laser treatment history (p = 0.01) were significant risk factors for depression. The quality of life of individuals with CES-D score<16 was significantly better compared with individuals with CES-D score≥16. Conclusion: The reported depressive symptoms among type 2 diabetic retinopathy population is higher in Nantong China. Gender, salary, vision acuity and treatment history were important risk factors linked to this disorder in the Chinese type 2 diabetic retinopathy population from Nantong. Background The neurological outcome and predictive factors of idiopathic optic neuritis (ION) in China are largely unknown. Objective The aim of this paper is to study the neurological outcome of Chinese ION and to investigate the early predictors for multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD). Method Retrospective medical record review and supplementary follow-up of 107 ION patients was performed. Statistical analysis of the baseline characteristics as risk factors for ION patients converting into MS or NMOSD was performed. Results With an average disease course of 9.5 years, 19 of the 107 (17.7%) ION patients developed either MS (9, 8.4%) or NMOSD (10, 9.3%). The estimated 5-year and 10-year combined accumulative risk rates were 14.1% and 26.0%, respectively. Significantly higher estimated accumulative conversion risk was found in female versus male ( P = 0.047), adult versus children ( P = 0.032), patients with brain MRI lesions versus patients without leasions ( P = 0.026), patients with CSF positive oligoclonal bands and/or elevated IgG index versus without ( P = 0.003) and patients with poor visual recovery versus patients with good recovery ( P = 0.007). Furthermore, brain white matter lesions and good visual recovery were statistically more common typically in MS converters compared with the NMOSD converters ( P = 0.01 and P = 0.006, respectively). Conclusion The combined conversion rate for ION to MS/NMO in Chinese population was lower than the reported rate for Western countries. In addition to some previously reported high risk factors, white matter lesions on the brain MRI at baseline and good visual recovery were found to be good predictors for Chinese ION converting into MS whereas poor visual recovery with a normal brain MRI suggested a higher likelihood of the ION converting into NMOSD. This paper uses multi-level modelling to analyse data from the nationally-representative Chinese Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in order to investigate the characteristics associated with poor health among older people, including individual and household characteristics as well as the characteristics of the provinces in which the older person lives (contextual effects). The results show that older Chinese women, rural residents, those with an education level lower than high school, without individual income sources, who are ex-smokers, and those from poor economic status households are more likely to report disability and poor self-rated health. Background: The factors affecting neurological outcomes with unilateral open-door laminoplasty have been controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the characteristics of ectopic bone on poor neurological outcomes after unilateral open-door laminoplasty. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 112 patients who underwent unilateral open-door laminoplasty from September 2017 to September 2020. According to the Japanese Orthopedic Association score recovery rate after surgery (Japanese Orthopedic Association recovery rate ≥ 50% and < 50%, respectively), all patients were divided into "poor" and "good" groups. The characteristics of ectopic bone and the position relationship between the open side and ectopic bone (for lateral ossification) in the two groups were compared and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the risk factors for poor neurological outcome. Results: We identified patients with a mean age of 58.39 years and a mean follow-up of 25.43 months. Sixty (53.6%) patients experienced recovery of poor neurological function. On univariable analysis, significant predictors of poor neurological recovery were occupation rate of spinal canal > 60% (p = 0.000), ossification extending to C2 (p = 0.006), lateral ossification (p = 0.032) and opening side on the ipsilateral side of the ectopic bone (p = 0.011). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the occupation rate of spinal canal > 60% (P = 0.003), ossification extending to C2 (P = 0.041) and opening the door on the ipsilateral side for lateral ossification (P = 0.013) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis of neurological function. Conclusions: An occupation ratio > 60% is the most important risk factor. Another one is ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament extending to C2. Meanwhile, opening the door on the ipsilateral side is indeed a risk factor for lateral ossification. Better neurological function may be obtained by choosing the opposite side of the heterotopic bone as the open side. Background: Although arthroscopic partial meniscectomy is a widely implemented surgical procedure, studies investigating the time to return to activity (RTA) are rare. Purpose: To explore which factors are associated with the RTA times after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy and to investigate whether those factors can also improve short-term patient-reported outcomes. Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: The authors reviewed the records of patients who underwent isolated partial meniscectomy in their institution from January 2017 to December 2019. Patient and injury characteristics were documented, and time to RTA was obtained via phone interview in January 2021. Pre- and postoperative outcomes were assessed with the Lysholm score and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score. The chi-square test and independent-samples t test were used to evaluate differences in outcome scores and time to RTA according to the patient and injury characteristics, and risk factors with a P value <.1 in the univariate analysis were used in the binary regression. Results: Included were 215 patients (87 men and 128 women; mean age, 33.7 years [range, 24-75 years]). Of these patients, 204 provided information on time to RTA (mean, 3.3 months). By 3 months postoperatively, 49.5% (101/204) of patients could perform activities without knee-related restriction; this improved to 69.6% (142/204) at 6 months and 90.2% (184/204) at 12 months. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, age (OR, 0.39; 95% CI, 0.21-1.19; P =.044) and injury duration (OR, 0.20; 95% CI, 0.19-1.07; P =.032) were significantly associated with the time to RTA. IKDC scores improved significantly from 41.2 preoperatively to 76.7 postoperatively, and in the multivariate logistic regression model, female sex (OR, 2.67; 95% CI, 1.10-6.47; P =.030), body mass index (BMI) ≥27 kg/m2 (OR, 2.96; 95% CI, 1.02-8.66; P =.047), and medial meniscal tear (OR, 0.20; 95% CI, 0.04-1.00; P =.050) were associated with inferior outcome scores. Conclusion: Patients aged 40 years and younger who underwent partial meniscectomy surgery within 6 months after a meniscal tear were more likely to have a shorter time to RTA, and female patients with obesity (BMI ≥27 kg/m2), especially those with medial meniscal tears, tended to have inferior clinical outcomes. Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common and effective surgical method for advanced hip arthritis. Rehabilitation exercises are important to improve joint function after THA and are usually conducted in a home-based program. Poor patient adherence limits improvements in pain and function, affecting quality of life. The increasing use of THA in the aging Chinese population underscores the need to develop strategies that maximize functional outcomes. The purpose of this pilot study is to develop and assess the feasibility of a self-efficacy-enhancing intervention (SEEI) to improve exercise adherence in patients undergoing THA. Methods: This single-blinded, parallel, randomized control trial will recruit 150 patients after THA and randomly assign them to an intervention or control group using computer-generated block randomization. The control group will receive usual care using evidence-based guidelines. The intervention group will receive the 6-month SEEI comprising personalized exercise guidance and self-efficacy education delivered using one face-to-face education session and four telephone consultations, supplemented by written materials. Participants are encouraged to build confidence in their own abilities, set rehabilitation goals, and self-monitor their physical exercise. Results: Assessments will be conducted at baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months postsurgery. The outcome indicators are exercise adherence, physical function, anxiety and depression, self-efficacy of rehabilitation, joint function, and quality of life. Conclusions: This study will test a theory-based intervention program to improve self-efficacy in rehabilitation, which may significantly impact out-of-hospital rehabilitation. The results will provide evidence to inform the postoperative recovery of patients undergoing THA or similar procedures. Background After implementing the 2011 national antimicrobial stewardship campaign, few studies focused on evaluating its effect in China's primary care facilities. Methods We randomly selected 11 community health centers in Shenzhen, China, and collected all outpatient prescriptions of these centers from 2010 to 2015. To evaluate the impact of local interventions on antibiotic prescribing, we used a segmented regression model of interrupted time series to analyze 7 outcomes (ie, percentage of prescriptions with antibiotics, and percentages of prescriptions with broad-spectrum antibiotics, with parenteral antibiotics, and with 2 or more antibiotics in all prescriptions or antibiotic-containing prescriptions). Results Overall, 1 482 223 outpatient prescriptions were obtained. The intervention was associated with a significant immediate change (–5.2%, P  = .04) and change in slope (–3.1% per month, P  < .01) for the percentage of prescriptions with antibiotics, and its relative cumulative effect at the end of the study was –74.0% (95% confidence interval, –79.0 to –69.1). After the intervention, the percentage of prescriptions with broad-spectrum and with parenteral antibiotics decreased dramatically by 36.7% and 77.3%, respectively, but their percentages in antibiotic-containing prescriptions decreased insignificantly. Percentage of prescriptions with two or more antibiotics in all prescriptions or antibiotic-containing prescriptions only showed immediate changes, but significant changes in slope were not observed. Conclusions A typical practice in Shenzhen, China, showed that strict enforcement of the antimicrobial stewardship campaign could effectively reduce antibiotic prescribing in primary care with a stable long-term effect. Background. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a prognostic marker in elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases, but its predictive value in elderly valvular heart disease (VHD) patients is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of DM on the long-term outcome of elderly VHD patients. Methods. This single-center, observational study enrolled patients aged 65 and older consecutively with confirmed VHD using echocardiography. Patients, divided into the DM group and non-DM group, were followed up for major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCEs), including all-cause death, ischemic stroke, and heart failure rehospitalization. Results. Our study consisted of 532 patients over a median follow-up of 52.9 months. Compared with the non-DM group (n = 377), the DM group (n = 155) had higher incidences of ischemic stroke (25.2% vs. 13.5%, P = 0.001), heart failure rehospitalization (37.4% vs. 20.7%, P < 0.001), and MACCEs (60.0% vs. 35.8%, P < 0.001). After adjustment of confounders by the multivariable cox regression, DM appeared as an independent predictor for MACCEs (adjusted hazard ratio, aHR: 1.88; 95% confidence interval 1.42–2.48; P < 0.001). In the subgroup analysis of VHD etiology and functional style, conversely, DM was a protective factor for MACCEs in the patients with rheumatic VHD compared with those without rheumatic VHD (aHR: 0.43 vs. 2.27, P = 0.004). The association between dietary Fe intake and diabetes risk remains inconsistent. We aimed to explore the association between dietary Fe intake and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk in middle-aged and older adults in urban China. This study used data from the Guangzhou Nutrition and Health Study, an on-going community-based prospective cohort study. Participants were recruited from 2008 to 2013 in Guangzhou community. A total of 2696 participants aged 40–75 years without T2DM at baseline were included in data analyses, with a median of 5·6 (interquartile range 4·1–5·9) years of follow-up. T2DM was identified by self-reported diagnosis, fasting glucose ≥ 7·0 mmol/l or glycosylated Hb ≥ 6·5 %. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95 % CI. We ascertained 205 incident T2DM cases during 13 476 person-years. The adjusted HR for T2DM risk in the fourth quartile of haem Fe intake was 1·92 (95 % CI 1·07, 3·46; Ptrend = 0·010), compared with the first quartile intake. These significant associations were found in haem Fe intake from total meat (HR 2·74; 95 % CI 1·22, 6·15; Ptrend = 0·011) and haem Fe intake from red meat (HR 1·86; 95 % CI 1·01, 3·44; Ptrend = 0·034), but not haem Fe intake from processed meat, poultry or fish/shellfish. The association between dietary intake of total Fe or non-haem Fe with T2DM risk had no significance. Our findings suggested that higher dietary intake of haem Fe (especially from red meat), but not total Fe or non-haem Fe, was associated with greater T2DM risk in middle-aged and older adults. To explore the clinical practicality of the dizziness handicap inventory (DHI) in the Mandarin Chinese-speaking population and compare patients' and physicians' assessments of the impact of dizziness on the quality of life using the DHI. Prospective cross-sectional. Overall, 144 consecutive patients aged ≥ 18 years seeking treatment for dizziness in an Ear-Nose-Throat clinic in China. Some items in the DHI could not be completed by both patients (46/144, 31.9%) and physicians (26/144, 18.1%). In fully completed DHIs (98/144, 68.1%), the patients' self-assessment scores were higher than the physicians' assessment scores (average 44.04 ± 21.38 vs 35.94 ± 16.99; p < 0.05). The strength of the correlation between the patients' and physicians' total DHI scores was high (r = 0.80; p < 0.05). Moreover, at a cut-off point of 18, the discrepancy scores of 77.6% (76/98) of the cases did not exceed the minimum detectable change (MDC) of the DHI. The clinical practicality of the DHI in such settings requires improvement. Even though physician interviews can increase the degree of questionnaire completion, not all items can be completed. Although the physicians' assessment scores were lower than the patients' self-assessment scores, the majority of the discordancy scores were within the MDC of the DHI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
