Industrial energy management is critical to ensuring efficient energy usage, market viability, and greenhouse gas emission reductions. In this study, the aim is to investigate energy management practices in paper and pulp industries (PPI) of Bangladesh. The study identifies several barriers to adopt energy management practices; "Lack of governmental attention", "Inadequate staff awareness" and "limited access to capital" are identified as the major constraints. In addition, HVAC systems and compressed air systems present higher barriers compared to electrical motor and pump systems while looking at the barriers by technology areas. On the other hand, "Owner's demand", "Commitment from the top management" and "Pressure from the customers and different non-Governmental organization" are found to be the dominant drivers of energy management in the studied PPI. Energy management practices can enhance the energy efficiency approximately by 4–5 % according to the study. Furthermore, this study reveals that the majority of PPIs are unaware of the energy service companies (ESCO) with the lack of a standardized system for energy audit, as well as a lack of trust and information, appearing to be the obstacles behind this. • Energy management practices in paper and pulp industries of Bangladesh are shown. • Barriers and drivers to energy management practices in paper and pulp industry are presented. • Barriers to energy efficiency measures by technology area are discussed. • Barriers to consult energy service companies (ESCOs) are presented. This study aims to validate a data collection tool's psychometric properties to explore whether business management research's relevance is a high-order construct made up of its perceived interest and perceived relevance. The authors conducted a confirmatory factor analysis to validate a two-factor scale. The sample was composed of 148 MBA students from a Peruvian business school. Results showed the appropriate levels of validity and reliability and confirmed the usefulness of this data set for exploring the relationship between perceived interest and relevance. Businesses and schools can replicate the validated tool for reviewing their curricula and teaching practices, exploring the gap between business and management research results and advancing managers' research literacy and evidence-based practice in business education and training. Background: Scientific research publishing carries significant role in the development of the society. Apart from the dissemination of knowledge, there are also motives for publication of scientific research results at the level of individual researchers. Objectives: The goal of the paper is to propose simple, yet highly applicable advice when pursuing the publication of a paper in a scientific journal providing a closer look to economics, business and management journals that focus on Eastern European countries. Methods/Approach: The 4 Cs model of scientific writing and publication is presented, based on four questions: (1) How to pick a topic relevant for publication?; (2) How to select a journal for possible publication?; (3) How to structure the paper in accordance with the IMRAD format?, and (4) How to efficiently write the paper? Results: Step-by-step application of the 4C's model is presented in the paper with an outlook to economics, business and management journals that focus on Eastern European countries. Conclusions: Publication in a scientific journal is an important venue for scientific researchers. In preparing the presentation of the scientific research results for the publication, number of issues relating content, style, composition and presentation should be taken into account. There has been a huge excess of low-cost paper on the market and a global price erosion of manufactured product. Paper Products Limited (PPL) -- a Trinidad-based tissue paper manufacturer, was ruthlessly exposed to this changing environment. This paper reviews a strategic realignment exercise which was done to determine the root causes of project failures, and to tailor-make a project management (PM) framework to govern process improvement projects at PPL. In order to quantify historical project performance and determine the reasons for historical project failure at PPL, a four (4) phase study was initiated. Phase-1 involved the analysis of projects undertaken from 2012 to 2015 on the cost, schedule and scope variances. Phase-2 determined the root cause of project failures, Phase-3 comprised the development of a PM framework, incorporating the common processes advocated in literature and the final phase involved testing the efficacy of the framework using selected projects at PPL. Trial implementation of the customised PM framework achieved a reduction in budget, schedule and scope variation by 20%, 18% and 1%, respectively. These performance improvements were attributable to enhancements in the framework's approach to developing the risk management plan, the work breakdown structure and the stakeholder management. As validated by an executive review of the PM framework, the adoption of the framework could enhance PM practices and sustain PM performance improvements at PPL. This case study demonstrates an initiative in fostering PM practices and performance in business. The results and implications of the analyses discussed are of potential value to the field of studies. This study aims to analyze the relative efficiency of graduate programs in terms of the quality of their scientific publications in journals. To this end, we applied Data Envelopment Analysis to the fields of Public and Business Administration, Accounting, and Tourism, using data from the 2017 Quadrennial Evaluation developed by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior ["Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel", CAPES]. The results suggest that efficient graduate programs are concentrated in the center-south axis of Brazil, in the areas of Administration and Accounting. Despite the overall publishing strategy in journals of various ranks (strata), efficient graduate programs allocate their efficiency primarily to Qualis A1 journals, A1 being the excellence rating in the CAPES scale. We conclude that legitimized research practices pressure graduate programs to improve the quality of their publications while threatening the survival of programs that fail to conform to the assessment rules. The research aims to describe the state of enterprise risk management (ERM) in the insurance sector. It highlights emerging trends in the application of risk management in the insurance sector and thereby reports the prominent research gaps and new avenues for research in ERM. The research adopts a systematic literature review (SLR) approach, using 187 research papers spanning 44 years (1977–2021). The paper identifies the fact that most ERM and insurance sector research is performed in North America and Europe, while developing economies in Asia and Africa lag. The paper establishes a three-way relationship between ERM, risk management (RM) and risk-based capital (RBC) where RM is a subset of ERM and RBC is a driver of ERM. The research shows that very few studies are conducted on risk culture, three lines of defence and the role of chief risk officers. The determinants of ERM identified are board, firm size, audit and risk management committee and corporate governance. The determinants identified for firm value are return on assets, return on equity, profit, Tobin's Q, among others. Purpose of this paper is to determine changes in the research trends in the International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management by analyzing trends and topics covered by its papers that were published from 2010 to 2020 and available in the Scopus database. Keywords and titles of papers were identified. Analysis was conducted both summarized for all eleven years and individually for intervals of three years. Results showed that the most popular topic was mass customization. Also, usage of information technologies in managerial and engineering processes is becoming immensely popular in the last few years. Blockchain technology (BCT) is regarded as one of the most important and disruptive technologies in Industry 4.0. However, no comprehensive study addresses the contributions of BCT adoption (BCA) on some special business functionalities projected as financial variables like BCA integrity, transparency, etc. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to close this theoretical gap and determine how BCA has contributed to the four business sectors that were selected since FinTech had the greatest potential in these domains. The PRISMA approach, a systematic literature review model, was used in this work to make sure that the greatest number of studies on the topic were accessed. The PRISMA model's output helped identify relevant publications, and an analysis of these studies served as the foundation for this paper's findings. The findings reveal that BCA for companies with a disrupting financial technology (FinTech) attitude can help in securing corporate transaction transparency; offer knowledge, same-data, and information sharing; enhance fidelity, integrity, and trust; improve organizational procedures; and prevent fraud with cyber-hacking protection and fraudulence suspension. Moreover, blockchain's smart contract utilization feature offers ESG and sustainability functionality. This paper's novelty is the projection to four business sectors of the three-layer research sequence: (i) financial variables operated as BCA functionalities, (ii) issues, risks, limitations, and opportunities associated with the financial variables, and (iii) implications, theoretical contributions, questions, potentiality, and outlook of BCA/FinTech issues. And the ability of managers or practitioners to reference this sequence and make decisions on BCA matters is considered a key contribution. The proposed methodology provides business practitioners with valuable insights to reevaluate their economic challenges and explore the potential of blockchain technology to address them. This study combined a systematic literature review (SLR) with qualitative analysis as part of a hybrid research approach. Quantitative analysis was carried out on all 835 selected papers in the first step, and qualitative analysis was carried out on the top-cited papers that were screened. The current work highlights the key challenges and opportunities in established blockchain implementations and discusses the outlook potentiality of blockchain technology adoption. Examination management system is an information system that enables an educational institution to be more effective and efficient in planning, execution, and monitoring of academic-related test. The research was focused on investigating the perception of the instructors from Business Administration Science and Engineering faculties of Cyprus International University Nicosia, North Cyprus and it was analyzed to ascertain which of the examination types, computer-based (CB) test or paper-based (PB) test, the instructors preferred and observed to be more suitable. The analyses showed that most instructors preferred the CB test although instructors from business admin seem to also prefer PB test. The total population of the instructors in both faculties was 69 and a total of 61 questionnaires were retrieved and found usable from the 69 questionnaires administered, which were analyzed and used in the design of the system. A new system which will allow lecturers to create and upload questions, and then students can assess the site URL with their provided login credentials giving to them by the admin office to answer questions was suggested. As a facilitator of smart upgrading, digital twin (DT) is emerging as a driving force in prognostics and health management (PHM). Faults can lead to degradation or malfunction of industrial assets. Accordingly, DT-driven PHM studies are conducted to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs of industrial assets. However, there is a lack of systematic research to analyze and summarize current DT-driven PHM applications and methodologies for industrial assets. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the application of DT in PHM from the application field, aspect, and hierarchy at application layer. The paper next deepens into the core and mechanism of DT in PHM at theory layer. Then enabling technologies and tools for DT modeling and DT system are investigated and summarized at implementation layer. Finally, observations and future research suggestions are presented. Purpose This paper aims to make a call for the establishment of a new research journal: a likely title for which would be Chinese Public Management. The background to this is clearly set out here for posterity’s sake. The review of selected papers unveils an emerging trend amongst Chinese researchers for undertaking deeper, cluster-based analyses. See, for example, the insights presented in this issue concerning competitiveness in China’s automobile industry.Design/methodology/approach A diary-like account has been made of the series of recent events that sparked the author’s interest in creating a journal to be known as Chinese Public Management. Why is there currently this focus on empirical research for public policy? From the author’s five years’ work for a serial visiting professorship across China, he has found that there are now well-established, substantial databases dedicated to the subject. Even more importantly – as this paper illustrates – a growing community of scholars has become keen to embark upon an in-depth, quantitative research. Perhaps, for the new journal, we would need an editor concentrating specifically on databases. Furthermore, undertaking scholarly work that is still of practical relevance for guiding authorities in their formulations of public policy will add a whole new dimension to the available research.Findings There is scope for a new endeavor that documents management research within the public sector in China. This may be seen as a sister journal for “Chinese Management Studies” that focuses on the other, much larger Chinese sector, that is, governmental organizations.Originality/value This paper documents the emergence of the necessity for a new journal about management in China. Purpose: The paper discusses the application of outsourcing in logistics in companies operating online. Companies operating in the global market are constantly seeking new solutions that will enable them to gain and maintain a competitive advantage. One of the solutions used to increase the efficiency of an organisation is outsourcing. The main objective is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing in the online market. The application of outsourcing tools in business activities, such as using external companies for the distribution of goods, influences the increase in the competitiveness of companies in the online market through the rapid delivery of products. The use of external logistics operators increases the capacity of companies and helps them strengthen their competitive position in the market. Design/methodology/approach: The objective of the paper was achieved through the theoretical and empirical analysis of the research presented. The paper presents the results of research into online sales behaviour and identifies the advantages and disadvantages of outsourcing. The optimal solution to satisfy customer needs is the use of outsourcing, which is characterised by the high quality of services offered by external entities supporting the operation of companies. Findings: Nowadays, an organisation's success factor is increasingly the ability to manage relationships with customers and suppliers, which refers to both the level of customer service and cooperation with contractors. Many companies, including those operating online, are considering using special logistics outsourcing, the aim of which is to reduce costs and limit unnecessary investments. For example, using courier companies is a good practice of modern companies. This means they do not need to have their own transport, which often generates considerable costs. Research limitations/implications: The topic discussed in the paper is very important in the modern context due to the significant development of online sales. To meet public expectations, cooperation with suppliers is a must. Companies, by signing contracts with external operators, can ensure the quick delivery of shipments without the need to have their own transport. During the research, certain limitations were observed in accessing information, both domestic and international, which could have facilitated a more thorough analysis. Another limitation is finding a larger group of respondents willing to participate in the research. Despite these limitations, the author plans to continue research in this area. Practical implications: Outsourcing is currently used in most industries, regardless of their specifics, which gives this tool a universal character. Companies deciding to use outsourcing should be aware that its implementation requires the execution of many complex actions and detailed analyses, often preceded by significant changes in the organisation's operations. Nowadays, cooperation with contractors is one of the most important factors determining the success of an organisation. Social implications: The paper raises public awareness regarding the use of outsourcing in logistics. The described issues enable the audience to seek new solutions in the activities of various industries. Despite the widespread use of outsourcing, many relationships based on this type of cooperation do not end in success. Originality/value: The added value of the article is to increase the efficiency of companies through the introduction of outsourcing. The issues presented make it possible to increase competitive advantage in a dynamic market. Purpose: This paper aims to provide authorities managing free trade zones, business enterprises, financial institutions and dedicated free zone customs, police and immigration command assigned to deal with aspects of movement of goods and persons in and out of the free zones with a clear understanding of the cross-border financial crime risks associated with the African Continental Free Trade Area and the risk control measures that combines human intelligence with advanced technology to combat cross-border financial crimes in the African Continental Free Trade Area. Design/methodology/approach: A range of research activities would be used in this study. In addition to a sweeping literature review of academic, official studies and media writings, the main focus is on critically evaluating and analysing primary data by searching and collecting statutes, court cases, administrative rules and regulations and policy documents. Findings: This paper identified bribery and corruption; modern slavery; and trade-based money laundering as the financial crime risks that are of priority concern to African Continental Free Trade Areas and demonstrated how countries can assess and mitigate these risks through adequate policies, procedures and controls including appropriate compliance management arrangement and adequate screening procedures to ensure high standards when hiring employees; corporate transparency; training on managing incidents of modern slavery, forced labour and third-party exploitation; and appropriate monitoring framework for trade-based money laundering activities. Originality/value: While many authors have written research papers on intra-African trade, none of those research papers explained how countries can assess and mitigate financial crime risks in free trade zones. This research paper describes the ways in which cross-border financial crime risks can be assessed and adequately addressed by the authorities managing free trade zones. This research paper analyses the risk assessment topic in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area with a focus on free trade zones in Nigeria. This research paper would help authorities managing free trade zones, commercial organisations and business enterprises to identify, prevent and mitigate cross-border financial crime risks. Zone managements and business enterprises that implement the risk-based approach, in line with the guidance given in this research paper, will be well-placed to avoid the consequences of inappropriate de-risking behaviour. The Journal of Business Economics and Management (JBEM) has been very active in the field of economics and management science and brought many influential outputs in the last decades. This paper investigated the current status of publications and citations from JBEM and explored the hot topics and new trends represented by most used keywords extracted from the published articles from 2007 to 2019. The data were analyzed and mapped with respect to the most cited literature, most prolific authors, and publication records categorized by authors, institutions and countries. The analysis revealed that papers published each year by the JBEM is relatively stable and published papers has an expected citation number 7.68 times. The difference in frequency of keywords in different stages give us informative clue for future studies. The emerging topics include "SMEs" "Information" "framework" "perspective", hence the likely focus of JBEM to consider submission of papers centered on these topics, the comparison of keywords between JBEM and Hot Papers & Highly Cited Papers was made as well. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has emerged as a response to globalization and regulatory pressure on firms to manage their risk comprehensively. CSR is related to corporate risk management, as by engaging in CSR activities firms can be more effective in managing stakeholder relationships. Extant studies rarely examine both issues to the level of digital transformation. In the coming years, the issue of digital transformation will have an even bigger impact on business models. The first step in the effective implementation of ERM is the ability of the organization to learn and understand the requirements of ERM implementation in its company. Thus, it is important to examine the effect of the maturity learn element in ERM and CSR as risk management on the level of digital transformation. In addition, this paper also examines the moderating role of CSR on the association between ERM and the level of digital transformation. Our samples consist of manufacturing companies of developed countries in the European Union (which consists of Italy, Spain, Belgium Switzerland, Germany, France, and UK). The paper found evidence that enterprise risk management has a positive significant effect on the level of digital transformation. The paper also found evidence that CSR has a direct effect on the level of digital transformation. Based on data from China's A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2017, this paper examines the influence of the contemporary values of Confucianism, namely benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and fidelity on the effectiveness of internal control. It indicates a significant positive correlation between the contemporary values of Confucianism and the effectiveness of internal control. Furthermore, this positive influence is noticeable in family-owned businesses but is unobserved in foreign-invested enterprises in China. In addition, the contemporary values of Confucianism enhance internal control quality through two pathways: promotion incentives and corporate reputation. In regions with lower degrees of openness, lower levels of rule of law and slower marketization, or in companies facing operational crises, the contemporary values of Confucianism have a more pronounced effect on enhancing the effectiveness of internal control. The contemporary values of Confucianism have strengthened the ability of internal control to decrease agency costs and mitigate the negative influence of internal control on risk-taking. This study was motivated by the proliferation of forest management businesses for industrial interests. The issuance of the Industrial Plantation Forest policy has benefited pulp and paper corporations, which can be observed from both the rapidly increasing amount of production and the area used under corporate land management, which has even exceeded the amount of land used as regulated by existing regulations.There were three problems that this study seeks to address. Firstly, how had the Industrial Plantation Forest policies during the administrations of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo impacted P.T. Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper and local communities. Secondly, in what ways the policy had caused deforestation, especially on peatlands. Thirdly, how had the state, as the policy maker, maintained the social life of the communities to reduce conflicts that would disrupt production, particularly in Riau. This study show that the industrial plantation forest policies had benefited pulp and paper corporations, that rely on wood as raw materials, by providing various facilities and subsidies from the government. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration issued a lot more policies that benefited corporations than Joko Widodo's administration. Meanwhile, Joko Widodo in its first period administration attempted to make amendment by making a moratorium policy that temporarily suspended the issuance of new forest and land management permits. In addition, the Joko Widodo administration also introduced a social forestry policy that allowed communities to own forestry management land. However, during the second period of his administration, forestry policies, again, had benefited corporations, especially with the issuance of the Job Creation Law which gave rise to many protests from the public.Fred Block’s in his book “the Revising State theory” to the conclusion that the business community has a strong influence on the formation of state policy and that business people seek government’s assistance to support their profit-seeking activities through various policies. The policies are in the form of trade protection, subsidy programs, tax benefits, punitive treatment of strikers, contracts from the government, and so on. However, Block also believes that other than providing support to corporations to accumulate capital, the government must also maintain social stability both as a protection for business confidence and because the government wants to maintain its power. Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present the impact of employees’ perception of distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational justice on their behaviour and attitude in a workplace. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is theoretical and cognitive, grounded in an extensive literature review encompassing theoretical, review, and empirical studies on the impact of perception of justice on employee attitude. Findings: Human resources management must take into account employees’ perception of: distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational justice that refer to decisions taken by companies towards employees and results that come from these decisions, because this perception influences the behaviours and attitudes in a workplace. Practical implications: This research will allow a better understanding of human behaviour in the context of work. Perception of justice by employees influences behaviours and attitudes in a workplace and these behaviours and attitudes directly translate onto companies’ financial results. Social implications: The research shows how perception of organizational justice may psychologically impact individuals so that they demonstrate positive behaviours (greater satisfaction from work and organizational engagement) or so that they do not demonstrate dysfunctional behaviours (retaliatory behaviour). Originality/value: The research has shown that perception of organizational justice (distributive, procedural, interpersonal and informational) has an impact on employees’ attitudes and behaviours in a workplace. With increasing globalisation, organisations are confronted with intensifying market competition. Consequently, organisations continually implement novel technologies to address the challenges posed by market competition. In business process management (BPM), robotic process automation (RPA) is regarded as a tool or methodology that can automate specific tasks or activities within a business process. RPA is widely employed as a standard solution in various industries to assist enterprises in automating their processes, enhancing their operational efficiency, and reducing operational costs. Nevertheless, it is prudent to consider which processes can be automated by applying RPA and the most appropriate deployment methods for RPA. A literature review reveals that process identification is the optimal method for identifying processes suitable for automation, and three approaches - process mining, process quality-based and interview-based can be considered. There are three principal models for deploying RPA: local, cloud and hybrid. The RPA managers in an organisation are thus able to select the most appropriate deployment option based on the organisation's policies, requirements, and cost considerations. Furthermore, this study identifies the critical success factors (CSFs) and analyses their relationships using a 'why-why' diagram. This study could assist organisations in a more comprehensive understanding of RPA technology, which enables more effective utilisation of RPA for enhanced process management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on dynamic capabilities (DCs) has focused primarily on reactive DC deployment (i.e., opportunity discovery) with less attention being paid to proactive DC deployment (i.e., opportunity creation). Drawing on the opportunity creation perspective in entrepreneurship, we argue that proactive DC deployment is characterized by uncertainty, which makes deductive reasoning less effective and thus requires the use of heuristic reasoning. We also incorporate the evolutionary logic of variation, selection, and retention to theorize about the role of heuristic reasoning in the process of proactive DC deployment. Specifically, we integrate the concept of ecologically rational heuristic reasoning to answer two key questions: First, how does ecologically rational heuristic reasoning facilitate proactive DC deployment when the decision context is uncertain? Second, why is ecologically rational heuristic reasoning effective for proactive DC deployment? The study aims to present a bibliometric analysis of the journal "Open Journal of Business and Management" towards providing summary of research activities and to characterize the important aspects. The present study is based on the bibliometrics analysis of the papers published during the period 2013-2021. The analysis mainly covers the year-wise distribution, category-wise classification, authorship patterns, degree of collaboration, geographical distribution of articles and the citation analysis. The analysis revealed that during the study period, 703 papers were published. In 2020 (172 articles, 24.46 percent) the maximum number of papers have been published and in 2013 has been the minimum (11 articles, 1.56 percent). The single author (282 papers, 40.02 per cent) followed the two categories of authors was the highest number of papers (31.62 percent). However, there are obstacles and challenges with the wide-spread applications of this technology. The special issue of “The business value of Blockchain, challenges, and perspectives” at the Journal of Information Technology Management (JITM) aims to cover this timely and hot research topic of Blockchain, the challenges it faces, and the value it brings to the different industry sectors. We received numerous submissions; nevertheless, after the initial screening and two rounds of the peer review process, ten papers have been finally accepted for publication.
