The combined effect of tourism economic growth has presented an important catalytic and driving role in modern urban development, especially in China's urban regeneration and industrial restructuring. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is a new attempt by China's government to comprehensively promote a new pattern of economic opening for metropolitan areas, and tourism development has assumed the role of a window to showcase the quality of the GBA's cities to the world. How to promote the coordinated development of tourism and cities is particularly important in shaping new industries and enhancing the quality of urban development in the GBA. This paper constructs an evaluation index system and uses the improved entropy-weighted Topsis model to calculate the Coordinated Level between Tourism and Urban Development (TUDCL) and applies it to analyze the impact of tourism on promoting urban development in the GBA. The study finds that the TUDCL changes steadily from 2000 to 2019 and currently remains at a medium level, with large differences between cities of different levels, and that there is more room to improve the TUDCL of peripheral cities in the GBA such as Huizhou, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing. When the tourism industry grows to a certain size, it can in turn lead to the synergistic growth of other industries in the city. Different cities need to formulate appropriate optimization policies according to their own industry type, tourism resource endowment, economic openness, and location conditions. This study proposes a scientific and effective evaluation index system to identify the level of coordination between tourism and urban development in the GBA and distils the contribution of different factors and the time sequence of their influence in stages, which is of positive significance in understanding the synergistic relationship between tourism and urban development and provides theoretical reference for planning a quality living circle suitable for living, working, and traveling in the GBA. The construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the Greater Bay Area) has injected new impetus into the development of the tourism economy and created new emerging tourism industries. Therefore, many tourism planning needs to be formulated, which generates new requirements for tourism planners in terms of quantity and quality of tourism planning. Different stakeholders have different views on the needs of tourism planners. From the perspective of different stakeholders, what are the factors affecting the training needs of tourism planners? There is little research on the training needs of tourism planners from the perspective of stakeholders. Most of the existing research on the training needs of tourism planners derive only from the perspective of students or the ones from supply and demand, rather than from multiple stakeholders. This paper aims to construct a conceptual framework identifying factors affecting the training needs of tourism planners from stakeholders' perspective. A qualitative method (semi-structured interviews) is applied in this study to investigate the factors affecting the supply and demand of tourism planners in the Great Bay Area. The results show educators focus on market demand, working competence and teacher resources. Enterprises are concerned about the tourism policy, market demand, educational requirements and working competence. Students focus on employment motivation and working competence. Market demand is a common concern of educators and enterprises. Working competence is a factor of common interest to all stakeholders. Objective. To carry out the research on the vulnerability evaluation and influencing factors of the tourism economic system is the objective requirement of formulating the scientific development strategy of the tourism economy and improving the quality of regional tourism development. Methods. Based on the vulnerability analysis of tourism economic system based on BP neural network (BPNN), this paper takes the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as the research object and selects 14 index data. The mean and standard deviation of the calculated weight values are used to formulate evaluation criteria for the tourism system. Results. The BP neural network (BPNN) model was used to predict the distribution law of vulnerability data within the standard range of the Greater Bay Area after 2020, obtained the spatial distribution law of vulnerability in the geographic structure distribution of the Greater Bay Area, and determined the vulnerability analysis framework and evaluation method. Conclusion. The cities in the Greater Bay Area should first pay attention to the industrial structure; increase financial investment; enhance the attractiveness of tourist destinations, in-depth development of tourism resources, and rational design of tourism products; help reduce the vulnerability of the tourism economic system; and improve regional self-recovery capabilities. As China’s tourism industry enters a new era of the happiness industry, tourism livelihood efficiency has become an important basis for testing the development effect of tourism. Based on the perspective of the happiness industry, this paper takes Guangdong Province as an example to evaluate tourism livelihood efficiency in coastal areas. The DEA model and Malmquist model are used to measure tourism livelihood efficiency with the spatial and temporal evolution of 21 cities in Guangdong Province from 2010 to 2017. The results show that the tourism livelihood efficiency of Guangdong Province has reached a good state overall and that tourism development has entered a stage of intensive growth. The evolution of regional tourism efficiency has obvious regional characteristics, with the regional tourism efficiency of the Pearl River Delta being larger than that of eastern Guangdong, the mountainous area and western Guangdong. Based on the status of tourism livelihood efficiency over the years, cities are divided into four types: the strong type, growth type, steady type and stagnation type. With the rapid development of economy, China's urbanization process is accelerated. As major urban cluster center, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is regarded as one of the most representative areas with the highest openness and the strongest economic vitality. Under the background of new era, main purpose of making development strategy of the Greater Bay Area is to build a world-class city cluster with great vitality, and establish a world-class science and technology innovation center with great influence. It also lays a good foundation for strengthening the construction of the belt and road initiative in China, and improves quality of life in the cooperation zone between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao. Under the background, the tourism industry has new challenges, and the tourism spatial structure should be more closely linked. In this paper, tourism spatial structure of 9+2 urban agglomeration in the Greater Bay Area is taken as core research objective, and tourism resource of the urban agglomeration, and development of tourism economy and perfect transportation network in each city are analyzed. The national strategy of "Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area" has replaced the original Pearl River Delta economic circle. As one of them, the economic development of Zhaoqing City ushered in a historic opportunity. Other cities in Greater Bay Area provide sufficient tourist resources for the development of Zhaoqing's tourism industry. Under the new situation, Seven Star Cave, the leading scenic spot in Zhaoqing, should firmly grasp the national strategic dividend of the "Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao Greater Bay Area", accelerate the transformation and upgrading, and enhance the market competitiveness. In this paper, the data are collected by nominal group technique, and are integrated into SWOT matrix for analysis. This paper studies the urbanization impacts on tourism development in four regions Guangdong province, using time-series data of Guangdong province in China in 1996–2011. Urbanization has been operationalized by population, economic, geographical landscape and social cultural dimensions. This study suggests that urbanization, though in general increases tourism development, does not affect different regions in Guangdong uniformly. Tourism development in different regions will receive different impacts from urbanization. Therefore, policy-makers, while promoting tourism development, should be aware of the different levels of impact of urbanization towards tourism development. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

In line with the concept of brand association, a famous Designation of Origin (DO) brand image may influence the non-visitor perception of the destination image, but there is little research on this topic. This study investigates the effect of the DO brand image on destination image and non-visitor visiting intention toward a tea culture tourism destination. A systematic survey was conducted in Guangdong, China. The results of 311 valid samples show that all four dimensions (feature, value, functional, and affective) of the DO brand image have a significant positive impact on destination image, but only two cognitive dimensions (feature and functional) of the DO brand image directly influence visiting intention. Therefore, this study confirms that destination image mediates the relationship between DO brand image and tourists' visit intention. This study contributes to destination image research by linking DO brand and destination image to promote a tourist destination. It also provides implications to tea culture tourism research by integrating a measurement scale of tea image and recommending the practices of tea culture tourism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-speed rail (HSR) has been proven to drive the development of regional tourism. However, few studies paid attention to the impact of HSR on future tourism land use. In this study, points of interest (POI) were used to obtain the locations and types of tourism facilities, and high-resolution remote sensing images helped us determine the spatial extents of the tourism facilities, so that tourism land could be identified. A system dynamics (SD) model was coupled with the patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) model to simulate future tourism land by considering two scenarios, including HSR-led development (HRD) and the historical development pattern (HD) scenario. The SD model was employed to project the amount of tourism land and determine the HSR effects via empirical analysis. The PLUS model was applied to simulate the spatial distribution of tourism land and model the HSR effect by adopting a planned tourism area as the development area. The study area is Xinxing County in Guangdong Province, China, a county dominated by rural tourism, with the HSR expected to open in 2025. The results revealed that the SD-PLUS model has great advantages in simulating tourism land use change, and the HRD scenario leads to major changes in the sources of tourism land growth. The dynamic change of ESV can directly reflect the changes of regional ecosystem under the influence of human activities. In order to explore the nature and mechanism of the impact of rural tourism on rural ecosystem, based on the LUCC data and taking ESV as the evaluation index, the temporal-spatial change of the ecosystem in Yanyang Town, a tourism typical town, was evaluated. Conclusions as following: (1) The total ESV decreased by 7.19 million yuan in the past 16 years, but the ESV showed a trend of decreasing first and then increasing corresponding to different development stages of rural tourism. (2) As rural tourism's intervention on land, especially on forestland, is much lower than that of traditional agriculture, the ESV of most rural tourism villages shows an upward trend, which showed that most rural tourism activities have a positive impact on rural ecosystem. But rural tourism under different development modes also has different impacts because of the different dependence on ecosystem. Those conclusions show that rural tourism is an effective way to realize rural revitalization and sustainable development, but the exploitation of rural traditional culture and rural ecosystem value should be emphasized in the process of development. Via literature research, field survey, and statistical analysis, taking Renshangli Village, Shangting Village and Huashi Village as key tourism poverty alleviation villages in northern Guangdong, the effect and influence of tourism poverty alleviation of local residents are studied. The results show that residents have high degree of satisfaction and work coordination with the construction of tourism poverty alleviation, and are optimistic about the future development of tourism. Residents have signifi cantly positive perception of the economic, cultural, environmental and social effects of tourism poverty alleviation. Residents have strong willingness to participate in tourism, but the actual participation rate is low restricted by economic and cultural factors. The construction of environmental facilities provides employment, which benefits residents, and it has the highest feedback effi ciency. Tourism plays an important role in promoting local economic development, expanding employment and adjusting industrial structure. According to problems existing in the process of tourism poverty alleviation of poor villages in the fi eld survey, the optimization countermeasures are put forward from the aspects of talent introduction, capital support, cultural characteristics mining, enterprise support and industrial structure reform. China has experienced rapid urbanization over recent decades. The tourism literature, however, has rarely explored this issue. This article examines the historical process of urbanization and tourism development, using time-series data of Guangdong Province in China for the period 1994–2010. Research results are based on a systematic analysis studying the relationship between tourism development and urbanization. Tourism development is measured by the total income generated by tourism. Urbanization has been operationalized by population, economic, geographic landscape, and sociocultural dimensions. This study suggests that urbanization, though generally increasing tourism development, does not affect all types of tourism development uniformly. The results show that urbanization is an important factor for domestic tourism development, but not for foreign tourism development in China. Therefore, policy-makers, while assessing the effect of urbanization on tourism development, should be cautioned on the different policy goals the province would want to achieve.
