In order to effectively investigate the current situation of biology teachers in Southern Henan, this study used the method of interviews and questionnaires to investigate and analyze the current situation of biology teachers in Southern Henan from their living status and professional development. The survey results show that: (1) The overall satisfaction of biology special post teachers in southern Henan is general, the office conditions can meet the teaching needs, the salary and housing conditions need to be improved, and the spare-time and family life needs of biology special post teachers attract attention; (2) Professional development is generally satisfactory. Specialized biology teachers in Southern Henan are willing to participate in educational and teaching reform, but their participation in teaching and research activities needs to be further strengthened. Specialized biology teachers have a large workload and high labor intensity. In view of the above findings, this paper puts forward some countermeasures for the development of biology special post teachers in Southern Henan, with a view to providing theoretical reference for the follow-up research on biology special post teachers, as well as providing important information for improving the living status of specialty post teachers, promoting professional development and improving the quality of education and teaching.

Background: The influence of native secondary succession associated with anthropogenic disturbance on the biodiversity of the forests in subtropical China remains uncertain. In particular, the evolutionary response of small understory shrubs, particularly pioneer species inhabiting continuously disturbed habitats, to topographic heterogeneity and climate change is poorly understood. This study aimed to address this knowledge gap by focusing on the Gaultheria crenulata group, a clade of small pioneer shrubs in subtropical China. Results: We examined the genetic structure and demographic history of all five species of the G. crenulata group with two maternally inherited chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) fragments and two biparentally inherited low-copy nuclear genes (LCG) over 89 natural populations. We found that the genetic differentiation of this group was influenced by the geomorphological boundary between different regions of China in association with Quaternary climatic events. Despite low overall genetic diversity, we observed an isolation-by-distance (IBD) pattern at a regional scale, rather than isolation-by-environment (IBE), which was attributed to ongoing human disturbance in the region. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the genetic structure of the G. crenulata group reflects the interplay of geological topography, historical climates, and anthropogenic disturbance during the Pliocene–Pleistocene-Holocene periods in subtropical China. The observed IBD pattern, particularly prominent in western China, highlights the role of limited dispersal and gene flow, possibly influenced by physical barriers or decreased connectivity over geographic distance. Furthermore, the east-to-west trend of gene flow, potentially facilitated by the East Asian monsoon system, underscores the complex interplay of biotic and abiotic factors shaping the genetic dynamics of pioneer species in subtropical China's secondary forests. Terrestrial geothermal springs are physicochemically diverse and host abundant populations of Archaea. However, the diversity, functionality, and geological influences of these Archaea are not well understood. Here we explore the genomic diversity of Archaea in 152 metagenomes from 48 geothermal springs in Tengchong, China, collected from 2016 to 2021. Our dataset is comprised of 2949 archaeal metagenome-assembled genomes spanning 12 phyla and 392 newly identified species, which increases the known species diversity of Archaea by ~48.6%. The structures and potential functions of the archaeal communities are strongly influenced by temperature and pH, with high-temperature acidic and alkaline springs favoring archaeal abundance over Bacteria. Genome-resolved metagenomics and metatranscriptomics provide insights into the potential ecological niches of these Archaea and their potential roles in carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, and hydrogen metabolism. Furthermore, our findings illustrate the interplay of competition and cooperation among Archaea in biogeochemical cycles, possibly arising from overlapping functional niches and metabolic handoffs. Taken together, our study expands the genomic diversity of Archaea inhabiting geothermal springs and provides a foundation for more incisive study of biogeochemical processes mediated by Archaea in geothermal ecosystems. Objective: This study aimed to provide clinical evidence for lineage replacement and genetic changes of High-Risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV) during the period of vaccine coverage and characterize those changes in eastern China. Methods: This study consisted of two stages. A total of 90,583 patients visiting the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University from March 2018 to March 2022 were included in the HPV typing analysis. Another 1076 patients who tested positive for HPV31, 33, 52, or 58 from November 2020 to August 2023 were further included for HPV sequencing. Vaccination records, especially vaccine types and the third dose administration time, medical history, and cervical cytology samples were collected. Viral DNA sequencing was then conducted, followed by phylogenetic analysis and sequence alignment. Results: The overall proportion of HPV31 and 58 infections increased by 1.23% and 0.51%, respectively, while infection by HPV33 and 52 decreased by 0.42% and 1.43%, respectively, within the four-year vaccination coverage period. The proportion of HPV31 C lineage infections showed a 22.17% increase in the vaccinated group, while that of the HPV58 A2 sublineage showed a 12.96% increase. T267A and T274N in the F-G loop of HPV31 L1 protein, L150F in the D-E loop, and T375N in the H-I loop of HPV58 L1 protein were identified as high-frequency escape-related mutations. Conclusions: Differences in epidemic lineage changes and dominant mutation accumulation may result in a proportional difference in trends of HPV infection. New epidemic lineages and high-frequency escape-related mutations should be noted during the vaccine coverage period, and regional epidemic variants should be considered during the development of next-generation vaccines. Purpose: The lockdown of schools to control the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has adversely affected elementary and secondary school students in China. However, little evidence is available that documents their perceptions toward the use of e-learning under the pandemic context. This study aims to explore (1) the underlying determinants influencing the students' intentions to continue e-learning and (2) the role that the COVID-19 pandemic plays in this decision. This study extends the expectation–confirmation model (ECM) through a mixed-methods study. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses a mixed-methods approach. Phase 1 draws conclusions and extracts significant elements related to e-learning during the pandemic by analyzing students' user reviews from platforms. Based on the findings, the authors identify the relevant variables and develop an extended ECM by integrating attitudes and the perceived threat of COVID-19. In Phase 2, the research model is empirically validated using data collected from 36,920 elementary and secondary school students in China. This study uses a mixed-methods approach. Phase 1 draws conclusions and extracts significant elements related to e-learning during the pandemic by analyzing students' user reviews from platforms. Check dams have been widely used in China's Loess Plateau region due to their effectiveness in erosion and flood control. However, the safety and stability of the check dam decrease with the operation process, which increases the probability of dam failure during flood events and threatens local residents' life and property. Thus, this study simulated flood process of the check dam failure in the Wangmaogou watershed in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, China, calculated different types of inundation losses based on the flood inundation area within the watershed, and determined the number of key flood protection check dams by classifying the flood risk levels of the check dams. The results showed that 5 dams in the watershed were subject to overtopping during different rainfall return periods, which was related to their flood discharge capacity. Dam failure flood process showed a rapid growth trend followed by slow decrease, and the time of flood peak advanced with increase in the return period. After harmonization of evaluation scales, the magnitude of flood inundation losses can be ranked as: economic losses (212.409 million yuan) > life losses (10.368 million yuan) >ecological losses (6.433 million yuan). The risk value for both individual dams and the whole dam system decreases as the return period increases. The number of key flood protection check dams in the Wangmaogou watershed was 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, and 5 for floods with return periods of 10, 20, 30, 50, 100, and 200 years, respectively. Based on the panel data of 283 prefecture-level cities in China from 2011 to 2019, this study constructed an index measurement system of digital economy, economic agglomeration, innovation and entrepreneurship, and employment structure. The index of digital economy was developed by entropy weight method, and the double-fixed spatial Durbin model was constructed based on the intermediary effect from the spatial perspective to determine the direct effect, indirect effect, and total effect of the digital economy, economic agglomeration degree, and innovation and entrepreneurship on employment structure. The results indicated a significant spatial correlation between the three aspects, i.e., digital economy can significantly optimize the employment structure, with an evident spillover effect. The mechanism analysis revealed that the level of innovation and entrepreneurship poses a stronger intermediary effect than the degree of economic agglomeration, and the digital economy in the eastern region directly impacts the urban employment structure; however, the influence of digital economy on the employment structure is significantly higher in small- and medium-sized cities than in large-sized cities. Nanjing Yunjin, one of China's traditional silk weaving techniques, is renowned for its unique local characteristics and exquisite craftsmanship, and was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2009. However, with rapid development in weaving technology, ever-changing market demands, and shifting public aesthetics, Nanjing Yunjin, as an intangible cultural heritage, faces the challenge of survival and inheritance. Addressing this issue requires efficient storage, management, and utilization of Yunjin knowledge to enhance public understanding and recognition of Yunjin culture. In this study, we have constructed an intelligent question-answering system for Nanjing Yunjin digital resources based on knowledge graph, utilizing the Neo4j graph database for efficient organization, storage, and protection of Nanjing Yunjin knowledge, thereby revealing its profound cultural connotations. Furthermore, we adopted deep learning algorithms for natural language parsing. Specifically, we adopted BERT-based intent recognition technology to categorize user queries by intent, and we employed the BERT + BiGRU + CRF model for entity recognition. By comparing with BERT + BILSTM + CRF, BERT + CRF and BILSTM + CRF models, our model demonstrated superior performance in terms of precision, recall, and F1 score, substantiating the superiority and effectiveness of this model. Finally, based on the parsed results of the question, we constructed knowledge graph query statements, executed by the Cypher language, and the processed query results were fed back to the users in natural language. Through system implementation and testing, multiple indices including system response time, stability, load condition, accuracy, and scalability were evaluated. The experimental results indicated that the Nanjing Yunjin intelligent question-answering system, built on the knowledge graph, is able to efficiently and accurately generate answers to user's natural language queries, greatly facilitating the retrieval and utilization of Yunjin knowledge. This not only reinforces the transmission, promotion, and application of Yunjin culture but also provides a paradigm for constructing other intangible cultural heritage question-answering systems based on knowledge graphs. Background: Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) play a vital role in safeguarding the rights and interests of both research participants and researchers. However, China initiated the establishment of its own IRB system relatively late in comparison to international standards. Despite commendable progress, there is a pressing need to strengthen the organizational capacity building of Chinese IRBs. Hence, this study aims to analyze the key factors driving the enhancement of organizational capacity within these committees. Method: The cross-sectional survey for this research was conducted from July 2020 to January 2022. Following the statistical grouping based on the "2020 China Health Statistical Yearbook", a systematic investigation of IRBs in various provinces of China was carried out. In-depth interviews and questionnaire surveys were conducted with the chairpersons and administrative executives (or secretaries) of highly cooperative IRBs. Subsequently, data were collected from 107 IRBs. Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) was employed as the method to analyze the factors influencing the organizational capacity of medical ethics committees and explore the diverse combinations of these factors. Results: Through a singular necessary condition analysis, the variable "protection of rights and interests" emerges as a critical factor contributing to the robust construction of Institutional Review Boards Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). Conversely, the variables of "lack of member ability, absence of review process, and deficiency in the supervision mechanism" collectively constitute a sufficient condition leading to weaker IRB construction. The state analysis uncovers three interpretation modes: member ability-oriented (M1), system process-oriented mode (M2), and resource system-oriented mode (M3). Conclusions: The results of this study are effectively explicable using the "Triangular Force" model proposed for the hypothesis of IRBs' organizational capacity, which provides a solid foundation for the development of organizational capabilities in IRBs. To enhance the organizational capacity of IRBs in China, it is imperative to elevate the competence of committee members and strengthen team development. This can be achieved by establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework and refining procedural protocols. Moreover, clarifying the organizational structure and optimizing resource allocation are essential steps in bolstering the overall organizational capabilities of these committees. Rapidly predicting and revealing the spatiotemporal characteristics and driving factors of land-use changes in carbon storage within megacities under different scenarios is crucial to achieving sustainable development. In this study, Jinan City (JNC) is taken as the study area, and the Markov-FLUS-InVEST model is utilized to predict and analyze the spatiotemporal variation in carbon storage in 2030 under three scenarios, namely, the natural development scenario (S1), the ecological conservation scenario (S2), and the economic development scenario (S3). The drivers of carbon storage changes were identified using an optimal parameter-based geographic detection (OPGD) model. The findings indicate that (1) land use from 2010 to 2018 shows a trend of continuous expansion of construction land and reduction in arable land. (2) The main types of carbon pools were cropland, forest, and grassland, accounting for more than 96% of the total amount. Carbon storage showed a decreasing trend from 2010 to 2018, and the main type of carbon pool that decreased was cropland. The center of gravity of carbon storage increases and decreases was located in the southern Lixia District, and the center of gravity of increase and decrease moved to the southwest by 3057.48 m and 1478.57 m, respectively. (3) From 2018 to 2030, the reductions in carbon stocks were 3.20 × 106 t (S1), 2.60 × 106 t (S2), and 4.26 × 106 t (S3), and the carbon release was about 9 times (S1), 4 times (S2), and 10 times (S3) that of the carbon sink. (4) The contribution of slope (A2) ∩ nighttime light index (B6) and elevation (A1) ∩ nighttime light index (B6) to the regional heterogeneity of carbon stocks was the largest among the interaction drivers. To sum up, this study deepens the simulation of spatial and temporal dynamics of carbon storage under land-use changes in megacities and the related driving mechanism, which can provide the basis for scientific decision-making for cities to conduct territorial spatial planning and ecological protection and restoration. Psychological resilience (PR) plays an important role in fortifying mental health during pandemics. This study aimed to examine the PR and its related factors of college students in China after the deblocking of the China's COVID-19 pandemic strategy. A total of 1100 college students from 15 universities participated in this cross-sectional survey by multi-stage stratified sampling. Data were collected by self-designed socio-demographic information, the family function assessment scale (APGAR), a general health questionnaire (GHQ-12), the general self-efficacy scale (GSES), and a psychological resilience scale. The average score of PR was 135.65 ± 18.54. Cluster analysis of PR scores showed that 24.9% of the college students had weak PR. The higher PR, the higher mental health status (r = 0.352, p < 0.05). Females had higher PR than males (OR = 0.550, 95% CI: 0.367–0.827). High self-efficacy was an independent protective factor of high PR (OR = 0.093, 95% CI: 0.059–0.145). Low family contact frequency, poor family function, and bad mental health status were the independent risk factors of high PR. In conclusion, the PR of Chinese college students were insufficient after the deblocking of China's COVID-19 pandemic strategy, indicating an improvement of PR should be put into practice immediately. Frequent monthly contact with family, family function, self-efficacy, mental health status, and gender were the influencing factors of PR, which provides an intervention strategy for the future. A total of 26 strains of lactic acid bacteria were screened with the aim of achieving a high flavonoid aglycone conversion rate in fermented seabuckthorn juice. The fermentation was optimized through single strain selection, followed by mixed inoculation. Lactobacillus plantarum L23, Pediococcus pentosaceus P27, and Lactobacillus plantarum L21 emerged as the most efficient conversion strains used for mixed inoculation. Subsequently, the orthogonal test was conducted to optimize pH value, temperature, and carbon source addition. The flavonoid aglycone content (calculated by isorhamnetin) was measured as a primer value for optimization. After screening, the highest flavonoid aglycone content was obtained under the following conditions: pH value of 4, temperature of 30 °, carbon source of 6% (m/V), and inoculation ratio of 1:2:1. The contents of total flavonoids, total phenolic acid, organic acid, and crude polysaccharides were measured before and after fermentation of seabuckthorn raw juice. The flavonoid aglycone content increased by approximately 90%, whereas the total flavonoid content increased by approximately 108%. In this formula, the contents of crude polysaccharide, organic acid, and total phenolic acid were also significantly different from those of the original seabuckthorn juice before fermentation. This study serves as a valuable reference for investigating the conversion mechanism of flavonoid aglycones using lactic acid bacteria, providing guidance for further industrial processing of seabuckthorn in China. In the Sanjiang Plain, agricultural drainage ditches effectively alleviate agricultural non-point source nitrogen pollution. However, limited information is known about the characteristics of bidirectional trans-ports of nitrogen between sediment and overlying and pore water in different patterns of ditches undergoing seasonal freezing-thawing cycles. It is vital to better understand nitrogen interception and purification by ecological ditches. In order to clarify the interception of ecological ditches on internal and external nitrogen, overlying water and sediment samples of two typical agricultural ditches were collected and analyzed in Sanjiang Plain during the growing seasons of 2015–2017. The results indicated that the N- N O 3 − in overlying water, which was higher than N- N H 4 + , was the dominant inorganic nitrogen, whilst, in the sediment, N- N H 4 + was much higher than N- N O 3 − , which should be attributed to the soil's adsorption of N- N H 4 + . In contrast to the dryland ditch, the paddy ditch had a more significant amount of inorganic nitrogen both in overlying water and sediment, which means that the non-point source nitrogen pollution caused by paddy fields was more severe than that of drylands. Compared with dryland ditches, N- N H 4 + in the sediment of pad ditches seemed to be much easier to migrate to a deeper layer, which may cause a greater risk of nitrogen pollution to groundwater. Both in the overlying water and the sediment of ditches, nitrogen content fluctuated during different periods, and inter-annual variation was noticeable, which results means that estimation or prediction of the non-point source pollution output needs to extend the monitoring period and increase sampling frequency to reduce the great uncertainty. The findings may provide a foundation for forecasting agricultural nitrogen pollution and guide best management practices (BMPs) of non-point source nitrogen pollution control in seasonally frozen areas. Aim: This study was designed to develop an effective measurement tool for occupational stress among medical staff and to identify the underlying risk factors among clinical nurses in China under depression during and after COVID-19.Methods: In the first stage, an occupational stress scale was developed for medical staff based on qualitative and quantitative methods. The dimensions of the scale were based on childhood stress and seven other parameters of working stress. In the second stage, a provincial survey was conducted among clinical nurses in Hainan. The structure of Medical Staff Occupational Stress Scale was tested in secondary and tertiary hospitals. The socio-demographic information, occupational stress (measured using the developed scale), and current depression symptoms (assessed with the nine‐item Patient Health Questionnaire) were evaluated. The risk factors for occupational stress-induced depression were tested using multivariate logistic regression.Results: The Medical Staff Occupational Stress Scale consisted of 42 items under eight dimensions with strong reliability and validity. Almost 80% of the clinical nurses reported obvious symptoms of depression. Based on multivariate logistical regression analysis, the significant risk factors for depression in nurses at secondary hospitals and tertiary hospitals were childhood stress, teaching stress, relationship with patient stress, and administration stress.Conclusion: The Medical Staff Occupational Stress Scale utilized in nursing population is based on strong psychometric features. Childhood stress contributes to occupational stress in nurses. The selection of nurses for clinical work may require evaluation of past history for childhood stress to prevent occupational depression. Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) is a significant foodborne pathogen and a common cause of intestinal diseases in both animals and humans. Our study investigated MLST, phenotypic antimicrobial resistance profiles, and resistance genes among isolates from human, animal and food. 186 C. perfringens isolates were obtained from nine provinces in China between 2013 and 2021. Additionally, some specific ST complexes were analyzed by cgMLST and cgSNP to investigate genetic relatedness. MLST indicated the most prevalent STs of C. perfringens of human and animal origin were as follows: ST221 (5/147), ST62 (4/147), ST408 (4/147), and ST493 (4/147) were predominant in humans, while ST479 (5/25) was the major type in animals. Within the same ST complex, genetically unrelated relationships or potential clustering/transmission events were further recognized by cgMLST and cgSNP, illustrating that these two methods are valuable in defining outbreaks and transmission events. All tested isolates were susceptible to vancomycin and meropenem. The rates of resistance to metronidazole, penicillin, cefoxitin, moxifloxacin, and chloramphenicol were low (metronidazole: 1.08%; penicillin: 9.68%; cefoxitin: 0.54%; moxifloxacin: 6.45%; and chloramphenicol: 3.76%). Interestingly, 49.66% of human origin were clindamycin-resistant, and 18.2% were penicillin-insensitive. Importantly, the portion of MDR isolates was significantly lower than in previous reports. The study provides an overview of the epidemiological characteristics of C. perfringens with different origins and hosts in China. Four species of Porpidia are newly reported from China, including one species new to science (Porpidia crystallina) and three records (Porpidia umbonifera , P. seakensis and P. cf. contraponenda) new to China. Porpidia crystallina is characterized by a macrocarpa -type exciple containing crystals, a Cinereorufa-green epihymenium, large ascospores and a lack of secondary metabolites. Morpho-anatomical, chemical and phylogenetic analyses were carried out to elucidate the placement of the species and to support the delimitation of the new taxon. Detailed taxonomic descriptions, ecological and chemical characters, and illustrations are provided for each species. A key to all known Chinese Porpidia species is also provided. Soil erosion is a major issue in Loess Plateau, China, and quantitative analyses of sediment sources are crucial for soil erosion control. In this study, a combination of flood couplet analysis and composite fingerprint identification was used for historical reconstructions of soil erosion in sediment source areas in Loess Plateau. Each flood couplet was constructed based on sediment 137Cs activity, and past soil erosion was calculated using soil bulk density and storage capacity curves. The contribution rates of the sediment sources were calculated using the fingerprinting method, and the amount of erosion in the sediment source areas was estimated. The best fingerprint combination (Cr, Ni, V, and TOC) enabled a 97.2% recognition of sediment sources from 29 flood events (1956–1990) in the Loess Plateau. The contribution rates of gullies, farmland, grassland, and shrubland were 44.89%, 26.38%, 10.49%, and 18.24%, respectively. These four land use types contributed 1,227, 751, 512, and 279 tons of sediments, respectively. Re-vegetation decreased soil erosion (1966–1983), whereas deforestation increased soil erosion (1956–1965 and 1984–1990). Rational soil and water conservation measures on slopes and check dam construction in gullies are therefore suggested to mitigate erosion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gaultheria leucocarpa and its varieties form a clade of aromatic shrubs that is widely distributed in subtropical and East Asian tropical regions. The group is taxonomically difficult and in need of thorough taxonomic investigation. This study focused on taxonomic delimitation within the G. leucocarpa group from mainland China. Field surveys covering the distributional range of G. leucocarpa in mainland China were conducted, wherein four populations from Yunnan and one from Hunan were found bearing morphological and habitat differences. A 63‐species phylogenetic tree of Gaultheria based on one nuclear and three chloroplast markers that included samples from the G. leucocarpa group was reconstructed with maximum likelihood to clarify the monophyly of the G. leucocarpa group. Taxonomic relationships among populations were investigated with morphology and population genetics, the latter by using two chloroplast genes and two low‐copy nuclear genes. Based on the sum of morphological and genetic analyses, we described three species of Gaultheria as new to science, clarified the taxonomic status of G. leucocarpa var. pingbienensis, elevating it to the species level, and resurrected G. crenulata and treated the varieties G. leucocarpa var. crenulata, and G. leucocarpa var. yunnanensis as synonyms of this species. Gypsophila huashanensis Y. W. Tsui & D. Q. Lu (Caryophyllaceae) is an endemic herb species to the Qinling Mountains in China. In this study, we characterized its whole plastid genome using the Illumina sequencing platform. The complete plastid genome of G. huashanensis is 152,457 bp in length, including a large single-copy DNA region of 83,476 bp, a small single-copy DNA region of 17,345 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat DNA sequences of 25,818 bp. The genome contains 130 genes comprising 85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Evolutionary analysis showed that the non-coding regions of Caryophyllaceae exhibit a higher level of divergence than the exon regions. Gene site selection analysis suggested that 11 coding protein genes (accD, atpF, ndhA, ndhB, petB, petD, rpoCl, rpoC2, rps16, ycfl, and ycf2) have some sites under protein sequence evolution. Phylogenetic analysis showed that G. huashanensis is most closely related to the congeneric species G. oldhamiana. Fencing enclosures play an important role in improving ecological quality. There is a direct impact of implementing fencing enclosures on the change in soil quality. The soil quality index was used to examine the effects of fencing enclosures for different years (7 and 11 years) on soil quality in Biru County of Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, China. The fencing enclosure significantly increased soil water content, non-capillary porosity, soil organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, and significantly decreased the soil bulk density. The soil quality gradually improved as the fencing enclosure time length increased, probably due to the increase of vegetation coverage and biomass under the fencing enclosure. The minimum data set was composed of soil organic matter, capillary porosity, total potassium, and non-capillary porosity. The minimum data set was significantly correlated with the total data set and could replace the total data set for soil quality evaluation in the fencing enclosure project area. In summary, our study reflects that fencing enclosures significantly improve soil quality, and the implementation of the fencing enclosure project will effectively curb land degradation in Biru County of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, China. Background: Carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli (CR-GNB) have been increasingly reported in China. However, dynamic monitoring data on molecular epidemiology of CR-GNB are limited in pediatric patients. Results: 300 CR-GNB isolates (200 Carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP), 50 carbapenem-resistant A.baumannii (CRAB) and 50 carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa (CRPA)) were investigated. The predominant carbapenemase gene was blaNDM−1 (73%) and blaKPC−2 (65%) in neonates and non-neonates. Meanwhile, the predominant STs were ST11 (54%) in neonates and ST17 (27.0%) and ST278 (20.0%) in non-neonates. Notably, a shift in the dominant sequence type of CRKP infections from ST17 /ST278-NDM-1 to ST11-KPC-2 was observed during the years 2017–2021 and KPC-KP showed relatively higher resistance to aminoglycosides and quinolones than NDM-KP.BlaOXA−23 was isolated from all the CRAB isolates while only one isolate expressing blaBIC and 2 isolates expressing blaVIM−2 were found in CRPA isolates. ST195 (22.0%) and ST244 (24.0%) were the most common in CRAB and CRPA isolates and all the STs of CRAB belonged to CC92 while CRPA presents ST types with diversity distribution. Conclusion: CRKP showed different molecular phenotypes in neonates and non-neonates and was changing dynamically and high-risk clone of ST11 KPC-KP should be paid more attention. Most CRKP and CRAB strains shared the same CCs, suggesting that intrahospital transmission may occur, and large-scale screening and more effective measures are urgently needed. Severe air pollution and urban heat islands (UHI) intensity (UHII) are two challenging problems that have attracted wide attention in populated cities. However, previous studies mostly focused on the relationship between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and UHII, but how UHII responds to the interactions between radiative effects (direct effect (DE), indirect effect (IDE) with slope and shading effects (SSE)) and PM2.5 during heavy pollution is still unclear, especially in the cold region. Therefore, this study explores the synergistic interactions between PM2.5 and radiative effects in influencing UHII during a heavy pollution event in the cold-megacity of Harbin-China. Hence, we designed four scenarios: non-aerosol radiative feedback (NARF), DE, IDE, and combined effects (DE + IDE + SSE) in December 2018 (clear-episode) and December 2019 (heavy-haze-episode) using numerical modeling. The results showed that the radiative effects influenced the spatial distribution of PM2.5 concentration leading to a mean drop in 2-m air-temperature by approximately 0.67 °C (downtown) and 1.48 °C (satellite-town) between the episodes. The diurnal-temporal variations revealed that the daytime and nighttime UHIIs were strengthened in the downtown during the heavy-haze-episode, while a reverse effect was observed in the satellite-town. Interestingly, during the heavy-haze-episode, the considerable difference between excellent and heavily polluted PM2.5 levels showed a decrease in UHIIs (1.32 °C, 1.32 °C, 1.27 °C, and 1.20 °C) due to the radiative effects (NARF, DE, IDE, and (DE + IDE + SSE)), respectively. In assessing other pollutants' interactions with the radiative effects, PM10 and NOx had a considerable impact on the UHII during the heavy-haze episode while O3 and SO2 were discovered to be very low in both episodes. Moreover, the SSE has uniquely influenced UHII, especially during the heavy-haze-episode. Therefore, insight from this study provides an understanding of how UHII responds uniquely in the cold region, which in turn could help to formulate effective policies and co-mitigation strategies for air pollution and UHI problems. Material exchange frequently occurs in gullies, and thus the relationship between a gully-network structure and sediment transport potential has attracted considerable interest. However, previous researches ignored the difficulty of material transport from sources to sinks, and did not quantify the connectivity of a network structure. In this study, we used a graph model structure to model gully networks of six typical sample areas in the Loess Plateau of China and quantified gully network connectivity using four indexes: average node strength, accessibility from sources to sinks, potential flow, and network structural connectivity index. Results show that: (1) Reflected by different quantitative indexes, the trends of gully network connectivity in different regions are similar. From north to south, the connectivity of a sample area first increases and then decreases. (2) The more mature gullies have stronger network connectivity. Small resistance is conducive to material transport in the gullies. (3) The node connectivity index of the gully network shows a significant aggregation distribution in space, and node connectivity on the main channel is often stronger than that on the branch trench. These results not only deepen the understanding of the process and mechanism of loess gully geomorphic development and evolution but also provide a reference for geomorphic studies. AT-hook motif nuclear localized (AHL) is a transcription factor that can directly induce plant somatic embryogenesis without adding exogenous hormones. One of its functional domains, the AT-hook motif, has a chromatin-modifying function and participates in various cellular processes, including DNA replication and repair and gene transcription leading to cell growth. Liriodendron chinense (Hemsl.) Sargent is an important ornamental and timber tree in China. However, its low drought-resistant ability further leads to a low natural growth rate of its population. Based on bioinformatics analysis, this study identified a total of 21 LcAHLs in L. chinense. To explore the expression pattern of the AHL gene family under drought and somatic embryogenesis, we performed a systematic analysis including basic characteristics, gene structure, chromosome localization, replication event, cis-acting elements and phylogenetic analyses. According to the phylogenetic tree, the 21 LcAHL genes are divided into three separate clades (Clade I, II, and III). Cis-acting element analysis indicated the involvement of the LcAHL genes in drought, cold, light, and auxin regulation. In the generated drought stress transcriptome, a total of eight LcAHL genes showed increased expression levels, with their expression peaking at 3 h and leveling off after 1 d. Nearly all LcAHL genes were highly expressed in the process of somatic embryogenesis. In this study, we performed a genome-wide analysis of the LcAHL gene family and found that LcAHLs take part in resistance to drought stress and the development of somatic embryos. Background: The two most prevalent mental health conditions are anxiety and depression and they often coexist (comorbidity) in an individual aggravating the person's psychological or medical conditions. College students suffered from anxiety and depressive symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to numerous studies. The lack of information on the comorbidity of anxiety and depression (CAD) among international medical students, however, makes it difficult to develop effective policies or strategies to support these students. Objective: The present research seeks to investigate the incidence of CAD among international medical students in China and to identify the variables that may be useful in predicting CAD. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted at China Medical University in Shenyang, China, for international medical students during November 2020. A total of 519 international students provided information on their demographics, stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic, generalized anxiety disorder assessment (GAD-7), patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), simplified coping style questionnaire (SCSQ), perceived stress scale (PSS-10), the multidimensional scale of perceived social support (MSPSS), revised life orientation test (LOT-R), and resilience scale-14 (RS-14). To investigate the potential predictors of CAD, a chi-square test, a nonparametric test, and multinomial logistic regression analyses were carried out as appropriate. Results: The incidence of anxiety, depression, and CAD in the current study was 5.8%, 8.9%, and 22.7%, respectively. The predictors for students having symptoms of anxiety were observed to be the negative coping style (β = 0.662, OR = 1.938, CI:1.07–3.694) and perceived stress (β = 0.167, OR = 1.181, CI:1.076–1.297); the predictors for students having symptoms of depression were observed to be the COVID-19 pandemic-related stress (β = 0.323,OR = 1.382,CI:1.211–1.577), negative coping style (β = 0.693,OR = 2.000, CI:1.21–3.568), and perceived stress (β = 0.135,OR = 1.145,CI:1.050–1.248); whereas the predictors for students with CAD were observed to be staying up late (Yes VS No) (β = 1.028,OR = 2.794,CI:1.227–6.364), current place of residence (Other continents VS China) (β = -1.413, OR = 0.243,CI:0.065–0.910), COVID-19 pandemic-related stress (β = 0.371,OR = 1.450,CI:1.284–1.636), negative coping style (β = 1.092,OR = 2.979,CI:1.706–5.203), and perceived stress (β = 0.339,OR = 1.403,CI:1.289–1.527). Conclusion: Single anxiety and depressive symptoms were moderately prevalent among international medical students in China. However, CAD turned out to be the most prevalent mental health issue due to its relatively higher incidence. Negative coping style and perceived stress were the communal predictors of the three categories, whereas stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic was linked to both depression and CAD, and staying up late and in residential places were specific predictors for CAD. Study results suggest that COVID-19 pandemic-related stress was related to students' CAD and depressive symptoms, and specific intervention measures with stress reduction, proper coping strategy, and a good lifestyle might be useful in improving the international students' mental health status. Introduction: Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) is a nosocomial bacterial pathogen that causes antibiotic-associated diarrhea mediated by cellular exotoxins secreted into the intestine during bacterial growth. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and PCR ribotyping are the main molecular typing for C. difficile. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) core genome multilocus sequence typing (cgMLST) was developed for genetic evolution and outbreak investigation of C. difficile with higher precision and accuracy. Methods: A total of 699 whole (complete and draft) genome sequences of distinct C. difficile strains were used in this study to identify core gene set (2469 core genes) and the cgMLST scheme for the phylogeny analysis of C. difficile. This cgMLST pipeline was then carried the Chinese Pathogen Identification Net (China PIN) for surveillance of C. difficile in China. Within the China PIN, 195 WGS of C. difficile and an outbreak of CDI with 12 WGS of C. difficile were used to evaluate the cgMLST pipeline. Results: The result displayed that mostly tested C. difficile isolates could be successfully divided into 5 classic clades and the outbreak event was also successfully identified. Student populations are susceptible to the COVID-19 pandemic and may easy develop mental health problems related to their immaturity of psychological development and fluctuation of mood. However, little has been known about the effects of the pandemic on college students and the associated influencing factors. This study aimed to explore the role of psychological resilience as a mediator between general self-efficacy and mental health. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 480 Chinese college students from 12 universities in Hunan province of China. The participants responded anonymously to the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), the Chinese version of the Resilience Scale for College Students (RSCS), and the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12). Hierarchical linear regression and structural equation modeling were used in this study. The average of GSES and RSCS scores of college students were 25.00 ± 4.68 and 137.97 ± 15.50, which were at a medium level. The average score for the GHQ-12 was 1.59 ± 1.59, and 22.03% of the college students scored ≥ 3 on the GHQ-12, indicating that they were at risk of developing mental disorders. According to the analyses of mediation effect, psychological resilience played a fully mediating role in the relationship between general self-efficacy and mental health. In conclusion, Chinese college students were at high risk of developing mental disorders during the COVID-19 period. General self-efficacy was positively associated with psychological resilience, and psychological resilience played a fully mediating role in the relationship between general self-efficacy and mental health. Purpose: Extant research has paid considerable attention to the effects of enterprise social media (ESM) on employees' work attitudes and outcomes, yet the authors know little about the influence of job demands arising from the implementation of ESM. Drawing on resource allocation theory, the purpose of this study is to unravel how ESM-related job demands influence employee outcomes. Design/methodology/approach: This study conducts a two-wave time-lagged survey of 223 employees from 53 teams in 14 financial service firms in China to test the conceptual model. Findings: The findings of this paper indicate that ESM-related job demands have indirect effects on employee outcomes (i.e. job satisfaction and work–family conflict), and emotional exhaustion plays an intermediary role in these relationships. Specifically, ESM-related job demands have a U-shaped effect on emotional exhaustion. Originality/value: This study combines job demands with ESM research and clarifies the mechanism behind how ESM-related job demands at different intensity affect employee outcomes from a new perspective. This study developed a new single-tube multiplex real-time PCR method for detecting toxigenic C. difficile directly from fecal samples using tcdA, tcdB, cdtB, and internal gene tpi as targets, which could be performed on kinds of polymerase chain reaction device including point-of-care testing (POCT), with improved detection efficiency. The specificity, sensitivity, and repeatability of each gene was evaluated using 69 C. difficile isolates and 74 fecal samples. Results were compared with established PCR, qPCR, and ELISA methods. Interspecies specificity was 100% based on six common intestinal pathogens (Escherichia coli, Enterococcus Faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, Clostridium perfringens, Bacteroides fragilis, Clostridium botulinum). The lower detection limit (LDL) for tcdA, tcdB, and cdtB with pure C. difficile DNA was 101,100, and 100 copies/μL, respectively, the coefficients of variation among different experimental batches and within each experimental batch were both less than 3%, which shows that this method has strong repeatability. And the LDL of fecal DNA was 5 × 100, 5 × 103, and 5 × 102 colony-forming units (CFU)/g, respectively. In addition, the efficiency for detection of tcdA was compared with established PCR and real-time PCR methods, demonstrating high consistency (98.4%) and similar sensitivity. ELISA was used to confirm inconsistent results, which were identical with our method. The sensitivity and specificity for detecting toxigenic C. difficile in fecal samples were 96.49% and 94.12% compared with the toxigenic culture (TC). This method effectively identified the toxigenic and non-toxigenic strains with high specificity, sensitivity, and repeatability, and could reduce the false positive rate of tcdA, and accurately identify the typical Asian strain RT017, making it potentially contribute to the surveillance of CDI in China. There are about 10 million people with epilepsy (PWE) in China. In addition to therapies approved by the National Medical Products Administration, the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is prevalent in Chines PWE. These CAM therapies mainly comprise traditional Chinese medicine herbs (TCMHs), acupuncture, and music. A retrospective literature search was performed to summarize the updates of CAM in China in the past ten years, and sixty‐two papers were finally included. In this following review, we listed the animal and clinical studies to summarize the antiepileptic mechanisms and clinical efficacy of CAM in Chines PWE. The main mechanisms of TCMHs and acupuncture included regulation of neurotransmitters and receptors, voltage‐gated ion channels modulation, expression of apoptosis‐related genes, antioxidant response, and anti‐inflammation. Although there were enormous clinical studies on them, the current available clinical trials were small, short‐term, heterogeneous, and had a high risk of bias. With regard to music, a few studies conducted by Chinese scholars suggested that it was beneficial for PWE as an add‐on therapy, which was consistent with the results of foreign studies. Background: Considering the high incidence of medical privacy disclosure, it is of vital importance to study doctors’ privacy protection behavior and its influencing factors. Objective: We aim to develop a scale for doctors’protection of patients’privacy in Chinese public medical institutions, following construction of a theoretical model framework through grounded theory, and subsequently to validate the scale to measure this protection behavior. Methods: Combined with the theoretical paradigm of protection motivation theory (PMT) and semistructured interview data, the grounded theory research method, followed by the Delphi expert and group discussion methods, a theoretical framework and initial scale for doctors in Chinese public medical institutions to protect patients' privacy was formed. The adjusted scale was collected online using a WeChat electronic survey measured using a 5-point Likert scale. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (EFA and CFA) and tests to analyze reliability and validity were performed on the sample data. SPSS 19.0 and Amos 26.0 statistical analysis software were used for EFA and CFA of the sample data, respectively. Results: According to the internal logic of PMT, we developed a novel theoretical framework of a “storyline,” which was a process from being unaware of patients' privacy to having privacy protection behavior, that affected doctors' cognitive intermediary and changed the development of doctors' awareness, finally affecting actual privacy protection behavior in Chinese public medical institutions. Ultimately, we created a scale to measure 18 variables in the theoretical model, comprising 63 measurement items, with a total of 208 doctors participating in the scaling survey, who were predominantly educated to the master’s degree level (n=151, 72.6%). The department distribution was relatively balanced. Prior to EFA, the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was 0.702, indicating that the study was suitable for factor analysis. The minimum value of Cronbach α for each study variable was .754, which met the internal consistency requirements of the scale. The standard factor loading value of each potential measurement item in CFA had scores greater than 0.5, which signified that all the items in the scale could effectively converge to the corresponding potential variables. Conclusions: The theoretical framework and scale to assess doctors' patient protection behavior in public medical institutions in China fills a significant gap in the literature and can be used to further the current knowledge of physicians’thought processes and adoption decisions. Background: Depression is a serious risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Improving depression can alleviate cardiac symptoms and improve quality of life. Studies have shown that acupuncture has a positive effect on depression and CVD. This systematic review and meta-analysis will evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in the treatment of depression complicated with CVD. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and China Biomedical Literature databases. Randomized controlled trials of acupuncture vs. standard care or sham acupuncture or antidepressants were included. The retrieval time is from database construction to 07 April 2022. We used the "risk of bias" tool of Cochrane Collaboration, and the Review Manager (RevMan.) Version 5.4.1 for statistics analysis. Primary outcomes included Hamilton scale for depression (HAMD), self-rating depression scale (SDS), and the effective rate of depression. Secondary outcomes included frequency of angina pectoris and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores for angina pain. Results: A total of 2,366 studies were screened based on the search strategy. Twelve eligible studies with a total of 1,203 participants have been identified. The result showed that acupuncture reduced the HAMD score [weighted mean difference (WMD): ff3.23; 95% confidence interval (CI): 5.38 to ff1.09; P = 0.003] and the SDS score (WMD: ff1.85; 95% CI: ff2.14 to ff1.56; P < 0.00001) in patients with depression complicated with CVD. Acupuncture also improved the effective rate of depression (risk ratio: 1.15; 95% CI: 1.03 to 1.29; P = 0.01). The result also showed that acupuncture reduced the attack frequency of angina pectoris (WMD: ff4.54; 95% CI: ff5.96 to ff3.11; P < 0.00001) and the VAS score for angina pain (WMD: ff0.72; 95% CI: ff1.06 to ff0.38; P < 0.0001). This article reviewed the significant advantages of acupuncture for depression and the superiority of acupuncture over no-intervention therapy, antidepressant therapy, and psychotherapy in reducing angina frequency and pain intensity in patients with CVD Conclusion: This systematic review suggested that acupuncture was a good complementary and alternative therapy for CVD complicated with depression. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of depression or anxiety in patient with multiple myeloma (MM) in China during maintenance treatment and its associated influencing factors. Methods: Patients with MM (n = 160) received maintenance therapy, and control subjects (without MM, n = 160) matched on age, sex, and BMI were recruited. Patients completed questionnaires, including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale (GAD-7), and the Verbal Pain Rating Scale (VPRS). Data on the Clinical characteristics, biochemical indicators of de novo MM were from the database of the Hematology Department of Beijing Chao-yang Hospital. Multiple linear regression model analysis was used to compare the differences in PHQ9 and GAD-7 scale scores between the control group and the case group after correction for relevant variables. Multiple logistic regression models were subsequently used to analyze the correlation between the presence or absence of anxiety and depression and clinical indicators in the MM groups. Results: Depression symptoms was present in 33.33% and anxiety symptoms in 24.68% of first-episode MM in the maintenance phase of treatment, and depression symptoms in the index-corrected MM group was significantly different from that in the control group (t = 2.54, P < 0.05). Analyses of multiple logistic regressions: biochemical indicators and clinical typing were not significantly associated with anxiety and depression. Compared to the pain rating 1, the risk of depressive mood was greater in the case group with the pain rating 2 (OR = 2.38) and the pain rating ≥ 3 (OR = 4.32). The risk of anxiety was greater in the case group with the pain rating ≥ 3 than the pain rating 1 (OR = 2.89). Conclusion: Despite being in clinical remission, depressive mood problems in patients with MM remain prominent. Background: Severe complications may cause a fatal or disabling outcome in patients with Rickettsia japonica infection but are poorly understood. Methods: We identified 11 patients with only Rickettsia japonica infection with metagenomics next generation sequencing (mNGS) during April to November 2021 at Yichang Central People's Hospital, China. Clinical data were obtained through review of medical records. Results: Most patients realized that they had symptoms about one or two days after being bitten. Fever (91%), pulmonary effusion (91%), rash or erythema (100%), abnormal urine (100%), neutropenia (100%), lymphopenia (100%), and thrombocytopenia (100%) were the most common clinical signs. Six severely ill patients were admitted to the intensive care unit and five had mild symptoms. Systemic manifestations such as vomiting (83%), neurological manifestations (100%), and disseminated intravascular coagulation (100%) were more frequently observed in the severe cases, 33.3% of whom developed purpura fulminans requiring amputation or skin graft, and 16.6% died two days after admission. Some patients experienced sequelae. Background: The rapid spread of Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) infection has been the most important public health crisis across the globe since the end of 2019. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems among people during the pandemic, and many studies have reported anxiety and depressive symptoms in college students. However, information on the mental health status of international medical students during this critical period of time has been scarce, which hinders the efforts in making proper policy or strategies to help these students. The present study aims to explore the prevalence of anxiety and depressive symptoms in international medical students in China and to find out the factors that have potential predictive value for anxiety and depressive symptoms. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out for international medical students during November 2020 at China Medical University in Shenyang, China. Five hundred and nineteen international students were interviewed with questionnaires containing demographic variables, Stressors in school, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) and Resilience Scale-14 (RS-14). Univariate logistic regression and stepwise multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted where appropriate to explore the predictive factors of anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms. Results: The prevalence of anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms in the sample population was 28.5% (148/519) and 31.6% (164/519), respectively. Stressors in school (β = 0.176, OR = 1.192, CI: 1.102–1.289), negative coping style (β = 0.639, OR = 1.894, CI: 1.287–2.788) and perceived stress (β = 0.230, OR = 1.258, CI: 1.184–1.337) were found to be the predictors of anxiety symptoms among the international medical students; while gender (β = −0.594, OR = 0.552, CI: 0.315–0.968), stay up late (β = 0.828, OR = 2.288, CI: 1.182–4.431), current place of residence (β = 1.082, OR = 2.951, CI: 1.256–6.931), stressors in the school (β = 0.303, OR = 1.354, CI: 1.266–1.496), negative coping style (β = 0.866, OR = 2.377, CI: 1.516–3.725), perceived stress (β = 0.233, OR = 1.262, CI: 1.180–1.351) were found to be predictors of depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The prevalence of anxiety symptoms and depressive symptoms was moderate among international medical students in China. The communal predictors of anxiety and depressive symptoms were stressors in school, negative coping style and perceived stress; while demographic factors such as gender (male), stay up late at night and current place of residence were found associated with depressive symptoms. Using data from 31 provinces/municipalities in China from 2003 to 2018, this article examines the impact of international tourism on hotel sales revenue (HSR). Specifically, this study lays a theoretical foundation for investigations of the nonlinear and state-dependent effects of international tourist arrivals (ITAs) on HSR. Results of both traditional and dynamic panel regression test models reveal the following interesting results. First, the positive relationship between ITA and hotel performance is not unique to Taiwan but is also found in Mainland China. Second, based on the theory of economies of agglomeration, the impact of ITA on HSR is found to be inverse U-shaped. Third, the effects of ITA on HSR are economic state-dependent, relying to a great extent on economic conditions. Furthermore, ITA has a stronger impact on HSR during periods of economic expansion. Goose astrovirus (GAstV), an agent of fatal visceral gout in goslings, has been widely circulating in eastern China since 2017, but little is known about its genetic diversity and systematic evolution. In this study, we isolated and sequenced nine nearly full‐length GAstV genomes and conducted comprehensive genetic diversity and evolutionary analysis and compared them with other reported GAstV sequences. Our results indicated that two genotypic species of GAstV were circulating in China, and GAstV‐2 subgenotype II‐c had arisen as the dominant genotype in Shandong province and across the whole country. Multiple alignments of GAstV amino acid sequences revealed several characteristic mutations in GAstV‐2 II‐c strains, as well as additional residues in the nine new isolates which varied over time. Phylogenetic analysis of three open reading frames demonstrated different evolutionary histories. Evidence of natural recombination was also detected in GAstV, with most of the recombination occurring in the GAstV‐2 II‐c subgenotype. Molecular adaptation analyses revealed that the evolution of GAstV was shaped by strong negative selection, although a number of amino acids, which potentially affect host infection and cell entry, were subjected to positive pressure. Background: 99mTc bone scintigraphy (BS) is the mainstay and most widely used technique in evaluation of bone metastasis (BM) in China. This study aimed to investigate the value of 99mTc BS in preoperative workup for patients with potentially resectable (cT1−4aN0−3) esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: This prospective cross‐section clinical trial (ChiCTR1800020304) enrolled a total of 385 patients with ESCC diagnosed at thoracic surgery clinic from October 2018 to September 2020. All patients were diagnosed with stage cT1−4aN0−3 and were potential candidates for surgical resection. BS was performed preoperatively and the treatment strategy was changed after confirmation of BM. The primary endpoint was the rate of change of the treatment regimen because of BM, while the secondary endpoint was the rate of positive BS findings. Results: Out of the 385 patients, only two (0.5%) changed their treatment regimen because of BM. The rate of positive BS findings was 1%, while two patients (0.5%) had false‐positive or false‐negative results. The BS diagnostic performance for BM was sensitivity 50%, specificity 99.5%, positive predictive value 50%, negative predictive value 99.5%, and accuracy 99.0%. There was no significant difference in BM in relation to age, sex, tumor location or clinical stage. Conclusion: Our data demonstrated that 99mTc bone scintigraphy does not significantly affect the preoperative workup in patients with potentially resectable ESCC, especially in early clinical stage patients. Background: Acute histoplasmosis is a rare fungal disease in China. This study is aimed to summarize the clinical characteristics of the first large-scale outbreak of imported acute histoplasmosis in Chinese, so as to provide suggestions for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods: We collected the symptoms, signs, laboratory examination and imaging data of 10 patients in so far the biggest outbreak of imported acute histoplasmosis in immunocompetent Chinese. Their clinical characteristics and time-varying cytokine/chemokine levels were analyzed, and rank correlation analysis between these markers was utilized to show their condition. Results: The 10 patients of imported acute histoplasmosis were working without any respiratory protection in an abandoned mine tunnel in Guyana. The most common symptoms were fever and cough. Their chest CT imaging showed multiple nodular shadows in lungs. Laboratory examination showed that at admission the CRP, PCT, LDH, CysC, G-test, β2-MG were all increased in at least 9 patients, and the CD4/CD8 was decreased to < 1 in all patients. Most cytokines/chemokines (other than IL-4, IL-12, INF-α, TNF-α) varied widely with patients and time, but their overall trend is higher at admission and decreasing gradually during hospitalization, especially for the IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and IFN-γ. The LDH, CysC, G-test, β2-MG, N/L, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-γ, IL-27 are in positive associations to both CRP and PCT. Conclusions: The diagnosis of acute histoplasmosis needs a comprehensive analysis of epidemiological history, clinical symptoms and signs, and results of imaging, laboratory, microbiological and pathological examinations. Although none of the CRP, PCT, G-test, N/L, LDH, CysC, β2-MG, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IFN-γ shows specificity in the diagnosis of acute histoplasmosis, there is possibility that the above factors might help in the inflammation and prognosis estimation. This article makes an original contribution to the hospitality research literature. It proposes a curvilinear impact of air quality (AQ) on hotel sales (HS) and then empirically tests this nonlinear effect using data from 26 major tourist cities in China from 2002 to 2016. The results of dynamic panel regression test based on estimations of the system generalized method of moments reveal an inverse U-shaped impact of AQ (measured by concentrations of the fine particulate matter, i.e. PM2.5) on HS and thus validate the proposal. Humans influence desert ecosystem structure and function by transforming native vegetation into agricultural and non‐agricultural land. However, how different land uses in desert grasslands affect soil phosphorus (P) fractions with varying lability by creating distinct soil physicochemical and microbial properties remains poorly understood. To address this question, a field study was conducted in the arid region of northwestern China, where sites were selected for having an area containing natural desert grassland and three adjacent differently managed land uses converted from desert grassland: 28‐year‐old rainfed shrub (Haloxylon ammodendron) plantation, 35‐year‐old irrigated tree (Populus gansuensis) plantation, and 33‐ to 40‐year‐old irrigated and fertilized croplands. We collected data from four land‐use types for concentrations of soil inorganic and organic P (Pi and Po) fractions of decreasing lability (labile P: resin‐ and NaHCO3‐extractable P; moderately labile P: NaOH‐extractable P; recalcitrant P: HCl‐extractable P and residual P) and edaphic variables as predictors. The relative contributions of individual predictors to variation in P fractions were evaluated using a boosted regression tree analysis. We found significant increases in (1) all P fractions in croplands (77%–418%), with the largest increase in resin‐P; (2) all P fractions except resin‐P in tree plantations (52%–367%), with the largest increase in labile Po; and (3) NaHCO3‐P and HCl‐Pi in shrub plantations (14%–134%), with the largest increase in labile Pi, compared with natural desert grasslands. Edaphic properties dominantly controlled the changes of different P fractions, explaining 51%–93% of the variation in P fractions, but the dominant influential factors differed across P fractions. We conclude that different land uses in desert grassland soil resulted in significant differences in the fractional composition and availability of soil P by affecting edaphic properties differently, informing that soil P cycling can be regulated by altering land‐use types and management levels. This paper examines the impact of shadow economy and environmental policy stringency on energy consumption and economic growth in the case of China for the period 1993 to 2019. Asymmetric ARDL empirical findings show that positive shocks in shadow economy and environmental policy stringency have a significant and positive impact on energy consumption and economic growth in the long run. However, the negative shocks in shadow economy exert positive and significant impacts on energy consumption and economic growth in the long run, but magnitudes are small compared to positive shocks. The long-run findings report no significant effect of negative shock in environmental policy stringency on energy consumption and economic growth. China should use environmental policy stringency as economic tools to maintain green economic growth and clean energy demand for sustained economic expansion. Introduction. Acute pain is a prevalent problem for dementia residents in nursing homes. A variety of intervention strategies have been applied to address this problem. However, there remains an issue of inadequate pain control. This study aims to explore the analgesic efficacy of auricular acupressure (AA) for dementia residents with acute pain in nursing homes. Methods. A multicenter, single-blind, randomized, and sham-controlled clinical trial was performed in three nursing homes in Yinchuan, China. All of the 206 eligible patients with acute pain were randomly divided into two groups for real AA therapy or sham AA (at sham point stimulation) therapy. The primary outcome was measured with a face pain scale revised (FPS-R) score before the procedure, 5 min after the start of the intervention, and 5 min after finishing the procedure. Secondary outcomes covered three physiological parameters, adverse reactions observed, satisfaction level of caregivers, acceptance of patients, and additional use of analgesics. Results. There was a significant difference in pain scores based on FPS-R between the two groups (p < 0.01). Pain score in the true AA group was 1.84 ± 0.23, compared with 2.22 ± 0.81 in the sham AA group. No adverse events were found during the whole procedure for all patients. The satisfaction level of caregivers and acceptance of patients in the real AA group were significantly higher than those in the sham AA group. Conclusion. This study shows that real AA was an alternative analgesic modality in reducing acute pain in patients with mild dementia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In our study, patients who had a second delivery were categorised into the following 4 groups. Pelvic floor ultrasound data were compared during the 6th week after the second delivery. The incidence of cystoceles was highest in group A and lowest in group D. In addition, groups A and B had a higher rate of rectoceles or perineum descent. Similarly, the areas of the levator hiatus were higher in Groups A and B during Valsalva manoeuvres. The area of the levator hiatus from the resting state to the Valsalva manoeuvre effect had the greatest change in Group A. A comparison of the PR thickening rates among the four groups did not reveal significant differences. All second delivery methods can cause varying degrees of pelvic organ prolapse and decreased pelvic floor function; however, vaginal delivery as the second delivery mode may have a more significant effect in Chinese women. What is already known on this subject? Different modes of delivery have significantly different effects on female pelvic floor function. Pregnancy beyond 35 weeks of gestation has an effect on female pelvic floor function, irrespective of the mode of delivery. What do the results of this study add? This study analysed the impact of different delivery modes on Chinese female pelvic floor function. Parous women who underwent different modes of second delivery all demonstrated different degrees of pelvic organ prolapse, as well as pelvic floor function decline. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Our study will provide basic research of Chinese female pelvic floor function after a second delivery, which will be of clinical significance around the world, as well as in China. China will keep promoting further delivery as the aging population is increasing. The species Immersaria cupreoatra has been included in Bellemerea. This caused us to reconsider the relationships between Bellemerea and the lecanorine species of Immersaria and to question the monophyly of Immersaria. Amongst 25 genera of the family Lecideaceae, most have lecideine apothecia, the exceptions being Bellemerea and Koerberiella, which have lecanorine apothecia. According to previous classifications, Immersaria included species with both lecanorine and lecideine apothecia. A five-loci phylogenetic tree (nrITS, nrLSU, RPB1, RPB2, and mtSSU) for Lecideaceae showed that Immersaria was split into two clades: firstly, all the lecideine apotheciate species and secondly, all the lecanorine apotheciate species. The latter clade was closely related to the remaining lecanorine apotheciate genera: Bellemerea and Koerberiella. Therefore, the genus concept of Immersaria is revised accordingly and a new lecanorine genus Lecaimmeria is proposed. Furthermore, four new species for Immersaria and seven new species and three new combinations for the new genus Lecaimmeria are proposed. Summary: Objective: This study was undertaken to investigate the COVID‐19 vaccine uptake rate and possible postvaccination effects in adults with epilepsy. Methods: We invited adults with epilepsy attending three centers in China from July 24 to August 31, 2021 to participate in this study. We also asked age‐ and sex‐matched controls among people attending for other chronic neuropsychiatric conditions and healthy controls accompanying people with illness attending the hospitals to participate. We excluded people who, under the national guidelines, had evident contradictions to vaccination. Participants were interviewed face‐to‐face using questionnaires. Vaccine uptake and postvaccine adverse events among the people with epilepsy were compared with those with neuropsychiatric conditions and controls. We also compared the willingness and reasons for hesitancy among unvaccinated participants. Results: We enrolled 981 people, of whom 491 had epilepsy, 217 had other neuropsychiatric conditions, and 273 were controls. Forty‐two percent of those with epilepsy had had the first dose of a vaccine, compared with 93% of controls and 84% of the people with neuropsychiatric conditions (p <.0001). The majority (93.8%) of those immunized had inactivated vaccines. Among the unvaccinated people with epilepsy, 59.6% were willing to have the vaccine. Their main reasons for hesitation were potential adverse effects (53.3%) and concerns about losing seizure control (47.0%). The incidence of adverse events in the epilepsy group was similar to controls. Nineteen people with epilepsy reported an increase in seizure frequency. No episode of status epilepticus or prolonged seizures was reported. Two controls had their first‐ever seizure, which was unlikely related to the vaccine. Significance: The vaccine uptake rate in people with epilepsy was lower than in their same‐age controls. The postvaccination effect was no higher than in controls. We found no evidence suggesting worsening seizures after vaccination. Measurement and education focused on increasing the vaccination rate in epilepsy are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Study Question: Is CDC26 a key factor in human oocyte aging?Summary Answer: The lack of CDC26 disrupts the oocytes maturation process, leading to oocyte aging, but these defects could be partially rescued by overexpression of the CDC26 protein.What Is Known Already: Age-related oocyte aging is the main cause of female fertility decline. In mammalian oocytes, aberrant meiosis can cause chromosomal abnormalities that might lead to infertility and developmental disorders. CDC26 participates in the meiosis process.Study Design, Size, Duration: Differential gene expression in young and old women oocytes were screened by single-cell RNA-seq technology, and the functions of differentially genes were verified on mouse oocytes. Finally, transfection technology was used to evaluate the effect of a differentially expressed gene in rescuing human oocyte from aging.Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: Discarded human oocytes were collected for single-cell RNA-seq, q-PCR and immunocytochemical analyses to screen for and identify differential gene expression. Female KM mice oocytes were collected for IVM of oocytes, q-PCR and immunocytochemical analyses to delineate the relationships between oocyte aging and differential gene expression. Additionally, recombinant lentiviral vectors encoding CDC26 were transfected into the germinal vesicle oocytes of older women, to investigate the effects of the CDC26 gene expression on oocyte development.Main Results and the Role Of Chance: Many genes were found to be differentially expressed in the oocytes of young versus old patients via RNA-seq technology. CDC26 mRNA and protein levels in aged oocytes were severely decreased, when compared with the levels observed in young oocytes. Moreover, aged oocytes lacking CDC26 were more prone to aneuploidy. The global fever for wine demands concerted endeavors for understanding determinants of wine consumers' purchase decisions. Applying the cognitive appraisal theory, this study aims to identify factors that motivate Chinese consumers to purchase organic wines by incorporating consumers' values (i.e., health consciousness), cognitive evaluations (i.e., social trust), and affective references (i.e., positive emotion) into the conceptual model. Moreover, the moderating effect of product familiarity on the conceptual model is examined. A multistage data collection via multiple sample techniques was employed. A total of 1,745 responses were collected in a 2-year duration from all 33 Provincial Level Administrative Units in China. The findings confirm the significant role of the three antecedents on consumers' purchase intention of organic wines, regardless of their product familiarity level. It is also found that the relative importance of the three antecedents to consumers' purchase intention show different patterns for consumers with varying levels of product familiarity. Rationale: The current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pneumonia caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in Wuhan, China, spreads across national and international borders. The overall death rate of COVID-19 pneumonia in the Chinese population was 4%.Objectives: To describe the process of hospitalization and critical care of patients who died of COVID-19 pneumonia.Methods: This was a multicenter observational study of 109 decedents with COVID-19 pneumonia from three hospitals in Wuhan. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment data were collected and analyzed, and the final date of follow-up was February 24, 2020.Results: The mean age of 109 decedents with COVID-19 pneumonia was 70.7 years, 35 patients (32.1%) were female, and 85 patients (78.0%) suffered from one or more underlying comorbidities. Multiple organ failure, especially respiratory failure and heart failure, appeared in all patients even at the early stage of disease. Overall, the mean time from onset of symptoms to death was 22.3 days. All 109 hospitalized patients needed admission to an intensive care unit (ICU); however, because of limited availability, only 51 (46.8%) could be admitted. The period from hospitalization to death in the ICU group and non-ICU group was 15.9 days (standard deviation = 8.8 d) and 12.5 days (8.6 d, P = 0.044), respectively.Conclusions: Mortality due to COVID-19 pneumonia was concentrated in patients above the age of 65 years, especially those with major comorbidities. Patients who were admitted to the ICU lived longer than those who were not. Our findings should aid in the recognition and clinical management of such infections, especially with regard to ICU resource allocation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The extant literature mainly focuses on the antecedents and outcomes of envy at the individual level. Workgroups have become ideal units for research on envy given the ubiquitous teamwork in organizations. This study aims to examine whether, how and when envy climate can influence group performance. Design/methodology/approach: The authors analyzed data collected in three waves from a sample of 72 groups with 475 team members in full-service hotels in China. Findings: Envy climate was negatively associated with group performance via intragroup relationship conflict. Furthermore, competitive climate moderated the effect of envy climate on intragroup relationship conflict and the indirect effect of envy climate on group performance through intragroup relationship conflict. Practical implications: The present research offers organizations valuable insights into how to minimize the climate of envy and competition within a group and relieve the relationship conflict that may damage group performance. Originality/value: Drawing on a social functional perspective of emotions, this study enriches the envy research by conceptualizing envy climate as a collective perception and clarifying its effect on group performance. The authors extend the understanding of envy climate by showing how a climate of envy embedded in a group influences group performance and also explain when group members may be more likely to act in a destructive way to respond to such a climate.
