Over the last years, significant changes have been noted in the field of instrumental methods of airway management in prehospital care. Many scientific societies have developed structured guidelines in emergency situations and in the difficult airway cases. The industry was not passive at that time, newer devices appeared on the market, aimed at providing an alternative to traditional techniques, with particular emphasis on supraglottic devices (SGD) and video laryngoscopy (VL) with the emerging trend of producing disposable equipment. The necessity of per)forming endotracheal intubation (ID) in Emergency Medical Services (ZRM) by paramedics, remains a constant subject of heated discussions among specialists around the world. After the recent announcement of the draft ordi)nance of the Ministry of Health on the performance of ID with the use of paralysis adjuncts by paramedics, many questions and doubts have arisen regarding the extension of paramedics’ competences and the factors influencing the choice of intubation as the preferred method of airway management. The aim of this article is to present the latest publication reports on the intubation procedure in prehospital care. Additionally we will try to objectively present the determinants of this procedure in relation to the realities of the Emergency Medical Services (PRM) system in Poland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
